Tried for years to get rid of this. Tried everything. Started during Covid all the sudden it stopped and then started again. I had been taking potassium supplement and didn't realize I had run out. This for me is a must. Omg after over 3 years of an eye twitch, it's finally resolved. Potassium!!!! God bless it!

Tonic Water, Lysine

I was having these eyelid spasms for a month. I tried calcium, magnesium, bananas, eye drops, warm compress.. nothing worked.

Then I saw the tonic water cure. So I bought a few cans of Schweppes tonic water. After drinking it, I could feel the twitching easing up a bit, but it was still twitching even on my fourth day of gulping down at least 3 cans of tonic water per day. Was really envious of those who got cured by this quickly.

Then I decided to switch brands, and I bought this more expensive tonic water with quinine sourced from south america. At that point in time, I remembered how I always cure my nerve pain (I get them every now and then after my shingles episode) - ie LYSINE. And I felt this eye twitching is probably due to some nerve abnormaly. Hence, I started taking like 2 lysine tablets every 6 hrs or so. At the same time, I started drinking the more expensive tonic water. Within a few hours of starting this regimen, I could finally feel it improving substantially. By the next day, it was like 95% gone. Also, pls avoid coffee. Coffee triggers my nerve pain, and makes my twitching worse.

In short, try taking Lysine and drinking tonic water with south american quinine. Hope this helps others plagued by this distressing ailment.

Lubricant Eye Drops

Eye Twitching - I believe it is from dehydration, especially in the winter when it is much drier in the Midwest, it especially affects the eyes. The best solution for me is using lubricant eye drops, I use the ones that come in separate vials. My eyes will stop twitching immediately when I apply the lubricant. This really works!

Did you take Vitamin B complex? Or is this like B12/B2 B3 etc. Thanks so much!

Dried Figs

Thank you, Art. It might be the potassium, but I eat bananas almost every day, so I am still inclined to think that there is something about the balance of minerals in figs that is making the difference (for my body at least).

Junebug,

A lack of potassium and or magnesium can cause eye twitching and muscle spasms. Figs are a good source of potassium.

I was suffering from an eye twitch on the upper lid of my right eye for over a year. I tried magnesium supplements and eliminating caffeine, without any effect. Then I started snacking on figs to curb my desire for sugar. Within probably less than a week of eating about a cup of dried figs a day, I noticed my eye twitch was gone and I was sleeping much better. I missed a day of eating the figs and my trouble sleeping returned that night, but my twitch did not return. I have since continued eating the figs daily. It's been about a month now that I have been eating this way and still no return of the twitch. I imagine it's the magnesium content of the figs but also perhaps something in the balance of that with other minerals in them because mag supplements and other magnesium-rich foods that I tried like hemp and pumpkin seeds had no effect.

For months, my eyes would twitch at any moment during the day or night. It was an issue if I was outside because I couldn't see properly when it happened.

I tried both tonic and coconut water with no success.

Eventually I decided to move my eyes to different directions whenever the twitching appeared. During one or two minutes, I would look up, down, to the sides, etc.

The problem disappeared within days.

I had an annoying upper eyelid twitch for 3 weeks. I read on here to try tonic water. I can say it definitely worked for me! While it never stopped it completely, after drinking a glass, it would give me reprieve for a few hours and then when I felt the twitch, I would drink more. I drank a litre a day on and off for 2 weeks and then dropped it back and then I woke up one day and it stopped. While I don't know if the tonic water cured the twitch, it will definitely stop the twitch for a certain amount of time, which really helped my anxiety as the twitch was really impacting my daily life. I would definitely try this miracle drink and go for the diet version (less sugar).

Hi Xanadu,

I occasionally get eye twitching as well. I've found that it is when I am usually a little stressed and my diet hasn't been too good. I find that taking multiple b supplements a few times a day with my meals usually gets rid of it within a day. Usually 50mg works well.

Hope this helps! By the way, that's in addition to my daily vitamin regimen.

My right upper eyelid started twitching many times per day causing me to seek a cure here. I tried bananas, potassium, magnesium, pressure in the area. None of those worked. I remembered that when my ribs were in pain my Chiropractor said the muscles were in spasm from a fall I had that caused a nerve to be pinched. When adjustments to relieve the pinched nerve failed he put electrodes on the area and applied shock treatments to the area to exhaust the muscles so they would be too tired to spasm and would get out of the habit of doing so.

That made me think I needed to exhaust the eye muscles but unwilling to put electrodes and shock in the area of my eye I just practiced blinking the eyelid as rapidly as possible for 30-45 seconds and found that stops it for a few hours so I am not constantly bothered by the twitching.

Hope this helps someone else. I still hope to find something that works totally.

Next time, try cream of tartar. It is a natural form of potassium - 1/4 of a teaspoon twice a day 😄😄👍

I wrote in a couple of weeks ago about baking soda and lime causing an eye twitch. Well this email is about how I finally cured it. My eye twitch went on for 10 days! INSANE!! Never had that happen before!!

I tried many of the remedies found here on EC: acupressure, magnesium, mag oil, bananas, and even electrolytes. The electrolytes helped slightly but then the twitch came back a couple of hours later. This weekend, after my eye was getting progressively more swollen from twitching, I decided to go and buy potassium supplements instead of just eating bananas. I ended up with potassium caplets instead of capsules as the big box store that was open didn't have capsules. (I don't think caplets are absorbed as well and will buy capsules in the future). I took one pill and my eye twitch stopped an hour later after 10 relentless days!!!

The twitch came back about 12 hours later, though less intensely than before, so I promptly took another potassium. I have repeated the dosage for two days now and the twitch is completely gone.

Another side effect from the alkalizing tonic that I didn't mention in my last post because it started a couple days after that, was that I also got nerve sensitivity to cold in my gum line. Very uncomfortable to drink. Guess what, the potassium cured that too!!!

Folks, do watch out when you do these alkalizing and detoxing remedies. They can pull vital nutrients from your body, leaving you with side effects that may take you down the rabbit hole trying to figure out!!!

See Ted's response here: https://ted.earthclinic.com/cures/allergies2.html

I have sat where you sit and still have my battles but between Earth Clinic and Dr. Batmanghelidj information on salt and water ratios (because he believed histamine was a dehydration signal from the body), I have overcome many things, you may also need a bit of kefir, if you use it start on low dose of 2 TBSP and work your way up. Blessing and good health to you. Love, Charity

I have also had prolonged eye twitching. This problem has spanned about 12 years for me. Potassium vitamins always helped with the twitching...however, I think the underlying problem was HISTAMINE INTOLERANCE (HIT). My body has gotten progressively more and more sick due to this problem that I didn't understand. Eye twitching was just one of a myriad of symptoms that it causes.

Google histamine intolerance and try a Low histamine diet to see if this helps. You may find many other seemingly unrelated symptoms are abated as well:)

Hi Suzie, it is unfortunately typical for doctors unable to help patients and thus put them on antidepressants, usually with no warning. It happened to my husband when they could not control his blood pressure, "here, take these". I read side effects including 'electrical brain snaps in brain' and was mortified. My husband was not told the pill was an anti depressant. Good on you for keeping up the search, some ideas for you. Transdermal Magnesium lotion applied below the eye, not too close, and because it sounds like a mineral is lacking, add 1/4 tsp unrefined sea or Celtic salt to your liter of water, at least two litres a day. Keep a food diary, and note which foods make the condition worse, so you can avoid. I think you'll find foods with aspartame, artificial colors and msg are your culprits. I would also replace your caffeine drinks or sodas with organic herbal tea to see if helps. Good luck!

Suzie, you could try supplementing with magnesium oil - transdermal is probably best. Magnesium calms muscles.

Could anyone help with a eye twitch I have had over 7 months. I've tried every supplement my N.D. has recommended, acupuncture, antidepresion meds. The eye doctors says it's nothing to do with the eye itself. My medical doctor wants to try botox injections. I really don't want to go that route by Ive tried everything else I know to do. Any ideas?

Had a twitch In my right eye for 5 weeks. It stopped last week and now it's started back and I'm having twitch in my left eye on the bottom lid. I've been stressed the past couple weeks thinking it's never going to go, but when I see posts about tonic water stopping it, I thought I'd give it a go so I'm drinking it atm. Does anyone know how long it will take for it work?

Glad to hear I'm not alone!

I've had my left lower lid twitching constantly for over 4 months now. Usually it twitches constantly (CONSTANTLY) for a week or so, then stops for another week, then starts again and so on. This is driving me crazy. Reading these posts I will def try the tonic water. Can you please describe details on you twitching? Was it constant or following an on and off pattern like mine? Thank you in advance!

Thank you! My undereye (where my undereye bag is) was twitching, like a muscle spasm) for almost a month. I saw the posts on this site, so last night I tried tonic water which says it has quinine (found it at CVS Pharmacy next to the mineral water), drank only 3 oz, and today in the afternoon it finally stopped! OMG! Thank you for posting! I can't believe it worked!

Twitching Eye:

Coconut water is a great source of potassium and it contains less carbs than a banana.

What kind of tonic water did you drink? I've been suffering eye twitching for over 3 months now.

EC: It should be a tonic water that contains quinine.

My left upper eyelid twitched for 6 weeks and I thought I was going to lose my mind until I found this thread about people having great results with tonic water. I went out and bought several liters and drank 8-16 oz a day for a week. The twitch is 90% better! Amazed and thankful!

Quinine definitely works. I've an eye twitch for about 5 months now. It stopped while I was on holiday, but now I'm back home it started again. On holiday I was drinking gin with bitter lemon, without realising this has quinine in it - which must be what stopped the twitching. At home I usually drink gin and soda (no quinine) which is why the twitch must have started again!

Lower Calcium Intake

I had an annoying eye twitch for months. Tried supplementing with Magnesium (tablets and transdermal-lotion) and increasing my potassium too, neither seemed to help. Finally I gave up, but recently realized the twitch was gone. I've recently gone low-carb and have cut out all of my daily glasses of milk (still eat plenty of cheese though! ) I think that for me, I had an overabundance of calcium caused by all the milk I drank, and supplementing with magnesium & potassium still couldn't bring it into the proper ratio. So my suggestion is to try cutting DOWN on your calcium if you tend to ingest alot, like I did.
