YES! Magnesium works for Eye Twitches! Magnesium citrate is the best magnesium, the stuff from the pharmacy does not work well.

I had an eye twitch that would happen many times throughout the day for about a month. I went to the eye doctor and he also suggested tonic water with quinine. I went right to the store and bought a bottle. Had only a few sips that night, as the tonic water is very bitter. The next day the twitch was completely gone. It was amazing!

The tonic water works! I had an eye twitch for about 1 1 /2 weeks. I drank around 3 oz. of tonic water (nasty stuff! ) and about 1-2 hours later my eye started watering. It twitched just a few times more throughout the night and then felt dry and itchy. I put on a brewed tea bag for about 20 minutes and woke up good as new the next morning! It has not returned since (about 2 weeks age).

My sister-in-law suggested plain water for the twitching of my eyes. Apparently it comes from dehydration. Two days later (after a regimen of a liter a day), my twitching stopped, not to have returned. My last episode of eye twitches was five years ago.

When I get an eye twitch it is directly related to stress. First, I do what I can to reduce the external sources of stress and then, when I'm at home, I do some meditation to calm my mind. I would love to have a regular meditation practice but I am not dedicated enough. I find that after about 1-5 days of doing 15-20 minutes of meditation per day my eye twitch is gone.

A follow up to my post above about Quinine. The twitch went away and has not come back. Glory be! It works!

Rapid eye twitch in left eye for 2 days.
Further to this 2007 suggestion of tonic water. I went looking for a tonic water (shudder) without sugar or corn syrup. Even the high priced one had sugar. And was almost $4 for one lousy soda.
It was recommended to me to try JUST Quinine which is the ingredient in tonic water that the OP was talking about. A supplement called Leg Cramps with Quinine was $23 for 100 caplets. I bought those to try and dissolved 3 immediately under my tongue.
I don't know how it works, but it worked. And in record time. I have also been overdoing the work outs the past week and my persistant leg cramps went away as well. I am amazed.
Doing a search for Quinine online made me a little uneasy as there are side effects for some. I will report back if the twitches return. But in a nutshell. Quinine stopped the eye twitch cold!
Thank you so much for that suggestion of tonic water/quinine.
I was ready to stick a lit cigarette in my ear (above) lol, Sam

I started a diet and had been eating 2-3 bananas for the past week. My eye started jumping 3 days ago. Today looking for a remedy for eye twitching and came across the bananaa remedy. This is a fail. It does not work.

I occasionally get a twitch in one eye (either side). When I do, I also take calcium and magnesium, and the spasm goes away completely. This has also worked for me with leg muscle spasms.

For what seemed like an incredibly LONG six months, I had an eye twitch that only became worse. In the begining it would only happen 3-4 times per week. At the end, 40-60 times PER DAY!!
Within the first week of starting a new job in a new town, in the NE New Mexico area, a co-worker noticed my twitch and shared this little trick. He said he would get them here and there as a kid and his Grandmother said it was caused by an air bubble in the tear duct. The bubble was trapped & as it would move it would then randomly touch, or cause pressure against, a nerve (maybe another reason why acupuncture is sometimes an effective cure.) there by cause a twitch if you will.
The secret cure?
A lit cigarette in the ear (the filter end, of course)!!!
*For those lacking in common sense: Please perform with EXTRA caution.
If your right eye twitches, then put it in the right ear. Remember that the eye, the ear, the nose & the mouth are all connected.
Why does this work?
If you truly have an air bubble, then the burning cigarette will cause a vaccum and draw out the air bubble! Pretty simple, huh?!?! ;-)
Tips:
-Make darn sure to keep hair back.
-Do NOT perform this metheod with any type of hair care/styling product that is flammable. (duh)
-Use as long of a cigarette as possible for 2 reasons: less chance of burning yourself & greater vaccum.
-Try to make a better seal in your ear by wrapping paper towel or tissue around the filter, but not to cover the end of the filter.
This worked for me in just a matter of minutes. I only had to leave it in my ear for 3 or 4 minutes. Just be sure to keep the cherry (for non-smokers this is the burning/smolder, red hot end.) as hot as possible. For smokers, you'll know what I mean when I say "hot-box the heck out of it!". For non-smokers, that means suck on the filter long inhales and rapidly so that the paper burns away and the tobacco will have a very long smoldering area. 1/4" is a lot but again, it creates a stronger vaccum/suction. The goal here isn't to perform a stupid frat-party thing, but rather a 'medical procedure' (LOL ;-) of sorts!
Hope this helps and BE CAREFUL!!!

Eye twitch
Several years ago I developed an eye twitch after my grandfather died. I had been unable to attend the funeral as it was overseas, but I also refused to cry, or view photos or video of the funeral, so as to not have to deal with the grief. Then when I decided to look at the photos and video, and have a good cry, the twitching stopped immediately and for good. I realized the twitching was due to the stress of suppressed grief.
My sister also gets eye twitches after sleep deprivation.

I have had intense eye twitching in the last year. It went away but then inexplicably came back. It then went away again. Coincidentally, I have started taking magnesium I probably stopped taking it but then again started taking it. I had not been able to figure out what I was doiing that was making the eye twitch go away but now I know.

I had an annoying eye twitch lasting already two months before seeking help from my eye doctor. He said to drink tonic water for the quinine. Quinine is a muscle relaxant, and sure enough, the twitch subsided that very day.

I had a severe eye twitch for 10 months. It was driving me crazy. Homeopathy didn't work; rest and relaxation didn't work- and I was at my wits' end. Then I got smart- I went to an acupuncturist. After just TWO sessions the twitch was completely gone, and it has not returned! It has been about 5 months.

Every time my eye starts twitching I eat a banana. It's a great source of potassium.
