I've discovered this also works for hiccups:

1. Sit down on ground.
2. Put your head between your knees.
3. Hold breath for as long as you can.

How to cure hiccups 95% of the time. Vinegar, it doesn't matter what kind. The trick is to find the most sour thing you can. Make sure you take a good amount. 1 spoonfull is all you need. If you make a face when taking it, then it will work. Lemon juice, lime juice or anything super sour will work. It's weird because you expect the next hiccup to come and it never does. Guaranteed to work or your money back. lol

Let me give you my cure for hiccups. I have been using this method for years and have never had it fail to work. Before I found this cure I would sometimes get the hiccups and it would last for hours. I use regular white sugar. Use 1 heaping teaspoon but the key is how you do it. You have to hold your breath and then dump the sugar down your throat all at one time and swallow it and keep on holding your breath for as long as possible. It will not work if you don't hold your breath. It really does work. I know this is a problem for a lot of people so, good luck!

Yes, this is a great remedy for hiccups and my mom used to give this to us kids growing up. One teaspoon always did the trick. I never heard before that there was a special way to take this, but I do know that eating that whole teaspoon of white sugar never failed. Honey would be more nutritious than white sugar, but I don't know if honey would work for hiccups.

Hi, the cure I use for hiccups is put a stainless steel knife in a glass of water. Drink the water with the handle of the knife touching your temple. In a few minutes your hiccups will be gone.

Hiccup Remedy:

Hold your breath for as long as you can whilst pinching your right ear hard all the time.

I laughed when I was told this but I tried it and wow, same reaction from everyone I tell but they try it and it's never failed yet. I recall the pinching of the ear releases chemicals, sounds nuts, try it.

I just came on to post this remedy. altho mine is slightly different. when i had bad hiccups in my young teens, for some reason, i grabbed the brown sugar and a glass of boiling water. i musta added 2 good heaping tablespoons. after a few sips, the hiccups were gone. i did this alot in my younger years, but as i got older, either i had no access to brown sugar, or didn't bother as they did go away on their own. but today was wicked. they were bad. so i tried the brown sugar/boiling water again, and it wasn't as effective. the only thing i could figure was, i only used a small amt of sugar. i developed an intolerance to sugar, and very wary of it. it did subside and eventually go away, but not as quick as in my younger days.

years ago i also tried it with white sugar, and it worked, just not as well as brown.

Rub your right earlobe between your thumb and forefinger as soon as hiccups begin. This has worked for myself, my son, and a variety of others I have told.

As an adult, I've found myself getting hiccups more often than I used to (once every week or two), especially over the last 3-4 years.

Whenever I get the hiccups, my boyfriend is there for me with the sugar because it really, really works.

When swallowing the sugar, I try to make sure it goes to the back of my throat so I can swallow it rather than just eating it. Otherwise, it doesn't work as well. As a previous YEA responder said, you should make sure you swallow the sugar at once or it may take a 2nd packet/spoonful or not work at all.

I've never had a bout of hiccups last past 2 packets of sugar since I found this remedy a few years back, and will carry sugar with me wherever I go for the rest of my life.

Wonderful cheap, fast remedy!

I had hiccups for two days with my only relief coming when I was asleep. I found the remedy on this site and decided to give it a try, especially since the remedy for tonsilitis worked so well. I took a tbsp of ACV and the effect was immediate relief! The hiccups were gone upon ingestion! Amazing!

My husband is undergoing chemotherapy right now for large Bcell lymphoma. He experiences hiccups after he eats which started right after his first treatment. He doesn't eat fast or gulp air when he eats so we ruled that out. Seems to be a common experience as we read on the internet. We found that a teaspoon of sugar really works! Once he took it the hiccups stopped immediately. Hope other cancer patients read this.

Sugar

Hi there, If the tsp. of sugar stops working for your husband's hiccups, you might try something I remember a doctor telling me about years ago. He said he was involved in caring for a patient severely injured in an automobile accident. One day the man's brother came to visit and asked how he was doing. They told him the patient seemed to be doing ok at the present but they were unable to stop his constant hiccupping. He said the brother replied, "I can fix that" and left, returning with a sweet potato which he cut in half and placed the cut side of 1/2 of the potato over the patient's navel. According to the doctor, the patient's hiccups stopped instantly and they threatened anyone who dared to move that 1/2 sweet potato from his umbilical area with mayhem.

Stage Fright

As a teacher, I have had many opportunities to try to cure the hiccups in my students. When a student asked to go get water to stop their hiccups, I would ask for the class's help in 'curing' the patient. I asked the hiccupping student to stand in front of the class and if they hiccupped, they could go get water. The result: stage fright cured them every time.

Drink Upside Down

I am 56 years old and my grandmother taught me to drink water upside down. It works 100% of the time. As previous posts mentioned you must drink with your upper lip on the rim and drink while bending over and sucking air at the same time. It's weird sounding until you finally figure out that it works every time.

I learned this trick when I was 14. I suffer from very frequent and VERY painful hiccups. I just fill my mouth with as much water as it will hold, bend completely over at the waist, and then swallow. Usually I have to do this 3 or 4 times right in a row but it always works! ! !

Yea! Hello everybody from our wonderful earth clinic community! It seem to be that the action of swallowing while the diaphragm is compressed and not moving with our breathing stop hiccup after 2 to 5 swallows. Even when I don't have water handy , I just take a deep breath block it , bend and swallow a bit of saliva a few time without breathing and the diaphragm go back to behave normally: no more hiccup! Peace!

I was a bartender too. You're right about the lemons. I would take just one lemon wedge, give it a quick suck, and hiccups....GONE! It took some talking to get my customers to try it, but once they did....they were amazed!

Honey

after one week of hiccups the cure has been a level teaspoon of honey which stops the undesirable effect after two to three minutes, overall condition improving. Tried most of the above cures but to no good effect.

Peanut Butter

My husband had an epidural shot done and the next day he had the hiccups which continued for 4 days and we became alarmed and called the doctor. The doctor said it was nothing to be concerned about and just to deal with it basically. Well his chest was starting to hurt real bad from the constant hiccuping so I started to research remedies for this. I am just AMAZED that a teaspoon of peanut butter did the trick! Wish I would have researched sooner but he is happy they are gone!
