Grapefruit Seed Extract: Amazing Health Benefits

Scalp Fungus

I had recurring problems with scalp fungus. It wasn't too bad in summer, when I was out in the sun and swimming in salt water, but come late fall and winter I would get large pieces of scalp flaking off and my hair would be greasy. My hair was thinning out and my scalp was itchy.

I tried GSE (grapefruit seed extract) by putting a few drops in my shampoo. I mixed them together in the palm of my hand each time I shampooed, which was every other day.I left the lather in for two minutes or so. The results were immediate, now I just have a slight touch of dandruff, no itch and my hair seems to be getting a little thicker. My hair and scalp definitely look better as well.

I use to brush with GSE straight, on a wet toothbrush, until I was informed that it is very acidic and should not be used straight on the teeth. I was having a bit of a toothache with jaw pain just a few minutes ago and tried it with the toothpaste, as Andrea does, and it worked instantly, plus my mouth doesn't burn at all.

Andrea, thanks for posting!

Candida

I had a very bad case of Candida last winter. It was extremely harsh. My crotch and butt were itchy and sometimes burned, my mood was agitated, I was suffering from insomnia. To finally get rid of the ailment, I went on a sugar-free diet and took some medication from my doctor. This was great. It killed all the candida within days. My problem then became a severe flu, as my body was not getting rid of the dead candida fast enough. My body was basically experiencing toxic shock. I took tons of fiber, drank gallons of water over several days. This finally made me feel better. Now, I just take Grapefruit seed extract in water every few days to keep the candida at bay. It is very effective at eliminating candida after it has set in as well, but you should take a diuretic to get the dead candida out of you. For candida, take 5-6 drops of GSE in 20oz of water. Drink in one sitting. Do this once each day for 3 days. May cause heartburn. If so, water down the dosage or use fewer drops (3-4).

A Sea Salt Flush would be beneficial in removing the dead Candida. I do this along with an olive oil cleanse, which I do the night before.

Olive Oil Cleanse:

When you binge on foods like junk food, fast food, heavy non-vegetarian food and processed food you are likely to feel heavy and face problems like constipation, weight gain, heartburn, gas and bloating, tiredness, and encounter hair and skin problems too. Not only this, eating this kind of food leads to a blocked colon, which is harmful to your liver. For this you need to detoxify your system on regular basis, which is not only necessary but also crucial. If you encounter any of the problems or a combination of the problems listed below, you should seriously think about detoxifying your system:

• persistent headaches, constipation, bulging stomach, powerful food cravings, problematic skin, metallic taste in mouth, tiredness and lethargy, acidity and gas, weight gain, uneven digestion, irritation and mood swings, awful breath, stinking stools.

There are a wide range of methods to cleanse your body such as dieting, drinking cleansing drinks and even medical methods. But of all these methods, the olive oil cleanse is simplest of all. Regular use of the method helps you overcome the problems mentioned above. Olive oil is oily and lubricating. It lubricates the internal system and thus helps in easy motions further regulates our bowel movement. It is advisable to take olive oil twice a day in the morning and at night, but only once a week. If you take it every day, it can lead to loose motions or diarrhea. This helps to flush out the harmful toxins stored in our body, thus cleansing our liver. On the day that you choose to detoxify your system, there should be no eating after 4:00 PM. Late in the evening at around 10:30 PM mix ¾-cup of grapefruit juice with ½-cup of olive oil, stir and put aside for half an hour. After half an hour drink this mixture and go to bed instantly. Next morning, help yourself by doing a sea salt water flush and to balance this have a glass full of fiber drink. This is the efficient way to cleanse your body.

Be sure to do the sea salt cleanse immediately after waking up on an empty stomach. Also, after drinking the water and salt mixture, drink a lot of bottled water in order to help to get the flushing process going. Within 30 to 60 minutes you will have the desired results. It is best to stay very close to a bathroom and have at least a roll of toilet paper on hand. Don't make any plans to be out and about on this morning, as it will take 2 to 3 hours before the bowel movements dissipate.

Afterward I drank orange juice and ate a banana to replace lost Potassium. I also ate yogurt to replace healthy flora.

DO NOT eat a prepared meal that has MSG in it that day as the salt and MSG could cause your blood pressure to shoot up. Stay completely away from anything with MSG in it.

Note:

The times can be changed according to your work schedule. I had my last light meal consisting of a large baby spinach salad at 5:30 and drank the grapefruit juice/olive oil combination at 9:45 PM. Olive Oil is extracted from olive fruit and primarily has 3 main acids that are oleic, palmitic and fatty. It not only has low amount of saturated fats but also serves as an antioxidant and is rich in medicinal uses.

To cleanse the entire internal body system, even gallbladder and liver, doctors usually recommend this technique. Intake of olive oil helps to prevent asthma, gallstones and lethargy. To look slim, perfect and confident, you are just a few steps away. Olive, rich in fiber content, helps to cleanse your internal system and also prevents you from health hazards like asthma, gas, acidity, etc. Caused by unhealthy eating habits.

Avoiding bitter taste of grapefruit seed extract

Years ago I took so much GSE that I purchased it by the quart. That was before the prices increased. My best advice to anyone who takes it orally is this: fill a 00 gelatin capsule with as may drops as you need and swallow with lots of water. No bitter taste, provided you swallow quickly, before the capsule starts to melt!

That is not in all GSE. It has been removed from most GSE. All one has to do is read the bottle.

My son had a wart and I put Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) on it and bandaged it and changed the bandage and sprayed it with Colloidal Silver every other day. 1 week later wart dried up and fell off in the shower. After reading some posts about face washing I am going to try washing my face with it and am anticipating great results.

Grapefruit Seed Extract is excellent treatment for the following:
1. Diverticulitis: Mix 2-3 oz orange juice with 6-15 drops of GSE at the first sign of pain or dull ache, and continue 2-3 times a day until the danger goes away.

2. Any sign of illness: same as above.

3. Sore Throat: Same as above, but gargle it in your throat before swallowing.

4. Bleeding Gums: Place 6 drops of GSE in the reservoir of a water pik, along with an ounce of Hydrogen Peroxide. Fill the reservoir with warm tap water and use the water pik as directed on package.

5. Acne and any minor wounds: place one drop of GSE in the palm of your hand, and one drop of tap water. Mix it up with your finger, and rub onto the wound. This reverses the progress of infection and inflamation. Overnight success!

Yea for the grapefruit seed extract. I've been having a disgusting nasal odor, almost like poop or rubbish, that was so bad that I dreaded going out in public because people could smell it even if they weren't right next to me. Riding in cars was torture for me and others because the smell would fill up the car within 1 minute. Anyway I tried alot of things- antibiotics, nose creams, irrigating my nasal passages with water and combining some things: tea tree oil/acv/salt/baking soda/iodine. Nothing worked. I assume I had an infection up there even though I had no real pain or discomfort, just post nasal drip and that odor that even I couldnt stand. Anyway as a last resort I ordered GSE, it arrived at work this morning and I went to the bathroom immediately to irrigate my sinuses with it (a few drops in a cup of water) and the relief seemed almost immediate- the people in my office stopped coughing and sniffing (the odor was that bad! ) and I can't smell it anymore. My nose has been running the whole day which is a good thing because all that yuck is coming out. I'm blowing my nose every 30 seconds. I plan to do this irrigation for a full week to make sure no bacteria/fungi survive then maybe I'll irrigate with probiotic powder for another week to replace the good bacteria. As a side note, I'm also on an anti-candida diet, and on the following supplements: quercitin, vitamin C, fish oil, fulvic acid and s salivarius probiotics. So hopefully the fungus/bad bacteria won't ever have a change to grow back. But I never got relief from the nose odor until GSE. (If the nose odor comes back I will come back to report, otherwise assume that the GSE nailed it. )Now if someone could tell me a cure that works for bad breath from the MOUTH, I'd be the happiest person alive!

Grapefruit seed extract cured the flu

I felt the flu coming on pretty bad on Saturday around 2pm. I knew I needed to take something right away to catch it quickly. I took 15 drops of GSE in 4 oz of orange juice that evening. By then I had a fever and diarrhea. 1/2 hour later I took about 1 tsp. of ACV in 8oz h2o and went to bed at 8pm. I woke up at 2am and 8 with diarrhea, when I woke up at 2pm felt much better! Took another 15 drops GSE in 4 oz OJ and more ACV in h2o. Was symptom free from that time on! Took another round of GSE next morning to be safe!

Yeast Infections

Grapefruit Seed Extract is an awesome product that I came to discover when I developed a terrible yeast infection from taking 2 rounds of antibiotics in one year, about 5 years ago. My docs could not even diagnose it, because it was what I would call "atypical yeast" -- not the typical symptoms, but rather an intense irritation and burning on the outside skin of my genitals. Anyway, I finally figured out that's what it was and went looking for natural treatments. BTW: you can do a search on GSE on the web and there are several websites that sell it, AND give VERY specific instructions on how to take it. But this is what I did: 10 drops GSE (in a empty capsule) 3 times/daily. (Be prepared to experience "detox" symptoms -- but mine were just a runny nose and a little headache). You could also douche with 5 drops/quart water. That is also recommended -- I did not, because my problem wasn't in my vagina, but on the outside. Since then, though, I have had "flare ups" with it again (got reinfected from my husband, actually, I think), and have used the douche - it gives almost instant relief -- a few times will almost cure it. But continue to use it -- I used it (decreased to 2x daily and then 1x daily) for months, for fear it it coming back. You can use it long-term without worring about it killing the good bacteria (or so they say), but I used a pro-biotic along with it (once/daily - spaced out 2 hrs between - very important!) You do not want to kill the good bacteria with the GSE... too expensive to do that! :o) Hope this helps! Oh! and the pet thing -- you can put it in their drinking water -- it is bitter so it may be difficult. But just give it maybe 2-3 drops and do it long-term... hopefully that will work. GSE has powerful anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. I have used it for many applications, after reading all that you could use it for on a website. It really is amazing. Hope this helps you guys!

WARNING!

I just wanted to remind people to follow the directions and make sure to dilute this product so that you do not make the mistake that I made.

I had a slight pain in my tooth and thought that gargling with some GFSE would make me feel better. I placed about 15 drops into some water and gargled without incident.

Then I got the bright idea to place a few drops directly onto the tooth. What a mistake!! The undiluted drops quickly made my mouth water, and then the mixture of drops and saliva kind of made its way under my tongue. I spit it out, but the damage was already done. Within that few minutes I had managed to bascially give myself a chemical burn to the soft fleshy area under my tongue.

The pain was so bad that I cannot even describe it. It kind of felt as though I had chards of broken glass under my tongue. I felt miserable. Then the next day the area under my tongue was kind of swollen, and it felt like I had something stuck in my throat.

Needless to say, eating has been difficult. I'm sure that within a week or so I will feel better. The body has the amazing capacity to heal itself even after we do unwise things to it.

GFSE is great, but make sure that you always dilute it. I don't want anyone else messing up their mouth the way that I did.

After taking Grapefruit Seed Extract for two days my perioral dermatitis (that i have battled with for two years) disappeared.....and i mean gone !!! I almost couldn't believe it myself but i am keen to share this "miracle" cure with other people suffering similar skin conditions. Take orally in 250ml of water , 8-10 drops of the oil twice daily. I had no luck with the ACV for my skin but grapefruit seed extract did the trick !!!

Diverticulitis

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE), Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), and digestive enzymes have helped me ward off diverticulitis attacks. From the moment I feel the slightest pain or pressure, I drink this tiny tonic 2-3 x a day: 12 drops GSE in 1-2 ounces of any citrus juice. During this time, I also alternate an ACV tonic 2-3 x day: 2 tsp organic ACV w/ mother in 3 oz cold water, chasing it with a few ounces of plain cold water. I also take digestive enzymes to avoid diverticulitis problems. These are sold almost anywhere. My first attack landed me in the emergency room a year ago, so I am afraid of that excruciating pain again! In my humble opinion, the key to avoiding attacks is: stay regular (fresh fruits & veggies, fiber, exercise...), don't over-eat, take ACV tonics & digestive enzymes daily. I prefer to save the GSE for when I really need it since it is an antibiotic.

I originally bought GSE for my husband's feet, he has plantar faciitis. We haven't seen much difference in his feet, but I take 7 drops moring and evening in a half glass of water. I have suffered chronic hard stool for several years. I'm going to be frank, I would have one BM a day and my stool was rocky and light in color. Since starting GSE about a week ago I am now having two BMs a day and the color is a normal brown. Now, if it would just do something for my acid reflux.

Awhh! For future reference keep pure aloe juice in the house because it works on burns very well. For me it's a kitchen essential being that I'm always burning myself. Also good for stomach problems, colds and toner for skin! =]

As far as the grapefruit seed extract, try the pills and they are effective. Keep the liquid for topical use if need be!

I have purchase them from puritan pride and the vitamin shopp. 125mg is about 12-15 drops worth of the liquid.

THE FIRST THING ABOUT GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT "GSE" you should know is yes, it is very acidic, so it should be diluted when taking it orally,

I have been using GSE for around 9 years now and was introduced to it by my friend when I was working on cruise ships. there was a flu bug of some kind going around or a parasite, and every time I ate I felt ill for about 2-3 hrs and felt generally unwell, after a few days of doctors remedies doing nothing I decided to give it a try, I took 15 drops 2x a day mixed in juice or water, (eventually I learned how to hold some water in my mouth and drip the GSE in the water and swallow quickly).... after about 3 days the symptoms subsided but I stayed on this regimen for 2 weeks, about a month later the other crew members were still suffering with those symptoms but mine never returned.

I also use it for keeping colds and stomach bugs at bay, like I said when you feel the symptoms start taking it right away, I am a big guy 225lbs at 6'2" so I usually ingest 20 drops 2x a day when I start to feel ill. Of course I will still get colds sometimes it works and I don't (it's not magic) ... but I do notice I am better much quicker than everyone else.

As for the mouth .. yes no more than 1-3 drops MAX on a toothbrush mixed with your toothpaste, 3 drops is the extreme and a lot of toothpaste is necessary, DO not overbrush it won't help.... rinse well after... Enjoy GSE try it for many things and be careful... I am NOT a doctor these are just personal experiences I am sharing, do your research and consult Naturopaths if neccessary... and see a GP if you have serious conditions.... Thank you, Dave

For Pavla - I buy my GSE from Amazon - both tablets and liquid. The brand is Nutribiotic, and we use the 250mg tablets, one twice a day for most minor ailments. The liquid is trickier since you have to ensure that it contains Citricidal to be useful - only the Nutribiotic Maximum liquid contains Citricidal. I use the liquid to stop oncoming sinus infections.

What I do is: 1 drop GSE in 2 fluid ounces of distilled water (I boil water for 5 minutes, then pour into a mason jar, cover and let cool before screwing the lid on).

Use one full eye dropper of the mixed solution per nostril. Do this over the sink - Tilt your head back and release half the solution from the dropper into your right nostril and the rest in your left. Swing your head forward and down (head is now upside down) to force solution up into nasal passages. Return head to the normal upright position and allow nasal passages to drain.

Do not inhale through the nose during this process. Don't forget to always, always dilute!!!

Citricidal = 60% grapefruit seed extract and 40% vegetable glycerin. The above is what is stated in Nutribiotic, Maximum GSE Liquid Concentrate 'Citricidal' is a certain strength of GSE (60%), mixed with 40% glycerin. That's what it clearly indicates in the Description of it, on the company website: Https://www.nutribiotic.com/maximum-gse-liquid-concentrate.html

ON THE OTHER HAND ... NutriBiotic Vegan Grapefruit Seed Extract Liquid Concentrate contains a lesser percentage of GSE: Grapefruit Seed Extract 33%. -and- vegetable glycerine (67%). Https://www.nutribiotic.com/gse-liquid-concentrate-2oz.html.

BOTH products DO contain Grapefruit Seed Extract! One is stronger than the other. The lesser strength is what I purchase to use with small children & small animals, because they are to receive no more than one drop of it per serving ... and if I were to use the stronger strength, I would have to divide a drop of it each time I want to use it for them!

I went straight to your site and read the grapefruit seed extract cure. They should change the name to bitter fruit, but it has worked. It's awful but within an hour I felt 80% better. By evening I felt 98% better. I can tell it is still there, in hiding, so I will do it 2-3 days like it is suggested. My God, everything is so complicated to the point that one doesn't know anymore what is healthy and what is not! I took Grapefruit seed exctract for a while thinking that it was a great thing..... The thing is that other than the name seems to show grapefruit seed exctract is not only made from the seeds but from the whole pulp. Still.... I have a book about it and it doesn't mention anything about liver enzymes. As far as cloves go I also thought that they were great for example to rid your mouth of bacteria. Lately I got used to much on one or two at a time once in a while and yes, my mouth felt very clean afterwards. I had no idea that there could be side effects..... I also use a few drops of clove oil once in awhile with OP. Again... Never heard of liver enzyme inhibition! Sometimes I despair.... The more I try to learn the more I come to the conclusion that I don't know anything and that more or less everything can be bad for you!

I think it invariably circles back around to a matter of balance and trusting one's own experience and "intuition. " Something from nature that is clearly beneficial in certain amounts and duration of use, but harmful in larger amounts, is trying to teach us about that all-important balance. Look at our world, we do tend to go to extremes. I think it's generally good to try to wean ourselves off of anything we feel compelled to rigidly use every single day. Focus on giving the body the rest, the change/variety and moderation it seems to very much need. But I think the ultimate in obtaining and maintaining health is to learn to trust one's own experience and choices (as well as tending to emotional stuff, inner issues). I do best when I study up on the facts, try to release all the freaky frazzled fear (ha) by getting still and asking myself if something is right for me. If it "feels" right, I try to trust that, and then observe my experience with it, and then apply that balance thing above. Our extreme dependence on the all-mighty docs all these years has stunted our growth in that "trusting ourselves" thing. And I think that's one of the reasons for our long journey to healing--not just to get healthy, but to learn to do that. We "don't need no stinkin'" docs ;)

Hi Ds, I am as confused as you are, don't worry! It is true that begining of this year I had high liver enzymes. After that I took GSE for a while, 10 drops a day, without knowing of any connection with liver enzymes. A short while ago I went to the doctor and my liver enzymes were good. Will it have made a difference? I noticed that GSE calmed my sinuses. According to a book I have on the subject it is a great supplement. I read some bad things on the Internet but I asked the lady in the pharmacy and she told me that a friend of hers, a biologist, told her that if she could only take one thing to a deserted island she should take GSE. That is when I started to take it. I finished the first bottle, stopped for a while and was intending to take another bottle in a while.

But well, this seems to go on and on, no one seems to know exactly what is good for what, it is complete chaos! One says drink more wine, another says don't drink any wine, another says drink a lot of water, or eat a lot of fibers, or a lot of whole cereals, another one says not at all.... Eat fat, don't eat fat, eat fruit, don't eat fruit... What kills you today seems to save you tomorrow but will kill you again the next day! Funny that our ancestors knew a lot of stuff without researchers and they were sure about what they did!

I recommend putting like 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract in a spray bottle of very warm water, shake it up and spray any hard surfaces. It is great for sterilizing make up brushes and utensils, etc. you can put it in your laundry too.

I put grapefruit seed extract dilluted with warm damp cotton pad.

Today I used 6 drops GSE with spoonful coconut oil and a capsule of activated charcoal on a flat cotton pad and taped it to my neck on what I thought was a spider bite, but the level of itchiness has me mega concerned and additional bumps around it. I'm catching it VERY early, so I will continue this until its gone. I recommend this combo for your grandma's knee. Do it everyday until its gone. Change it often

Green tea completely eliminates the bitterness of gse. While vacationing in Mazatlan I put 7 drops of gse into our green tea w/honey after eating out and my husband who thought I had ruined his tea was shocked when he drank it and couldn't even taste the gse.

I saw this helpful and informative post. Can you give a link where you purchased yours from?
I have been in agony for almost a week and my GSE doesn't seem to be working. Many thanks in advance.

Grapefruit seed extract is NOT entirely natural. There's a hidden ingredient that is toxic...Before balking and saying I'm wrong, look it up for yourself. Other forums are talking about it.

Just google "grapefruit seed extract is not natural it is toxic" to find the evidence you need. Most people who find this out stop using it immediately.

WARNING!

I don't want to scare everyone with a warning but this is something to be made aware of when taking GrapeFruit Seed Extract. It also explains why it may work or not work.

I was looking to see what the active ingredient in grapefruit seed extract is and I came across this.

"But a new review published in the American Botanical Council (ABC) journal HerbalGram claims that many, if not most, GFSE products on the market today contain synthetic preservatives, microbicides and disinfectants that are not necessarily listed on their labels.

The idea behind GFSE is that it contains natural antimicrobial, antiseptic and alkalizing properties that render it highly beneficial in a variety of clinical applications. Many GFSE users who take it internally say it has helped eliminate chronic infection, clear up colds and sinus infections, and even cure candida and other yeast and fungal overgrowths inside the body.

But the new review, compiled by Dr. John H. Cardellina, Ph.D., a natural product, organic, medicinal and analytical chemist, suggests that most commercially-available GFSE products contain synthetic chemical components that are the true active ingredients. Actual grapefruit seed extract, suggests the review, does not contain antimicrobial properties, and is not the ingredient responsible for the beneficial effects that users experience."

I have heard people say it contains toxins so one shouldn't take it too long. Now I understand just what that really means.

I did limit my intake to 1 week due to the warning of toxicity. Understand that we eat toxins every day from the foods we eat. There are toxins in Aloe Vera juice. This is why I can't take the juice. It doesn't stop people from raving about the wonderful benefits of the juice. I am more sensitive while others are not.

There are toxins within the herb Uvi Ursa that I took to knock out a idiopathic bladder infection in short time. I would take it in a heart beat again. So we need to put toxins in perspective. It comes down to making sure it doesn't build up in the system too long. A week is a reasonable amount of time to try it.

"It was discovered that the ethanol-extracted GFSE contained no antimicrobial chemicals, while many of the commercial GFSE products contained some or all of them."

This may be why it may work for some people and not others.

"In a 2007 study the main synthetic antimicrobial agent identified in commercial GSE samples was benzethonium chloride"

I would think you would have to look for a non ethanol extracted GSE.

Citrus oils like grapefruit are made from the rinds of the fruit.?Grapefruit seed extract is from the seed of the fruit.?Big difference, and depends on what your goals on using one/either are.?I've been successfully using essential oils for years.

Courtney I have just read my post and it sounds harsh so my apologies for that. The regulations that our governments want to bring in are not going to help us to make our own free choice as the regulations will limit small makers of products. In Australia you buy supplements and we don't even know what added ingredients are in them. It is the same with food if the ingredient is less than 5% and not a know common allergen then it does not have to be listed. The only regulation I would like to see is all the ingredients listed so we know what we a taking into our bodies and puting on our skin, which after rereading your post I think that is what you are talking about also. Sorry for my overreaction.
