I learned how to treat red eyes when my children were babies and I was living in Holland. Just take a piece of cotton wool, wet it in boiled, cooled water and with the eye closed wash it from de outside to the inside. Do this a couple of times every time using a clean piece of cotton wool. It worked for them every time and it has worked for me over the years as well. Usually doing this one or two times was enough.

Eye Infection: Someone told me about the Lugol's Iodine and it can be used for the eye infection I have in my right eye, I've tried everything else, doctors, hospitals, eye washes, antibiotics, and can not get rid of this infection in the eye lid. Do you think the iodine will work? I"ve tried homeopathic remedies, Echinacom and Infectistat, Colidal Silver, and I just picked up some Oreganol. I'm wondering if the Lugol's Iodine will help.

Raw potato juice works very well for pink eye. Take a raw potato and blend it. Then take guaze and soak it in the mixture. Place on top of the eyes. Get a cloth to wipe any excess that may run down your face. Let it stay on the eyes for 10 mins or so. It should relieve the itchy burning immediately. Do it several times a day. The potato mix will not keep, make a small amount each time.

Black Tea Bag

Black tea and salt water cured my conjunctivitis.

Yesterday I woke up with a really itchy, bloodshot left eye and it got worse throughout the day. Then, this morning I woke up and my eye was all gooey, stuck together, swollen, and red. I never go to the doctor, even though my husband has great insurance, because I know all they do is prescribe antibiotics or some other pills from a laboratory and I do not want to mess up my body chemistry. So, naturally, I went to Earthclinic instead. First, I brewed two black tea bags in 1 1/2 cups of hot water. Meanwhile, I decided to try rinsing my eye with a concentrated solution of sea salt in warm water. I did not measure it, but it was quite a salty concoction. I used an eyedropper and put a few drops in my eye. It stung a lot, but I felt like it was working. Next, I used the eyedropper to drop warm black tea in my eye and it was SO soothing. It took all the stinging away! I then laid down and put the tea bag over my eye. Whenever it would cool down, I would put it back in the warm tea and put the other on on my eye. I repeated this procedure until the tea was cooled down. After that, I fell asleep again for an hour or so and when I woke up my eye felt and looked almost back to normal. Thanks Earthclinic!

I am both amazed, happy and angry! Amazed and happy because of how quickly 2 drops of fresh lemon juice diluted with water could cure my pink eye. Angry because I feel bamboozled by doctors and the medicine they've prescribed me for years! Thank you so much. I'm going to share it with everyone I know.

Flax Seeds and Aloe Vera Juice

Flax Seeds and Aloe Vera Juice Cured My Eye Infection.

This remedy was given to me by the owner of a health food store who learned it from her grandmother: For any type of eye infection (mine was bloodshot and pinchy upon waking in the morning--possibly Pink Eye), she does the following:

Pull out the skin "pocket" below the eye and insert at least two flax seeds or as many as you can get in there. Then put a drop of aloe vera juice on the eye. Leave seeds in overnight or up to 24 hours, then remove them (they will be gummy after drawing the bacteria to them). If eye infection isn't cleared up, repeat for another 24 hours.

Notes: flax seeds can be purchased at a health food store and must be kept refrigerated. Aloe vera juice does not need to be refrigerated. Do not put contact lens in eye while flax seeds are there.

Sea Salt

I have had a very mild on again off again case of Conjuctivitis for about three years. In the last three months with the cold it had gotten worse. (I moved from southern California to a state that experienced real winters). I hate over the counter medication or chemicals of any kind so I came to my favorite website and read a few of the remedies. I decided on a Sea Salt remedy. I got a 16 oz bottle of spring water, warmed it then added 2 tablespoons of Sea Salt and shook it up. I place a soft folded towel on the bathroom sink slightly over the edge and laid my head on the towel. I slowly poured the mixture into the corner of my eye until I instinctively knew to stop then I did the other eye for good measure. Once I rinsed my face I could feel my sinues very clearly! I was breathing and could FEEL it like I have not in a long while. I felt some drainage in the sinues and I guess that is way, not sure but what I do know is that my eye feels better than it has in two months! The thin skin around the eye was breaking. I intend on applying my solution on the hour and the same for the next day if needed but I do not think I will need to. Thanks Earthclinic!

I didn't believe the tea bag cure, but figured it was worth a try to save time and money of going to the doctor. I treated both eyes as I knew from past experiences that they would both be infected soon. I brewed two tea bags in a glass of water, let the bags in the boiling water until it cooled down. I then put the bags without squeezing them dry on my eyes for 15-20 minutes. They did leak a bit so I put a towel around my face and sat back in the easy chair. I also did let some of the liquid drip in my eyes. I did this three times yesterday, and today I'm ready to go out in public! Even my family couldn't believe how fast they cleared up! Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for this website, When I woke up on August 3 I had the pink eye. I tried that day treating it with saline solution but it continued to ache and the eye was red. However, I checked this site and found a remedy. That evening, I made green tea and applied the bag to my eye and allowed some to drop in my eye. Instantly the pain and redness was gone. When I woke the next morning the pink eye was completely gone. Thank you, this is awesome. Now I have a natural cure for the rest of my family.

Lemon Juice

Hello. When I was little I remember getting "pink eye" and my father putting lemon juice (from a lemon) straight into my eye....WOW did it sting but strangly only for about a minute and then it was GONE! And so was the infection! We kept doing compresses with a warm washcloth but the infection was cleared up. He used an empty eye dropper to suck up the fresh lemon juice and then dropped a couple of drops into each eyeball. Do'nt give up if this doesnt work the first time...you might just have a really bad infection. Keep doing it and you should be "cured" in no time. :) P.S. an organic lemon might work ever better. Good luck!

Baby Shampoo

When my daughter was young I read in a home remedy book to mix 1 part baby shampoo to 10 parts warm water. Use a cotton ball to clean outside of eye to remove mucus from lashes, then numerous times each day wash eye with same solution, warm is easier on the eye. It worked on my daughter each time. We now use it for the grandchildren when the need arises.

Baby Shampoo

Baby shampoo is the best! The trick is to keep using it twice a day until you are sure the pink eye is gone, usually about 3-4 days. I just pour it on my fingertips, lather them up with a bit of water and rub the closed eyes with the shampoo. I always try to open my eyes just a teeny bit so the shampoo can get in there. It doesn't hurt or burn at all. Afterward, rinse well and dry. Sometimes I follow it with coconut oil (usually only at night though) rubbed onto my closed eyes.

Hi Nancy,

so good to hear the CS worked for your eye. I am thinking of getting CS for list of protocal I see for virus. I woke up couple days with terrible headache and coughing like crazy…raw /scratchy throat today. but I see folks saying take the CS to fight virus. I am scared as its METAL that I will be drinking and its going to be in my body. I didnt think our bodies is to take in foreign METal. Reason why I never had any kinds of Flu shots…I learned flu shots has mercury in it!!!! why would I want that in me. lol. So this Colloidal Silver….that is metal…..isnt that bad for us to put in our body.
