REMEDIES NEEDED

12/14/2011: Sherri from Montgomery, Al., Usa writes: "I have had fungus on my thumbnails for years now. I refuse to take the recomended medications because of the damage it does to the liver. I have heard that using a chest rub for colds, or vinegar on them would help; is this true? The fungus is so bad that my nails are very thick, and painful, and have deep dips in them; my left thumb even has a hole in it! Please help. Thanks in advance. - Sherri"

12/14/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Sherri, I had a bad fungus in one big toe and it was starting in my other big toe. All I did was drink ACV with bicarb soda each day (twice a day). In 3 months the nail with the fungus gradually grew out and I just kept cutting the bad nail off. I put nothing on the nail. It had been there for over 5 years and I had taken something in the past which did not work."
12/15/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "Hi Sherry, in one of microbiology classes we learned that vicks vapor rub will kill the fungus. My professor told us it is not easy to get rid of but it is possible. He said the prescriptions can damage your liver and will take months to cure it. My sister tried it on her toenail and within 2 months of applying the vicks at night (putting a sock on) she was cured completely."
12/15/2011: Kathy from Prattville, Alabama replies: "Sherry, I have had nail fungus on my hands for 20 years. The docs said the yellowish brown hard nails were from smoking. Recently since finding this site, I began taking 250mg of olive leaf capsules 2times a day. Also I have been using a mix of coconut oil and 20% tea tree oil after showering 3times a week and daily on hands and feet. My original intent was not for the nails- but imagine my shock when my nails became white again. I don't know which worked best but I'm not complaining. Both can be bought at walmart quite cheap and hope it will work for you-took about 3weeks. Tea tree oil is slightly drying and it must be used with another oil since it is so strong but coconut oil by itself will make your skin very soft."

09/23/2011: Samatha from Miami, Fl writes: "Hi, I have a special needs 10 year old with this horrible condition. I've jumped around to so many different doctors and finally I got a diagnoses. My doctor has prescribed antibiotics. And will not recommend anything else. I would love to find a wonderful doctor here in the Florida area. Can anyone refer me to one? He's in so much pay and I am not sure any more what to expect. He has three bumps on his testacle area that really worries me.

I have a Jacuzzi in my house and would like for him to soak in w/ chlorine. How much and which one should I use?"

09/24/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Chlorine is very bad for you. It depletes the body of vitamin E among other things. You would be better finding something natural."

07/27/2011: Kristy from London, Uk writes: "A few months ago I scratched my inside vaginal opening with period pad which I was wearing. Next 2 days I saw orangish red blood spots but I ignored it that it will be healed by itself. But as the time passed I found out that particular area getting bumpy, itchy and inflammed. I went to the GP. Fungal infection was diagnosed & hence I was given Diflucan. Ater the completion I was again tested and slight bacterial infection was diagnosed but the doc said it's alright. A month later I had to take metronidazole and I started getting the same fungal symptoms hence I went to a doctor and bacterial infection was diagnosed. I inserted canesten (broad-spectrum antimycotic with fungal action and trichomonacide) 1 vaginal suppository 2 times for 3 days. When my periods date approached (same day when last period started in the previous month) the pad was stained then no periods again for full day. Next day it happened again. Today is 3rd day. I am having period pain. But the periods are still stuck.
Please help with your good suggestion what is it and what should I do in the longer run as well?
Thanks."

07/31/2011: Mark from Portland, Or replies: "Hi,

I've had good luck so far with iodine, I would try an iodine/water mix doushe. After the infection is under control I would put yogurt in your vagina to replant with healthy bacteria. You'll have to do some experimentation."

06/12/2011: Monica from Lexington, Ky writes: "Help! I need a practical cure for fungus that has affected my big toe (right), the skin and nail. I prefer to use natural ingredients. My Podiatrist has prescribed liquid drops that are compounded at the pharmacy at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lex, KY. The mail ingredient seems to be thymol. I am almost certain I contracted this from a Pedicure/Nail Salon. It is very unsightly and has contributed to my social anxiety. I feel like a leper! Help, please! Thank you!

I am 62 years young, a retired teacher (Family and Consumer Science) and want to cure this as quickly and naturally as possible. Will apple cider soaks interfere with the thymol solution? I have been given instructions on soaks with Epson salts and another with vinegar and salt. The skin surrounding my nail is very white and seems dead. I am told by the doc that it is NOT dead. I do not understand. NO more pedicures for me for sure. Is there a "healthy" nail polish? I rarely use nail polish, but want heathy looking feet/toes. My toe is causing me to seclude myself and avoid certain activities where my toe is visible. Thank you!"

Just put about a half cup in a warm foot bath and soak once or twice a day for about 20 minutes each time. I've cured my husband's toenail fungus with his remedy and he had had them for years! Another thing that feet love is a rub down with organic coconut oil after that soaking."

02/05/2011: Angie from Burbank, Ca writes: "Hi, Ted, My husband and I've been drinking green smoothies for the last two months. Though it is very difficult to change our American Standard Diet overnight, just having a green smoothie once a day in the morning changed our diet by 20 % right away. We noticed a lot of improvement in our health -- headaches went away, regulated stool, feeling more relaxed, no need to take tons of sleep aid every night, better sleep, lots of energy, etc. Along with this, kind of at the same time my husband started to have scalp sores. Maybe it is just a coincidence. Anyway, the sores hurt and itch. He tried organic psoriasis shampoo, but it maked it worse. I dry them with alcohol. It seems to take the itch away. At the same time, I've been reading a lot about alkaline water and I started to give him ph balance enzymes. The sores seem to go away for a couple of days, but then they come back.

Also, he has had a mild allergy lately, I gave him magnesium capsules and added oxygen drops in his smoothie for stress and mental clarity. Too many vitamins? Too many toxins? Allergy reaction? Fungus? Lack of lipase enzyme? I forgot to say he got his gall bladder removed two years ago, so his body cannot handle fat digestion, he's had a lot of diarrhea. But with intake of enzymes it has been under contral. Anyway, the sores seem to improve by the end of the day after I apply alcohol and he does not scratch them, but then they start itching again and it drives him crazy. Today I noticed that after he scratched them, the inside of the big sores looks yellow-greenish. Is it puss? Though the sores look flat. I applied some alcohol on the sores again. It helped. They became more pinkish and the inside looks pale.

My question is: Is there any universal natural remedy with the anti fungus effect for any scalp sores? Thank you very much for your answer. :)"

[YEA]  03/15/2007: Rebecca from Victoria, BC, Canada writes: "I had a severe fungal infection under my big toenail. My doctor prescribed antibiotics that I would need to take for a year (lamisil?); this drug had a risk of serious side effects and also required completely giving up drinking alcohol for a year! Before taking the antibiotic, I decided to try just applying rubbing alcohol (50% alcohol readily available and cheap at any pharmacy) twice a day.

I put the alcohol in an eye-dropper and was careful to get as much under the nail as possible; I also cleaned out dead skin if necessary. I did this twice a day, and also at any time when my feet got wet. I saw progress very soon, and the fungus was completely clear in 6 months. I did not lose the nail as had been predicted. I did not change my diet, stop drinking, or take any special supplements - just the external rubbing alcohol directly on/under the infected toenail.

Worth a try for a month; if you are diligent you will see progress and this has to be the cheapest, easiest way to handle the problem."

You can go to any Whole Foods Store and buy Himalayan Salt, like I did. It works! Bleach and Vicks are not natural remedies. Please do not do these remedies you will harm your liver and kidneys not to mention bleach is also a skin irritant. Read the warning labels and you will see that they are completely toxic. Rule of thumb, if you can't eat it don't put it on your skin. Also, Monostat is not a natural remedy either. It is a fungicide. After a while it will not work. Your fungus will grow immune and will need stronger stuff. You can create a super fungus that can eat your skin away. Don't do it."

SOAP

YEA

[YEA]  08/12/2005: ENash from Aurora, Colorado writes: "This may seem too simple, but it is working for me. Simply wash your toes and nails with hand soap. Wash every 2-14 days. Less if becoming dry and cracking. More if fungus is developing on the surface of the toes. Rubbing with a dark towel will show fungus as a light color.

I used Fungicream on my toe which had about a 1/4 inch thickness of fungus under the nail. It worked well, but after 2 months, I developed a bright bloody red rash. I stopped the treatment and washed my toes to get rid of the Fungicream. The fungus bloomed and the nail became worse than ever. Three weeks later the rash began to disappear. I continued to wash my toes. I marked the boundary between the pink nail and the fungus damaged nail with a black permanent marker. The line ran across the nail about 1/8 of an inch from the base of the nail. 5 months have passed and the line has moved to about 60% of the distance from the base. There is only pink nail below the line. No fungus has appeared and the original fungus has crumbled.

I expect that it will take 5 more months to push the nail to the end and I think that it will remove the fungus. I believe that the fungus under the nail needs support from the fungus on the skin and that the oil and cleaning with soap removes the support system. Alternatively, it could be to the Fungicream or other conditions. In any case this is simple, has no cost, and is relatively easy to do. If you don't feel like it is working after 2 months, you could try the Fungicream with the cleaning. Be sure to measure where you put the line. It grows slowly and it is difficult to tell that anything is going on until many months have passed."

[YEA]  12/31/2011: Fifi from Gold Coast, Australia writes: "Hi all, I had a fungal nail infection in both my big toenails. It was there for awhile and I was worried about it spreading further. I asked my doc about using something from the pharmacy but he said it was all a waste of money. So I decided to try tea tree oil.

Morning and night, after showering, I scrubbed the oil into and around ALL of my toes. I would tip the oil on from a dropper bottle and made sure I also got it up under the nail. I scrubbed with a toothbrush. I did this for about 3 months and the fungas has completely gone. My nails were yellow/patchy and flaky. Now they are nomal! No more hiding them away!"

[YEA]  11/12/2011: Xina from Sydney, Australia writes: "My remedy for nail fungus is 100% pure tea tree oil. That's it, that's all that is needed.

Prior to using tea tree oil, I did some research online to find out the best commercial products to use and found many mention of Loceryl and the like, but I found it was too costly for my taste. So I researched online again for "natural" remedies and came across tea tree oil. It just so happens that I had some on hand, so I decided to use it one night. The 1st week, just by running my finger over the top of my big toe, I felt a big difference as my big toe previously contained ridges and was not smooth. I clipped my nails very short, and applied more tea tree oil very other day, and in the 2nd week, the nail fungus was 80% gone. Now, I am in my 3rd week, and the nail fungus is completely gone.

So, please don't shell out your $50 for no commercial product, just get 100% tea tree oil and you will be set. It is good for a host of remedies including dandruff, lice, fungus, etc. Due to its anti-bacterial elements.

Just wanted to share my experience."

It has taken many months - more than 4 or 5 and I didn't do it every single day - many times I forgot. But I can finally say that the teatree oil is working. Some of the affected nail flaked off and the rest of it is growing out with healthy nail bed in its place. You just have to be patient - it will take a long time - for me - because I forgot so much to apply it, it was close to a year."

I used a cotton swab and worked the oil under the nail and coated the entire outer nail. Within two weeks the decay had stopped and I could see the nail bed attached to the new growth. [YEA]  07/17/2006: Crystal from VA writes: "I have hard rough skin around fingernails causing them to become brittle; discomforting in daily tasks like typing and basic tasks involving fingers and hands. My nail fungus problem began on my right big toe. I thought it was an in-grown nail. A whole summer I sat out in the sunlight picking at it with a file and tweezers and finally saw a podiatrist. She told me it was fungus and that the only cure was Lamisil. I of course could not fathom the health risks and financial costs the drug involves. I have a strong faith and am Spiritual, therefore I knew there must be some natural remedy for this problem. I asked around and someone said tea tree oil. For the next few weeks I noticed the problem worsening in my other toes, and more recently has started to grow in my fingers.

In my retail job I waited on a customer who happens to own our local health food store. I asked her, and she also said tea tree oil. My next day off, I went straight to her store and purchased a bottle of Thursday Plantation brand of nail fungus therapy with tea tree oil. I started the treatment on my fingers only and noticed immediately that the discomfort had disappeared. The next day the dead skin was peeling off to reveal my fresh healthy skin underneath. I am on day 4 now and my fingers and nails are starting to look and feel like MINE again! When they are back to normal I'll start the real test on my big toe, on which the nail is almost gone! When speaking to the owner of the store at which I made my purchase, she said the remedy works as long as the treatment is administered diligently! So, if you purchase this product, please stick to your regime! To your healthy and happy fingertips, toes and nails! (: ~Crystal"

[YEA]  03/08/2011: Elizabeth from Adrian, Michigan Usa writes: "I have had a fungal infection in my right thumbnail that has been recurrant for over two years. Absolutely nothing topical nor oral worked to clear it up, and it was at the point of my nail being almost completely detached. Trimming all the way down as some suggest did nothing to help.

I have been applying neat Tea Tree Oil 4 times a day to the exposed nail bed and surrounding area (I have had no adverse effects from using it neat). After it is absorbed, I have applied Vapor Cough Suppressant (I used the name brand) in a thick layer and left uncovered. The smell is not pleasant, but after a week I have, for the first time in two years, NEW HEALTHY GROWTH!!! There are two tiny black spots under the nail, but the new growth is definitely attached to the nail bed, and there is a noticeable ridge where it is growing in normally at the base as opposed to slightly thickened. The cuticle which was destroyed is beginning to regenerate."

QUESTION

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/10/2011: Susane from Santa Monica, Ca writes: "Ted Remedy plus Thymol works

First of all.. Be patient. Toe nails take a long long time to grow. My docotor, from Kaiser, prescribed Thymol. It's a liquid that you apply twice a day. I used it for 6 weeks and couldn't see any change. I called the doctor and asked for Lamisil. The doctor told me that he has never known Thymol not to work. So... I added Ted's Remedy. For 2 weeks, twice a day, I did the 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide followed by a 50/50 solution of bleach/water for 30 seconds to a minute and then rinsed. I then followed this by using the Thymol drops.

After 2 weeks I started seeing a difference. At that point I stopped everything but the Thymol. I am now currently 7 months into the entire event of trying to save my toenails and am happy to say that of the 7 infected toenails 4 of them are completely cured and the other 3 are slowly getting there. One of my big toenails was about 80% infected and apparently it takes about a year to fully regrow a big toenail and I appear to be on track for that mark. You must be diligent and patient. My prescription of Thymol costs about $15 a bottle and I have used 3 bottles over 7 months and will probably need another 2 bottles. Also, my doctor told me that he personally uses Thymol once a week just as maintenance."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  09/13/2010: Lindsay from Chicago, Il, Usa writes: "I started out doing Ted's remedy for nail fungus six weeks ago. My big toenails were just starting to show signs of fungus with those scratchy white marks. I stopped the bleach step after awhile because the skin around my nails was starting to turn red and break down. About ten days ago I backed off the vinegar/peroxide step to every other day because the problem persisted, but kept the vaseline/tea tree oil on it every day. I started noticing that the fungus only extended halfway down my nail now instead of 2/3 of the way down the nail like it had when I started, but my nails were now very yellow, particularly around the perimeter of the nails. I reduced the vaseline/tea tree oil to once per day because my skin was still so dry and red around my nails and the tea tree oil was drying it out further, and I noticed today that the fungus is now progressing further down my nails than before. What am I doing wrong, and what can I do differently? What has caused my nails to turn yellow? I have had this fungus before, and it progressed much further before, but it never caused my nails to turn quite this shade of yellow, even when it pulled the nail away from the nail bed. Last time I treated it with Lamisil prescribed by my doctor, but since that was only two years ago and I didn't want to take Lamisil every two years, I was hoping for a remedy that doesn't require a prescription or that I take a liver function test first. I am so frustrated. Is there a milder treatment since my nails aren't that far gone yet and my skin is so sensitive?"

Replies
[NAY]  09/27/2010: Lindsay from Chicago, Il, Usa replies: "It appears the reason my nails are all yellow now is that this remedy was breaking down my cuticles and the skin around my nails has allowed the fungus to spread to all of my nails. This should NOT be labeled as "better with side effects" since the side effect is that the fungus is now much worse. Based on my previous nail fungus, if I had left it alone, it would have taken months to progress to this point."
03/10/2011: Lindsay from Chicago, Il, Usa replies: "Update: I blame the diluted Clorox for the breakdown around my nails. I do not recommend doing that step unless your nails are so far gone that nothing else works. Here is the version of this remedy I have been using for the last few months (after several trials and errors) that has healthy pink nail finally growing in on every toe: each morning and evening wipe down the nails with the 50/50 vinegar and peroxide solution, then rinse, dry thoroughly, and cover the nails with Vicks vaporub (the Vicks was recommended by my doctor) and sprinkle a foot powder with Micronazole Nitrate over all the toes (I'm not sure how integral the powder part is, but it prevents athlete's foot from being a problem on and around the skin, and it keeps my toes from feeling like they are covered in Vicks vaporub). Since I've been doing this through the winter, my feet have socks and shoes on them almost all the time, but this has not been a problem. A couple of times a week I will soak my (clean) feet in the 50/50 solution for about 15 minutes instead of just wiping them down.

Positive side effect: If you have a problem with rough skin and callouses, the peroxide makes them soft and easy to slough off. Most of my small nails are already grown out, and the large ones are about half-way grown out doing this routine. It is time consuming but I consider it worth it. Doing the routine just once each day didn't have the same effect."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/12/2010: Kc from Lafayette, Co writes: "I have very severe nail fungus on one big toe, always have although its been getting progressively worse over the years. Just a few weeks ago I noticed a different type fungus starting in one of my little toes! "NO WAY!" i thought, so i jumped on here and read all the remedies and comments. I'm a huge believer in ACV but i haven't been taking it recently. I thought Teds Remedy combined with ACV sounded like it would work the fastest. It honestly never occurred to me it would work as fast as Ted says it would, i thought "mines really bad, a few months and it will look better maybe" I cut back all the raised infected nail to get the best penetration, did both the vinegar and hp and the bleach (at 1/1 water directly on the nail with a dropper)and then covered them in vicks for the night. OMG!! I woke up to find the fungus obviously dying (different consistency and color)and the yellowing stripes I couldn't clip back very faded. I did the whole routine again this morning and Ill post back in a week or so to let everyone know how its going. Just as an aside, it took the $175 "prescription" paint on stuff 2 months to have this affect on my nail. I'm cautiously hopeful:)"
