Because each person is different, there may not be a "perfect" diabetes diet. You will need to work on improving your diet and watching your sugar levels to see how your own body handles different foods. For example, honey and blackstrap molasses are healthy sweeteners that seem to benefit some diabetics. Yet, other diabetics cannot tolerate them.
To begin with, diabetics need to reduce sugar and simple carbohydrate intake. If you consume a lot of sugar and carbs, you will need to dramatically reduce the sugar intake. Artificial sweeteners are not a good substitute for sugar as they bring a whole host of health issues with them. Switch to whole grain foods like brown rice, quinoa, and oatmeal.
