3 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  Ursula from Barrington, IL writes: "ACV has helped me with a recent bout of shingles. Instead of drinking the vinegar, I applied a solution of 1 tsp. ACV with 1/4 cup of water with some cotton balls. I also made a foot-bath with 1/4 cup of ACV and 1 gallon of warm water, twice a day for three days. The sores were healed within a few days and gone was the pain."

[YEA]  Stan from Glendale, AZ writes: "I read the ACV cure 3 days into a breakout of shingles and started taking a teaspoon twice a day in water. My shingles were gone in another 4 days. A month later, I got an itch and the small beginning bumps on both my right wrist and side, I started the ACV immeadiatly and the breakout never happened! Seems to work as a preventative too."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, CAYENNE

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/11/2009: Gene from Sarasota, FL writes: "This is my second shingles attack, folks! First one lasted 60 days and was the most unbelievably painful thing I had ever experienced. Interestingly enough, 100% of the shingles was sub-surface, with no redness, raised areas or pustules. The deep pain was beyond words.

Now, four years later, in a period of incredible stress, I've got the damned thing again -- this time, with a left leg and the front/back of the left side of my torso covered in mega-patches of fiery pustules. Pain inside (emanating from the locus deep inside the nerve) and out.

Then, a friend of a friend mentioned ACV and I went surfing and found your site.

Last night (day 3), I covered the sores with ACV&Cayenne, and took two half shot glasses of ACV mixed with Cayenne. Within about an hour the pain - inside and out - completely went away. Yes, completely, and I had what seemed like one of the best sleeps I had had in a long time.

This AM thru noon, I felt great, but this early afternoon I'm still a little shakey -- a slight twinge here, a slight twinge there. And the pustules are still there, but not increasing in size (and, as I write this, only a very, very, very occasional itch/pain from my little read friends.

I am going to keep this up, and have absolutely no doubt that this will do the trick. In fact, I'm going to apply your ACV/CP elixer as soon as I press 'send'."

04/21/2009: Gene from Sarasota, FL USA replies: "I have a previous posting on Apr. 11, 2009 (day 3 of my attack), which is currently logged under ACV+Cayenne. It would be helpful if you started there. This is an update, ten days later, and should be tremendously useful if you are debating whether to try a natural remeby for Shingles, specifically Apple Cide Vinegar.

Ten days ago, with a bad shingles rash and moderate deep pain, I turned to ACV/C. I had already been on western meds, specifically valtrex & prednisone, and I had no sense that they were doing any good.

Almost immediately, the pain (bit NOT the rash) went away. I continued swigging about half a shot glass of ACV sprinkled with Cayenne, three times a day, and used the same mixture topically a few times daily as well.

After a week, I felt I was completely cured, with the exception of the rash, and dutifully forgot about everything. After all, the smell and taste of ACV don't set the world on fire and aren't powerful motivators to hang in there once cured!

I realized yesterday that, during the past three days, the pain was back and had been for a couple of days now. Particularly, at night, I'd say the pain (in my case deep nerve pain) was perhaps a 7-8 out of 10 (the first time I had shingles it was a 10 out of 10, many times, so I know the scale!).

I had been lazy and listened to all my friends, including several doctors, saying 'It's the Western meds, dummy', and I figured I was in good hands once it stopped. Also, since the rash was taking forever to disappear, receding glacially, but no longer hurting, I felt that I didn't the ACV/C and it was probably an old wives tale anyway.

Boy was I wrong.

This is what I've learned:

1. A virus isn't over when you say it is. It's over when it decides it's run the course.

2. In going back on ACV, the topical pain (which had come back a bit in the past couple of days), stopped on the spot. Taking it yesterday AM, the topical cleared up immediately and the pain stopped throughout the day. Night was a different matter.

3. Two nights ago, the pain was terrible through the night. Last night - the first night since I had been back on ACV - the pain was gone until 5:58am (I went to sleep at 10pm, so I had 7 solid hours).

4. I finally got out of bed around 7:30, with a deep pain in the left side of my lower back. Within 10 minutes of takinf ACV internally and topically, the slight itching was gone and the internal pain had gone from a 7/8 to a 2/3.

Everyones disease and progress is different, and anecdotal evidence for me does not mean a hell of a lot in your case. But I wanted to give as much detail as possible so that you could see exactly how ACV has impacted what I'm going through.

I am dissapointed that the rash is only abating slowly, but - if I had to choose between reallybad, debilitating pain and the side effects pain and sleeplessness produces, and a rash, which in my case is under the shirt/pants and not visible, I'll take the rash anyday!

Count me as an ACV believer. Not once - but twice - in the same illness! Good luck with your shingles!!

Gene"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, L-LYSINE, VITAMIN C

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/27/2009: Bruce from Hart, Michigan writes: "I have had shingles for about 10 years. It started at age 69. I never had a serious rash but the pain has been the worst. My shingles is concentrated in my right forehead, around my eye and in my nose and in my teeth- upper right. When I first had the pain I would fall down and see stars. I've tried all the bad drugs with very limited results and gave them up. Until I was referred to this web site just 4 weeks ago. I now take 2 tablespoons of acv and 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup in distilled water twice a day, one acv tablet 3 times a day, one LLysine capsule daily, 3000 mg of Vitamin C daily and I go in once a week to receive a Vitamin C intravenous injection once a week. From the first swallow of acv the pain left me and has not returned. Prior to this I could hardly eat, talk and I lived with constant pain. It is a real miracle. Thank you everyone for your input to this great web site."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, LYSINE

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/21/2009: ELFGIRL from Buffalo, NY writes: "I'm a 52 year old female - the ACV works! I admit that the bout of Shingles I had was not too bad. The first night I tried the ACV both internal and external the redness and itching started to go away. I included in fight against shingles by taking between 3,000 - 4,000 mg of lysine. This helps boost your immune system both for shingles and cold sores. I also used calamine lotion and Zorvorax. In less than 2 days the blisters were drying up and the itching was going away I finally could sleep. I highly recommend the ACV as a great method in treating shingles."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, VITAMINS, ACUPUNCTURE

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/02/2008: Bert from New Brunswick, NJ writes: "SHINGLES REMEDY I'm getting over a case of the shingles now. Thank you for all the inputs provided here...they really helped. Here's what worked for me. When the rash starts to appear accompanied with the burning sensation, apply vinegar to the rash. This will soothe the burn (this same remedy is used in jellyfish stings) Also use Neosporin to help with healing and the itching. Aleeve or Tylenol for the pain. TylenolPM at night to help me sleep. I also took Vitamin C, B and Lysine everyday. When the rash first appeared, I was in so much pain that I was willing to do anything that would ease the pain. My friend recommended acupuncture so on I went. My skin was so sensitive to touch that they could only apply the acupuncture needles in a small portion of the rash. The part of the rash that received the treatment never actually turned to blisters. It just became less red and went away. The rest turned into red bumps and blisters. That was my first time getting acupuncture. I was so nervous. I'm not a fan of needles at all but I think it really helped eased the pain and the rash. So if you are brave enough for it I think acupuncture works."

BLACK SALVE

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/16/2008: Kate from Nevada City, CA USA writes: "I have used black salve successfully on many different skin lesions, as well as moles. Two years ago I had an initial, very painful outbreak of shingles on my chest. After several days of suffering I decided to try black salve on the blisters. At first it hurt like heck, but it hurt anyway. By the next day the pain and itching were gone. It took a long time to heal completely, and a couple more spots appeared in the area along the way (which I treated also), but the pain was gone and it eventually healed nicely. I still have scars, but no more problems since.

I haven't seen any other postings for using it on shingles, so I thought someone might find it helpful."

10/20/2008: Kat from Drummond, Montana replies: "I just learned of black salve from a friend of mine who used it on a growth on her breast that looked like it had spider veins coming from it when xrayed. In 6 months time, when they re-xrayed that growth it was completely gone! I have psoriosis and am wondering if anyone has any info on me maybe trying this black salve on it"

CAPSAICIN CREAM, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

08/29/2009: Janbug from Jewett, Texas, USA writes: "My husband came down with shingles after chemo and back surgery. The doctor gave him the regular meds with extra nerve pills but it did not stop the pain. I called the nurse and ask what to use. I was told to use capsaicin which I went to get as quick as I could on a friday afternoon. I put the cream on him and thought he was going to burn up. I think it may work because the pain on the outside of the skin hurts so bad you forget about the pain on the inside for a little bit. I thought I would go crazy trying to find something to help make his pain go away so I got on line and found your site. I have started him on 2 tablespoons of the Apple Cider Vinegar in water and rubbing his neck and scalp. I pray it works and I thank you for being there for me to find. jan in texas"

08/30/2009: Diane from Uniontown, Pa replies: "I had read Dr. Morton Walker's book about Olive Leaf extract, so when my son had shingles, he reluctantly took OLE. (He must have been desperate to try one of mama's remedies, haha) I wanted him to take two to four a day (500 mg is what we have on hand) but I can't say for sure how many he did take. All I know is that he improved quickly, (a few days) and hasn't had a problem with shingles after that. You could Google "olive leaf extract" shingles, for more info."

CASTOR OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/11/2009: Junglegirl from Haiku, Hawaii writes: "Shingles treatment: My mother used a high quality pure castor oil slathered on the worst spots. But it worked."

CLAY

1 YEA

[YEA]  Jathinder from Kent, UK writes: "I have taken this opportunity to pass on this cure for shingles after my son suffered a severe case of shingles on his face. After trying several creams by the doctor which failed to work I decided to use a powered form of clay which I mixed to a medium paste with distilled water and put in on my sons face where the shingles first appeared, only covering the blistering ares. This enabled the drying clay to absorb the liquid coming from the blisters, as I found it was this liquid from his face when spread which caused further blisters when in contact with his skin. This helped contain the shingles to a small part of his face until the virus had taken its course. I hope this is of help but I know how helpless I felt when the first bout of shingles spread over half of my son's face with the creams doing nothing to help. The clay paste needs to be applied regularly as if too thick it cracks and flakes of, too thin and it will not absorb the weeping blisters therefore a consistency which you can see absorb the weeping blisters is fine."

COCOA BUTTER, VITAMIN E AND DLPA

[YEA]  05/07/2007: Kat from Orlando, Florida writes: "I have found that a combination of cocoa butter/vitamin e cream, and herbal pain killer DLPA have helped with the pain, though it doesnt take away the tingling feeling. but the really bad burning is tolerable now, and the itching is almost completely gone. I have also read a lot of homeopathic remedies that say urine applied topically can help. but im kinda scared to try that one."

COCONUT OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/22/2006: Carol from Los Angeles, CA writes: "My sister had an attack of shingles with pain so bad she could barely walk. She was misdiagnosed at first and told she would need back surgery. The 3rd doctor diagnosed shingles, and warned her that the terrible pain could possibly be permanent and that the ugly blisters on her back might cause scarring. She told me this on a Sunday morning and I said, "Try coconut oil. Keep it in your system (3 tablespoons a day)." She did, plus rubbed it on her back. The very next day, Monday, she went back to work (she had been out over 2 weeks), and worked ALL day. She told me that her pain had stopped and that the blisters were going away. It has been a week now and she is feeling "better and better." Because of her success, I began using Coconut oil for myself and noticed overnight improvement for my rosacea. May I also say that I think coconut oil tastes delicious!"

CORN STARCH

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/25/2008: Kenneth from Great Falls, Montana writes: "My mother is 90 years old and has been suffering horrible pain from shingles. After using everything the doctors had to offer including morphine pills and other suggestions, I came up with the following:

Took corn starch and very cold water and wash cloths. I applied them to the area that was in pain. Within about 10 minutes I could feel the cold cloth becoming as warm as her skin. I kept changing the cloth about every 15 minutes. In addition, took a hot water bottle and put it in the freezer. It is now day two and she is coming out of it without itching and the unbearable pain. Don't know why, but it works."

CORN STARCH AND CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/21/2006: Sharon from Pecatonica, IL writes: "I was diagnosed with shingles. My first episode with these horrible things. The leasions were on my left breast and under my left arm pit also across my left back. The pain was bad enough my oncologist thought that I was passing either a heart or lung clot. The test they did came back negative for clots. I tried the medication for shingles and it did nothing. I applied plain old corn starch to the leasions after my shower or when ever they started to hurt or irritate me. I also told my chiropractor about the shingles. After just two adjustments My shingles started to clear up and were gone except for the red color of my skin where they were, in just three days."

DIGESTIVE PROBLEM LINK

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/11/2009: Ann from Deer Park, Wa writes: "After months of reoccurring shingles, I discovered that reoccurring shingles is a sign of a serious underlying health problem. In my case it was a digestive problem and when I was able to get that under control the shingles quit coming back. I have since read that many other common ailments, such as arthritis, have been traced back by naturepaths to digestive problems. My advice: take especially good care of your digestive system."

DMSO, STABILIZED OXYGEN

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/15/2009: Dianchilada from Santa Cruz, California writes: "DMSO thin layer at prodrome
Stabilized liquid oxygen 2 drops per 8 oz sip all day
colonic of 12 drops of stabilized liquid oxygen and 60 drops of water 5 to 1. 2times a day for three days

do procedure for three days

If you already have an outbreak you may experience more of an outbreak if you start procedure at prodrome then the shingles will not break out on the skin should clear episode in 72 hours shingles probably won't bother you again.

DMSO cured my shingles"

ESSENTIAL OILS

1 YEA

[YEA]  01/27/2009: Daisy from Oklahoma, USA writes: "For shingles, a combination of ravensara essential oil and Calophyllum inophyllum (also known as Foraha or Tamanu oil) can be an effective treatment. Ravensara is STRONGLY antiviral. Calophyllum has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Together, they seem to work extremely well on shingles.

Try a mixture of 25% calophyllum, 10% ravensara essential oil, and 65% carrier oil (such as jojoba oil or olive oil).

Basil essential oil diluted in olive oil is also reported to be effective in helping shingles."

It works even better in the shower because the heat draws it in better. This will work and you can do it a few times a day like before work and after work in the shower and before bed . I also use bag balm after to prevent scaring. But the garlic is the best solution"

L-LYSINE

3 YEA

[YEA]  07/12/2006: Laura writes: "I heard about Shingles before but this is my first experience and what an experience had been so far!! It affected the left part of my face having my eye pretty compromised. I'm using antibacterial ointement for my eye, and is improving. I'm very careful with cleanness, washing right away towels, pillowcases etc. that had been in contact with my face. My main concern is to avoid the possibility of infecting also my right eye. I have a big property and love to work in the garden. Well, I'll not put my hands in the dirt until am out of the woods. I had been reading about the topical and internal application with apple vinegar and i'm willing to try since I have now those ugly red scars from the rash, maybe will help to heal faster, I'll be glad to let you know. If someone wants to write to me and exchange tips, please, feel free to do so. Following suggestions from the book in Nutritional Healing - James and Phyllis Balch - I'm taking L-Lysine, Vitamins C, B complex B12 - A - regular medication. Diet is important too, maintain a possitive attitude and stay away from depression, it doesn't help at all. "

L-LYSINE AND VITAMINC

2 YEA

[YEA]  04/04/2008: Valeria from Eden Prairie, Minnesota - USA writes: "I developed shingles in October 2007, however, all I had was all the discomforts of the disease and never developed the rash. About 3 days ago (4-2-08) I began experiencing the same symptoms again. It was jsut a fluke that I began taking vitamin C and Lysine tablets. I had some Lysine on hand and determined that if the Lysine was good for preventing or lessening the pain of cold sores - why shouldn't it work to help allieviate the shingles. So I began taking the Lysine and also the Vitamin C. The dosage of the tablets for the Lysine is 1000 mg. and the Vitamin C is also 1000 mg. I have been taking two Vitamin C and 2 Lysine tablets about every four hours and it is definitely helping to relive the pain. I have also had pain meds which my doctor recommended last fall - but they do not seem to do much of anything. I hope that this will help someone else - I am 77 and never had shingles before last October. I have not developed the rash this time either."
