"Lichen sclerosus (LS) is an uncommon disease of unknown cause that results in white patches on the skin, which may cause scarring, preferentially on and around genital skin.
Several risk factors have been proposed, including autoimmune diseases, infections and genetic predisposition. There is evidence that LS can be associated with thyroid disease."
"Women are more commonly affected than men, particularly around and after menopause, but younger women or girls may also develop the disease. The condition most commonly occurs on the vulva and around the anus with ivory-white elevations that may be flat and glistening. There may be marked itching or the condition may be without any symptoms. There may also be thinning and shrinkage of the genital area that may make coitus, urination and defecation painful.
In males, the disease may take the form of whitish thickening of the foreskin, which cannot be retracted easily (phimosis). In contrary to women, there is no perianal involvement. In men, this genital involvement has traditionally been known as balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO).
On the non-genital skin, the disease may manifest as porcelain-white spots with small visible plugs inside the orifices of hair follicles or sweat glands on the surface. Thinning of the skin may also occur." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen_sclerosus

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/15/2009: Mary from Valencia, Ca Usa: "I have had Lichen Sclerosus (LS) for 2 1/2 yrs with almost no itching but lots of inflammation and soreness. The steroid ointments just seemed to make it worse. I tried apple cider vinagar on a little cotton with water and this seems to help the inflammation. I can't wear underwear/long pants as it seems to irritate the area. Does anyone else have the same type of LS? I am tired of going around in my nightgown. Thanks"Replies
12/28/2009: Terlyn from Syracuse, Ny replies: "I have had LS for a few years to the puzzlement of my gyn until September when the white spotting finally appeared. I tried calendula oil then castor oil and now I am in my 2nd week of Neem oil with a green tree extract added 2 or 3X a day. It is messy but it brought me healing relief.
The others brought relief from the itching and bleeding which is a blessing but I want it to heal and not continue to split."
[YEA] 01/21/2011: Lori7nty7 from Nashville, Tn/usa replies: "Eliminate diet drinks, Soda and Crystal Light sweetened with aspartame from your diet. Aspartame is made out of wood alcohol, a toxin. When Aspartame 1st came out many years ago, I had the same symptoms, they now call Lichen Sclerosis. My doctor worked with me eliminating foods and drinks I was ingesting. We found my symptoms would elevate after aspartame drinks. After eliminating aspartame from my diet, I felt relief within a few weeks. Although it took a year to clear up all symptoms. I have been free of all symptoms for many years now. I read all labels, I do not eat or drink anything with aspartame."
01/30/2011: 3unicoyds from L.a., Ca Usa replies: "In 8/2010 I was diagnosed with L.S. After a routine pap. I am 45, on a high dose estrogen birth control pill. So lack of estrogen, confuses me. 1/2 my clitoris is closed up and I had NO SYMPTOMS! Needless to say I am shocked. I have been battling body pain for 2 years maybe fibromyalgia, symptoms are similiar and on several medications. I did recently test for HPV, but they say no connection. I am using steroid, but no change. Yahoo has an excellent support group for this too. But has anyone found anything to reverse the skin closing? I do not want to have surgery, but seriously my clit. Please there are few things in life I am not willing to give up and that is one of them. HELP. Thanks"
11/22/2011: Kim from Effingham, Il Usa replies: "Hello again on LS... Found something I wanted to share that is working for the elimination of the small white lesions and itching. It is called Scar-Zone. The zinc oxide and antioxidants completely resolve the itching and thinning/white lesions. I hope this helps someone with this dreaded disease. Not sure if it will completely resolve the issue. Please respond and let me know. Thanks."
12/09/2011: Leslie from Sydney, Australia replies: "There might be some hope for LS sufferers by using Zinc Oxide powder. I'm a 69 year old male and I first got LS at about age 30. After trying a few other treatments I tried simple ZnO powder. Within about 2 days most of the annoying symptoms were gone, and by 2 weeks it was like I never had LS (apart from a little scarring).. LS reappeared about a year ago and I treated it again with ZnO. Amazing, the clearing up of LS as I got 40 years ago. I don't think that the treatment can be as simple as ZnO, but it has worked miraculously for me both times. The reply of Kim from Effingham above is the first time I have seen mention of ZnO working for anybody else."
10/29/2012: Janet from Anglesey, Uk replies: "After months of suffering and using steroid creams to no effect I used zinc oxide and within 24 hrs the soreness, redness and discomfort had gone. I have only applied the cream 4 times but the affected area seems to be almost back to normal. Miraculous result"
11/10/2012: Sydney from Richmond, Virginia/usa replies: "I have had LS for 18 years. I have tried everything my doctor has suggested and had it under control for many years. About 1 1/2 years ago I had a flare up that has persisited. I am burning and itching. I can no longer use the prescription medications. I have tried Perrins products which helped at first but are no longer giving any relief. I am considering other options such as Emuaid and the Zinc Oxide powder or Scar-Zone mentioned above. I have tried Desitin which contains zinc oxide, in the past however, and am wondering if I need to even try to zinc oxide products. Can someone tell me if there is a significant difference? Has anyone tried the Emuaid?
Also, for immediate, calming relief there is a product which is mixed with water and used as a compress. It is available at most drug stores and is similar to the vinegar idea. I have used this for years with flare ups."
11/10/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hi replies: "I had Lichen Sclerosus and was misdiagnosed for a year. I got it under control by steroid creams but it was not gone. For a reason I don't need to go into, I bought someone a detox liquid called Essaic Tonic Tea (nonalcohol) and they didn't want it. So not to waste my money, I used the whole bottle and was cured! I told my friend with Lupus and she takes it and it is making her feel better. It is a miracle the way this stuff works. Its all natural and won't hurt you. I don't sell it, you have to go to a natual health food store and buy the nonalcohol formula."
01/20/2013: Mjf030947 from Las Vegas, Nv replies: "I have LS and want to know how to apply the essaic tonic."
02/21/2013: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hi replies: "You drink it."
08/19/2013: Kim from Florida replies: "To Daisy from Ewa Beach: Does the Essiac tonic still works for you? I was going to try it myself and was wondering if your LS ever came back?"

[YEA] 11/10/2013: Mom from New York: "Hi, I have had Lichen Sclerosus (LS) most of my life, it was finally diagnosed 2 years ago and I had surgery 1 year ago. It helped alot. I have tried apple cidar vinegar, it helps a lot, I also will drink it! This is a life savor. I have recenlty found that applying lavender essential oils made thy itching stop immediately! Try a spot to make sure it doesn't burn. It did not burn me, but was slightly warm. It did not cause any other yeast infections or BV at all, which I was worried about. I am one of those weird people who get both at the same time. Try it! It helped a lot!!!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 08/05/2012: Carol from Gardner, Ks.: "I too have LS. Was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago... I was prescribed the steroid cream and it caused atrophy really bad.. Clitoris disappeared.. I no longer use it. I have severe itching and pain when I urinate and it gets on labia. I read on here about the baking soda.. I tried it last evening but I added baby oil. I am simply amazed at the progress I made with this combination... I actually got some sleep... I also have sjogrens disease which is in the lupus family, I am diabetic, and have fibromyalgia... This combination has helped me more than anything I have tried... Any more input would be much appreciated. thanks so much for the baking soda tip...carol"Replies

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/31/2011: Jay from Pueblo, Co: "I am a 67 year old male. I have had Lichens since about age 50. It started with extreme pain in the anal area. It was so severe I used a linament intended for livestock for relief. It was not diagnosed until 3 years ago, and my GP and Dermatologist seemed baffled about the whole thing. I don't think I can describe how painful this condition has been, but at times it felt like I had a razor blade between my buttocks. I have been thru all the steroid creams etc. With no effect. About a year ago a friend recommended baking soda and it has been a lifesaver for me. I soak at least once a day in baking soda bath, and the pain relief has been miraculous. I can usually function for 8 to 10 hours without pain, however I am still plagued by itching. It is best described as like poison Ivy, the more you scratch the worse it gets. I believe that the itch is caused or aggravated by my coffee consumtion, and I am trying to cut back on that. I apply a cream after bathing (Nupercainal) and that usually gets me thru the day. The itch, which is driving me crazy, is usually at night and effects my sleep patterns. I only saw one reference to baking soda in earlier posts, but I can assure you that it has been extremely helpful to me in the relief of pain. I am hoping that eliminating coffee will relieve the itching and in the mean time , I use the same ointment for temporary relief, or just take another bath in very hot water with the baking soda."Replies

Why don't you try a series of 30 minute sitz baths using 1 tablespoon of borax washingn powder in the water, You could even throw in some baking powder if you wanted to. the borax is a powerfull fungicide, bacteria-cide, parasite-ide..... According to all reports on earthclinic.com.... Also safe to use. Even works on dog mange. Maybe throw in some hydrogen peroxide into the sitz bath also.
2nd idea: make yourself some garlic oil out of raw garlic infused in either virgin coconut oil, or cold pressed castor oil. Then use it as a lotion on the skin during the day. also a powerfull fungicide bacteria-cide. go to this website for directions on how to make it:
Garlic Oil Ointment
3rd idea - use castor oil as a anti-biotic salve on the area. It by its self is a anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. For some reason this is never pointed out by anyone. even the people who advocate it's use."
06/12/2012: Mo from Totnes, Uk replies: "Yes, I use castor oil. I agree with this. I use it in tandem with "Argile Verte" from France. This is green clay it comes in powder form. You mix it with clean water. I use spring water. And a wooden spoon. It has to be wooden. Mix it into a paste and apply. What a releif. It cools down takes the inflamation down and each time I go to the loo I wash and apply some more. If at home I wear no nickers. If at work I wear a pad. Et voila. I have lived with this condition for 20 years. I tried all sorts. I suffered undescribably, but never ever used sterpoid cream. One day I went along with and got the cream. It sat on the shelf after a year I took it back to the chemist. I know this condition is here for a reason. For me my reason is because I hated my genitals. Plus I loved myself less. Now I love me and my genitals. And I know I am getting closer and closer to healing this very stubborn conditions. Last of all. Go to the dead sea for 28 days. If you do not heal completely at least you will feel sooooo much better. I sat with my legs open facing the sun. 8 hours per day. Hard work but worth it. For releif I also have used ice packs. And what about colloidal silver? it is so good this spray. Helps stop the itch. Keep spraying. Above all don't give up. And don't "beat yourself up like I used to do. I still have LS but I've learnt to love my condition as it tels me when I do not take care of myself. Put yourself first. Love yourself you're not a freak. Tke care of it because you love yourself not because you are afraid it might get worse. It's all in the mind. I was 42 when I first was diagnosed with it and now I am 62. I couldn't be any happier in my life because I can say that now I love myself. Thank you for reading this."
07/25/2012: Mommywantstomakeit Better from Lebanon, Missouri, Usa replies: "Hello. Thank you for this website. I did not know how serious this condition was until reading comments. My five year old daughter was recently dx with Lichen Sclerosus at her five year well check up. Before that, she was always complaining about it itching and hurting. I assumed she was getting a bladder infection, and gave her cranberry juice, since she always complained about it when she urinated; or, that she had pinworms, since she seemed to be the only one of the kids who got them. Her vagina always looks irritated. After the doctor diagnosed her, he gave her some Elidel. It helped with the itching at first, but it would make it hurt worse. I don't know what to do. I just want to make it better. Also, she had a genital wart and it went away, and the dr thinks that is how she got the LS. Also, I have hypothyroidism and heard some of the comments say it is hereditary and a possible cause of LS. Please help me. She is only five, and I don't know what to try for such a young age afflicted by LS. After reading your comments, I understand the pain she is going through. I just want her to be healthy and happy. Please help me to make it all better."
11/05/2012: Lydnatmom from Jeffersonville, In replies: "My daughter is 4 and recently diagnosed. I don't know much about it either yet. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone and it's nice to know (even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone, ESPECIALLY a child) that me and my daughter aren't alone either. I know with my daughter I have stopped making her wear underwear and just have her in sweat pants most the time. NEVER in jeans and that seems to help a LOT. Also her doc prescribed Lidocaine in addition to the clobetasol and it seems to really help too. The doc told us not to use any soap "down there" and only soap free products for the rest of her body. I hope something in here helps you! Good luck to your daughter!"
11/10/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hi replies: "Try nonalcohol Essiac Tonic Tea. It cured me of my LS and I discovered accidentally. It's all natural and you get it from a health food store. You can put liquid drops is water. Let me know if it works for you. I am so amazed and happy."
11/16/2012: Rsw from Uniontown, Oh replies: "Hi Daisy, Can you tel us how long you took the essiac tea tonic and how many times a day did you take it? How many drops? You are the first person who has ever been cured of LS that I have seen. I have Lichen Planus and have been trying to cure it for almost ten years. My doctor and dentist admit they don't understand the disease. Mine is all internal and systemic, no skin outbreaks.
I have been trying Lisa's suggestion for water kefir for about a month and I think it is good for the whole body. I have ordered some essiac tea with high hopes, and passed your tip along to others with LP. I am praying this works for me and others. Thank you so much for posting!"
11/19/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hi replies: "I took the whole bottle, I was cured within a few days of taking it but took the whole bottle of non alcohol formula. I really stress this because the alcohol one tastes God awful. Anyway, read about the benefits on the internet. I bought the liquid kind. 40 drops on an empty stomach in the a. M. And 40 drops on an empty stomach in the pm. I really want someone esle to try to see if it cures them too! I was diagnosised through a doctor and told and prescribed all the same stuff as anyone else. Essaic Tonic Tea purfies the blood, cleans the organs even the lungs and is a parasite killer too! Again, I took this not intentionally trying to cure my LS but I am cured. I haven't had a break out since this year June and no longer use any creams."
11/20/2012: Joni from Selma, Oregon replies: "Hi Daisy, The only type of Essiac I've seen is in a powder form for making a tea. You said your product is in liquid form. Is this a tincture? How wonderful this has cured you!"
11/22/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hawaii replies: "Joni, it is made from different plants. It is an old native american cure and people are claiming it shrinks tumors. Its so gently you can use it on your animals. Chemotheraphy patients are using it along with thier Chemo. It comes in all forms... Powder... Pills... Liquid... I prefer liquid... I have a hard time swallowing pills. I hope it works for others. It is wonderful not being itchy especially at night. I have some scaring on my wrists but all other scars have healed. If this doesn't cure others... than I have received a miracle from God."
11/23/2012: Linda from Reno, Nv replies: "Daisy, where do you buy your essiac toner with no alcohol? Looking on the internet and seeing only ones with alcohol in them."
11/23/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hawaii replies: "I buy mine from a [local] health food store. It is also sold online by different people who sell it. Usually health food stores have it and it is in the detox section of the store. I live Hawaii where everything is shipped in so, I purchase it for about $25 a bottle. I plan on taking this 3 times a year. Next year, I will buy a bottle in March, July and then in November."
11/23/2012: Linda from Reno, Nv replies: "Daisy, thanks for your reply. Is this tonic something you need to take everyday? You mentioned using 3 bottles for a whole year."
11/25/2012: Daisy from Ewa Beach, Hawaii replies: "I would treat it like a detox and only take it a few times a year. A bottle of drops lasts me about 2 weeks. When taking it I feel great... I even get a zing in my step. But I wouldn't take it every day all year long. Just a few times a year to reclean and purify your body and blood. Again, if you do take it and it works or doesn't work let me know. If it doesn't work, than I know it was a miracle I was healed and I will quit telling people about Essaic. If it does work than we can let everyone know it really works. I have yearly appts. Now with my doctor and she doesn't know I am cured. I can't wait for my appt and bring the bottle of Essaic Tonic Tea with me."
11/25/2012: Rsw from Uniontown, Oh replies: "Hi Daisy, I ordered essiac tea, which I will brew at home, and it should be here this coming week. I hope it will work as well as the tea tonic, which I didn't see on the Internet. If this works, you will have found a very elusive cure and many people will finally find some relief from these miserable autoimmunes. I have tried every lead that seems plausible for ten years and I'm so excited to try this! Thank you, Daisy, for posting your experience on EC. I hope we get a bunch of success stories!"
11/25/2012: Joni from Selma, Oregon replies: "Thanks Daisy, I am going to get some Essiac and will certainly let you know the results. I absolutely believe in miracles. God doesn't always work in the same way for all people, but I won't know if this will be my miracle too until I try!"
11/28/2012: Linda from Reno replies: "Daisy, I am going to try it and I will let you know for sure if it works."
01/21/2013: Youngandhavels. from Lansing, Michigan replies: "I saw this post and wanted to respond to it! Mommywantstomakeitbetter post in July! I hope you're still on here! Genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease! How is it that your 5 year old has a genital wart? I would be freaking out if my child had that! How is it that your Dr. did not call social services on you? And you do not get L.S. from genital warts! It is an autoimmune disease! I have LS and got it at age 28 and my Dr. didn't think that I had it. She kept telling me it was an old lady disease. I researched it and found out what I had on my very own and made her do a biopsy and sure enough I was correct! I ended up doing tons of research and changed my diet and used clobetasol propionate along with emu oil and ended up having it go into remission and now it is back at age 45! I have been under alot of stress and I do think that can bring it on. I am now back on my special diet and trying to get it under control and am praying I can get it back in remission again. I also pray my girls never get this! I really pray that your daughter's goes into remission. I have learned that it usually does when young kids get it. However I am really concerned as to why a 5 year old would have a genital wart and can't believe that no one on here has asked you how in the world she got that! And why your Dr. isn't wondering the same thing? I would be freaking out if I was you I am freaking out and I am not you! And I would use Emu oil in addition to clobetasol propionate on your daughter. I am praying for her! No child should have to deal with this horrible disease. The itching is enough to drive you mad!"
01/21/2013: Christina from Winnemucca, Nevada replies: "Maybe the child got genital warts from the Mother through birth."
01/22/2013: Ladywolfdg from Somewhere, Tx replies: "A 5 yr old that has GENITAL WARTS and neither the mom or doctor knows that this is transmitted through sex! Someone is LYING! Someone gave that poor girl a disease! I would take her to another doctor, because the former doctor may had sex with her when the mom was NOT looking! Get real!! She would NOT have gotten it from birth either!"
01/22/2013: Feelbetter from Phoenix, Az replies: "Did anyone in the family have any warts or even recent vaccination for genital warts? I believe that they are very contagious and can transfer to the genital area by touch by the child itself. I am in no way ruling out that the child has been abused, but I just remember reading that somewhere. You might want to research that possible route of transmission."
01/22/2013: Kitty from May's Landing, Nj replies: "Yes, the doc should have had red flags raised, my goodness! One other possibility is that it was molluscum cantagiosum and not a genital wart. MC is very common in children (they get it on playground equipment) and can look like genital warts. Here's an article I found about distinguishing between the two: http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/how-tell-mollusca-genital-warts"
01/24/2013: P from Anon replies: "We need to be very careful in making this sort of acusations. I say this as a male who has had anal warts (but no anal sex). I removed them with ACV then took care of my health to up my immune system. They never returned. I also tested negative for herpes.
Just be careful not to destroy someone's life and career based on "modern" science that at times is, at best, questionable, and downright criminal other times. That being said, you should explore all possibilities."
01/24/2013: Christina from Winnemucca, Nv replies: "@ladywolfdg - it is rare to pass on hpv or genital warts to your children through birth but certainly not impossible."
03/02/2013: Aphrodite from Miami replies: "@youngandraveld: I was a nanny and the newborn I took care of had genital warts. It's something u inherit even if both parent don't have signs or symptomes! It's something ur actually supposed to know and learn in school, obviously not in amerikan schools!!! Now she is 7 and its been gone. Aint non to freak out about so chill out, ur a growen woman!!! To all the others suffering from LS. I am 28 years and suffering for it for good 7 years. I know abuse and rape and the stress within triggered it. I got diagnosed about less then a year ago. I heard emu oil is supposed to give great relieve. Local health stores don't carry it. So I got neem oil, coconut oil and I will get a bottel of liquid lysene capsulas, which I will open and apply direct of the vulva. These are some great natural remedies. I do not support steroid creams, they will make it worse on the end with thining the skin over time."
05/06/2013: Cazza from Sydney, Australia replies: "I use pawpaw ointment. It stops the itch immediately. It won't cure the LS but it makes the pain and itch go away immediately."
09/15/2013: Ls Is Not G Warts from Knox, Tn replies: "This is not about people with genital warts! Lichen Sclerosus (LS) and warts are not related. LS is also not related to hpv. I think these posts may cause unnessary stress to parents."
[YEA] 12/02/2012: Tina from Sydney, Nsw Australia: "I was originally dianosed with Lichen Sclerosis in the late 80s (my early 20's) with extreme redness, swelling and white stripes on my labia minora. Treatment with cortisone via skin specialist was painful and did nothing. A naturopath put me on a Candida diet which we extended to wheat free whilst also using homemade golden seal pessaries nightly. In 9 months I had lost about 10kg (healthy weight for me) and all symptoms. My skin in that area has been thinner since and prone to minor splits, usually during times of stress and my periods. I'm not sure if it's related but I have also developed 4-5 largish subserosal amd pendunculated subserosal fibroids (up to 11cm) in the last 5 years.
Recently I have had a flare up of intense itching in the crease areas of the groin, also due to stress and can easily remove skin if I scratch even firmly. I will get it checked but am looking at the original solution to deal with it. I'm also looking at Red clover tea and will report what happens."

08/16/2011: Kim from Effingham, Usa replies: "Hello,
I have had some success with all the self experiements I have tried.
The ACV completely stopped all symptoms for me, but I couldn't take the ACV as it thinned my bones and bothered my joints. I found a interesting article at Pubmed indicating that acetic acid (ACV) stops MS symptoms, in relation to inhibiting a gene tranference. The following was a conclusion about LS being related to an oxidized state and recommending anti-oxidants - thus my remedy below.
The enzymatic antioxidant defence in LS was found to be significantly disturbed. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to demonstrate oxidative damage to lipids, DNA and proteins in LS, revealing a novel pathophysiological mechanism which may contribute to sclerosis, autoimmunity and carcinogenesis. Therapeutic strategies using antioxidants might be a useful new approach in the treatment of LS and could also help to prevent secondary malignancies.
For the Itch, I buy PURE Aloe Vera, mix with Lysine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cystene, Primerose oil (a few drops), Grapeseed extract and it usually keeps that BAD fire at bay without any flare ups and without the itch. I have had it for 11 years and only have (1) 1/4 inch scar. I do have some atrophy, but that came from attempting to use OTC steriod creme (absolute no-no). The scar over my pubic bone completely resolve using the ACV and above remedy. I thought I was totally resolved when I was taking the Vinegar daily, I had nothing, no symptoms and skin was regaining pink color. I stopped taking vinegar because it was demineralizing my bones - started noticing joint and back issues.
I regained minimal symptoms when stopped so continue to use above mixture with good results to stop the progression. I am going to start adding Hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide to the mixture. I am going to start taking niacinamide (small dose as it can be toxic if to much) I am hoping for a straight out healing!!! I am certain it is related to thyroid issues - that started when they put me on Premarin after hysterectomy - causing my thryroid to fail completely. I will post with results.
TED - HELP!!!!
I want to know if Ted would answer a question. I have been taking Armour Thyroid for 11 years, did an Ultra sound found out the thyroid tissue has regenerated. Is there anyway... somehow I can get off of the medication? Have your ever heard of this?
08/17/2011: Kim from Effingham, Usa replies: "Hello again, I wasn't to clear on the MS and LS connection... According to research taking Vinegar stopped MS symptoms (auto-immune symptoms), when I took Vinegar for LS my symptoms stopped. LS is an auto-immune condition. Acetic acid (vinegar stops the reaction). Has anyone else tried oral vinegar for LS? It worked for me, but again I can't do it because it demineralizes my bones."
10/28/2011: Angela from Tehachapi, Ca replies: "I have LS my condition has been very severe. I read on this site that someone used Baking Soda in there bath. So since all the other remedies seem to be costly and hardly effective I tried it. Let me tell you IT WORKS. I used 1/2 a box of Baking Soda in the tub and soaked for 30 minutes. I know that sounds like alot of Baking Soda but I was afraid less would not be as effective. After my first soak I did not itch for 3 hours. After 2 weeks I visibly look close to normal. I use 1/2 a box every other day. The itch is still there I am working on my own mix of oils and shea butter to stop the itch and restore myself to 100%. [NAY] 09/18/2013: Geri from Kentucky replies: "This is in regard to Lichen Sclerosis:
I see where some say that a candida diet or taking Essia Tea will be of help, but I don't believe it for one minute. I have had no sugar for 6 months with very little bread and have been on a strict anti candida diet for 3 months (no nothing) along with drinking that tea and I just got LS."
Cold Water, Evening Primrose Oil
[YEA] 05/18/2013: Ann from Kennesaw, Ga: "Have had LS for last six years. Severe pain and itching. Some days could hardly walk. I starting using cold water in a sitz bath every day what a relief. Every time I urinated poured cold water from tap overVJ. Also take evening primrose oil two or three a day. At night open a gel cap of the oil put on VJ. I am 90% better. I have tried everything. Cold Water is working for me."
Diaper Rash Cream, Vagisil
04/28/2011: Sunflower from Tempe, Az: "This will sound funny, but I have had the best luck mixing ButtPaste (diaper rash cream) and Vagisil. Works like dream. Doesn't cure it, I really don't think anything does, but it does make it bareable."
[YEA] 03/21/2013: Suzzie from Portland, Oregon: "Eating Wheat was what was causing my Lichen Sclerosus symptoms. The symptoms I had was shrinking labia minor, horrible drive me crazy itching of my clitoris and the area to the entrance to my vagina was not supple at all and was painfully tight. When I quit eating wheat, the itching completely stopped after about a week. (It may take longer for someone else to experience total relief, as the effects of wheat can stay in the body for 6 months) After a month off Wheat, the tissue in my labia minor has started to plump up again and the entrance to my vagina is now supple and stretches like it should. No more pain!!! Halleluiah!
I encourage everyone to read the book "Wheat Belly" by William Davis MD. Modern Wheat has an inflammatory effect on the body, whether you feel the symptoms or not. There is a myriad of diseases that disappear when wheat is eliminated from the diet. Modern Wheat has more in it than just the gluten that causes allergies and doctors do not test for these. Even whole wheat bread (thought to be healthier than white bread) will raise your blood sugar higher than eating a candy bar! There is an episode of Dr. Oz where they showed this is true. This is true even if the bread is made from organic wheat.
To add to the inflammatory effect on the body of Wheat, here in the United States, 90% of the wheat (including corn, soy and canola) produced is "RoundUp Ready". (Only a few years ago that number was 60%) It has roundup poison molecule inserted into the grain so the fields can be sprayed to kill only the weeds. Then the whole field is sprayed with RoundUp, which is absorbed into the crop adding more poison which is later ingested by animals and people. In the US they do not have to label any food that is GM. Every time it goes to vote the industry uses scare tactics about the cost of food going up as a result of new labeling laws. This is simply not true. Many grocery prices have doubled in the past 5 years regardless. You can't put a price on our health, because the alternative is costly for sure! * * * I believe we are already seeing the health consequences from these genetically modified foods, but we can't yet prove it is due to them. I think we are going to see more illnesses that used to be rare, and see new unexplained illnesses due to GM RoundUp ready foods."Replies
09/03/2013: Effingham from Kimpeterson99@hotmail.com replies: "Well, it is 2013... Just wanted to let everyone know, I have managed this disease very well with the "Curezone". After careful research and self experiments... I must agree with Suzzie from Oregon. I have read Wheat Belly, but realized this before the release of the book. Found out that eating GMO chips (corn) would send my LS through the roof. I also noticed other products - milk, breads.. They all have in common the GMO.. Round up toxified stuff. I made an honest effort to stop all these and my symptoms clear up. I rarely use the curezone, unless I eat these poisonous foods. Check out all the research on "hyperimmune" and "autoimmune" also "genetic transfer" of the altered DNA in GMO's.. Which could cause permanent changes in our DNA in turn which constantly triggers above responses. Stop the insanity of this food. Why is it that other countries outlaw it but not the USA. This has to be the culprit like the "immune" issues the Bee's are presenting with... Food for thought. Peace."
[YEA] 07/27/2012: Melody from Beebe, Ar, Usa: "I believe the Lichen Sclerosus is a yeast/fungal infection and can also be a Thyroid problem. My family uses Essential Oil of Thieves, Ocotea, Oregano... To name a few that are antifungal oils and do no harm to the body. Myrrh oil is also GREAT for the Thyroid. Please do not try using oils that are not pure... Know the company you purchase from and make sure they are pure. We know YL oils are we have had many health issues resolved using them. Fungus disappears when the oils are used. I can send you information if you send me your email... I know how painful this can be."Replies

Essiac Tea, Homeopathy
[YEA] 11/26/2013: Mk from Usa: "I started using Essiac Tonic a few days ago. My symptoms have gotten so much better already. I'm also taking/eating probiotics and taking slippery elm & marshmallow root to heal my gut (I think I have a leaky gut and it causes my LS). I'm also on low-oxalate gluten-free diet. I really do think that Essiac Tonic will cure my LS, combined with proper diet."
[YEA] 03/02/2013: Kate from Auckland, New Zealand: "Last year I had my first flare up of Lichen Sclerosis, I didn't know that's what it was till I got it back this year in early February. I'm not interested in using steroid creams so I researched alternative treatments and came across Essiac Tea. I followed the instructions, it is now early March and it is almost gone. I also used homeopathic remedies to ease the itch, inflammation and splitting. Homeopathic Graphites, Urtica-urens, Nit-ac and Apis, each in a 30c potency. Am also taking homeopathic Kreosotum and Petroleum and they are taking away the last of the splits and itching. Hope this helps anyone suffering this awful affliction, feel free to message me. Lichen Sclerosus Remedies
05/26/2013: Rosedancer from Salt Lake City, Utah, Usa: "I was told I have Sojurns disease also and didn't quite know what to do, now I have been told I have LS. I was so surprised, I have never even heard of this. I just had a physical and was told I should go to the GYN doctor. She wanted to put me on steroids and hormones. I have been breaking out with extreme itching, eczema on my chest from my neck almost to my breasts. It seems to go away when I do only a VERY clean diet and spray colloidal silver on it. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Chronic Fatigue and have dealt with that with diet and herbs. Now the LS, I am really thinking what the h...!!! I am 66 and have been divorced for 8 years and have not had sex and have met someone and thought I might want to be intimate with and wanted to be sure I am okay. Then I find out I have this. I have not had itching but it is very inflammed and sore. I am reading that people have used strong herbs and healed this. I would love to hear from people that have had success in healing this. I find it interesting that I was molested as a child and did not really feel connected to that part of me and I am now very open to healing both physically and emotionally."
Low Oxalates Diet
[YEA] 02/18/2012: Healthygirl110 from Sacramento, Ca: "I've been able to reverse Lichen Sclerosis by going on a Low Oxalates diet. Steroid creams do not work. After being on a low oxalates diet within a month my LS has reversed by 50% and still healing everyday! I wrote up a page about the resources and my experiences with battling Lichen Sclerosis -- you can go to lichensclerosis (dot) wordpress (dot) com I hope this others -- I never thought in a million years I could reverse LS but it's possible. You can also check out Vulvar Pain Foundation online with similar resources. Good Luck! "Replies

[YEA] 04/28/2012: Sandra from Ottawa, Ontario replies: "I have had LS for a year now. I went on the Low Oxalate diet in September and noticed that the itching immediately began to subside (a HUGE relief considereing I was returning to work and hadn't been able to wear pants for the past 4 months). I had also been experiencing extreem fatigue and digestive issues, which went away within a matter of days. After about a month I was at a confrence and cheated by eating a sandwich and cookie. I was exhausted.
I switched up the low oxalate diet for a gluten free diet and found that the fatigue and digestive symptoms went away, the LS became gradually less itchy, and the white patches started to disappear. I have not had to use steroid cream for months and I have been able to resume a normal sex life. After a significant improvement I realized that while the dietary change was helping it was not the only answer. I had also noticed that the itching would be the worst when I was lying down or sitting for long periods of time so I started jogging. I started off with 2km and have worked up to 6km 3 times a week. I think that the extra blood flow may be what is helping, because I did do regular excercise before, but it was yoga which was much lower impact and much less demanding to the cardio-vascular system. I would like to mention that I have also not had athsma for months since changing my diet. Trying the low oxalate diet an was the best thing did for my LS."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/23/2011: Dee from Utica, Mi: "I have had symptoms of LS for 2 years now and have finally found a way to keep it under control. The symptoms started after menopause with extreme vaginal dryness. Then the vulvar skin breaking, bruising and vaginal atrophy began. I work for a GYN doctor so I knew what was happening to me. I did try Perrins cream which helped a little in the beginning. I vas very reluctant to use any prescription medication, but after suffering for so long I finally tried a very small dose of Estrace cream vaginally once or twice a week which has helped alot. (I did not want to use Steroids). I also apply pure vitamin E oil (found at Target for $5.00) to the vaginal/rectal area everyday after bathing/soaking. I use only natural soap very gently in that area, no bleach on underwear, avoid any perfumes or strong dryer sheets that irritate, no underwear when at home and only lightly blot when using toilet paper. These things have helped me tremendously. Avoiding sugar and taking high potency probiotics do also help. I hope and pray that a natural cure can be found and that the cause of this awful condition will soon be discovered. I have been doing my own research and taking note of the similarities in women who have this condition. Hope this helps someone."Replies
08/17/2011: Kim from Effingham, Usa replies: "Hello, I too work in the medical field, have you had any success with new insights from MD? Do you visit Pubmed frequently? They have found the tissues to be abnormally deficiet of antioxidants. When I use them (above) it really does decrease the symptoms. Lycine works too.
Mine stopped reacting, skin was pinking up with oral intake of vinegar - the very same reaction with MS and vinegar. MS is an autoimmune disease. Vinegar inhibits a reaction of the autoimmune.
Western medicine has found that some of the medication used for anti rejection for organ donors are working but not resolving it.
Does the Estrace stop the progress of the disease?
For research purposes do you have Estrogen dominance? Thyroid link?
I was hoping Ted would comment, maybe he has something to offer."
08/30/2011: Ana from Toogoolawah, Queensland Australia replies: "I have what my doctor described as 'Extreme LS' this is where I have LOST most of my vulva and all that remains is the opening ( very small) and part of my clit which is not very painful to. The lenght of my vagina has shrunk to just 2 inches from top to end and if I lose the remainder of my clit I will have to have some sort of mobile tubes to incert when I need to pee.
I have tried everything, cremes lotions ACV, oils, you name it I have tried it including Perrins offerings, even used steroid cremes. Nothing worked. Todate there is NO cure and may not be one in my life time (I am 67) but there is some trials been done in Sweden or Denmark where they are trying out natural Progesterone creme. , available only by script in Australia ( big Pharm dictates here, so Aussie and NZ have to buy from USA). You also have to be careful using Progesterone if you are postmem, which I found to my cost, on 2 seperate days after two small dabs I was in agony with miscarriage/labor pains and the need to bare down, this lasted over 1/2 an hour till I had a show of blood. It turns out that I have a medium fibroid in on the back wall of my womb and the Progesserone acted a prelude to esterone which fed the fibroid and caused it to grow and as a postmenopausal woman that made my body think I was pregnant and it had to go. Thats what my last gyno said, but there again she said I had vaginitis when I first visited her for the itch and dryness 2 years ago. My GP has now got me on DermAid 0.5% which is not so harsh and it helps with the itch, I also sit in a baby bath of warm water with 1/4 cup ACV 1/4 cup Bicarb soda, and 1 cup Magneesium Chloride which I buy from food ingredient suppliers and I find this is works as well as anything I have tried so far and all 3 are good for the body anyway. I will try Argan oil in the blend next for the dryness."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 10/16/2011: Kim from Effingham, Illinois replies: "Wanted to let everyone know... I started using Niacinamide and Lycine (mixed it in a small bottle of pure water) spraying it on the LS and then applying Argan oil, my symptoms have decreased by 60%. I also quit drinking coffee and the skin on the backs of my arms and legs cleared up. Not sure if this was an allergy and LS is connected but am not ruling it out.
This is such an awful disease. Hang in there."
11/29/2011: Cindy from Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, Usa replies: "Hi,
My symptoms occured exactly like Dee's. I don't have itching or any white spots. But I do have some atrophy, white thinning skin in the folds, some past bleeding. I'm really upset that my atrophy will never grow back. This will prevent normal, painfree sex.
I was given potent steroids to apply topically everyday for one month, and then down to 2-3 times per week. After six weeks, my skin looks whiter than ever and I think it's gotten worse.
I took myself off the steroids, but needed something else to replace it. I wanted to do an all natural solution, so I searched this website as well as many others. After much research looking for women with my similar symtoms, I decided to try using Red Clover infusion/tea drinks. Everyone has recommended one quart per day. It has many anti-inflamatory properties as well as healing properties. Research has also showed that LS may be helped by megadoses of antioxidants. So, I went to the heath food store and bought the strongest antioxidant powder mix I could find (they work better, absored more than tablets). That's what I take internally.
As for what to use externally in the vulva area, I decided to use Neem cream followed by Organic Coconut oil (comes in a large jar, very soft and melts in your hand). Both have amazing healing properites, and the coconut oil replaces the essential fatty acids that the skin in this area desperately needs. I use coconut oil in place of everything I would have used butter or oil for, for example, use it for cooking eggs, baking, etc. It also can be used on the skin. I put it all over my body after the shower as a moisturizer. It is awesome! My nutritionist raves about it and uses it for everything also. It's a superfood!
I have used these drinks and creams for two days now, and my skin is already pinker! I still have some white skin in the fold area, but I am hopeful! Before this, I had an almost totally white vulva! I have also thrown away all my sweeteners with Aspartame, and will use only Stevia. I suggest everyone cut out the sugar, even honey. Sugar is sugar, and it creates an imflammatory reaction in the body.
It's worth a try, anything is better than steroids! Let me know how it works for you....."
12/17/2011: Lynn from Kansas City, Kansas replies: "I, too have heard of the coconut oil and already use it for my omelets and other cooking. I have had LS for 12 years (43 years old now). The labia is fused for the most part on both sides, with pale, thin tissue. The majora has shrunk a little, but is still somewhat pink. In the beginning, I was put on clobetasol, etc. This was not good. My symptoms really didn't get better, and it thinned the tissue more. I had a dermatologist who put me on Metformin crushed in Vaseline that seemed to help a little. She wanted me to take it orally, but my GI sx at the time prevented that. I have started taking Mercola's Krill oil which has all sorts of backing as an anti-flammatory. Hopefully, the combination of making my body not so inflamed inside, and the coconut oil outside will do the trick. I also have Raynaud's. I agree with eliminating nutra sweet, etc. I eat a low-carb diet. I think we now have more auto-immune than ever, and we need to look at the state our bodies are in. I wish everyone the best. Hopefully, there will be a cure someday! Thankfully, my husband is very understanding :)"
02/14/2012: Kim from Effingham, Usa replies: "Lynn, read your note with interest. This is an awful disease.. I wonder if like the bee's our immune systems have been crippled by the pesticides... Food for thought. What I found strange.. I didn't have these problems until I moved to a farming area. I formally lived in the Mtns and drank spring water... I did find that Scar reduction cream (zinc oxide) with the tea extract totally knocks all the itch/thining and any progression of fusion of the tissue. Should have figured this before as this is for overreactive skin tissue. It does not cure it but I don't have to apply every day, just 1 x every 2-3 days. It is strange all of us are getting this...."
06/09/2013: Julia from Indianapolis, In replies: "I have had LS for 6 years, following severe physical trauma and mental anguish. I am athyroid, a thyroid cancer survivor. Part of my labia is gone, eaten away. The clitoris is covered by fused labia minora. I have been using Clobestiral and hormone cream every other day. I still have outbreaks of red, thin and itchy skin with bleeding. White patches come and go. Now, I am having deep pelvic pain where my ovaries used to be. Had a total hysterectomy for severe endometriosus 30 yrs. ago. I have no orgasmic response, but do get aroused to some extent. I do not eat wheat, drink coffee and avoid sugar. I try to use all natural products. I can't tolerate underwear. I am miserable and the Dr. says "see you in a year.""
