I have used ointment for this after showering. Just an amount the size of the end of your finger is all it takes. After drying real good with a towel I dry completly with a hair dryer then I apply a small amount of Ointment to the hemmoroid and anus area. Thats it. It's a very old remedy. I live in Michigan and can only find it at one Walgreen's store in town. Active ingredients: Camphor, 3.0%, anti itching. Phenol, 2.5%, anesthetic. Tannic acid, 6.6% astringent. Other ingredients: Petrolatum, Bees Wax, Lavender Oil The trademark is PBO and it's in a yellow container. could be in a tube or a small plastic jar of 3oz. My mother and Uncle used this preparation for years with success. Thats why I use it too.

It took me hours of searching to find the OTC product that you mentioned. For those of you that want to know as well, it's called Peterson's Ointment or Peterson's Hemorrhoidal Ointment.

Both me and my partner had the itch. It was excruciating! I tried ACV and this definitely stopped it for a while but man it hurt!

When it came back I tried ACV again taping it on overnight as some had suggested and holy crap the next day INFECTION!!!!!!! White pussy and open sores disgusting mess. WTF!!!! OWWWWWWWWWW sad sad sad.

Luckily I have a silver colloid machine. I soaked a soft cotton ball in silver and gently wedged it against my anus and kept it there overnight. Next day was not infected and 80% better!

I cut fresh pieces of aloe vera leaf and soothed it on to heal the sores - sticky, icky but oh so soothing.

One week later - Fixed the sores But my butt was still itchy!

Decided to bring my own brain back into gear. Most problems that I've had over the years have been due to parasites. Even though there was NO visible signs of parasites I remembered that it is always a good place to start.

Used tablets that contained Black walnut, Chinese Wormwood, barberry, ginger, gentian, thyme oil, cinnamon bark oil.

We are both now itch free, a lot happier and a tiny bit (heaps) embarrassed! Lol

Itchy but it's a sign of parasites in your organism, check that out! I remember reading an article about using natural remedies to deparasite the body wich said that we should use one remedy at a time for no longer than one week or ten days because the parasites develop resistence to it, always have them on an empty stomach, especially in the morning. There was a list of over a dozen of natural remedies, I remember only a few like bee products, garlic or pumpkin seeds, not salted or roasted, I think you can find more info. on this site or google if you are interested.

I've had 2 horrible episodes and wondering if sugary treats set it off. Also have not had any corn in many month, had cornbread that about killed me until all of those 2 meals got thru my system.

Incredible. I was despairing, having tried everything including antifungals and steroid creams. This works like magic. I believe it works by restoring the acid mantle of the skin--healthy skin being naturally acidic. Anyway- itch gone, comfort restored!

Bidet

A bidet made my anal itching all go away. I had wanted one for years, but we didn't have hot water near the stool. I decided to get one anyway and use cold water only until we could run a hot water line to it. My husband hooked it up in just a few minutes. He turned off the water, unscrewed the water line to the stool, then screwed a bidet connection that fit to the water line and the bidet. Water then can go to the toilet, when it is flushed or the bidet, if it is turned on. Everything to hook it up was included.

This one isn't electric and it works great. I bought it on sale at Amazon for $79. The first week the water seemed a little cold and it was summer time. (My daughter said it gave her frost bite. ) I got used to it being cold and it doesn't bother me at all even in the winter time during zero weather. The water to the bidet stays in the waterline in the bathroom and the chill dissipates between uses. I have used it and it didn't bother me.

I have a range of motion problem, so it was very hard to wipe, I had to lay down to clean myself and it would take at least 10 minutes 4 times a day. I get cleaner with the bidet. I sometimes use a hand held bidet with warm water and hand lotion or oil in it to rinse after I have used the stool bidet. The company offers a hand held bidet with the toilet bidet sometimes. A hand held is good when you are away from home but the toilet bidet is a lot better.

Anal Itch finally gone. I am 46 and have had the miserable itch since I was 18 years old. I would be embarrassed to tell you everything I have tried but finally found a solution. DESITIN cream (used on baby butts to prevent rash). This is a thick cream that I use once each morning. All the other creams disolve throughout the day or when you wipe and the itch quickly returns. I have gone from feeling like I have poison ivy to forgetting there was ever an itch. I would have paid $1,000 dollars for a remedy but this really works. Good luck.

Good to read it's not just me. I'll be gluten free for 2012.

Anal itch may be the sign of low circulation in the area. Yogasana has prove useful in such cases. The name is Uddiana Bandha (Abdominal Lift). Google and you would know the technique.

Do not be alarmed if you experience pain. It is positive sign.

I have the type of itchy butt that's kept me up at night scratching, which of course, made it even worse. Well, I'm also pregnant so it wasn't letting me get the sleep I need. Well after hours of searching the net, I found this site out of desperation. I just tried hydrogen peroxide soaked into a cotton ball and applied quite a bit. Surprisingly it didn't burn at all, and to my surprise is working SLIGHtly. I am more comfortable than I was a few minutes ago, though the nagging itch is still there. However, I think I can finally fall asleep now.

I can not tell you how many other "unsafe" things I tried just to get a little relief. It was maddening. Keeping the stool firm, I used anti diarrhea medication as needed. I hope this helps. ~donna

Boris, where did you get this information? Please show your source because I can't find any information that putting rubbing alcohol / hand sanitizer on the outside on the anal area is bad for the mucosal lining.

Everyone knows drinking alcohol and alcohol enemas are bad for the mucosal lining, but there is a big difference between taking alcohol internally vs. externally. Everyone also knows that hand sanitizer is not meant for internal use.

The number one cure on EarthClinic.com for Tinea Cruris, otherwise known as Jock Itch, is rubbing alcohol. Tinea Cruris is the reason many people have anal itching, so using the #1 cure for it make sense.

They have studied if Hand Sanitizer enters the blood stream, and after applying it 30 times in 1 hour after 10 minutes the ETOH level was 0.

30 times per hour is what a typical health care working might do, but for getting rid of Tinea Cruris one or two times per day works. A nurse could be using as much hand sanitizer in one long shift as one would be exposed to in 1 entire year of applying it for Tinea Cruris, and as it takes it away in a couple days there is no need to apply it for 1 year. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1803104/#r4.

I have a similar itch, a nagging problem, I have been dealing with for years. I had been washing with anti-bacterial hand soap with relatively good, but inconvenient, results. I picked up an old bottle of Watkins "Pain Relieving Liniment". It's mostly alcohol & watel, I think. But it's fine ingredients are Comphor, Capsicum, & Spruce oil. It presented me with a very warm glow down under for an hour. 4 hours later I'm cool as a cucumber, and a happy maggot, me.

I suffer with anal itching usually around my menstral cycle. When I gave birth to my daughter years ago, the hospital gave me a personal hygiene bottle. You fill the bottle with water and wash your rear with it. Ever since then I use it every time I go to the bathroom. I have ordered several bottles off of hospital supply websites and keep at least one bottle in every bathroom. I even take them with me when I travel. You can't beat them for cleansing. You don't have to further irritate the area by wiping to get clean. For severe cases I put castor oil on a cotton ball and keep it on the area for a while and it brings me relief.

If you take too much acidolphilus or any probiotic supplement you will definitely get an itchy butt--I guarantee it! That is one easy way to tell if you are overdosing. You will think you have pinworms as it feels like just like something is moving or crawling at the anal opening.

Ahhha..so I think that must be true about too much probiotics causing an itchy butt. I have never had this problem, despite having IBS, irritation...yes...but itching like crazy like this..never!! It's so annoying. I haven't taken any probiotics today to see if it will help. I just recently started them and then upped the amount. I will definitely cut back. As far as trying to get rid of the itch...some improvement with the tea tree oil on a cotton ball. Kept it on there for about 5 mins. Felt cooling and soothing, minor sting, not bad at all, but only lessened the itch. So I put some zinc oxide ointment which kept it under control most of the day, but now it's itching again. I just put some VCO to see how that helps. No change yet. But hoping it will stop eventually with reducing the probiotics!!

Okay... It`s been few months that I am suffering from this itchying where I got to a point that I couldnt take anymore. Went to the doctor and did a full treatment for worms(6 X meza*&&^ can`t remember the medicine name)anyway it didnt work. Went back and collected a sample for scan and the result didnt show any kind of parasites. So I found this BRILIANT article about the Apple CIder Vinegar which made me scream in the toilet :) but it felt good!! Oh yahhh. I have to say that sorted me out, but what`s happening now its that becomes itchy after using the toilet( after a shit).. Where I have to use the ACV again! Im wondering that could be my diet as I am very much into weight training(carb cycling at the moment). Could it be too much protein? considering that I eat every 3-4 hours.. 7 meals /day. Also did reduce the amount of whey protein that I was taking since last year( isolated whey chocolate flavour-again could it be from cocoa powder.. ??!! ) Appreciate any suggestions! :) Thank you Christine!! Also, I know what is causing my itchy butt. My doc put me on high dose probiotics to naturally get rid of a stomach pnemonia virus and then I started a 3-week cleanse that had probiotics in it. No wonder when I got off the cleanse I had itchy butt.

I am just getting over a stomach flu and was dosing up on my probiotics.... No wonder I've got such an itchy butt tonight. :-(. Ok, I'm off the probiotics until I'm not itchy anymore.

itchy butt: I found your site while searching for alternative treatment for hbp. In only 3 days my results have been nothing short of miraculous. Thank you earth clinic and to all of the people who contribute to your website. I'd also like to contribute a remedy of my own to the itchy butt ailment category. My line of work requires that I am exposed to extreme heat both from the sun and 400 degree asphalt which irritates or chaps my and my co-workers butt regularly. The best and quickest cure for this is rubbing alcohol! Yes, it burns like heck for about 15 seconds, but as soon as the burning stops, healed! A fan blowing directly to the area helps alot. I've tried getting my girlfriend to blow until it stops burning, but she just laughs too hard to make any wind.

Rubbing Alcohol
Posted by Alma (Sparta, Ga) on 06/21/2009

The request by the boyfriend to have someone "blow on his butt" is not something you should do. If he has a pinworm infestation, the eggs are deposited by the females during the night on the exterior of the buttocks and will become airborne resulting in the person doing the "blowing" becoming infected. To see the pinworm go to Google and type into the search block "pinworm image" without the quotation marks.

Witch Hazel, Diaper Rash Cream
Posted by Heretohelp8 (London, Ontario, Canada) on 08/05/2012

I have had a problem with my anus being itchy for about two weeks now. I'm not completely sure as to the cause of this horrid and embarrassing problem but it does seem to occur when I have a loose, watery bowel movement. My mom believes it is due to the acidity in my diet, which burns the sensitive skin around the anus and causes irritation, but I can't be sure. I will work to actually curing my problem in the future, but for now, all I crave is a remedy. In the beginning my mother suggested icing the area. I agreed and felt relief soon enough. I lie on my back and wedge a half inch thick hard ice pack between my cheeks and it seems to do the trick within ten minutes. I make sure to keep a piece of clothing between ice and skin, and make sure not to ice for to long or you will get frostbitten. But who carries around a frozen icepack with them? So I needed something portable. And on top of that I am still horribly itchy for those ten minutes.

So I read online in multiple places about witch hazel, and asked my mom to pick me up some. She did and I began using it. It didn't work at first, but I don't believe I applied it properly. I just used it again, accompanied with an ice pack and it seemed to do the trick within five. When I applied it this time I soaked a thick piece of toilet paper in it, sat on the toilet and held it to the area. It did sting a tad in the beginning but it gets better. I still have doubts about witch hazel used on its own or as a cure, but it would certainly work in a pinch or coupled with ice. Hope this helped!

I have been suffering since last January. All of a sudden, if I drink coffee I have diarrhea and really harsh burning and itching of the butt. (I have been drinking coffee since I was a child). I stopped coffee and started drinking tea. That was OK for a few months now I can't have more than 2 cups of tea or it starts hurting. Now, tomato sauce, veggie burgers, a glass of wine - anything with high fiber! I went to a gastrointerologist who suggested I get a colonoscopy. Afterwards he said there was nothing wrong except that I had some diverticulitis in my upper left colon. I stopped all the foods that irritate me. Last night I had a veggie burder (I haven't had one in about six months so I thought I'd give it a try). My butt itched all morning and when I went into the bathroom, my butt had "leaked" and there was a mess in my pants. I need to tell you that I am in very good physical condition. I eat healthy food, exercise, never smoked or drank (an occasional glass of wine) - I am mortified writing this message. has anyone else had a similar thing happen and what was diagnosis. I had a similar problem recently. I would get these horrible itching on my behind immediately after going to the bathroom. The only thing that made it go away was showering, but only until the next potty time...

You can make it go away by taking bentonite clay (preferable), or activated charcoal (in my country it's called vegetable coal). Do your homework before running out to buy it, because there are many ways to take it and a few warnings that you must know so you can recognize side affects and adjust things accordingly. The trick is to use an amount that improves regularity and the "quality" of your movements. Everybody is different, find what works for you.

Good luck!

My husband had anal itching for years, and years. Finally I cracked down and told him he was taking acidophilis. He was amazed! He couldn't believe that I knew what he needed when he explained the problem well enough and I put him on a good probiotic. He found after that, just wiping w/tissue fixed the problem instead of his having to leave a wet washcloth in the floor for me to wash every day. But, he'd always had to wash well w/water to keep from itching terribly. Sure smoothed out a rough spot in our marriage! Lol

The doc gave me like four refills on this stuff but I barely used a few days of it, it comes in a 1lb jar 453. 6 grams all I know is the itch has never came back if it does just put a little cream on it and its gone instantly. anyways the cream was "Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, 0. 1%" This stuff worked I think the stuff only costs me like 4 dollars at most so its cheap and it works. Start off with three teaspoons a day and smear the oil into the anal cavity and around the buttocks. If this dosnt work (Im sure it will) then try another antifungal. From what I now believe it was most likely a male yeast infection or some type of severe jock itch. Even though I used tea tree oil and aloe it came back with a vengeance. I then found using 91% Isoproply Alcohol on cotton rounds or on cotton pads applied to the areas that itched took care of ALL of the itch problems. It will burn like Heck and you will question if this should be happening but it is killing either the yeast, fungus or fungi. How if I could just get rid of the white tonuge... Unfortunately there isn't a definite cure, you will remain susceptible to problems, unless you manage your diet, health and hygiene. Colloidal Oatmeal & Mineral Oil (Remedy):

I had written a post about how olive oil temporarily relieved this nagging anal itch i've had for months. The olive oil didn't do anything long term but one day I decided to take a bath w/ all natural aveeno bath powder (can be bought at walmart, cvs, etc) and mineral oil (the laxative). This remedy is probably the most soothing for the itch. The Aveeno Bath powder has colloidal oatmeal which is great for skin irritation. The mineral oil works overtime as it stays on the skin after the bath. What I do is mix 4 table spoons of mineral oil w/ one packet of colloidal oatmeal powder into a warm bath. I usually let it soak for 1/2 hour. It takes a few days to truly feel the difference but I can say with confidence that my irritated tush is healed. On a side note, I no longer use regular toilet paper which was the culprit for causing the itch. I switched to moist wipes that contain no alcohol and has Aloe Vera and Vitamin E.

The most common cause of anal itch (Pruritus Ani) is the continual rubbing and irritation of the sensitive skin with toilet paper. The simple solution is to clean with water, not soap, and the most efficient way to do that is with a Hand Bidet Sprayer. It will go away and stay away. See www.bathroomsprayers.com

Nuts definitely cause it. I just started a workout program that advised nuts for protein. I've been eating almonds like crazy. Then I started getting the itch! I can stop taking them and the problem goes away. I think I can also get used to it after eating them for awhile?

I thought maybe there were little undigested pieces of the almonds causing the problem, but who knows maybe there is some kind of reaction.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

Suffering from anal itch. For the past four months I have been suffering from this nagging itch that I can't get rid of no matter what I try. I have made significant changes in my diet (no more sugar, very little caffeine), tried every medication, it even got to the point where I used a suppository because my rectum was itching. I no longer wipe the area, instead I use alcohol free wipes and pat the area. Nothing has worked. I have been to my physician twice and he prescribed two different topical creams that haven't worked. I find myself going on the internet on a daily basis to get rid of this, and had to leave work early this week b/c of the itch. My doctor and I have ruled out pinworms, anal fissures and hemoroids. I personally think its just broken skin that has been irritated further from all the creams and medicine i have been putting on it. The past few days I have been applying refrigerated extra virgin olive oil to the area. It has a soothing feel to it and the itch goes away for a little while. The olive oil seems to absorb very quickly so it doesn't feel greasy. We shall see what happens, but I refuse to get back on medications for this because they only seemed to make it worse.

I had an awful anal itch around the age of 50 and at that same age I found out that I had colon polps. After I had a colonoscopy and had 2 polyps removed, I never had another anal itch. It may be just a coincidence or the polyps may have caused the itch somehow. Anyway, if you have reached age 50 or over or if colon polyps run in your family, you may need to get a colonoscopy at a younger age, if you are younger than 50.When I had the anal itch it was constant and I didn't have hemrhoids either. Good luck. I hope you can get the cause of the itch figured out.

Hi there- glad to see that you have overcome candida, my question to you is next:

What kind of doctor did you go see? What kind of medications/doses were you prescribed? I am struggling with candida and have tried numerous natural products. Please let me know asap. I would appreciate your response.

Don't take medications, they don't work... Stay natural... No sugar... Eat raw garlic and other foods that destroy the candidas. It will take time three months to a year. You have to stick to a green diet. And stay away from sugar , sugar will kill you... There is a list of foods you can eat. Look them up in the internet.. Do the candida test... Good luck
