Natural Treatments for Hair Loss in Women

Anti-Fungal Treatment

Hello Ted I have follicular alopecia (scarring alopecia) and have used so many types of products and have even gone to the dermo and nothing they gave me helped. My scalp would burn and hurt when I touch it and my hair would fall out not matter what I used. I recently sprayed intensive antifungal treatment on my scalp and shortly after it stopped hurting, I have been using this for a few days and notice that all systems are going away. I decided to use pure coconut oil as an oil base to keep it from drying, I will also buy some tea tree oil and lavender oil to help my scalp remain healthy.

Do you know how this actually worked on my scalp and why don't the doctors tell people to use this if this is what will make the alopecia go away? Did I just find a cure? Well it is working for me and I'm treating my entire scalp so the fungus will go away and not return. Please reply.

This is for alopecia/ hair loss: take an onion and either you grate it/put it in the blender or food processor--then you have the juice and "pulp"-

You will put the juice and pulp to your scalp in which ever way is easiest according to your hair length-cover it and keep it on for at least an hour and then either simply rinse it out or if your hair texture and condition can tolerate it--wash/condition as you normally do.

Do this every day for at least 2 weeks to a month---that's why I say to either simply rinse it out or use shampoo, all according to your hair's texture etc. MOST have seen regrowth within a month, then they do it a few times a week then once a month.

Now, punching hair loss remedies into the google search led me to this onion remedy and I wound up on youtube where there are many, many testimonies and their videos-this seems to be the easiest and most "economical" one around.

I am doing this for 5 days now AND seeing tiny new hairs in the areas previously without any as in my receeding hairline, crown and sides.

I have never tried any remedies before and I feel this one needs to go 'round and be tried for at least 2 weeks.

The problem was NOT the iodine. It was detox symptoms from taking too much iodine too soon. Iodine detoxes the body of bromides, fluorides & chlorine, as well as heavy metals. You must start iodine small3 months. You MUST also take companion supplements selenium, magnesium, vitamin C to avoid detox symptoms.

Mariam, it may not be the iodine that caused problems, but the form of the iodine supplement. High dosage in Iodorol is likely to throw other electolytes out of balance. Try correcting iodine deficiencies slowly with natural food supplements such as Kelp and Seaweed, which has many minerals as well as significant iodine. It is interesting that Iodorol caused hair loss (and is indeed a listed side effect) since their marketing describes it as correcting hair loss!

CLopez247 Your children's Fluoride intake levels must be to High. Have them tested for low Iodine levels. That is mostly the case with children with Alopecia. Avoid giving your kids toothpaste with Fluoride. Go to your local organic supermarket and purchase children's fluoride free toothpaste. Alopecia was stopped on my head with the use of Amla Juice and Ashwagandha. Amla juice is sold at some India stores but the Amla or Amla C and Ashwagandha can be bought at Sprouts, www.himalayausa.com and some online stores.

I was told by my doctor I had ZERO Vitamin D in my body and no protein uptake either as per my blood results. She even asked if I was vegeterian which I am not as my body was not uptaking protein which is what hair is made of and therefore I had Alopecia.

Googled what caused Vitamin D and protein to be blocked and found the sugar Splenda (yellow package of no calorie sugar) of which I consumed daily. People also wrote in that they had alot of itching on their head when they consumed Splenda. I stopped using Splenda.

I also used Hair, Skin & Nail Vitamins which can be bought at drug stores and vitamin stores. That helped my hair grow back in after about 6 months BUT it would NOT stay in as my hair fell out all over my head and my scalp was quite visible.

Then found AMLA and Ashwagandha and after 6 weeks of use it totally stopped my hair fallout.

Just google Amla or Amla C (it same product) and Ashwagandha and you will find lots of information on it. I also use NEEM which can be bought at same stores.

My hair has all grown back in and I continue to use Amla shampoo and hair products. You can also buy Amla Oil ( which has a very strong smell) and Amla powder. Just mix the powder with water and apply to hair/head. It will tighten the hair follicles. The Amla tablets and juice I consumed.

Hope this helps others.

Hi,

I have a bald spot the size of a nickel near the top of my ear. I really think it happened when I was hit very hard during a sporting event. This is the second time it has happened in the same spot during a 3 year period. I suffered a severe hit the first time as well. The bald spot varies in size during a 1 year period from the size of a dime to the size of a quarter. The bald spot does not irritate me in any way. I have medium to thick wavy hair. Please recommend a product or products that could help me because I do not want to have to wait more than a year for it to start growing again and I do not want to have any kind of injection - Per doctor's recommendation.

I noticed that Rene Furterer Shampoo was recommended. I want to purchase it but before I do I just wanted to know if this shampoo was the only product or was it combined with any other products?

Thanks,

Jay

For anyone in Canada who really wants to pursue getting a bottle or two of decolourized iodine (size and cost unknown), here is an excerpt not followed up by myself, of an April e-mail reply to a company in B. C. , Canada. It sounds like you should have a few pharmacy names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. picked out and handy to give to tell them where you will pick it up! :

We do not distribute a Decolourised Iodine, which you correctly refer to as being water white. For us to
bring in a bottle or two of the colourless iodine would make the cost to you prohibitive. If you want to pursue the matter I suggest you call 1-800-668-9453 and ask the customer service to refer you to a pharmacy in XXXXX who would either stock the product or who could bring it in for you.

To Kathy from Naperville, Il. . No, I have not been diagnosed with any disease. I experienced a huge amount of stress during the first half of 2009 and most of my hair turned white or grey during that summer. I started losing hair at the top of my head(in typical male pattern baldness) in October 2009 and would have a comb full of hair every few days. I was 64 years old at this time. I was aware of these nutrients for hair health from various reading over the last 20 or so years and so I decided that it was worth a try. I knew it has worked for some people so I thought it might work for me. I started this specific set of nutrients in late October 2009 and my hair loss stopped almost instantly. I knew therefore I was on the right track and continued this daily for about 3 weeks. I then dropped the dosage slightly and continued. By mid December I could see that all of the remaining grey or white hair was showing my natural brown color about a half inch at the root end and the previous bald area was covered with brown fuzz. I have continued taking these nutrients but have reduced the dosage further. My hair continues to grow in my natural brown color at about a half inch per month. I am experimenting with finding the dosage for maintence even now as a few weeks ago I started seeing( for the first time since I started this) that there are now a few hairs in my comb each day. Between November and May I never saw hairs left in my comb. The journey continues.

Iodine

To stop hair loss and start regrowth follow the following protocol:

3 times a day with meals for the first 2 weeks:
Biotin 10,000 mcg(this is a "megadose" level -comes in 5,000 mcg caps)
vegital silica(this is the organic variety(not inorganic silica) 9.4 mg(comes in 4.7 mg caps)
chelated zinc(must be chelated form)100 mg(comes in 50 mg tabs).

After first 2 weeks, continue same dosage twice a day until satisfied with hair growth and optimal health/nutrition is being met.(Biotin is a B vitamin and as such, continuing high stress can increase your regular B vitamin requirements substantially)

Any hair loss will stop immediately and growth with start. Top of head hair grows an average of 1/2 inch per month so you will not see any "fuzz" until about 3 weeks from start.

This is what worked for me as a 64 yr old male that had sudden hair loss last fall where hair was coming out by the handfull for a couple of weeks.
By adding the zinc to the other 2 items, my hair came back in with my natural hair colour rather than the grey/white mix that had been falling out.

You can do further research and will see both the biotin and vegital silica as very well regarded for their benificial properties for hair.

I could find a distribitor in the city. Just type in your area and state and you will find many options. The product is expenisve but I did a walk-in consultation at a salon which sold the product. They were very patient and advised me on a treatment plan. The product is expensive but I am happy to report that it has now been 3 weeks and I already have new growth - amazing. As a result I have alrady changes my hair style. I have to continue this treatment (pre-shampoo, shampoo, conditioner, serum daily use moisurizer and vitamins) for 3 months. I will report on whether the growth has continued - so far so good. My hair is also very soft and not greasy. Thank you very much Alicia from Las Vegas - if you did not write this post I would never have heard about this product. I do not know whether you did a consultation at a salon but I found that very helpful in guiding me to using the right product for my particular condition.

Dear K: You are asking for trouble by using hydrogen peroxide and iodide solution. If a 35% H2O2 is added to iodide a somewhat explosive reaction, but if a 3% H2O2 is added to iodine solution, the solution will still remain brown and being colorless takes place very slowly.

The solution if you are not careful will cause some burning to the skin where a regular iodine won't.

The problem about all this is it will also inhibit the body's ability to absorb iodine too.

Therefore, use the regular iodine foot painting. Here is an abstract on iodine and hydrogen peroxide uptake issue. In so many words, a hydrogen peroxide will inhibit the uptake of the iodine or limits your body's absorption of iodine, which of course won't help you.

1: Thyroid. 1991 Summer;1(3):267-71.

Hydrogen peroxide inhibits iodide uptake and iodine organification in cultured porcine thyroid follicles.

Fukayama H, Murakami S, Nasu M, Sugawara M.
Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Wadsworth VA Hospital, Los Angeles, California.

We investigated the effect of hydrogen peroxide on the process of thyroid hormone formation in a physiologic culture system of porcine thyroid follicles that we recently established. Porcine thyroid follicles cultured in medium containing 1 mU/mL TSH were exposed to 0 to 500 microM hydrogen peroxide in the presence of 0.1 microCi carrier-free Na125 and sodium iodide for 2 h. Iodide uptake and iodine organification were measured in this incubation system. The kinetics of iodide uptake were used to explain the action of hydrogen peroxide. In addition, cAMP content and Na ,K( )-ATPase activity (an enzyme necessary for iodide uptake) were measured to investigate the mechanism of hydrogen peroxide action. Hydrogen peroxide at concentrations of 100, 200, and 500 microM inhibited iodide uptake in a dose-dependent manner. Iodide organification was inhibited only when the concentration of hydrogen peroxide was greater than 200 microM. The kinetics of iodide uptake indicated that hydrogen peroxide was a noncompetitive inhibitor with iodide. Inhibition of iodide uptake and iodine organification by hydrogen peroxide were not mediated by alteration of cAMP content of Na ,K( )-ATPase activity, since exposure to even 500 microM hydrogen peroxide did not change these parameters in the follicle when compared with those of control samples. Our results suggest that the iodide transport system in the thyroid follicle is inhibited at 200 microM hydrogen peroxide or greater. -----

Therefore a preferred iodine is iodine trichloride (a light yellow color) or a sodium iodide, both of which are more or less colorless.

Your best bet is to use Povidone Iodide (Betadine is its commerical name), if you cannot find colorless iodine.

Alopecia Areata is bald spots that occur all of a sudden on your scalp. I dab it on once a day on bald spots for a week to a fortnight - and then forget about it (if I can) and hope:) So far it seems to start the growth of hair again. It changes the scalp texture from red and irritable back to normal scalp. Within 6 weeks to 8 weeks usually spot is covering with little hairs. The iodine may even help the fatigue that comes when your hair falls out too - when a bald spot is occurring I tend to get deathly pale and feel exhausted.

I noticed that a balding part of my scalp rejuvenated and hair started to grow !! after 6 months I started to let my hair grow without cutting it, I now sport hair beyond shoulder length, something which I couldn't do since my hair was very fine and scanty !! ( I also take apple cider vinegar half a teaspoon daily with honey) My sister and brother also tried it, we noticed that facial skin became more youthful !! due to the blood circulation?

Since I posted my comments several months ago regarding the use of Iodine for my wife's allopecia, I've had several inquiries about the particulars of my wife's treatment. I believe the majority of allopecia problems are internal, not external, so I would highly recommend an Iodine deficiency test if you indeed suffer from this. Many doctors are familiar with this test, but if you go to Dr. Mercola's website at Mercola.com and type "iodine deficiency" in the search box, he will give directions on how to easily and inexpensively do the test yourself. "Fluoride displaces iodine. So you need the more iodine to perform the same function. Hence Carton's comment in the Fluoride Journal. This is an example of why I included "noticeable hair loss" as a symptom in the relatively early stages of chronic fluoride poisoning.

My wife unexpectedly had all the hairs in her eyebrows fall out over a period of several weeks. There was no apparent cause but we suspected stress had something to do with it. They did eventually grow back, but were very thin and the follicles were still weak. It wasn't until almost a year later that a wonderful holistic doctor tested her and found her iodine deficient. She was put on an iodine pill, her energy levels came way up, the her eyebrows are as thick as ever. Kelp tablets would probably do the trick too, as they are high in iodine.

re: Alopecia -- Hello, On and off seemingly during high stress times (exam time when I was in university, during heavy work load times at my job) my scalp becomes irritated, red and inflamed. Bald patches start forming and the scalp is very soft in those areas. I have tried many different types of herbal solutions. I have tried apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil with lavender oil, hydrogen peroxide, taking a spoon of baking soda twice a day etc. All seemed to help slightly. The tea tree oil was probably the most effective. However, because I've suffered from this many times in the past I feel I should let people know that the only thing that really 100% worked for me was not herbal. It required a trip to my doctor and a prescription for minocin (an antibiotic). It's very cheap and worth it. Within a week the irritation, redness, inflammation disappeared. Within a month the bald patches had also filled in. I would recommend anyone with this problem visit their doctor and ask about an antibiotic. It will save you a lot of pain and stress. Good luck.

Dear Earth Clinic, I just wanted to let you know that I think on Ted's Posts it should say in bold at the beginning, or where it can't be missed to read the recipes carefully. I had a small bald spot on my head, found this website, and read some things Ted wrote. I read something about hydrogen peroxide and acv for scalp problems and hair loss. It did not say how much to use in the blurb I read. I thought I would try it. Well I just made a solution up and put it on my head. Left it on overnight. Well, Now I am loosing all my hair!!! So this was not a remedy in the little problem I had, instead, it is causing all my hair to fall out. I would like to spare future readers from this, so please put a warning, and make sure people read Ted's postings very carefully, and if they do not see a recipe, have them contact Ted before just making one up themselves. I know most people would be more careful, but there are us haphazard people out here you know. Thank you.
