oil pulling- began about 1st week of October. My sleep better, skin is getting softer, less mood swings, lots of laughter, better outlook on life, lost weight. I used sesame oil, some days with sunflower, now have been using coconut oil and seem to have less problems with swallowing this oil than the others. My husband has been doing this as well and is seeing lots of areas of improvment- he's a disabled combat veteran, full of agent orange-we both plan on continuing to OP and keep a record of improvements while we keep up our nutrient dense eating choices as well.

I thought the article said: Don't swallow the oil, swish and spit it out after the alloted time...brush again.

I have read from many references that it is best to use cold pressed sesame oil or sunflower oil. Though we haven't tried sunflower oil (possibly due to most in my family are genetically not comfortable with the smell) we have also tried virgin coconut oil and they both do the job - without side effects. Hope this helps!

I have been oil pulling two times a day for about a month now and notice a vast improvement in my gums. I have had 2 root canals and at my last dental visit, they wanted to do a 3rd root canal to correct the previous two. Needless to say, I had severe gum pain and an abscess that caused me excrutiating pain. My jaw would swell up to the size of chipmuck's. I was in constant pain. I started oil pulling with sunflower oil and notice that my pain had decreased in intensity by day 3. Within 7 days, I had no pain and my abscess was completely gone. I ran out of sunflower oil and am now using extra virgin coconut oil. My gums are a healthy pink--they are no longer receding. I had a loosened tooth that really needed to be pulled but the gums have tightened around the tooth and it is no longer loose. My skin feels softer and I'm no longer plagued with earaches. I tried oil pulling with Olive Oil but could not stand the taste. Once I finish up my coconut oil, I will go back to sunflower (it is a better tasting oil).

I've been oil pulling for almost two weeks. It's not as bad as some readers let on. I first tried with VCO and a drop of peppermint oil since I didn't have sesame or sunflower oil on hand. It tasted like a peppermint patty. I've also tried with cold pressed virgin olive oil.. not bad, but not tasty either. So far I can only report that my teeth look whiter and brighter and I THINK it cooled my PMS rage as well as lightened my flow. Sorry TMI. Today I bought sesame oil and tasted it wondering if it's supposed to taste like toasted sesame seeds? Did I get the wrong type of oil? The store where I picked it up had so MANY brands and types of sesame oil... black sesame oil, pure sesame oil, flavored sesame oils. I picked up a bottle that says 100% pure since I didn't think I wanted the toasted stuff. If this oil is toasted, will it still be effective for oil pulling?

Another thing I was wondering... what healing crisis have others experienced with oil pulling? I got a really bad throat infection/cold and I rarely sick or feel ill for more than a day. Could this be the healing crisis for me? I was going to skip pulling this morning since I'm still sick, then decided to do it anyway... a word of caution... be careful when pulling with a cold. I made a mess when I had a sudden sneeze RIGHT before I was about to spit the oil out. DISGUSTING.

I have been doing the oil pulling for three days and have seen increasing improvement in teeth whitening as well as gums are no longer bleeding. I also have my husband swishing and a few friends and we are excited and waiting for results to report back. I love your website and find the information most informative and hopeful.

I have been doing this procedure, oil pulling for two days. So far so good. However, I'm curious about a few things.... Why are we instructed to swish SLOWLY (what if we swished fast)? Why do we have to wait 4hours after eating or 1hours after drinking before we can do an oil pulling (and what if we didn't)?

Hi Kendra. I think the reason why we need to pull slowly is because there is more pressure when you pull slow. Also you need to do it 20 mins so doing it fast will be strenuous to the mouth muscles and you will tire easier and not perform the pull properly. As for the 4 hours and 1 hour it's because it is better to detox the organs when "empty". Hope this helps.

I learned of Oil Pulling several months ago. Immediately my teeth became whiter. My mouth and teeth feel amazingly clean. My receding gums have started growing back and my teeth feel tighter or more secure. I have found switching back and fourth between different oils keeps my teeth their whitest. Sesame oil is my favorite. Olive oil gives the most dramatic results. I have also used Coconut oil. This is so easy and inexpensive! I plan to OP for life.

I have been pulling since july 06 with sesame and safflower oils. I just love the sesame because it tastes like halvah to me. My skin on the top of my right foot was covered with eczema and it was itchy and inflamed constantly. It is still discoloured from all the abuse it received from me. The wonderful result though is the inflamation has subsided. I am noticing new skin growing back slowly. It is thrilling to know that this harmless protocol is helping this painful debilitating disease that orthodox meds cannot heal. Peace and Health to all.

Wow! Have only done this twice so far. I only did it to help support my husband who has been suffering from recurring boils in his ears. I said I would do this if he would. I didn't actually have a major problem with my nose. An annoying drip at times and as there is a lot of pollen around at present it has been a little clogged but nothing serious or even annoying. This morning I had to spit the oil out & start again as there was so much mucus draining down the back of my throat from my nose I was almost sick from the tickling & not swallowing. After using the salt/soda water up the nostrils, my nose is much clearer. The mucus from one side was quite yellow. I can breathe easily and have no drip. My husband's boil burst of its own accord with less pain than previous boils. The worst experience he had was with one in his finger and one underchis arm at the same time. He had antibiotics. It took a long time to clear and he has had several in his ears since then so we have decided to give this a go & see if it clears the toxins out faster and with less pain. He also took turmeric in warm water and this relieved the pain almost immediately. I'll let you know if the boils disappear completely.

WARNING!

This follows the last email that I wrote. I use mostly cold pressed olive oil but I have seen people who can't stand the oil in their mouths use pure water and it turns white as well. I don't have scientific reasearch to back it up but any oil I have used works for me. One other caution is that if someone is really toxic, five min can be enough or the toxins will burn the mouth. Once I forgot and swished for about 40 min and ended up with mouth sores for about a week as the toxins burned my mouth. I now set a timer that I carry around with me as to not go over twenty min.

I found that my tongue felt amazing after the first time. It was pink and CLEAN. no matter how much I scrub with my toothbrush my tongue never seems to feel that clean. As well I found that the skin on my face was softer and smoother, my pores were smaller. I was afraid that I would breakout in "Adult acne" but i didn't!!!!! As far as all my other ailments, the jury is still out. Stacey

We have a group of people doing this procedure on curezone.com

http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738

also www.oilpulling.com has info

There isn't a lot of information on it, in english anyway. It's excellent for dental health with results within days if not hours. It's truly amazing!!! One lady had 3 #9 pockets plus numerous 8, 7, 6 and 5s. After Oil Pulling for 5 minutes a day for two months, she went to the dentist with 2 #7 pockets at worst.

I've been doing it for a few months now. I had gone to the dentist because of problems with a couple deep pockets. He was going to send me to a periodontist for possle surgery. Then I found out about oil pulling. I had posted on the dental forum at curezone and someone mentioned the oil pulling. After a couple days of doing it my gums felt much better. Now after about 3 months my gums are so much better, my teeth are markedly whiter, my mouth feels clean and gums healthy. My cracked heels are almost cured as well (go figure that). I have less aches and pains. It used to be difficult climbing the stairs and getting up my feet would hurt, but I feel much better all around. It's a crazy thing to do but it's fantastic. It's so simple and inexpensive. I use refined expeller pressed (Hain brand) sunflower oil. I also started adding a few drops of oil of oregano, which has anti bacterial properties. Check us out at curezone! Kitty

I was wondering if it was common for others to swish with oil for 20 min or more and not have the oil turn white. I have tried both 1tbl sesame ond 1tbl olive and they still come back out close to their origional color. I have tried twice with each oil and always get the same result. Any suggestions would help! Thanks! Heather

My comment is for Heather from Medford, Oregon in regards to Oil Pulling for 20 mins. I started Oil Pulling the first week in January this year. I have to pull for half an hour for the oil to turn white. I have used Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil and Sesame Oil in that order. I also use less than a tablespoon of oil as I find my mouth fills up with saliva after about 10 minutes so less is better for me. Maureen

I was fortunate to find out about Dr Karach's oil pulling therapy over 16 years ago, and my objective was to improve my immune system, as a preventative. And it certainly has done so, for example, the number of colds has gone down a lot. Plus, my digestion has improved very much. Also, I can go on for more hours without feeling the need to eat.

I mostly use sesame oil, peanut oil, and sunflower oil: Once per day, one table spoon in the morning, before breakfast, 5-7 days a week. I have found that it's very important to rinse the oral cavity and tonge with baking soda/salt in warm water, and brush all of the same area - including the tongue, after applying just a little baking soda and salt on the toothbrush.

Basically, my opinion is that oil pulling is one of the very best ways to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities, and that includes detoxification. 15-20 minutes in the morning of oil pulling regularly, while taking a shower or shaving or ... - is one of the wisest things we could to, healthwise.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I have been oil pulling with sesame oil and have notice great improvements in the health of my gum and the teeth becoming whiter.

The only problem I have is the side effects which includes Blocked nose which is really annoying and I have to use decongestant to clear it up and feeling lethargic and weak. Although I have been doing it for many weeks but I stopped for a while and when I started again I am getting the same symptoms.

Some times I do OP for more than 20 minutes or even 30 minutes, and I wonder could this be the reason for feeling ill.

Hi, I read somewhere earlier that taking apple cider vinegar in orally could help with Sinus issues. Search on sinuses and ACV and see what you find...

It's possible you are allergic to the sesame oil. That could be causing your weakness, lethargy, etc. Might try a different oil.

I read somewhere that you should detox with ACV for a week or two before beginning. I drink tons of water each day, more like a gallon or more. I started adding ACV to my water and my queestion is, is there a limit to the amount of ACV that I can have each day and still be healthy? i'm trying to begin a habit of putting in a tablespoon per 24oz. and if it is ok for me to have that much is it ok that I am doing the oil pulling at the same time? Is there a limit to ACV while oil pulling?

is there any help for tinnitus?..... Ringing of the ears?

Instructions and Theories
Posted by Faddist (Gibraltar) on 09/03/2012

My tinnitus is caused by too many heavy metals - in my case from my teeth from crowns- I am trying the pulling therapy - but so far it has not improved my tinnitus. I think it should and maybe I am not doing it for long enough.

I detox metals by juicing greens and occasional liver cleanses.

Jim from Syracuse- I have read somewhere that taking zinc helps with tinnitus although I have not had much experience using that personally. There is a great ear drop formula you can find in health food stores- grapeseed oil with a tiny bit of tea tree oil, it helped me a lot.

To Hainer: You could be allergic to sesame seeds and hence, sesame oil. Switch to another oil like coconut and keep switching perhaps every two weeks, until you find the one that suits you.
