Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles: Promoting Health and Wellness

In 1996, while purchasing supplements for my dog at a holistic pet store in San Fernando Valley, California, I stumbled upon an intriguing line of colloidal products that included gold, silver, and platinum. After learning about the benefits of these products from the store owner, I purchased a large bottle of silver and gold to try on myself and my aging malamute with arthritis. To my surprise, the colloidal gold had an instant positive effect on my mood.

Curious to learn more about this product, I called the number on the bottle and spoke with the sole manufacturer of the colloidal product line. He was an interesting and knowledgeable person with a passion for holistic health and colloidal products. He invited me to visit his "colloidal operation" in Orange County, where he demonstrated how colloidal gold and silver were made and showed us his homemade Tesla coil.

Though I eventually forgot about colloidal gold, I rediscovered its potential health benefits twenty years later when colloidal silver became a prevalent remedy on Earth Clinic. Today, many people know about the health benefits of colloidal silver, but little is known about colloidal gold. I am sharing my knowledge and belief in colloidal gold as a valuable mineral supplement, particularly for mental health, which is why I have written this article.

What is Colloidal Gold?

Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles

Colloidal gold is a liquid suspension of tiny particles of gold known as gold nanoparticles. Research has shown that colloidal gold has potential benefits in reducing symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, improving brain function, and relaxing the nervous system. Studies have shown that colloidal gold can help reduce rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and enhance brain function. It is also commonly used for anxiety and depression as it has an incredibly relaxing effect on the nervous system, especially when taken on an empty stomach.

Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles

Colloidal gold is based on nanotechnology that involves particles ranging from 1 to 1000 nanometers in diameter, which can be in a solid, liquid, or gas state. The typical colloidal gold sold as a mineral supplement is a suspension of gold nanoparticles in distilled alkaline water.

The tiny gold particles in the colloid can penetrate cell membranes and relieve various clinical issues. Colloidal gold is safe for daily use, both internally and externally, and it is also safe for pets.

Initially, the effects of colloidal gold typically last for around 24 hours in the body. However, these effects may gradually accumulate over time and become more pronounced.

Note: 1 nanometer is equivalent to 0.000000001 meters.

What is the Color of Colloidal Gold?

The color of colloidal gold can range from transparent yellow to transparent red or pink, depending on the size and concentration of the particles.

Most holistic health companies manufacture colloidal gold in the ruby red range with the smallest nanoparticle size as it is 100% bio-accessible, ensuring maximum viability.

Colloidal Gold Health Benefits

Colloidal gold has been researched and found to provide the following health benefits:

  • Anti-Inflammatory.
  • Anti-Aging.
  • Promotes cellular rejuvenation.
  • Promotes a calm and relaxed mental state.
  • Mood enhancer.
  • Increases cognitive function.
  • Improves mental, physical, and energy performance.
  • Reduces stress.
  • Induces a feeling of relaxation and security.
  • Used to treat addiction.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Alleviates rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.
  • Increases hand-eye coordination (and thus popular with tennis players).
  • Helps inflammatory skin conditions like rashes, eczema, blisters, and fungal infections.
  • Improves the transmission of nerve impulses.
  • Improves the absorption of certain elements like magnesium, phosphorus, B vitamins, D, A, and E.

The History of Colloidal Gold

Colloidal gold has a long history of use in various fields. During the Middle Ages, soluble gold, a solution containing gold salt, was believed to have curative properties for various diseases. In the 17th century, Francis Anthony, a philosopher and member of the medical profession, published a book called Panacea Aurea, sive tractatus duo de ipsius Auro Potabili 2, which contained information on the formulation of colloidal gold and its various medical uses. Shortly after, in 1656, Nicholas Culpepper, an English botanist, published a book called Treatise of Aurum Potabile, which focused solely on the medical uses of colloidal gold.

In the late 1800s, physicians in Europe and the US used colloidal gold to treat alcoholism, tuberculosis, and syphilis. In the early 1900s, German researchers discovered that gold compounds could inhibit the growth of bacteria, leading to the development of gold-based drugs for treating tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis. During the 20th century, colloidal gold was also used in dentistry for filling cavities and restoring damaged teeth. It was preferred over other materials due to its durability, compatibility with oral tissues, and aesthetic properties.

In 1857, scientist Michael Faraday experimented with gold leaf and created a ruby red solution he named "activated gold" due to its impressive properties of light and matter. Since then, colloidal gold and other colloidal systems like colloidal silver have been widely used as labels for antigens in biological electron microscopy. Labels are molecules that help identify an antigen-antibody complex.

Today, colloidal gold is used in various applications such as electronics, nanotechnology, and imaging. It is also gaining popularity as a natural health supplement due to its potential therapeutic benefits. Gold nanoparticles have unique optical properties and rare electron and molecular recognition properties that researchers believe have massive potential in biomedicine and nanotechnology. Ongoing research is investigating potential applications of gold nanoparticles in areas such as cancer treatment and drug delivery.

How to Use Colloidal Gold

The recommended dosage of colloidal gold can vary widely depending on individual preferences and the specific study being conducted. It is best to follow the dosage instructions provided on the product label. It is generally advised to start with a small amount for the first day or two and gradually increase to the recommended dosage.

For example, I take 1-2 tablespoons of 20 ppm colloidal gold daily on an empty stomach and have experienced excellent results. My 16-year-old dog, who weighed 55 pounds, received one tablespoon daily in his meal. It is important to note that each tablespoon of colloidal gold contains 300mcg, much smaller than the 30mg quoted in some studies. However, this dosage works well for me and is in line with the recommended dosage on most colloidal gold manufacturer labels.

Colloidal gold is virtually tasteless and is often described as having no discernible taste or being similar to water. It can be safely consumed both internally and externally, and it is also safe for pets.

Side Effects of Colloidal Gold

Colloidal gold at 20-40 ppm in the ruby red range is associated with few side effects. However, some people may experience sleepiness and lightheadedness when first taking colloidal gold, though this feeling typically subsides within the first few days.

It is important to note that individuals with a skin allergy to gold should avoid consuming colloidal gold.

Supports Burn and Wound Healing

Colloidal gold has been found to promote cellular regeneration, which can aid in healing wounds, burns, and deeper tissue damage. It also exhibits antibacterial properties that reduce the risk of infection.

Additionally, topical application of colloidal gold may be beneficial for treating skin conditions such as rashes, eczema, and mild forms of psoriasis.

Enhances Cognitive Health and Memory

The human body naturally produces trace amounts of gold -- approximately 0.2 mg in the average adult. This naturally occurring gold has been shown to help transmit electrical signals within the body, helping memory and focus.

One small colloidal gold study using human participants showed a 20% increase in IQ scores after four weeks on 30mg colloidal gold per day.

Heals the Skin

Colloidal gold is used internally and externally to initiate and restore skin cells. It is a common ingredient in many skincare products due to its soothing and rejuvenating properties. Colloidal gold is known to aid in the healing of various skin conditions such as skin ulcers, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation (melasma) and may also help with acne scars.

When applied topically, colloidal gold can recover cells and restore elasticity to the skin. It is commonly used to treat various skin conditions such as eczema, wounds, fungal infections, rashes, and more.

Creates Glowing Skin

The ruby red color of colloidal gold has light-reflecting properties that can give the skin a radiant appearance. To achieve this effect, colloidal gold can be placed in a small spray bottle and generously spritzed onto clean skin before applying moisturizer or makeup. This application method creates a luminous glow effect on the skin.

Shelf-Life of Colloidal Gold

Colloidal gold has a shelf-life of approximately six months and should be stored in the refrigerator. It should be consumed within six months after opening to ensure optimal results.

It is important to check that your colloidal gold always has a clear, ruby-red color. If the solution appears cloudy or discolored, it should be discarded.

What Does Colloidal Gold Taste Like?

Since colloidal gold is virtually tasteless, it is generally easy to consume and is often described as having no discernible taste or being similar to water.

How Long Does It Take To Experience The Effects Of Colloidal Gold?

It takes about one week to feel the effects of the colloidal gold.

Colloidal Gold for Rheumatoid Arthritis

A study conducted in 1997 showed that the effects of colloidal gold on rheumatoid arthritis were both rapid and substantial. Participants experienced a significant reduction in joint swelling and tenderness after only one week of colloidal gold use. 4

Colloidal Gold for Addiction

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, colloidal gold was a popular remedy for treating alcoholism. It was believed that colloidal gold helped curb alcohol cravings and lessen the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support these claims, and the use of colloidal gold as a treatment for alcoholism is not widely recognized by modern medical professionals. Today, other evidence-based treatments are generally preferred for alcohol addiction.

Colloidal Gold is supposed to primarily be used for mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc). In fact, I've never heard it used in place of silver at all. It's completely different.

You are right on, Katzie. They are both exceptional gifts to our health, but different, though the method here suggests a few drops of silver when making gold, as helps with the creation of the gold colloidal, this from the machine and system that I used here in German speaking countries, where they are very strict on these matters about truth in advertising and ingredients. Our gold is not red, this is the first time I have heard of such, though gold colloidal is extensively used here. One nice side effect was that I found my hair growing in twice as thick (ie many more strands) which, as I have baby fine hair, was a great side effect!

Hi Bonnie,

No, and here is a great post on the subject from https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_colloidal_gold_the_same_as_monoatomic_gold:

"The obvious answer is that they are very different. In a colloid, there is no requirement that the dispersed gold be in the form of isolated atoms. Colloidal gold is in the form of nanoparticles, each having many atoms of gold (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloidal_gold). Note that gold is naturally monoatomic, and does not bind to itself chemically, unlike oxygen, which binds in pairs to achieve energetic stability."

I've been taking 1-2 tablespoons of 20 PPM Colloidal Gold up to twice a day for the past two months. So has my 16 year old dog with cancer (who is doing incredibly well, but that's for another post). I have found it is most effective as a mood elevator. I am in an incredibly good mood all day long and things that might normally irritate me for a while hardly irritate me at all.

I have not, on the other hand, noticed any effect on my stiff and somewhat arthritic joints in some of my fingers, but then colloidal gold is noted for rheumatoid arthritis, which I don't have. I am also not taking the 30 mg dose that was tested in the study for RA, but far, far less.

I have now discovered that colloidal gold has even more potent mood-elevating results when taken internally with DMSO, so this is now my new daily recipe. I put raw honey in it to mitigate the clam/garlic breath from the DMSO (really does help).

Here is my recipe:

  • In a mug, add 1/4 cup of warm filtered water -- needs to be warm enough to dissolve the honey, but not too hot.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and stir until dissolved.
  • 1 tablespoon of 99.999 Pharmaceutical Grade DMSO.
  • 1-2 tablespoons of Colloidal Gold.

Taken on an empty stomach in the afternoon. Colloidal Gold can be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, but I haven't experimented with DMSO, so I am doing this combo in the afternoon instead.

Important Note! If this is your first time taking DMSO internally, start with a much smaller amount and work your way up. I had never taken DMSO internally before and was quite nervous about it and started with one drop a couple of weeks ago! Now 1 tablespoon down the hatch with no problems.

I hope others who take DMSO internally will try a DMSO/Gold combination and report back.

Yeah! Got my colloidal gold!

No, I STILL can't leap tall buildings in a single bound but I have already had a strange experience.

I hadn't eaten lunch yet, so I put a couple of drops under the tongue. A few minutes later, as with the silver, I got super sleepy. Not groggy, like with the sedative-like effect, just sleepy.

I adjusted the curtains in case it was dark when I woke up from my "nap", checked the clock - 3:47 - and laid down.

I awoke with a bit of a start, trying to remember what I'd been thinking or dreaming about as it was a really good design idea. I wasn't sure which had happened - I.e. whether I'd been thinking or dreaming. But, I couldn't remember the idea and, even though I was extremely comfortable, I was also fully awake so I got up, went to look at the clock, thinking I'd slept a couple hours but it SAID 3:49. TWO minutes.

When I had the covid, I'd gone to bed and slept 3 days so I checked the day and date, just to be sure and, sure enough, though it didn't seem possible, I'd only been in bed 2 minutes.

It was the darnedest thing. Otherwise, I'm just fully awake, "refreshed" and that's about it. I put a couple of drops in my palm and sprayed in some silver and splatted it on my face which feels super soft, just a minute or so later so...that's interesting...

Anyway, I'm going to do a full rinse, swish and gargle in the morning and see what happens.

I take one to one & a half tablespoons of colloidal gold every other day. The only reason I take it every other day & not daily is bc it seems to stay with me & I seem to still feel the effects of the gold. I also started feeling a little bit of an upset tummy if taken daily so I've found it works best if I consume every other day. I do find that my brain function & my energy levels have increased, which I am extremely happy for that. I also noticed that I feel less depressed now after I've been taking it for 4-5 weeks. I am super happy that I found out about this stuff. I am one month away from my 49th birthday & honestly I no longer feel like I am only a year away from being 50 years old, I feel more like I am 50 years young. Thanks for reading my experience.

I've appreciated Earth Clinic for many years, as I have little faith in doctors. I just received colloidal gold and I'm very excited about it. What is the nanometer size of the gold?

EC: Thanks for ordering from us.

Our 20 ppm and 40 ppm colloidal gold is 10-20 nanometers.

Do you have the lab capability to test for nanoparticle size or do you send samples out to an outside lab?

EC: Hi Richard,

No, we would need what's called a scanning electron microscope to measure a nanoparticle, about a $200,000 piece of lab equipment. We would LOVE to own one but need to sell a tad bit more to afford it.

Our ruby red colloidal gold average diameter in nanometers is based on lab reports who make colloidal gold by chemical reduction, 10 to 20 nanometers. Per our colloidal gold consultant, the founder of the colloidal gold/colloidal silver forum (and where our CG and CS recipes come from) it is an effective size, and that chemical reduction produces a smaller size nanometer than electrolysis.

Making Colloidal Gold Is easy... Put solid gold jewelry without stones with 2 cups of water. Boil water, until the volume is reduced to half. Take 1 tsp. of the resulting solution 2-3 times a day. After 2 weeks "gold" water strengthens the heart muscle, and improves memory. ~ German Folk Remedy

Be sure it's pure 100% gold. Most gold jewelry today has other metals used with it to make the jewelry stronger or less costly. Those other metals can be toxic.

Hi Norma,

Great question! Each bottle is bubble-wrapped and placed inside a thick cardboard box. Freezing has only been an issue when people left it outside in their mailbox too long and the bottle not only froze but broke too. Happened to just two so far since December - 1 in Chicago and 1 in Canada... both with temps in the 10-20F range. It was left outside too long.

You can sign up for text and/or email for a delivery notification with USPS or UPS after the label is in the system. Shopify (which we use for e-commerce) also sends out an email once it's been delivered, so that's been helpful as well.

Where to Buy: Australia

Hi, I have just started using colloidal gold albeit another brand and a few days after starting using it I developed chronic diarrhoea. I am not sure if it is caused by the colloidal gold but was wondering if it is a possible side affect as it still hasn't ceased. Also I would really like to purchase your brand but it is very expensive here in Australia ($153AUD) thats with $45 shipping. Is there somewhere else I can purchase it that a bit cheaper?
