Pulsatile Tinnitus
09/13/2012: Ben Goh from Miri, Malaysia: "For about 1 year, I hear my heart beat in my left ear. I think they call it pulsatile tinnitus. It was so annoying that at one time I was even hospitalised because of very high blood pressure 235/110.
I'm extremely panicky, sense heart beat on my chest, very fatigue even just talking a few words, constantly evaluating/thinking/worrying in my mind, weak hands and legs, high-pitched tinnitus in my left ear, fear of loud sounds, almost paranoid-like.
What is it?
How do I cure it?
Is it electrolyte imbalance?
Is it skeletal out of balance?
Is it lack of exercise?
Help, save me!!"
09/13/2012: Linda from York County, Southern Maine replies: "Hello Ben Goh - I can report that I first noticed pulsatile tinnitus around the same time I discovered I had Graves' Disease (hyperthyroidism).... Has your thyroid function been tested? I experienced heart flutters, overall jittery feeling (I thought I consumed too much caffeine), also a loud whooshing in my ears. Not sure if there IS a cure for tinnitus, I'm sorry to say. Note: hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can exhibit some of the same symptoms. Best Wishes in gaining some relief~"
09/14/2012: Ah Kong from Labuan, Malaysia replies: "Hello Ben Goh, By TCM, it sounds like you have symptoms of blood and qi (force) deficiencies. Either you are losing blood somewhere or your body does not get enough nourishment for blood.Check your tongue in the mirror for futher confirmation. Do you see signs of blood deficiency? Any cracks in the middle?
I think you may need a blood transfusion or should eat food that nourishes your blood and qi.
Ted from bangkok, do you second my diagnosis?"
09/14/2012: Mae from Edmonton, Ab, Canada replies: "Tinnitus is annoying and one can seldom find why it happens or why it quit.Of more concern is the anxiety and panic. I have no idea what is causing any of your symptoms and am not any kind of expert. I had a friend who was sure he was losing his mind as over a few weeks he was getting more frightened and worried and exhausted. He took 1000 mcg of vitamin B12 - the kind you put under your tongue because that's the only way the body can absorb it - and felt a dramatic difference within an hour! His anxiety left immediately, it took a few weeks to get all of his energy back. (As a side note, he is 70, has hearing loss in one ear and has had intermittant tinnitus for a very long time.)
This may not be what you need, but it's cheap, easy and won't hurt you.
Good luck!"

Re-Alignment
02/15/2012: James from Colorado Springs, Co/usa: "I had an intuition and I wanted to help you I wanted to give you the answer why your hearing is occluded. If you think of your ear as an antenna and that it also has a speaker which is direct wired to your brain. You would probably agree that if it is to receive properly it must be tuned and adjusted. Your ear is receiving the signal because these is a misalignment in your neck and the cartilage of your earlobe.
I know this sounds odd but you can rid yourself of it with a few simple things. In reality they are a series of stretches and contractions. If you perform each one for 5 minutes or so a day it will go away quickly. After each crack do it a few more movements with tension on to realign the facet joint. In fact repeat that after each crack just cause you found it does mean you aligned it.
1. Remember when you stood at attention in the army? They made you tuck your chin in.. Do this as tight as you can until you hear a crack in the ear or the jaw with the ringing.
2. Do shoulder shrugs until you hear your mid neck crack.
3. Firmly grasp the earlobe at the front and gently pull until you hear the crack..... Gently continue.
4. There are 5 prive points around the earlobe which are available for adjustment and alignment.
5. Turn your chin to the side and try to touch your chin stretch unit you hear the crack
6. Do both sides for the sake of spinal alignment for the flow of kundalini. After all the sound is misaligned energy reverberating in your ear drum! Lean your neck back a much as you can tolerate. The pull of the chin by smiling until you hear the crack.....
7. You can manipulate the shoulders to address your headaches mostly the right one.
8. Lye on your back... Lift your stiff legs up together like you are trying to touch your forehead but again you arrive at the range of motion limit which you will know by the crack the stretch a bit more.
9. Squeeze 3 to 5 drops of juice from a white onion into the ear cannel let it rest 10 to 15 minutes in the canal.
10. Take a soft piece of cotton and with a cork screw motion work it into the ear cannel. After you have drained the canal. As you twist it out there will be a small amount of black particles.... Your sign that you have clear the film of sludge.... Repeat in your spare time and it will dissipate in a short period of time. If you want to be lazy you need to find an osteopath he stretches the muscle which aligns the joint (maybe therapeutic massage with gentle head manipulation........ Not a chiropracter he forces the joint... I was also told that I should say if we tune the antenna we tune the brain... , having a direct path to the brain lets us cleanly process the signal we resonate in harmony and frequency with.

10/12/2012: Colleen from Greenwich, Ny, Us: "I just realized from reading this website that the sporadic which has become constant heartbeat in my left ear is actually tinnitus. I always thought my heartbeat was being amplified through the fluid my chiropractor found in my ear. It all started after I would drink alcohol. I could have just 1 drink and the next morning I would have it only in my left ear. The more I drank the longer it would last, so I believed it was dehydration. Now I don't have to drink and I have it pretty regularly. I found adjustments help and i've gotten relief from putting garlic oil in that ear at night but i've had it consistantly for the last 3 days. I got adjusted with no relief.
My question is... I don't have the ringing and i'm looking for people who also have the heartbeat sound with not ringing. Are the treatments the same for both the ringing and heartbeat sound or are they treated differently? I've always taken ACV but i'm going to get more consistant with it and hope it helps. I guess i'm just surprised to hear that this is tinnitus. I figured it was just fluid in the ears.
Thanks for any help and thank you Earthclinic for an amazing, informative website. We need more like this. Colleen"
Replies[YEA] 10/25/2012: Colleen from Greenwich, Ny, Us replies: "UPDATE: Since my last comment I started drinking apple cider vinegar regularly. Actually, right after I hit send I went and took 3 big swigs of ACV chased with water. Within the hour the 3 day pulsing had stopped in my left ear. I've done it everyday since and the most I get is the feeling that I could be on the verge of it pulsing again. I just take another swig and I keep it at bay. BIG YES for ACV!!!! I will ALWAYS drink ACV now just to prevent this tinnitus! Colleen"
04/28/2013: Colleen from Greenwich, Ny, Us replies: "UPDATE: In addition to taking ACV daily I now have added a tsp of cayenne pepper in orange juice every morning. It has worked perfect!!! I read that pulsatile tinnitus is due to artery weakness or an obstruction in the arteries, so I thought would be proactive and try to strengthen my heart and arteries. That's where the cayenne comes in and I''ll do it forever!!! So happy! Hope somebody else can benefit from my discovery!!!"
10/09/2012: Tony from Lyttelton, Christchurch, New Zealand: "Hi, I have had tinnitus for about 6 mths, prob, longer but the Ringing/hissing sound get louder and less louder sometimes. I think it was from my days of Riding/Racing Motorcycles. This year I have had quite a lot of Vertigo attacks, a couple that took me to hospital throwing up convulsively. I have tried h202 but not a lot of luck with it as after I lay down to sleep it is back in the morning. Usually when I have sinus/hayfever etc, . I have had my ears cleaned (suction) seemed ok for few says. Tried ear candeling. (sadly waist of money) had Antibiotics. No success there. Yep drives me crazy too. Any help gratefully accepted.Cheers."
Replies10/09/2012: Connie from Slc, Utah, Usa replies: "Hi Tony; Tinnitus and Vertigo may be symptoms of B12 deficiency. Sublingual methylcobalamin given daily may help. It may take some months to heal, and continued supplementation long term may be necessary.Sometimes, when beginning B12, there could be a strong stimulant reaction. Make sure your diet includes plenty of potassium and other minerals, such as zinc and copper, in good measure."
10/09/2012: Sp from Wb, New Jersey, Usa replies: "Hi Tony, I've had tinnitus for years. I don't know what to do about it. A few years ago I had a full month of completely debilitating vertigo. I had to sit still and not move my head at all. It was something I would not wish on my worst enemy. So I saw an ENT. He told me that it was caused by a virus that there was no treatment for and I'd just have to wait it out. He also said that as it cleared up, there would be smaller bouts of it as it petered out. He said hormonal changes were one trigger and I found that every time I'd have my period I would have a little vertigo at the beginning. (I know that doesn't apply to you.)He also told me how to stop vertigo once it started. You stare straight ahead and focus on one spot, like a crack on the wall, and do some deep breathing. By focusing both eyes on the same tiny spot ahead of you it brings back the balance in your head. (That's my description, not a clinical description. ) I do that when I get vertigo, and once the vertigo subsides I keep staring just a little longer. That gets rid of it immediately for me. I've shared this with other people who got hit with the virus and it helped them too. Good luck! "
09/16/2012: J.r. Smith from Buford, Georgia, United States: "I would like to know if you could possibly help me with the problem of Tinnitis ringing in the ears? This problem has gotten worse as time goes on sometimes the ringing is so loud I can not hardly hear when people are talking to me and of course i've had hearing tests and been to ENT all checks out. Still the noise persists any input or help you can offer will be greatly appreciated Thank You, J. R. Smith"
Replies09/18/2012: Art from Tustin, Ca. Usa replies: "J. R. Smith, Melatonin has shown itself to be helpful in alleviating tinnitus from multiple causes and might be worth considering:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20207491If you are taking things like ibuprofen at high dosages on a regular basis, that can be a cause of tinnitus as can many prescribed drugs. If you are currently taking any prescription meds, try researching them for tinnitus as a potential side effect.
Melatonin can increase glutathione as can n acetyl cysteine (nac) and nac alone or in conjunction with acetyl l carnitine can also be helpful for tinnitus of varying causes:

06/04/2012: Cher from Farmington, Nm: "I've had this in both ears as long as I can remember. Since I became deaf in my left ear (In the space of 3 days), the noise in that ear has become intolerable! It didn't bother me that much before, but now it's REALLY LOUD!! Any ideas??"
Replies06/05/2012: Oldriska from Prague, Czech Republic replies: "Hi Cher, I don't actually have tinnitus myself but I had hearing difficulties bc of my TMJ and among suggested treatment for both your and my condition was accupuncture. Do you know the root cause of your condition? Have you had anyone, perhaps a chiropractic, to look at your spine, especially your neck spine? A problem located there could be causing your problems, if that was the case, I would try to address that issue first."
09/15/2011: Remmo from Rockaway, Nj: "I've had tinnitus since 1997 in both ears and when the tinnitus first started there was a slight hearing loss in my right ear only. While being treated by an ENT hearing tests over a six month period showed significant hearing loss in my right ear to the point that I could no longer make out words. No cause was ever found for my hearing loss, the only thing they found was that I had a high concentration of herpes. I take 1000g per day of Lysine to help control the herpes. This continued for about 10 years until in 2007 when I had a vertigo attack, where everything was spinning and I felt nausea. A return to the ENT showed that after the attack I was now completely deaf in my right ear.
At this point I felt off-balance all the time and I could make the room spin when positioning my head so that the deaf ear was pointing towards the ground. Eventually this improved to the point that I felt almost normal but I still get periodic dizziness or off-balance feelings when I have sinus pressure issues or even when a new weather front comes through. Somehow the pressure in my head affects something in my ear that controls balance and I get dizzy. I always feel a sense of fullness or pressure in my right ear but when supplemented by sinus or weather system pressures it's much worse and sometimes is painful, especially to the touch. Recently my feeling of being off-balance or dizzy all of the time has returned.
My doctors have no solutions for my issues other than various exercises called the Epley Maneuver. At this point it would be a miracle if my hearing ever came back or if the constant ringing went away but there should be at least something that can be done about not having to spend every day feeling like you're going to tip over because you feel off-balance or if you tumble around too much with your kids the room will suddenly start spinning out of control. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated."
Replies12/21/2011: Cowgirl from San Francisco, California replies: "Hi there, you need to read the post here on Tinnitus, there are at least a dozen ideas for you to try, some involving a possible infection you might have, some involving a possible heavy metal detox you may need to do. If you read them all you'll get a feeling for where to start to cure yourself. And you should read Ted's statements on taking Lysine every day for Herpes... It's a big DON'T. That's found in the posts on Herpes in the ailments sections."
05/05/2011: Ivan96canada from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada: "Hi all, My question is this..... My Tinnitus is from working in a loud factory for 13 years and due to hearing loss. Does the ACV formula work for this type of Tinnitus, or is it more for infections and blockages. Any feedback would be very helpful."
Replies09/18/2011: Bill from Prescott, Arizona replies: "My 77 year old wife has had Tinnitus for 30 years. Many doctor visits did nothing to help. We have an electrical device that uses heat, light and frequencies called LIGHT RELIEF (COST $100). We have had it for 5 years and used it for pain relief. My wife used it on her ear and it worked. The tinnitus is now down to being barely noticeable. Google it for the website. It works great."
12/24/2011: Luke from Pittsburgh, Pa replies: "Hi Bill,Care to explain in a little more detail what she did? Did she just hold the unit to her ear or what? Very interested in this as there does seem to be some evidence that laser therapy may help some people.

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 09/06/2008: June from KC, KS: "Hi EarthClinic!
I read somewhere that tinnitis is a symptom of premenopause. I cannot find where I read that but I began taking vitamin a to combat the problem because the same literature suggested it. It helped a lot. Recently, though, I forgot about taking vitamin a...and that it was a remedy for tinnitis...and the ringing is back in my ears! It's really an awful and annoying problem.
I started taking vitamin a again and am really hoping it relieves me of this problem again. It seemed to work before so I thought I would share it here as there is little information on EC about tinnitis. I did look up herbal remedies on a site where I sometimes buy supplements and it did say vitamin a is one possible treatment.
BTW, EarthClinic, the new website looks great! Very professional!
Thanks!"
06/02/2009: CarolB from Manahawkin, New Jersey, USA replies: "How much vitamin A are you taking?"

[YEA] 12/25/2008: June from KC, KS: "Over the past year I have suffered with tinnitis. It was very discouraging to be told by my naturepath that no one knows how to cure this! I believe my tinnitis was caused largely by hormonal disturbances. It is a symptom of early menopause. Tinnitis is also a symptom of heavy metal toxicity.
The problem was extremely annoying and made it difficult for me to concentrate or fall asleep. The sound was very high pitched.
Well, I always keep trying no matter what and I have another friend who recommended zeolite drops. Zeolite is a volcanic mineral that has a honeycomb structure. It has a charge that attracts heavy metals to it. It surrounds the particle and the body passes it out.
I used one bottle of the drops for about a month and it helped tremendously. My tinnitis disappeared to the point I forgot I had it. After I ran out of the drops, though, it came back again slightly. Not nearly as bad, though. I do plan to get more of this product. It's the only thing I've found that really helps."
12/31/2008: Helen from Ann Arbor, MI replies: "Did you put the ZEOLITE drops in your ear or did you take it orally? How much did you use each time? Thanks."
01/13/2010: Jerry from New York, Usa replies: "I'm writing to see if you ever received a reply regarding the use of the Zeolite drops. Would love feedback if you did. Thanks-j"
