Yesterday I noticed I had what appeared to be jock itch. No discomfort just a discolouration on the inner thigh near the scrotum and upper pubic area. I used a bleach solution 50/50 for about 30 seconds in the shower, rinsed, and repeated. After my shower I dried off well then applied straight ACV. Before bedtime I applied selsun blue to affected area and slept with it on. This morning I showered toweled off then air dried before applying gold bond. Less than 24 hours and it already looks better. I'll let you all know how it goes.

It is always best to start small and slowly build to the amount that works for you. less is more and in the case of oil of oregano it is doubly true.

Currently using Hydrogen Peroxide 2x daily with vineagar.... Takes the itch out right away, no sting/burn gone in 3 days... You just smell like vinegar.

I have had this nonsense come back year after year as soon as it gets 70 degrees or higher... and God knows it can get very hot in NY and with humidity that is off the chart. I ride a motorcycle, bicycle, work out at the gym 6x per week, but when it hits .... is causes such distress that I cease almost all activity until October when it cools down. I had become very self conscious about the condition, I didnt want to be intimate with my wife as I couldn't stand the friction or the heat. >:-( .

I tried everything for the past 20 years... and steroids kept it at bay, but it never stopped. I came across this site and read what others had tried. The one thing I hadn't done was the bleach diluted 60% water 40% bleach.

I showered as usual with my favorite soap and rinsed, then used the mixture. Within seconds of applying the itch stopped, I let it remain for about 1 min then rinsed thoroughly...if your skin feels overly slick, you need more rinsing., or you can dilute the solution even more.

Make sure you dry completely...can't believe how well I sleep now.

Use caution of course and common sense, don't mix bleach and soap at the same time. Good luck

Had jock itch for a couple years, tried about everything to get rid of it. Started to get much worse quickly, luckily I found this site. Cider vinegar gave some immediate itch relief. Pouring 1/2 cup of clorox bleach into bath water and soak for 10 mins is very effective. Air dry before getting dressed. Apply some athletes foot ointment then cover that with vaseline. About a week of that and it's almost gone. Also washed clothes sheets and towels in borax, no clue if it helped but probably a good idea.

I've been having a problem with jock itch, and have read on this site, that Borax is a great anti-fungal. I bought some, and tried to wash in the shower but this stuff is like sandpaper. I bolded water and dissolved some, But, when it cooled down, It crystallized in the glass. Also, how much do you use and the time. I would appreciate any help because I have been suffering with jock itch for number of years and have tried every medicine the doctors have prescribed and a number of natural remedies to no avail.

Swimming in a Chlorinated Pool
Posted by Yeastman (Poway, Ca, Usa) on 01/27/2012
★★★☆☆

WORKED TEMPORARILY

My results were not so much swimming in a chlorinated pool as they were bathing in a chlorinated bath. I added about 1/4 cup of bleach to a bath and soaked in it nightly for around 1/2 an hour for two weeks. Briefly relieved itching, but did nothing for symptoms.

Swimming in a Chlorinated Pool
Posted by John (Sydney, Australia) on 04/04/2012

My hard-won insight is that, after all, it seems the operators of chlorinated public swimming pools do have some clue as to what controls fungus.

Over the course of several weeks I'd tried alcohol, vinegar, Lamisil, Vaporub, tea-tree oil, Canesten (clomitrazole). I gave each a fair time to show clear improvement, and all did have some seemingly good effect. But after those weeks of experience it seemed none was clearly winning the battle - there was no sense of a complete and proper solution at hand.

An allergy to tea tree oil caused an actual flare-up of the infection (as a side-effect it seems to the skin irritation the allergic reaction caused); five days of Lamisil showed not enough improvement when the tube label claimed seven days in total should be all that was necessary; the alcohol followed by vinegar was helping but wasn't promising to fully clear the infection.

Having seen others mention bleach, and one person the public swimming pool, the thought came ... Chlorine? it really does kill most things doesn't it? Sodium hypochlorite bleach producing free chlorine in solution. I also found claims that bleach baths worked not only for fungus but on conditions like eczema as well. And they were recommended for babies with persistent skin irritation so the bleach couldn't be too harsh, right? Then, when I smelt the bleach, came back memories from childhood of swimming training in chlorinated pools, and it seemed the stars were aligning to suggest that chlorine had been the obvious but overlooked answer all along.

For me at least - so it proved. After the first bath in bleach at about 1 part per 1000 - say just 50ml in 50l of bathwater - and about 20 minutes of gently washing the bathwater over the skin, the problem began clearing immediately and by the next morning was looking and feeling much better. I repeated the one bath per day for five days but also continued to apply Canesten (clomitrazole cream) to the hotspots. After five days what had been a persistent, entrenched, widespread problem was all but entirely gone, just a couple of small red spots remaining.

From my experience then I feel chlorine bleach to be the simplest, most effective, most obvious solution to fungal infections of the skin ... And anyone who like me has in the past spent significant time around public pools could probably have come to this conclusion far sooner than I did. That's all, good luck everyone!

Bleach in bathwater is effective. It wouldn't cure it completely though. I used many treatments in addition to bleach. both kinds of vinegar. Also visited the lotrimin website for information and photos to help determine which kind of infection it was. Jock itch seemed to match the best. So purchased Lotrimin ultra in the yellow packaging for jock itch and also the spray powder. Lotrimin claims the ultra penetrates deeper than other remedies. Still it couldn't quite cure it completely. Next I used a hair dryer to dry the affected area before applying the Lotrimin ultra, then again after application to try to melt it into the skin. That seems to have worked and finally finished it off.

definate nay on this one, especially the blue/green bottle. WARNING!

Gold Bond works great when used after applying a cream (lamisil or perscription strength). If your infection is serious do not use the powder by itself, because it won't do anything to fight the fungus and may even feed it because of the cornstach content mentioned above. There is no need for green bottle, the whole point of using it is just to maintain dryness... Don't rely on it for anything else other than keeping you dry. The extra stuff that comes in the green bottle isn't really needed to achieve this goal.

Oregano Oil

I had this terrible itching in the crotch area for four weeks that was driving me mad! I finally decided it was something that needed attention so I did some research and decided it must be jock itch. I thought only men got this, but here I was with the malady. I began to try various remedies. Here is a list of what I tried that did not work for me: ACV with honey (4 cups per day), rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide (rubbed on one day and held on for 30 minutes the next day), coconut oil internally and externally, tea tree oil, a rescue remedy tincture, athletes foot powder, a topical Lysine cream, diluted vinegar/water (3:1) with some grapeseed extract as a wash, A&D ointment and a one-ounce tube of hydrocortisone 1% cream. Nothing even touched it (although the hydrocortisone cream helped with the itching). So I went to the health food store and, being too embarrassed to tell them I had jock itch, instead told them I had altheltes foot (both are fungal). The lady suggested OIL of OREGANO. I had some on hand, so, after putting on a generous application of A&D ointment to areas I did not want touched by the oil (very important! don't skip this step! I am assuming any sort of oil or vaseline would work for this step) I used a q-tip and I put a small dab on each nickel-sized sores. It stung! A bring tears to your eyes sting! Like what-did-I-ever-do-to-deserve-this sting! It began to lesson after about 10 minutes, but I finally couldn't take it anymore and rubbed the area with coconut oil! I am pleased to say I have down-graded the sores from what I would call "active", to what I would consider "going away."

CAUTION - when you use oil of oregano less is best! Only apply once or twice a day. Only apply directly to the area. One time I had used too much on a little spot on my arm, letting it run all over and I applied it four to six times a day for probably seven days. It caused a burn of sorts that didn't go away for weeks!

I love your website! We have cured my husband of strep-throat four times in the last few- years with all your strep-throat remedies.

I didn't realise I had jock strap until it spread even in my belly button and armpits. I tried few remedies here didn't work.

I couldn't find any Oregano oil but best method so far for me is using combo of Anti Fungal cream, Anti Fungal tablets, Selsun BLue Shampoo, Anti Fungal Powder & eating lots garlic.

Over here the government funded public hospitals have 1 dollar for general consultations, each time you go you pay 1 dollar and get a tube of anti fungal cream. I went there few times past week to get enough tubes to help with it. Then I went to pharmacy to get Anti Fungal tablets. Very important to have oral meds if its really bad. I read Garlic is good against fungal as well.

I make sure each time I shower I wash those areas with Selsun Blue Shampoo then after shower I would powder those areas with Anti Fungal Powder eg Mecazo Powder.

My was pretty serious before I start acting on it, it looked like it has layers of different shades of red on it. So far within 4 days its no longer reddish only pinkish on all affected skin areas. I think its healing properly.

I was using steroid cream to get rid of jock itch, and while that worked, after a couple years of doing this I noticed stretch marks at the very top of my thigh. So I stopped using the steroid. Then I tried every anti-fungal cream, powder, and spray that I could find but nothing worked. In the shower, I was scrubbing the area with diluted bleach and then leaving the rag there for no less than 2 minutes every day. That did not work. Rubbing alcohol worked like a charm for me. I pour some on a makeup removal cotton pad, swab both sides of my groin, and then leave the pad on the problem side, wedged there till I get through my morning routine. I remove the pad and then put baby powder all over before putting my jockies on.

Rubbing Alcohol

After dealing with jock itch for 1.5 years, I have to give the rubbing alcohol remedy a big YEA. Here is my story detailing everything I tried along the way, perhaps it will benefit others that are afflicted with this fungus.

By the time I relized I had jock itch (tinea cruris) I was about 2 months in and had a pretty bad case by then. I puchased some anti fungal cream as recommended @ $10 per ounce at the drug store.

Anti fungal cream :::

Don't waste your money. After about 3-4 weeks of faithful application twice daily I thought the problem was cured, but 2-3 weeks later the infection was back with a vengance. After repeating this cyle for 3 more tubes of cream I realized that the cream was merely keeping the infection "at bay" and not killing the fungus off. My mindset was, kill the fungus, problem solved.. I read many posts that merely address the symtom, they say I used X and the problem (itching) went away. I can tell you it doesn't work that way. I figured if I killed the root of the problem (the fungus) I would be cured and back to normal. Not so, in my experience..... I now believe there is no "cure", only prevention.

BORAX :::

After giving up on the anti-fungal cream I came across earth-clinic and decided to give something else a try. Borax WAS effective however I found it difficult to administer I used it for about 3 weeks. The day after the first application I noticed what looked like red spider veins further down my thighs on both sides in what was virgin skin.... The fungi were actually running away from the borax.... A good sign!!! The best way I found to apply the borax solution was just to wet down the crotch and anal area, but then you have to wear wet shorts after... I imagine some type of small tub that you could sit and soak in may have worked but I didn't get that far. The blistering and oozing of the skin continued during the borax treatments but things were getting better. I began using rubbing alcohol as well.... borax before bed and alcohol during the day and thats when things really started to improve.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) :::

The Apple Cider Vinegar burned my skin .... After about 2-3 days I quit that.... Skin was very sore and tender to the touch ( 1st degree burns )

Rubbing Alcohol :::

The holy grail..... Easy to apply, odorless, evaporates..... Yes, there was quite a bit of stinging for the first couple weeks, but now my skin is healed. I have not had any eruptions (blistering / oozing) for over 4 weeks now I have been wiping down using a cotton cosmetic pad 1-2 times per day.

Conclusion :::

Per Mayo Clinic "Jock itch is caused by fungi called dermatophytes. These microscopic organisms are normal inhabitants of your skin, and their growth stays in check as long as your skin is clean and dry. But on some areas of the body where skin is more likely to be moist and warm, such as the groin, the fungi grow and thrive, resulting in a fungal infection. "
I stated earlier there is no cure... So what caused this infection in the first place? since these fungi normally exist on our bodies. The only logical explanation is that the immune system can not deal with it for some reason (perhaps weakened due to age) Therefore the only logical way to deal with these "normal" fungi is to kill them off in the moist areas where they thrive. Rubbing alcohol is the easiest simplest and cheapest way to do that.

It says its 200 times as powerful as bleach as a disinfectant. http://www.prohealthmicrobials.com/Oxine103S.jpg is a list of what it kills and the kill rate.

All of these well intended cures are pretty much the equivalent of urban legends. That said, out of desperation I've still tried them all. Most don't work; perhaps because people and the symptoms can be so different. You may or may not have crotch rot: It could be something different.

Without making you read all of this, I'll get to the point first: I have used a combination of rubbing alcohol 2-3 times a day and Gold Bond Friction Defense. That combination (after trying everything else) worked. Symptoms reduced in 1-2 days. All symptoms gone inside of 3 days. My guess is that the alcohol simply super dries the area and breaks down fungus if present. The Gold Bond removes the friction component which for my money is why some get close but don't quite cure this.

What I learned in the process:

Keep your crotch dry and clean. Change underwear every day and often during symptoms. Change your towel every day. Try to be aware of what is going on as this condition crops up: track your underwear-you may be latex allergic, there may be stitches that rub you wrong or your underwear may simply be too tight; rubbing you continually- You have to de-stress the area .

Know where you are in the continuum of this (i. e. If you are in a full blown infection, you need to see a Dr. If it is just starting, fix it early. If you're near the end, be more gentle with the treatment as you need your skin to recover-you don't want to nuke your skin.)

Make sure to track and treat athletes foot also (alcohol helps this a great deal too, but use anti fungal also). Make sure not to cross contaminate yourself (i. E. If you have athletes foot, don't touch that area and then touch your crotch or vice versa). Dry yourself in one direction-top of head down. Don't go back up after you've touched areas. Wear only cotton underwear that fits you properly.

This stuff is a nightmare when it gets out of control but it is typically not serious and the treament can be simple and effective. Be careful to not go crazy and injure yourself in tyring to get rid of this. Use good sense. Hope this helps.
