Diarrhea Remedies
What is Diarrhea?Diarrhea is a condition characterized by very loose or liquid bowel movements, and while it can be inconvenient, embarrassing, or painful, more significant is the fact that the risk of dehydration has made watery diarrhea a common cause of infant death worldwide, and a dangerous affliction in developing nations. The common triple threat of stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea is altogether an unpleasant experience and may be indicative or symptomatic of another disease; diarrhea and vomiting might be the flu. Likewise, inflammatory bowel diseases or irritable bowel syndrome may cause chronic diarrhea. If there is blood visible, it is dysentery.
Diarrhea can commonly occur while you are traveling and experiencing different local bacteria that your body is unfamiliar with and not yet able to tolerate. In some cases it can take up to seven years to develop immunity to these new bacterial flora. Due to fluid loss, diarrhea may cause imbalances in electrolytes and salt levels within the body, making it very important to treat electrolyte loss and stay hydrated.

[YEA] 07/23/2012: Kentucky Mama from Clinton, Ky: "I have been married to my husband for 23 years. I just realized that I haven't bought pink diarrhea medicine for over a year. I used to have to buy it for him regularly. If he gets diarrhea, he (and even my teenage sons! ) head for the charcoal. Some take a few tablets, some put a teaspoon of powder into glass of water. It is amazing how much it helps. My husband's diarrhea has probably decreased also because he doesn't consume much dairy. Ice cream more than once a week always gets him started again. He can tolerate raw goat milk from our goats with no problem. Keep charcoal on hand at all times and read about what it is good for. It is cheap and amazing!"
Replies03/10/2013: Ladyliza from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "If this happened a lot, you might want to find out what was causing all the problems. The doctor can order a fecal test and tell you exactly what the problem is."
[YEA] 01/28/2012: David from Lake Worth, Fl: "This stuff is amazing! I did a Google search for something that would stop diarrhea. I've had it for a week and it intensified yesterday for some reason. I had to go every 30 minutes (even waking up from sleep and having to go)! Apple Cider Vinegar, apples, and yogurt would not stop it. I went this morning to The Vitamin Shoppe and picked up their version of Activated Charcoal since many people on this site swear by it. I took it at 9 am. I haven't had to go since. DEFINITELY a keeper for my medicine cabinet! I thank you and so does my toosh!"
[YEA] 09/01/2010: Kelly from Cincinnati , Ohio: "Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. A friend had diarrhea a few weeks ago and could not take off work. He tried to use immodium anti diarrhea med with no success. I remembered activated charcoal from this website and went with him to the hf store. The directions said to take w/ food so he did and the diarrhea was put in check w/ the first dose (2 caps). Thanks again earthclinic!"
Replies[YEA] 08/08/2011: Dennis from Grand Forks, N.d. replies: "From the military I learned about charcoal for the runs. Hence if plagued by this nusience, I put some bread in the toaster, burn it, apply butter & jam liberaly, eat & within 2 hours all symptoms are gone. cheapest remedy ever."
[YEA] 02/10/2012: Jeanie from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "When growing up we always had charcoal for an upset stomach. It still works on food poisoning also."
[YEA] 05/06/2009: Crista from Pekin, Illinois: "My husband and I are currently in school so our diet is not always the best because we are always studying. Because of this on the occasion food does not agree with us and of course the diarrhea happens, or even just a really upset stomach with maybe quite softer poo later. Anyways, I looked this up on the website and actually other websites as well. I found the activated charcoal in the stomach section of a pharmacy store. It really works. My husband had a particularly bad case so I made him take I think two capsules. He was reluctant, but after he took it he stopped having diarrhea and at the time he was vomitting as well. This stopped it all. It wasn't a miracle feel better, but the erradication stopped instantly. Because he was having an aweful time it took him till the next day to feel better. After that moment when either one of us has a thought of upset stomach we go straight to the activated charcoal. I usually just take one capsule and am done with it. Like I said it doesn't make you feel purfect, but it stops the problems out right. Not only did I use it for this, but because of its absorbtion properties I put it on a bug bite as a paste with water applied it to a bandaid and it stopped itching rather quickly. I think I made that to runny, but it worked well despite my mixing abilities."
[YEA] Odilon from Palm Coast, Fl: "Raw Activated Charcoal, works like a dream for diarrhea, in hours not days."
Replies[WARNING!] 05/18/2012: Doats from Hamel, Minnesota, Usa replies: "Activated charcoal has such great absorbtion qualities but that can cause problems when mixed with medications. I urged my adult son used it for his diarrea and I think it absorbed too much of his seizure medication and he began to have tiny petit mal seizures within a while. Just be careful that you don't absorb a life saving medicine to cure diarrhea."
06/07/2012: Peacock05 from New York, Ny replies: "It is true you are not supposed to take this medicine within a few hours of taking other medicines. I too have seizures and I make sure to take charcoal many hours before I take other medicines."

[YEA] 03/30/2010: Bobbi from Auburn, California: "At the first sign of gastro-intestinal upset take 1/3 cup of aloe vera juice. Relieves diarrhea and associated cramping within 15 minutes. Better than Kaopectate or Immodium AD. It can be purchased in the Health Food section of most grocery stores. The taste is not horrible but not great either. For children the aloe vera juice can be added to orange or apple juice to disguise the taste. I have been using this remedy since 1991 and swear by it."

[YEA] 07/17/2010: Leriejane from Seattle, Wa, Usa: "Eating an apple has always helped my family get rid of diarrhea. It helps your body begin to have tighter stools. We used to have a 'body ailments' chart that listed foods as remedies, and that was one of them."
Replies[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/09/2011: Norak from South Salt Lake, Utah replies: "I've had a terrible bout of LD for the last 2 days -- going between every 20 min to 2 hours or so -- and just a bit ago found this site. After reading all of the comments, I figured I'd try at least one of these remedies where I had the ingredients immediately available. After eating the apple, it seems to have at least calmed my stomach, hopefully it stays that way. This is a great site. Thanks to all who've posted."
[NAY] 08/21/2012: Kelli from Launceston, Tas, Australia replies: "This totally didn't work for me :( I've had diarrhea for five days and this is the only remedy I can try until I get paid tomorrow, the apple has made the nausea worse, and my stomach feels like its burning. Glad it works for some, but will be steering clear from now on I think."
11/04/2012: Molly from Spring Valley, Ny replies: "Have yourself tested for c.difficile, do some research on it."
[YEA] 10/25/2008: Gordon from Columbus, WI: "Not sure why I haven't shared this remedy before for diarrhea. I have used it for years with success. I just take an apple with skin on and shred it. I eat anywhere from 1/2 to all the apple. It has cured diarrhea every time. I have used this remedy with success for more than 10 years. Doesn't matter what brand of apple but I tend to use one that isn't real sweet."
Replies[YEA] 10/17/2011: Jase from Winnipeg, Mb replies: "It works. Amen. Thanks & my bum thanks you too."

[YEA] 12/31/2012: Sick Again from Malaga, Nj: "I was having severe diarrhea for 2 days, getting dehydrated... On the morning of day 3 I tried 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and the diarrhea immediately became less intense. Used ACV 2 times more that day and the diarrhea was almost done. Not a quick fix but I think definitely helped."
12/22/2012: A. J. from Calgary, Ab Canada: "Only saw this one example of diarrhea caused by antibiotics--wondering if other people had results with ACV treatment for antibiotic-related diarrhea.
Taking antibiotics for absess in or on colon related to diverticulitis. Have been in pain, sometimes knife-like, for 5 days. Just started two strong antibiotics yesterday for the absess/infection, and tonight started diarrhea. Want to stop it before I lose sleep and maybe rupture the absess or something.
The postings I read have given me hope, and I will be going to the ACV and honey in a few moments.
Thanks to all who posted and anyone who can tell me about an antibiotic-related case!"
08/08/2012: Mimi from Carmel, California: "I have been sick off and on for 5 days. Imodium always works right of the bat, but not this time - did absolutely nothing. I finally called my doctor for a prescription for Lomotil. Supposed to be a sure thing. I'm still running to the bathroom. I just made a cup of organic ACV, agave and hot water and some steamed rice. I am very optimistic that this will work! I'll post later."
Replies09/17/2012: Andrew from New York City, Ny Usa replies: "Had the runs for a few days - especially as I was eating lots of watermelon. Trying the ACV at first didn't seem to work, probably because I kept eating fruits (actually: watermelons, apples, then cooked vegetables and cooked apples, and meat). On the second try, I only ate some cooked brown rice, with butter (from grassfed cows) and salt. And the diarrhea is gone. Oh and I did also take some probiotics, which I also had taken before without success.ACV: about 2 tablespoons in a little water, followed by a cup of plain water"
[YEA] 11/20/2012: Gogirlusa from Saint Louis, Missouri, United States replies: "I have a horrible intolerance for gluten. I had some homemade bread that was supposed to be gluten free, but there was some cross-contamination because right after I ate it I got really sick. I read about the ACV here on earth clinic and can't belive the difference it made for me. It really helped me feel so much better and soothed my stomach and nausia. I will keep a small flask of this stuff in my purse at all times from now on in case I ever get glutened again! A miracle!"
[YEA] 08/04/2012: Max from Montreal, Quebec, Canada: "We missed an appointment because my son had diarrhea. I read about Apple cider vinegar and its benefits and decided to give it a shot. I gave him 1/3 cup and it stops the diarrhea in half an hour. Amazing. This should be in every home just for the health benefits alone."
[YEA] 05/01/2012: Over-medicated In France from Paris, France: "I have pneumonia for over a month and a half during which I have taken 30 (yes-thirty) days of antibiotics. (3 different ones. Chronic diarrhea for 30 days was easy to deal with-but when the Dr. stopped the antibiotics to finally research the actually cause-one week later I have found myself in agony with acute diarrhea. 4 days now... No probiotic or levure, spasfone or smecta has helped. I am exhasted and in severe pain. I recently cured my vaginal mycose using a ACV douche. Today I read here about the simple idea to use ACV for my stomach/intestinal bacteria. 2 Tblspn ACV 2 Tblspn honey in a coffee cup filled with warm water (like a warm tea). I drank this and feel sooo much better that I can actually Smile again! I will do this 2 times a day until I get my strengthback. Still exhasted but feeling hopeful again! Thank you all for your input! Amazing! God bless you!"
Replies[YEA] 07/09/2012: Jules from Kissimmee, Florida replies: "On a recent out-of-state trip, I caught a case of liquid poop. At first I thought it was because I ate a lot of greasy food one night (ive been sick to my stomach before when I ate a funnel cake at the fair; grease bomb!! ), but after a couple days, I figured it was something more serious. So I started taking that good old pink stuff. However this did absolutely nothing after 2 days. By now, day 4, I was in so much pain from the cramps, and it felt like someone inserted a shop vac up my rectum and kept flipping the inflate/deflate switch. So I decided to check out EC once again for help. I came across the Turmeric cure. So I went to Walg****$ and bought a bottle, and took 6 capsules which is about 1 teaspoon I thought. After that, I thought I was good to go! No gas, no pain, and no liquid poop. However the monster came back just later that night.
So another day went by, another day of sulking. Then I visited the site again and decided to try the dreaded-by-many ACV cure!! Dah dah dahhh. I mistakenly took 2 teaspoons in juice one night, but the recipe was 2 TABLEspoons! So in the morning (when I found out) I again ingested the concoction, this time taking 2 big ones in a glass of juice with honey.
After 6 or so days of diarrhea every 30 minutes, I finally had peace! I was so happy that it was gone. Everything was gone, the cramps, the nausea, the gas surges, and the liquid poop. That afternoon I again chugged 2 more Tablespoons of ACV in juice, just to be safe. Then I was free. That was a week ago, it took me a while to post this but im so glad Earth Clinic saved me again : D Thanks to Jehovah God for ACV"
[YEA] 11/15/2011: Terri from New Port Richey, Fl: "I have been using the advice and testimonials from Earth Clinic for years and have used it many times. But, I haven't had ANYTHING work as well or as quickly as ACV for diarrhea!
I have suffered with a horrible stomach virus for 3 days and the diarrhea was getting worse. I tried Immodium which helped, but when it came back, it was with a vengeance.
In desperation I went to my old friend, Earth Clinic for advice. Once again, most yeas were for ACV! Just as others have said, within 15 minutes, the symptoms stopped! I used 2 Tablespoons ACV with the mother and 2 Tablespoons of organic honey mixed in water. It's a bit hard to swallow, but helps if you have a chaser of tea or other liquid.
Once again, yea Earth Clinic!"
Replies[YEA] 02/27/2012: Bonnied from Hyde Park, Vt, Usa replies: "First time I found the site and am very glad I did! The ACV worked like a charm. I had tried charcoal, Immodium, diet and fiber. NG. But the ACV finally calmed down my GI tract. Whew!"
