Hi...I just started oil pulling. I'm 55 y.o. I am using grapeseed oil. Where would I purchase sesame oil or black cumin seed oil? I found the grapeseed oil fairly thick. Is this normal? Does the sesame oil you cook with differ from the sesame oil that you pull with. Appreciate your feedback...Tyvm

I was looking around at Mercola's house this morning and happened upon an article concering pathogens in the mouth that can cause problems else where in the body and thought this might be of interest to the "Oil Pulling" crowd. And Mercola mentions some information on this also. Here is the link: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/03/05/oral-pathogens.aspx

Do search engine on eskimos and their white/cavity free teeth. Their diet consists of seal oil which they put on foods and whale meat/innards. The whale & seal oil is high in Omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin d, vitamin a. I would look for the oil that is highest with these 3 for oil pulling-cod liver oil? The whale meat is probably chewed for a long time, and releases oil in the mouth, much like the oil pulling style, but more macular. When you look up the history of oil pulling it gives credit to india and asia going back 3000 years. It says nothing about any credit going to eskimos who go back at least 6000 years!!

Yes of course you should drink ACV - after you've OP'd of course. That will only help your cause immensely. Stick with the OPing as well, even if you find you're getting more headaches etc, that's the toxins leaving your body. But try other oils such as coconut, or walnut (they say that's the best one). I guess that all depends on your taste buds. Do the OPing twice a day at first, then go down to just the mornings.

Thank you for statement. Would you kindly grace the rest of us with your sources and information proving your allegation? I would certainly like to see the research . It would save me from my own experimentations with DMSO. If there is already conclusive evidence that this process works and that plain sesame oil is the best then, please stop withholding from the rest of us your sources so that your peers here can review them. Thank you.

Hey guys!!! I just discoved this site a few days ago and wow!!! This is amazing-- all these super easy amazing cures I never knew about! Anyway, I'm just wondering, if I start oil pulling, should I not brush my teeth with regular tooth paste after? Would it be better if I used something like baking soda, or should I just rinse my mouth out after? Thanks!!!

Hi, Do you have to do the oil pulling at a certain time of day or can I do it anytime as I'm not very good in the mornings. Does it have to be organic?

To Clio51 from Manchester. According to Ayurvedic books, oil pulling should be done in the early morning before drink or food with sesame oil. In twenty minutes the oil should look white when expelled. Then rinse mouth several times. The action is on all energy points on the tongue , that is why oil pulling benefits all body organs.
I have done it now for almost a year and loose teeth are firm again. Otherwise my teeth have whitened over time. Other benefits may be there as I have no other issues. Keep it up. Om

I believe that the positive, measurable results of oil pulling are due to the the physics of CAVITATION. The implosion of bubbles in liquid is a well studied phenomenon outside of the human mouth... It's considerable power will degrade a ships propeller in short order... In an ultrasonic parts cleaner it will strip tarnish from silver and filth from your jewelry. The variations in oil viscosity (sunflower vs. Olive etc.) WILL produce different cleaning or stimulative effect. Water will work as well but takes much more time as it's viscosity results in lower cavitational power. Very little mysticism here but a lot of misinformation.

Why is it emphasized to OP on an empty stomach? I had done it awhile after I ate and didn't seem to have any problem. Could I be causing harm without being aware of it?
(London , England)

That is a very good question because when I was pulling on an empty stomach I was waking with a thirst (I am 62 and I follow a very healthy lifestyle) So I started drinking filtered water and camomile tea (which I have overnight by my bed) THEN oil pulling and its still very effective!

Hi Polly, I should have "replied" to those who posted the emphasis but did not... I sometimes awaken with extreme hunger. At two in the morning I am so hungry I don't feel like OP for twenty minutes before I eat! If you have such a thirst, your acceptable table salt may be the problem. The flowing/anti-caking agent contributes to more ailments than is recognized and could be in other spices. I use a sea salt that is labeled "real" because it does not contain those agents. I thought I might be eaten up with parasites or have a tapeworm but I eat garlic and use ACV that I had read are remedies to those problems. I'm sixty-five and try to keep my weight at a hundred.

I tried OP for the first time yesterday with pure virgin olive oil. Healthy with no known disease just wanted to try it. I was only able to do it for 5 mins. My partner said my breath was terrible the rest of the day, into the night. She even claims that when we woke up the whole room smelled a little "rotten". This morning I did more research and tried again, 20 mins. I rinsed with salt water after and brushed (I did neither the day before). I read through so many post and seems no one experienced bad breath AFTER, is this strange? I could only think it must be doing something if a tiny bit of olive oil is making that big of difference. Any thoughts or suggestions, should I discontinue use?

Do not brush your teeth after Oil Pulling!!!!!! If you just use the Oil and then rinse your mouth after you will not have bad breath, if you really need to brush do so before Oil Pulling. Try using Sesame as it is the most highly recommended and best tasting(to me) my breath is great the following morning after OP the night before and no plaque or yuck taste first thing.

20 minutes may be too long as well. You're creating an emulsification that draws out then traps the bacteria in your mouth & encouraging saponification. You want the oil pulled to be white and frothy when you spit. If it falls and goes clear you're basically swishing toxic stuff all over your teeth. I do 15 minutes.
& Always brush beforehand! The sesame oil has been proven to retard plaque for up to 12 hours.

Been OP [oil pulling] since mid-November about twice a day with VCO. My first day, noticed a lot of mucus on my tongue after the second pull. I brushed my teeth & tongue after and rinsed with water as well. Most days I just have to blow my nose after & maybe spit mucus once or twice. A couple days back, I felt a scratchy feeling near the back of my mouth towards the throat when I was done. I took out a flashlight & saw a small round bump. Then I noticed what looked like mucus coming out of the throat area around the tonsils, coming through the flesh. Then, the next half hour I started coughing & spitting up phlegm continuously. Then it stopped, the bump & mucus was gone, and I had the best night's sleep I've had in awhile. The changes I've noticed so far include clear skin, I just don't seem to get acne now & I've had bouts of acne for over 25 years. My hair doesn't seem to split as bad as it used to. My teeth are whiter, tartar that has built up on the inside front of two of my lower teeth seems to be reducing, my gums are a lighter pink. I started breaking out in hives a few months back. I would feel like my heart was racing even though my pulse was normal or even slightly low. I would feel a burning inside that sometimes made me physically ill to my stomach. It looked like someone was drawing the world map on my back & legs from the hives. Numerous sleepless nights as a result. It took me awhile to figure out that the triggers were all grains & sulfites. I have had a couple of accidental exposures since the oil pulling & the hives symptoms are significantly reduced. In fact, there was only a slight feeling of racing and a couple small areas of hives. I have also noticed the fibrocystic lumps in my breasts seem to be shrinking and this has been the most pain free period in the last couple weeks than I've had for more than a year (although I should add that for the last few months I have also gone off all caffeine & no bra). Finally, there is no arthritis in my hands so far this year. By this time, last year, my hands were always either stiff or sore. Oil pulling is quite literally changing my life. I have always tried to live healthy, my weight is reasonable, in fact I've only had two periods of time my entire life where I was overweight. Once from childbirth and once from an injury that limited my movement for six months. However, despite all the healthy eating & use of natural medicine, nothing has created as noticeable a difference as oil pulling has. I want to thank you; because it was while I was trying to search for remedies for hives that I came across oil pulling on this site. Thank you!

You may want to look into taking Iodine . I take Iodoral. It immediately took care of ALL breast tenderness, soreness, fibers, cysts, everything. It was so bad before that I could hardly stand under the shower. Amazing product and another sad "Natural" healer that has gone from our diets. Check it out. I am just curious if oil pulling can be done with Corn / vegetable oil this is the only oil we have at home and I would really like to try it!
Maria: I use the standard (proly gmo) veg oil (usually corn or soy) for pulling for whole body detox. I also don't use 1 spoon, I get a mouth full for about 15 min. What's left I spit in empty plastic peanut bottle and the contents is usually bad smelly and always cloudy. If you are pulling for oral health I can't testify for this remedy. If you're body isn't in need of detox (young & healthy) the Coconut Oil will proly be your best choice. Anyway, give us some input of your condition and results from O.P. ing.

I love my gums and my teeth and am very proud of them... But for some reason all of a sudden my gums felt like they were receding and because of my smoking habit seemed to be losing their brightness. So I started to look into natural cures instead of going to the dentist; I never could stand the dentist... I felt that whenever he would stick his pick in my teeth and then yank on each of them, then trying to create a deeper crevice in it, I knew there was something not right about this being the only method of keeping our teeth healthy.
Anyhoo, so I started to oil pull sporatically when I had the chance. I work night shift every night so my sleeping habits are all backwards, not to mention eat candy to keep me awake in the night.
I bought safflower oil from the grocery store, and the first effect I noticed, or more like my friends noticed, was how great my skin looked within 1 DAY! I have had horrible acne for about 6 years due to starting meth as a teen but even after I stopped using for some time my face felt horrible. Next effect was actually scary until I realized what it was due to. I started to sleep non-stop. I felt like I should go to the doctor or something or I had hypersomnia. Then I read a couple messages on a few boards and saw that oil-pulling can cause the body to detox/make you sleepy. PHEW... So I'm guessing my body really needed it.
THIS IS THE SCARY PART! So as I was swishing the oil one night, I actually fell asleep with the oil in my mouth! Next thing I know I felt myself swallow and realized suddenly that I had swallowed all of the toxins back down again! I don't even know how long I left the oil just sitting in my mouth for. I quickly tried to spit it out and rinsed with water.
Since that one incident, my gums have receded so dramatically I almost burst into tears every time I see them bleed. I can't even smile anymore and I'm so self conscious and uncomfortable around everyone. Can someone help me please? I don't know if that was the reason for this and if there is a way I can strengthen and remineralise???

Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that I have been in the Dental Professional for 27 years now. Your thoughts on Dentists poking your teeth to create larger crevices is misconcieved. The explorer (pick in layman's terms) is used to detect decay. If the explorer sticks into the enamel of the tooth, that indicates that the tooth is forming a cavity. Your gums recede due to hard agressive brushing habits. Smoking also causes gum disease, which also cauees your gums to recede. The old fashioned term is pyorreah, today it is referred to as Periodontal disease. A non-smoking person can also get it by not brushing, flossing regularly.
Don't throw your Dentist under the bus, believe me I have been an assistant for many years and have worked for many Dentists during my career. I have only seen a few who were questionable. Most Dentists are hard working, caring professionals.
You should go back and have X rays and an exam, for your health's sake. It's difficult to get the public to understand that good health starts in the oral cavity. It is a fact that Periodontal Disease contributes to heart disease. Think about it, you have bleeding gums filled with bacteria and that blood gets pumped straight back through your heart.
Good luck! :)

My goodness, don't cry -- this is a wonderful opportunity to see what in the world is going on with your body!
First: What the dental assistant said -- go see a dentist; rule out something serious.
Second: Switch your oil to organic coconut oil -- give it a chance to fight your bacteria and infection.
Third: whatever you do or if you are doing it again, STOP eating candy and all sugars including drinks, soda, grains, drugs -- lots more water please!
Fourth: Eat well! Up your raw salads and add raw garlic to them.
Fifth: do your research on MSM & Vit-C; they will further eliminate those toxins you have put in your body.
Sixth: You're alive, so don't give up! Keep researching, the answer will find you! Got Faith in you & Love for you! CAT

I have done oil pulling in the past, but never was a regular oil puller... I have been in good health, with no major complaints and had excellent immune system.
Since beginning of this year... Life has kind of been on roller coaster ride, fractured bone, death of family member, a miscarriage... Kind of have taken over my health and to add to that, something I kept ignoring until last week, white discharge from gums from couple of places... I was hoping it will go away on own.. but it persisted.
After visit to dentist... He said, most likely one of the lower front tooth will have to come out and I did not like hearing that, Came home and started oil pulling with coconut oil with few drops of oil of oregano... Feel my gums are bit better but the infection is still there, going to dentist tomorrow for cleaning (after 3 long years) and hope he will see some improvement.. plan to pull after the cleaning.
The biggest concern now is... I woke up today and felt like I was hit by a bus... Extreme fatigue.. Forced myself to work... Not able to concentrate... Want to sleep. With a toddler at home, hard to get any rest until its time to hit the bed... I had flu last week... And the cough and cold are still there. Should I switch the oils or continue and hope things will improve...
I want to know if someone had similar symptoms which subsided and got benefits...
Oilpuller: I Oil Pull for whole body detox, which requires some additional cleaning as a result. I use otc mouthwash before and Hydrogen Peroxide after O. P. Also I experience symptoms of Esophagitis that causes extreme fatigue; treatment for this is burst Vit-A or Vit-E softgel in mouth and slowly swallow fallowed by Zinc Lozenge.
It appears you need any level of detox, but to stay specific, I personally do a Baking Soda/Sea Salt buffer, wait 15 min. take one grm Vit-C, Oil Pull, H2O2 wash, take 2 grm MSM.
