Colloidal Gold Health Benefits.

The first time I learned about colloidal gold was in the spring of 1996, and an entertaining meeting with the manufacturer followed shortly thereafter.

I discovered an intriguing line of colloidal products at a holistic pet store in the San Fernando Valley, California while buying supplements for my dog. It was one of the only brands of colloidal gold, silver, and platinum on the market in those days.

After speaking to the pet store owner about the benefits of colloidal products, I ended up buying a large bottle of silver and gold, eager to test them on my dog, an aging malamute with arthritis, and myself. It was a human product line that was completely safe for pets too.

I don't recall if the colloidal silver had much effect on either my dog or me back then, but the colloidal gold became an instant hit because it put me in an incredibly good and positive mood.

I was so impressed with the effects of the gold, I called the number on the bottle one day after work to find out more. A man answered and told me he was the sole manufacturer of the colloidal product line. He was a fascinating guy, very knowledgeable about colloidal products and holistic health. He also lived nearby in Orange County.

We talked for a while and, towards the end of the conversation, he invited me to drive down to visit his colloidal "operation." It sounded interesting, so a week later, I drove to OC with a good friend to learn how colloidal gold and colloidal silver were made.

We arrived at a small house in Orange County, and a man in his mid-50s opened the door and led us inside to his kitchen, where he made all the colloidal products on his countertop. He gave us a quick demonstration and then proudly showed us his homemade Tesla coil in the living room, which he fired up for all of 30 seconds, long enough to impress us but not long enough to cause the arrival of black helicopters in the area to investigate the massive surge in power, as he put it.

And that was my first experience in colloidal alchemy. I forgot about colloidal gold at some point when I moved too far away to buy it at the pet store, started Earth Clinic in 1999, and focused on apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper instead.

Twenty years later, colloidal silver became a prevalent remedy on Earth Clinic, and my attention again returned to colloidal alchemy.

Now many people know about the health benefits of colloidal silver, but not much is known about colloidal gold. This article, therefore, is to tell you as much as possible about colloidal gold, as I believe it can be a beneficial mineral supplement, especially in the mental health arena.

What is Colloidal Gold?

Colloidal gold is a colloidal suspension of nanoparticles of gold in liquid. Studies have shown that colloidal gold can help reduce rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and enhance brain function. It is also commonly used for anxiety and depression as it has an incredibly relaxing effect on the nervous system, especially when taken on an empty stomach.

Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles

Colloidal gold uses a technology called nanotechnology, where almost all colloidal particles fall in the range of diameter from 1-to 1000nanometers. They can be in any state, whether liquid, gas, or solid. Colloidal gold sold as a mineral supplement is typically a suspension of gold nanoparticles in distilled alkaline water.

These particles range within a 1-100 nanometer scale for a colloidal gold solution, known as gold nanoparticles.

[1 nanometer is equivalent to 0.000000001 meters.]

These tiny gold particles from the colloid penetrate through the cell membranes and relieve many clinical issues.

Colloidal gold can be safely used as a daily supplement, both internally as well as externally. It is also safe for pets. It lasts approximately 24 hours in the body.

What is the Color of Colloidal Gold?

Color of True Colloidal Gold

The color of colloidal gold can vary from transparent yellow to transparent red/pink, depending on the concentration and size of the particles.

Typically colloidal gold in the ruby red range, the most minute nanoparticle size, is manufactured by most holistic health companies as it is 100% bio-accessible for the most significant viability.

Colloidal Gold Health Benefits

Colloidal gold has been found to have the following benefits:

  • Anti-Inflammatory.
  • Anti-Aging.
  • Promotes cellular rejuvenation.
  • Promotes a calm and relaxed mental state.
  • Mood enhancer.
  • Increases cognitive function.
  • Improves mental, physical, and energy performance.
  • Reduces stress.
  • Induces a feeling of relaxation and security.
  • Used to treat addiction.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Alleviates rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.
  • Increases hand-eye coordination (and thus popular with tennis players).
  • Helps inflammatory skin conditions like rashes, eczema, blisters, and fungal infections.
  • Improves the transmission of nerve impulses.
  • Improves the absorption of certain elements like magnesium, phosphorus, B vitamins, vitamin D, Vitamin A, and vitamin E.

The History of Colloidal Gold

During the Middle Ages, soluble gold, a solution containing gold salt, had a reputation for its curative property for various diseases.

In 1618, Francis Anthony, a philosopher and member of the medical profession published a book called Panacea Aurea, sive tractatus duo de ipsius Auro Potabili 2, which introduced information on the formulation of colloidal gold and its many medical uses.

Not long after that, in 1656, Nicholas Culpepper, an English botanist, published his book called Treatise of Aurum Potabile, which was solely about the medical uses of colloidal gold.

In 1857, scientist Michael Faraday then experimented with gold leaf and concocted a ruby red solution he named "activated gold" due to its impressive properties of light and matter.

Since then, colloidal gold and various other colloidal systems like colloidal silver have long been widely used as labels for antigens in biological electron microscopy. A label is a molecule that aids in indentifying an antigen-antibody complex.

Gold nanoparticles are a subject of research because they have unique optical properties and rare electron and molecular recognition properties that researchers believe have a massive potential in biomedicine and nanotechnology. Colloidal gold particles can be attracted to biological probes like antibodies, receptors, lectins, superantigens, glycans, and nucleic acids. 3

Supports Burn and Wound Healing

Colloidal gold can promote cellular regeneration, which aids in the healing of wounds, burns, and deeper tissue damage. It has also been shown to have antibacterial properties, decreasing the risk of infection.

Topical usage of CG may also help rashes and skin conditions such as eczema and mild forms of psoriasis.

Enhances Cognitive Health and Memory

The human body naturally produces trace amounts of gold -- approximately 0.2 mg in the average adult. This naturally occurring gold has been shown to help transmit electrical signals within the body, helping memory and focus.

Heals the Skin

Colloidal gold is used internally and externally for skin cell initiation and restoration. Due to its soothing and rejuvenating properties, colloidal gold is often found in many skincare ingredients.

CG is known for its capacity to mend micro-damage for conditions like skin ulcers, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation (melasma). It is also said to help acne-scarred skin.

Since colloidal gold can recover cells and restore elasticity to the skin, it is also used topically to treat skin conditions like eczema, wounds, fungal infections, rashes, and more.

Glowing Skin

Ruby red colloidal gold is a light-reflecting color known for its ability to light up the skin, causing it to look more radiant. You can put colloidal gold in a small spray bottle and spritz it generously on clean skin before applying moisturizer or makeup for a luminous glow effect.

Colloidal Gold Dosage

Dosages vary widely across studies and individual preferences. You should follow the dosage recommendation on the label. Start with a small amount the first day or two and work your way up to the recommended dosage.

I take 1-2 tablespoons of 20 ppm colloidal gold daily on an empty stomach with excellent results. My 16-year-old dog, 55 pounds, gets 1 tablespoon per day. Each tablespoon of colloidal gold is 300mcg, much smaller than the 30mg quoted in the studies above. However, it works for me and is the recommended dosage on most colloidal gold manufacturer labels.

How Long Does It Take to Feel Effects of Colloidal Gold?

It takes about one week to feel the effects of the colloidal gold.

Are There Any Side Effects of Colloidal Gold

There are very few side effects associated with colloidal gold at 20-40 ppm (parts per million) in the ruby red range.

At first, you may feel sleepy and light-headed when you take colloidal gold, but this feeling generally disappears within the first few days.

People with a skin allergy to gold should not consume colloidal gold.

Colloidal Gold and Cognitive Function

One colloidal gold study using human participants showed a 20% increase in IQ scores after four weeks on 30mg colloidal gold per day.

Colloidal Gold for Rheumatoid Arthritis

In 1997, researchers found that colloidal gold effects on rheumatoid arthritis were fast and dramatic, with a significant reduction in swelling of the joints and tenderness after only one week on colloidal gold. 4

Colloidal Gold for Addiction

Colloidal gold has been used to treat alcoholism since the 19th Century. Today it is used to treat alcohol, cigarette, and narcotics addiction.

Shelf-Life of Colloidal Gold

Colloidal gold has a limited shelf life of approximately six months. It should be kept in the fridge and consumed within six months after opening for optimal results.

Make sure your colloidal gold always has a clear, ruby red color to it. If not, discard the solution.

What Does Colloidal Gold Taste Like?

Colloidal gold has little to no taste, like water!

Where to Buy Colloidal Gold

Earth Clinic has recently added small-batch colloidal gold in 8 oz and 16 oz bottles to our colloidal product line. Our colloidal gold is made in-house and pressure-canned at high temperatures to ensure the longest possible shelf-life.

Colloidal Gold is supposed to primarily be used for mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc). In fact, I've never heard it used in place of silver at all. It's completely different.

Hi Bonnie,

No, and here is a great post on the subject from https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_colloidal_gold_the_same_as_monoatomic_gold:

"The obvious answer is that they are very different. In a colloid, there is no requirement that the dispersed gold be in the form of isolated atoms. Colloidal gold is in the form of nanoparticles, each having many atoms of gold (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloidal_gold). Note that gold is naturally monoatomic, and does not bind to itself chemically, unlike oxygen, which binds in pairs to achieve energetic stability."

I've been taking 1-2 tablespoons of 20 PPM Colloidal Gold up to twice a day for the past two months. So has my 16 year old dog with cancer (who is doing incredibly well, but that's for another post). I have found it is most effective as a mood elevator. I am in an incredibly good mood all day long and things that might normally irritate me for a while hardly irritate me at all.

I have not, on the other hand, noticed any effect on my stiff and somewhat arthritic joints in some of my fingers, but then colloidal gold is noted for rheumatoid arthritis, which I don't have. I am also not taking the 30 mg dose that was tested in the study for RA, but far, far less.

I have now discovered that colloidal gold has even more potent mood-elevating results when taken internally with DMSO, so this is now my new daily recipe. I put raw honey in it to mitigate the clam/garlic breath from the DMSO (really does help).

Here is my recipe:

  • In a mug, add 1/4 cup of warm filtered water -- needs to be warm enough to dissolve the honey, but not too hot.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and stir until dissolved.
  • 1 tablespoon of 99.999 Pharmaceutical Grade DMSO.
  • 1-2 tablespoons of Colloidal Gold.

Taken on an empty stomach in the afternoon. Colloidal Gold can be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, but I haven't experimented with DMSO, so I am doing this combo in the afternoon instead.

Important Note! If this is your first time taking DMSO internally, start with a much smaller amount and work your way up. I had never taken DMSO internally before and was quite nervous about it and started with one drop a couple of weeks ago! Now 1 tablespoon down the hatch with no problems.

I hope others who take DMSO internally will try a DMSO/Gold combination and report back.

Yeah! Got my colloidal gold!

No, I STILL can't leap tall buildings in a single bound but I have already had a strange experience.

I hadn't eaten lunch yet, so I put a couple of drops under the tongue. A few minutes later, as with the silver, I got super sleepy. Not groggy, like with the sedative-like effect, just sleepy.

I adjusted the curtains in case it was dark when I woke up from my "nap", checked the clock - 3:47 - and laid down.

I awoke with a bit of a start, trying to remember what I'd been thinking or dreaming about as it was a really good design idea. I wasn't sure which had happened - I.e. whether I'd been thinking or dreaming. But, I couldn't remember the idea and, even though I was extremely comfortable, I was also fully awake so I got up, went to look at the clock, thinking I'd slept a couple hours but it SAID 3:49. TWO minutes.

When I had the covid, I'd gone to bed and slept 3 days so I checked the day and date, just to be sure and, sure enough, though it didn't seem possible, I'd only been in bed 2 minutes.

It was the darnedest thing. Otherwise, I'm just fully awake, "refreshed" and that's about it. I put a couple of drops in my palm and sprayed in some silver and splatted it on my face which feels super soft, just a minute or so later so...that's interesting...

Anyway, I'm going to do a full rinse, swish and gargle in the morning and see what happens.

Hi Norma,

Great question! Each bottle is bubble-wrapped and placed inside a thick cardboard box. Freezing has only been an issue when people left it outside in their mailbox too long and the bottle not only froze but broke too. Happened to just two so far since December - 1 in Chicago and 1 in Canada... both with temps in the 10-20F range. It was left outside too long.

You can sign up for text and/or email for a delivery notification with USPS or UPS after the label is in the system. Shopify (which we use for e-commerce) also sends out an email once it's been delivered, so that's been helpful as well.
