[YEA] 02/22/2007: CC from Ypsilanti, MI writes: "cranberry juice, peeing after sex and gatorade helped my reoccuring bladder infections. I drink 100% cranberry juice as soon as I feel one coming on and I also drink gatorade to help replenish my body during the infection. To prevent a bladder infection, I always pee before and after sex. Also, stay away from sugar during the infection."

[YEA] 02/10/2007: Tina from Long Island, NY writes: "In the past couple years I have suffered through lots of uti infections. I was going back and fourth to the gyno and everytime the gyno gave me antibotics which would work but then my uti returns with in weeks to months again. The doctors couldnt figure out why I kept getting them. I decided on my own to remedy. I take cranberry pills everyday. Also everytime after I have intercouse I pee and make sure I clean myself and luckily I have not had a UTI in almost six months I am so happy. I think antibotics do not solve the problem I think they make the antibotics make them worse. I belive in natural healing not drugs!"

D-MANNOSE

01/23/2011: KF from Los Angeles, California, Us writes: "I would like to add an item to your ailment section. I know a lot of women are like me and have suffered from Uninary Tract Infections (UTI). After about 5 years of taking anitbiotics every few months because of a problem and having doctors tell me to drink more water and cranberry juice with little success, I finally discovered D-mannose. This is the part of cranberry that keeps the bacteria from sticking to the bladder. I take 1000mg (2 capsules) every 4-6 hours if I notice my urine get cloudy and start to feel discomfort. I do this for three days, with large amounts of fluids (water and juice) and then I can take a maintaince dose of 2 each day. As far as I can tell, your body flushes what it doesn't need and it won't upset your stomach like the acid in the cranberry juice.
As you know, UTIs can happen from a variety of exposure and often from sexual activity. Keeping water intake high keeps the system flushed. Also using the restroom after activies helps flush the urinary tract immediately.
I am surprised you don't have this ailment in your list. It is the one thing I've taken many many antibotics for (stronger and stronger) over the five years before discovering d-mannose as my natural remedy.
I had also looked on the internet many, many times trying to find an alternative to all these Rx solutions. I think many women could benefit from you adding this one to your list.
Thanks!
KF"

EC: Thanks for mentioning it. It (UTI) was on the ailments page at one point and got overwritten by one of our web designers!

01/23/2011: Lisa from Pleasant Prairie, Wi, Us writes: "Will taking D-mannose when I do NOT have a bladder infection cause symptoms similar to actually having an infection? One month ago, before I had heard of mannose, I had a bladder infection diagnosed via urinalysis/lab results. I tried treating myself with cranberry, vitamin C, etc... But the pain got too intense and I resorted to antibiotics. After I finished the antibiotics (and lots of probiotics) I continued to take cranberry, then discovered mannose which I began to alternate with the cranberry for maintenance. One week later I started having those old feelings again!
I began the mannose as directed, 2-3 pills 3 times a day for about 4 days. In the meantime, I had a urinalysis that revealed no infection. I still had the heavy, full feeling in the bladder area, worsening as the bladder fills. I have stopped the mannose and the symptoms are lessening leading me to wonder if the mannose caused the symptoms (while no e coli present?). Thanks for reading. Go Packers :)"
Replies01/26/2011: Lynn from Raleigh, Nc replies: "I have had 7 UTI's in the 2 years, which I attribute to too much sex with younger boyfriend. I found out about D-Mannose from a friend last last year. I don't take drugs so I was more than happy to give it a try.
The moment I know I have a UTI, I take 1 teaspoon of the powder and drink 4 -25 oz bottles of water for 2-3 hours... I just keep drinking water and urinating it out. I do this from the early morning until 5 pm. Drinking the water each time I take a teaspoon. Lots and lots of water. It is gone by 8 pm. As a maintenance, I take 1 teaspoon once a week followed by 50 oz of water."
02/03/2012: Kloon from Toronto, Ontario, Canada replies: "I have currently beeing going through something similar. Tried to get rid of the UTI on my own, but ended up taking the antibiotics. For a few days after I finished the anti's, I felt fine/normal. Then I kept getting this pressure feeling, which I had for over a week after. However, I had no other symptoms of a UTI. My friends parent is a pharmasist, and he said that that feeling could actually be from the antibiotics and nothing to do with the UTI. I started taking probiotics and after about 5 days on those the pressure feeling has gotten much much better. It could have actually just been an after-effect of the antibiotics. I have heard great things about d-mannose from a doctor I recently saw and I am going to start taking it everyday as per his directions to help prevent UTI's in the future."

[YEA] 04/30/2010: Traveler from Santa Barbara, Ca, Usa writes: "I got turned onto D-Mannose by a former roommate, and while I was sucking down Apple Cider Vinegar straight and water, I was having NO LUCK!
So I bought D-Mannose from the local big-chain health food store for about $35, and while it was expensive, it worked so good and immediately! I ended up getting some $25 stuff off of Amazon, and have used that occasionally if I feel "off" to good effect, though not all the time (like right now I thought I was treating BV and it's not responded expect a little, so I treated it like trich with tea tree oil and coconut oil and that really worked-- but it's only been a few hours.
But yes- D-Mannose is a necessity for a woman's medicine cabinet."
09/01/2010: Tasha from East Coast, Usa replies: "D-mannose 100% works. Not only will it blast a UTI away, but it seems to help with other female problems. Minor yeast, etc. I suffer from chronic volvodynia-like symptoms and this really helps it. Works even better in conjunction with citrical(for oxalate levels)and lots of h20. I highly recommend using the powder as the results are better than with the pills. VERY good stuff."

[YEA] 07/28/2009: IceSeraph22 from Burton, MI, USA writes: "I have never had UTI before. But when I got it I knew!! I called my mom and got her on the ball. But with all of her wisdom, a hot bath, sea salt, cranberry juice, and some over-the-counter drugs to help with the symptoms, it was the experiences of the people on this site that really made a difference. I went out and grabbed D-Mannose as quick as I could. This progressively helped my condition and in three days of use i was completely healed. Not to be religious. But I was free from pain and bleeding. I know pretty icky but this site keep it real.
I really appreciate this site. and this is not the first time that I have been helped."

[YEA] 07/04/2009: Kiki from San Diego, CA writes: "I used to get frequent urinary tract infections and was tired of paying $100 to go to the urgent care clinic for another prescription for antibiotics. Then, I read about D-Mannose. It's not an antibiotic because it does not kill bacteria. It is a type of natural sugar that gets excreted through the urinary tract. The sugar prevents bacteria from sticking to the walls of your urinary tract and flushes it away when you urinate. The instructions are on the bottle, but it comes in either tablet or powder form. You take it with a glass of water every few hours. You can use it as a treatment and also as regular prevention if you are the type to get it often. If you want more information, there is a ton on the internet. Many web stores sell it also. This simple treatment saved me a lot of money and a lot of suffering!"

[YEA] 03/20/2009: Kelly from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada writes: "I got a UTI (urethra) for the first time and the doctor prescribed me a round of Macrobid (antibiotic). I felt extremely sick 12 hours after taking one and almost threw up and had bad diahrrea (gross I know). The doctor wanted to prescribe me a different antibiotic but instead I searched the internet for natural remedies and came up with d-mannose. I bought a brand called ____ (sold here in Canada) from a natural health food store. It wasn't as potent as the supposed ___ brand or ____. It took about 7 days to clear it for good, but it's gone now and when I went back to the doctor a couple of days after taking it she said my infection was "milder and almost gone." She wouldn't attribute this to the d-mannose though. It was better within a couple of days. I started out with 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water, to make sure I wouldn't have a wierd reaction, about 3-4 times a day. In the first 3 days I recommend 1 teaspoon at least 5 times a day. If you want you can do it every couple of hours for the first day. You can wean yourself off of it, but make sure you take at least a teaspoon a day, when you feel it is gone to make sure. I am amazed! I was also taking apple cider vinegar on and off, but there is so much mixed information about whether you should create an acidic or alkaline environment for the bacteria. I took more baking soda in water too. About a teaspoon in a glass a day. As much as I could drink. The d-mannose helped the most though. I am now passing on it's curative ways to everyone I know. Now I hope ACV works for the cold/flu I have right now."

[YEA] 01/07/2009: Jan from Seattle, Wa writes: "D-Mannose powder (simple sugar) eliminates urinary tract infection quickly (24-48 hours) and safely by causing the bacteria to be flushed right out of the body with normal urination. D-Mannose is easy to buy, your local Health Food store has it.
It is a shame and unforgivable that doctors are not recommending this product - to people and to pets! I have small 16 years old dog, the dosage I use - 1/2 teaspoon with a little of her favorite treats crumbled in it - 3 times for only 1 to 2 days, and the infection is gone! (No more blood in urine, no rotten smell.) It works like a magic for people and pets! No antibiotic needed!"

[YEA] 10/30/2007: dave L from denver, colorado writes: "I just wanted to tell your site visitors about how I got rid of my urinary tract infection without taking antibiotics. I am male, 45 yrs old. I took D-mannose pills, 3 pills three times a day for a week and the buning at the tip of the penis persisted, even with drinking a lot of fluids, mostly water and cranberry juice.
I was discouraged because I had only a minor infection in the tip of the eurethra and yet I still couldn't get rid of it. BUT then I tried two teaspoons of 100% natural unbleached sea salt and started getting better immediately.( but it almost made me vomit ...I'm glad I held it down).
I also read at that time that baking soda or alka seltzer could reduce acidity in my system and that seemed to help keep symptoms from creeping back as well. I still think the sea salt which is also alkalizing, unlike regular salt, did the most good.(I also read that it replenishes lost salts and minerals that are unfortunatly washed away becuase of drinking some much fluid.) I kept up the D mannose as well until I felt fine for thee days or so (reducing the # of pills from 3 to 2 to 1 gradually)."

[YEA] 09/05/2007: Jake from Chicago, USA writes: "D-Mannose cured my urinary tract infection in one day, mostly overnight. I researched on the internet before I knew about earthclinic several months ago and found D-Mannose touted for UTI. My understanding was that it prevented bacteria from clinging to the wall of the bladder thereby helping the bacteria on its way out of your system, and in fact it worked like magic."

[YEA] 09/04/2007: Ami from Mountain View, California writes: "I saw a desparate help comment from Anonymous in Australia. I used D-Mannose from www.sweet-cures.com and it cured my long-standing bladder infection. I hope I can mention the specific brand, because I tried three other brands of D-Mannose before and they did nothing. D-Mannose from sweet-cures started working overnight. I was getting bladder infections repeatedly (every 2 weeks even after the antibiotic treatment) and finally, my Dr gave told me to take antibiotics every time I have sex, but I didn't want to do that and I started researching. I tried cranberry capsules and that didn't work, and I actually tried D-Mannose too (different brands - some had other herbs/vitamins in it, but I believe one brand was just D-Mannose), and that didn't work. I ordered D-Mannose from UK and that one worked practially over night! I was still starting to get the feeling in my bladder a couple of times even after D-Mannose got rid of it once, so when I felt the feeling, I took D-Mannose a couple of times in a row and it would go away. It's been about 3 years since I took D-Mannose last and I haven't had any bladder infections since. From what I know, D-mannose is a type of sugar - simple sugar - but it attaches to E.coli and Klebsiella."
Replies02/28/2009: Edith from Cambridge, UK replies: "My experience of D-Mannose chimes in with Ami in California. I am not employed by Sweetcures! After months of trying many of the remedies recommended on your and other pages + antibiotics originally, I found that for me, D-mannose taken an hour before and then after sex and then a few hours later has liberated me from bladder-lining cramp and infection. I never used to suffer from this until being post-menopausal... so probably due to decreased protection from oestrogen. Please try it to see if it suits you."

[YEA] 07/23/2007: Tonya from Portland, USA writes: "I recently got a bladder infection that worsened a few days before leaving town for the week. I had been trying to cure it with cranberry juice & pills, lots of water, and accupressure. It only got worse, even though these remedies had worked in the past. Desperate, I went to my doc before leaving town and he prescribed antibiotics. I cried - I hate the stomach trouble and yeast infection that ALWAYS follow this treatment. I read your site the night before flying out and decided to give d-mannose a try since a friend once reccomended it. MIRACLE! The next day I felt much better (no more bladder/kidney pain) and within two days the burning sensation ceased. I don't know how I would have made it through my flight otherwise! It's now been 4 days and my infection is steadily improving and with much quicker results than I ever got with cranberry pills. If you've tried other natural remedies and they don't work, TRY D-MANNOSE!"

[YEA] 03/15/2007: Melinda from Arlington, VA writes: "I've been having regular bouts of urinary tract infections and in the past I've HAD to go on antibiotics - after trying cranberry juice, UTI-Clear (Native Remedies product), and AZO pills. I've had a UTI for the past couple of days and it seemed to be getting worse. I looked on your site and found D-Mannose. I went to Whole Foods first thing this morning and bought a bottle. I started feeling better within about 30 minutes of taking it. When I got home this evening, I was starting to feel a little pain again, and so I took another dose of D-Mannose. I feel SO much better! THANK YOU!!"

I found this site and decided to try the D-Mannose. I am forever doubtful of things sounding too good to be true. In one day I am feeling 100% better! I told my husband that I could not believe that this stuff works this fast. He does not believe it's possible. All that I can say is I suffered for over a week, and right now I feel wonderful!!"

[YEA] Liz from Stroudsburg, PA writes: "I have been through a lifelong battle with urinary tract infections. It's been a vicious cycle of antibiotics then yeast infections and once had laser surgery of my urethrea to open up passage. Cranberry helped, but never cured the problem. Finally my sister found the answer. It's called d-mannose. It is a type of sugar that bonds to the type of bacteria that causes the infection. It works only on infections caused by the bacteria that naturally live in our digestive system and escape into urinary tract. However these make up 90% of urinary infections. for me it's been a miracle. One dose can be taken as a preventative after intercourse. or a few doses a day in case of a full infection. great for pregnant women who don't want antibiotics. I went from having at least 6 infections a year to being antibiotic free for the past 3 years. Couldn't be happier."
Replies08/15/2008: Holly from Broadview Hts, Ohio replies: "I'm trying the d-mannose for my elderly mom, who's had two uti's within the last month. The 1st uti wasn't treated with enough anti-biotics, the 2nd, required hospitalization, with IV antibiotics and a weeks worth of oral antibiotic. I'm hoping the d-mannose will do the trick to keep this awful infection from occurring again. Has anyone successfully used d-mannose for the elderly? Thanks."

D-MANNOSE, GARLIC, ALKALINE PILLS

[YEA] 10/25/2010: Webgal from Richmond, Va writes: "I've been having chronic, unabated urinary tract infections for years. I actually ran across this site looking for sinus infection cures and decided to share my secret for no UTIs. I was plagued with these and my life was miserable until I started doing this. How I discovered my regimen:
I was at restaurant and they served garlic soup. Right after, I realized symptoms of UTI were gone. I almost did not go to the dinner because of the pain of the UTI. Made the soup and that worked but can't make it all the time. So here is my daily regimen for keeping away UTI
Garlic pill (odorless). 1 in morning, 1 at night
1 D-mannose per day. (Sometimes when I feel symptoms, I do one at night)
Vitamin C every day. I take a liquid Vit C
Also I use an alkaline pill I found at the health food store every once in a while. No UTIs since I began doing this."
10/25/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I am not sure about the odorless garlic pills as I have just read that they don't have the same work as fresh garlic because the pungent odor means that you are getting the good stuff. I think that it makes sense..... But it is a good idea about using the garlic against the UTI. I don't have a lot anymore but I will try if I ever have one again! I hate antibiotics..... I just add crushed garlic through my food, no problem or sometimes in the salads."

DANDELION

[YEA] 10/31/2009: Liz from Shelton, Washington writes: "Dandelion is free. Recently used it to cure bladder and kidney infections in both my granddaughter and my daughter. Used the dried leaf which I had collected and dried. It really does work. Use one rounded teaspoon per six to eight ounces of boiling water. Let it steep for at least five minutes before drinking. If the infection is severe two rounded teaspoons may be used per cup. Do not use dandelion leaves that have been sprayed with chemicals or that have been collected from along roads or highways. I have very old dandelion plants that grow leaves that obtain 14 inches in length and 8 to 9 inches wide and collect them every year to dry. Dandelion also makes a good body cleanse and was used by the pioneers as a spring tonic. Some people do not care for the taste of the tea so adding a mint tea and some honey to it improves the taste. My daughter says she doesn't mind the taste."

[YEA] 06/04/2006: Shelley from Nova Scotia writes: "I tried almost everything, conventional and alternative. Finally found my cure-dandellion tea and Oil of Oregano at first sign of infection and as a preventative I take acidophillus supplements try to keep the bacteria balanced. If I stick to these three products I can keep my bladder under control. Basically cures my bladder infections and the infections are occuring less often as times goes by. I hope this helps someone else because I was very discouraged when I finally found this "cure", I had spent a lot of money and time trying to find relief. When I went into my health store and said I think I have tried everything here, do you have any suggestions, they offered me the oil of oregano and said they had never heard any bad results. Great stuff!!"

[YEA] 01/15/2012: Rose from London, Uk writes: "Never had this condition before and had frequent urination (no discharge) for over 6 weeks (all during Xmas) and 3 lots of antibiotics. Finally, found this website and started taking own action. Thanks ladies for your advice. One more thing to add to the discussion in addition to all the other remedies. I decided to drastically change my diet. Cut out all foods with added sugar (yeah, all the nice stuff - cakes, chocolate, etc. ), cut down all yeast foods and replaced with rye bread/flat bread/crackers etc. Replaced regular tea/coffee with decaff and mint tea. Used honey instead of refined sugar. Cranberry juice and water instead of alcohol. It's a toughy but I have to say it's working. I've been free for over a week.. Not long I know but it feels better than nothing. What's more, the weight is coming off too! Don't recommend this forever, but was tired of seeing doctors and thought it time to take myself in hand! Hope this helps. Good luck to you all."

[YEA] 02/25/2009: B from Fair Lawn, NJ writes: "I would like to let you know that urinary tract infections can be caused by candida yeast as well as bacteria. If you have the symptoms and are having trouble getting over it by taking the standard cranberry and D'Mannose remedies, consider yeast, particularly if urine analysis is clear. I found this out after the infection got much worse following a breakfast of homemade cookies and pancakes. Then I noticed on another popular site a person had the same symptoms, pain, light brown spotting in the front of underwear, constant feeling of having to urinate, etc. This was after the doctor laughed, told me my urinalysis was clear and I was just dehydrated and overreacting.
What helped me was to cut out sugar and wheat, and take raw garlic, oil of oregano, OSHA root and coconut oil. Not sure which one helped the most, but after two weeks, I just wanted to get better, and I did."
