My twenty one year old son with Down syndrome has had jock itch since he went through puberty. Over the counter remedies didn't work. Essential oils such as eucalyptus and tea tree helped a little but not significantly, and irritated his already sensitive skin. More diluted mixtures to protect the skin weren't strong enough to help significantly. Eventually the skin became purplish gray (from chronic jock itch, according to the doctor). In addition, the skin on his entire body is always red, very dry and irritated looking.

Recently I had scabies and decided to treat my son in order to prevent him from catching them. The things I did differently than usual were to add some orange oil to his body wash and shampoo, use neem oil on his skin, and I soaked him twice in one week with Ted's borax/hydrogen peroxide soak (not too much peroxide) and left it on the skin. After about ten days, I brought him to the doctor to make sure he didn't have scabies. When the doctor examined his private area, he looked so surprised and commented about how much better my son's skin looked. In fact although still dry looking, the redness that pretty much covers his entire body is about eighty-five per cent gone! I realized that he hasn't been scratching lately either. I don't know which of the remedies contributed to his improvement, possibly a good combination of treatments. In fact it's early to tell, but he might even be completely cured of the jock itch. I chose the neem for it's anti-scaby benefits, but also because it's said to be kind to the skin. I had the impression from researching that neem eliminates scabies, over time, with consistent daily applications, not a one or two time application to be effective.

BTW, I enjoy sharing effective remedies, because we've been helped so much by the info on the site and i like to give back.

I tried everything that everybody recommended and more to boot, some things worked but its Like my body or fungus would overcome the remedy every time! Oil of oregano worked great but after a while nope not anymore so after going almost insane, I went to the doctor with much skepticism. He prescribed a shampoo ketoconazole) and a cream called desonide. It works! I can honestly say that after 2 months I am living normal again. I know what or how maddening this condition is and I know the skeptisicm with docs but it's the only thing that helped me!!! Just saying...

When your tired of keeping your fungal infection around as a pet try Oregano oil, at whatever strength best suits your desire to get rid of it. I used 3 drops straight then washed it off because of pain, regrouped and put one drop on after applying vaseline where I did not want to treat. It caused a lot of redness, pain and a layer of dead skin formed by the next day; but once the dead skin peeled off I could see it was cured. Treated again just to be sure.

It is always best to start small and slowly build to the amount that works for you. less is more and in the case of oil of oregano it is doubly true.

Oregano Oil: I had an obgyn doctor confirmed fungal infection in my labia major, anal, and groin areas. The doctor couldn't identify the condition or what type of fungal infection I had, so she just subscribed an anti-fungal cream. I tried the cream and it started to work on the outer regions but it didn't seem to stop the growth near the entrance of my vagina. The Fungal infection made it impossible for me to walk without pain and exercise was a total no go, it felt like needles cutting into my skin. I was at a loss, I felt like western medicine had failed me so I began to do an extensive internet search, and came across some images of Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch) that looked very much like what I was suffering from.

I came to Earth Clinic to find a remedy as I frequent this site and have used it in the past. Since I had been suffering from this fungal rash off and on since 2009 and not stop from September of 2011 till now, I had been rather desperate to find a solution to my problem. I went to a holistic market and found wild mediterranean oregano infused with extra virgin olive oil. I applied the oregano oil to my groin and external vaginal lips. It didn't take long for the burning sensation to be felt. Boy did it ever burn! I had to put myself in the right mindset not to let the burning get to me (distracting yourself helps a lot).

I had applied the oil right before bed time, and it burned all night, but after a while I believe the oregano oil had a cooling quality. I woke up in the morning, and I could still feel a subtle cooling-burn in my infected regions. When I looked in the mirror, the bumps that I had were gone, but the area was still reddish, however, I no longer felt the non-stop itching. I could walk again without pain!

I was amazed that after the first night, I was healed. I continued to apply the oregano oil for the next five days just to make sure that the fungus did not grow back. I am now 100% fungus free and would recommend oregano oil to anyone suffering from Tinea Cruris, aka jock itch. Oregano Oil Works!

I'm in the process of using Oregano Oil for jock itch. I've been aware of this product for quite some time and knew it would burn. After only 3 days of use, my ailment is nearly gone.

Glad you're having success with oregano oil. Are you using it straight or as part of a cream or ointment product? How often did you apply it each day?

I had this terrible itching in the crotch area for four weeks that was driving me mad! I finally decided it was something that needed attention so I did some research and decided it must be jock itch. I thought only men got this, but here I was with the malady. I began to try various remedies. Here is a list of what I tried that did not work for me: ACV with honey (4 cups per day), rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide (rubbed on one day and held on for 30 minutes the next day), coconut oil internally and externally, tea tree oil, a rescue remedy tincture, athletes foot powder, a topical Lysine cream, diluted vinegar/water (3:1) with some grapeseed extract as a wash, A&D ointment and a one-ounce tube of hydrocortisone 1% cream. Nothing even touched it (although the hydrocortisone cream helped with the itching). So I went to the health food store and, being too embarrassed to tell them I had jock itch, instead told them I had altheltes foot (both are fungal). The lady suggested OIL of OREGANO. I had some on hand, so, after putting on a generous application of A&D ointment to areas I did not want touched by the oil (very important! don't skip this step! I am assuming any sort of oil or vaseline would work for this step) I used a q-tip and I put a small dab on each nickel-sized sores. It stung! A bring tears to your eyes sting! Like what-did-I-ever-do-to-deserve-this sting! It began to lesson after about 10 minutes, but I finally couldn't take it anymore and rubbed the area with coconut oil! I am pleased to say I have down-graded the sores from what I would call "active", to what I would consider "going away."

CAUTION - when you use oil of oregano less is best! Only apply once or twice a day. Only apply directly to the area. One time I had used too much on a little spot on my arm, letting it run all over and I applied it four to six times a day for probably seven days. It caused a burn of sorts that didn't go away for weeks!

Your husband's sore throat could actually be Candida related as it can be passed from spouse to spouse even though most doctors do not recognize that fact.

I didn't realise I had jock strap until it spread even in my belly button and armpits. I tried few remedies here didn't work.

I couldn't find any Oregano oil but best method so far for me is using combo of Anti Fungal cream, Anti Fungal tablets, Selsun BLue Shampoo, Anti Fungal Powder & eating lots garlic.

Over here the government funded public hospitals have 1 dollar for general consultations, each time you go you pay 1 dollar and get a tube of anti fungal cream. I went there few times past week to get enough tubes to help with it. Then I went to pharmacy to get Anti Fungal tablets. Very important to have oral meds if its really bad. I read Garlic is good against fungal as well.

I make sure each time I shower I wash those areas with Selsun Blue Shampoo then after shower I would powder those areas with Anti Fungal Powder eg Mecazo Powder.

My was pretty serious before I start acting on it, it looked like it has layers of different shades of red on it. So far within 4 days its no longer reddish only pinkish on all affected skin areas. I think its healing properly.

Hydrocortisone cream shouldn't be used on jock itch. It just makes it worse. Sadly I am going through this at the moment. I made the mistake of using hydrocortisone cream on it. It had no affect as far as the itching is concerned and just made a small problem bigger. My remedies so far without success tea tree oil (made my skin peel and burns very bad on the second application), various antifungal creams and sprays with 1 percent active ingredient (tolnaftate, terbinafine hydrochloride, & clotrimazole), hydrogen peroxide 3 percent, and 1 cup table salt in bath water (might have been better to do it as 1 cup water to 1 cup table salt and spray it on). The antifungal creams did get the jock itch under control on my scrotum but not anywhere else. And that has spread to my rear. I am currently trying out isopropyl alcohol 91 percent. It does seem to have an affect on the red rash on my right inner thigh. Next up will be a mixture of oils (tea tree, neem, oreganol, tyme, eucalyptus, myrrh, and frankenscense).

Athlete's foot fungus can become much more than an itch on your little toe as I've learned. It started that way for me but over the years migrated elsewhere on my body so that it manifested itself anywhere my skin touched skin - toes, crotch, underarms, inside my elbows... Initially, the fungus was just on my feet. I sort of managed it by using anti-fungal ointments. After about eight years of sort of dealing with this problem, the fungus migrated elsewhere so I began an intensive effort to get rid of this scourge.

I even tried the prescription anti-fungal treatment that is taken internally and requires blood test monitoring to ensure no harm to your liver. There were so many spores around the house that I was immediately re-infested after the treatment finished. Washing clothes with very hot water or just throwing them away after a single use weren't enough.

I had the thought of trying probiotics after using a heavy chlorinated whirlpool bath to kill the fungus was counterproductive as this permitted the fungus to go everywhere. This indicated I had killed my natural defenses.

Natural, bacterial defenses are the solution. I applied a top grade, multi-bacteria probiotic to the infested areas and it worked!! No pain, just dead fungus. These probiotics are anaerobic as they normally live in a person's gut. So, they don't have a long life and must be reapplied daily or whenever you feel a little itch. After more research I found the probiotic that attacks the fungus: lactobacillus rhamnosus. This is available online for a very reasonable price. Mix the contents of one gelcap with about one teaspoon of water and apply to infested area.

I had jock itch for over 6 years. tried everything. the itching is crazy. tried listerine, tried creams, tried pills. doctors couldnt help.

Finally I came across some information on the web about rubbing alcohol and jock itch

I tried it and it works. It burns like hell the first few times but afterwards you immedialty feel the itching has dissapeared. Do it after you take a shower. dry yourself well with a towel and a blow dryer. then apply some rubbing alcohol. Wait for it to dry. Then put your pants on.

Haven't had any itch in 3 years. Sometimes just as preventive I still use it, it doesnt burn anymore I guess I got used to it.

I have used rubbing alcohol to fend off itching in the groin, but it always caused a lot of pain. I don't know what was different this time -- concentration, something else on my skin (witch hazel?) but the pain was really bad. I tried washing it off in the shower, which helped but didn't eliminate the pain. I put on some healing cream and later tried some baby powder -- don't know if anything made the situation worse, but the pain continued and eventually I noticed signs of burning - the redness remained very bad, there was some blistering, sort of like a sunburn -- dry, crinkly skin that peeled and of course ongoing pain. Wish I knew what made the reaction so bad, but at any rate, before trying this popular remedy I would suggest testing with a small amount.

I also use the alcohol method in the form of hand sanitizer and it works. I apply in the shower and let it soak in for 3-5 minutes and then I rinse it off. Leaving it in was a little much for my skin. I also had to put in some homemade vaseline/beeswax combination on the folds of my skin between by legs and my business to facilitate healing. Worked like a charm. Thanks to all for the writeups.

Re: Rubbing Alcohol for Jock Itch.? Rubbing alcohol worked great! My doctor (who is excellent) suggested that Lamisil works best (out of all the topical creams). So I used the rubbing alcohol (on tissue paper squares) and then put the Lamisil on afterwards. Walmart sells a higher potion form of rubbing alcohol... and also sells a generic form of Lamisil that is a lot less expensive! Both worked great together! At first, none of the top brand topical creams worked for me whatsoever (except for only a little bit of change).

At first the rubbing alcohol stings for a minute or so... but after a few days... it's negligible! I now put on the rubbing alcohol (as a preventative) after daily showers... and a tiny amount of the Lamisil cream. I put the rubbing alcohol in a small medicine (vitamin) plastic container; I use only a new piece of tissue square each time I place it against the mouth of the container to soak it. Works great!!!! Goodby nasty itchy fungus among us!!!!!!!!! :)

Hi Mahbabaji, Get some MMS (Master Mineral Solution) and use it for your jock itch. It cures athletes foot in one application, so it will surely take care of this too. Get Jim Humbles book, "Master Mineral Solution for the 3rd Millennium" It's available as a free download.

Good luck!

M: Welcome back. All the great dietary suggestions you have made here must have been helpful to some folks, although I think such a radical departure from the standard diet is too much for one step. Slowly incorporating the nutrition dense foods you suggest may prove a more viable option.

Anyway, I wonder why you advise abstaining from MMS as a topical antibiotic? If you have any negative reports from this use please post them as the particular info is better than opinion.

Speaking of info, Hulda Clark strongly advises against Isopropyl Alcohol as it is a toxic solvent that is not easily detoxified by the body and provides a home for parasites to establish themselves. People with liver disease or impaired detox would be high risk for this possibility. So, the safest alcohol would be something like "Everclear" grain alcohol or Vodka from liquor store. Adding some liquid extract of Eucalyptus to alcohol makes for a superior antiseptic.

Rubbing Alcohol to get rid of jock itch: I tried all the creams and sprays out there including the most popular jock itch remedies and even other home remedies I read about.

Then I tried the really easy to find and inexpensive 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, and the itch went away in a matter of days and has never returned.

I experienced a two unexpected benefits too. One is it keeps you smelling fresh, even after sweating for hours and hours in a hot climate. I am now using it as deodorant too.

The other is I thought I had an anal fissure as I had pain and bleeding with each bowel movement. Apparently the rubbing alcohol applied to that area cleared that up to. Now I have no blood ever, and just slight discomfort sometimes.

If you have an itchy anal area it might be jock itch and the rubbing alcohol will get rid of it there too.

Regarding the safety of using it I read about tests where they applied hand sanitizer which is 60% alcohol 30 times per hour throughout the day and found almost no trace of it in the blood. This test was done because nurses use a lot of it throughout the day. Hand Sanitizer is like Rubbing Alcohol with some things thrown in to make it smell fresh and not dry out the skin.

I figure if they tested 30 times per hour and I was only applying it twice per day I was OK.

Regarding dry skin it is not drying out my skin, but I do live in a hot, moist climate.

For Jock Itch, I used 70% Rubbing Alcohol several times the first two days, basically every couple of hours or so. Amazing results! The cotton rounds is the best way to apply. Just soak one and swab the entire area well. It does burn but subsides pretty quick, of course depending in your level of irritation. Now I follow this routine every day with Gold Bond or similar menthol medicated powder included.

I had Jock Itch for years. It was horrible. I had tried many of the over the counter jock itch treatments, but they did not work. At times, I wondered whether they actually made the problem worse. Because topical treatments failed to work, my doctor recommended an oral medication, but I was a bit reluctant to take it (having read about potential side effects). I had decided that I would try some of the remedies on this website before taking an oral medication.

At first, I tried Oil of Oreganol. I applied it to the area. It was very painful! For about an hour after applying it, I was in quite a large amount of pain. It was manageable, but definitely quite painful. Nonetheless, it did seem to work. The Jock Itch was subsiding. After using Oil of Oreganol for about a month, the Jock Itch had cleared up by roughly 67%. However, it was not fully gone and I wasn't sure whether the Oil of Oreganol would completely get rid of it.

I noticed that rubbing alcohol had the highest number of successful posts on this website. I also read Gene Keyes story, described above. Therefore, I decided to give it a try. I felt a brief, sharp pain when I applied the rubbing alcohol, but the pain subsided in less than a minute. It was much better than being in pain for an hour with Oil of Oreganol. Furthermore, the rubbing alcohol cleared up the Jock Itch. Within just a few days, the Jock Itch completely cleared up.

It has been gone for two months now.

As described in Gene Keyes' post, daily application of rubbing alcohol (after I shower) does seem to be necessary to keep the Jock Itch away. I run a lot and the Jock Itch seems to come back (a little bit) if I have been sweating during a run or if it is a particularly hot day. But after showering and applying the rubbing alcohol, the Jock Itch quickly retreats again. Thus, rubbing alcohol does seem to be a foolproof preventer of Jock Itch, but not a complete cure, as described in Gene Keyes article (linked above).

But I do not care! Having struggled with Jock Itch for years, I have finally gotten rid of it. It was an embarassing, discomforting situation. It caused me a lot of emotional frustration, as I am sure anyone who has suffered from this condition can understand. But daily application of rubbing alcohol keeps the Jock Itch away. I feel so happy to finally be rid of this skin condition. And even if it does require daily application of rubbing alcohol to keep it away, I couldn't care less. I am so happy that rubbing alcohol works.

To those of you who are out there struggling with this condition, I encourage you to try rubbing alcohol to see whether it works. I am still amazed that rubbing alcohol -- an item sold in the pharmacy just a few feet from the conventional Jock Itch / Athlete's Foot ointments that have failed so many people -- is effective at getting rid of Jock Itch. Equally surprising is that few people are even aware that Rubbing Alcohol can be effective at eliminating Jock Itch (i. E. , there's no mention of rubbing alcohol as a treatment for Jock Itch on the Mayo Clinic website.)

In any case, rubbing alcohol worked for me. I am thrilled to finally be rid of this embarrassing skin condition! I hope that my story helps others deal with this condition.

Hey man, I read your post and you said your jock itch isn't completely cured w the alcohol. Here's the thing, fungus stays on your underwear and clothing bleach won't irradicate it completely. I recommend that you let any clothing that has or could be exposed to your jock itch to be sanitized in this manner:

First use boiling hot water then add a cap of lysol laundry disinfectant to the washing machine. Let it soak (after) its run through the wash cycle for 15 minutes. After 15 to 20 minutes turn your machine back on. When the machine goes through the final rinse cycle use the lysol again in the final rinse, like the lysol instructions say. The heat itself may kill the fungus but it seems the added lysol has prevented flare ups from exposure to contaminated underwear and clothing for me.

91% alcohol will then be enough to completely kill off your genital fungus. Thing is we reinfect ourselves with towels, underwear, even paints that have come into contact with your fungus groin. If in doubt poor a little extra 91% on your groin to wear your clothing that's going to come in contact with you soaks up the excess. Again I've found that clothing and towels will reinfect you very easily. Fungus is hard to kill off for this reason.
