WARNING!

[WARNING!]  09/04/2011: Dolores from Oakland, Ca: "I have been chronically getting Bladder/UT infections on and off for the last 20 years (yes, I know. YOWZA! ) By my late 20's it was diagnosed as a condition called CYSTITIS... With speculation that at this point in development, it could be IC (interstitial cystitis). I was not born with this condition. It began when I was 17 years old and at the time was triggered by sex. I had all the symptoms: frequency of urination, pain after urinating, inflammation of bladder (swollen tummy), and at some point inability to hold urine.

In the very beginning, I went to a Western traditional doctor and was prescribed anti-biotics. From this point on the infection never seemed to entirely go away and I continued taking anti-biotics, on and off for the next 5 years... As doctors really could not explain my body's resistance... Over this 5 yr course of time (on & off) I took: Bactrim, Cipro, Macrodantin and at some point Tetracycline... Basically ladies & gents, it was a bit of a nightmare.... Again and again, the bacteria developed resistance.

Eventually, in my mid 20's, I found myself with the best medical (and temporary!! Hahaha! ) insurance coverage and began seeing a Urologist. I had many, many tests & a few Xrays done to determine if it was a physical deformity in my "plumbing". Everything came out negative. Even the Urologist seemed suprised. In the end of the conversation, his medical advice was "Dont worry, "it" (the bacteria) will burn itself out".... 10 years or so after, well.. It hasnt, my body is still recovering/restoring/regenerating from the damage done by anti-biotics... Yet, it is manageable (many lifestyle adjustments)....

I came on here today, simply to just caution those from the overuse and abuse of anti-biotics as a false sense of hope... It seems like a good idea at the time yet it is a dire "trade-off" for most patients... What may seem like healing or a cure in that moment, to just to be able to experience relief... BE MOST CAREFUL AND AWARE WITH YOUR BODY!!! If you find you are experiencing reoccuring bladder/UT infections I recommend:

alternative medicines/treatments: Chinese medicine/treatment, Holistic herbal medicine, stress management, diet and general lifestyle adjustments.

General herbal treatment/healing food diet support :

"Healing herbal soup broth"

handful herbs of horsetail, parsley, cornsilk, uva Ursi, cleavers, usnea (some herbs are easier to find than others.. try natural health food stores or co-ops etc.)

pinch of fresh Oregano

several cloves of garlic (the more the better)

4 cups of Spring/distilled water

Cook for 1/2hr (the longer you let sit the better, I find making a new pot of broth while I have some in hand.. Keeps the body flushing) strain... drink throughout day...

Diet ( this has great significance, especially while fighting off an infection):

AVOID:

#1-SUGAR (even natural fruit sugars), dairy, greasy or fried foods, spicy foods, chicken, shellfish, tomatoes, coffee, sodas, alcohol.

Healing diet:

GREENS, GREENS, GREENS!!! Fresh everything is best. REAL/WHOLE FOODS, nothing processed, no junk food (do your best, your body will thank you in the long run)... explore and get creative with your diet!!! We are what we eat!!! Whether you juice it (google juicing), or make yummy healing stews or use all the colors of the rainbow to knock out a jaw dropping salad (easy on any weird supermarket salad dressings: try lemon, olive oil, flax or sesame seeds, sea salt, black or white pepper)...

I eat mostly vegetarian (just easier on my digestive system) yet, if eating meat.. Find out where your meat/fish/poultry etc... Is coming from and what is in it. Meaning, if you can, stay away from the "factory animal farm"....

WHAT TO DO WHEN FINDING YOURSELF WITH THE BEGINNING STAGES OF A BLADDER/UT INFECTION:

flush out with:

1.Apple cider vinegar (suprise! )... Try not to overdo if using long term... the ph balance in the body is in the center of acidic and alkaline (for most, ideally, leaning more alkaline)...

-----2Tbsp. of ACV in 8oz. Of Spring/distilled water... drink throughout the day

2. Drink 1 gallon of Spring/distilled water a day is best... Yes, I did say a gallon.. The more the better... combine with dilution of unsweetened cranberry juice if you feeling too amphibious

3. Pure, unsweetened cranberry juice or cranberry pills

4.Vitamin C (at least 3, 000 a day)

5. Garlic ( raw or pills ) throughout day

6. Probiotic (acidophilus---take daily in general.... pills can be used overnight as vaginal insert for irritation/itchy, stinging etc as well as diluted tea tree oil) ...

7. Drink Herbal Soup Broth throughout day... (very soothing.... ) The healing herbal soup broth recipe can be "tweeked" here and there for your taste buds, more veggies can be added in for more of a healthy meal.

Well, the best of health to everyone. Stay positive, count your blessings and dont forget to breath deeply... Expand that ribcage and release!!!"

09/04/2011: Frankie from Madison, Al, Usa replies: "I used to have a recurring bladder problem, very painful. I tend to avoid doctors, so I once tried treating myself with cranberry juice and it hurt like H__.

Four years ago, I finally realized that acidity was causing the problem to begin with and went on an alkaline diet for two months. I have had no recurrence, and I no longer have to follow an alkaline diet [I am basically 'paleo' except for some occasional raw milk].

(for the information of those who prefer whole food healing rather than supplements, even natural ones.)"

[YEA]  05/16/2011: Kopka79 from Lapeer, Michigan, Usa: "I had a TERRIBLE bladder infection that, of course, reared its ugly head in the middle of the night while my doctor was closed. So I went searching online for help. I came across your site & it was filled with amazing information! I knew only of cranberry juice for UTI's. There were so many suggestions that I wasnt sure which to try... So I tried them all! I created a cocktail out of cranberry juice, baking soda, vitamin C, sea salt and excedrin. I felt relief within 15 minutes and the infection was gone after only 3 days... With no antibiotics. I will be visiting your site often s I have 3 children who are constantly picking up bugs from school & such. Thank you so much for creating this life, time, money and sanity saving site!! Sincerely, Chris"

[YEA]  11/13/2008: Victoria from Akron, OH replies: "I use to get bladder infections ALL the time years ago but stopped then for years and just woke up with one this morning! I was shocked! However, since this has been my favorite site for any ailments I quickly got on to look up what to do for a bladder infection even though I knew ACV would be one to use.

But one thing I saw was to eat lots of celery and cucumbers for the bladder infection. So this morning I drank a huge glass of water with ACV - Another plain glass of water, ate celery and cucs and drank lemon water AND I took marshmallow root which is suppose to be good for a bladder infection too. Then the rest of the day I drank lemon water and I am fine as I sit here and type this out! YAY!

As always - thank you Earth CLinic readers with your advice!"

[YEA]  09/06/2007: Nadine from Philadelphia, USA: "I am a regular reader of earth clinic and am very grateful for all the information. I am thankful that I am able to contribute to this forum. I recently discovered Oil of Oregano (100% vegetarian). My internet search revealed that Oil of oregano was used to sterilize surgical utensils back in the 1950's and has been found to be useful in fighting infections that are resistant to penicillin. It is also said to be useful in treating sinus infections, bladder infections, candida and lung infections."

EC: Most health food stores will carry Wild Oregano Oil in capsule form. Whole Foods has a few great brands!

11/25/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, USA replies: "You can also find Oil of Wild oregano at The Vitamin Shoppe which is a nationwide chain and cheaper than Whole Foods. They are a really great store for many resources and less expensive. Their own brands are often on sale and very high quality. I know the woman who is the manager at ours is extremely knowledgeable as well. Also, you want the oil to be strong. I just put a dropper in, swallow it down and then follow it with a glass of water. Hope this helps. Lisa"

[YEA]  01/10/2007: Julianna from Columbus, OH: "I knew about taking cranberry juice for UTIs as I've had one or two in the past which is why I try to take the AZO cranberry pills & yeast pills daily (along with eating yogurt daily). I was surprised when I got this latest UTI a few days ago. Since I no longer have health insurance, I was freaked & I knew that the OTC urinary pain medicine was just a temp fix (which I gladly used b/c my UTIs come with PAIN!) Sure enough the OTC pills and the extra AZO cran pills began to have no effect yesterday even though I was constantly poppin em. I read through the site about oil of oregano (which I never heard of), vitamin C & others & decided to load up. I got the sea salt, oil of oregano, unsweetened cran juice, etc. I put 2 Tblsps of Sea Salt in a cup of H2O and tried to drink it (GAWD!) Well I drank maybe a little less than half the cup.... maybe. Maybe I put in too much salt, but DAMN! I took 1000mgs of Vitamin C. I put a drop of oil of oregano under my tongue (not good) & put another drop in a cup of H2O (this I could somewhat tolerate). I also sipped on a cup of the unsweetened cran juice (ick!). Anyway about an hour later it became less painful to pee & today I have no pain when I PEEEE & NO frequency. I have no idea which remedy did it & how long I need to keep taking these concoctions. I also took some probiotic pill the woman at the whole foods store put in my basket (she claimed the pill has millions of the good bacteria I need & way more than yogurt). Anyway I will be taking this pill in the AM & PM. I think the little bit of sea salt H2O I took had an effect although I won't be doing that again unless absolutely necessary & I believe the oil of oregano did something too. I will continue the oil of oregano, the vitamin C &, the probiotic pill for 6 more days & then maybe just continue the probiotic pill in place of the AZO cran & yeast pills I used to take. I know the feedback on this site really helped me. It seems these UTIs are such a Catch-22. They say that holding your pee in (or resisting the urge) can possibly bring them on but when I know its gonna be painful to go then I'd rather hold it than feel that pain. Maybe its just me.... Well, anyway hope this helps someone."

[YEA]  12/08/2006: Alexa from GA: "An Alkaline diet and Oil of oregano will cure Chronic sinusitis and urinary tract infection. I would recommend that you consult your doctor for diagnosis of urinary tract infection in order to rule out more serious conditions and then take oil of oregano with concentrated cranberry juice. The best way to take oil of oregano is under the tongue but if you don't like the taste you can take capsules. You will feel it working. Oil of oregano is an antifungal, antiviral and antibiotic which makes it very effective against sinusitis etc."

OLIVE LEAF

YEA

[YEA]  06/09/2007: Kirtti from Solana Beach, CA: "I have had frequent chronic UTI's all of my life, and have occasionally tried to cure them naturally, without any luck, just ending up sicker and needing antibiotics. Usually, if I didn't get drugs in the first few days, it moved right into the kidneys. I've tried herbs, accupuncture, energy healing, and nutrition. This time, I was determined, and let it go for a week, trying several things. I tried a whole jar of cranberry juice plus pills every day, and that seemed to help (the urine smelled bad for about a day, but then the smell left. However, about that time, the infection moved up to the kidneys, and the condition got worse over a week's time. Finally, by Friday, I was desperate, as I'd have to get through the whole weekend before I could give up and get to a doctor....and I was having trouble even walking, from the pain. Then, I remembered that I had heard Olive Leaf extract could help. I happened to have some on hand for something else, and took a couple. I googled it and found that you can take up to 16 of the 500 mg pills per day, so I took 4, then 4 more a few hours later. When I got up from my nap, I felt a lot better. I was still in a lot of pain, but less, and somehow, my energy felt stronger, like I was heading out of the woods. I continued to take it overnight, and this morning, I woke up about 70% better! Since I was so ill, I'm still in pain, but not enough to need pain killers.

Some people experience die-off symptoms with Olive Leaf, and it can be used as a prophylactic, which would allow for gradual cleansing, in case you needed to use it in high doses for an infection. However, I didn't experience any of that, as I've done a lot of cleansing before. Still, if I were going to, I'd do it anyway, as it really kicked the infection.

I also tried Ted's salt remedy, but it was at about 10 pm, after the Olive Leaf was obviously working, so I can't be sure what its effect was. However, it didn't make me feel ill, as some here have reported.

As an aside, I recently went to see a Korean doctor, who described about three sets of symptoms I've been having as being connected to an original problem of weak chi in the kidneys and spleen. He gave a very reasonable explanation of how the seemingly unconnected symptoms are all part of a developing problem based on the weakness in the two organs. After a month on his custom tincture, I experienced a reversal in the most recent symptom (period coming a week earlier each month for a few months, with a lot of spotting). So, I believe that if I continue with that treatment, eventually, the internal weakness which leads to the chronic symptoms will be eradicated.

One last thing - I've just read that a high percentage of women with chronic UTI's have a lack of immunoglobulins, which you can supplement with collostrum, so I'll try that, too."

OLIVE LEAF, TURMERIC

[YEA]  02/02/2010: London from Sandusky, Ohio: "OK, guys, I'm sure by now, it's well known, (since I've tried every cure on this website known to man) My struggles with Chronic Bladder infections on here.

Recently, I broke down and went to the hospital to get antibiotics. They didn't work, it was alarming truly, this is modern medicine. After, about, THREE trips back to the hospital, and THREE rounds of antibiotics, and about 4 months of struggling with my latest bladder infection, I finally found a natural cure, that I think is very effective.

I was frustrated, nothing was working. I tried the ACV, I tried sea salt, baking soda, alka seltzer, EVERYTHING. Coconut Milk, (which tastes really gross)

My friends, a combination of Olive leaf extract, and turmeric herb cured my stubborn bladder infection.

You have to take about 2 dropperfuls of olive leaf extract (alcohol free) dissolved in a cup of water about three times a day, along with 2 caps of turmeric herb, three to four times a day.

This is intensive treatment, but that's what it took for me.

I cap my own turmeric by the way, in veg. caps 00"

[YEA]  09/13/2011: Jc From New Bedford Ma from New Bedford, Ma Usa: "I suffered from boils since I was abouy 13yrs. Over the years the outbreaks have gotten worse. I also suffer with uti's, and while I was trying to find a natural cure for the uti I started taking this natural cranberry sup. called Cystex it is a liquid and 1 tablespoon = 8 glasses of cranberry juice. I took 1tbls. every AM. Not only did it help with my uti's it helped much better for boils. Every time I stopped the Cystex for a couple of weeks or so the boils would come back. I stopped and started 5or 6 times over the past 2yrs. and every time the boils would come back, till finally I said to myself, I need to stay on the Cystex because I'm sick and tired of boils. It is great tasting, and only cost 10.00 for 1 bottle that lasts for about a month. Sometimes it is on sale for 7.99 ea. To me it's worth the 10.00 to be boil free. It's natural and no side effects. Give it a try I'm sure you will see a difference after taking it for a few weeks. Good luck to you, hope it works for you like it does for me."

[YEA]  12/17/2009: Terrisa from Lubbock, Tx: "Urinary Tract Infections

Between the age of 7 and 10, my daughter had multiple urinary tract infections. Our pediatrician even had us have the bladder and kidney ultrasound done! After her last UTI, she began having symptoms around 5 PM--after doctor's hours and I didn't want her to have to sit in an ER for hours suffering, so I went and got her that pyramidine that turns the urine orange, but makes the symptoms tolerable, when I found a new product that has the following ingredients (since we can't mention the brand name here): benzoic acid, methenamine, sodium salicylate. I gave her just 2 tablets and she started feeling better within 30 minutes, and urinated with a normal volume within an hour. The next morning when I took her to her pediatrician, they did an in office lab test and the test was negative for bacteria. Since then, I've felt the symptoms coming on myself, and so I've taken 2 tablets and it's taken care of the infection. I asked my daughter's pediatrician how it could work and she looked at the ingredients and said she didn't see how it works just by looking at the ingredients--but, it does and I'm very thankful--and, it didn't make me get the yeast infection that I would get from taking antibiotics. Hope this helps, and thank you for this website--had a horrible toothache at 4:30 this AM and read about using cloves powder so I packed my tooth and it worked miraculously! The two ibuprofen didn't work, but the cloves worked within 2 minutes. I love this website and have it in my favorites. Thank you, Terrisa"

PILATES AND CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS

[YEA]  10/17/2009: Jo from London, Uk: "recurrent bladder infections and irritable inflammed bladder beaten!

I struggled for 2 years to get this under control with antibiotics and natural remedies but I have finally been cured with pilates and chiropractic treatment. Also, you need to get the right antibiotics if you are willing to take them again but i wouldn't touch them unless you are willing to work your pelvic floors muscles and the easiest way is pilates. Your bladder may also be displaced and the nerves from your spine to your bladder may be trapped in some way. its worth getting checked. I was shocked to find i have scoliosis which explains my back ache and corrective treatment and pilates is giving me my life back from recurrent bladder infections. If you do not wish to take antibiotics again then you can use golden seal tincture. you can make it into a warm douche (let any alcohol evaporate first) and hold it inside for 15 mins, do this until you feel the infection is gone but do not use to long periods of time. I actually take oregano oil every night before bed 8 drops mixed with a tablespoon of codliver oil which is also good for inflammation.

if you do nothing else then do pilates and work those pelvic floor muscles....after only 3 1hr sessions 1 x per week my bladder feels like it should! I'm 31 by the way so I can't imagine how bad this could have got if I didn't treat it. please email me if you would like any more info as i know how desperate you can feel when these infections won't go away! best wishes"

REMEDIES NEEDED

I also started getting a blue tinge on my moons of my fingers after the surgery have been to several doctors not one can seem to get to the problem except I have this infection. I should also tell you I have a plate in my neck that they found out I'm allergic to, they say it has to come out, I have been to cardiology, GYN, infectious Docs, one Doc said I might have too much metal, but whatever the problem is I can't get this infection gone. My oxygen level was 99% so they said that didn't seem to be the problem. I'm all but done with these doctors except to get this metal out of my body. As I have severe swelling around my plate. I'm telling you this so you have a better understanding of things. All my blood work looks good except my WBC. They did a major blood look that took 15 tubes. All I hear is psuedomonas. She found out that gluten irritates the lining of her daughters bladder which then causes infection symptoms. http://www.celiac.com/articles/21636/1/Gluten-Sensitivity-and-Bladder-Disease/Page1.html Even if you get tested for a sensitivity through a regular doctor and it is negative it is still possible as the test's they use are not always accurate. I would try it. It really can't hurt but might make you feel better. I hope the metal plate issue is resolved as well. It sounds very painful. I wish you good health."
05/14/2012: Tina from Houston, Usa replies: "Try these suggestion. I am not a doctor, but went through a bout of ongoing bladder infections which finally got resolved. Below is everything I did...

1) Probiotic foods including suaerkrauet, kimchi, kombucha, kefir several times daily.

2) ACV Raw with mother 2 tablespoon in warm water 5-6 times daily.

3) Manuka honey 1 tablespoon 3-4 times daily.

4) Himalayan sea salt 2 tablespoon in 1/2 cup water. Mix and swallow. You may feel nauseus as you do this, don't smell, just gulp and swallow. I did this twice daily. If you have high blood pressure you may want to avoid vast amounts of sodium FYI.

5) Oil of oregano good quality supplements.

6) Olive leaf extract good quality supplements.

7) Renew life company in Canada makes a probiotic specific to these needs, please google, call them and they will guide you.

8) Cranberry sauce several times daily.

If this doesnt shift things please follow up with chiropracter or acupuncturist. Constant bladder infections do lead to cancer so don' take this lightly.

If you are open to energy healing, the most proficient healing protocol in my opinion and experience is 'pranic healing'. Google it, you can find folks who can do this on you long distance and it has helped me tremendously.

05/15/2012: Shaniqua from Detroit, Mi replies: "Hello, I read your comment of chronic bladder infection and had to reply. Recently I had a kidney infection after chronic other infections. The weather here in Michigan is damp and moist and full of a lot of mold and fungus leading to health issues for many. I was cured in 2 days using Standard Process albaplex, arginex, and their cranberry complex. I took 2 of albaplex and 2 arginex and 1 cranberry complex every few hours and got relief within 3 dosages. Arginex is made of buckwheat And beet product and helps detox the kidneys and flush out the bladder when they are overloaded. Cranberry helps flush out the bacteria but you should not drink the juice unless it's pure and not loaded with sugar to feed infections. It is probable that diabetes plays a role in your chronic bladder infection as uncontrolled blood sugar feeds infection as well As a number of other issues but diabetes is very common. Good luck."

11/24/2011: Kimberley from Uk, London: "Wondering if anyone can help me! As no doctors can!

It dates back to when I was little, I began having discomforts with certain citrus fruits and anything too processed. I would get a bit of discomfort down below. Then I started getting my period 2x a month, my mother took me to a doctor and they put me on a birth controll pill that evened this out for me. By this age I was slightly anemic so I was taking iron supplements as well as eating all the right things. I soon came off the pill as I was a conscious teenager and I felt I was putting on weight. Stuff seemed to settle down but I still had to stay away from the certain fruits and foods.

Now I am going on to be 20 in a few days and about 10 months a go a lot of things started flaring up. It started with lower abdominal pain and bloating. I started going out with my partner 10 months ago, he is completly STi free and has had no problems down in his department.

Anyway as I go on...

Then I got a series of what the doctors called 'urine infections' although I always new this was not the case. The anti-biotics would seem to help me for 2-3 days and then the pain would come back. My urine had no 'fishy odour' it didn't sting and the only pain I could describe it as was a 'contraction'.

I was now getting these 'infections' every 2 weeks. It was now starting to affect my studies, I was lying down on the floor gulping down 1 litre bottles of water trying to flush everything out my system. the only thing that would relieve me would be squatting or very hot water baths. I was also feeling feverish and extreme tiredness as well as back pain.

The pain went on and on for months until one day I woke up at 5 am and I had to make myself go to A n E. They did a urine test detected a very week UTI and gave me MORE antibiotics. I saw a doctor and he was concerned which triggered me into thinking something else could be the matter here.

I have been on every anti-biotic known to man literally. The doctor then said I needed to be STI tested-which I knew was again not the case as I have always been cautious with this area. I got tested for the last time and everything was NEGATIVE, no STI's no YEAST infections, NOTHING. and as I said my partner is clean and been tested recently again too.

The thing is.. Before I have sex I am okay although bloating is an everyday thing for me, but after sex I get a 'uti'. example: I went to the doctor and 3 days after having sex once in between I end up in AGONY and had to go to A n E coming back with antibiotics and a UTI.

I have been recently having my period 2x a month again and I am on the cerazette pill, which I am now coming off as I am getting rashes, breast pain and sickness. I have seen 3 gyne's and nothing is abnormal. Saw a urineologist a week ago did a scan over organs etc, nothing abnormal.

I have doing everything, from holistic things to diet to pills. I have tried a wheat free and gluten diet which didn't make too much of a difference. I have like I said been on so many antibiotics it's a joke. I got told that my mother's spiritual friend picked up on a fault in my back as well as my knee.

I just need some help ANYTHING! From foods to help soothe or something I can go buy until someone will take me seriously and stop pumping pills into my body.... I can't cope with my uni work load I can't work, I can barely go a week without being in agony. I drink camomile tea, I stay away from junk and my diet is pretty good for a 19 year old student.

thank you, kimberleydavies1(at)hotmail.com"

Please google lacto-fermented foods, and start incorporating these at all meals. Very easy to make and store, and very essential to good UTI health.

Include raw milk, raw yoghurt and raw cheeses into your diet if you are ok with dairy. Include kombucha and kefir (water, milk or coconut) into your diet daily. Include Apple Cider Vinegar 2-3 daily. Spirulina and Chorella are essential to good gut balance and use these daily too.

Within 2-3 months you should see relief, but do continue the lacto-fermented foods ongoing.

Also consider going to a chiropracter for a reset, and acupuncture in addition to consuming the above.

I hope this helps, T"

11/25/2011: Craig from Lubbock, Texas replies: "D-Mannose is a sugar that is missing one carbon molecule. It entraps the bad bacteria that is causing the UTI (urinary tract infection), preventing the bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract wall & you expell the bacteria out in your urine. My opinion it is best to use the powder form of D-Mannose instead of capsules. To treat UTI, take one teaspoon three times a day. For prevention, one teaspoon per day. Based on my personal experiences with friends & family it has been 100% effective... based on my web research around 90% effective."

Since then, (June 2011) I have not had another infection and in 2010 I had several about one each month.

08/19/2011: Roxane from Manchester, Uk: "Hi, I have suffered from reccuring bladder infections for the past 9 years. They usually come out of nowhere and fast: pain in the lower stomach, need to urinate, hurts when I do, especially the last drops, and immediate feeling/pain to urinate again 2 seconds later.

I have gone through many courses of antibiotics treatments for them. I have even had 5 cystoscopies and urethral dilatations to supposedly solve the issue for good. My urologist keeps telling me that I'm part of this very unlucky part of the female population that will need this procedure every so often in my life.

But now I'm tired of it all. I have impeccable hygiene and do all the things you are supposed to do to ensure maximum cleanliness. I have also got a fairly healthy diet, making sure that I eat plenty of fiber to keep my diet in balance and have really reduced my carbs and dairy intake. I try not to over indulge too often but still want to live a little, I am only 30 years old after all!

I am really serious about finding a natural cure/remedy/help for this now but I am finding it really difficult because usually only antibiotics would help clear it off. I just dont want to have to become dependant to them or do any damage long term to my health.

I've tried cranberry juice, Uva Ursi, doesn't work for me. I've now found out about D-mannose which I started taking when my current infection started (7 days ago now) and it seemed to ease the pain a bit. The infection was still there but the urge to urinate wasn't as frequent. I was able to get on with it (and keep going to work) more easily. But 3 days later, it was still there so I ordered some wild oregano oil and a new supplement/natural antibiotic called Uribiotic (despite the hefty price! ) which I have been taking for 3 days now.

My routine today - still suffering a bit though - is: wake up, take D-mannose probiotics, breakfast take 1st Uribiotic, lunch with probiotics and take 2nd uribiotic, get home from work take another D-mannose with probiotics, dinner take uribiotics. I have also tried rubbing the wild oregano oil on my lower stomch when I was in pain one night.

I do feel better but it's not fully cleared yet and I am not sure what's done the trick. Could anyone advise if they've had the same symptoms and tried the above?

I'm just tired of feeling like this and not being able to lead a "normal" life. I wish there was something I could do to try help and prevent it or at least get rid of it fast and quick!

Thanks for reading my loooong statement. Hope it will help someone and that it will help me!"

Pure cranberry juice worked for me when all the antibiotics failed to be of any help. I was prescribed this treatment by a urologist: 1 cup of pure cranberry juice taken 3 times a day on an empty stomach. Once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once at night before I went to bed. That stuff sold in grocery stores will not work. It has very little cranberry juice in it and it also contains a lot of sugar. It worked for me with a chronic urinary tract infection when nothing else did. I wished to make sure you took that treatment as was prescribed to me before writing it off as a failed treatment. I was amazed by the results of this time honored treatment....Oscar"
08/19/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt replies: "I've only had two bladder infections my whole life and believe me that was about 3 to many for me. I do however have a friend who's 7 year old has gone through this very same thing all her life. She was told that she would be on antibiotics for the rest of her life basically. They wanted her to take a low dose daily. When my friend told me that I freaked. Not only is that terrible for her but for the entire population as bacteria is already fighting back by becoming immune to antibiotics. I told my friend to take her daughter to a naturopath who has pretty much solved the problem for about 10 months now. She has not had an infection and it was every three weeks that she would get one before. I know they took her off of gluten and dairy after her allergy tests were possitive for sensitivities to them. She also was put on a suppliment called kali mar. I've seen it in health food stores.

I would definately start drinking apple cider vinegar to keep your pH more alkaline. That is what is causing my friends little ones bladder issues is the low pH. She has had a more alkaline pH ever since she stopped the gluten and dairy. Good health to you. I hope you feel better soon:("

08/19/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "I'm sure all the strange things in modern food has a lot to do with the niggling and dangerous illnesses around these days, the body hasn't a clue what these things are and does its best to regain good health in spite of them. Even if it has to go into an inflamatory response, If anyone has the time to check out the imiediate health benifits of eating raw unprocessed food, it should act as a flag that something very basic is missing in the modern diet..

To my thinking the missing link is MSM, it is neccesary for cell health.. The moment you cook food it evaporates up into the stratosphere. And returns in the little known sulphur cycle. The plants hold it in their roots and then we cook the plant and blow it off again in the atmosphere without getting any. Its lost in all processed food. But this vital super antioxident is needed to stop the allergies damaging us, it mops the problems up before the cell damage occurs. So try some. Rats with 3% in their water lived 50% longer than the control group.. And those inoculated with human breast cancer cells fought the disease off for a time which in human years was calculated to be 11. Since we are all made of the same stuff its well worth it."

08/19/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "Remember basic hygine? firstly. Always wipe the rear end after number twos, from front to back. A lot of females do it the wrong way because of the ease of their anatomony. Its not a nice subject and if not broached early, habit if done the wrong way is a hard one to break. Because the female Urethra is short its not a long way for a bug to get up into the bladder. A grapefruit a day should clear the condition over time.. and is good for weight loss as it takes more energy to digest one than it gives."

My mother bought me a cranberry supplement that did more for me in two weeks than the doctors did the whole time. I did however had to make lifestyle changes to completely heal which meant little to no alcohol/ sugars which feeds the bacteria, take probiotics and other herbs like uva ursi, and incorporate yoga into my exercise routine. It took about two years to make a full recovery but am convinced without taking this route I would have never recovered and I would have suffered greatly waiting for conventional medicine to work. My doctor prescribed me an antibiotic and I took and this antibiotic relieved my symptoms temporarily. I got infection again and I had to pee frequently especially at night. I searched in internet for natural home remedy and found that ACV and fennel seed could help me. I took two tbs mixed in one glass of water. Just after two or three hours I felt much better but after taking ACV I drank one liter water because less intake of water makes the infection worse. Moreover I ate one to two ts fennel seed for one week. This also helped me a lot, the urge to urinate frequently has been finished totally now I get satisfaction just in trip to bath. But I daily drink one to two litre water. I dont take ACV and fennel seed regularly but ocassionaly. Hope this helps you.Thanks.

My mother (she is 74) is currently hospitalised after suffering a stroke and a heart attack about a month ago. Thankfully, she seems to slowly be making progress. However, a couple of weeks ago she suffered a big setback when she got a urine infection. During the course of treatment she received for the infection it was noted that when she used the toilet her bladder was not emptying properly and she was retaining a lot of urine in her bladder. Does anybody know of any natural remedies that might assist her with this problem. She is taking Warfarin so cannot take things like Cranberry juice. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you."

09/14/2010: Lee from Wollongong, Nsw Australia: "Hi

I am looking at taking Apple Cider Vinegar & also have recently purchased some oregano oil. I keep getting recurring urinary tract infections & vaginal thrush & I am sick of using antibotics & creams, its just a vicious circle. I am also type 2 diabetic & have that under control. I have read on some sites on the web that you shouldnt take the oregano oil if you take 3 or more prescription drugs. I take Lipitor for cholestrol, Metformin & Zoloft. Is it safe to take the recommended dose as maintenance if I am on these medications?? If not, is there any other supplements that you can recommend for me to take to keep me from getting these annoying ailments as its so frustrating & now I'm turning towards natural remedies for relief. Your advice would be very much appreciated."

09/15/2010: Jay from Toronto, Ont, Canada replies: "To Lee from Wollongong, Nsw Australia. You might want to try olive leaf extract."
09/15/2010: Elizabeth from Nashville, Tn replies: "It sounds like you may have systemic candida, which can make your life miserable. You need to treat it from the inside out. I would suggest making your own oregano oil capsules and taking them internally and inserting them vaginally. It is a very powerful antifungal and I get almost instant relief. Be cautious, however, since oregano oil is very potent and may sting.

I would:
1) Vaginally- Buy empty capsules, fill with carrier oil such as jojoba, coconut or vitamin E and add ONE to TWO Drops of 100% pure oregano oil from the bottle. Like I said, very strong stuff. You will feel some burning but that goes away within minutes. I usually do this at night. I repeat doses up to 3 days after symptoms cease. You may have to adjust your own doses to suit you.

2) Orally- Fill empty capsule 1/3 to 1/2 full of oregano oil and take with FULL glass of water. This will help with the yeast in your intestines and bladder and bladder infections. I would recommend taking this at night and a GOOD PROBIOTIC (at least 15 billion bacteria, I use 50 billion) in the morning (to replace good bacteria that oregano oil may kill off). I would keep this up indefinitely or until major improvement is seen.

Now, for bladder infections I HIGHLY recommend Uva Ursi capsules, which you can buy at any health food store. This herb is specifically used for bladder infections, has anti-fungal properties and is a natual diuretic. I love this stuff!! I haven't had a bladder infection for almost a year since I've been taking it *knock on wood*. I also ingest Coconut Oil on my toast or in my coffee every single morning. This helps with your overall immune system and is an antifungal also. And yummy to boot! Some people may be wary of boric acid for vaginal yeast and bv but I can swear by it. It has helped me tremendously, although I try not to use it unless I have to. You just have to do your own research and see what your instinct tells you. Sorry for the long post, but after alot of trial and error this is what works for me. Good Luck and God Bless!"

I tried the ACV with water and also the grapefruit seed extract for my UTI. It helped lot. I did that for 5 days since the symptoms were gone. But a week later, the UTI came back."

SEA SALT

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

WARNING!

[YEA]  11/27/2011: Kendra from Richland, Wa: "Hi Ted,

Just wanted to thank you for your site again. I forgot to vote "Yes" for the sea salt remedy for UTIs. Last January, my family was moving and everyone but me was on antibiotics for one ailment or another. I don't like to take antibiotics because I tend to get candida flare ups, so I started drinking pure, sugar-free cranberry juice like I normally do to make a UTI go away. Plus, I take one cranberry pill, probiotics, and pre-biotics on a daily basis at night.

Well, surprisingly the cranberry juice did not do the trick this time, so I found your site and read about the sea salt remedy. I think I took 1 tsp in one glass of warm water before bedtime. The next morning, things felt 85% better but not 100%, so I repeated the process the next night. Voila! It was gone and I didn't have to go get antibiotics. Now I throw a little bit (maybe 1/8 tsp) of sea salt into my water every night before I go to bed as a preventative measure. I don't use salt on my food, and I only use sea salt for cooking. I haven't had a UTI since even though there have been times (holidays, birthday parties) when I've eaten a lot of sugar. However, as I mentioned previously, I take acidophilus, a candida-eating probiotic, prebiotics, and cranberry pills every night along with my other natural supplements. I hope this info helps everyone! Oh, btw, I am a 40 year old female in good health. Thanks again.

Kendra"

[YEA]  04/12/2011: Octavia from Knoxville, Ga.: "Thank you, thank you, thank you Ted!! I have been suffering for a week and a half with a TERRIBLE bladder infection. I have tried every remedy in the book, not wanting to resort to antibiotics. I tried D - Mannose, Uva Ursi, Baking Soda, ACV - NOTHING would touch this! As a last resort yesterday, I decided to try the Sea Salt Remedy. I did as Ted instructed and took 1 tsp. of sea salt disolved in a glass of water, then I purchased some unsweetened cranberry concentrate (100% juice) from the health food store. I drank about 3 or 4 glasses during the day, of the juice mixed with water, according to the directions on the bottle, and by yesterday evening everything was SO much better. I woke up last night and went to the restroom and for the first time in nearly two weeks - NO PAIN! I have just drank water since last night before bedtime, and each time I have gone to the restroom STILL NO PAIN. Everything feels pretty much normal now. No bacterial odor in the urine, no burning upon urination, no painful bladder cramps or urgency - NOTHING! I really believe that this infection is GONE! Ted you are a lifesaver. Thank you for this WONDERFUL REMEDY!!"

[YEA]  11/12/2010: Kd from Lexington, Ky: "I had my first bladder infection in years and it was miserable! There was no way I would go to a doctor or take antibiotics so as usual whenever I have a health issue my first stop is Earth clinic! I knew some of the things to try, like the ever reliable ACV and D-mannose, but also learned about Uva Ursi. I faithfully took all these and they did provide a lot of relief from the symptoms but nothing was completely curing it. As the week dragged on I thought there must be something wrong with me since I wasn't able to get it to stop and so many had written in that ACV cured them in just a few days.

So I decided to give Ted's remedy of drinking sea salt in water - Thank you Ted! After just one glass it was cured and I waiting several weeks to write this just to make sure it was gone. While all the other remedies did help and I would definitely recommend them for relief, the sea salt water ultimately was the cure. If you're reading this you are probably feeling completely miserable so give it a try, it can't hurt! "

[YEA]  05/05/2008: Anonymous from Spokane, Washington: "A while ago I had a bladder or urinary tract infection. (I am unsure because I didn't go to a doctor.) There wasn't much pain except for when I was done urinating. It seemed like my body was trying to push more out than it had. During this time I always had the strong urge that I needed to urinate. When I'd go it be a very small amount of urine. This had went on for a little more than a week when I then noticed blood when I wiped. Knowing that that was a very bad sign it was either a trip to the doctors or search the internet. I came across the remedy of drinking Sea Salt. That night I drank a teaspoon of Sea Salt in water. About an hour after doing so it felt as if my body was trying to cleanse itself. It gave me a loose stool and urinating felt the same. I decided to wait a couple of days before attempting either more sea salt or if it had gotten worse to go to the doctor. A couple days later I was fine. No more discomfort or blood in my urine. A teaspoon of Sea Salt in warm water did help a lot. I would recommend trying it."

By the evening I was 75% better. Next morning I am about 85% better. The doctor is open on tuesday so we will see if I continue to get better. No coffee or chocolate or junk food. I always have to go on antibodics so this is cool."
