Grapefruit Juice and Meds

Yes it does and sometimes fatal interactions. People on statin drugs for blood pressure need to avoid drinking grapefruit juice. The number of drugs and types of drugs grapefruit juice negatively impacts are so many you need to go here to learn about that:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit_drug_interactions

Yes, I have read about all of grapefruits health benefits, But if you are taking any of these medications, it`s impact can be fatal. That list includes many pain remedies and tranquilizers. Most doctors do not know about this. There are other websites that state the list of drugs so effected is growing at an alarming rate. No one knew about this until a few years ago....Oscar

I don't know if most or all Medications come w/ this warning, but it is ALWAYS advised to read the "drug indications and warnings" before medicating.

Also, the Histamine 2 Antagonist drugs used for acid reducing like Zantac, Pepcid, and Tagamet have similar effect on Liver P450 detox enzymes, that is they INHIBIT.

The inhibitory effect of these substances on drug metabolism and detoxification causes the medication to remain in the bloodstream for much longer period of time, which also raises the level of medication. This is how the overdose occurs.

More on taking prescription medications with grapefruit (or other citrus) juices, I received one of my alternative health newsletters with the following information:

Grapefruit poses a potentially lethal health risk to more and more patients taking prescription drugs. The fruit contains chemicals called furanocoumarins that can interact with certain drugs, blocking their breakdown and so making them more potent. Adverse effects can include acute kidney failure, respiratory failure, internal bleeding and sudden death.

While it is well known that some patients should avoid grapefruit, or grapefruit juice, the list of drugs involved has risen sharply in recent years. More than 85 current drugs can interact with grapefruit, and of these 43 can have serious side effects, according to scientists writing in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

Timh is right - find out about any interactions for your medications. Do as much research as you possibly can.

If you take an antibiotic for a tooth abscess is it harmful to take dry mustard for constipation? Can they be spaced about 1/2 hr. apart? Could there be some kind of conflict because someone posted they took the mustard as an alternative to antibiotics.

I would like feedback on what viewers consider the 3-4 most important daily natural routines they are doing. I am currently oil pulling with sunflower oil in the morning. I follow with 2 teaspoonfuls of in the mother ACV with 4 oz. of Aloe Vera. I cook with and add coconut oil on bread and just ingest some throughout the day. All this is used as a preventative. Any help on routines with quantities would be most appreciated.

Hi Jim, I take Chinese herbs on a regular daily basis and have seen the greatest improvement in my health from those. I also take lypospheric vitamin c almost daily which is amazing. The herbs are adaptogenic so I can take those everyday to build my chi and immune system. I also drink fresh green juice every morning and eat some fermented foods and/or drinks daily.

Outside of that, I change things up on a regular basis as I think the body gets used to the same thing. I will switch it up with ACV, baking soda, sea salt, sodium thiosulphate, coconut oil, etc. The list goes on and on but just like food as medicine, you don't want the same thing everyday, day in and day out. I might do three days or a week of something and then change it up.

Anyway, that's my two cents! Wishing you the best of health, Lisa

I was just diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, acid reflux and gastritis. Waiting on biopsy results. Saw on this site the Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda regimen to use for acid reflux and I want to try it but I will be starting Aciphex tonight. Can I do the regimen WITH being on the meds?

Apple Cider Vinegar, H2O2
Posted by Susan (Blacksburg, Va, Usa ) on 10/03/2012

I am on the 11th day of the hydrogen peroxide therapy but would like to try the ACV diet also.... Can one do them simultaneously and if so, any specific instructions? Thank you, Susan

Apple Cider Vinegar and Medication
Posted by Sunny (Sarasota, Florida) on 09/20/2012

Some years ago I read a book written by a Vermont Dr. Jarvis. I followed the instructions to drink a mixture of apple cider, and water with my meals to help lose weight. I was very happy with the success I had.

But I have gained weight again in the past few years, and would like to try this diet again. However.. due to a heart problem, I have had surgery to place a stent in my heart, and must take Plavix (blood thinner) as well as 1 aspirin per day.

What I would like to know is if including the ACV back into my diet be safe along with the plavix, and asprin?

Thank You. With much appreciation, Sunny

I also take hypertension tablets (enalapril and bendrofluthiazide) and take bisoprolol as apparently I have a diastolic dysfunction. Does anyone know if there are any contraindications of taking ACV with the tablets I am on? Rather not see Dr about knee pain as suspect will then be on jabs of some sort or other and tired of Hospitals!!

Borax, Lemon Water
Posted by Emmet (Alice, Tx) on 08/31/2012

Hi Ted, I was just wondering can I mix the borax with my litre of lemon-water? I was afraid it may interact with it. The lemon water is supposed to be alkalizing and it would make it both easier to drink and allow me to do two things at once. I usually drink lemon-water throughout the day anyway.

I have had chronic herpes for over 12 years and have tried so many treatments. Today I take 2 x 200mg Acyclovil everyday. I am now going to try Red Algae. My question is "should I continue with Acyclovil as well?" peace

Sodium Thiosulfate
Posted by Anonymous (Anonymous) on 08/01/2012

I made some 10% sodium thiosulfate in a glass eye dropper bottle, after six months, the solution got cloudy and oily feeling, is this natural?

Also to purify water is it ok to mix 10% ST, borax AND hydrogen peroxide? I want to remove the impurities, esp chlorine and fluoride.

Or would ST and borax be enough or is H2O2 enough?

And if we need so much iodine can we just use that in drinking water all day? Or it is too bad tasting? Thank you.

Fulvic Acid, H2O2, Baking Soda
Posted by Stella (New York) on 07/26/2012

I read a post where someone questioned the combination of fulvic acid, H2O2 and baking soda. Apparently Ted supports this combination but I cant find the info anywhere on EC after tons of searching. Im already doing the baking soda and water remedy to alkalize. I've recently started the fulvic acid and it causes my ph to dip to 5 whereas the baking soda and water keep it around 7, sometimes 8. My fulvic acid comes in drops, from a reputable organic creator. I take 7-12 drops in 16oz of water. I have intestinal issues and feel the oxygen, alkaline and fulvic would be great.

Does anyone have any info on how to combine these 3 things and still reap the benefits of all? How many days a week should they be taken? How many days off? I intend to alternate days with borax and oil pulling for hormonal balance and toxin removal...

Any suggestions?....

Chlorella, Urine Therapy
Posted by Coffee (Oaxaca, Mexico) on 06/18/2012

Hello, I have been taking chlorella for 4 months now and I used to smoke. No more than 5 or 6 cigarettes a day for five years for two periods of my life. 18-23 and 28-33. I have quit and am curious, as chorella is meant to rid the body of the heavy metals contained in cigarettes. I can't ask earthclinic to verify the claims that chlorella is useful for that purpose but assuming it is, would urine therapy be safe during the time I am consuming chlorella? I am taking about 30 grams of chlorella daily and was drinking my urine quite regularly til about midday and just wanted to be sure. Thank you kindly for your help, Coffee

H2O2, Juices
Posted by Michal (Winfield, Il) on 06/15/2012

Hi, I believe I have systemic candida b/c I have (coated tongue, numerous yeast infections etc. ) and had some dental implants and was prescribed antibiotics. What juices, aside from Aloe Vera, can be mixed with H202. There seems to be vitamin C in most juices. I have a wheatgrass juicer that also juices vegetables and I've done carrot juice with it but I avoided wheatgrass w/H2O2 b/c of Vitamin C. I also put it in coconut water.
