I won't go without the Acidophilus ever again!"

BAD BREATH -- REMEDIES WORKED FOR A COUPLE DAYS ONLY
[YEA] 01/17/2008: CR from Marion, IN writes: "I have used the ACV and Baking Soda everday since a found this web site. It work really well the first couple of times, also I do the oil pull every morning. After the third day the really bb returned. I used the lemon juice and soda and the perorixde rinse for sinus and it still work for sinus drainage. I drink coffee after the oil pull, and the ACV on a empty stomach. Could the coffee be the reason why my mouth is so dry and stale after completing the OP, and the ACV, and the mouth rinse? Is there any mouth rinse that I could use after eating food, that will make my breath smell clean and fresh. I tend to have a white coating on my tongue after drinking and eating anything. My breath smells terrible. I have to brush my teeth and tongue sometimes three and four times a day and still my breath still have a foul odor. please tell me what to use for this continuous problem."

1 YEA 1 WARNING![YEA] 01/28/2008: Anne from Elliston, VA writes: "Hello I noticed a lot of people out there are concerned with bad breath. Some of you have mentined metal tast or sulfar taste or seeing a white or yellowish lump in the back of your throat. These are in your tonsils. They are called tonsil stones. They smell really bad and they cause a person to have really bad breathe, it smells like a toilet in your mouth. You can take a popscicle stick and express it out. I have heard that you can gargle with salt water and peroxide each day to help them to be fizzed out and not to form any more. Also you can use a netti pot. It is a little pot that you fill with 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of baking soda. Mix this in about 1 quart warm water. You only have to use 1 cup at a time or you can buy the premade packets. You get 50 with the little pot. You can buy a netti pot at Wal-mart. Use it everyday. If you have a sinus infection you can use it 3 or 4 times a day All you do is hold your head over the bathroom sink and put the pots spout in one nostril and do it unti a stream of the solution comes out the other side of your nose. It really helps with sinus problems. Also it helps to loosen up the tonsils stones. You can use the pot everyday. Hope this helps."

1 YEA[YEA] 04/02/2006: Dilshod from Tashkent writes: "For almost two years, I have been self-conscious about my bad breath. I always kept myself at least a meter away from my friends, not to mention about girls. I visited several dentists, but none couldn't tell any concrete solution. Recently, a dentist told me to wash my mouth, especially back of my tongue with a BAKING SODA before going to sleep and to take a pill, called Flunol. I washed my mouth with baking soda, but did not take the pill, as it was expensive. To my great surprise, it was enough to get rid of the bad breath. Within ten days, it is almost gone. I still can't believe it and just before writing this message, I checked it, putting my finger in the back of my tongue. it's gone. I know there are many people with the same problem and i want to say those people not to spend much money on those expensive pills and liquids. Instead, look for a cheap, home remedy. And if you really want to get rid of your bad breath and believe in that, you will do it. If anyone of you know how to get rid of black spots, natural moles on the face, please share it with me. Thanks."

1 YEA[YEA] 12/07/2007: Monique from Windsor, Canada writes: "My son had the worst breath I've ever smelled. I took him to the dentist, no problems with his gums or teeth. I kept on making him rinse his mouth with mouthwash and chew gum. It was so bad when you opened his bedroom door it would make you gag. I couldn't figure out why. Low and behold one day I was figuring out my budget and how I could cut back. So while I was grocery shopping I decided not to buy my son's regular 2 blocks of cheese per week. It was something he would have to do without. After a couple weeks of not eating cheese, we noticed his breath was refreshing. I was so happy, I realized right away it was the cheese since it was the only change from his regular routine. To this day, he eats cheese once in a while but does not suffer from bad breath. Hope this will help some other people with this terrible problem."

Why not claim charity care in a hospital or clinic? In NJ you can always get granted that status if you are low income or not working. Are other states so different or are you ignorant or just chicken to go to the dentist. It really doesn't hurt at all with numbing meds and its really neurotic not to go. How can you stand bad breath? I can't stand being near people with bad breath."

1 YEA[YEA] 05/06/2007: Sandra from Near Atlanta, Georgia writes: "Thank you for this site. It is so informative and helpful! I discovered it a few months ago after I did a search for more information on oil pulling after hearing about it on a radio show. Since then I occassionally browse your site. I have yet to try the oil pulling, but I have started using Apple Cider Vinegar and the Blackstrap Molasses. I have not been consistent with the Blackstrap Molasses, but it has helped me. I am anemic with a fibroid & feel the difference in my energy & appearence. I have been using the ACV every day. I drink it in the mornings and I also put it in bottled water & take it with me to work to sip on all day. This has helped me with bad breath and is strengthening my gums and teeth.
I also want to share something that will stop bad breath that I have not seen discussed anywhere. I know from personal experience how big this problem can be. Perhaps my experience will help someone who is hurting and needing help as I was. I quit a very good job because of my problem. I suffered a lot of hurt and embarrassment not to mention the financial stress of being unemployed. At the time I could not see another solution to my problem. My job required talking on the telephone with customers all day long and being in close quarters with many co-workers. I could not afford to go to the dentist. Even though I had that job I was not yet eligible for dental insurance. I wish I'd found the solution before I quit. I had very bad breath from infected gums and an infected tooth with a hole in it. I tried all kinds of things, but nothing would stop the smell. I tried several things and added more things as I discovered them. (Peroxide, baking soda, lots of vitamin C, etc.) Then I decided that I could temporarily plug up the hole with cotton soaked with Tea Tree Oil. Then I started using some dental wax to cover the cotton. That helped a lot, but the smell & taste from the infected tooth came back after a very short period of time. Then one day I decided to see what herbs the herbalist Dr. John Christopher recommended for my problem. In that search I found information on Echinacea. He said this herb actually eliminates foul odors and fetid discharges. It's anti-putrefactive, and arrests pus formation. Also it is an excellent healing agent wherever tissue decay is taking place and it is a blood purifier. I immediately found some Echinacea and Goldenseal capsules that I had sitting around and took some. Then I opened one of the capsules and poured some of the powder in the hole in my tooth and packed it with the Tea Tree Oil soaked cotton. This WORKED! The Echinacea & Goldenseal powder got rid of the odor! It's getting rid of the infection. It turns out that Goldenseal is also good for periodontal disease. It also helps with digestive disorders that might cause bad breath. I'm thrilled! I now have another good job that is in some ways better than the other one. It also requires that I talk to customers on the telephone all day and be in close quarters with co-workers. Everything is fine there. I have not been to a dentist yet, but my bad breath and gum infection is under control. I will eventually have to go to the dentist to have the hole filled, but I am so happy that this problem is solved. No more embarrassment from having bad breath and I don't have to make an expensive trip to the dentist without insurance. Again, THANK YOU for this site. You don't know how much you're helping by the information you provide."

GOOD ORAL HYGIENE, NASAL CLEANSING AND SUPPLEMENTS
[YEA] 02/28/2008: Angel from Miami, USA writes: "topped my bad breath with good oral hygiene, nasal cleansing and supplements.
I removed a piece of popcorn kernel from under my gum which had a terrible smell. After that, my dentist and doctors said I was in good health but I still had bad breath for the next 2 years.
My oral routine is now an enzyme promoting toothgel and mouthwash(that treat my dry mouth and contain xylitol), floss, a tongue scraper, and an anticeptic oral cleanser containing carbamide. I floss, then crape my tongue gently. Then put 10 drops of carbamide gel on my tongue, mix with saliva and spit. I put 3 drops of carbamide gel on my soft bristle toothbrush then brush my teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue. Rinse and gargle with mouthwash. That's ususally three times a day. And about 3 times a week I polish my teeth, etc before I brush -- mix in my hand of 1 tsp each of baking soda and salt with a little water.
I cleanse my sinus/nasal area with a nasal irrigator a few times a week with 1 tsp each of salt and baking soda. Or twice a day if I am having sinus problems.
The other key was treating my sinus/post nasal problem with whole food supplements that contain supercritical garlic and oregano. Also changed my mouth and body's smell with a whole food supercritical antioxidants blend like tumeric, clove, ginger rosemary. And sip plenty of water through the day to stay hydrated. If I chew gum, it contains xylitol.
I needed to do a better job of brushing when and how I should. My body just needed supplements to be more healthy. The byproduct is I generally just feel better. The best thing is for the first time in years, I am not self conscious when I kiss my husband."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE -- BEST REMEDY!
[YEA] 02/02/2008: lynn from york, pa writes: "I use over the counter 3% hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash, but have always disliked the aftertaste. I purchased a bottle of peppermint oil from the baking section of my local market, and put one tablespoon in an eight ounce bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Mouth feels very clean (and now minty fresh, too!) Others may like to add their favorite flavors, increasing or decreasing the measurement according to taste. Make sure to GENTLY shake your bottle before opening to keep peppermint oil evenly distributed, and keep your mouthwash in an opaque bottle (I use the same brown bottle purchased at the dollar store). Refrigerate if your bathroom is very warm, and keep bottle out of direct sunlight."

My story (I'll try to be brief)... got a piece of food stuck in the gum behind one of my front teeth. No matter what I did -- floss, oil pull, swish peroxide -- it didn't come out. I then went to a new dentist last week to have my teeth cleaned and the stuck particle removed. Lucky me -- the hygenist was just filling in for the day and during the teeth cleaning part, said she saw something dislodge but then "lost sight of it". Okay, fine, I thought. That night I awoke in the middle of the night with terrible bad breath. It was so bad it actually woke me up. Yes, I do have sensitive smell!! When I looked at the right front tooth the next day, I noticed that the gum was severely swollen, from the tooth to the roof of the mouth. The bad breath also persisted. I started my holistic regime of oil pulling, then later swishing with hydrogen peroxide. The oil pulling, like Subashini said, made my breath worse. YUCK! I tried swishing with sea salt. No luck. Finally I had the idea a couple of days ago to soak a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide and then hold it (tightly) to the swollen gum for 10 minutes. I also pinched another h202 soaked cotton ball to the back side of the tooth where the piece of food had initially lodged. Interestingly, it didn't hurt, but certain areas of the gum turned white. 10 minutes later the white had disappeared. Glad to say that my bad breath smell immediately disappeared and has not returned. My gum is looking a little better. A couple more days of this (soaked h202 2x a day) and I think I will be back to 100%. I highly suggest this technique if you have a tooth abcess or swollen gums from an infection. It is the best way for hydrogen to penetrate, otherwise it just turns to foam if you swish it around in your mouth.
So Subashini, I think your issue may be an infection somewhere in your gums that the oil pulling is bringing to the surface. Infection smells like dental plaque -- quite disgusting. My suggestion is to pull up your top lip (then pull down the bottom lip) in the mirror in daylight and look for redness in your gums. If you can pinpoint an area, then soak it with hydrogen peroxide cotton ball 2x a day for a day or two. I would predict that your issue of bad breath will immediately go away, even after you oil pull.
Oh, one more thing. You will need to bend over a sink whilst holding the cotton ball to your gums and let your saliva run out. You may need to do round 2 during the same session. Most importantly, you don't want to swallow anything! Rinse well afterwards. Hope this helps someone, somewhere. All My Best,"
[YEA]09/27/2007: Subashini from Kuwait, Kuwait replies: "hi, i tried oil pulling with sesame oil.i have done it for nearly 10 months not even 1 day left out.still my irregular period problem has not solved...only good thing is tartar in teeth's have disappeared... generally i do not get bad breath..after started doing oil pulling i am getting it now.once i leave oil pulling again the plaque formation started in my teeth....if i stop oilpulling bad breath stopped... i am highly optimistic charactor....how much i can convenince myself to continue it,,,,it is not working well.... Also by searching the cold pressed sunflower oil...i am tired too much...normal sunflower oil within one day bad breath starting....i don't know why...whom to get guidence from which website we do interaction with experts... www.oilpulling.com is only giving fewer information.... please advise me if i am wrong...i strictly follow the instruction how to do oil pulling even though it happends to me like this.."

1-Do gargles with hydrogen peroxide. All the bacteria accumulated by years will be killed and your breath will be as fresh as it can be.
2-Do the same once a week or maybe once a month. If you still have any problem, that I doubt it, probiotics will be the solution for getting rid of bad breath if it is accompanied by body odor.
But the first step is the gargles."

EC: We read somewhere on the internet a few months ago that hydrogen peroxide can potentially wear down dental fillings, but is fine for dental enamel (it's what they use in teeth whitening formulas). We rinse with it every few days and have NOT noticed any fillings deteriorate!

SCRAPING THE TONGUE AND RINSING WITH WATER AND SALT
[YEA] 04/26/2006: Bayardo from San Antonio, TX writes: "This truly works! It is much better than all the products advertised by the media--which claim to heal “foul-smelling breath.” I used to go through the embarrassment of having “bad breath” even a little while after brushing my teeth thoroughly and meticulously. A friend told me to scrape my tongue with either a “plastic spoon” or a “separate hard toothbrush.” I opted for the second option.
This is how to do it: Brush your tongue repeatedly in all areas, especially as much inside the throat as possible--even if it causes a small regurgitative spasm. Before you rinse the brush, smell the bristles to see if the foul smell is still there. Repeat this process a few times; of course, keep on rinsing the toothbrush, and stop after the bristles have no bad odor whatsoever.
It is important to remember, “not to use the same toothbrush that you use for your teeth.” I do this in the morning before I go to work, after meals and before I go to sleep. It is a fantastic natural cure. I really thank God that I am free from fetor ex ore!
P.S.: To gargle with concentrated salt water once or twice a week is also a very good idea. This enhances the process explained above by getting rid of build up in the tongue, which harbors foul-smelling microorganisms."

1 YEA[YEA] Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "There are several possible causes for bad breath:
1. Cavities. One small cavity in the tooth with some food in there is one main cause. Get it capped.
2. Acidic body. Take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid twice a day. Get plenty of sleep so the body can restore the bicarbonate levels.
3. Brushing your teeth with sea salt powder on every part of the gums and every nook and cranny especially the back gums and teeth both inside and outside the jaws. Extremely important NOT to leave any stones unturned. Do this three times a day. Morning, Lunch and before sleep. If that doesn't work, brush with sodium perborate, use flossing, and prepare a 3% H2O2 mouthwash.
4. Lack of stomach acids. To drinking water add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt per liter of water. Or take betaine HCl to restore the stomach acids. If foods are well digested, stomach acids should be eliminated.
5. Improper digestive system. Usually when constipation comes, it is obvious you will have bad breath. A simple remedy is to drink 1/4 teaspoon of Magnesium chloride everyday and eat more high fiber foods. Avoid all white flours, vegetable oils, margarine, canola oils, sugar. Eat millet or whole wheat. No pizzas, sandwiches, shakes, and ABSOLUTELY NO MILK. Milk will cause bad breath within minutes.
6. Improper blood sugar. If the body is high in blood sugar, just avoid all vegetable oils, fried foods, soda, high carbohydrate diets and take 9 mg. of biotin per day plus 1 teaspoon of granulated lecithin. This will help body get rid of excess fats and reduce the blood sugar. Vitamin D3 or D4 also works.
7. No late night meals! The digestive system doesn't work well in late evening!"
