DMSO Side Effects   1  0

I need help. I ordered 99.9% DMSO on Amazon, but what I received was 99% industrial grade. I used it anyway on my tendonitis and other areas of the body. The thing I that I got wicked drunk that night and very very sick! I am wondering if it is possible that the other 1% is alcohol or Acetone in the DMSO and if that is what contributed to me getting that "drunk" feeling...? If so, seems like it is dangerous as could I have gotten alcohol poisoning? Somebody please email me if you know the answer. kathyjo (at) velocity [dot} net.

In researching DMSO today, I read on one site that it will greatly enhance the effect of alcoholic drinks so it's best not to drink at all when using DMSO therapeutically.

Quote from an Amazon.com review: "There is a Medical Grade and an Industrial Grade. You should ONLY use Medical Grade. The other is sold at hardware stores and is toxic. Furthermore, anything you put on your skin at the same time you use DMSO will penetrate immediately, so make sure it is not toxic. Ditto for clothing with strong dyes if your skin is still wet with DMSO. You will get 'garlic breath' seconds after use, which lasts 4-6 hrs. This is the sulfur breaking down in your body and producing sulfuric breath as waste, while also delivering oxygen to the muscles which are healed many times faster. This has also helped certain autistic children absorb somatropin (?) thru a dermal patch, which has alleviated a lot of food issues with certain types of autism... the rest can be read here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R25Z3ID3GYAYU3/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R25Z3ID3GYAYU3 ;)

[YEA]   The side effects I have experienced with DMSO are mostly non existent. Slight side affect is odor. Some people think the odor is sulfur and some call it onions or garlic. The value of the relief of DMSO is so great that the tiny little problem of the odor is so insignificant and superficial that it ought to be ignored. If odor truly a problem for the significant people like your husband or your wife then plan your DMSO therapy together like husband and wife. (The two are one flesh according to Scripture). Slight irritation at site of application that goes away after a little time is one other small side affect. It might help to look at the side effects of some of the Poisons err, Drugs that those doctors try to shove down your throat. Now those are "side effects" that I can't live with. But a little odor, a little irritation on the skin, I Can handle that.

This is a follow up on side affects of DMSO. From my experimentation on myself I have discovered that there seems to be a limit on how much DMSO a body can process in a given period of time. And don't take too close to bed time. My journal is available on the web.

I don't notice the smell of DMSO for the most part. Apparently some people do. I had a clerk in a cheap store tell me today that she wanted me to do something about my odour because she said that somebody complained about the smell when I was in the store. I asked her how she knew that it was me? Then I asked the other obvious question: Are you going to shop for me? Where am I going to shop? Then I told her, "I have to take the medication that I have to take".

I didn't hear another word out of her. But she did not bother to even bag up my stuff that I bought.

I know there are many people taking DMSO and I have never heard of anyone complaining to anyone else.

I am thinking that people who smoke cigarettes may be more sensitive to the smell of DMSO. Can anyone echo that?

I have been looking for that one death that has been harped upon concerning DMSO and I think I have found it. Doctors kill in the neighbourhood of one hundred thousand people a year in the hospitals and with pharmaceuticals and man made toxins they call medicines and one (1) woman dies with DMSO in her blood and the DMSO is maligned? What a crock of baloney.

I learned about DMSO from watching Tony Pantalleresco's YouTubes, one of which is about using DMSO and turpentine and salts in a bath. I had first used DMSO that I bought at the health food store 99.9% pure for $13 for 4 oz. The one at the feed store was 99.9% pure and $9 for 16 oz. So I bought that and have seen no ill effects. What is medicinal grade DMSO? How can it be more pure than 99.9%? So I guess the horse DMSO is medicinal grade. Does anyone know what is what with this issue? Am I missing something?

Also, I have not dared to take this internally but I guess a lot of you do. I will have to read more about it.

I have enjoyed reading so many of your posts. I also read that DMSO should not be used daily but some of you have used it daily, and internally, for decades. And there you are: alive!

Roberta,

Veterinary DMSO is pharmaceutical grade. What you MUST avoid is industrial grade primarily because of the trace solvents present.

First time trying DMSO. Just received my order (via Amazon), distributed by a construction/materials company. Claimed to be pharmaceutical grade (at least 99.9% pure, and undiluted), with a glass roll-on bottle and a 16oz refill bottle which is #2 HDPE plastic, the recommended material.

I heard that it doesn't have a scent, or very little. But this stuff has a chemically smell (not sulfur or garlic or other things described as normal). How would I know if it's actually what it claims to be?

I have been using it for a few days, straight on the skin, sometimes with coconut oil after application. There's only a fleeting and mild heating-up sensation. Haven't experienced any garlicky taste. Some itching later, but not more than I get from using transdermal magnesium chloride, which is really itchy to me. Except that with the DMSO I sometimes get itching in places where I had not even applied it to (like the back of my neck, which broke out in itchy bumps like mosquito bites after sweating).

Another question: I had also dropped some in my mouth with iodine, as Walter Last suggested on is website for possible deep tooth problems (may have a problem with a root canal from over a year ago, which never fully stopped hurting). But then I thought about the 3 fillings I have left, made up of the old style mercury amalgam. Not to mention whatever material it is that filled the root canal. What's the probability that the DMSO would leech the mercury and other materials quickly and directly into my blood (even across the blood-brain barrier)? And more so than would happen anyways without it?

I have been drinking a bit of DMSO too, in mint tea (with a shot of Borax dissolved in purified water, and sometimes a few drops of Lugol's, and ACV which had eggshells steeped in it for calcium). Probably not more than a quarter to a half teaspoon of DMSO yet. I'm undecided as to whether I should be doing this or not, but seemed to be worth a try.

I will be getting magnesium chloride, and a bottle of colloidal mineral liquid, ascorbic acid powder, and MSM powder. Maybe to make a mixed solution with, to add some DMSO to and drink.

Any suggestions or potential reasons this may not be a good idea?

Thanks.

I'm always surprised about people who overdo or overdose or overtake things, substances be it good or bad! Do you really have to take so many things. All natural doesn't mean all good or safe. DMSO can be dangerous if you don't study about it. It brings everything that touches into your blood stream. Many years ago an Irish woman who used DMSO died but also she was under other medication, because of this DMSO got a bad name in US. It's written cause unknown. I guess she was taking other medications and may be DMSO triggered and brought into her system more than she was supposed to. Please read carefully what you must be careful when you use DMSO. NOT only DMSO though, better not to take too many kinds of things other than health food and drinks. More doesn't mean better often less is better heal slowly. Your filtering system can only take that much to detox and throw out of your body, if you do too much in a short period of time, your liver, kidneys, colon and bladder can't throw out toxins as fast as you detox your system. You MUST give your filtering system time to work accordingly. You are abusing your organs by taking too many things which you believe that they are good for health. Being Extreme is a DANGEROUS ATTITUDE. Balance your mind first then think of physical health.

A friend sent me the book, The Persecuted Drug, The Story of DMSO. It was published in 1973 but is chilling how ruthless the FDA was then and now. How they punish people for the pure pleasure of it and protect the mamoth drug industry. I worked for Crown Zellerbach in the 60's and was aware of DMSO, but not like this book describes. It was made in their mill in Boguloosa, La. and I knew the supervisor of the plant. He said no employee that worked in that area had ever had a cold or the flu. All employees stole the product to give to old relatives who had arthritis and such. They all knew of it's benifits first hand.

Anyway, I encourage you to buy and read this old book. DMSO is a product that could revolulationize medicine if given a chance. You can use it on a million dollar horse, but it is against the law for you to receive its benifits. Why? It is too cheap and is not patentable.

I promise you that if you read this book and don't shed a few tears, then you are a hard person. The FDA is exposed with this story. They ruined a number of good dedicated doctors to prove that they are omnipotent.

As Dr Jacob says, horses don't know about plecabo's or double blind tests. It it works , they run, if not , then they don't run. Sounds right to me.

Please read the book.

Hi Robert Henry, I read the same book as well. The one book that led me to this one mentioned on your post was titled The Heritic. I believe that is the title, by Mendelsohn(?). He mentioned DMSO aside from many interesting facts that involved the medical field during the fiasco with DMSO and the FDA. I had forgotten about DMSO until I read the first Trudeau book about a year ago and noticed that he mentioned The Heritic book in his. I have been slowly purchasing the books that Trudeau has mentioned in his book to help me along in understanding DMSO. Very fascinating. I still want to find out how I can orally take it if what I have is the 99.9% gel with 10% distilled water. I am psyched out with this stuff as well!

HU U MYSTIC SAGE, , , , , , , , , ,

This is not the only natural medical thing that gives me concern that the Traditional Medical folks fight tooth and nail. We have cleaned out our blood vessels with EDTA Chelation and have used the CEDSA to learn of the parasites that have taken us over. That is now a thing of the past. We main line Glutithione to avoid Dementia. We have yet to receive the blood test results that was developed by Purdue U that tells you 5 to 7 years ahead of time that you have cancer on the way and has a protocol to combat the problem. That will be a biggie.

These are all things to keep you from having these problems. I am just a lowly Ch E. But I think DMSO works best as a carrier in an IV situtation. Dr. Jacob is the authority on DMSO, but the Gov. has cowed this great man.

My latest project is to use a lowly Egg Plant solution to treat the Actinic Kerartosis which covers my face before it becomes cancerous.

Love you all ======ROBERT HENRY=====

Hi guys, here is the DMSO chapter you mention, as permitted by the book author to be read for free online: http://healthnews.benabraham.com/html/fountain_of_youth_-_nature_s_h.html. It is a heart breaking story. It makes me outraged that something so healing has been suppressed by those who were originally meant to promote the public interest. Of course we see this with many cheap, unpatentable therapies such as oxygen, IV vitamin c for cancer, using your own blood that has been subjected to uv light for hidden viruses etc. The list of forbidden, cheap, life saving herbs and therapies is quite long. If we had better education about and access to these things all chronic illness would be much easier to cure. Pharmaceuticals and surgery would become virtually obsolete.

I put a complete copy of the book DMSO: The Persecuted Drug by Pat McGrady as a mirror of the other copy so that there is a second copy on the web. Having several backups of information like this is helpful. What I see is that the Medical Industrial Complex has control issues and they don't like people learning too much and they use the police power of the state to enforce their arbitrary codes/laws. There is no money to be made in fees on DMSO. It is not patentable because it is a natural substance. This is a miracle substance and it is cheap and it does major good. Nobody is interested in cheap because there is no profit to be made. There is no money telling people to use a product they can go to the store and buy themselves. To Mystic Sage, you had asked a question about your DMSO gel that was 99.9 percent pure. The gel formulation of DMSO contains an agent in it called carpobol and I quote and just substitute the DMSO for the first word. [0162] (Ophthalmic) [editor note here: DMSO] gels suitable for treatment of the eye include a compound or compounds of the invention suspended in a hydrophilic base, such as Carpobol-940 or a combination of ethanol, water and propylene glycol (e.g., in a ratio of 40:40:20). A gelling agent, such as hydroxylethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose or ammoniated glycyrrhizinate, is used. A preservative and/or a tonicity agent may optionally be included. --[Source: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20110171306] And this site of the company that makes it and appears owns it: http://www.lubrizol.com/Carbopol/default.html What about just plain DMSO, Capeech? .

[YEA]   This week I did something different. For two day I drank two tablespoons of 99.99 DMSO once in the morning and once in the evening and each time it was in 20 ounces of pure water and drank over a period of time. I am here to report what happened. I felt good. I went outside in sub zero temperatures and shoveled snow for short periods of time.I was painless for 2 days. I felt like a younger man as far my energy level goes. It messed with my appetite because I did not feel like eating at regular intervals which helps me control my blood sugar stability. So that has to be watched more carefully next time. Symptoms of blood sugar roller coaster were apparent by the end of the second day. It is reactive hypoglycemia (see Blaylock on the internet video section). Before I went outside I rolled cayenne extracted in alcohol onto my back with some DMSO too. That helped me feel really warm in all the winter clothing. I also took 250 mg of Niacin before going out side too and it was perfect because the flushing and heat generated in the skin kept me feeling perfectly comfortable. I had to come in for my ears sake and eyes sake. I used common sense but it seemed to help me accomplish what needed done on those two extremely cold days. That is my report on the DMSO.

I am looking into this idea of "Oil Pulling". And if it does work, why would DMSO not be a good idea? DMSO has some of the characteristics of an oil. I started last night with DMSO and I did it this morning too. I used pure 99.9 percent pure DMSO. It has a warming effect. I did not find it objectionable at all. I would be careful using DMSO as an oil pulling "oil". The bacteria from any dental plague in your mouth will get absorbed into your bloodstream and might cause heart problems like Infectious Endocarditis. If I were you, I would only use the traditional oils that have been used for centuries in this particular technique.

[YEA]   It does not make sense to me that the DMSO would draw into the blood stream a large thing like a bacteria. It is too big. I would not think it could make it though the blood barrier. From what I understand is that DMSO transports light, small molecules.

My issue with "Oil-Pulling" with DMSO is the tooth throbbing I get in one of my mid teeth. I do like the sensation of the warming that I get though. Like a gentle heat pad for the mouth. I don't "Oil-Pull" with DMSO every day.

I have been very satisfied with the DMSO I bought from Robert L. Brock at DMSO.net his DMSO is 99.996 % pure. That is good enough for me. All I could find local is 99 % and that leaves 1% of unknown. That might be fine for a silver coin but not for DMSO. I know this stuff is pure because it freezed right at the tempurature of the chemical. It was 65 degrees and it was frozen solid. The freezing point is 65.4 degrees of pure DMSO.

Response- to take anything above the chest 5-10% solution. Anything below the chest you can go higher. Internal use I have mixed it with wormwood in a 5% soultion and have used tsp amounts without any issue--remember this is a solvent so as a solvent this will penetrate lipids and the brain is a lipid so anything north of the chest line- reduce this will apply as well with some of the essential oils. Some are potent solvents and penetrents. Hope this helped.

Posted by Aja (North Plainfield, NJ) on 11/01/2008

Be very careful with DMSO (Dimenthyl Sulfoxide). As a chemist, I've used DMSO and it is a great compound because it is an EXTREMELY effective solvent.

The reason that the FDA is against DMSO for home use is because it basically dissolves almost anything and takes it along for the ride. Since it is readily absorbed into the skin, anything dissolved in it is also absorbed. This can be dangerous if you inadvertantly come in contact with a hazardous chemical while using DMSO. Many things that are safe when placed on the skin aren't necessarily so when they are absorbed into the body.

DMSO should be stored in glass containers (not plastic) and whatever area on the body it touches should be extremely clean. Be very conscious of not contaminating your bottle by dipping anything into it and make sure any container you use is also clean. As long as you're careful, you shouldn't have any problems.

Basically he made one major error here when he writes,

DMSO should be stored in glass containers (not plastic) and whatever area on the body it touches should be extremely clean.

DMSO is sold by chemical suppliers generally in plastic containers (mine is from Fisher Scientific -picture of my DMSO is shown here) and it doesn't dissolve anything. Alcohol and acetone can dissolve certain things, namely plastic. But nothing dissolves organic compounds, such as skin, tissue, except through the process of digestion. And that is the job of Ebola, MRSA, your stomach acid to name a few. So it is technically doubtful that a REAL CHEMIST would say that DMSO should be stored in a glass container. DMSO doesn't go through the plastic containers sold by chemical suppliers.

DMSO is actually a byproduct of paper manufacturing processes, and the paper mill tried to get rid of it by pouring on to the coal tar roads. It was a disaster, as all the animals, such as deer, squirrels started licking up this miraculous substance. And it was later that a chemist name Dr. Stanley Jacobs was looking for a suitable compound to preserve heart from damage during transportation to protect them and found DMSO by chance. It's antioxidant ability had that capability from preventing damage, but it had wide uses in a chemical fields since it offers cells to receive oxygen where blood vessels can't reach. The woman who posted the cat was right on.

The DMSO can go through the cells receiving oxygen to cells that are dying helping it revived and this is why DMSO is ideal in emergency situations such as a stroke, or brain damage situation.

To make a long story short, I used DMSO mixed with water to reduce irritation, but MSM can do it too, although it won't have that recognition in emergency situation mentioned, since MSM doesn't go through the cells as easily as a DMSO.

Hi, Ted! Can you help me informing where to buy DMSO in Bangkok?

I plan to do the recomendations of Dr.David Gregg dissolving Vitamin B12 in DMSO:

"The absorption of vitamin B12 requires a highly specialized process which tends to become less effective with age...I realized that if I dissolved vitamin B12 in DMSO, it might carry it directly to my blood stream through my skin. I tried it and the results were dramatic for me, far greater than any impact I had ever felt from oral or sublingual tablets. I put some of my vitamin B12 tablets obtained at a health food store into a two liquid ounce bottle with an eyedropper and filled it with DMSO. It took a couple of days for the tablets to fall apart. Once they did, I put an eyedropper load on one arm and rubbed it in. In approximately one hour I started to feel very good, which was a sense of general strength and well being."

Thanks in advance!

Please be advised that DMSO is highly absorbed into the bloodstream and has a high risk of causing sterilization in humans. Although I highly recommended pain and swelling reliever one should use great caution when applying it to an animal by wearing gloves or know for a fact you are done having children before using it on yourself. DMSO causing infertility? I think that is quite the opposite of the truth: DMSO is used often to increase fertility in animals--most often cows/bulls, as far as I know. I'm sure using DMSO on your leg will be just fine. Also, DMSO is used very often in human in-vitro fertilization. After they fertilize eggs in the petri dish, and form zygotes, they are soaked in DMSO prior to cryo freezing. These frozen embryos make healthy babies at a really good rate after they are implanted.

The problem with one misstatement of fact is that it travels around the world in a split second. I recommend reading DMSO the persecuted drug, before making statements like DMSO causes sterility in humans. Either you have not done any research or somebody told you something and instead of checking it out and confirming or disproving, you just posted it. In law a perjured person is a person who has spoken a lie, whether or not intentional does not matter. Now, are you speaking that you personally have been sterilized and the blood tests have come back that DMSO did that to you? Well, please grace us with the report because if that is true then we must be careful to avoid this deadly substance. What ever your issue is, please research before spewing it. Thank you.

I have been doing a DMSO hair growth trial on myself using DMSO, allantoin and phosphytilserine. The DMSO is there mainly as a carrier but it helps as antioxidant. Our bodies natural response to inflammation is to oxidize the crap out of the injured area which isn't always necessary, especially in autoimmune disorders.

Wow I've heard of DMSO more than a year ago but never actually used it. Anyone who suffers from years of cold sores needs to know about the High L-Lysine and Low L-Arginine diet. It is this high ratio that keeps viruses dormant. Stress depeletes l-lysine and so does sugar, exercise and sex and ongoing insufficient sleep which also reduces other stress coping chemistry. Think how many times outbreaks occur in conjunction with these events in your life.

It hs basically come down to my finding only 3 really high L-lysine low L-arginine foods.
PLAIN WHITE YOGURT (goats cuz cows are too polluted)
Quinoa (also Gluten Free and complete protein)
Figs wow what a super food, eat freah and dried year round

Any time I still feeling a tingle I go for the yogurt and it stops and dies very quickly. I only found Quinoa 2 years ago and figs last year. I have wanted to give up dairy for years and can't because I need the L-lysine basically to survive without sores.

NOW I am actually gonna go across the street and pick up a bottle on my way to the kitchen and stop eating yogurt for as long as possible ;^)

Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes. Blue Monkey

[YEA]  Hi there I just have to say that I have battled cold sore for my entire life since I was a very small child. These are embarassing and very sore. I found out about DMSO and purchased some. I put it on my lip as soon as I feel that tingling feeling that comes prior to an outbreak. Since using this product the cold sore does not become visable. I am thankful and recommend others who suffer to give it a try.

[YEA]   I had a cold sore yesterday with a blister. It had started in the morning but I didn't notice it till I got to work. I decided to try dmso on it since I had some on my desk. (I ordered it a few weeks ago since I had read that you could use internally which I have yet to figure out what the protocal of that might be) I dabbed it on about 5 times throughout the day. I definetely felt that something was happening but the blister itself remained. About 7pm last night I accidently brushed the blister and it popped, without any pain. The blister was "dead". It is healing today. I HAVE NEVER EVER had a blister that was fully blistered heal so quickly. Once a blister has formed it usually means that you are in for the full program. ten days of a big patch of red gue by your lip and then scabbing and healing finally at the end.

[YEA]   I also use DMSO successfully for herpes. If an outbreak starts I put DMSO in the base of the spine and also on the sores themselves. Another great discovery I made recently is that my iron stores get low and this is why I am prone to getting outbreaks. The virus and my immune system compete for iron!
