Cold Remedies

Updated: 05/12/2008

"Acute viral nasopharyngitis, or acute coryza, usually known as the common cold, is a highly contagious, viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory system, primarily caused by picornaviruses (including rhinoviruses) or coronaviruses.

Common symptoms are sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing and cough; sometimes accompanied by 'pink eye', muscle aches, fatigue, malaise, headaches, muscle weakness, and/or loss of appetite. Fever and extreme exhaustion are more usual in influenza. The symptoms of a cold usually resolve after about one week, but can last up to 14 days. Symptoms may be more severe in infants and young children. Although the disease is generally mild and self-limiting, patients with common colds often seek professional medical help, use over-the-counter drugs, and may miss school or work days. The annual cumulative societal cost of the common cold in developed countries is considerable in terms of money spent on remedies, and hours of work lost." (Wikipedia)

Jean, from Wisconsin sent us this remedy on May 30, 2003. After drinking this recipe hot, writes Jean, "Your sinus congestion will disappear REAL fast. All these ingredients not only work on the immediate symptoms, but add plenty of vitamin C to fight a cold, and garlic to fight infection.

Recipe: Add 1 cup tomato juice, 1 tsp chopped fresh garlic, 1/2 tsp of hot sauce, 1 tsp lemon juice, and a pinch or two of celery salt for flavor. Heat ingredients and drink hot."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

6 YEA

[YEA]  01/06/2008: Jennifer from Rockford, Illinois writes: "I am very predisposed to having cold, sinusitis, bronchitis, and up til now, I have taken probably 1/2 dozen different antibiotics, nasal and oral inhalers, and decongestants. Taking so much at once tended to make me feel worse, and the inhalers ultimately irritated my sinuses. I finally tried a couple different acv recipes to relieve my cough and sore throat. I have not taken one prescription since, and I'm having trouble less often. As soon as I feel a tickle in my throat, I reach straight for the acv. My preferred recipe is 3 parts acv, 3 parts lemon juice, and 2 parts honey with a shot or so of hot water to help dissolve the honey. I've read that organic would be better, but I've just used the standard grocery store stuff, and it's still been nothing short of miraculous. The taste is honestly not as bad as any cough syrup or decongestant I've ever taken, and it's easily twice as effective. The tickle in my chest that precedes a serious coughing fit is STOPPED ALTOGETHER before I even finish drinking this. I am still sort of stunned at how effective this is. Last night I didn't get a chance to mix up a little thermos to bring to work with me, and I regretted it this morning. The congestion in my chest had built up during the evening and overnight, and this morning the cough had settled in a bit. I've been taking a dose every couple of hours, or whenever that tickle comes back, and I've already gotten a lot of congestion out of my chest and sinuses, and my ears have cleared out and everything. This is the most phenomenal and fastest-working remedy I've ever used. I've been spreading the word to my friends and family since. I'll never take decongestants again! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

[YEA]  12/05/2006: Donna from Corona, CA writes: "My 9 yr old daughter was sick and out of school for a whole week. I was giving her cough medicine, cough drops etc...it wasn't working so I took her to the DR. and they gave her some stronger cough medicine and antibiotic's. It wasn't working neither. It got a little better after giving her the entire bottle, but it wasn't completely gone. After sending her back to school for two days, we had a wind storm and it got really cold so she got back sick at school playing outside in the cold. The bad cough and cold came back so this time I went and got $25.00 worth of over the counter cold medicine and a vapor risor, multi-vitamins with extra C etc.. She was still coughing non stop after all this medication and I decided to go online and see what kind of home remedy I could find. God as my witness, it was like a miracle when I gave my 9 yr old the vinegar (2 tble spoon Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar) and water mixture she stopped coughing after about 30 minutes. She was coughing so bad I felt helpless and didn't know what else I could do. After only1 dosage the cough stopped for about 4 hours after that it started back a little and I gave her some more and she's been fine and back to school without any problems. Thank you for a very valuable site! It's amazing I have another story about my son who later that evening got food poisoning from McDonalds and I came to the site for more advice. I gave him 2 tble spoon of vinegar and he's 11 year old. He was fine after that and went to sleep without throwing up or being up all night. The next morning he ate breakfast without any problem. Before when he had food poison it was a night mare I'll never forget. I was up with him all night and he was constantly throwing up. I wish I had of found this when my first child which is 19 yrs old now was born."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR , CAYENNE, PEROXIDE AND BORAX

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/22/2007: Kristy from Lansing, Michigan writes: "Two of my kids have 'tried' to come down with colds during the last two weeks. When my son's hit, he was coughing so hard he was nearly vomiting. My daughter woke up coughing, a very sore throat and her voice was almost gone. Usually I have them do the inhaling of peroxide a few times a day and give them at least 1/4 cup of organic vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, a little cinnamon and water each day. This time I added Borax water (1/8 teaspoon to 1 liter of water) to the mix-and their colds were gone in less than 12 hours. No one was more stunned than I was that it worked so fast! But I shouldn't have been surprised. I have had painful joints from fibromyalgia for years, but sometimes the pain in my right shoulder is almost unbearable (I'm right-handed). The last flare had been going on about 2 months and I was getting very little sleep, which was what spurred my finally giving in and trying the Borax. Within three days the severe pain was gone and I was back to just the normal pain! Now I just need to make myself drink it EVERY day and maybe all the pain will go away.

But, back to the original subject, everyone says there is no cure for the common cold. After what we saw earlier this month, I have to disagree!"

BLACK TEA WITH LEMON

1 YEA

[YEA]  Michelle from Chicago writes: "This has been a cure my mother has been touting for years and she has given us from the time we were kids. I give it to my kids, but I have to admit there are times I lapse out of my "healthy" habits and depend too much on medications, etc.

Recently I caught a very bad head and chest cold. Since I am pregnant, I prefer not to take OTC medications, so I began taking tea and lemon. Immediately I could breathe and felt better. However, after a day or two, I stopped when I shouldn't have, since apparently I was not completely cured. Not only did the cold get worse, but turned into a nasty sinus infection. I suffered miserably for over a week. Then I remember the tea. After drinking one cup, immediately my mucus became thinner and the pressure eased up. I am hopeful to be fully cured in a few more days!

When you make the tea, you should let it steep for several minutes so it turns a nice dark color, and you should use a lot of lemon, like 1/4 to 1/2 of a lemon (fresh juice is the best, but you can substitute bottled). I actually like the taste of it this way, very tart. But, you can add honey to it to make it sweet if you like."

On 12-9 I did the same 3 times and on 12-10 my cold was gone. I will continue for a few more days to be sure the entire cold germ is gone. By the way my husband is still fighting his cold."

[YEA]  Carol from Republic, Washington writes: "Here is the "cure what ails you" I give to my students, and they all use it and are back to the books/ or playing for the basketball team! It has an immediate effect for some:

3 TB Apple Cider Vinegar
3 TB lemon juice, fresh squeezed if possible
2 TB honey
You can add 1/4 tsp cayenne, and 1/4 tsp fresh ginger also if the first three ingredients don't work right away.

Mix in a little warmed water to liquefy, drink, and then rinse the teeth thoroughly. After the initial rush, you can drink warm tea, or water to settle the stomach. Most have an immediate reaction where they get their voice back and clear out the mucus in their nose and throat. Try it, all the kids do, and now even their moms drink it and swear by it! One mom even works at the medical clinic and uses my cure instead of the doctor's one."

[YEA]  12/26/2007: Barbara from Baltimore, MD writes: "From infancy through childhood, teenage years, young and middle adulthood I have always been blessed with excellent health -- with one exception. I suffered from one cold and sore throat after another. While none ever progressed to pneumonia, I would recover from one and then two weeks later feel the start of the next cold. Yet I have never smoked and have had excellent health habits. For whatever reason, about 15 years ago I started to take two to four cayenne pepper capsules a day. A miracle occured. Since then, I rarely contract a cold -- maybe one a year and not as severe as the ones I used to experience. I can't laud the properties of cayenne enough. Be sure to swallow the capsule with enough liquid and you'll have no uncomfortable effect."

CAYENNE AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/19/2007: Sheikh from Bayshore, New York writes: "Ceyenne Pepper remedy and H2O2 remedy: These two remedies are unbelievable!!! My 5 yr old daughter keeps acquiring the cold bug after every couple of weeks. Often times, her cold requires an anntibiotic as a last resort and lot of absent days from school. However, in my quest for a better and a natural alternative, I came across this website. I decided to follow the advice for using ceyenne pepper for the sore throat and H2O2 for her cold. Viola!! Miracle. Since she is only 5 yrs, she could not really gargle, however, she was able to take a sip of ceyenne pepper water, and while holding her breath she held her neck back for a couple of seconds. This way the ceyenne pepper liquid could actually stay in contact with her throat for a couple of a seconds at a time. She felt a lot better after the remedy, and was actually able to go to school this morning.

Now for the H2O2, I mixed one cap of 3% in a half glass of water. Poured 3 drops in each ear. In between the the two ears, I gave a couple of minutes on each side as suggested by all people who had positive results. This morning she woke up with slight nasal congestion but no pain in her throat. awesome!! Thank you all"

COLD SHOWERS

1 YEA

[YEA]  Tim from NSW Kitchener, Australia writes: "I decided to finish every normal 'hot shower' with a blast of totally cold water, after reading a book by an old healer by the name of Jethro Kloss. Anyway, I am a bad asthmatic, and used to get sick around 6 times per year. When I got sick it really affected my chest, with huge amounts of mucous, and real bad asthma.

Now I rarely get sick (it boosts the immune system as well as circulation), and if I do it's usually just a mildly sore throat. I wish I could better explain the massive difference this has made. Even if you feel sickness coming on, a cold shower will often stop it in its tracks."

FIRE CIDER

[YEA]  12/22/2007: Selah from Winamac, Indiana writes: "I recently found this and am trying it and I love it! I plan to start a second batch soon because the first batch will be gone very quickly! It's called Fire Cider. It is effective, easy to make and tasty, though not for the weak of heart. Make a batch before the cold season starts.

1 Quart AC vinegar
1/4 cup grated fresh horseradish
1 onion, chopped
1 head garlic, peeled & chopped
2 tablespoons powdered turmeric
cayenne pepper
1 cup honey, to taste

1. In a glass or stainless steel sauce pan heat vinegar on the stove to where it is warm, but not boiling.
2. Fill a clean glass jar with horseradish, onion, garlic, turmeric, and a pinch or two of Cayenne pepper.
3. Pour in the warmed vinegar and cap with an acid-proof lid.
4. Store in a warm place 3 to 4 weeks; shaking a few times a week.
5. Strain mixture and add enough honey to suit your taste.
6. Rebottle fire cider and refrigerate.
7. At the first sign of a cold take 1 to 2 tablespoons every 2 to 3 hours until your symptoms subside.

I use a mason jar and put wax paper on top before putting the lid on."

GARGLING WITH H202

[YEA]  12/10/2006: Nana from Oak Park, MI writes: "At the first sign of a cold (scratchy throat) I use H2 3% by gargling. I use it straight from the bottle. I've never had the flu. (I'm 56) (I don't take flu shots.) If I do get a cold, (I haven't had one in 3 or 4 years), if I gargle with H202, the cold only last about 2-3 days. If it comes at all! I believe in it healing powers and told my sister to try it on her foot where she has a horn. Her Dr. doesn't know she using it, but is totally surprise that the horn is not growing like it should! She can now walk on that foot with out pain! The Dr still wants to do surgery on her foot, but I asked her to hold off for a while to see what will happen with her using the H2. It has cured colds, cleans the wax out of my ears. I tell my grandsons to use it for their pimples. I use it on the fungus on my toe nails. I didn't know about using it for plants. I will try that next! I love the stuff."

[YEA]  Colleen from Ontario, Canada writes: "I would like to give my natural remedy for : allergy suffers, colds and sinus problems. At the onset of any of the above, put two drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in one ear and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Tilt head and drain on clean tissue. Repeat in other ear. I do this for two days and all troubles are gone. This is also good if you have itchy ears. This is safe and proven to be effective. You may hear a bubbling sound in your ear but don't be afraid. It feels so good when you drain it out of your ear. Once you get past the fear you will wonder how you ever managed without it. Hydrogen peroxide is cheap and available at any drugstore. Just make sure to purchase the 3% type."

[YEA]  Brian from Florida writes: "I have found that peroxide in the ear can stop a cold even after it starts. I lucked up when doing this method, I didn't know about these home remedies then, I was just off from work because I was sick and decided to clean out my ears because I had extra time. Gargling might help to break up irritation and mucus in the throat. I say this because my ears nose and mouth don't seem to be as closed off from on another as the average person. After adding peroxide in my ears, I immediately tasted it in my mouth (really in the back of my throat). It felt like I needed to belch, and when I did, all the stuff in my throat came up. It was weird for me but it does seem to break up and stop symptoms of colds."

GARLIC

7 YEA    1 NAY

[YEA]  11/08/2007: Esther (lores@epix.net) from Lymanville, Pennsylvania writes: "Chewing raw garlic, which is hard on the stomach and bad for the breath, or drinking garlic tea, which is neither, is very effective against colds. To make the tea, chop a garlic clove or two into a cup, add boiling water, followed by lemon and honey to taste. The garlic will settle to the bottom. Be sure to spoon it up and chew well when you have drunk the liquid. Drink a cup of garlic tea frequently, at least once a day, when everyone around you is passing a cold back and forth, or at the first hint of a scratchy throat or runny eyes and sniffles. I am religious about this, and have not had a cold in years."

[YEA]  10/16/2007: Laura from Seattle, WA writes: "I've been using garlic for years for a variety of things. Usually I use it for colds. At the first sign of a cold, chop up 4 cloves of raw garlic and eat. I prefer to use it as a garnish on an already garlicy type food like soups or spaghettie, it helps make the taste not so obvious. Keep up with 4 cloves a day, then reduce the number as your symptoms decrease. This can stop a cold from manifesting, or it will shorten and weaken your colds. I used to have chronic bronchitis after every cold, now I haven't had it in years. I also only get one cold a year usually. Yeah, I don't smell great but I'm not missing so much work!

I will also use raw garlic juice on rashes and bug bites. It stops the itching immediately, and I pretty much use it for anytime I might need a phytoncide."

If it hurts in your nostrils and you sneeze a lot, it's good, it means that there's infection and garlic is killing it. If in some time you stop sneezing, blowing your nose, and it won't hurt in your nostrils any more, put new pieces of garlic into your nostrils. But don't overdo it, otherwise, your nose may start bleeding."

[YEA]  04/07/2007: Jane from Los Angeles, California writes: "I noticed that when I came down with a cold - I would always start to crave raw garlic. So I thought I would try it the next time before the cold took hold. It worked like a charm! Now I use it every time I feel a cold or flu coming on. It has to be raw garlic. I chop a few large cloves (as much as I can handle) finely and sprinkle it on buttered toast or in my food. You should be sure to chew the garlic to release the essential oils. I continue this once or twice a day until i'm better - could take a few days to completely get well - but I have managed to fend off every cold since I discovered the "garlic cure." (this is good for colds and flus except if you are coming down with a stomach bug - in which case it could aggravate your stomach."

Let it sit for a min or two. Add 1-2 tablespoons of honey and stir. Trust me. It doesn't taste as bad as it sounds. The honey helps a lot!"

GARLIC AND CAYENNE

[YEA]  05/28/2007: Shannon from Moncton, Canada writes: "When I feel a cold coming on, I usually take the following: 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, and 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice. I recommend taking it like a shot, and chasing it with water. You should feel it working within a minute.

Another thing I do to stop colds is eat raw garlic. But it's difficult on the stomach, so I'll often toast a piece of bread, butter it, and slice some garlic. I lay the garlic on half of the bread, fold it over, and eat it. It tastes like intense garlic bread."

HOT AND COLD FOOT BATHS TO CURE A COLD

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/04/2007: Gusztav (menyesg@gmail.com) from Veszprem, Hungary writes: "Dear EC,

I would like to post an effective treatment on cold. I learned this cure from a healer.

1) Prepare a basin of HOT water (as hot as your skin can just tolerate).
2) Prepare another basin of COLD water (as cold as possible - from the tap, is usually enough).
3) Put your two feet in the basin containing hot water, keep them in it for 2 minutes, then quickly put them in the other basin and keep them in it for 10 seconds, then back again in the hot water.
4) Repeat these steps for about 15 minutes.
5) Repeat the whole procedure 2-3 times a day. After 1-3 days, you'll definitely get better.

I have applied this treatment for almost 10 years now: it always helped me get rid of cold. Also, I got the positive feedback of some people who I told this.

I hope everyone suffering from cold will find this treatment useful."

I felt a cold coming on but I have two finals next week and a thesis due the week after. In addition, I'm working and have my job duties to attend to too. Basically, I CAN NOT get sick. I found a great apple cider vinegar cure when I got a bad bout of food poisoning from this site and decided to see if there was anything on how to prevent that developing cold in its tracks. Well, I found the hydrogen peroxide remedy. It sounded completely crazy, but I figured what the hell - why not try it? It's cheap and at least my ears would be cleaner ;-) I tried it. I bought some peroxide on the way to the library. I set my cell phone timer for 10 minutes, had some tissue handy, tilted my head to the side, poured the peroxide in (I bought a small bottle with that has a nozzle so it was easy) and let the peroxide go to work. I switched ears and then did it again on both sides for about 5 to 10 minutes for each ear. It worked! That itchy throat I had is gone. That feeling that I was going to wake up sick tomorrow is gone. I truly can't believe it but I'll be doing this again at the first sign of a cold. This is great!"

[YEA]  05/27/2007: Toomba from Kuching , Malaysia writes: "Source: http://www.purestcolloids.com/no-cold.htm Cure for the common cold?

Just about everyone gets a common cold from time to time, though some folks never seem to get a cold. I used to be someone who got at least one cold every winter, sometime two or three throughout the winter and spring months.

Colds are now part of the past for me because I have learned how to become one who seems to never get a cold. What is described below is a very simple method that enables you to never get a cold again (NGACA). This was described to me many years ago by a physician who used it successfully for decades with his patients.

While this method is simplicity itself, it is very important to be alert to the signals your body is constantly sending you. If you pay attention to those signals it becomes clear that there are certain reliable and repeatable signals your body produces to signal the onset of a cold.

For most people the signal is a slight sore throat, scratchy throat causing a cough, runny nose or congested sinuses. These signals which will vary from one individual to another but will generally be recognized as the cold onset signal which precedes the actual cold by usually one day or so.

The onset signal is caused by the body's immune system attempting to counteract the virus and producing an inflammatory response.

The NGACA method is applied on the day the onset signal is recognized or as early as possible once the onset signal is recognized. If you wait until the cold sets in the following day, it will have to run its course and which usually lasts seven to ten days.

Here is what to do when you get the cold onset signal.

1. Get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide (3%) from your local pharmacy.

2. Tilt your head to one side and fill one ear canal with hydrogen peroxide using an eye dropper. Fill the ear canal completely. This assumes you do not have a ruptured ear drum!

3. Within one to two minutes you will notice bubbling in the ear. This indicates that the peroxide has found something that should not be there. Let the peroxide stay in the ear until it stops bubbling. If the bubbling has not stopped after five minutes, drain out the peroxide and refill the ear with fresh peroxide. When the bubbling has stopped, drain out the ear.

4. Repeat the procedure on the other ear.

That's all there is to it! It is important to perform this procedure at the earliest signal of cold onset. If this procedure is done in a timely fashion, the symptoms that signaled the cold onset will subside within a few hours and you will not come down with a cold.

As an added bonus, the hydrogen peroxide dissolves ear wax and will leave your ears free of wax and free of disease causing pathogens.

Why does this work? This method works because the rhinovirus which causes colds enters the body through the ear canals and the hydrogen peroxide kills the virus before your body gets infected.

In 1928 Richard Simmons, M.D. hypothesized that colds and flu virus enter through the ear canal. His findings were dismissed by the medical community. According to Dr. Simmons, contrary to what you may think or have been taught about how you catch the flu or the cold there is only one way that you can catch the two, and that's via the ear canal not through the eyes or nose or mouth as most have believed.

In 1938 German researchers had great success using hydrogen peroxide in dealing with colds and the flu. Their data has been ignored for over 60 years."

At the first sign of a cold we put an eye dropper full into each ear, one at a time. Do one ear first while lying down so the solution does not run out. After about 10 min turn over and do the other ear for another 10 min. This should nip the bug before it starts. This is safe for children as well. Be careful with the strength. You will hear bubbling which is the H2O2 working."

(Sometimes it tickles intensely... the first time I used it, I couldn't believe how much it tickled!) I leave it in for five minutes, then drain it out. I've been surprised at how effective it is in speeding my recovery, or even nipping a cold or flu bug in the bud. Oddly, putting it in my ears also helps to clear my sinuses. Your ears, nose and throat are connected- I believe it's through the eustation tube. I keep 3% peroxide in a bottle with an eye dropper so that I can do this myself. Lie on your side. Have a washcloth handy for any mop ups you may need and for when you empty your ear. Fill eye dropper with peroxide. Put in your ear. Lie on your side for 15-20 minutes. Do deep breathing as long as possible so that the affects of the peroxide also reach your nose and throat. When the 15-20 minutes are up place the wash cloth over your ear and turn to the other side. Repeat in 2nd ear. I have found this remedy to be very helpful. It is helpful to me when doing this to use a timer because I either get lost in the book I'm reading or fall asleep."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SNIFFING METHOD!

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/21/2007: Grant Greene (g3eng@aol.com) from Lafayette, Colorado writes: "I have been using the following method to treat all colds for the past 15 years, and since first trying it, use nothing else to treat colds. I use the cap from the peroxide bottle and put 1/4 cap of peroxide the rest of the cap is filled with water dripped from the faucet. I put a finger over one nostril and sniff the mixture up the other nostril. I repeat this with the other nostril. One cap full (1/4 peroxide 3/4 water) usually will treat both nostrils. When the solution drain down the nostril passage to the throat I spit it out and blow my nose. Guess what? Instant relief then and there not ten minutes later but then and there. When you blow your nose you will be amazed at what come out. This is especially great for head colds, but also sore throat and stops coughing colds as well. I usually only have to do this twice at about 8 hour intervals. After that or by the next morning were talking, what cold? I have not tried using the inhaling through the mouth method since I have discovered that the cold always appears to be in the nostril passage. Even the sore throat symptom is in the nasal passage between the nose and throat and you will feel where it is when the mixture drains down the nostril passage. If you find that a 1/4 peroxide to 3/4 water too strong, i.e., stings too much, use slightly less peroxide and more water. I sniff rather than spray the mixture as I found that spraying does not atomize and coat the entire nostril passage as well as when the mixture is sniffed. Try it and you will also be amazed."

MOUNTAIN TEA

I rarely get the opportunity to drink it, but as a tea lover, I must say that Mountain tea tastes amazing, and does seem help you get over a cold. Though we get ours from back home as well, I have actually seen it in Toronto at the Big Carrot (www.thebigcarrot.ca), sold in the tea aisle by a company called teas by voudou or something. Good luck."

MSG (!)

2 YEA

[YEA]  12/12/2007: Roman from Chicago, IL writes: "This is under the cold remedies cure catgory. Anytime I feel the slightest hint of a cold coming-on, I eat something that has MSG. flavored potato chips, and drink a glass of red wine,or a glass of orange juice. Monosodium-glutamate is also found in canned soup, not all of them use it,you need to read the label. This sounds funny-but it really works. When there was a rash of cold and flu outbreak at my workplace, I made this suggestion, but no-one took me seriously. But I never got sick."

[YEA]Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Assuming you were right, still the monosodium glutamate would destroy the other functions pituitary, thyroid and most importantly, the control centers of the brain, the hypothalamus. There are countless research on the the dangers of monosodium glutamate. It should also be noted that a chicken soup, not in a canned one as it contains female estrogen, that is found in nearly all plastic lined canned foods and packaged food made from Bisphenol-A, where accumulative effects may also lead to miscarriage, obesity also.

It would be a lot safer to take L-Glutamine, which is a close cousin of the Monosodium glutamate, but doesn't have the brain damaging effects of the sodium attached to the glutamine molecules. The L-Glutamine has immune supporting effects and protect against cold. Adding l-glutamine with freshly cooked chicken soup (never canned), which is cysteine rich, with added vinegar would have been a better safer alternative. L-Glutamine is popularly used by body builders to reduce fat, but increase muscle mass, while monosodium glutamate does the opposite, by stimulating the appetite, but yet causes morbid obesity in rat studies, decrease growth and endocrine damages, so well known in many rat studies. A remedy for this cold require about two of L glutamine, with freshly cooked chicken soup and plenty of vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)."

OIL OF OREGANO

[YEA]  09/21/2007: Melissa from San Diego, CA writes: "I was suffering from a very bad cold/flu, specifically horrible sinus pressure and chest tightness and coughing, and clogged ears. The last thing I tried was Oregano Oil. I used one drop sublingually and put a few more drops in water and felt immediate relief from the cough/chest tightness and sinus pressure as I was able to expectorate all the mucous. I think all the remedies listed for colds, sore throats, coughts etc. have merit but apparently different people require different remedies. So keep trying until you find the one that works for you. Plus most of them tell you you're nuts for even trying them. I had one once about 3 years ago tell me to quit taking all the supplements I was taking that I didn't need them. Well, I beg to differ. They made me feel better and if I quit taking them I started feeling horrible again. So I kept right on taking them. I take supplements, Apple Cider Vinegar in herbal tea with honey, ginger and lemon and I feel pretty good. Haven't been sick in a long time. TABASCO SAUCE CURE

I try to avoid medications and doctors visits because I don't really have the money to spare, and I'm not a fan of over the counter medicines like DayQuil (nature never intended anything to be that orange!) Today is my last day of vacation before I have to return to school, sad story, I know. And my boyfriend is home from college so I want to see him, only natural. But the last thing I want to do is get him sick, or feel crappy while I'm with him. I usually just wait out a sickness, let my body fight it off. I don't have time to waste in bed any more though. So I came to Earth Clinic and read about the Cayenne Pepper but I don't have any of that. Then I read about TABASCO! Funny thing was while I was sifting through the medicine cabinet I looked at the bottle and though "I bet that would clear my sinuses" but I didn't want to irritate my throat. So I mixed it with hot water, lemon juice, and honey. It's sweet with a nice spicey kick I love it and in five minutes I can breath out of one side of my nose and my throat doesn't hurt anymore! I really hope that this helps long term as well but if you need instant relief, try this!"

TED'S REMEDIES

1 YEA

[YEA]  Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "If I am sick, I take a small pinch of sodium perborate (borax) and H202 concentration of 0.5% in a half glass of water. I also mix 1 cup of 3% H2O2 and mix with about 2 gallons of water to take bath with it. I also mix 1% H2O2 as a mouthwash until all fizz disappears. The reason why our colds don't go away easily is the virus overload and lack of oxygen in cellular level. Viruses are so common here, that I have to develop my own method to get rid of them. This regime has cleared my skin and I actually look younger by at least 5-10 years. Something has to do with oxidizing toxins by H2O2.

Again I am not recommend anyone try this out of legal problems. This is how I treat myself and my average length of a colds lasts between 1/2-1 days. Without treatment, my colds would last an average of 14 days (including the coughs). The longest I have the cold using the new regiment is about 2 days (which by my standards is very unusual). And the reason why it lasted so long was that I treated my colds on the second day!

I use this whenever I have a cold and works a lot better than putting 3% H2O2 in the ears! You see, oxygen is also absorbed through the skins when you take bath with it."

Additional remedies: For viruses: Try unsweetened green tea. Or make your own herbal fresh chinese parsley tea. FRESH Chinese parsley tea will chelate a lot of toxic metals. You can do this by using a blender and put a bunch of chinese parsley mixed with water. I prefer FRESH as opposed to DRIED.

Above all else if you have a virus, the three things that are most important are: sodium bicarbonate (to alkalinize your blood - 2 teaspoon/day while you are sick), N Acetyl Cysteine (Flumucil, Mysolven, etc.) and Zinc (chelated zinc or zinc acetate).

P.S. Killing viruses along a respiratory tract is a difficult one. But to use vinegar as a humidifier and breathing in will kill them on contact. The idea is to prevent viruses from reaching the blood which will cause fever. I have never have a fever from viruses even if IT IS THE FLU!!!! There are several ways I deal with it which is to take between 1-3 cc of 3% H2O2 (food grade) diluted with 1/2 glass of water taken at 2, 5, 10, 15, 30, 1 hour, 1.5 hour apart. This dose should be more than enough to kill them. Actually, by the 3rd or 4th dose they are completely dead in the blood anyway. However, reinfection is a real issue as they still stay in the respiratory tract. So you have to figure out the rest of the dose, perhaps at a much lesser dose spaced only 1.5 hours apart. Most people will not take this high dosage as me, but I am assuming I am having the bird flu so the dose will be larger.

Aspirin have a very strong antiviral properties especially when you add the caffeine together, many countless lives are actually saved with this. I am not telling you how to treat yourself, because that would be illegal. I am telling you how I would treat myself.

Another simple add on I take before I have a flu coming is to alkalize myself with a 1 teaspoon of citric acid plus 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Zinc acetate helps, but it just reduces the fever and tiredness. So take that too.

I haven't yet solve the respiratory issue in killing viruses, but I have solved the issue of killing and preventing them from reaching your blood and causing a fever. So as you can see I am only confident I will not get fever from any colds with the remedies. Most important of all is to absolutely avoid eating sugar, sweets, starches, white bread, they make the conditions exponentially worse. If you want to eat something as a salad, eat fresh olive leaf. They are antiviral."
