Kathi's Hay Fever Salad Dressing

Faced with sudden and strong symptoms from tree pollen yesterday (sneezing, itchy throat, itchy eyes), I tried a concoction based on several of the currently posted hay fever remedies. The concoction includes turmeric, local honey, ACV, and olive oil. I had no problem with bad taste from the turmeric since it was mixed with honey. Two shots of this about 3 hours apart, and I had no need to resort to my backup OTC that makes me feel drowsy and drugged. Have taken two more shots today, one added to my lunch salad as a dressing! I'm so glad to be able to stay "clear headed" in this spring allergy season!

The recipe is:

~ 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
~1 TBSP local-sourced honey
~1 TBSP Olive Oil
~1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar
~1 TBSP water

Mix in jar with lid by shaking vigorously, or use a whisk (I love my battery operated milk frother for tasks like this).

I agree, but I always use a straw to drink my ACV because I hear it can be very hard on your tooth enamel. With a straw, I bypass it getting on my teeth. If my throat is irritated from allergies, etc., if my ACV is too strong though, it can make me choke so I dilute mine quite a bit. At least 8 oz of water per 1 tbsp ACV. I always use the best ACV I can get with "mother" on the bottle. I only buy it if it's in a glass container also.

Ginger and Chamomile Tea

Ginger with Chamomile tea really really really works!!! It cured my Hay Fever.

Before Earth Clinic I had chronic sinusitis for over 6 years, I used 2 types of OTC nasal sprays every single day for 6 years. I was a very miserable person by then. Last Year I found Earth Clinic (lucky me) and started using ACV and was able to stop using the nasal sprays for a few days (a remarkable achievement I felt at that time). I then started oil pulling with sesame seed oil, something extraordinary happened; after 3 days of oil pulling, the symptom got worst, I had the worst sinus congestion ever, it felt like my body was going to give up. I had to resort using the nasal spray again..I was very disappointed but the next day my sinus was cleared, I continued OP and with the help of ACV I managed to stop my nasal sprays addiction completely -- I remembered vividly I visited a park after that and for the first time after 6 years I was able to breath freely and experienced the raw smell in the air.

Months passed and life without nasal sprays was indeed wonderful, (still got mild sinus congestion from time to time) doing OP daily helped me going through winter months, until beginning of this summer when all those big trees started flowering, I get very bad sinus congestion again. I had for weeks bad allergic and congestion, itching eyes with unpleasant discharges. Hay Fever ..I read Earth Clinic every possible cures ..I tried ACV, Turmeric, Olive leaves extracts, Castor oil pack, Garlic, snorting Cayenne pepper, Noti Pot ..none of them worked for me even Oil Pulling did not help. I started using nasal spray everyday again otherwise I could not sleep or do any activities, but the spray has actually worsened the congestion and the relief period got shorter .

I then read on latest posts about green tea and ginger root (I read Earth Clinic latest posts everyday), I didn't have green tea at home but I had chamomile tea bags. So I cut very thin slices of ginger (about 8 to 10 slices) in a cup with one chamomile tea bag, add water and micro waved it for a minute or two, and started snipping it that evening, added water reheated it in microwave again when it was not hot enough or empty ..it did not give immediate relief of course, but I realised that the pressure on the nasals eased a little. The next day I did the same. On 3rd day something miracle happened, it started to cleared that morning my sinuses.clearing steadily..eyes stopped itching and no unpleasant discharge. 36 hours on the ginger/ chamomile tea, I stopped using the nasal spray. It is now 25 days since I last used the spray and no signs of Hay Fever. 6 - 7 years of Hay Fever was gone, you can imagine how happy I am now. Yes I am still drinking yummy chamomile and ginger tea everyday.

A lady at work got bad hay fever, recommended her to try it, one dose (yes just one cup 7 days ago) cured her Hay Fever completely, 7 days since she has not got any symptoms. (Magic!! 2 yes posts for Earth Clinic)

I was once told by medical professional there was no cure for Hay Fever, now I believe there is always a cure for everything.

Before I started on the ginger / chamomile tea remedy, I was determined to go "cold turkey" on the nasal spray (Yes Nasal Sprays can be addictive). In order to get temporary relief, I microwave some ACV in a cup, inhaled the ACV steam, it immediately cleared the nose but as soon as I stopped, the nose was blocked again, but it at least provided temporary relief. I also tried chewing piece of ginger, but unfortunately it did not work for me. How strange a combination of ginger and chamomile tea can work miracle.

Caution -- first few days on the tea I had a mild detox experience, loose motion, rash, and headache.

Unexpected benefits -- clean and soft skin, hair seems to grow faster

To earth clinic -- ginger and chamomile tea remedy was not listed on any of the sinus/ allergic /congestion cures, but if search under ginger cure you will get lots of cured allergic postings, it is possible to add ginger/chamomile tea as one of the cure on the Allergic page? I could not and therefore would not be able to know about this cure until I read it on latest posting pages. just a suggestion and Thank You Earth Clinic and Thank You all those who put in their efforts posting their remedies and experience.

EC: We searched but could not find any other ginger and chamomile tea posts on the site! If you know where they are, please let us know and we'll cross post it to the allergy remedies page. Thank you!

I have been to many doctors but none could help me until one day an assistant in a health store recommended: quercetin and Vitamin C. After just 3 days my sore throat, which I had continuosly for a year disappeared, along with hay fever!

500 mg of quercetin once daily

1400 mg of Vitamin C once daily

I have serious allergies to dust and mold. Also to seasonal allergens I get a lot of post nasal drip and consequent clearing the throat and congestion. I found out about nettle and have been taking the capsules every day for quite a while now. If I have a lot of drainage or congestion, I take a capsule and within 15-20 min it's all gone! No more hacking! It works better than OTC allergy pills. I can't live without it! The only issue is that I have to take it all the time but it really does work well.

Baking soda for Hay Fever:

It works for me and my friends. I am over 65.

1/2 teaspoon baking soda, in 4 oz of water. Results can be seen within 1/2 hr. It is more effective, last longer, cheaper than those non drowsy tablets.

Black seed oil (nigella sativa) 1 tsp 2x a day - will resolve the mucous, throat clearing issue - it did for me with my allergies. It tastes icky, but I chase it with juice or water. Get it at the vitamin shop. Great, safe stuff. If used, 2 days of nose blowing will precede the relief.

I've had hayfever for 35 years and have tried every box of pills on the chemist's shelves, some worked and some didn't. After reading this wonderful site I had started taking Turmeric 3 times a day to heal a great big boil I had (half a teaspoon in warm milk)I have to be honest and say it tastes REALLY BAD but so what just get it down! To my surprise I noticed that I stopped waking up in the night with a runny nose and during the day no sneezing etc. For the first time in 35 years I have been free of hayfever all summer thanks to Turmeric 3 times a day, many thanks Earthclinic

Yes, I agree. It's the organic ACV with the mother which is usually cloudy in appearance, contains more nutrients. I have been taking two tablespoons diluted in a glass of water three times a day with cayenne pepper (couple of pinches), followed by a couple of spoons of honey (even better if it is local) three times a day. I prefer to take the honey raw rather than trying to dilute it, as it leaves a coating in the back of your throat, and you lose the nutrition value when it is heated. So far it is working after 20 years of suffering. But there is still time yet before the season ends.

Hi everyone, I'm another fan of turmeric! I started taking turmeric about two weeks ago for my acne, after I had tried strong antibiotics and salicylic acid in the past. I had large pimples on my face and back and often painful boils that lingered on for days. I'm delighted to say that my skin has cleared up completely- it's the first time I 've seen it like this in years!

I also read how turmeric cures allergies and hayfever and recommended it to my boyfriend and my housemate, who both suffer from hayfever. At first they didn't even want to hear about it, but now - guess what- they swear by it! It works for both of them and they've stopped taking their hayfever/ anti-histamine medicines.
It does taste horrible though and after trial and error, the three of us are using the following recipe:

1 teaspoon turmeric diluted in 2 teaspoons olive oil (or whatever oil you want) and some warm water. Mix well and top up the glass with any kind of fruit juice. Drink with a straw.

This recipe makes drinking it a lot easier; we tried water and warm milk but it just won't go down- do give this a try, it makes the taste bearable.

I drink this every morning before breakfast for my skin and it works wonders! I see that there's no need for me to take more, so I just don't. However, with hayfever it's a different story. The other two people drink as much as they need throughout the day; my boyfriend is usually ok with 1-2 glasses per day, but my housemate needs more.

I think you just have to experiment until you find out what dosage works best for your particular needs. It definitely works though! Thank you so much Earth Clinic!!!

Raw Apple Cider w/water 16oz 4-5 times day for 6 months. Half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Before meals and at bedtime. This concoction cured Hay fever I suffered from for 30 years, also acid reflux. My urine is mostly clear. No symptoms of allergies even if I miss weeks of the tonic and drink only clean water instead. No Acne break outs. Everyone can save so much money that they would spend on allergy pills if they would do this simple and cheap method.

MSM

This last few weeks have been the worst for pollen in our area that I've known and so many people are suffering with the sneezing and itchy nose/eyes/mouth...it's seriously driven me crazy. I was reduced to going to the pharmacy and getting Telfast for the sneezing (should have read earthclinic first lol) which I was relieved of but the itchy eyes continued and it became embarrassing to go to work with one red, swollen, watery eye so I went and got the anti-itch eye drops (again silly me! ) - they didn't really work at all and I was wondering how long I'd be left with this horrid ailment! So going through the kitchen cupboards one day recently, I came across a big bag of MSM that I'd purchased last year for terrible skin on my hands, I decided to start taking it again and voila!! Within the first 24 hours, the itch in my eyes had COMPLETELY disappeared! The pollen is still coming thick and fast from the trees up on the hill as it's all over everyone's cars and windows etc but I am no longer affected by it and can only put it down to the fabulous MSM, which by the way, is also making my hands look and feel soooo smooth once again. Might not work for everyone, but worth a try folks.

Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation

I did not find much remedies here for hay fever. I was suffering from hay fever badly this year from bush fire, climate changing to spring and a lot of people around me getting viral and bacterial infection. With the hay fever I started sneezing every so often that my lower back pain was triggered by it, my nose, eyes and throat itch and my nose got so sore from constantly blowing my nose from all the sneezes I tried antihistamine but it only made me very sluggish so I only took it once and stopped. I decided to try one of those supermarket's herbal supplement for hay fever and still no relief. The last stroke was I started coughing and I didn't lke the sound of that as my workmate just got worse from flu infections. I was constantly gargling with ACV before drinking it and it soothes my itchy throat and gargling with Hydrogen peroxide also helps get out the phlegm.

Anyway as a last resort and fear of the cough worsening I decided to give the hydrogen peroxide inhalation a try. I have previously tried it but can't seem to work it out properly without wanting to gag. Anyway as soon as I spray it directly into my throat, within minutes I stopped coughing. It was after an hour or so that I realized it also took care of my hay fever symptoms. My nose and eyes stop itching and I stop sneezing which was a huge relief. I immediately felt much better and not sluggish. God is good.. All of nature's problem can be remedied by natural healing provided for free.. Or at least cheaply by our heavenly Father. It is good to do the inhalation every hour or so initially and then I only do it now as needed specially when the air is getting smoky around here from all the bush fire.

I've been taking 2 teaspoons of Cider vinegar 3 times a day for my hayfever and I am amazed to say that I am almost symptom free, I now do not take anything else but the unpasteurized cider vinegar... I managed to get hold of some unprocessed honey and took that with the vinegar but the next day I sneezed really badly and my eyes were itching! so I stopped taking the honey and so did my symptoms.

I cut up cloves like the size of pills, and took them with water. I did this treatment at night so I could go through the next day without being bothered with hay fever.

I have been having the worst hayfever for the past few years with no way to curing it until I did some reaserch on the benefits on quail eggs. I have been eating raw quail eggs for only a couple of days and I am already noticing the improvement! Quail egg has been scientifically proven to cure around 5000 problems in the body, so I'd love quail egg on the list for more people to reap the benefits.

Dear Patrice,

Mmsg has great suggestions!

We also found nettle leaf and quercetin to be very helpful for my son with hay fever symptoms.

An adult dose would be 4 nettle leaf capsules 3 times a day. At the same time take 1 one capsules of quercetin. My son did this for a year (he took less as he was a child) and it actually seemed to heal his hay fever and improve his constitution. Many days he only needed the dose twice and would take the third dose mid-day if he had symptoms.

Patrice, I can't speak to the wheat, but the cheese is a slow process, and you have to quit all the dairy, the ice cream, cheese, milk, cottage cheese etc. 15yrs back, I cut all the dairy, and it took 90 days to show a retreat in my symptoms. The body reaches a saturation point and BAM you're done for til you figure it out and cut out the dairy. Today, I consume dairy, but at a reduced rate and do not over do it, and my allergic symptoms are only in the spring. Just wanted to make it clear, a halfhearted or insufficient cut back in dairy will not produce good results.

Kathi's Hay Fever Salad Dressing

Nearly forgot that I posted the hay fever salad dressing last year. Time to use it again!

Wanted to share one new observation as well: I have made a connection between my long standing hay fever (which is not so bad as when I younger--since I cleaned up my diet--gluten-free, only cultured dairy etc) and food sensitivities! During hay fever season, if I eat apples or peanuts (major foodstuffs of my childhood), itchy sinus/sneezing hayfever symptoms set in after just a few minutes. I looked up some research about this and it turns out that there are apple allergens that closely resemble tree pollens. so...a second suggestion to hayfever sufferers beyond using my hayfever-busting salad dressing recipe would be to be extra careful with your diet.

Turmeric

I vote "yea" for Turmeric as a cure for allergies:

I suffered from hayfever type allergies seemingly constantly since we moved to our new house in Jan of '07. During that summer, my symptoms were so severe I couldn't be outside for 5 minutes without having a severe hayfever attack. I took OTC meds daily but they were getting harder to buy as they all got moved behind the pharmacy counter, plus they took hours to start working.

I sought out earth clinic and wrote down my top 5 cures for allergies, thinking I would start trying them in the spring of '08. But in the Winter of '07 I rescued a rabbit that needed to eat hay twice a day. Of course I was allergic! I decided to try Turmeric as it was the cheapest remedy. I started taking 2 capsules a day (720 mg caps) in February '08. Within 5 days I noticed a great improvement. After a few months with this regime, I started noticing my allergies getting less severe and less frequent. After 4 months, my husband told me, "You don't have allergies anymore!"

Now, 7 full months later (and past pollen season), I am down to 1 capsule per day as maintenance, and take an extra one if I have congestion. I am so thankful for this simple cure! The world is open to me again: I can go outside without bringing a snot rag. I can brush my cats daily with no symptoms. I can clean the cat litter without having a reaction to the dust. I can feed my rabbit and not suffer. I was able to bring my feather bed back out of storage and use it with confidence cause I'm not allergic to it anymore! I do still have problems with mold when it rains, but just clogged sinuses not the severe reaction I used to get. An extra turmeric capsule and I'm fine. Gotta love it!
