From various website, I gathered various treatment. I started with hives 6 weeks ago. I did try ACV with baking soda morning and evening but it hives was appearing every evening. Except I went on holiday. My hives are started disappearing from the skin. I did the following for a week.

1. I am taking multivitamins tablets from Holland & Barratt everyday.

2. I am also taking echinacea tablets morning and evening again from Holland and Barratt.

and finally,

3. I also use Kokam (indian spice) soft one.

In a cup, I take 5 - 6 Kokam soft one and pour with half a cup of hot water and then mix it. I use liquid to drink and rub remaining kokam from the mix on hives. I drink this mixer twice a day one in the morning and one in the evening. You can get Kokam from Indian grocery shop.

I hope this will help many of you.

For the past two years I suffered from a severe case of chronic urticaria and angiodaema that manifested itself on my palms and soles as well as my legs and face. My particular condition would not respond to the traditional prescription medications of H1 and H2 inhibitors (anitihistamines) even though I was taking twice the daily recommended dosage. I was even put on low dose cyclosporine therapy by my allergist/immunologist in a vain attempt to control this condition. The only alternative that succeeded in temporarily relieving the urticaria was prednisone (which is too dangerous to be considered a long term solution). My condition was so severe that I was unable to leave the house because of the embarrassment of the visible wheals on my arms and face. The hives and swelling kept me from going in to work on more than one occassion, and kept me from being about to go out and socialize as well. It also was exacerbated by exercise as well as hot or cold weather. Needless to say I had exhausted what I thought was all the possible causes and possible means to cure my ailment to no avail. That was until my mother called me after reading a book about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. My further research led me to this site (and for that I thank God!), and my condition has ceased completely! I contine to use raw ACV along with baking soda and don't plan on ever stopping. I am no longer on any medications whatsoever...which I think is Truly Amazing. Thank you Ted and the good folks at earthclinic for the website and the willingness to help people. It really is amazing that something so simple accomplished what literally thousands of dollars of prescription medicine could not.

To Jeff in Atlanta, GA. I have suffered from the same condition on and off for the past 6 years. I am in the middle of a terrible time of hives right now. I stumbled across this web site yesterday and I bought my ACV today. Can you tell me how much and how many times you took this per day? Thank You.

Hi,

I have had episodes of hives/rash since the 1980's. I read about L-lysine here on Earth Clinic and I decided to try it. Thankfully my episodes are a lot fewer now with the help of L-lysine. I only take L-lysine as needed and of course if possible at the onset one 1000mg. My hives/rash has not gotten full blown since I started taking L-Lysine.

Before L-lysine my hives/rash would follow a defined pattern (nerve endings) on my upper body, my neck, hairline down to both elbow creases, down to the back of my knees.

I would feel hot to the touch and very fatigued but wouldn't run a temperature or so they told me at the doctor's office. It would run it's course and fade away. I hated wearing mock turtlenecks during the summer.

After several doctor visits I stopped going they couldn't give me any answers one doctor brought out a medical book, one wanted to do a punch biopsy.

I also had a thumb nail that got 100% better after soaking in Apple cider vinegar again I credit Earth Clinic. It really looked bad before treating with Apple Cider Vinegar in fact my mother noticed my improvement and began soaking her finger and she had improvement too it's not 100% yet but it works. It didn't take months to see the improvement.

Hopefully by sharing my story it may help someone.

Thank-you Earth Clinic and to all the contribute their experiences.

I suffered with hives for over a year; they kept coming back. I went to doctors and they gave me prescriptions which didn't work. Believe it or not, I was so desperate that I had heard about toothpaste and I tried it and it worked. I used Aquafresh. I haven't had hives in a few months now.

EC: Allergy to fluoride in toothpaste appears to be a common hives trigger: http://www.nofluoride.com/allergy.htm

How exactly are you supposed to use the ACV and baking soda? Do you mix it and apply it topically? I'm breaking out in hives for the first time in my life, and my last outbreak was massive and all over my body. I'm not a fan of medication so I'm trying to find a natural cure.

THANK YOU for suggesting toothpaste! I didn't have ACV on hand but that would have been my next thing to try. I only have Crest, not the type you tried, but it seemed to calm the itching almost immediately. I'd already tried lavender oil, tea tree oil, eucaliptus oil, peppermint oil, and camomile lotion. (all separately on different days.) Along with benadryl. Nothing was working and the itchiness was so bad I couldn't sleep.

I don't know if this will be cured by toothpaste, but at least I can rest now. I'll try to remember to report back to let you know if it's a cure. If it matters, my hives were caused by an insect bite I was mildly allergic to, and the toothpaste doesn't sting like I assumed it would.

Hi Sheila, I belong to an iodine group on yahoo and they have a recommended protocol to follow when taking iodine. You should make sure to take these supplements daily:

Vitamin C - 2,000-5,000 mg

Magnesium - 400 mg

Selenium - 200-400 mcg

unrefined sea salt (Celtic, Himalayan) - 1/2 tsp

For the bromide detox symptoms you can use another 1/2 tsp unrefined salt in 1/2 cup of water followed by 12 oz of water every 30-45 minutes until urination begins. The chloride binds to the bromide in the blood and carries it out through the kidneys. Taking 12.5 mg of Lugol's is actually quite a small dose and some recommend taking a minimum of 50 mg. Don't give up on taking it. I hope this helps you.

I break out in hives from food allergies. The last rash of hives was very bad and would stop itching so I rub AVC on it and it burned but the itching stopped and the rash wash gone in about a week. I also have herpes so I though I would try it on a sore and again the itch disappeared and the sore healed in two days. Next I am going to try drinking it and hopefully it will help prevent the allergies and outbreaks. I applied the AVC twice a day with a cotton ball.

I have suffered from Cholinergic Urticaria or Hives as it's more commonly known, for the past 15 years. I have attended Dermatologists galore, tried anti-histamines and all sorts! To no avail. So... I did some research and tried a number of things, natural and herbal, like Quercetin tabs (found in red onions) which is natures anti-histamine, with mixed success. Interestingly though, my ailment appears when stressed, hot - in warm weather or artificial heat, like a sauna, sweating or excercising vigorously and is manifest with red bumps all over my arms, legs, neck and torso which can become itchy - not to mention unsightly. I found the best treatment is an Air Bath - cool or cold air outdoors, minus the clothes, not always possible though!! ;-)I've been on ACV for a while (read my last post on 2/19/08) and decided to manipulate the system I had adopted and over-and-above my two cups of ACV/water solution a day, I decided to try the ACV/bicarb of soda (2tablespns to 1/4teaspn mix in water) about half an hour before vigorous excercise. The red bumps were hardly noticeable, I was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt for the first time in ages, and when I finished, I went for my usual 'sauna, cold shower, steam bath then another cold shower' routine to finish off. Normally,I'd look like I had been stung by a thousand bees! Literally. However, on this occassion, my skin was pretty clear, not red and inflamed looking - very few small red bumps but hardly noticeable, I felt fantastic!! No skin experts, doctors or snake oil salesmen could break the code, but I think I may have. Interestingly though, I beleive wholeheartedly that part of the problem is acid/alkali PH balance in the body and crucially, when out of kilter, renders the body susceptible to all-sorts of conditions. Thanks to Ted for the tip!!!

Dough
Posted by Michael (USA) on 12/04/2006

This is an old one (from my grandmother) .If you suffer from hives, make dough with next ingrediants: flour, water and salt. Take about two full tbs of flour (you can increase amount, if you need more dough, or have several hives), about quarter of teaspoon of salt and enough water to make not to soft and not to hard dough (thickness, should little softer then vermicelli dough and not sticky at all). Lay over the dough on the hive and cover with linen. Keep it like that until dough crust, then change if there is a need (usually there is no need... hive burst after first apply). While dough is on hive, you will feel warmth and mild, pricking pain...no need to worry, that is a sign that hive is starting to "ripen".

Another cure for hives is Plantain (plantago major). Just apply its fresh leafes on your hive and cover it with linen. Change this every hour, until your hive burst.

First Ever Case of Hives!

I have no idea what triggered this. Dowsing with a pendulum tells me nothing! I came on about 3 hours ago. I took 2 Benadryl about an hour ago. Then I took a spray bottle with ACV into the shower. Rinsed it off with fairly hot water. But coconut oil on after the shower. I don't know what stopped the itching. But it's 95% better. Still red and welty. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

I have been suffering from Idiopathic Uticaria (hives) for 3 years. A year ago I had the worse case, I was getting ready in case I went into an anaphylactic attack. No allergist, no dermatologist, no doctor helped. I went for three weeks to Weimar institute in Northern California, I change my diet to No oils, except for some olive oil, no animal fats, (became a vegetarian) no Refine sugars or flours, Cold and hot showers, exercise, clear air and sunshine, lots of water drinking, relaxation and spiritual meditation. I have lost Over 5 pounds and the hives after three months on this diet, or better, life style went away.I did use alovera gel to calm them down, it was the only thing that gave me relief and the antihistamine Zyrtec. I am afraid to leave the Zyrtec although I do not have the hives now. I think I like to try the ACV just in case it can help me to give up the antihistamine. Any suggestions?

There are many conditions, like hives, that can be attributed to poor gut health. Thorough cleansing is mandatory in severe conditions but if not too much advanced may respond favorably to adding Milled Flax Seed to diet and taking Oregano Oil Softgels. A good Prebiotic/Probiotic supplement first thing every morning will help. The ACV will help also. The antioxidant, flavinoid Quercetin is a potent anti-inflammatory/antihistamine. A supplemental Digestive Enzymes will help as will fresh Pineapple.

After a few weeks of this begin adding the very healthy fats like Evening Primrose Oil, Borage Oil, Flax, Fish, and Krill Oil. Eat Salmon, Mackerel, and Sardines. These EFA's can dramatically reverse inflammatory conditions as well as promote healing throughout the body.

In 2013 we did a second and probably not final downsizing of our lives and household good...part of that was leaving our good mattress in South Carolina before moving to Texas....

We up-sized household goods and purchased a very comfortable Therapedic Memory Foam Mattress....three months later I woke up with what I knew was hives (never had allergic breakouts in life-69 yrs of age) on entire torso...I called my husband, and he began to ask what I had eaten different from him and if we had change detergents....I told him nothing had changed.

After immediately researching hives and changing our diet to low histamine...I visited my doctor and dermatologist to be told I had hives...My husband and I constantly went over our lifestyle...

We were renting an apartment with my computer station in our bedroom...my mind was going over my problem...I kept asking myself what was new and different....We had purchased all new furniture and household goods....Suddenly I looked around at the bed and googled "Can your mattress make you sick?" WOW!!!!

i tried many of the suggestions on this site and others....an associate that was into "New Age, Organic..etc" told me to do a Pectin Cleanse...I did not comprehend at first...I asked, "Do you mean the Pectin that is used in canning?" Answer was yes.....

MY CURE.... RECOMMENDED DAILY DOSAGE OF PECTIN (POWDER) FOR YOUR BODY.... THIS CAN BE FOUND BY GOOGLING... I USED APPROXIMATELY A TBSP... I IMMEDIATELY SAW CHANGE AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE... OVER TWO YEARS LATER.

If you take medications and or supplements you should take your Pectin dose at what you consider a safe time of day so that your meds/supplements are not removed from body.

Colloidal Silver

I've heard of this a number of times in the past few months...

In most recent case a male, aged 30 reports a rash breaks out intermittently on torso, legs, arms. Very itchy and with small welts. It goes away in a few weeks but a month later reappears in a different location.

This has been going on for about a year and a half. He has been to three doctors and given antibiotics. The rashes continue.

I asked him, if prior to onset, he had had any significant viral infections. Yes, he reported; a very bad and long lasting sinus infection plus some serious dental work that produced a long lasting infection on one side of his face.

With that I wondered if he had a blood born virus infection and discounted a fungal infection. However, I asked a long shot question....have you had any problem with mold in some damp area, at house or work, and ... one more...any problem with infection where dirt might have been involved. No mold...but yes to the dirt! He'd been playing softball and slid into a base and severely tore off skin while sliding into the dirt. Leg became infected and swollen for weeks.

So my thought is a possible double issue...virus plus fungi.

He is now on doses of colloidal silver three times daily. If his energy levels begin returning within 2 weeks, the infection theory might have some validity and he'd continue taking the CS for a considerable length of time.

If anyone else on EC has any other ideas please post.

Oh, also in the past 3 weeks he had begun having intestinal problems...digestion difficulty. My fear...perhaps the infection is not just in the blood but is invading other systems. So now he is also taking Apple Cider Vinegar in the evening...a tablespoon in glass of water.

Posted by Dave (Fountain Inn, Sc) on 06/02/2015

I previously reported about 2 weeks ago about a friend who is experiencing outbreaks of rashes...leg, then arms then torso etc. This sounded like a blood born virus or fungus. I promised to report back after he started taking colloidal silver three times daily.

After ten days, the good news: the rashes has stopped. His wife is ecstatic.

The bad news as of now: his energy level is still unchanged, so he reports although the wife reports that she thinks he has more energy.

He suffers too from some brain fog and other possible brain related problems. That is something he must treat differently...to get the CS into the brain. He wants to begin that program this week.

Again, I'll report back in another two weeks to see if he is improving in energy and help with the brain fog and other neurological symptoms.

Hello Sara,

Re: my friend with low energy/brain fog/floating skin rashes...

You ask if he has been tested for Lyme. No. I'll re ask but even if I suspected Lyme, the issue would be the same...how to treat and if me I'd go the direction of elimination of infection...exactly what he is on right now...CS three times daily.

But I'll ask and even if not tested will enquire whether he was ever exposed...knowledge of likely tick bite, etc.

Have you tried Sudafed or Benedryl? I went into anaphylactic shock in the doctor's office from hives and could have died. To avoid this, all I had to do was take Sudafed or Benedryl which I then did for about a week. You may need to take it for more or less time. Hives can be very dangerous so don't mess with them.

I'm into natural remedies, too, or I wouldn't be on this site but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Also, since you have had hives for so long, I'm wondering about something in your diet. You can become suddenly allergic to foods you've been eating all your life or to a new food or a new brand from the supermarket. Eliminating grains might be a good place to start.

Since stress can also be a factor, you might want to try L-Theanine, tryptophan, 5-HTP or any one of several other stress reducers. Unfortunately, what works well for most people may not work at all for you. It's kind of hit or miss.

I've been using ACV with mother for over a year 2x a day. My body ph is 6.75, slightly acidic. I was taking kelp pills once a day, and apparently had an allergic reaction. I have raised white hives all over, from head to toes. They don't itch except on my neck. So obviously ACV isn't working. I tried ACV on skin yesterday, on white raised hives it didn't hurt, but didn't do anything. On neck where red and itchy it made it worse. I've been into herbs and natural healing for years.

I decided to not take benadryl after yest. morning, and instead took 1/2 tsp of baking soda twice yesterday in 8oz water. I also showered with pine tar soap, and pine tar shampoo. It felt better after shower, but today I'm just as covered up as I was. They are like huge white welts, some red bumps in pores. I think the only thing I can do is just let it work it's way out of my system.

I've had red itchy rashes before, but not sure what the trigger is, other than maybe stress and antibiotics. I'm going to start taking benadryl, I see no other way around this.

I also oil pull with virgin coconut oil everyday, have for a couple years. Stopped last night so it wouldn't get worse. I still think it's the kelp, it upset my stomach horribly. I can't take activated charcoal because I'm on pills I need to take.

Any idea anyone? I love this site, come here often.

Dear Blossom, So sorry to hear about your hives! My son, when he was only 3 or 4, had terrible hives that we cured with Nettle Tea. Nettle tea is very safe. You could buy the tea bags and drink 3-4 or even more a day. Or you could take nettle leaf powder in capsules - 4 of them 4 times a day.

Turmeric is also a great anti-inflammatory and I have seen it help a number of inflammatory skin conditions in my children. Try 2 in capsules several times a day. Safe to take with the nettles. Works best with a little pepper and a little fat. Some like to mix a teaspoon of it in milk. Personally, I can't bear it that way. :) Be sure to take plenty of water with turmeric, it can be constipating.

An epsom salt bath may also be helpful. 1-2 cups epsom salt in a bath. This can be done with the turmeric and the nettles.

Let us know what helps you!

I am having hives all over my body for a couple of months now very itching small and large bumps.... It started with rashes and some bumps here and there. I kept suspecting some sort of insect (BedBugs) is biting me at night. There were actually BBs where I was living and they did bite me at night. There were no other food or diet changes I made otherwise other than introducing a new multivitamin and Immune boosting supplement. I am off both of these things for a month now and also moved the location I was living.

However the severity and intensity of hives is increasing every passing week. Just last week I have the most severe breakout all over the body even on my face. It made me worried.

I went to the doctor he prescribed Anti-Histamine and Zyrtec. I am only taking the anti-histamine when the outbreak get severe.... may be once a week one tablet of Loratidine.

I went to a Chinese Herbal Medicine specialist and she checked my tounge and pulse and gave me to drink a herbal decoction of 12 herbs for 4 day. Today is the fifth day there seems to be some improvement.. However I started getting them in the hip area and minor breakout on the hand. I am applying castor oil on the bumps and they do go away after a while.... Also taking nettle tea. Along with digestive Enzymes full spectrum and betaine HCL.

I will write down my journey on if I am able to get total control/cure over this hive clamity.

Will keep posted.

Hi Saiqa,

Spinach is a very high oxalate food, and in some people this may cause hives as well as other unpleasant symptoms. It's possible that a low oxalate diet may be beneficial, and there is information online about low oxalate diets and also lists of which foods are high in oxalates. Chia seeds, mentioned in the previous post that you refer to for hives, can be found in most health and grocery stores or ordered online. Best wishes.

Dear Cindy,

I am so sorry about the hives. They are miserable! I had them chronically for about 6 months many years ago. (They did resolve on their own. I had no idea of what to try.)

I have used nettles for allergies, including hives for my family in recent years. For adults, we use one dose of nettles one to three times a day. (A dose would be: 1 teaspoon of nettle tincture OR 4 capsules of nettle leaf, OR 1 cup of nettle leaf tea.

Some castor oil or coconut oil on the skin may help some with the irritation.

Plenty of water and some daily sunshine may be helpful.

I also find baking soda baths to be great for skin irritations, especially ones that itch - 1 cup of baking soda in a warm bath for at least 20 minutes.

Let me know how it goes.

I am wondering if my muscle aches (polymalgia, what the doctors think I have) and hives could be related. Not sure if they are hives. Couple of months ago broke out in hives all over. Was able to finally get rid of them, but now on occasion I will break out in small welts that itch tremendously. I sometimes wake up with a swollen eye, which does go away after a couple of hours. Or in the middle of the day I might all of a sudden get a welt on the palm of my hand or other various parts of my body. Then after reading some post, was wondering if it could be dust mites in my bed and if this could all be related to my muscle aches which I have had for over 2 years.

Hives Triggers
Posted by Blueplanet (Hong Kong) on 06/25/2012

I never had any hives in my life until recently. On retrospection, I realized that I became unusually obsessed with baking soda on these dates. I suspect that my hives were linked to my excessive intake of baking soda.

Baking soda neutralizes stomach acid, which is needed for proper digestion of proteins. The connection between low stomach acid and chronic recurrent hives was relatively well known and described in medical journals in the early and mid-20th century:

http://wrightnewsletter.com/2011/05/16/itching-for-knowledge/

http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C42513.html

If lack of stomach acid is a real cause of chronic hives, then should we (victims of hives) include foods that increase secretion of stomach acid?

I agree that lack of stomach acid could somehow contribute to hives. I've only had them twice that I can remember. My triggers have been staying awake for 36 consecutive hours (face), and drinking pau d'arco tea (calves).

I DO have stomach issues that I've previously taken Chinese herbs for. I've been off the herbs for a while now and the stomach issues have returned. Both times I've had hives have been times when I haven't been on the herbs.

My calves were extremely itchy when I woke up this morning. I gave them a good scratch. I initially thought I'd been bitten by bugs while I was sleeping. When I took a good look, I could see that it was hives.

I'm going to try topical coconut oil (organic unrefined) first. If it helps, I'll post here.
