Cure Nail Fungus

MOUTHWASH

3 YEA

[YEA]  11/16/2006: Charlette from Plano, TX writes: "Soak feet once a week in an antibacterial wash. Found cure on Diva's Home Remedies. I purchased a large cheap bottle of mouthwash mixed half with water in foot tub. After a couple of weeks the fungus will disappear. Do not purchase dark colored mouthwash as this puts a tinted color on skin. I'm sure if you had a fingernail fungus you can put mouthwash in a cup and soak finger once a week and be cured."

NATURAL MINERAL SPRINGS

1 YEA

[YEA]  01/24/2007: Jim from San Matero, CA writes: "Best cure I found for toenail fungus was camping on a river with a very hot natural mineral Springs that I walked in each day cured fungus I had been trying to cure for a year with over the counter. My Dr. says do not use the prescription on tv for any reason as only works on 60%, and causes liver damage in about 1/4 of healthy individuals using the products...said it was very risky even with blood tests."

NEEM OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/06/2007: Otti from Tampa, Florida writes: "I discovered an awesome natural remedy for any yeast infections and fungus - neem tree see oil. It even works on plants, not just my boyfriend's toe nail fungus. However, the seed oil smells worse than garlic but it is so very strong and powerful. Mixing it with an essential oil can help with that smell. Other neem tree extracts can cure viral infections as well and can be taken orally. I have used the seed oil on my cold sore (mixed with carmex because of the smell) and it stopped the herpes outbreak immediately."

NIACINAMIDE

06/19/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "It has been known in academic circles for sometime that vitamin B3 in the form of niacinamide (non-flushing) is relatively toxic to yeast. A scientist found several years ago and concluded (wrongly) that taking vitamin B3 niacinamide will shorten your life span or longevity, through suppressing the SIR2 silencing gene, which is responsible for longevity.

As a result of this little misinformation, people stopped taking niacinamide and candida and yeast infections skyrocketed. Now the reason for the mistake was relatively simple, the scientist was apparently doing a study on longevity on yeast cells. Apparently in higher animals, fruit flies included, the effect of adding niacinamide resulted in longer life of 15%, as well as human embryo cells.

Therefore, if you have candida, yeast infection, or possibly even a UTI (urinary tract infection), taking niacinamide between 100-500 mg/day could solve this mystery that doctors have a hard time suppressing. In fact, you can expand this idea into applying the use of niacinamide NOT NIACIN, as a means of controlling fungus, since fungus is a relatively close cousin of the yeast also.

This is interesting, since in medicine the two most hardest organism to kill is actually fungus and yeast. It is almost a death sentence if you have this and getting rid of it may mean endless nightmare. Who knows, perhaps dissolving niacinamide with vinegar will be helpful in relieving your toe nail fungus infections.

Therefore a possibility exists from the point of view of biological terrain, candida, yeast and fungus infection is a form of niacinamide deficiency."

OIL OF OREGANO

6 YEA

[YEA]  03/05/2008: Michelle from West Palm Beach, Florida writes: "I couldn't find this one so here goes. Best for kids, as it helps whatever is causing the fever, especially virus. Two drops of Oreganol Oil, on each foot rub it in and fever will break in a matter of five (5) minutes. I have four kids and have used this on ALL of them. It has absolutely always worked.

You can rub a few drops on chest for congestion or sinus trouble too. I have used two drops behind ear (rub all around area) for curing ear infections, ear pain, etc.

You can't beat it for cuts, they will never get infected! Best for little finger cuts as they are hard to keep clean! Also cures toenail fungus, especially seriously infected ones, drop several drops around nail bed, under nail, and around affected toe, with in hours, the pain is gone! Three times a day and the toe infection will be gone in a few days. My friend 6'11" male, was about to go to the ER when I told him to try this, he could barely walk! It was easy to walk in a matter of hours and completely cured in a few days! Three times a day several drops. Epsom salt soaks help to draw out infection and help pain too.

Earth Clinic is my Favorite for everything!"

[YEA]  01/08/2007: Charles from Hillsdale, NY writes: "Oil of Oregano and wearing sandals cured my nail fungus. My injured toenail grew yellow fungus! I found that oil of oregano stopped progression. After reading all info I could find about this, I realized that it always states nail fungus thrives in "dark, moist conditions" So I now wear sandals open air at all times ( not at some work of course) and now the fungus is hardly visible; I don't bother to take oil of oregano that often, now, either This easy step definitely reduces easily the effects of toenail fungus, but I do not know if it actually cures it I hope this info is helpful!"

[YEA]  01/08/2007: Charles from Hillsdale, New York writes: "I would like to add this note to my previous note: I did not/do not have severe toenail fungus. My input should be used for mild cases, to keep from becoming severe Because the oil of oregano did NOT seen to completely eliminate fungus, only "kept it at bay" Same with wearing sandals--it keeps the fungus "at bay" A quick look at toenail today shows clean new growth under small spot of toenail fungus on big toe that used to be 3/4 covered--I'd say 1/8 covered now; next toenail down was damaged; this one still looks like there is fungus but not as bad as it used to be; perhaps half gone; I attribute this reduction to the constant sandal wearing as well as good exercise and diet as I stopped oil of oregano last year and only occasionally use it now So I will try antiseptic mouthwash and get back to you about results. Thank you!"

[YEA]  05/11/2006: Julie from River Grove, IL writes: "I sent in a comment on 5/2/06, and I have an additional comment to make: I noticed some of you have written in and are concerned about how to get rid of the fungal infection in the internal nail. When you use oil of oregano on your nails for treatment of nail fungus, you will notice it is actually absorbed into the entire nail and completely destroys all of the fungus. You will not be disappointed in the results!"

[YEA]  05/02/2006: Julie from River Grove, IL writes: "I am very happy to pass this on to anyone who has this condition because you will absolutely get rid of your discolored/thickened toenails with no side effects! I know because my nails are clear and beautiful again. Apply oil of oregano to your nails with a Q-tip in the morning and evening. You can buy oil of oregano at any health food store. Do this and your unsightly toenails will be a thing of the past. Do this for approximately 6 or 7 months, so your new clear toenails will grow in and that's it! I followed this advice and my nails are completely clear and normal."

OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/23/2006: Marylynn from Louisville, Kentucky writes: "I tried olive leaf extract for overall infection in my body. About 3 months later, during a pedicure, I noticed that my toenails were perfect! I stopped taking it after a while, so finally after a long time, maybe almost a year, the fungus came back. I work in a hot, humid and dirty environment where toenail fungus is a common problem. After discovering this, I looked it up on the internet and read that it does indeed cure toenail fungus!"

OLIVE OIL AND WHITE VINEGAR

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/11/2006: Ellen writes: "I've been using Ozonated Olive Oil & 2 drops of white distilled vinegar at the base of the toenail @ 12 hour intervals. The fungal part is growing out and there is a growing "pink" area between the half-moon and the fungal part. This has been a 30 year fungal infection and this is the most progress that I have ever seen. April through June, I was using many different remedies. But in the last 3 weeks, I have been using the 2 drops at the base of the toenail every 12 hours. This is the cheap white (clear) distilled vinegar that is 4% or 5% acetic acid. And I've been using the ozonated olive oil every 12 hours. I apply it to the toenail and then I cover the toenail with a bandaid, to keep the olive oil in place. I bought the olive oil on ebay. It is working and I am excited! I've been using prescription Thymol in an alcohol solution for over 3 years, and it hasn't done this much. Did I say that I am excited?!"

OTC

1 YEA

[YEA]  03/17/2008: Ellen from Redwood Shores, CA writes: "I've been working on my toenails since December 2005. I've tried numerous remedies, probably 10-20. And for the first time ever, I see pink growth peaking out of the base of my two big toenails. I am doing 2 antifungals twice a day. Every morning and evening, I am applying Fungoid Tincture and then Tineacide. I try to also apply Clotrimazole 2% during the day sometime, but it's not always possible. I started the Clotrimazole 2% on Sept. 18th, Tineacide on Dec. 14th and Fungoid Tincture on Jan. 20th. Then around Feb. 28th or so, I discovered the PINK! So, I am guessing that it's from the application of the FT, since I believe that it takes about a month to see visible growth. I only hope that it continues to grow and that this new pink nail will be resistant to the fungus at the free edge. I don't work for any of these companies. I just wanted to pass along this tip to anyone who has stubborn toenail fungus, like my 35 year old toenail."

RUBBING ALCOHOL

1 YEA

[YEA]  03/15/2007: Rebecca from Victoria, BC, Canada writes: "I had a severe fungal infection under my big toenail. My doctor prescribed antibiotics that I would need to take for a year (lamisil?); this drug had a risk of serious side effects and also required completely giving up drinking alcohol for a year! Before taking the antibiotic, I decided to try just applying rubbing alcohol (50% alcohol readily available and cheap at any pharmacy) twice a day.

I put the alcohol in an eye-dropper and was careful to get as much under the nail as possible; I also cleaned out dead skin if necessary. I did this twice a day, and also at any time when my feet got wet. I saw progress very soon, and the fungus was completely clear in 6 months. I did not lose the nail as had been predicted. I did not change my diet, stop drinking, or take any special supplements - just the external rubbing alcohol directly on/under the infected toenail.

Worth a try for a month; if you are diligent you will see progress and this has to be the cheapest, easiest way to handle the problem."

SEA SALT

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/23/2006: Daisy writes: "Go to mercola.com and key word foot fungus. It will give you all you need to know how to cure foot fungus. You can go to any Whole Foods Store and buy Himalayan Salt, like I did. It works! Bleach and Vicks are not natural remedies. Please do not do these remedies you will harm your liver and kidneys not to mention bleach is also a skin irritant. Read the warning labels and you will see that they are completely toxic. Rule of thumb, if you can't eat it don't put it on your skin. Also, Monostat is not a natural remedy either. It is a fungicide. After a while it will not work. Your fungus will grow immune and will need stronger stuff. You can create a super fungus that can eat your skin away. Don't do it."

SELSUN BLUE

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/26/2008: Ann from Gainesville, FL writes: "I had fungus between my toes and on the side of my feet. I also had some irritation in my groin area. I found info on the web that suggested Selsun Blue shampoo on the fungus..I bought a generic from a local store. It immediately took away the scaling between my toes and on the sides of my feet. I also had 90% less itching/burning in my groin area after 1 treatment.... Instructions suggested 4-6 weeks of daily treatment and then use 2 times a week after that."

SOAP

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/12/2005: ENash from Aurora, Colorado writes: "This may seem too simple, but it is working for me. Simply wash your toes and nails with hand soap. Wash every 2-14 days. Less if becoming dry and cracking. More if fungus is developing on the surface of the toes. Rubbing with a dark towel will show fungus as a light color.

I used Fungicream on my toe which had about a 1/4 inch thickness of fungus under the nail. It worked well, but after 2 months, I developed a bright bloody red rash. I stopped the treatment and washed my toes to get rid of the Fungicream. The fungus bloomed and the nail became worse than ever. Three weeks later the rash began to disappear. I continued to wash my toes. I marked the boundary between the pink nail and the fungus damaged nail with a black permanent marker. The line ran across the nail about 1/8 of an inch from the base of the nail. 5 months have passed and the line has moved to about 60% of the distance from the base. There is only pink nail below the line. No fungus has appeared and the original fungus has crumbled.

I expect that it will take 5 more months to push the nail to the end and I think that it will remove the fungus. I believe that the fungus under the nail needs support from the fungus on the skin and that the oil and cleaning with soap removes the support system. Alternatively, it could be to the Fungicream or other conditions. In any case this is simple, has no cost, and is relatively easy to do. If you don't feel like it is working after 2 months, you could try the Fungicream with the cleaning. Be sure to measure where you put the line. It grows slowly and it is difficult to tell that anything is going on until many months have passed."

TEA TREE OIL

4 YEA

[YEA]  01/28/2008: Jeff (mrjeff99@bigfoot.com) from Bedford, Virginia writes: "I had the toe condition that you see on TV in which the nail dries and seems to die and becomes unattached to the nail bed. The prescription medicine has side effects of harming the liver so I looked for something non-toxic. I read about Tea Tree Oil and ordered some from a well know mail order vitimen supplier. I used a cotton swab and worked the oil under the nail and coated the entire outer nail. Within two weeks the decay had stopped and I could see the nail bed attached to the new growth. I'll continue until the nail completely is replaced and that should take about 8 months (my nails grow slowly) This stuff is great!"

[YEA]  01/01/2007: Anonymous writes: "I am trying Vics Vapor Rub and 100% Tea Tree oil, I do believe the fungus is on its way out as the fungus under the nail is turning Black. What I do is apply the tea tree oil first rub it in and try and get it down the back of the nail, then I rub a good amount of vics vapor rub all over the nail bed. I also filled my infected toe nail in both directions Across and down, allowing the mixture to absorb in quicker I only file once a week so not to make my nail sore. I apply this twice per day once in the Morning and again before bed time. I cover my toe nail up with a cotton wool cosmetic pad and surgical tape to keep it in place while I am sleeping."

[YEA]  07/17/2006: Crystal from VA writes: "I have hard rough skin around fingernails causing them to become brittle; discomforting in daily tasks like typing and basic tasks involving fingers and hands. My nail fungus problem began on my right big toe. I thought it was an in-grown nail. A whole summer I sat out in the sunlight picking at it with a file and tweezers and finally saw a podiatrist. She told me it was fungus and that the only cure was Lamisil. I of course could not fathom the health risks and financial costs the drug involves. I have a strong faith and am Spiritual, therefore I knew there must be some natural remedy for this problem. I asked around and someone said tea tree oil. For the next few weeks I noticed the problem worsening in my other toes, and more recently has started to grow in my fingers.

In my retail job I waited on a customer who happens to own our local health food store. I asked her, and she also said tea tree oil. My next day off, I went straight to her store and purchased a bottle of Thursday Plantation brand of nail fungus therapy with tea tree oil. I started the treatment on my fingers only and noticed immediately that the discomfort had disappeared. The next day the dead skin was peeling off to reveal my fresh healthy skin underneath. I am on day 4 now and my fingers and nails are starting to look and feel like MINE again! When they are back to normal I'll start the real test on my big toe, on which the nail is almost gone! When speaking to the owner of the store at which I made my purchase, she said the remedy works as long as the treatment is administered diligently! So, if you purchase this product, please stick to your regime! To your healthy and happy fingertips, toes and nails! (: ~Crystal"

[YEA]  Kristy from Chicago, IL writes: "I managed to get rid of a fungal nail infection on one toe completely using Jason Tea Tree Oil from Australia ($9.95/bottle). I used it 3 times a day and now the nail is completely fixed. I had the fungal infection on this nail for about 5-6 years. I have two other nails that are infected but it is proving to be more difficult to get rid of. I would definitely give the tea tree oil a try. I am now going to try Vicks vapour rub on the other nails."

TED'S REMEDIES READER FEEDBACK

9 YEA    1 NAY

[YEA]  04/07/2007: Maryann from Groton, CT writes: "Ted's nail fungus treatment worked within 3 days! My large toenail developed a thick and yellowed nail about a year ago. I ignored it until recently I noticed the nail was lifting off just about down to the base of the nail. I was horrified! I quickly went on line and found this site and immediately started Ted's treatment. I cut the nail all the way down as far as I could, ridding the nail of the black fungus. Just a few small dots remained. After just 3 days of the treatment, they disappeared. I continue to daily put on a mixture of tea tree oil, lavender, and red thyme to stave off future attempts of fungus regrowth. I'm ecstatic to know and see my new healthy nail appearing at the base. Thank you for this site!"

[YEA]  12/13/2006: Rich from Commack, NY writes: "I have had an increasing problem of nail fungus on my left hand. It started with my thumb, then my index finger, next to my middle finger. I did not want to take drugs for the problem so I found this site and tried the peroxide, vinegar and bleach method. I did it every night for a month and noticed great improvement. Now I do it twice a week and it is just about cleared up. I soak my hand in peroxide for about 10 minutes, add vinegar to that so that it is 50/50 and soak for another 10 minutes. One way to tell if you are rid of the nail fungus is to observe the nail while it is in plain peroxide. If little bubbles appear at the nail in a fizzing way the fungus is still there. No bubbles, no fungus. I follow this up by using bleach and water and soak again for one to two minutes. My nails look great and I don't have to curl my fingers down when I have to show someone what to do using my hands."
