Best Home Remedies to Cure Chronic, Swollen Lymph Nodes

"Lymphadenopathy is a term meaning "disease of the lymph nodes." It is, however, almost synonymously used with "swollen/enlarged lymph nodes".

When the infection is of the lymph nodes themselves, it is called lymphadenitis, but when the infection is of the lymph channels, it is called lymphangitis.

Enlarged lymph nodes are a common symptom in a number of infectious and cancerous diseases. It is a recognized symptom of many diseases," (Wikipedia)

TED'S REMEDIES

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Dear Tracee: Yes certain pus, infectious buildup, is often due to the need for the body to rid itself of toxins rather quickly and it is my experience that the common remedy (perhaps only for me!)will usually stop fairly quickly:

1. It is necessary to alkalize in cases of infections, you need to do alkalizing and getting loose stools all in one step. The formula is 1 teaspoon sea salt + 1 teaspoon of baking soda, to one glass of water. This will cause the body to rid of toxins pretty quickly. To reduce toxins release by bacteria, and other things, you can add a drop of peppermint oil if you want. This procedure, at least for me is done when the swelling and things is getting beyond control, such as in your case.

2. Once the body rids itself of the mess, the swelling should be noticeably reduced, faster than you expected.

3. If you can find camphorated oil, or a possibly lavender oil, you can apply it, you need to dilute it a if you are going to use sensitive area to apply to the lymph node area in question using either vaseline, or sunflower oil. These will not only reduce the irritation, but also kill the organism dwelling in these areas.

You need to take at least 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid to 1/2 glass of water at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in evening on empty stomach. However, a more useful way is to monitor your urinary pH and make sure they are within the range of 6.5 to 7.35 area. If you are still acid, keep taking more baking soda if need be, or you can take a whole freshly squeezed lemon (looks like a lot) and keep adding baking soda until there is no more fizz and you can take this once or twice a day. The lemon formula will not only control your pH, it also controls the body's antioxidant level, commonly called ORP (oxidation reduction potential) which is measured in millivolts. An ideal healthy body will have a negative millivolt potential, but a sick person will not. This is easily measured with urinary pH.

If you happened to be on a salt free diet, start taking some salt. They are often the cause. If this is correct, then just take only a single teaspoon of it, in one single dose. I have found infections to be in some cases from salt restriction diet. Of course you need to monitor your blood pressure and make sure it is not high, but in practice if sea salt is taken alone on empty stomach, they don't seem to raise it. Most of the problems occur on a high sugar high salt. In fact I can use the salt to raise or reduce blood pressure. Salt + baking soda = causes loose stool, and reduce blood pressure. Salt + sugar = causes a stoppage of diarrhea and increase blood pressure. Two simple formula using salt with totally opposite results.

You should be greatly helped by taking zinc (zinc acetate), selenium (selenium yeasts), chromium and molybdenum supplements (lowers copper and thus normalizes zinc copper ratio). In some cases doing some iodine painting of foot will also raise the body's immune system to fight off your lymph problems.

Most important, that I must repeat: monitor your urinary pH every day and make sure it is alkaline. It is important that you avoid sugar, fructose, corn syrup, glucose, aspartame, etc. They cause the body's infection to be so much worse. Avoid all sweet fruits, especially pineapple, bananas, orange, etc. They fuel swollen lymph glands. It is important to take plenty of zinc supplements 25/mg per day for at least a month. "

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  09/24/2009: Ariana Lozano from Sacramento, Ca writes: "Hi,

I am 28 years old, and this summer I had my first experience w/ a swollen lymph node. I was told to drink hot tea w/ ginger root and a little pepper, and to gargle w/ warm salt water. While the tea was very soothing, there was no decrease in the swelling. After a few days of little improvement, I did some research and decided to try old faithful, Apple Cider Vinegar. They swelling in my throat decreased by half w/in minutes. Since then I have been reading about ACV and its helpful effects. The taste of it does not bother me at all, I love the tanginess, so I've never diluted it in water. I just take a shot out of the bottle. My question then, your website says to sip and not chug. Why? What difference does it make if I sip on it, or take it all at once? especially if I enjoy the taste. I am very curious. Thanks! Ariana"

EC: We suggested sipping acv to keep the pH consistently alkaline. Only suggestions, nothing written in stone. Try chugging it and let us know!

I decided to try Apple Cider Vinegar after reading much about this miracle drink from earthclinic, it's no brainer to guess what happened next, my lymph node shrunk to the size that i did not even feel its existence. My ulcers healed on the 2nd days i used the ACV."

[YEA]  04/06/2009: Aarina from Seattle, WA writes: "Amazing! On Thursday evening I noticed pain on both sides of my neck, and began worrying about all the possibilities. By Saturday, I'd realized I was suffering from continually swelling lymph nodes. After reading through the info on this site, I took one shot glass of ACV every four hours throughout the day, along with lots of fresh filtered water. I'm shocked at how quickly the swelling subsided!!!"

[YEA]  07/14/2008: Donna from Dallas, TX writes: "I woke up and I could literally feel my right lymph gland swelling - within 15 minutes it got about the size of a lemon and was starting to hurt and I couldn't move my neck. Not knowing what to do I happened to see some ACV staring me in the face in my fridge and knowing it was good for anything, I took 2 Tbsp. in water. Within 5 minutes the swelling went down and by 15 minutes the pain and most of the swelling was gone. 2 days later, I am continuing to take it 3 times a day and it is much better. I suspect my body is still fighting off the infection. I was amazed."

08/01/2008: Pat from Madison, Al replies: "I am a bit confused. If it is better to have your system alkaline, wouldn'r lemon or ACV make it more acidic? I have a dog with Lymphoma. I am using castor oil on his nodes, but need something to get his nodes reduced further. I have an herbal formula for lymph imporvement, but have seen no change in him. Would appreciate any additional information on the use of lemon and ACV. Again, worried it will make his system more acidic. Thanks."

10/27/2008: Dan from Buffalo, NY replies: "Apple Cider Vinegar, while acidic, signals for your body to make ph buffers to counteract the acidity. This has an outstanding alkalizing effect on the body. Another thing i have found that does this is spirulina, a blue/green freshwater algae, which also has many other nutritious qualities and health benefits.

I just got a swollen lymph node for the first time and I'm gonna have to go get some acv and spirulina. I happen to be out of both....and im fairly confident I wouldn't be in this predicament if I had been taking both regularly. I can only hope as it is extremely uncomfortable."

Do you know of anything at all that I might be able to take the swelling down and get rid of the infection? Thank you for your time,Tracee"

[YEA]  07/11/2007: Cherie from Brockville, Ontario, canada replies: "This is to 11/15/2006: Tracee from Boise, Idaho who is inquiring about remedies to help with her swollen lymph nodes.

This of course is just my experience but wanted to share it since it was pretty profound for me and am still amazed.

Tracee you could try using the Apple Cider Vinegar for your swollen lymph nodes. I originally started to take it for my sinuses and by the next day of using it my lymph nodes were smaller by far. I have had swollen lymph nodes for as long as I can remember and have just come to be used to it so when I noticed them shrunk it was kinda weird. I cant believe that this ACV worked just from one day!! You have nothing to lose by trying it so all I can say is good luck if you decide to. Oh and as a side note my lymph nodes would swell any time I was doing some kind of detoxing. And like you they got worse when I stopped putting unhealthy things in my body mine being certain foods and alcohol. I believe that this is due to the extra toxins and things coming out at a faster rate and the lymph nodes job being one of filtering. When you detox and eat smarter it gives your body more power to do its job of riding itself of these toxins and unfortunately it works the lymph nodes extra hard. If you want to know how much of the ACV I was using it was only a table spoon for the first day then I decided to take about 3 by putting it in my water that I take to work which is about 3 or so liters. It actual quenches my thirst better and don't need to drink as much water as I used too. I think my problem was dry mouth that made me drink more and I think that was due to yeast. I'm still working on riding my body of yeast and parasites. This weekend I start the Paracleans so it should be interesting lol. Oh and another thing is that I stopped taking one of my medications I have had to take now for 4 years. This is all due to the ACV!! And I have many other things that have happened from the ACV but wont put it here since this is getting very long. God knew what he was doing when he gave us ACV.

Take care Tracee and the best of health to you!! Cher%uFFFDe in Canada."

[YEA]  01/16/2008: Skai from Jacksonville, U.S.A. replies: "My story is just like Tracee from Boise,Idaho. I have been put on many medications also.None of the worked. My doctor told me that I should just have it removed.I got it removed just the other day and I'm feeling great!"

[YEA]  12/23/2008: Justin from Seattle, WA replies: "This website and these ideas are wonderful for everyone.

ACV is really hard to drink, but, very worth it. It has been known to cure many ailments, including Acid Reflux disease.

I would add that my swollen glands do not respond well to food. The best thing, and seemingly the only thing that gets my glands to return to normal, is fasting from solid foods and drinking ACV Baking Soda etc, while the node is processing.

For some reason, sodium rich foods or anything solid just makes my lymphnode go crazy during these times... Does anyone know why that is?

But after time, it will return to normal.

Thank you for more and more input... This is very helpful!

PEACE"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR IN CLUB SODA

[YEA]  09/29/2009: Martha from Phoenix, Az writes: "I am 30 years old and recovering from cellulitis/staph infection. The lymph nodes in the groin area of the leg where the infection began have been really swollen, limiting range of motion and causing significant discomfort walking, sitting Indian style, etc. Yesterday I took 2t ACV with about 8 0z of club soda (sparkling water) two times. This morning I already notice significant improvement, I can sit Indian style and don't notice any tenderness. I am truly amazed!"

EC: From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbonated_water

"Carbonated water, also known as soda water, can be produced in the home by "charging" a refillable seltzer bottle by filling it with water and then adding carbon dioxide. Club soda may be identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small amount of table salt, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium citrate, potassium sulfate, or disodium phosphate, depending on the bottler."

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  07/26/2009: Ziggy from Mississippi, MS writes: "I've read all the recommendations for taking down the swelling of a calcified lymph node and have a question: Many have written that using castor oil as a poultice helps to shrink the lymph node -- also taking ACV. Would it be safe and would it work to MIX the ACV with the castor oil and use that as a rub?? My mother is elderly and has a large calcified lymph node on her neck -- jawline and just in front of her ear. It is very hard and nothing has helped to take it down. If anyone has any information on this method. please send your comments to this site, and I will check back. Thanks so much!"

CASTOR OIL

3 YEA
1 NAY

[YEA]  10/25/2008: l from Sandusky, Ohio writes: "My daughter was diagnosed with Lymphatic Malformation or Cystic Hygroma, (A large growth or swollen mass just under the skin in the neck/throat area), when she was born. It was alarming to say the least. It is a congenital birth defect, and it has to do with a defect in the venous system or Lymph system. The cyst are filled with Lymph fluid. It's also very unpredictable, and a cyst can swell up or go down at any time, and new cysts can appear at any time. The cysts can get very large, and cause deformities in the face and other parts of the body, and obstruct breathing. There is no known cure, except surgery and a drug that can be injected directly into the cyst called OK-432. Usually when the child gets sick or has an infection anywhere in the body, they swell up, or new ones appear. My daughter is two now. About 2 months ago, she developed a new cyst on the other side of her face/neck. I freaked out. I'm not to keen on doctors, because of what they put her through when she was born, and (No money, or a car), I'm always searching for an alternative cure.

I've had extremely good results with Castor Oil. I'm a big believer in this stuff. I buy big bottles of it at a time, it's great. I use it, whenever I have a problem. Edgar Cacey was a Christian, and always gave credit where credit was do, to God, and he felt motivated by him. There have been many, many documented reports over the decades of Castor oil really helping a lot of people for a wide spectrum of ailments. I put her on Castor oil packs about 4 times a week for two months, and the cyst went WAY down, and has stayed that way for a while now. Now, I'm not 100% sure that was what worked for her, but we seem to notice it beginning to shrink and a response from her as soon as we started her on the packs.

The packs are messy, and it's not easy to get a child to hold still for a pack on their abdominal area. So, I used an old throw away shirt, and safety pins. I safety pinned the saturated flannel section on the inside of the front of the shirt to cover her stomach, and generously massaged a large amount of the oil all over her cysts on her neck and throat. I did this regime at night, and in the morning gave her a bath or a shower. The heating pad is not really necessary, but helps, a lot. I did not do a heat source on her, because she is so young, she would never sit still for it. The first few nights, she was restless, and agitated, and was running a mild fever. Then in the morning, the fever would break. We noticed it getting smaller from than on. It really seemed to help her those packs. She seem to have a lot of energy and be in a good mood, the mornings after the packs. If and when this happens again, I'll try the packs again. Castor oil is great. Hope this helps her. Like Cacey said, Do the packs along with a prayer for healing."

[YEA]  05/06/2008: Moorea from Santa Fe, New Mexico writes: "I am so grateful for this site! Last night I woke with a swollen lymph the size of a tennis ball and was terrified. I'm 24 and have never had something like this happen before. But, did a google search and found your site and Castor Oil recommendation. It REALLY works! I placed castor oil on the area and placed a flannel rag over it and a heat pad. This morning my lymph was still slightly swollen, but after a bath of epson salts, baking soda, and apple cider vinegar as well as eating miso soup (a very alkalizing food) I feel 100% better. I had been sick with a cold for about two weeks and these remedies seemed to cure that as well. I think it is also important to note that these remedies work really well when you have a frame of mind that supports curing yourself, by re-focusing on the things that give you joy and the things that you love, can only help you be more grateful and less focused on the thoughts that created this illness to begin with. I did this for 5 days and it did seem to help soften it a bit but the most improvement I've noticed was after I massaged the swollen nodes with CASTOR OIL. After applying the castor oil, I applied a piece of cloth (should be flannel), then a plastic bag then a heating pad. I also applied did the CASTOR OIL PACKS in the stomach area. This is supposedly outlined in the Edgar Cayce's readings (he was a healing psychic). There was a significant reduction in swelling (flattening) within 2 days after I started with the castor oil. If you do an internet search on castor oil for swollen lymph nodes it will give you the detailed procedure."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  09/28/2009: Sondra from North Mankato, Minnesota writes: "Swollen Lymph Nodes

I was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma back in May 2009 after a doctor found a enlarged lymph node in my right armpit and did a biopsy. I went through 3 different types of chemotherapy treatments and did not respond to any of the treatments, however, my body became more and more toxic due to the chemotherapy drugs I was given. In the mean time my lymph nodes in my neck, armpits, and groin area continued to get larger and larger. I had read an article on Hydrogen Peroxide in a book that I had purchased and I decided to try their recommendation. After 5 days of taking 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide with distilled water I started seeing a decrease in the size of my lymph nodes. I started taking this mixture the latter part of August 2009 and have continued to take it and currently my lymph nodes are still decreasing. I am wondering now if I really do have cancer or if I had a infection to cause my lymph nodes to swell? Sondra"

09/29/2009: Tavora from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "Sondra - you should also consider supplementing your H2O2 therapy w/ the lemon (or) lime baking soda mixture. It helps to alkalize the system quickly and aids in cleaning out the nodes. Though I'm not a fan of drinking it - it does work. I have had slightly enlarged nodes for almost a year now (submandibular and around the base of neck and ear) and have been able to keep them at bay (until I get more solid answers) by either rebounding (mini-trampoline) and/or eating more raw foods. I never heard of rebounding until several months ago but it is superb for cleaning out the lymphatic system! Since the lymph system has no internal pumping mechanism like the heart - it has to be "moved" or drained out with the assistance of exercise. The up/down motion of jumping on the trampoline allows for the valves in the system to open up - which in turn allows for the fluid (or lymph) to be shaken up and "ushered" out towards the kidneys where it will be disposed of through the urine. You should consider it...I think it will be very effective in helping to cleanse, strenghthen and heal your body/immune system.....

You are in my prayers....."

05/07/2009: Tavora from Brooklyn, NY replies: "I have a submandibular lymph node that has been persistent for almost 8 months. It just under my right jaw. I suffer from inner ear dysfunction and its my right ear that's affected. I would recommend going to see a doctor to determine its not anything serious. Have you done a sonogram/ultrasound of it? Do you know how big it is. I was a science major in college and happened to take a class on immunology. When a lymph node appears to either be "shotty" or "stubborn" this is a sign of inflammation - either localized or in some cases chronic. Mine is chronic - which makes sense because this has to do with the ear problems I have. I did a sonogram some months back and its also a little less than a centimeter. My doc said there is some localized inflammation. Focus on building up/strengthening your immune system. I started taking Transfactor-X colostrum (have run out though) and this helped decrease it in size. Exercise too. This helps immensely to get the lymph and blood circulating. I've read - additionally - that rebounding exercises are excellent for breaking up debris and removing toxins from the lymph. If you're not familiar with rebounding - its simply bouncing exercises done on a mini trampoline.

Try any one of these remedies and see how they help. But don't give up! :0)"

TED'S REMEDIES READER FEEDBACK

4 YEA

[YEA]  04/02/2009: Nick from Baltimore, MD writes: "I am so thankful for these home remedies. This time last night, I was in terrible pain from a swollen lymph node in my groin area. This is the first time I ever had one in this area. I have had them under my arms, but this was a first. After taking pain medicine and getting very little relief, I tried the 1 teaspoon of sea salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. By morning, the pain had diminished tremendously. So much so, I did not take anymore pain medicine, and the swelling had gone down some. I decided to take a tablespoon of castor oil, and then 3 hours later, around 9:00am, I took 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in just a little water. What had been pain was now just discomfort. By noon I took another 2 tablespoons of ACV and put a warm compress on the area because I noticed that it was actually turning into a boil that was preparing to drain. What is so incredible about this is that the night before, there was no sign that this mass was going to drain at all! Within 10 minutes of using the warm compress, the boil began to drain and there was instant relief. Tonight I have taken another 2 tablespoons of ACV and I've drank a little more of the 1 teaspoon sea salt and baking soda. I am sure I will have a good nights rest, unlike the last 3 nights."

[YEA]  03/03/2009: Jaqueline from Lawrenceville, Georgia writes: "I'm having so many symptom due to my under-active thyroids and Multiple Sclerosis. Dry skin, hair loss, extreme fatigue, insomnia, swollen lymph node, candida infections constipation and etc... The last three symptoms before the etc are the most bothersome because of the pain and discomfort. So I came across this wonderful web site and tried Ted's remedy of 1/2 tsp of sea salt and 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water. Well, I must say, I'm am impress with this remedy. This really works as a laxative, and my candida, lymph swelling and tenderness went away. I am going to try other remedies in this web site which hopefully can help me with other symptoms and illnesses I have.

I'm definitely going to recommend this to all my family and friends."

[YEA]  09/18/2007: Damaris from Kissimmee, Florida writes: "My daughter woke in the morning with her neck swollen on one side. I took her to the dr/ to see what it was. I was told she had a lymph node infection. He prescribed antibiotics for it. I don't agree with antibiotics so I went to this website and search for the cure. I did the 1 cup of water with 1 teaspoon sea salt and 1 tspoon of baking soda. I made her drink as much as she could of that. She's 5 yr old and its difficult to make her drink anything she don't like. I also gave her a few yogurts to eat. And bathed her in a bath of water with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 cup of epsom salts and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide. I made sure to continuously pour the water over her throat area. well, I was amazed to see that it was no longer swollen that night and the next morning she was just fine like nothing ever happened. I love this website!"

[YEA]  02/22/2009: Patrick from Chicago, IL replies: "I am 42 to years old and never believed in Natural Remedies always antibiotics. Now I'm a believer. I just tried the 1 cup of water with 1 teaspoon sea salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda remedy (Dam that's nasty) for swollen glands. I am amazed how quickly it reduced the size of my swollen gland in my neck. As I type this I occasional check it and it's gone from the size of a hard kidney bean to a long piece of gum. Thank you for posting this natural remedy. I'll have to try ACV. From what I've read it cures quite a few things. My mom has it in her frig ever time I visit her and laugh and think "you old fool". Now who's the fool? Me! Just checked my gland and it's still sore but taking on a new shape. Long, flat and now vertical, but still sore to the touch. I'll post later if time allows regarding my prognosis."

02/24/2009: Robert Henry from Ten Mile, TN replies: "Your lymph system is the sewer for your cells. It has no pump like your blood system. The only natural way to keep the system flowing is to exercise. Another good way to keep it flowing is to dry brush your skin prior to your bath. Since the system flows to your bowels, brush only in that direction. The constriction of your skin to the brush causes the fluid to flow. Swollen nodes is a sign of pluggage. Google dry skin brushing for more specifics. I continue to be amazed at the simple things we can do to obtain better health. Just sorry I waited until I was in my 70's to begin to learn."

YOGA, MOVEMENT OR EXERCISE

2 YEA

[YEA]  01/28/2009: Robin from Rocky Ridge, Oh writes: "Lymph nodes are not that active by themselves so they are something that we sort of have to work on and pay attention to. A lymphatic massage is a good way to get the lymph fluid circulating, albeit a rather expensive remedy unless you have a college or school nearby that offers sessions at a reduced rate to give students hands on experience.

One way to stimulate the movement of lymph fluid at home is to do yoga. The process of bending, stretching, twisting, contracting and relaxing the muscles acts to squeeze the nodes so they can express the fluid. Another thing I have read that is beneficial to circulating the lymph fluid is using a mini trampoline or rebounder. The action of the gentle jumping causes the lymph fluid to move, in fact it stimulates us at a cellular level in a positive manner. Rebounding is suppose to be an excellent method of body detoxification while using other methods such as internal toxin cleansers, far infared saunas, candida and heavy metals therapies, etc.

One last way to help get lymph fluid moving is to do dry skin brushing before a shower/bath in a circular motion from the ends of your extremities towards your heart, or use a wet loofa sponge, sisal fiber mitt or ayate wash cloth the same way in a shower or bath. They all serve to stimulate circulation and movement of lymph fluid, remove dead skin cells and help detox the body. A stimulating cold shower may also help.

In essence, all forms of movement and exercise will stimulate the lymph glands to do their job so they do not get congested, infected or swollen. Our days of sit down jobs, machines and appliances to do most of our work for us is causing our bodies more problems than what other generations had to deal with. Our bodies were meant to move, not sit dormant. Blessings, Robin"

[YEA]  10/18/2009: Barb from Smalltown, In replies: "Just want to say how effective movement was for my horribly swollen lymph glands in my neck. I looked like I had goiters, they were so incredibly huge. I actually looked up goiters on the net to make sure that wasn't what it was, and saw how goiters are much lower. Mine were just under the jawline, but I had never seen or imagined they could puff up so much. And they just kept getting more swollen. I think it was from chemical exposure, though not sure. I wound up with a terrible kidney infection with a kidney stone 2 weeks later, so perhaps that was it??? At any rate, my daughter, who is a yoga and pilates instructor, told me to bounce on my excercise ball gently but regularly to get the lymph system moving. I had just read how it can take weeks or months to clear, so I was ready to try anything! Anyway, I began bouncing for a few minutes several times a day. My neck was so swollen I could feel it bouncing, so I took it pretty gentle at first, but by the second day the swelling had lessened. 4 days later it was gone. I'll never know for sure what caused it, but I will never be so careless as to use chemical cleaners without good ventilation again. And I now try to make regular bouncing on my ball part of each day's exercise plan."
