Two Potent Remedies for Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

I have been taking your Now HA remedy for one week and out of pain with my DDD disease. Should I take 2 capsules 3 times daily now that I am out of pain? Thanks so much for helping people.

It would depend on the severity of the damage, but it would be useful to add other supplements to the HA to help repair the intervertebral disc such as melatonin, grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE), berberine, astaxanthin and andrographis with 10% or more of andrographolide.

You can start with the HA and Stopain. If no relief within a month try adding one of the others for a month and then add more if needed, but never do all of them at once because if you are reactive to one, you won't know which one is the problem and will have to stop and start over again with the HA.

Also consider getting 20 minutes of earlier morning sun every morning to get infrared (IR) light exposure from the sun. Let your back face the sun with clothes on. The IR will penetrate clothing, reduce spinal inflammation and increase melatonin in the cerebrospinal fluid which will be useful. Start with the HA, Stopain and earlier morning sunlight. The morning sun exposure may also help you sleep if you are having trouble sleeping. Give these three a full month before considering adding another supplement. If it is practical, get the morning sun in an area with significant greenery in the immediate area as this will increase your IR exposure.

To update this thread (1/16/23), I just had a conversation with Steve regarding his successful use of the HA capsules and Stopain for Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) and he told me that he has not needed to even occasionally use the Stopain for over 3 months and the pain is gone! He is still taking the HA capsules but is considering taking a break to see if the pain starts to come back, but hasn't made up his mind yet because he is just very happy to be out of pain and doesn't really want to risk having pain even for a little while. I can't blame him!

I am so very happy for you! It sounds like you got very good relief for your DDD with the HA capsules and IBS-d with the melatonin! Zinc may also be of benefit for the IBS-d.

I decided to continue taking the double strength HA and am pleased to report that it has given my back great relief! I worked up to 3 capsules per day. I have 3 herniated lumbar disc's, since 2006. When I found your article about HA, I thought why not give it a try! I also thought I should mention your idea about gut health, I have IBS-D, and noticed an improvement in that department as well! I use melatonin every night, so maybe this combination is the answer to years of pain! Thank you!

My bottle says specifically to take with food. You could try it one more time, but if just one capsule upset your stomach, it will not be possible for you to take the full dose. You should just return the bottle and look for another remedy for DDD on Earth Clinic.

Question about double strength HA for Art,,,, the bottle doesn't say whether to take with food or on empty stomach. I took it with food this morning and now have an upset stomach and headache. I only took one because I sometimes react to certain supplements. This is the first time I bought this Now brand. Any advice?

I don't use bulk powder, I use the following which I have found to be at least as effective as bulk powder and much more convenient. It is what I recommend because it is what I found that worked well. Some people have reported difficulties in trying to mix the bulk powder and it requires refrigeration between uses and that is two more reasons that I went with the one that I use. :

I went and checked and I happened to have some bulk HA and measured it out on a digital scale. It appears that a level full one quarter teaspoon measuring teaspoon is approximately 500 mg, but keep in mind that measuring spoons can vary in actual size from one set to another and from country to country.

Hello Art, thank you for responding to me so quickly! I already made an order for HA that is 1.05 million daltons. It will arrive in a bag with no scoop, so I am wondering what spoon would be appropriate for measuring out 500 mg of powder?

For the purpose of DDD I use Sodium Hyaluronate(HA) which is in the range of 400, 000 ~ 1, 000, 000 Daltons and is considered a low molecular weight HA, but there are lower and higher form of HA available.

Holly, I read from a Newsletter from Dr David Brownstein, that all cysts are caused by low Iodine. I have put just Drug Store Iodine Tincture on cysts topically and they disappeared in a couple of days. I also take Lugol's 5% Iodine internally. I take 2 drops at approximately 12.5 mg up to 16 drops at 100 mg. Get rid of the cyst and then the pain will stop!!

I would try castor oil soaks over the cyst area. I used this treatment successfully for years for another internal issue being severe crippling menstrual cramps. I applied soaks for one hour everyday (for years) and after a short while I had no more pain ever. These castor oil soaks will break up cysts also.

Sent with a prayer for healing.

I am using the borax/DMSO application on my lower back for about a week so far. I haven't found relief yet. I got the Stopain roll on and love it! Just finally ordered the HA this morning and can't wait to try it! I have 3 herniated discs and deal with tremendous pain since 2006. Yes, Stopain is one of the best over the counter topical pain relievers and using it alongside of the Hyaluronic Acid is helpful in giving quicker relief for DDD. I would think that its anti inflammatory qualities are useful in slowing damage. Together they seem to make a good pair for the purpose. Please update as your HA test progresses.

I am very happy that the Hyaluronic Acid and Stopain for DDD is working so well and so rapidly for both you and your husband, but especially for you because clearly, you were in a tremendous amount of pain!

I would like to mention an issue that I am seeing with this remedy. Often times when people get this significant relief of their DDD, it seems to be a natural reaction to just do more and harder things than normal. This can temporarily worsen the condition. As you mentioned, you were diagnosed with DDD 10 to 15 years ago and you have accrued damage over these many years and that damage takes time to try and repair. So don't overdo and have a good recovery! Please update as you notice improvements.

I was told ten or fifteen years ago I had DDD. The pain had gotten so bad that at times it was hard to take a deep breath or stand straight. Standing in the kitchen doing dishes or chopping veggies where I had to lean forward slightly was the worse. I started this about three weeks ago. Within three days I noticed an improvement. Now I barley feel any pain and don't really need to use the Stopain. I do before bed just to ensure a better night's sleep. Not only has it helped my back, but also aches in other joints. I started giving it to my husband. He too can't believe the results in only about a week, especially in his knees. This really is a miracle. The hyaluronic acid and Stopain are for degenerative disc disease, not cysts, so I would be doubtful if they will be effective for eliminating a cyst. The Stopain may help reduce swelling and inflammation caused by the cyst and possibly some of the pain, but if the cyst gets larger, it will lose effectiveness.

The dosage Steve and RW used was 3 of the NOW Double Strength capsules (100 mg each) or 300 mg per day total.

Stopain is usually available online or at local drug stores like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart etc.

My friend, Steve reported very similar to what you have just reported. I think when the pain diminishes, the tendency is to go back to doing things that you used to do awhile back or basically overdo it and exacerbate the disc situation, at least temporarily. It took years to get to this point and repair will take time also. Be careful not to overdo and it will be a more comfortable recovery. Thank you for the extra feedback!

Thank you, Art. I bought the HA you recommended from Amazon along with the Stop Pain, and will continue indefinitely with the HA and melatonin. I was cleaning my house this morning, and my back was getting worse as I was moving some ottomans and tables and vacuuming. I got out the Stop Pain and HA, and now I am pretty much pain free! It's almost unbelievable how fast it works! If the pain goes away like your friend's did, I will still continue with the HA and melatonin, as you suggest. I had osteoporosis the last I was tested, which was years ago, and would like to at least get back to osteopenia. I am also taking some multiple type collagen when I think of it. All in all, I am a happy camper today thanks to your remedies! I appreciate your suggestions so much. Thank you!

Could this be used in conjunction with DMSO? I have a dear friend that is experiencing severe pain in her back due to an inoperable cyst that is pressing on the spinal cord. I have her using the DMSO, but some days she needs a but more relief.

What is HA?

Hi Art, which HA should I look for? I searched online and so many have extra ingredients like mag stearate etc. I have the stopain roll on, it certainly feels good. Just wasn't sure which HA? Thank you!

I am also allergic to sulfa but MSM is not the same thing, it is an organic sulfur so that should be ok, unless you are also allergic to sulfur then of course you need to avoid it too.

I have another friend who is unable to use MSM because of an allergic reaction to topical application, but was able to use Stopain also! It is one of the best over the counter topical pain relievers available.

I'm glad you are also able to take and tolerate melatonin because it is also beneficial for degenerative discs.

Most importantly, I am glad you are improving and so quickly!

Btw, you may be happy to know that I talked to my friend Steve today who used this remedy and he said his pain level continues to decline every week and told me the pain is barely noticeable now and no longer needs the Stopain for it!

I asked him to continue with the the HA and melatonin even when his pain is completely gone. The reason for this is because you have DDD well before you have symptoms or pain and that means that just because you no longer have pain, it does not mean that your discs have fully recovered.

I have been taking your suggestions for the HA supplement and the Stop Pain for a week or so. I was afraid to take the Stop Pain because I have an allergy to Sulfa, (MSM) and debated whether to take it or not, but finally tried it and have found the topical to work well and give me no problems. I can't believe the relief in my back and shoulders this provides! I will continue with both and hope to improve even more. Thank you for your post and research. I feel so much better now. Also take your melatonin suggestion every night for all the benefits. I try to go outside to get some sun for the melatonin, but the weather and sun haven't yet cooperated too frequently in OH. Should start to improve very soon! Thank you for all you do to help everyone here on Earth Clinic. You are so generous with your research and postings, and have helped so many. I have benefitted for years and am very grateful.
