[YEA]  11/09/2006: Tammy from Wellston, OK writes: "Last year I had a spider bite on my inner thigh. At first it was just a small red bump, but then it grew into what looked like a ring worm. A week later it was the size of a tennis ball and the center of it was a infectious white and itchyyyy as poison ivy. I showed it to my family in India via web cam, she knew immediately what to do. Said just wet it, pour table salt on it and let it sit for at least 20 min. After about one minute it began to burn some, nothing unbearable, although i only let it stand for about 5 min as I'm a big baby. It WORKED!! Dried it up in a matter of days. Since then, I have done this remedy for a number different insect bites, even have done on poison ivy and same result. A few days of doing this once at night cleared it. You can literally feel the salt drawing out the poisons."

Or bacon, which I have used personally on mild staph boils. Sliced & put against skin (boil)with bandage over it. Change out 3-4 times a day,& you should see an incredible improvement within 36 to 48hrs. The fat (or oils) sure seem to be the DRAWING ticket. The bandage thing was much easier for on the job working conditions, & on the kids, it's almost a must."

I am rushing out now to buy some tumeric. I also find Scheussler tissue salts help - I take all the blood cleanser ones as well as the hayfever since that addresses allergies generally. Rubbing a fresh cut onion as often as you like on the boils also helps enormously, and use antiseptic cream and phisohex wash. Hope this helps others."

Now that I have sea salt again, my outbreak is calming down. Ted is absolutely correct about sea salt. There are studies showing that magnesium inhibits staph. Sea salt is rich in magnesium. Everybody in this forum needs to pay close attention to Ted."

[YEA]  12/03/2008: Amy from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA writes: "Homeopathic Silica/Silicea for Boils

I wrote to you a few days ago about a yeast infection after half a dose of turmeric. I'm writing you now to tell you what finally worked for me.

After treating the yeast infection, I tried turmeric capsules with a probiotic for two days. The yeast did not come back, but the boils didn't get any better -- in fact, one got worse. I've had two below the waist for quite some time that weren't very painful. My doctor told me I had "a little hidradenitis suppurativa" and if I didn't want to take antibiotics there wasn't really anything she could do for me; just continue the hot compresses and hope for the best.

Last week during the yeast infection treatment I got another boil that was much more painful. It just kept getting bigger and more painful until I could barely sit down or walk. I've tried everything; the turmeric internally, along with, topically: aloe vera, calendula salve, Neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, hot compresses, hot Epsom salt compresses, baking soda with honey, and this one just kept getting bigger and sorer and more distended.

Since I've responded well to homeopathy in the past, today I googled "homeopathy boils" and found several sites that listed a number of remedies that help with this problem. I chose Silica/Silicea (it's spelled both ways) as the description sounded most like what I was suffering. I went to the health food store and got the remedy (30C) and took a dose right away. Two hours later, I felt quite sleepy and chilled and went to bed. I woke up 40 minutes later to find that the two largest boils closest to the surface of the skin were draining bloody fluid. I had chills really bad all afternoon but I've continued to take the 30C dose every 3-4 hours as recommended and the wounds have kept draining all afternoon and evening. The smaller boils that I had are already starting to get smaller from the inside. The largest, most painful one is much smaller and less painful and as long as I can keep it clean I imagine it will eventually heal fine. I'm so relieved that the pain is going away and hopeful that the problem will resolve in a few days or weeks."

HAD A RECURRING BOIL FOR OVER A YEAR THAT JUST WOULD NOT GO COMPLETELY AWAY, HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS REMEDIES, HARDLY ANY WORKED EXCEPT FOR THE VINEGAR DIRECTLY ON THE BOIL, BUT THAT WAS TEMPORARY I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO STOP IT FROM COMING BACK. SURELY ENOUGH I CAME ACROSS THAT WEBSITE AND I TRIED THE SILICA AND THE BOIL IS ALMOST GONE IT'S BEEN ONLY TWO WEEKS AND I FEEL BETTER, BOUGHT SILICA AT MY LOCAL HEALTH FOOD STORE, I WAS AT MY WITS END WITH THIS BOIL THING, BUT THE SILICA SEEMS TO HELP LIKE NO OTHER. THE ANTIBIOTICS DIDN'T HELP OF COURSE, THIS JUST MAY BE IT. JUST THOUGHT I'D POST IT HOPEFULLY IT WILL HELP SOMEONE ELSE."

SQUEEZING THE CORE

[YEA]  01/12/2010: M. E. from Columbus, Ohio writes: "The only boil I ever had was on my knee after skinning it on playground sand in California 66 yrs ago. I don't remember what the doctor did for it, but I do remember him squeezing the core out of it. I have heard that 'resentment' is at the basis of a lot of boils, and once I mentioned that to a relative, her son's endless boils seemed to go away. Glad to hear about the turmeric, as I have been thinking about getting some.

Keep up the good work...."

EC: Thanks for the feedback, Mr. E.

We do have a few posts on the site warning people not to squeeze, lance, or apply heat to a boil as doing so can spread the infection. This can be especially dangerous if the boil is MRSA.

I had a course of anti-biotics which didn't help, I then got another boil, not long after. I took 'staal druppels' I cannot remember how many drops at a time, only for a couple of days, I have not had a re-occurence of boils since then.

EC: staal druppels (translates to "steel drops") is a liquid that bonds open wounds. Does not appear to be sold in the USA.

STOP ANTIBIOTICS, STOP SHAVING

02/08/2012: Light Bulb from Ny writes: "Hello, I am a long time sufferer of boils, ingrown hair, and eczema. I have tried evrything u can think of to cure my ailments. Over the counter, scripts. U name it I have tried. I used to get boils mainly in the pubic area, and under my arms, and on my inner upper thighs, buttocks. Ugh. It was driving me crazy. First off what I did to try and cure it was stop taking the antibiotics. Now do not negate the fact that if you have a bad infection you need antibiotics to ward off the infections. What does the damage is the continuous intake of the drug because you build an immunity to it. Therefore it gets harder for you to the fight the infection off. It is crucial that you only use anti bacterial ointments or soaps on the place of infection. You lessen the depletion of the natural flora (good bacteria) that your body is supposed to have. Next stop shaving. It is better to cut down hair in the most sensitive areas of your body because they get the least exposure therefore are more prone to developing infections."

It was usually done by"LANCING THE BOIL"removing the scab then pulling the core out,"HURTS LIKE HELL"! My Grandmother couldn't bring herself to causing me a lot of pain, so she called me into the kitchen one day, I remember having 5 or 6 on my legs, she took one of the old style tablespoons (to me it looked like a huge "coal shovel") heaping with sugar, soaked in in Kerosene from her kerosene lamp, grabbed my nose to make me open wide and made me swallow every bit of !! THEY FELL OFF IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, AND HAD "NO CORE". Every time I read the name or word "BOILS" I REMEMBER!! IT LEFT A LASTING IMPRESSION... LOLOLOLO"

SUN, THEN WARM SHOWER

[YEA]  03/14/2009: Martha from El Centro, CA writes: "I read this in the Doctors Book of Home Remedies. To cure boils, sit in the sun for about one hour, preferably morning or afternoon. Then take a very warm shower. I guess the action of the warmth from the sun and the added warmth from the water will soften the skin to the extent that the boil will easily burst. The Vit D may also have something to do with it cuz you don't get the same effect from just a heating pad so go out and enjoy the sun for a spell then shower! Best of luck to you and say bye bye to that boil for me!

If you wear contacts, I suggest you take them out before the bath. Keep a towel handy to wipe your face off after."

[YEA]  01/26/2011: Aria from Port Huron, Mi replies: "I have yet to try the bottle method; however, my mother and grandmother have used this method. According to them, you wait until the boil is to a head, heat the glass bottle in boiling water, take it out, dry off all hot water, put the mouth of the bottle over the head and allow the suction to do the work. They said you could see the head get larger and larger and then.... Explosion!

It sounds extremely effective to me; however, due to the location of my boil (earlobe), I used a turmeric/evco paste which worked famously! I thought I would end up in the hospital last night because my lobe was so swollen, hard, red, and hot. I am colonized with mrsa so I was afraid it would spread too rapidly handle on my own. I cut a small raw potato plug for my earhole and wore that during the day, then I applied the turmeric/evco paste, then before bed added raw manuka honey to the mix. When I woke up, I noticed my lobe is half the size it was yesterday and its not throbbing or hot anymore. I am so thankful for this site! I have been coming here for almost a year and I will keep coming back."

I bought a a soda in a glass bottle, poured out the drink, rinsed and dried the bottle, put a small amount of H2O in a sauce pan, placed the bottle in the water, let it come to a boil, grabbed the bottle with a pot holder with the open end up, then I put the open end over the boil. I was a little suction but I let it stay until the bottle cooled. Massive Pus Was Drained! Now I'm at ease."

It is absolutely brilliant and worked wonders for me. Cut a tomato in half and heat it (microwave will do). Place it over the boil and leave it there. Hold it in place with a gauze, I used a gauze and band-aids, and kept it there until it cooled. I then placed the other half of the tomato and repeated the operation. Although it got my underwear tomatoey, the boil opened up by itself and all the pus oozed out on its own. The results are remarkable. [YEA]  01/11/2012: Karyn from Charlotte, Nc writes: "I first noticed a 'pinch' on my butt on Friday. It was hard to look at the exact spot because it was kind of between the cheeks, but each day it became more and more sore.

By Monday, it was a full-blown boil, the worst one I've ever had and having to sit on it all day at work was absolute agony. I came over to Earth Clinic for help, always my first source for home remedies.

I should have started the turmeric much earlier; I bought a large bag of it last year when I had a small outbreak of boils.

Monday night after work, I mixed a teaspoon of turmeric into warm water and drank it. That was rough; not the best method for me. Before bed, I took a second teaspoon mixed into about 1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil (after reading fat is important for the turmeric to work best). I also spread a small amount of oil onto a bandage, sprinkled turmeric over the top of it, and slept with that on the boil.

Tuesday morning, the bandage was soaked, so I knew the boil had begun to drain. It felt smaller (due to its location on my body, it is hard to look at it) but was still quite painful. I washed it thoroughly and started my Tuesday with a half teaspon of turmeric (the full teaspoon gave me brief heart palpitations) in coconut oil and headed to work. Before the day had ended, it began to drain again, this time with much blood.

Home again, I took my turmeric/coconut oil and added black pepper after reading on EC that the pepper increased the bioavailability of turmeric. I took a dose at 5:30 and again at 8:30 before bed. Also, I again slept with a poultice of coconut oil and turmeric taped over the boil.

Today is Wednesday; the drainage seems to be nearly complete and the pain is nearly gone! It's absolutely amazing; when I have had boils in the past, and have not used turmeric, it seems to take 10 or more days to fully get rid of them.

I intend to continue with my 3x per day dosing until there is no pain or swelling there at all and then I think I'll just add a half teaspoon with black pepper and coconut oil to my morning routine for maintenance.

Thank you Earth Clinic!"
