[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 02/17/2009: Jason from London, UK writes: "Hi there, I was suffering very badly from Acid Reflux a few months ago and had to carry rennie tablets everywhere with me when I had attacks. I looked for natural cures on the Internet and found this site. I mix the ACV with some juice and it worked great, at first.
I have started to notice that I have been getting very constipated recently, and the only change in diet is me using Apple Cider Vinegar. I must take ACV to cure my heart burns, then I will get constipation as a result of it & this will then make my acid reflux even worse. It is a vicious cycle that I don't know how to get out of.
I have two choices:
1 - Stay without acid burn pains and feel nauseas, bloated, sluggish and constipated all the time
or
2 - Stay with the acid burn pains after I eat anything and have no constipation
Any help you could provide me at all?"
02/28/2009: Victoria from Commerce, Michigan replies: "if you use the apple cider vinegar cure you have to drink alot of water w/it so that it can flush out your system, your system needs flushing. that's why you are getting constipated. ACV is one of the best things you can do to flush your internal organs but its not going to work unless you are drinking more water. it detoxes your system."
04/14/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, California replies: "Dear Jason: Also, take magnesium. It is a natural laxative that as far as I know is safe. Sincerely, Angie"
04/14/2009: Gigi from Palm Coast, Florida replies: "Hi Jason, I also experienced constipation when I first took ACV. However, when I switched to the ___ brand, with the 'mother' in it, I found it wasn't an issue any more. The ordinary supermkt ACV will cause constipation. Hope this helps."
04/15/2009: Kathy from Bristol, TN replies: "I too get constipation from ACV ritual. So I have been switching to Lemon and Baking Soda rather than ACV. Constipation still a problem but not as bad and it Seems to work the same as far as GERD, and does not cause me to be jittery. Weather has been keeping me indoors without much exercise. I take liquid magnesium, along with Vit.c, D, B and Greens. Also use a fish oil liquid mixed in yogurt. Some say molasses helps. Baking Soda is really helpful for the gerd and gripy stomach acid stuff."
04/15/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "When i first tried taking ACV it also caused me bloating, gas and other stomach problems. So I stopped taking it and used lime juice. You could try lime juice or lemon juice instead. Just use it the same way.
Later due to the hard time I was having finding limes that have no pesticides I went back to ACV - but I now drink 1/2 a teaspoon in my bottled water per 32 ounces. This does not make me have the bloating, gas, etc.
I don't know however if this will work for GERD. But I would think that drinking the lime juice or lemon juice the same way you drank the ACV might help."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 02/08/2009: Shawna from Charleroi, PA writes: "I am 21 years old and have been suffering with acid reflux and heartburn since I was a lot younger. I was on nexium for about 3 years and on prilosec for about 5 or more. After reading about all the harmful side affects with long use I was desperate to find a natural cure. I found this website and it is quite a blessing to me. I stoped taking prilosec completly on Feb 1st and started taking 2 teaspoons of braggs organic apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water the next day. The first day i took it when I woke up about a half hour before eating anything and I had no symptoms of acid reflux till yesterday. I think I messed up by taking it after I ate. I still have mild heartburn but Im willing to suffer with it and try to make this work! Any other things I should try? let me know! Thanks"

[YEA] 02/07/2009: Philip from Sparks, NV USA writes: "I tried Prilosec for the required 14 days, the next day it was worse then when I started, then I tried an off brand made in Israel it worked for 14 days, but my relux came back. So a guy at work was telling me about Apple cider vinegar, we had the Trader Joe's with the mother and I fiqured I'd give it a chance. I started with 2 tablespoons in 8 oz. of water at breakfast, lunch and dinner, I quit taking green tea in my thermos and started taking ACV and honey to sip on all day, I'll have to say I am a believer, I have no signs of reflux at all, plus drinking this I'm starting to feel better over all. I am going to add some cayenne to help with overall health. It's nice to know that a natural, God breathed apple can heal the body. Have a great day and God Bless"

[QUESTION] 02/06/2009: Roman from Phoenix, Az writes: "Question regarding ulcerated esophagus: I have been prescribed Protonix for an ulcerated esophagus due to severe reflux. Even though I had surgery to reduce the damage done by reflux the ulcers occurred in recent months. My question is should I subscribe to daily doses of Apple Cider Vinegar or simply remain on Protnix indefinitely? Thank you"
Replies05/21/2009: FC from Rushville, IN, USA replies: "You should take both. It's dangerous to stop taking a medicine prescribed for ulcers in the esophagus. I really wouldn't want to risk getting cancer in the esophagus."

[YEA] 02/02/2009: Dan from Holland, MI/USA writes: "It is the day after the Super Bowl, and after consuming several beers, a few mixed drinks, buffalo wings and nachos, I slept all night with no heartburn. About a week and a half ago I found this site and decided to try the ACV cure. I had been living with heartburn and acid reflux for years and taking ranitidine for it. But it became less and less effective. I tried Prilosec OTC and it helped for the two weeks that I took the pills but once I stopped, the heartburn returned. So much for lasting 4 months! Then I was back to ranitidine. Now, I'm not sure I can attribute it all to the ACV. I have also been exercising regularly; watching what and when I eat (except for yesterday); lost some weight; as well as eating apple slices, honey, and the yogurt with the probiotics. My approach is this: get my digestive system working normally and deal with any heartburn if and when it does flare up. The ACV, honey, and yogurt are for fixing my digestive system, the apple slices are for any flare ups. The only caveat I have is that the Prilosec is still in my system and will be for about another month. I am very pleased with the results so far."

[YEA] 02/02/2009: Stephanie Siegner from Seabrook, Texas writes: "ACV for Acid Reflux: I tried ACV (Heinz) and it was great. I slept a full night for the first time in 2 years. Dentist said it is bad for tooth enamel. Went to ACV tablets but got a headache everyday and Acid Reflux came back. Now, trying Bragg's 2tsp w/8oz water and 1 tsp honey. Chewing sugarless gum with Xylitol and hopefully that will protect my enamel. Anyone tried this? Either way, it's better than Prilosec which caused many other problems. Thanks for your site! It's great!"
EC: I've been drinking ACV (no honey added) in water almost daily for the past 10 years and have absolutely no issues with dental enamel! To me it's a non-issue. I've never followed the suggestions made by people like immediately brushing my teeth, rinsing with water, or swishing with baking soda. False information on the net trying to scare people away from taking ACV?

[YEA] 01/07/2009: Dione from Dublin, OH writes: "I have Hiatal Hernia and just started taking the ACV to avoid taking more meds or having surgery, since those seemed to be my only options. Its only been 2 day but its starting to work. Since to me the 2 teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water tastes like lemonade without sugar (I actually like it), I think if you give to children mixed with some lemonade it may work. Also, based on other's email, in addition to the ACV when I started to feel I was getting the reflux (before going to bed), I ate an apple and it actually helped me get rid of it."

12/28/2008: Joe from Fredericksburg, VA writes: "I am going to give you my testimonial as I am experiencing it. In the time I'm waiting for this ACV remedy to kick in, I will explain to you my follies with Acid Reflux. I developed it about a year ago. This was when something in my life happened that changed my life-style completely (I won't go into detail). Anywho, I love to cook and I love to eat food (fine or fast, doesn't matter to me). About a year ago, I laid down to go to sleep after eating a certain four-patty burger from a certain Royal fast food chain. Big mistake. About three hours later, I wake up with fire in my stomach and throat, thinking I was gonna die. I didn't know what to think, so I took some antacids and stomach-coaters. It worked for the night. I didn't think much of it at the time until it happened over and over again. So, I've been with it for a year with no remedy except time. Now that I've found this ACV remedy it seems to work. And doesn't taste too bad either. Thank you all for discovering this miracle cure."

[YEA] 12/04/2008: Ursula from Sudbury, Ontario/Canada writes: "I found your website because after trying all different kinds of thing without substantial results I decided to go back to a more natural approach. So I have a lap band for several years already - lately my trouble with acid reflux got worse and I thought the symptoms like pain behind my sternum, extreme tightness in my throat even down to my esophagus was caused by a too tight lab band, but my surgeon ensured me after reviewing my x-rays that my lap band and the way it is placed and the way my stomach pouch is located is just perfect.
So he agreed that the discomfort, PAIN, and nightly suffocation attacks indicate a acid reflux problem and he gave me a prescription for Apo-Omeprazole.
Even though it cost me $ 155 I didn't feel too comfortable to take it with all the things and side effects - so to make a long story short - having heard about Apple Cider Vinegar I looked for it on the internet and came to this website, yesterday. I took the vinegar water mix (1.5 tablespoon of vinegar/1 glass water) right away and since then 3 times per day. After two glasses of mix last night I had the best night sleep in a long time.
Anybody else out there with a lap band and acid reflux problems?"
Replies03/05/2009: Angie from Lake Charles, La replies: "Yes I have the lap band for about 5 years now have lost 170 pounds have been suffering with acid flux for a year and half now. i am on nexium which helps but it's at night that's the problem all the problems you guys have stated i have. i am going to give the apple cider vinger a try and see. it's getting really bad i don't sleep at all plus it is affecting my ashtma to. i know if i go to my lab band doctor he will tell me to take out that band and that's not gonna happen sorry i know i would gain some weight back and i am not gonna let that happen. gonna give this a try and see."
12/28/2009: Reebs26 from Waco, Tx replies: "Like Angie from Lake Charles, I had lap-band surgery. I my case, it was about 4 years ago and I've lost 165 pounds (from 300 to 135). Just this past month, I started having reflux very very bad at night. I've occasionally had reflux with the band, but it was always b/c it was too tight. This time, though, it's happening every night, and Tums and Maalox aren't working. I'm worried that I might have a slip or a hernia. Needless to say, I'll be trying the ACV and honey tonight! I'm also going on a liquid diet (protein shakes) for the next few days to try to deal with any inflammation I'm having from excessive PB's this week. Fingers crossed that that the ACV helps."

[YEA] 12/02/2008: Frances from Blanchard, LA writes: "I have been using the apple cider remedy off and on for the last 3 weeks. Because I was laid off from work the state run insurance decided that I did not need the Acid Reflux med. They said I could use the over the counter stuff. After 6 months of agony I went to the internet and found the acid reflux remedy. It has been a great relief to me and it also has cleared my skin which really surprised. I use the apple cider vinegar to rinse my hair too.
I have been using 1 teaspoon to 8 oz of water. I use about a 1/4 cup of vinegar in a large 20 oz cup water shampoo and the rinse with the vinegar."

I have only had 3 weeks relief out of the past 4 months using homepathic medications, I ran out of them and within 2 weeks the pain in my stomach and the pressure in my chest have been so bad I was desperate. My friend has been trying to get me to try Apple Cidar Vinegar and I thought yuck who wants to drink vinegar. I tried it for the first time 2 days ago and could not believe within minutes the pressure was gone. I slept better that night than I have in 4 months."
Replies12/07/2008: Roxanne from Cape Coral, FL replies: "I have tried the acv and did in fact get some relief. Don't be to concerned about the taste, it is such a small amount that will give you (or at least gave me) months of relief. I drink 1Tbs when needed and that's approx every 4-5 months. After the first one, you don't even think about the taste anymore (it's better cold though). In fact, my 12 year old neice suffers from reflux and I got her to drink. There is no burning, more like a cooling effect. Good luck!!"

PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS ARE UNNATURAL AND IT'S FOREIGN CHEMICALS ARE SIMPLY JUST NOT GOOD FOR OUR BODIES. "

11/24/2008: Jenny from Orem, UT/USA writes: "I also got my esophagus and stomach scoped. I have some acid reflux damage showing on my esophagus, and I don't really understand my acid reflux. I rarely have problems with it (I take antacids before bed), but every once in a while I have problems where my throat hurts, I feel sick, can't breathe, etc., and It's horrible. I take pepto and tums when I feel like that, but it takes a while to work and I feel sick for a while. I have not tried the ACV remedy yet, and I'm a little hesitant to. Does it cause any nausea? Will it burn my throat or stomach? Does anyone have any advice for my problems? I'm thankful for any advice!"
Replies[YEA] 05/20/2010: Gr82cu from Reno, Nv replies: "I have been suffering from acid reflux for years, especially after my doctor advised me to kill my thyroid (I had Graves disease and surgery didn't ensure they'd get all of it.) with radiation treatment (I took a pill and that was that). Afterward, my acid reflux got worse. I've done Prisolec which worked pretty good, but after awhile, got to be more than I could afford (I'm unemployed), so I began using an over-the-counter acid reducer. The other night, I could not sleep. I finally got up around 5am and took a sleep inducer, and woke up 3 hours later with bile in my throat. Ugh & Yuck. I'd read somewhere that Apple Cider Vinegar was good for acid reflux, but didn't know how to administer it. When I was finished in the bathroom, I went into the kitchen & retrieved my apple cider vinegar, which I'm sure has been filtered. I took 1 tbsp. of it straight from the bottle. It went down a bit raspy (You have to remember that I just burned my esphogous [sp?] from the bile), but today I am feeling much better. I slept all through the night last night without any problems. I will try it again this evening before bed...And now I read that I should be putting it in water. I think I'll just "drink it down" in a teaspoon!"

[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 11/09/2008: Carol from Sioux Falls, South Dakota writes: "I have suffered from severe acid reflux for the last year. Was placed on Nexium and had horrible side effects. My esophogus is throbbing constantly. I have had all the tests, stress tests, chest x_rays,upper endoscopy and Chest CT--all came out ok. I went off the nexium 15 days ago and the rebound was miserable--the side effects are still there----ringing in my ears, tingling in my legs, dizziness, etc. I have been on the apple cider vinegar remedy for the last 15 days. It helped a little at first but the discomfort is back. The throbbing in my esophogus and not sleeping is the worst. I definitely believe that the vinegar does help some people but I'm not so sure about the really tough cases like mine. I would sincerely appreciate some feedback as I have no intention of ever going back on the nexium. Is 15 days on the vinegar remedy long enough to expect at least some improvement? Thanks for the help."
Replies11/14/2008: SUZANNE from ATLANTA, GA replies: "I have severe GERD and haven't yet tried the acv treatment, but was previously prescribed Nexium which gave me a severe migraine. I have since been taking Prevacid which works much better."
11/26/2008: Laurie from Winston Salem, NC replies: "I was on a medicine called Aciphex and loved it. I had no issues with side effects. I'm now on Nexium because my insurance decided not to pay for the Aciphex anymore. I'm not as pleased with Nexium and try to avoid taking it unless my symptoms become severe. Otherwise I use over the counter stuff, and that doesn't seem to always work either. I'm going to try the ACV to see if it helps."

[YEA] 11/08/2008: Keran from Cocoa, FL writes: "I have suffered for over 20 years with acid reflux. Prilosec used to work when it was prescribed and not able to be bought over the counter. I suffered morning noon and night. Just taking a drink of water in the morning would trigger the acid reflux. Tonight I was so fed up with drinking baking soda, that I typed in "home remedies for acid reflux disease" and hit this site. I immediately drank ACV with water and cannot believe the burning is gone. When I get up in the morning, before coffee I am going to drink it again. WOW what a relief it is, so ironic, I am saying that, isn't that a slogan for a commercial that doesn't work?? I am in heaven. Just so you know, my husband wanted to have sex today, but I was in so much pain from the disgusting pain of acid reflux, I had to pass, but after the ACV treatment, I invited him to bed!!!!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 10/18/2008: Casey from Chicora, Pennsylvania writes: "hi this is the first time i have ever replied to a website like this. so here it goes. for the last couple of wks i have . recently i have had severe chest pain, earache, and flu like symptoms on one day. yesterday at work i was in really bad shape my chest felt like i had a 500lb person sitting on it and i am only 117lbs so that is alot. i though i was havin a heartattack. on top of that i took four asprin not all at once but during a 8 hr pd.so i woke up today and took tums. they relieved some of the pain but i didnt really have much. i figured i would look on the internet to see about acid reflux due to i remember havin it a few yrs ago but not thtat bad. i read the acv article and decided to try it. well i have had it in my system for two hrs now and it seems to have helped alot. except for the whole fact of the taste is really bad. lol. i really hope it works and stays away. but we will see. thanks for the advice though and i love this site."
Replies10/28/2008: Connie from Knoxville, TN replies: "Casey, you said you had severe pressure in your chest... was it more the center of the chest or under your left rib cage... I am experiencing major pressure under left rib cage and the drugs, ACV, etc. seem to be doing nothing. This is only my first day using ACV, so I will give it more time. Thanks."
10/31/2008: Lorraine from Charles Town, WV, USA replies: "Hello, in answer to your pressure in the chest issue... I have esophageal cancer and a hernia, I also get the pressure in the chest and it seems to be related to the early digestive process. I strongly urge you to try sitting up straight to take pressure off the stomach, and try to breathe deeply. Tums may help some, but I found it really didn't get to the pressure area. I think you need to speak with your DR on this, make sure that the pressure is not from a twist in the intestines or hernia.Eating right and staying away from coffee is also important. (Take it from me, black coffee is not your friend).
Some of the earliest signs of cancer go undetected because today's society makes indigestion as common a reference as overeating. But it IS serious, and can make your life painfully change if you do not address the situation medically. If you have not been to the doctor, go. The pressure in my chest is what caused me to go, and although it was from air in the herniated area of the stomach (where it comes into the chest cavity) I would never have caught the cancer until it was deadly. Don't take unnecessary risks with your life. It is too short as it is."
04/18/2010: Tman from Phoenix, Az replies: "instead of liquid apple cider vinegar, try tablets. the liquid is harsh to take, I know!"

I was suffering from acid reflex for years, as far as I remember - I kept on taking TUMBS to ease the pain every time I got A.F problem. I got some sleepless nights and that burning sensation - sucks!!!
Recently I was surfing the net for some organic remedy, I found this site - So I tried ACV (two teaspoonfulof ACV with water). And oh boy, it works!!!
Thank you so much for all the help and you guys made my day.
Organic is better than some chalky and dry medicine...yack!!!
Cheers to all!!!"
01/29/2010: Robert from Atlanta, Ga replies: "I have had nausea and vomitting after eating for several months. The only treatment that made a substantial difference was Apple Cider Vinegar with honey in water.Over the months I realized I have too little stomach acid and adding the vinegar provides acid. In general, if you are short on stomach acid vinegar will work well. If it doesn't you have too much stomach acid.
Remember, the symptoms for too little and too much stomach acid are the same !!!
If you benefit from vinegar, try betain hydrochloride as an acid replacement as described by Dr.J.Wright and others.
Most of the time, when there is a shortage of stomach acid, there is also a shortage of pancreatic enzymes. This can be corrected by taking pancreatin tablets (enteric coated). There is another benefit to take pancreatin, it is alkaline, meaning it neutralizes acid. So, you don't end up with too much acid in the body. One can test the capacity of both supplements by mixing the pulverized tablets (acid and pancreatin) in water and see what proportion results in a neutral pH (7). Used some pH paper for testing and wait until a permanent pH is reached ( up to an hour)."

I have taken Nexium, Aciphex, Prilosec, etc. but nothing worked for me. In fact, some of the meds made my symptoms worse. I started seeing a naturopathic Dr. and it helped to some extent, but didn't alleviate the symptoms entirely. I would wake up several times during the night and finally had to elevate our bed about 8 inches, which my husband had to get used to. This helped too, but still was waking up with symptoms. Yesterday i was searching the internet and found this site and i saw the ACV comments and decided to try it. So i mixed a tablespoon of organic ACV with a cup of water and added some maple syrup for sweetening and drank 1 dose at about 6:00 pm and another before bedtime. Last night was the first night in MONTHS that i have slept thru the night and felt rested. It was awesome! That pain behind my sternum has disappeared and i don't feel that "hairball" in my throat anymore. I took another dose this morning and feel almost "normal" again. I can't believe what a difference this is making for me! I am so thankful that i tried this. I was almost at the end of my rope with these symptoms and just could not take the meds anymore. I've actually heard from some naturopathic folks that acid reflux is actually a LACK of stomach acid. Don't know if that's true, but it makes sense if the ACV is making the symptoms disappear. I plan to continue with this therapy and hope that it will continue to work."

If you get the burning start with less than a tablespoon because you may not need as much, like me. Go on give it a try. It is worth the try to be free from meds and that knife pain in your stomach.
