Gentian Violet
Posted by Charlotte (Woodbridge, Va) on 09/05/2013

My mother who lived between 1916 and 1999 was a young country girl from WV. Her father had died two weeks before she was born - thus she had never seen her father. This was to have given her the blessing of being able to cure thrush in babies by blowing in their mouth three times. Sounds hokey in this day and age. However, when I was a child I witnessed the many people who came with their babies who had swollen purple mouths from the gentian violet. And one woman who had 12 children had been there for every child. This was in the days before antibiotics and now you never hear of this. Just thought I would share.

Milk of Magnesia

I have to say that I am amazed. I have had oral thrush for weeks and even with the Nystatin prescribed by my dentist, it wasn't getting any better - in fact getting worse. I read this post (I am at the beach and I was so ticked off that I was having trouble eating anything) and decided to try the Milk of Magnesia. OMG - it really works!!! It has taken 2-3 days of doing it for 3 min about 4-5 times a day but it is almost gone!!!! Thanks!

Iodine

Thrush: Low iodine in the body can cause yeast. I have hypothyroidism and didn't know that the thyroid regulates iodine in the body. I started eating dulse and kelp and used vinegar/water mix on vagina before I finally had the bloodwork done and it helped alot as the burning was untolerable, along with drinking apple cider vinegar, 2 tbls per cup of water with small pinch of baking soda and 2 tbls lemon. Also took good probiotics.

Milk of Magnesia

I developed horrible oral thrush after 5 weeks on antibiotics for a chronic Staph aureus sinus infection of 34 years. I've had so many antibiotics over the years for this infection that my systemic Candida was now on overload. My heart rate was escalating and I felt like the thrush was taking over and I would probably die if it wasn't eliminated. The immediate source seemed to be Candida in my sinuses which was flowing down the back of my throat.

I was given Nystatin Oral Suspension in the ER but it has a ton of sugar and made me gag. I decided it was irrational to treat Candida with sugar so I had to look for something else. I would have called my doctor for an Rx of plain Nystatin powder to use as a mouthwash, but it was Memorial weekend.

Desperate, I read the testimonies on EC and decided to try Milk of Magnesia. I started with 2 tablespoons undiluted MoM and swished it in my mouth for a few minutes. I was amazed and overjoyed when the fungus began peeling off right away. I did this for two days but increased the time and diluted the MoM a bit. By evening of the 2nd day there was no more white mold bonded to my tongue or gums.

However, the night of the 1st day I realized I needed to attack the immediate source or the thrush would return. So I took the syringe that came with the Nystatin suspension, partially filled it with diluted MoM and shot it up my sinues. Then tilted my head backward and forward and upside down so it would move around. It did burn but was not unbearable. I then went to bed and the next morning felt much better. I did the same thing on night #2 and day #3 felt even better.

I realize I now need to destroy the Candida in my sinuses or I'll have another outbreak of thrush. Has anyone been able to totally eliminate Candida in the sinuses with MoM? If so, what is the procedure? I am also starting in earnest an anti-Candida program for my whole system which will take several months, but it's the only way to deal the problem.

Thanks so much for your testimonies and for this website. They have been an enormous blessing!

Coconut Oil

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Coconut oil is an incredible remedy to cure thrush. BUT you have to use it in the wrong way. If you take too much, it can exacerbate your symptoms. Through much trial and error, I have learned the importance of GOING SLOW!! When I took a tablespoon, and even a teaspoon of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, my thrush got so bad I could barely swallow - my mouth got so incredibly dry. Coconut oil is SUCH a potent detoxifier/antifungal - if you already are having a problem with yeast, you must go slow! I started taking just 1/8 of a teaspoon of coconut oil for about a week (even that tiny amount initially caused detox reactions in me) and then all of a sudden the thrush that the coconut oil had in the past cleared right up!! GO SLOW AND START WITH TINY AMOUNTS WHEN IT COMES TO USING COCONUT OIL AS AN ANTIFUNGAL! Good luck!

Tea Tree Oil
Posted by Louise (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) on 12/15/2012

Tea tree oil was a godsend for me in treating a bad case of oral thrush I had after taking antibiotics for strep throat. My thrush was so bad that I had a sore throat for weeks, large bumps at the back of my tongue (as well as a thick white coating) and I had even begun to have chest pain and difficulty swallowing (I can only think that the thrush must have traveled down my esophagus, as I read this can happen).

The doctor prescribed liquid Nystatin and after 10 days it had helped with the chest pain and difficulty swallowing (the instructions were to swish and then swallow the Nystatin liquid) but I still had a sore throat that was not going away. My mum came across the idea of gargling with tea tree oil so I tried 5 drops tea tree in about a 1/4 cup of water, gargled a few minutes and swished around my mouth, then spit and did not rinse my mouth. Within hours my sore throat was so much better and within a couple days of doing the gargle and swishing in my mouth twice a day, all traces of the thrush were gone! I also had to cut out all sugar while doing this as each time I ate sugar it seemed to make the symptoms start to return. I hope this will help anyone suffering as I was.

Probiotics

WORKED TEMPORARILY

After taking antibiotics I had a stubborn white coating on my tongue. I followed the advise of someone else who had posted on earthclinic and cut open a probiotic. I put less than half of the contents in a spoon of water and swished and spit the mixture out. By the next morning, the white coating was just about gone! However, as soon as I stopped, the coating came back.

In about five days I will be taking a prescribed oral yeast medication (for after the antibiotics) and am taking a probiotic twice daily and eating a cup of plain, organic greek yogurt (with the bacteria listed in the ingredients) a day. Hopefully, this will permanently eliminate the problem. Since I have been taking probiotics, I have noticed that my gums rarely bleed after brushing/flossing anymore.

I may try oil pulling with sunflower oil here after the antibiotics and yeast medication, but I do not buy the whole "detox" or "herx effect" claims after doing much research. I would use it simply for teeth whitening and to eliminate bacteria in the mouth. If you are suspicious of "big pharma" medication, then you should also be suspicious of detoxes and cleanses (they are all profit industries). Personally, if anything makes me feel like crap, then I am going to stop doing it. Listen to your body above all. (with antibiotic symptoms, I eat very well, take probiotics, and drink lots of water, and I barely have symptoms, therefore feeling like crap is more a result of an unhealthy lifestyle when my body has less of an ability to deal with unhealthy food/habits than it would off of the antibiotics).

Himalayan Pink Salt

Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of HIMALAYAN PINK SALT 1 or more times a day under the tongue for thrush/white coated painful tongue/dry mouth. You should see a BIG difference in 1-2 days. Also, it may be helpful to take a rest from all other supplements (except acidophilus) for at least a few days while trying the salt treatment.

Thanks for posting this. I always use natural/home remedies for myself (i.e. An adult) when possible, but have trouble finding them for our children (5mo & 1.5yrs). Our 5 mo old daughter has already had thrush 3 times and I just noticed it again this morning. Giving the BSW a try! Will post a follow up with results.

After coming down with thrush from treatment for pnuemonia, my Dr prescribed Nystatin. 8 Days later, it was still holding on and getting worse. I took the advice here and gargled with Milk of Magnesia... Full strength, no diluting for about 3 minutes... The effect was instant. It pulled all the yeast from my tongue, gums and even lips with the first treatment and instantly my mouth was soothed. I've done 3 treatments and brushed with baking soda and I feel so much better.

Yogurt
Posted by Immils (Kentucky, Usa) on 12/18/2011

The reason the yogurt works is because it would be a type of probiotic for the baby. I have been studying natural medicine for approx 12 years now and have treated thrush successfully in babies and diabetic adults. To treat thrush which is a fungal infection called Candidiasis (Yeast for short), I give a strong probiotic and Pau D'Arco. This treatment will cure any yeast infection whether of the mouth or elsewhere. The physiology behind this is simple, the natural flora of the body is depleted and it can't keep the "bad bacteria" at bay so it begins to grow out of control and spread to other parts of the body creating what we see as Thrush or Yeast infections.

Pau D'Arco has a miraculous ability to choose not to hurt the "good" natural flora in the body but to help it grow and kill the "bad" bacteria in the body. The probiotic builds the "good" bacteria of the body up to sufficient numbers to keep the "bad bacteria from affecting us. The "bad" bacteria is always in our body but we have to be stronger and outnumber it. Once the symptoms of the candidiasis goes away then you can stop taking the Pau D'Arco and just take the probiotic for maintenance. Both come in forms that can be given to babies and neither are harmful in any way to the body from infant to adult. Hope this helps and I probably give more information than needed, all my friends and family tell me I do anyway. :)

Baking Soda
Posted by Ruby (Gloucester, Ma) on 11/01/2011

Baking soda is excellent. I have what may be thrush and I'm concerned because I've read that healthy adults normally do not get thrush. As far as mold going through your system. I've read that only Borax tablets (ingestible) can rid the body of mold. Also I would do an anti-parasitic and toxic cleanse for a month. I do the colonix (Dr Natura) cleanse every year on my birthday, sometimes twice a year to maintain my health. You may want to do 3 months.

Coconut Oil

While I was nursing my baby we both got thrush. It was very painful to nurse. I started just pumping and bottle feeding. A friend of mine said thrush is a fungus and to try extra virgin coconut oil. I put it on as a topical on my affected area. And after a few minutes I would nurse. Not only did the oil add more relief than the lanolin during the actual nursing, but within days the thrush was gone. I continued to use it for my mosturizer and we never had thrush again.

Since it helped there I suggested my husband use it on his toe nails. He had 2 that I was guessing were infected with fungus. They grew so thick I would file the tops of them so they looked less gross. It took awhile because the nails had to grow out. One was completely healed and one still looks a little funky but is half the size. I think he stopped using it too early on that toe (it was worse than the other to start with).

I have also used it on diaper rashes as sometimes those are caused by fungus. It had helped several times on those.

For over a month I had a white coating on tongue diagnosed as thrush. Was given 2 doses of nystatin. Didn't work. Was told to get Grapefruit seed extract as acts as antifungal. Took internally for one week. The next week I emptied the capsules and put it directly on my tongue. After 3 days the white coating was definately better. Been 6 days now & almost completely gone. Will continue for another week to take internally & put on tongue to make sure gone.. Notice I feel better now also. Not as tired & my bowel constipation has cleared up. I think this is a wonderful cure & it works!!!

Judy; you were very fortunate to have cured your little son of thrush. But as an older adult such as myself this thrush was not noticed as a young child and therefore was never treated, again it has progressed where it has deeply affected my whole system. Generally, if the whole body(system)is not treated it does great damage to the whole being it spreads like fire/feels like fire. While growing up I was on the wrong diet where thrush (which is the tip of the iceberg)is generally mold or fungus and got much worse

It causes many, many diseases(too many to mention).......

I agree that doctors are quacks, but the government controls these sad people, including vets. As does all clergymen, where animals/people are being used as needless and very painful experiments and, many years later have yet to prove anything of value. All I can say is: what can we expect from Corrupt America? Thankfully I am not one of the quacks but just a victim of circumstances. Thank you so much for your input it has helped me along the journey of healing through natural causes.

good luck & god bless

Gentian Violet

from wikipedia- Precautions

One study in mice demonstrated dose-related carcinogenic potential at several different organ sites. [25][26] The Food and Drug Administration in the US has determined that gentian violet has not been shown by adequate scientific data to be safe for use in animal feed. Use of gentian violet in animal feed causes the feed to be adulterated and is a violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act in the US. On June 28, 2007, the US food and Drug Administration issued an "import alert" on farm raised seafood from China because unapproved antimicrobials, including gentian violet, had been consistently found in the products. The FDA report states:

"Like MG [malachite green], CV [crystal violet] is readily absorbed into fish tissue from water exposure and is reduced metabolically by fish to the leuco moiety, leucocrystal violet (LCV). Several studies by the National Toxicology Program reported that the carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of crystal violet in rodents. It has also been linked to increased risk of human bladder cancer. The leuco form induces renal, hepatic and lung tumor in mice. "[27]

Gentian violet's common side effect is the staining of skin and cloth, but it can easily be washed off skin with a solution of bleach and water. However, if used on ulcerations or open wounds it can cause tattooing. It is generally considered safe for use on children and breastfeeding mothers. It has even been applied to the mouth and lips of premature infants, and has a long history of safe use. La Leche League recommends gentian violet for thrush on the nipple. [28] However, in large quantities, gentian violet may lead to ulceration of a baby's mouth and throat and is linked with mouth cancer. [29] Gentian violet has also been linked to cancer in the digestive tract of other animals. [30]

I have not had thrush in my mouth but a friend gets it regularly. I finally persuaded her to begin an Acidopholis Therapy. Go to your local Healthfood Shop and look in the Refrigerated Section for a good Prebiotic/Probiotic/Acidopholis. Take twice the dose for about a week then follow dose on bottle, forever! You can change brands to get different strands. I use only one, but you have to get it from the company online. It is superior IMO. Caprylic Acid is also helpful. For quick relief you can find Candida drops in your Healthfood Shop. Also, White Oak Bark can be found in a Tincture or open the capsule and mix in distilled water to rinse the mouth. If you can get Raw Milk, rinsing with that will help as well. Good Luck!

Oil Pulling

I read on e-how that oil pulling with coconut oil is recommended for 20 minutes and then spitting it out, but no rinse. Forgot how long, maybe week. FYI, oil pulling is swishing oil in your mouth for 5 or more minutes and then spitting it out.
