I had a growing spot of angular chelitis on the left side of my mouth, and had tried fungal cream and constant application of all natural lip balm. After about three works, I started to get desperate. I eat a really balanced diet and didn't think I could be B deficient, but I bought a B complex and took one at dinner one night...by the next morning, the crack had healed considerably and was not as painful. Two more B complexes later and a little lip balm for the dryness and I am back to normal 100%.

Angular Cheilitis is CURED by B2. This is why they add riboflavin to our milk, fortified cereals, bread, etc. Took me years to figure out, but in hours I feel better & cracks in the corner of my mouth heal within a day.

Vitamin B2 cured me of angular chelitis. I had these sores in the corners of my mouth all through high school, when I used to eat tons of sugar. Turns out, refined sugar robs the body of B vitamins. (When refined, all of sugar's natural vitamin B is removed as molasses, so the sugar actually absorbs it from your body as you digest it, leaving you deficient. ) Anyway, at the time I didn't realize WHY I was deficient; I just read online (back in the 28K modem days) that B2 would solve the problem. Within 1 week of taking B2, the sores went away. I had them return a few times over the next few years, and every time, I would just start popping the vitamin B again until they disappeared. B Complex works too; chances are, if you are deficient in B2, you may need other B vitamins also.

Finally, I quit eating refined sugars and now I don't have to take any vitamins; I haven't had the sores come back for years.

However, just recently, I had to take antibiotics for over a month following a serious throat infection and surgical removal of an infected abscess. After a few weeks on the antibiotics, I was so surprised to see the angular chelitis flare up in the corners of my mouth after all this time. A little research turned up the fact that some antibiotics cause vitamin B deficiency with long-term use (and in return, B vitamins can actually interfere with the absorption of the antibiotics). So it is NOT recommended to take B Vitamins while taking these antibiotics. Instead, start popping B complex after you are done with the drugs.

Finally, a great source of B vitamins worth trying is Nutritional Yeast flakes. They are commonly found in the bulk sections of health food stores. 2 Tablespoons contain from 35 to 100 percent of your daily value of every B vitamin. You can safely eat tons of it. It is really tasty sprinkled on popcorn or cooked veggies. The advantage of Nutritional Yeast is that it is a natural source instead of a synthetic (lab made) source. So instead of eating Vitamin B made out of petrochemicals, you are just eating dead, dried yeast cells (sounds yummy, eh?) that were grown on vitamin B-rich molasses, which was removed from (guess what) sugar! Coming full circle now. Some say that vitamins from whole foods are much easier to absorb. At any rate, either natural or synthetic will work. Good luck.

Angular Chelitis

I had to share my findings with the annoying discomfort that comes with cracks in the corners of the mouth that is often confused with Cold sores. I tell all my friends as soon as I see that they are suffering. They are always so thankful as they tried everything else. Just TAKE Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin containing foods and it will go away in days. As the cracks are usually caused from a Riboflavin Deficiency.

These foods will provide your body with B2 at an uptake rate of around 15%.
Beef liver, cooked 3 ounces 1.71mg
Mushrooms, cooked 1 cup 0.47mg
Raw, unpasteurized milk 1 cup 0.34mg
Mushrooms, raw 1 cup 0.29mg
Organic egg, cooked 1 large 0.27mg
Almonds, raw 1 ounce 0.24mg
Organic Beef, cooked 3 ounces 0.19mg
Broccoli, boiled or steamed 1 cup 0.18mg
Spinach, boiled or steamed 1 cup 0.18mg
Organic chicken, dark meat, roasted 3 ounces 0.18
Asparagus, boiled or steamed 6 spears 0.13
Salmon, broiled 3 ounces 0.13

Daily requirements:
Adults 19-years and over: Males 1.3mg Females 1.1mg

You can also just eat a Breakfast Cereal with fortified vitamins, take a multi B-Complex or source the foods. Good Luck!

Hi there! I used vitamin E oil on a Q-tip and it healed up my angular cheilitis the two times I had a bout. I do know I have Sjogren's mouth dryness so perhaps this is why the remedy worked. It was my underlying cause. However, I had also taken a mushroom complex for a couple of days and this triggered my first bout. Sugar triggered another bout. My guess here is that I'm loaded with Candida. I have also lived in a mold home.

I occasionally get cracking in the corners of my mouth whenever I eat any foods with vinegar or soy sauce. This is because they both contain yeast which causes chelitis. I avoid using these ingredients and all yeast but sometimes it's unavoidable. I also get redness above my upper lip.

For the cracking I use a little of the cream I get with my yeast infection treatment capsules. It is a miconazole 2% cream. Within 1 -4 days the cracking and redness is gone without fail. It really works. I apply it morning and night.

For my upper lip redness I use a common clotrimazole cream used for athelete's foot and an antibacterial non steroid cream from my doctor and apply them both to the affected area four times a day. I also tone my face and upper lip with pure witch hazel and a few drops of tea tree oil every second night or so, rinse it off and use no moisturizer. I also avoid all yeast foods. This works after about 4-10 days and after a few treatments of this the redness now is virtually gone. It will return if I eat more yeast containing or causing foods but now goes away on its own after a few days when I stop. I will appply the atheletes foot cream a couple of times a day to speed up the process.

I also eat a very healthy vegan diet with no sugar, salt or yeast and take a vegan yeast and salt free vitamin and 2 500 mg l lysine capsulses a few times a month. This all has really done the trick for me and I can now happily say I am no longer bothered by this upsetting ailment.

I had tried all the usuals to get these cracks off my mouth! Silver, oregano oil, coconut oil ext. I had these things for almost two months! Finally came here (idk what took me so long) and tried the plain yogurt. It started FINALLY going away after first night. I'm at day 5 and its almost gone!!!

I had a moderate sized sore/crack on one corner of my mouth (Angular Chelitis). I wasn't familiar with Angular Chelitis, so I initially used my two "go-to" remedies - Raw Honey and Tumeric - on the sore with little to no result. After seeing the yogurt recommendation on EarthClinic, I gave it a try. I covered the sore in yogurt, and within minutes I felt it was working. Sure enough, within about 4 or 5 hours the cracked sore was gone.

There was still some residual tumeric on the sore when I applied the yogurt; not sure if that helped speed up the healing process. But generally speaking, I was both suprised and thrilled with the results/effectiveness of applying yogurt to Angular Chelitis. I would strongly recommend trying this remedy first if you come down with a bout of AC.

I have had angular chelitis problem for years and I was always giving a prescription called dental paste. I decided to try plain yogurt with the acidophilus and took a q tip and applied to the corners of my mouth in a clump before bedtime and when I awoke it was completely cleared up :)

I can't explain it, but yogurt really works for angular chelitis. I put it on and off for about 36 hours and it cleared it right up!

Yogurt cured my Angular Chelitis

I applied yogurt to a small inflamed rash at the corner of my mouth several times a day for 2 days. It was mostly cleared up in 2 days, and all gone in 3 days. I used homemade yogurt I had made from fresh goat's milk.

After reading this, I've tried yogurt for my chelitis and it WORKS!!!! You can't go out with it though. I used organic yogurt, just a little pea size to cover it, never washed it, it gets dried up and you can peel it off. Even after the first application, I can see it started drying and size getting smaller. I used several times a day and left it on before going bed. It is cleared totally!!! Now, whenever I see that redness accumulating at the corners of my mouth I dab the pea size yogurt on it and it gets cleared immediately... Thank you, thank you!!!

Hi, I don't know what causes Angular Chelitis, but I usually put yogurt on mine to make them go away. Sometimes it takes a couple of applications, and I wouldn't go out wearing the yogurt :), but it works repeatably for me.Wendy
