Multiple Remedies

- Vitamin E Oil Supplements - the most helpful remedy I've found for anal fissures. You can find these at Whole Foods or other health food stores. I can't name the particular brand, but there is one brand that contains high quality vitamin E oil and coconut oil that can be used for either rectal or vaginal use - let me just say that these have been a miracle to speed the healing, and helped heal my fissure within 2 days!
- Witch Hazel - after every bowel movement, make sure to clean the anal area with witch hazel. You can do it inside too like other readers mentioned, just buy a pair of rubber exam gloves to protect your hands and to keep bacteria out of that area. It's really important to keep the area clean to help decrease inflammation and to speed healing. You can buy (can't mention the brand, but it's a hemmorhoid brand) witch hazel wipes in the store, or you can just make some yourself with some witch hazel (try not to buy witch hazel that contains alcohol, ouch! ) and a cotton pad.
- Coconut Oil - see my method for creating coconut oil supplements on the hemmorhoid remedies page. Helps lubricate the area and speed healing.
- Soften bowel movements - if your anal fissues were due to constipation, it is important that you soften your future bowel movements to prevent any further tearing to the tissue during the healing process. You can use an over-the-counter stool softener (NOT laxative) to do this. Also increase your water intake and increase your vegetable/fruit intake.
- Change your position - like other readers have mentioned, changing your position in the bathroom can help relieve some of the strain on the anus. I prop my feet up on a stool to elevate them to bring my body more into a "squatting" position. You can experiment to see which position works better for you. This helps to strain less in the bathroom which means less pain and less damage to the injured area.
- Sitz baths - I take them every hour or so or after bowel movements to decrease pain. You can find epsom salts pretty cheap at the store. I also go in the ocean for the same reason, maybe it's psychological, but I think the salt water helps.
Hope this helps!

Oils

I have successfully tried this combination for a fissure and hems. In a small jar of about 50 ml mix 2 or 3 of these oils: sesame, olive, avocado, wheat germ oil or almond. Sesame is the best but the others are also great. Then add all or any of these essential oils about 10 drops each: peppermint (or spearmint), cypress and tea tree. Apply 3 to 4 times a day when bad and less later: before and after every BM, after showering and before going to bed. Application is by dipping the middle finger in the jar and sliding about 3 cms (1 inch) up the anus and applying externally around the hole. Do this 2 to 3 times. Never double dip (ie replace your dirty finger into the jar). This is difficult even unpleasant (I do understand), but it does work. It works very, very well. Good for hems and fissures. Basically you are lubricating the area for easier BMs and applying a good dose of vitamins and ant-bacterials where they are needed.
Okra

Soothe your anal fissure or soreness internally by eating okra cooked in a little water. Eat a half cup per meal. In a very short time you have these lubricated pellets inside you which help your movements slip out easily. It seems to heal your system on the inside.
I also put aloe gel (from any drugstore) onto a q-tip and gently apply it on the external area and internally a bit too. In the event of itchiness, dab some dilute vinegar in the area, or apply 'a and d' ointment with a q-tip. Very relieving.
Olive Oil

Hi! May I share with you an alternative to a olive oil dropper method for anal fissures.
I have been making my own olive oil supposutories using a rounded ice cube tray .. the smallest ones in the middle.
- Fill each one with olive oil and freeze for several hours until solidified.
- Removing them is easiest if it's a bendy tray .. push them out onto a plate and keep in a freezer bag.
I pop one in every night and sometimes after a bowel movement. My fissure has healed and I no longer need stool softeners...the oil does it all!
I find this method easiest and the cool feeling when inserted is wonderful.
Obviously be quick to insert before they melt .. but they go up so easily.. bliss!

Hello.. can I put the extra virgin olive oil directly in my anus .in a site I read, its not so advisable to do so ... won't it burn? I will also try to use manuka honey ... I hope it works for me ..Ii have been suffering for 5 years with 3 surgeries done.. but fissure re occured and my life quality has been greatly affected due to pain... now I'm turning to natural meds though I'm so hopeless.
Olive Oil

I had fissure & hemorrhoid for about 4 weeks. As one of the contributor on this site said, it felt like I was pooping blades. Horrible pain. By the end of the 4th week I was at the fag end of my hopes for cure. This could have easily been a emergency or surgery situation by prevailing practices. But I firmly believe in natural cures. So I was surfing the web and bumped into this site.
I first thought it was hemorrhoid only. I tried out quite a few treatments mentioned on this site and some other. Didn't work. But from my symptoms, when my doctor friend told me over the phone that I had fissure as well, I searched for fissure treatment on this site. I came across extra virgin organic Olive oil treatment.
Boy it worked wonders for me. I started with oral intake that didn't do much for me. But as I started generously putting it deep inside the rear end with a dropper 3-4 time a day, it gave me immediate relief. The pain started subsiding rapidly. It took about 3 days to cure 80%. And about 7 days to fully recover. I still kept putting it at least once before the bedtime for a few more days so that it didn't recur. In the mean time I had ordered fully ozonated Olive oil. But by the time it arrived from amazon, I was almost cured.
From other mentions here, my guess is any healing oil like, castor or vitamin E should also work. But make sure you keep the anal passage(from deep inside) oiled all the time until it heals.
I am so grateful to the site owner and everyone contributing on this site. I had to share my experience as well for others to benefit. Please keep it up.

Olive Oil

My girlfriend felt I should throw in my two cents, relating how we treated my elderly mother for what could be called "anal fissures."
She had been in the hospital for two weeks and after eating their food, came back with all sorts of complications. They had given her a salve for treating sores around her rectal area. It simply didn't work!
Our diet, including hers, normally includes organic, extra virgin olive oil, as part of the dressing used on large salads we consume, daily. Her returning to that diet, I'm going to assume addressed the initial cause of the rectal inflamation.
However, the sores were horrendous in their behavior! Fearing infection, by the end of the second day of using their prescribed "ointment, " we fell back on old remedy we've know of, for decades: Fully Ozonated Olive Oil. We keep some in our First Aid Kit and use it quite regularly for conditions ranging from fungal infections, burns, to acne.
Once we applied it, things were calmed in a day. Healing started taking place on the second day of application and the third saw all of the lesions closed. There was no more bleeding by the end of the second day. It was applied every time she took a bowel movement, once in the morning and before sleep.
An older person's immune system is not what it used to be and one must be careful in addressing wounds quickly.
In this case, I assume it was the organic olive oil in her diet and the application of the organic, ozonated extra virgin olive oil that stopped the cause of the wounds and allowed them to heal, by killing off infection.
In talking to the owner of the bodega from where we buy it, he emphasizes the oil from which it is made should be organic, to be free of insecticides, extra virgin, to assure maximum penetration (fine oils) and the ozone used, free of any Nitrogen Oxides, which make Nitric Acid when coming in contact with any water in the oil being treated.
So care should be taken in your choice of ozonated olive oil. What we have been buying is imported. However, my Sister has lately been buying from a little firm advertizing on Craigslist, in Los Angeles and claims it looks and works identically to the imported stuff.
Be sure it's the fully ozonated (fully saturated with ozone). If you like a milder form, then dilute it in olive oil, to your liking. That's the way we do it.
I hope this helps any who can use it. Its effects on my mother impressed my girlfriend to the point, she's asked me to relate this. From where I stand, that's a decent endorsement!

@Gerald from Los Angeles: Where do you buy extra virgin olive oil and Fully Ozonated Olive Oil?
My wife is in deep pain because of the Anal Fissures. We wish to try all sorts of natural remedies before opting for a surgery. We are against surgery but the problem is progressing each day. Can you please help me and tell me what should we do? What to buy and where to buy? Would really appreciate your help. I'm worried for my wife's health, she is just 37 years old and having problem with anal fissures and bleeding each time bowel movement occurs in the morning.
Thank you for any help! Regards.

Sorry to hear about your wives' painful experience.
Use pure sesame oil or pure olive oil, if you can find it and use it liberally. After each bowel movement take a cold sitz bath. There are more cures on hemorrhoids here on EC. External intervention is often not satisfactory. Please research well before making that decision. All the best.

@ Andy, from India:
We buy ours directly from of the company's engineers; I pick it up at his systems engineering lab in L.A.
Because of the ozone on their manufacturing premises, insurance considerations don't allow me go to the plant, in Commerce, despite our having known them for years.
Your best bet is to go to their Craigslist, Los Angeles page and order it there: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/hab/4288829394.htm
That will plug you right into their email.
I wish you the best of luck.
For this application, it certainly worked very well for us!

This advice as well as the changing leg position during BM saved me from a terrible situation. I had tried many things for anal fissure. The olive oil, amazing healing gift from nature.

Olive Oil Worked for Anal Fissure. Really worked for me! Much better than those steroid cream I used before.
I heard some Muslim bloggers recommend extra virgin olive oil for anal fissures because supposedly in the Muslim Holy Koran book (nope I'm not Muslim), the prophet Mohamed recommended something from the "olive tree" to cure anal fissure. (subject to interpretation, but these bloggers say he meant olive oil).
So anyway:
1) I took 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil before bedtime.
2) Made sure that I chewed food well (especially if meat) instead of just "wolfing" down my food as usual; which I read also causes constipation.
Cured BOTH my constipation and anal fissure! Not only am I cured, but I'm now "regular" in the bathroom every morning with ease!
I've since reduced to 1 tablespoon a day (primarily because of the expense of extra virgin olive oil) and still have no problem in the bathroom...
But for immediate effects if you have a problem now, I'd probably start with a lot (3 to 4 tablespoons at bedtime) since olive oil is probably completely safe anyway (since its a common food and not 'medicine').

I currently fissure, had H for over 30 yrs with no real issues, about 6 months ago pain started, thought it was my H, after colon test now at 58 have a fissure. I have prescription for antibiotics and anal cream now taken 5 days, after completion of antibiotics, pain back not as bad , but still cannot sit , drive etc. normally hurts only after BM, hurt all day finally went to sleep after sitz bath and apply cream, within 2 hours woke up in severe pain, found this site.
1. Drink 3 tablespoon of olive oil,
2. (Did not have Manuka honey; used organic honey ..next use enema bottle and mixed 1/2 tablespoon of Manuka Honey (100% pure) with about a 1/2 teaspoon of Virgin Coconut Oil and a splash of Aloe Vera juice. Once it was well mixed I took as much of it as I could get into the syringe (which I had first coated the outside end of the syringe with coconut oil). Had a BM immediately, then 3 more, to be honest pain is gone, I thought the mix was suppose to stay, so I mixed a second batch, imnediately 2 BM, little to no pain.
3. Clean area with witch hazel in baby wipe, then applied organic coconut oil to rectum, resting comfortable at this time.
what I learned:
1. I will take1-2 tablespoon organic olive oil at bedtime
2. Clean area with baby wipes soak in witch hazel and then apply organic coconut oil.
3. Will use honey mixture as enema as needed
I update
thanks

Why haven't I ever heard of olive oil to help with this darn suffering that I've had for the last few years. I'm 40 years old and suffer from chronic back and neck pain and I truly wanted to shoot myself with this added discomfort. I shot the olive oil up with an enema pump and if feels better already. Please make this be the end of this fissure pain this is so brutal I could only imagine how bad things get when I reach 70.

Olive Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Honey

Olive oil + cod liver oil + honey relieved my anal fissure
Yesterday, due to an agonizing pain from my bleeding anal fissures and hemorrhoids, I was browsing the internet for a relief and visited this site. I read about mineral oils, olive oil, cod liver oil, honey and beeswax and how the could relieve my situation. I managed to go out - was in serious pains - and bought some honey, cod liver and olive oils. I could not find beeswax. I took a tablespoon full of each of the oils and the honey by mouth. I then mixed 1 teaspoon of each of the items in a small glass bowl, and then applied the mixture on the external part of my anus. the anal area well lubricated, I used a dropper and injected about 2ml of the mixture in my anus. I was able to sleep quietly (took some panadol though) and I am feeling quite some relief. about twenty four hours now, I am feeling so strong and I can wait to share this with someone who may be suffering the agony of anal fissure and hemorrhoid at this time. I hope to get beeswax today and to add aleo vera gel to the combination. I believe these are all natural and little risk of overdose.

Olive oil has really worked for me also...
I injected about 3-4mm of pure olive oil inside anus before bowel movements. It lubricates the anus and makes stool pass easily. Although inject olive oil after bowel movements and before sleeping helps the skin to heal very. very fast....
I hope it helps others.

My husband has been suffering agonizing and debilitating pain from fissures for several weeks-- having to call in sick to work and not knowing day to day whether he would be fine or not able to function at all. This is such a horrible affliction to deal with Doctor-prescribed pain killers didn't even seem to help lessen the pain when he was going through the agony of a freshly irritated fissure post bm... The olive oil/cod liver oil/ honey remedy seems to be the first of many tried that helped somewhat more than all the other things he had been trying. I also want to share what we just tried this morning that really helped lessen another bout of excruciating pain so that he could go back to sleep.
First of all-- Let me share the whole regimen he has been on: Changing his diet to include more raw or lightly cooked fruits and vegetables and less processed or sugary or oily junk foods or starchy sides (such as rice or pasta or mashed potatoes). Then Orally on a daily basis: Psyllium Whole Husks which he mixes with juice and drinks at night.. Also one tablespoon of olive oil also at night, one tablespoon raw honey one capsule of cod liver oil and one tablet B6 (100 mg) and a multivitamin with zinc (the store didn't have just zinc alone so we used this with some good effect). This regimen seems to help make a much softer/smoother bm that he can pass without straining and also helps with stress level and healing processes. The fissure takes a while to heal, however, and pain still has been occurring unpredictably, on and off, even with this oral regimen-- Day to day he doesn't know if he will be fine or suffer with debilitating pain where he can't drive or go to work.. From what I have read this pain is as bad as being in labor... Topically he has found that witch hazel applied with a cotton pad to the area gives some relief (temporarily) as well as sitting in a warm bath. However, the day is still shot and he is really not able to do much except to moan and groan and fret about this. What I want everyone to know is what we JUST tried this morning that had IMMEDIATE soothing effect for the internal pain. Nothing we have tried up to now has made such an immediate difference...had read about the healing effectiveness of a mix of things and decided we should be prepared to try if he had another flare up.
Yesterday I bought an oral syringe (pharmacy didn't carry rectal syringe. I made sure it had a smooth rounded end to it (several have a pointy end which you do not want as it can possibly re-injure the area) I mixed about a 1/2 tablespoon of Manuka Honey (100% pure) with about a 1/2 teaspoon of Virgin Coconut Oil and a splash of Aloe Vera juice. Once it was well mixed I took as much of it as I could get into the syringe (which I had first coated the outside end of the syringe with coconut oil) and then gave it to my husband to administer rectally. Very important to not put the syringe to far in (just the tip up to the 2 ml mark at most) so that you don't risk damaging the area. This gave him IMMEDIATE relief so that he could go right back to sleep and from what I have been reading on line, Manuka honey has healed fissures completely within three days of daily treatment. We shall see if this works. All I can say is I am SO relieved he is not bellowing and stomping the floor in the middle of the night and hyper-ventilating and panicking that he will end up losing his job because of this affliction. I gave him a sanitary pad to use in case the stuff comes out and all I can say is how relieved I was that his pain was substantially helped.
This may be our Miracle Cure...We will do this every night before sleep and hope for no more incidents. If I remember I will post again to let you know if this treatment is 100% successful in curing and healing him.. Just wanted to share as this site has been so helpful for treating other ailments during the last few years. I recommend checking out Earth Clinic's website to everyone I speak with who is suffering from any ailment. Hope this helps someone out there!
Potassium Permanganate

ANAL FISSURE CURE
1 go to your chemist and buy a small jar of potassium permanganate, also called condys crystals
2 buy a tube of haemorhoid ointment you only need the applicator tube that comes with it,you may have one already
3 take a new sterile handkerchief or similar piece of cloth and wrap it around the applicator and covers the tip of the applicator as well.
4 get a small empty glass or jar and put about a heaped teaspoon of the condys crystals in the jar, now add a little water at a time until you get a mix which looks like pale ink,if you test it with your finger it should stain.
5 get a condom and go all around it and make holes from from the bottom to about half the way up, these will allow the mix to leak out in to the fissure.
6 now take your cloth wrapped applicator and dip it in to the mix until well soaked, you might put on plastic gloves for this job or your hands will be stained,
7 next when your cloth is really wet with the mix slip your condom with the holes in it over your assembly and tie the end off so nothing can leak an elastic band will do, and smear baby oil or vaseline on the condom.
8 now insert condom in to anus a short distance and then wiggle it about and the mix will leak in to the area of the fissure and enter the fissure....
9 I did this every day for 3 days on the third day i was pain free and it never returned, beforehand i was in agony and due for surgery, the relief of the cure was amazing
10 my doctor gave me the tip about condys but i had to work out how to get it in to the right area of the fissure because the doctor told me to sit in a bowl of it, that didnt do any good because it has to get inside so i had to brainstorm a bit to come up with my method..
11 dont treat yorself with this method unless your doctor has diagnosed you as having a fissure, and ask if this is a suitable treatment for your case, all i can tell you for sure is if you have a fissure this works and it is a permanent cure and fast, i have changed my diet since and make sure i eat fruit and drink more water.. good health

Rutin & Psyllium Husk

Tried many different things over 12-18 months, olive oil, creams, drinking more water and dietry changes. None of these worked for me. I had bad fissures to the point where there was quite a lot of blood when it was time to go. Anyways, what worked for me was 500mg of Rutin and 1000mg of psyllium husk. Five greens do a good psyllium husk mixed with dandelion extract. Those two things taken every day and within a week I was all good. Would recommend to anyone as it was a quick fix for me I just had to find what worked for me. A couple months since I started and not a single occurrence since.
St John's Wort

Anal Fissures: Hi all, I've been through this terrible disease couple of times.
First one was 4 years ago, I visited the doctor, after examination he gave me some medicine to take, cicattritina cream, and also xylocaine cream. I took some sitz baths also, after some time and day by day the pain was eliminating. It took few days though, maybe 2 weeks.
Last month it appeared again the problem, because of constipation.I had the same treatment but did not work this time.I was not so much in pain like the firs time, I could stand it.But it was really annoying, especially after BM.I used few other creams, including natural aloe vera.I read many articles and comments with reagrds to this problem.I started getting really worry, because I could not find a cure to the probleM.Finally my Pharmacist suggest to try an oil that some othe people with same problem used and worked on them.I thought to give a try, I had nothing to loose, I was desperate and the oil was totaly natural.I found my health.I used it few times, and the pain gone.THANK GOD!!! The oil is called ST JOHNS WORT and is made from a plant called Hypericum perforatum. This plant has yellow leaves, although the oil is red.
I hope some people will be helped from this. Good luck.

Turmeric

I would just like to say I have started taking turmeric capsules for an unrelated reason just over a week ago. To my complete amazement my anal fissure has cleared on its own with no other treatments. Amazing.
Vitamins C and E

Additional Vitamin C and Vitamin E for Anal Fissures
I made smoothies in the morning and at night with 1/2 cup orange juice for vitamin C and 1 ounce raw almonds for vitamin E and 1 ounce raw pumpkin seeds for zinc and my anal fissure healed completely in about 4 days.
According to the website: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2903966/ proteins, carbohydrates, arginine, glutamine, polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, copper, zinc and iron play a significant role in wound healing and their deficiencies affect wound healing.
Wheatgrass, Vitamin E

I had a anal fissure for decades. The worst was when I had toilet bowl water red with blood and allways blood when I wiped. It would seem to heal and then would retear. I tried oils, and lotions, even one gaget you freeze in the freezer. I came across Wheat Grass website that sells wheatgrass cream. I couldnt find any other supplier. I bought 3 of the creams. Then bought Carlson vitamin e suppostories 3 packs of 24. You coat the suppositories with a large amount of wheatgrass cream and insert. Using a finger also get a large amount on that tear. Dr wheat grass recomends their product for fissures so its ok to use internally. I used it after a bowl movement in the morning and at night. On weekends 3 times. And never wipe with a dry tissue I use witch hazel or water and soak the tissue. The healing factors of both the wheatgrass and vitamin e will heal that fissure. keep hydrated and use a stool softener because a hard stool with retear the fissure when healing.
Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel works great for soothing and preventing anal fissures as well as hemmoroids. I currently suffer from IBS so my bowel movement tend to be irregular, making it uncomfortable to go. Clean then wipe with a damp cotton ball (not soaked) after a each bowel movement until symptoms go away.
For hemmoroids dampen half a cotton ball and insert partially in the rectum (like a soppository) for a few hours or as long as needed. Caution! Can sometimes burn or sting a little But usually goes away.
