[YEA]  08/04/2006: Amiee from Eastern Passage, NS writes: "I had been wheat-free for 7 months and my gas, acid-reflux and psoriasis went away. When you are on a wheat-free diet, it can cause other problems like constipation if you do not watch your fiber intake. I am now off the wheat-free diet and all has returned. I will be going back on the wheat-free diet ASAP."

[YEA]  05/03/2006: Kathleen from Gulfport, FL writes: "Mine is not so much a remedy, but a prevention. After being on a low-fat diet for several weeks, I noticed that all my acid reflux symptoms had disappeared. I can eat any of the foods that normally triggered acid reflux as long as I keep my fat intake to no more than 10% of my calories. When I change this eating routine, the acid reflux comes back, especially at night."

[YEA]  Gurt writes: "I did research in medical journals over gerd/acid reflux since it was causing some health problems. What I found was that carbonated drinks build pressure in the stomach pushing the acid back into the throat. I drink one carbonated drink mid-morning then juice, water and decaf-tea during the remaining day. I also found that caffeine relaxes the muscle that becomes weak with gerd. It was a slow process to cut back on the caffeinated drinks and caffeine but now I am feeling so much better."

[YEA]  Sherry from Orlando, FL writes: "I'had acid reflux for 2 yrs. and when I went on the Atkins Diet, I never even expected such a sudden cure! I then went to the Atkins Online forum and did a search about acid reflux to see if others had the same experience on this diet. AMAZING! I found other people on the forum saying their acid reflux is gone too as a result of this low carb diet. I realized that the HIGH CARBS were the CAUSE of the GERD ALL ALONG!! As I type this, I know I will sleep just fine again tonight as a result of this discovery!!! I can only hope that this helps others who are suffering."

[NAY]  Nancy from Agoura Hills, CA writes: "I have never taken much ibuprofen, but I have been a rather regular user of Excedrin in the past (aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine). I don't take it anymore. My GERD started after I had been on a lo-carb diet for about 5 months. I had never had trouble before. I think the high fat/high protein diet wasn't the best thing for GERD. I went off the diet immediately, but the GERD never left (it's been two years now). Just for your information. I am not overweight and I exercise daily."

[YEA]  06/12/2007: Bouy from Winnipeg, Canada writes: "I am one of thousands that has acid reflex. I was provide a presciption from my doctor that said I would have to be on it forever. The drugs did not cure this condition, so I looked for a natural way of relieving this condition. I have tried the apple cider viniger, and it did work for me. But, I have also found that digestive enzymes have been my answer. I use a -complete- formula that helps digest all your food. I have tested them for two months with extreme success. I hope this info will help others. Good Luck and lets get natural."

[YEA]  05/16/2007: Roxanne from Ft. Lauderdale, FL writes: "Always sleep on your left side, so stomach acids don't drain into your stomach. Start taking good natural digestive enzymes to break down the food that is rotting and stuck in your small intestine area. This gets things moving and the acid reflux stops. Also get lots of fiber or take capsules of psyllium with a big glass of water before bed. Stay away from antacids that stop the acid that your body is creating to try to break down the rotting foods. Just keep it all moving away from the top end and out the bottom end. Drink plenty of water! :)"

[YEA]  05/08/2007: Israel from Austin, Texas writes: "I was diagnosed with Acid reflux two years ago at 27. I was given that (blue red)pill, but I like others realized that once i was off it, my acid reflux came back. I am not 100% sure what has caused it but have narrowed it down to the intake of soda as a youth. I am intrested to find the correlation between the extra large sized drink given out by fast food restraunts and the increased case of acid-reflux. Did the case increase upon their introduction? As for possible cure's I have tried a few...the best results came with digestive enzymes...I also tried goat milk which did alright but I am lactose intolerant...I have also read about a type of yogurt, helps that was popular in the 60's, but I don't know the name, if anyone knows what I am talking about please post the name. It has a natural way of stabilizing the digestive cultures in our system. Avoid grease, spice, and acids...especially vinegar...and eat slow...that is the biggest adjustment that has helped me...eat really, slow and smaller portions.."

[YEA]  08/26/2006: Jonathan from Memphis, TN writes: "I tried the ACV with honey and it worked some, but did not last. The pickle juice helped some, but again not lasting. I read on another website where people had success with digestive enzymes and aloe vera gel. I went to GNC and they said many customers like an enzyme formula plus Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria along with aloe vera liquid. They said that acid reflux often stems from a lack of enzyme activity. These enzymes also contain betaine hydrochloride to increase stomach acid. I was on Protonix for a while, but I didn't like the way it made me feel. I decided to stop it and try the enzymes instead. These have absolutely cured my reflux!! I take two per meal and have been able to eat whatever I want. They are easy to break open if you don't want to try and swallow the capsules. I break them open and mix them with a glass of water before I eat. Don't worry, it doesn't taste bad at all! GNC even suggested sprinkling them in yogurt, milk, or directly on your food. I also take 2 ounces of aloe vera liquid each night. I wanted to share my success so that you may have the same relief I have. I'm glad I don't have to sit up in bed at night anymore! Best wishes!"

DIGESTIVE ENZYMES, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

1 WORKED TEMPORARILY

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  07/28/2009: Nora from New York, New York writes: "After being diagnosed with acid reflux I used digestive enzymes for several months with limited success. I added acv (2T in a glass of water 3 times a day) which seemed to totally relieve the symptoms of coughing and excess acid for several months. I never get heartburn, rather I get a raspy cough and a croaky voice and acid in the back of my throat. From one day to the next, the acv stopped working and I increased the dosage (while still taking digestive enzymes) to no avail. I was recently diagnosed with bronchitis and was given anti biotics and am currently taking 150mg of ranitidine twice daily and 40 mg of omeprazole once a day which is slowly reversing the cough and excess acid and calming my system. in all of the acv cures I've encountered no one seems to differentiate between a person who produces too much acid and a person who produces too little and isn't that an important distinction? Also, can't too much acv produce its opposite effect? Most sufferers seem to produce too little acid and I believe I ended up created an internal environment that produced way too much acid and led to bronchitis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, particularly because I would like to wean myself off the drugs I'm taking. Thanks"

[YEA]  05/11/2006: Sarah from Maplewood, NJ writes: "My mom uses an egg yolk, honey and milk for me since I was little when it attacks. Egg yolk -- try to use twice a week but every day use warm milk [whole milk works better] and one teaspoon of honey for three to four days. Once I use this, I don't get the acid reflux for more than six months or so. Trust me I have tried so many things but nothing works like milk and honey. I have never try the AVC. I will try it."

FRUIT JUICE

3 YEA

[YEA]  07/17/2007: Michael from Plainfield, Illinois writes: "I was fighting Acid Reflux for over 45 Years I've tried every pill and formula out there and read every book on the market. I have one remedy that works for me. I call it the Blaster I got it out of a juicing book and it will keep the fire from starting 90% of the time. I use a Vita-Mix blender and put in 2 glasses of filtered water - 1 Banana - 1 Mango - 1/2 Papaya - 1 large slice of pinapple- 1 orange - I blend it into a drink and drink a 8 oz glass 2 times per day - the mix is enough for roughly 3 days you don't want to make it for more time it loses it's effect and there are plenty of other healthy perks along with it - I keep it refrigerated in a stainless steel thermos."

[YEA]  04/25/2008: jill from Ft Lauderdale, FL replies: "Similar to The Blaster, I find that most fruit smoothies that include a banana when made in the Vita Mix are outstanding for keeping the heartburn at bay. I used to suffer daily before I started making these awesome high fiber drinks, soups and ice creams. I use bananas, oranges, apples, carrots, and cooked sweet potatoes mostly but I will usually add whatever I have on hand. I used the following link which included a coupon code for free shipping https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/stores/4/index.aspx?COUPON=06-003085"

GERD MEDICATION SIDE EFFECTS

1 SIDE EFFECT

[SIDE EFFECTS]  07/27/2009: Micaela from Lincoln, Nebraska writes: "I take 40 MG of pantoprazole daily for GERD; and though it helps, I am wondering if it could be contributing to gout-like symptoms? Does anyone else report similar findings? The symptoms are: itching and burning sensations at the ends of my toes and arms. Sometimes a numbness in the legs. The sensations come on in the middle of the night and wake me to the point that I cannot get back to sleep. I thought that maybe too many carbs might be causing this, but now I am wondering. I am looking at a more alkaline diet to see if that might help. What do you think, could it be the meds? Thanks."

09/06/2009: Ficofico from Ny, Ny, Usa replies: "you may be experiencing polyneuropathy by lack of vit B12. the acid in the stomach is needed for the vit B12 to be absorbed and excess of carbohydrates aggravate the vit b12 deficiency because the body prioritize its use for processing the carbohydrates if there is few vit b12 and to much carbohydrates."

[NAY]  02/25/2007: Dana from Columbus, OH writes: "OK, 10 years ago Iwas diagnosed with gerd. meds didn't help. natural cures unknown to me. had surgery. called Nissen Fundo. the top of the stomach is wrapped either 180 or 360 degrees around bottom of esophagus. It took care of gerd but other major problems developed. Barely left house in 10 years. Please say NO TO GERD SURGERY.
The problem is that there is a good chance of vagus nerve being damaged. Google "nissen fundo wikipedia" and get the facts. Click on each complication. Impossible to find a surgeon to reverse. Did research on doc at cleveland clinic. He's the head of thoracic surgery and does 2-3 nissen repairs per week and did research article on why the surgery doesn't work. Not sure if i can have it reversed. Start taking hoodia tomorrow b/c i can only function if i don't eat. If remedies don't help you may also have a hiatal hernia. when you wake take a glass of water and jump 3 times. Look into other cures for hernia. praying works."

05/29/2008: Gina from Austin, Texas replies: "Hi, I am curious as to how you are doing at the present time and if you have found relief after the GERD Surgery. Also, what complications have you had that has kept you home bound. I too had that surgery and have had various ailments. I would appreciate any other info. Thanks & God Bless You, Gina"

GINGER

4 YEA

[YEA]  09/23/2009: Darijan from Zagreb, Hr, Croatia writes: "I would like to add Yes for GINGER.

I suffered from Acid reflux for nine months, tried almost everything, was on NEXIUM too, I did not have chest pain but throat pain, and ginger tea was the most spectacular discovery! Now I drink several glasses of ginger tea daily and the pain is now much much weaker. Nothing I tried before ever made so much difference.

Therefore, strongly recommend ginger.

I buy a fresh one, peel it off, cut it in small pieces and just spill hot water over it, just like I would do with any other tea.

Anyway, that worked out for me. Pain is not completely gone yet (I drink it for three days only) but life became much more bearable since I started.

Good luck to all of you!"
