Digestive Problem Link
[YEA] 10/11/2009: Ann from Deer Park, Wa: "After months of reoccurring shingles, I discovered that reoccurring shingles is a sign of a serious underlying health problem. In my case it was a digestive problem and when I was able to get that under control the shingles quit coming back. I have since read that many other common ailments, such as arthritis, have been traced back by naturepaths to digestive problems. My advice: take especially good care of your digestive system."Replies
01/22/2014: Quercus from La, Ca replies: "I would add be sure what you have is Shingles and not dermatitis herpetiformis. After suffering for several years with what had been diagnosed as Shingles, I found I have a gluten sensitivity/celiac disease.
Gluten sensitivity/celiac disease causes a rash that is often misdiagnosed as Shingles. I read an article by a dermatologist where he found that over 50% of the people he saw complaining from Shingles, had a gluten rash instead. If you keep getting "Shingles" and nothing seems to help, stop eating grains with gluten in them. Wheat, Barley and Rye all have the offending gluten.
I was continually getting"Shingles". Sometimes they would just start healing and then I would get them in another area. I tried everything possible. Lysine, vitamin C, laying off chocolate and nuts, ACV VCO, Aloe, etc. I couldn't sleep, was itching and scratching all of the time. They were painful red and scaring.
I read the article and decided what the heck, I will try eliminating gluten and see what happens. Within 2-3 days the itching had almost totally disappeared. Within 5 days all of the blisters were healing, nearly half were gone. The best part was I didn't get any new ones.
Now I watch everything I eat. Even then it is hard not to get a cross contaminated food item. The food industry puts wheat in everything. Just a little bit causes me to breakout. The good part is that I now can enjoy chocolate and nuts.
Gluten problems according to several experts could affect nearly 70% of the US. Try avoiding gluten for a couple of weeks and see. It may change your life."
DMSO, Stabilized Oxygen
[YEA] 07/15/2009: Dianchilada from Santa Cruz, California: "DMSO thin layer at prodrome
Stabilized liquid oxygen 2 drops per 8 oz sip all day
colonic of 12 drops of stabilized liquid oxygen and 60 drops of water 5 to 1. 2times a day for three days
do procedure for three days
If you already have an outbreak you may experience more of an outbreak if you start procedure at prodrome then the shingles will not break out on the skin should clear episode in 72 hours shingles probably won't bother you again.
DMSO cured my shingles"
EC: "In medicine, a prodrome is an early non-specific symptom (or set of symptoms) that might indicate the start of a disease before specific symptoms occur."
Edgar Cayce Remedies
02/22/2013: Redbaron75 from Orlando, Fl, Usa : "Edgar Cayce's remedies for herpes zoster (shingles). I found this on the Edgar Cayce website: http://www.edgarcayce.org/are/holistic_health/data/prhz3.html"
Electro Muscle Stimulus
03/14/2011: D. Ron from Madison, Wi, Usa: "A patient came to my office with painful shingles on her arm and back. Ran my electro muscle stim over the area for about 10 minutes. She came in a week later and told me the shingles cleared with in 48 hours."
10/01/2011: Bernadette from Albuquerque, New Mexico: "For at least the next six - eight weeks, ELIMINATE SUGAR from your diet. When I had shingles a few years ago, getting off sugar helped because shingles seem to thrive on sugar.
Take supplements to strengthen your immune system. As your body strengthens, the pain will get less and usually the lesions will go away within 6 months or so.
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER... THIS IS A MISERABLE CONDITION!! :-)"
Eradicating the Shingles Virus
08/11/2010: Jon from Palm City, Fl: "Shingles
Bill: I read that there are some programs on the site but they seem to treat shingles episodes or reduce them. Is there an aspirin or Lysine/Vit C program to completely kill the virus?"
[YEA] 01/27/2009: Daisy from Oklahoma, USA: "For shingles, a combination of ravensara essential oil and Calophyllum inophyllum (also known as Foraha or Tamanu oil) can be an effective treatment. Ravensara is STRONGLY antiviral. Calophyllum has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Together, they seem to work extremely well on shingles.
Try a mixture of 25% calophyllum, 10% ravensara essential oil, and 65% carrier oil (such as jojoba oil or olive oil).
Basil essential oil diluted in olive oil is also reported to be effective in helping shingles."
[YEA] 11/27/2012: Jenesse from Mesa, Az, USA replies: "Yes, the recommendation for Ravensara (Ravintsara) and Callophylum / Tamanu nut oil is from Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt's "Advanced Aromatherapy". You can use a 50-50 concentration. No additional carrier oil needed. I added a few drops of geranium which is also a great anti-viral oil. This blend smells earthy and sweet - it's great!
I currently have the VERY characteristic "shingles pain" , no blisters yet. The pain is already MUCH better and I'm praying it only gets better not worse. I additionally took a few oregano capsules, lots of L-Lysine and got a chiropractic adjustment - just be to be sure. I HATE the shingles!!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 11/10/2011: Ruark from Sydney, Nsw Australia: "I have been experiencing shingles for the first time. On the face which is excrutiating. Read a post here on using eucalyptus oil, so I just applied some and it certainly quelled the pain. As soon as I can get someone to help apply it to my scalp I reckon it will knock down the degree of pain too. Wow shingles is horrendous, any relief and a good night's sleep please."Replies
05/27/2012: Sarah B from Jefferson Twp., Pa replies: "I used an essential oil mix that has provided so much relief in only a day and a half. Tried bc it was all I had that had Eucalyptus oil in it and turned out to be amazing."
[YEA] 02/26/2009: Matt from Attleboro, Ma. USA: "Shingles relief: To get rid of the itch as soon as possible rub a garlic clove over the area. It works even better in the shower because the heat draws it in better. This will work and you can do it a few times a day like before work and after work in the shower and before bed . I also use bag balm after to prevent scaring. But the garlic is the best solution"
03/13/2013: Sharon from Florence, Montana, Usa: "I'm a 59 year old female and have recently been diagnosed with Shingles. I have it on my scalp, forehead, eye and ear. It is localized to my left side. I can't use the cayenne pepper because of my eye but I intend to try the ACV. I noticed on all the posts I read that there was no mention of gland involvement. The glands behind and in front of my left ear, down the left side and back of my neck are where most of the terrible pain I am experiencing is. I too am having the burning and itching at the lesion sites but my glands are what is so painful. Any answers to help for that? I will keep you posted on how the other remedies worked after I get started on them. I too am so grateful that I stumbled onto this site. All of the posts have been very insightful."Replies
03/14/2013: Joy from Battlegound, Wash replies: "I feel for you, been there a few times. Once I used a dandruff shampoo on the outbreak and it toned down the misery to almost null. I had three shampoos at the time, so it may have been s..... blue or h... and shoulders or another common one but no coal tar, DON'T GO THERE. That stuff burns like hell. Get a relaxation tape with deep breathing, these are brought on by stress... B vitamins and calming herbs might help. Start writing a journal about what is going on in your mind and emotions. My first outbreak was on the stitches from neck surgery."
03/14/2013: Alexandra from Cheshire, England replies: "Hi Sharon, I had shingles on my right hand side, (itchy spots on back/shoulder, intense pain above elbow to swollen gland in arm pit). Doctor gave me a prescription, but said it probably wouldn't work because I hadn't caught it early enough. I did not collect the medication.
Tried lavender oil on the spots and they disappeared quickly. But the pain was still intense in arm and glands, the arm skin was unbearable to touch even though there was nothing visible there. Saw a different doctor who said it probably wasn't shingles because he couldn't see any spots. So came to Earth Clinic, thought I would try L-lysine. I'd had the pains for about 6 weeks, then tried the Lysine, and they were gone in a few days. I had also been taking vitamin C."
02/08/2013: Mary Jo from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania: "My mom has shingles. I am 62 and have had chicken pox. Can I get them from her?"Replies
02/08/2013: Kelly from Cambridge, Ma replies: "@Mary Jo - No, you will not catch it. Only those who have not had chicken pox can catch the virus from someone with shingles. (PHEW, huh?) :)"
12/02/2011: Need To Know from Huntsville, Alabama: "Does Epsom Salts help Post-Shingles Neuropathy Pain? I really need to know!!"
11/19/2011: Jeanne from Fraser, Mi, Usa: "What I thought was a pulled muscle in my mid back, turned out to be Shingles... And the pain was unreal. I only had a few blisters, and did end up on antiviruls. Now, a month later.. Some days are ok, some aren't.. But now I have this redness, and itching, around my middle, between my bra line and waist. I thought that it was from all the fruit that I have been eating.. Or all the vit C and supplements.. But I now remember that I have had this off and on for a long time (around my middle)... Again I just thought that it was a reaction from eating too much fruit. In my subject line, you see I think this has been years, and I will explain.
Years ago I woke up with a fever and sore throat, went immedialty to Dr. as I am prone to throat infections, he gave me a shot, and meds. Within a couple of days, my mouth was burning, and my joints where so sore I could hardly move, even my jaw muscles.. Could hardly eat. Went thru all the tests, and just about everything came back ok.. My Dr. said it was an arthritic episode of some sort. Well, my knee to this day still hurts, (muscle).. At that same time, I was under a lot of stress, and right before this (episode) I was getting this sharp stabbing pain above by shoulder by my neck, it was a burning pain.. Not unbearable, just hurt all the time.. Went to chiropractor, told that it was prob. Fibromyalgia.. , rubs, massage, nothing seemed to take this away. I still, to this day have that same pain, but have noticed that I had a very slight rash, with a few raised pimple-like spots... but again just figured that it was the topicals I was using for the pain..
I really think that I have been with this shingle thing for yrs... I am 65.. And I really think this all started over 20 yrs ago. I have had odd rashes, muscle pain, joint pains and along with that, this burning, in just little areas here and there.. again for yrs..
Since I have done all this reading, and I mean a lot (this site is awesome).. I truly think it's just been happening off and on until the really big hit.. With the major pain, and actual blisters.. and you all know the rest (pain)..
I'm so afraid of that pain coming back.. I have been doing so many of the remedies that I have read here.. Feel ok.. Just scared.. I guess I have read myself into panic.. Especially googling and reading all the real bad horror stories.. doesn't do me any good, either..LOL...
Thanks for listening..."
10/17/2011: Pam from West Des Moines, Ia: "I have suffered for 2 years with PHN from shingles. I've read where IV Vitamin C has helped many with this condition -- but my doctor will not do this. I've read that oral Vitamin C offers no benefit -- only the IV Vitamin C allows the development of hydrogen peroxide in the tissues which makes it a pro-oxidant not an antioxidant. Is there a treatment with actual hydrogen peroxide that will do the same as IV Vit. C?"
08/17/2011: Patrice04 from Corona, Ca, Usa: "Is it possible to have Shingles in just one small spot? My cousin says this has happened to her many times- now, it seems to have happened to me as well. Just on my right arm, like my cousin. I have ALL the pain, signs, etc. However, when I see pictures online it seems that others have blisters in a much larger area."Replies
09/13/2011: Gramma Lynne from Springville, Indiana replies: "Yes, as I understand it, shingles can definitely break out only in one area. I am currently working through an episode involving only my right shoulder, arm and hand. I do believe there are underlying health issues that cause the shingles to occur in a particular area. In my case, that is a weak rotator cuff in my right shoulder. The nerves become inflamed, triggering the latent virus left over from smallpox.
I came to this site looking for help for the deep residual pain and a few persistent sores. At the moment, I'm dabbing on some ACV which I've had here all along, but didn't know to use. Too early to tell yet, but it seems as though it may be helping.
Blessings to all of you as you fight through this. It is certainly one of the more difficult things this ol' 70 year old Gramma has ever had to deal with!"
