Does anyoneknow how long grapefruit seed extract can be kept in water before it goes bad? For instance, I want to make up a batch and use it as an internal cleanser. Thank you

To rid your mouth of bad odors, floss your teeth, brush your teeth, and scrape your tongue. Do these twice a day and your health will improve. The odors are caused by bacteria. These methods will reduce the amount of bacteria.

GSE can be added to orange juice. Even my kids can't taste it in OJ. No other juice disguises the flavor like it does.

I have used GSE in the past for candida but I'm looking forward to using it for other things. I live where mold is a problem so I make a mixture of 20 drops GSE, 2 cups water, a few drops tea tree oil and a few drops lavender. I spray it on walls, furniture and it works great. I also put some in my dishwater-where I live there's no water lines to it's just rainwater in a big tank. The GSE helps with any bugs that may be there.

Grapefruit seed extract "citricidal" cures ringworm. I used about 4 drops in 3 tablespoons luke warm water, twice daily, applied with cotton-wool pad. It got rid of my cat's ringworm in about 7 days.

We use: Grapefruit seed Extract. H20, caramel extract, xylitol for sweetness -- found in sugar-free gums. A solution of 20 drops Grapefruit Seed Extract with 10oz. H20 and carmal extract for taste has cured incoming dogs to the pet rescue of bad breath and tartar build up. This took about 2 days of having it sprayed into the mouth for bad breath and a week to notice loss of tarter. Daily maintenance of 4 drops in water also showed a reduction in weight in our heavier dogs. Give chew toys or carrots to dogs during this time to assist with the cleaning process.

GSE is an excellent anti bacterial element and has many uses for people and pets. Great for raising the pets PH level as well.

Hi Tina, My question is, as to which essential oil you have used ? Ted has recommended orange/ lemon oil to clean the heart arteries of their deposits. the reason I am asking this question is that every essential oil bottle is written with warning "for external use only' or "Not for internal use" Let us know your experience. For yeast infections, try grapefruit seed extract (4-8 drops directly in juice or water) On a daily basis as a supplement, and stay away from refined sugar, which feeds the yeast. Also- liquid stevia, a natural sweetener contains grapefruit seed extract and is a tasty addition to anything you drink!

I know that there are some scary articles on the internet about grapefuit seed exctract. Difficult to know who is telling the truth! Sometimes sites demonize other supplements only so that they sell their own. As I said here before I bought it after talking to the lady in the pharmacy who told me that a friend of hers, a biologist, told her that if she was going to a deserted island and could take only one item she would take GSE. This is the second bottle I bought, always in the pharmacy. This one says that it is a source of bioflavonoids and Vitamin C. It also says that it is of natural origin. The contents are vegetable glycerin, water, Vitamin C and GSE. The bad part is that GSE is the last ingredient, meaning that it has more glycerin and water than GSE. To be honest one has no way of knowing who is right and who is wrong!

... Which is exactly why regulation is a GOOD thing. No one would have to "wonder" what ingredients are present, not present, good, bad, etc.

I certainly don't favor regulations in general, but for what we are putting into our bodies, HELL to the yes - that should be regulated so that we can make informed decisions.

Thanks for the information on clove oil, Elly. I had a small rash and I applied the usual (tea tree oil, lavender oil, GSE, etc. ) but nothing really happened until I tried a few drops of clove oil (love the smell! ). It started to clear up within a few hours and, one day later, is almost gone. I've used clove oil for toothaches but never thought of using it for anything else. Cheers! Bess

Staph
Posted by Shelby (Newburgh, In) on 09/19/2010

I had been struggling with a staph infection near my right eye since November 2009. I tried cremes and a variety of natural remedies, however the most effective was grapefruit seed extract. It pulled the infection up to the surface where my body and oxygen was able to kill it. I am terribly allergic to citrus and so it gave me quite a nasty rash, but I just fixed that with vitamin E. Definately go with GSE, it is messy when the infection surfaces, and you must be careful not to spread it more, but now there is nothing near my eye and my face is whole again. I thought I would never be well and lo and behold I am.

Katrinika,
There is no better gum conditioner than one that uses the following formula: Water, Prickly Ash Bark, Sodium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Atomidine (Iodine Trichloride, 1% solution), and Flavor: Natural Peppermint Spirits. Look that up and you will find that a whole slew of stores carry it. It might even be at you neighborhood health food store! I put a little bit on a Qtip and then rub it all over my gums at night before going to sleep - massage it really well. Then in the abssesed tooth - test it and make sure it doesn't burn. If it doesn't, then put it directly on it. I would put it on there throughout the day, if it doesn't burn.

Please try taking liquid chlorophyll for the bad odor in your mouth. It will be good for your overall health as well. 1 Tablespoon in water 1-2 times/day. If upset stomach occurs, use a little less. Mine says to take first thing in the morning and before bed, but I take it with food because I have a sensitive stomach. Great for post-nasal drip, by the way.

I am now trying GSE on my cat- that seems to have ringworm fungus on his ears. It is non poisonous to cats- where the feline has no enzyme to process the chemicals in essential oil- as in phenols& terpenes or limolene which is orange oil. I just read that oil of oregano is good for people and sheep with ringworm fungus- but a cat can't have the terpenes in oregano oil- the specific terpene is (? spelling? -thymisol) but that being in oregano, & thyme was good as an oil extract for people with ringworm or other fungus on the skin.

I suggest organic coconut oil swished in mouth and spit out after 10 minutes, after brushing teeth at night. Works to stop mouth and tooth smell and decay. It is lauric acid- so it is a bit drying to skin and hair. Sinus infections advice is why I found this thread- I liked the hydrogen peroxide and 3 drops GSE-grapefruit seed extract.

FWIW, sea salt, any kind will also give instant relief to acid reflux. I stumbled into a few years ago, and brought a small container to a weekend seminar in Albuquerque in 2012, and folks seen me using it and they wanted to try it too, lol, but it was good for all interested. I carried it in a small 15-ml nalgene bottle on the ready at a moments notice. I no longer need it, cuz I got a hold of some of my dietary issues. Anyways, others had relux and needed the salt and so were grateful, and I was glad to share.

My 1st instance of hearing about diverticulitis, was at the nurses office at a company I worked for in the 1980's, her reco to my complaint of burning in gut area was to eat more roughage and she was right. Adding apples to the diet got rid of the burning and pain, I was un-yet wise to the natural ways of eating to rid the body of its' ills, but never the less it was very good advice, no recos for anything chemicals from the nurse, and so good for her!

If you are using Grapefruit seed extract for candida, here's the formula that worked for me.

The extract MUST be organic, AND without alcohol... Non organic versions do not cover the full spectrum of anti-fungal/biotic/parasitic properties... on average it is 70% less effective.

15 drops 3 x a day 20mins before food.

Diet.
standard anti candida diet for 2 weeks, strictly.
the next 2 weeks, 3 days on the diet, 1 day off
the next week, 2 days on, 1 day off
final week, 1 day on, 1 day off.

After you're clear, for maintenence, take 10 drops first thing am, and 5 drops last thing pm and have 1 strict anti-candida diet day every week, but really try to keep your daily diet alkaline. As candida thrives in an acid environment.

Also, I am interested in using GSE to help clear out candida. How long should I use the GSE for? I plan to put about 6 GSE drops in my 20 oz water glass when I use it. Take molybdenum it is a trace mineral & will break down proteins (toxins) so you don't feel sick. It helps during this process because our bodies can only excrete a tiny amount of toxins at a time.

Your welcome Francisca, there's lots of info all around here on how to use the oils but I did find some that had the info in one page. Just have to be careful to get pure oils. I heard certain fillers can have side effects like seizures. And use them in moderation, I read high doses can have side effects too like causing liver problems. Clove oil is so strong for me I get a little worried using it everyday. I feel to try something a little more gentle like oregano or GSE.

Hi guys, found some more interesting info on these oils. I read oregano taken regularly can cause problems with iodine absorption so make sure to supplement.

http://www.candidablog.com/oil-of-oregano.php

Grapefruit seed extract can reduce the enzyme function in the liver and intestines 'The reduction of enzymatic activity can lead to elevated concentrations of these drugs in your blood.'

http://www.livestrong.com/article/175270-grapefruit-seed-extract-side-effects/

Clove oil can be especially hard on children. http://www.ehow.com/about_5643228_side-effects-clove-oil_.html

Just Yahoo or Google 'The Darker side of eugenol oil.' I found clove oil super powerful but will be using it modestly. I don't want my family to trade in their athlete's foot or nail fungus for potential liver problems. I'm encouraging the to just lessen their sugar to stop feeding fungus so they don't have to take these oils longterm. I'll probably look into the chromium and vanadium supplements to help them lower their blood sugar.

Elly. Wait, hello everyone @ EC. Have been surfing here for some time in the attempt to regain health. Back to Elly's post on the danger of grapefruitseed on liver enzymes. I have long been aware of naringin's (compound present in grapefruit) liver enzyme inhibition, but have never read that naringin is present in the seeds. I tried two caps of seed extract today (for my first time), and didn't notice any liver inhibition (I have depressed detox for yrs so I can always tell if something agonizes or antagonizes). Adding to this, clove is also known for it's liver enzyme inhibition through the compond Eugenol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenol

Hi Francisca, this is all new to me as well--I've been using GSE in my homemade liquid soap for years (which I've used often--head to toe). And I also occasionally take GSE (1 or 2 drops) internally, so hopefully this is just some misleading information on the GSE. Or at least that it's not as bad as some are making it sound. I'd like to hear more opinions on it. I just found this article, which sounds very much against GSE, but the real "juice" is in the comments. A guy who seems to really know what he's talking about, stating that much of the article is inaccurate.

WARNING!

I wish somebody had mentioned in the tooth abscess thread that grapefruit seed extract should not be used full strength in the mouth. It was one of the few items mentioned in the thread that I had in the house when at 3:00am this morning I read four pages of the thread and decided to try it as part of a poultice in a bit of gauze, which I left in my mouth until the pain from it seemed so much worse than the abscess I was trying to relieve that I got up and took it out (about three hours). I've been sick and have missed a lot of sleep over the last five months... At 3am I'm not too cogent. I didn't read the bottle. Now I've got second-degree burns in the entire left side of my mouth.. Gums and cheek. It's worse than the tooth abscess, will last longer (with tissue sloughing and probable infection), and is likely to leave significant scars. Now there's no chance that I can avoid the antibiotics. I really could have used just a tiny warning.

When I got home I followed the direction on the bottle, 3 drops with some water, my pain was gone but I had a burning tip tongue all night and could not sleep. I spent all night googling the cure for burning tongue, I tried rinsing my tongue over and over and over and tried the ice and everything but my tongue is still hurting. It's not swollen but it hurts. What can I do?

5 years ago my little dog had a bad ear infection or at least 2 years and nothing we tried, both veterinary or natural cured it, until I found a 7 year old bottle o GSE in my cupboard. I put 2 drops pure in her ear and the next morning the discharge had dried up and she has been well ever since.

Now I myself used it pure on my thumb yesterday after suffering or 3 days with some very painful infection around my nail/cuticle. This morning I woke up cured with only the skin a bit dry.

What a remedy and what a wonderful site. Thank you EC.
