BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Just wanted to warn people: after my 4th adjustment from the cervical chiropractor, I had about 14 shocks in a 3 hr period following. I think I irritated my nerves more and sometimes things have to get worse before they get better--but I don't want to continue. For some people, this manipulation may work, but be aware that it can be painful at first, for Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Hello:

I was trying the oral B12 B complex (the active forms) but after awhile, the shocks started coming back quite alot. I am back on injections for now, which seem to help completely. But I have also found that going to a upper cervical chiropractor may help many people with TN. It helped me immediately.

The upper cervical chiropractors are highly skilled in the spine and neck regions. A slight adjustment (hardly noticeable) puts your neck straight and then the spine follows. This allows the nerves to work properly and must have moved my nerves off the wrong portion on the skull where the Trigeminal Nerve lies. All I know is that it stopped the shocks. I have to be careful what I do to my neck now, and I follow the doctor's advice. I will still take the B vitamins, but because of a malapsorption problem, my body just doesn't assimilate it as well as it could. It maybe a year before my body heals from the gluten I have been giving it. I am very gluten intolerant and that can cause your body to have problems storing and activating nutrients.

Look up NUCCA, which stands for National Upper Cervical Chiropractors Assocation and see if you can find a referral list for one in your home area. Then don't wait, but go. It is the best decision I ever made. There is no painful period afterwards, either, as you hear there is from osteopathics. Just relief... Some people may take more than one adjustment for total relief... but I think it works great for this affliction.

After living with Trigeminal Neuralgia for about 4 years I was at the end of my rope. I had tried everything but nothing seem to help, but I searched on. On day I came across a article that said Flaxseed and Flaxseed oil sometimes effects the effectiveness of vitamin B. I was amazed, I love flaxseed and the oil and use them daily. I decided to stop my flaxseed uses and try vitamins again. Praise God it worked. It has only been six days but each day the pain is less and less, today I am about 75% pain-free. I hope this helps someone.

Wow, it's really surprising to hear that there are some negative attributes to flax seed. Congratulations on your healing.

Bone cavities, if not fixed at the time of an extraction, will continue to cause radiating face pain. It's just like having a cavity in your tooth only it is in the bone above the tooth. It took 2-3 weeks after the extraction before the pain was completely gone and that is with a dentist that was familiar with bone cavities. Some are clueless as to what they are. The cavity was on my left side and it made the whole left side of my face ache.

I have had the excruciating pain of trigeminal neuralgia even when my B12 level was over 1,000. I have foun trigeminal neuralgia specifically linked to the amound of saturated fat that I have eaten. I was searching for some kind of relief and came across a diet for trigeminial neuralgia. It was written by Frank Sherwood. I tried it and it worked. I went off of the diet and am home today suffering the consequences. It took about one week on the diet to reep the benefits. I was also taking about one to two tegretol pills a day with the diet. It was because I felt a flicker of pain and was afraid of a full blown attack. I have not suffered a full blown attack today because I am taking tegretol but I am not feeling well because of the medication. I am convinced that the diet was the key. I also went to the chiropractor. That is also beneficial.

I'm glad to see this thread! Have suffered with TN for almost 5 years. Am a vegan most of the time, sometimes go into eating dairy for periods of months, tried Frank Sherwood's TN diet (strict control of saturated fats), found that it seemed to help for a number of months but the TN came back during a stressful time with less sleep a few weeks ago. Got disheartened, "fell off the wagon, " have been eating some junk food again, having more and worse attacks...

I was super strict from Oct. 3 through about three weeks ago: in fact by Jan. Was not only eating less than 3 grams of saturated fat a day, but also all raw--was living on raw fruit, raw veggies, raw seeds and nuts (mostly pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds and walnuts, in carefully measured small daily amounts) and just enough flax to get omega 3s. No sugar, no flour, no refined anything, no cooked or toasted foods... and exercising every day until I tried going outdoors to walk in May and began having TN attacks again--partly stress/overwork/undersleep but also pollen/pollution/mold and outdoor weather seem to trigger them off no matter how perfect my diet is.

Some things I have found that help, often work miraculously are:

HOMEOPATHIC ALLERGY/SINUS TABS. Homeopathic tabs that if I take them right at the beginning of an attack, often stop the attack completely. I always need two. Sometimes they do not work at all.

SUBMERGING MY HEAD in water. Yes, literally, "soaking my head! " I fill the bathtub with medium-warm or lukewarm or cool water depending on the ambient air temp, and kneel down and dunk my head under, slowly blowing out through my nose, holding my head under as long as possible, coming up for air and immediately going under again... After a little while it often stops the pain completely. Again, not always but it works often enough to be worth the trouble and attempt.

I will try B12-maybe my veganism is causing the TN, in part! Lack of B12. I was taking more B12 during the period when I was having fewer attacks, did not realize there was a reputation for it to help with this. Just happened to slack off by chance...

Try the homeopathic tabs! I suspect TN may have many different triggers for diff. People, but for many of us may be akin to an autoimmune/allergic response to environment. Lately I feel like a tropical fish, oversensitive to the extreme to minute changes in the air. Weather really sets these off. The tabs somehow seem to help me restabilize when my trigeminal nerves start to "go postal.

Pete, Saturated fats are actually needed by the body. The brain for one needs saturated fats. It is made up of saturated fat. Here is a youtube video on cholesterol and saturated fat and why we need it. I recommend you watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9HFZT5x9Xc

I'm a 34 yo guy from Israel, suffering 'just' a year and 8 months... after a tooth filling at the lower left molar tooth.

I suffer from constant pain all day and night... It's not a life worth living. I was a healthy guy.

And although I went to tens of doctors (took neurological medicine etc. ) - still don't have a solid diagnose. I feel that saying "atypical facial pain" - is like saying - "we don't really know - we don't really care". I still feel there's something dental that's wrong in my mouth.

Also - my jaw bone at this side of the face changed during this year. It got more "pointy". Or "boney". and by touch it feels like a very small bone grew in the angle of the mandible

Anyone had that? (a slight change in thier bones?)

Don't know what it means - and what to do with the pains...:(

Low Fat Diet May Fail Many for Trigeminal Neuralgia:

This is for Pete and others who have tried the Sherwood low fat diet of 10mg or less of fat a day. I tried it and I tried it for 2 months. It did nothing for me and may fail many others.

There is real facts and research about the low carbohydrate diet and how it has helped children with epilepsy. 1/3 of the children put on the diet had their epilepsy completely gone, 1/3 had it reduced significantly and the last 1/3 saw no improvement.

The Mayo Clinic called it the Ketogenic diet. However, since the advent of antiseizure drugs the knowledge about this diet became unknown; it is easier to treat a patient with a drug than to educate and motivate a family to make major dietary changes.

Well my doctor told me to try the Atkins Diet because it is low carbohydrate. Well I am willing to try anything before I have to go for surgery (ugh-drilling a hole in your brain is the top surgical approach recommended now but often fails)

So please anyone know about low carbohydrates and if it has helped you with Trigeminal Neuralgia, please respond. I know I have heard of one person long time ago, that said it helped her, but I can't find her entry.

Please let us know. Actually the diet allows veggies, salads, and some fruit right from the start, and you do not feel hungry. It increases your HDL (good cholesterol)and decrease the triglicerides.

Please share any information.

Donnac: Sick people are scared. When I was sick I was afraid to buy a $40 can of spirulina even though I had $2000 in the bank. At some point you have to find the courage to experiment and the initiative to take some positive action. The fear of learning anything new can be paralyzing. The first thing you want to do is take 4 cups a day of homemade water kefir. The cost is 10 cents per cup. The next thing you want to do is take some of God's Goodies that are affordable like wyoming clay 5 g 10 cents, organic cayenne 90000hu 1 g per gallon of water 2 cents, dead sea salt for magnesium 4 g 8 cents, water soluable humic acid 1 g 4 cents, and raw kelp from canada 10 g 20 cents. Then increase glutathione with raw whey because glutathione makes redox signaling molecules. Then take absorbable colostrum for the special substances and growth factors. Then you need a good strategy. The best strategy is to get most of your nutrients from raw organic grass fed wildharvested soaked sprouted and ferments foods that have been properly prepared by reputable companies highly recommended by naturopath doctors who understand the way food affects cellular biology and the mechanisms of aging. 2 years ago I was a feeble old man. Today I feel and think better than in my entire life because I take 600 g of raw organic whole dried cane juice and raw honey, 1/2 pound of raw organic berries, 20 g expellar pressed coconut oil, 30 g raw cheese, 12 g raw organic sesame oil, 60 g soaked black chia seeds, 15 g hawaiin spirulina, 7 1/2 g chlorella, 10 g nondefatted dessicated liver, 1 oz. Organic tomato paste, 40 g nondenatured microfiltered whey protein isolate, 30 g raw cocoa powder, 10 g absorbable colostrum, 3 g freeze dried 4:1 goji concentrate, 1 g hawaiin cordyceps, 3 g raw fermented skate liver oil, 30 g raw thai fish sauce that has been fermented for 2 years, 8 drops nascent iodine stablized with alcohol, and 2 1/2 gallons of water. Together these contain over 150 of the most bioactive carbs, fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, special substances, and growth factors that enable the body and brain to function at peak performance. Most of these items are shipped to me at wholesale prices. For inspiration watch raw superfood and raw organic 80/10/10 vegan videos on youtube.

Vitamin D

I was never diagnosed with MS but had many symptoms. It started with limbs falling asleep for no reason, pins and needles etc. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and my lips would be numb. Or my arm would be completely numb even though I was not applying any pressure to it. Then came other weird symptoms like memory loss, confusion, tremors, loss of balance, head vibrations. You get the drift.

I visited a couple neurologists early on who could find nothing on an MRI so I was sent away and told to "monitor things". But things got worse. When I developed full-blown trigeminal neuralgia I knew something was seriously wrong and the neurologists weren't going to cure me. Trigeminal neuralgia is an extremely painful condition and happens in a small percentage of MS patients. This is due to demylination of the sheath that protects the nerves causing severe nerve pain in the face and head. I was also having severe nerve pain all over my body. I knew if I didn't do something right away I would be on my way to an MS diagnosis. That's when I heard about Dr. Cicero Coimbra, a neurologist in Brazil who was treating his patients with high doses of vitamin D. His patients were becoming totally asymptomatic in a few months! Dr. Cicero has a long waiting list and I could not wait any longer because the pain was killing me and my symptoms were getting worse. So I got a hold of one of his patients from Australia and this woman explained the protocol to me.

WARNING:

Certain precautions need to be taken when taking high doses of vitamin D so do not undertake this without doing more research. I avoided all dairy products in order to prevent hypercalcemia and drank 2.5 litres of water every day. One must also avoid calcium supplements. Well, after 3 months of mega doses of vitamin D (I will not say the dose but it was between 10,000 and 40,000 iu per day) I was pain free! I am now on a maintenance dose of the vitamin D but I have no more trigeminal neuralgia and all of my other symptoms have disappeared! I praise God for allowing me to find this information. I now live a normal, pain-free life. Vitamin D not only halts progression of MS but it reverses damage done. A true miracle.

Dear Bee,

I read your post last night and have been researching since. I've also been praying about this, and believe I am supposed to try it. I DO have a diagnosis of both MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia, and the TN pain has been unbearable for the past four months.

In addition, I know my Vitamin D levels have been low in past years, and at one time I was on 10,000iu a day and still didn't max out my Vitamin D blood test numbers.

I don't see a neurologist anymore, as my Primary Care Doctor is fantastic, and much more naturopathic than any neurologist I've ever seen. My Doc supported me in taking 10,000iu of Vitamin D, and it's when I ran low and didn't refill that the TN really set in.

After reading your post last night, I put all of the pieces together. I'm writing to ask if you would be willing to share with me how much you took on a daily basis. If I weren't desperate from the pain, I wouldn't bother you. However, I deeply appreciate your consideration.

I'm looking forward to being able to praise God for a miracle, too. I praise Him for so many other things on a daily basis, even through the pain. I so hope that I might know what it is to be pain and pain medicine free, though.

I'm already on a gluten-free; sugar-free; and 90% dairy free diet. I can cut the other 10% out with no problem.

Many thanks for your consideration.

Hi Jes,

I'm so sorry I never saw your message before. I am the original poster of this thread and I can say that 1 year later, I am still living free of trigeminal neuralgia and all MS symptoms. If I lower my dose or forget to take my vitamin D for a few weeks I can feel minor symptoms returning (like pins and needles etc) but all I do is simply up my dose a little again and all is well. I can't imagine what my life would have been if I hadn't found this. Research vitamin D! It's a cheap cure and it that is why it is not promoted by Big Pharma. They'd rather you take their meds for the rest of your life. This cure will work for anyone with neuro symptoms, MS or trigeminal neuralgia due to demylination. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me - bee_mcc (at) hotmail (dot) com.

Editor's Choice

My mother had been suffering the excruciating trigeminal neuralgia (TN) attacks for almost 30 years. She was given painkillers/steroids which help only a temporarily relief of her pain. She had also tried many traditional medications without much success. It was only recently that she was introduced the below natural remedy that we see vast improvement in alleviating her pain.

Ingredients:

2 cups of water
1 average size of White Radish (White Carrot)
Slices of fresh Ginger (optional)

Steps :

1. Wash the white radish, cut into smaller pieces

2. Add 2 cups of water to ceramic pot, close the lid, put to boil

3. Switch off when liquid content reduced from 2 cupful to 1 cup.

4. Drink the liquid between dinner time 7pm to 8pm only

Note : For those elderly who experience discomfort due to radish being a cooling vegie, ginger slices can then be added in step 2.

My mother has seen major improvement after only few attempt, she can now comfortably chew on almond nuts too which she never did for a long time. We like to give thanks and hope by the sharing of this wonderful recipe, many others could benefit from this horrible experiences.

I was DX with TN- I would get shocks in the lower 2 branches of C5. That would occur when I ate, brushed my teeth or just talking. It would shock on its own, I couldn't control it. The shocks were strong. Later that progressed into a very intense painful shock on the top of my head, at the root of C5. I went to ER and they proscribed Carbamazapine. That took care of the intense top-of-the-head pain, but did nothing for the branch shocks. They still continued on their own.

So I read more and found that a virus also could contribute to TN. I have an old Bob Beck Zapper from the 90's. It works by placing the contact probes over the Ulna and Radial arteries. I would use the zapper 30 min each nite before bed. W/i 2 days the involuntary shocks stopped. Now all I had were the shocks that I triggered off by touching various spots on my face (R side only) I noticed that the intensity of the shocks decreased from 12/10 to 5/10. I quickly learned where not to touch on my face.

After about a month of nightly zapping, I am now to the point where my shocks are gone, even when toughing my face. It looks like the virus was the main cause of my TN. I continue to zap each nite for 30 min. This is a blood purifier and takes care of all pathogens and viruses in the blood.

This post is really about the difficulty I had in diagnosing the root cause of the migraines.

For a long time, I was mystified why I was getting a migraine headache. I have really been bearing down hard in understanding the cause for the past 4 years. I tried many migraine remedies. There have been many myths about migraines especially blood flow which compounded the problems. Researches have found migraines emanate from the brain stem somewhere. Not inside the brain.

The tried the standard remedies b2, B6, b5, magnesium, bromelain, butterbur, q10, ginger root, feverfew to no avail. I found magnesium and b2 worked to some degree but not enough so I even experimented with the coenzyme B vitamins and methylation cycle problems which were dead ends also. I still had not much control over my migraines.

It wasn't until I went to a chiropractor that I started to peel away at the cause. I found the chiropractor treatments worked some but I still had problems. Doing the treatments helped me understand that tightened muscles aggravated the condition which made sense why magnesium helps many people.

I also noticed the pain receding over the right eye to the side of my head with chiropractor treatment. I thought it may be an indication that I may have trigeminal neuralgia although I didn't have the shocks.

Over time the pain would recede to the C2 area of the spinal column. That was the proof I needed to diagnose occipital neuralgia. From there I was able to dig deeper. There had been some opinions that occipital neuralgia could be caused by herpes virus so I started focusing on the neuralgia aspect.

A few years back I pondered the possibility that it could be herpes caused so took some lysine for a couple days but that didn't put a
dent in the pain so assumed it was not the cause. I investigated herpes further and came back to lysine which I gave up on earlier. Also I added vitamin C. I found that the lysine helped a lot more. Without the chiropractor treatments and magnesium at same time also, it would have been hard to untangle everything.

I finally realized my migraines were caused by occipital neuralgia which in turn is caused by herpes zoster. also it was the root cause of the chronic meningitis I have had on ocassions.

I have had low level chronic shingles my entire life but they don't break out in skin eruptions like most people but just a little tingling on my the skin.

I ignored it most of my life since I was overloaded with a zillion other worse things. I did take a homeopathic formula for shingle 15 years ago that helped a lot with tingling but never touched the migraine.

I have had ME/CFIDS essentially my entire life. I am 60 years old. The virus is very aggressive in me. The heart of ME/CFIDS is that it is at it's root an encephalopathy disease so had difficulty untangling it from that.

I have gone to another chiropractor before this and he wasn't really able to help me but he wasn't as equipped as the other chiropractor who used a proadjuster. I have come to realize why my trapezium muscles tighten hence I can easily relax them myself on my own.

The point to this story is that I had to peel away at the problem to understand what the underlying cause of my migraine and eventually neuralgia was. The other point is that a chronic migraine could be caused by an underlying infection.

By the way, I have been using a Terminator 2 Zapper.
