Edema of the legs.

Third: Crushed vertebra.

The cordical is the cortex or the outer layer and is usually associated with the brain but can also relate to kidney. So the MRI showed the outer area of both kidneys is atrophying. Dangerous and potentially lethal as I'm sure the MDs have told you.

The Edema is the big clue that tells us the cause of the atrophy. I have a 91 year old pal who takes lots of nutritional stuff and has for 40 years. I went to see him in the assisted care facility and there he was ... laid up with special wrappings around his legs... legs lifted; Edema.

What is going on, I asked him. With all the great nutritionals you swallow why should you have a circulation problem? And after talking to him, that was just about the only problem he had. His mind is still sharp; he looks good (outnumbered 7 to 1 female to male residents he is the center of attention at the Saturday night "events" there at the Facility).

But I digress.

I insisted on reviewing his nutrient inventory. Mercy. He takes more pills than I do, and I take 40 or so a day.

HOWEVER, the one I was looking for, and there were some exotic ones in his "box" was missing.

What, dear reader, will facilitate the blood's circulation more than any other?

What is the greatest cause of Edema? Circulatory insufficiency. And as to the previous question...what will facilitate blood circulation, and vein and arterial dilation, and elimination of inflammation that can restrict circulation and even plaque removal which certainly will cause Edema...

I am sure the astute reader and you, Robert Henry, know the answer to this question. But do you know what? My old friend, the one in the nursing home was not, I say NOT taking that fundamental...absolutely bottom line essential vitamin. And literally, within 10 days of adding that ONE nutrient to his regimen he was nearly Edema free.

And...and...watch this: Lack of blood flow as evidenced by the Edema MIGHT also be the cause of the atrophying kidneys. May Be....

THE KEY is NATURAL VITAMIN E....Lack of proper circulation is killing you. It can only help in your recovery of the vertebra. If surgery, E can help the healing.

The Doctors "Shute"... brothers... and Canadian physicians back in the 50s were talking about Edema and Vitamin E. Circulation and Vitamin E. Clot removal and Vitamin E.

If this were me, I'd start with 200 IUs daily of Natural E (d alpha tocopherol, and not the dl form which is synthetic). After a few weeks, increase to 400 IUs, and two weeks later same increase and two weeks later same increase. I take 1000 IUs daily and have for ... oh, 30 years or so. And make sure your are taking Magnesium and Arginine. 500 mg of each. (I take 5 thousand mg of Arginine.) Some folks, if facing big circulatory problems will take DMSO cream and mix in Vitamin E and apply topically to the effected areas; goes straight to the site, through the skin. And some folks, if the problem is not resolved, will increase the oral dosage to 2000 IUs.

Robert Henry, you are REALLY smart. Now, try to think of anything else to improve circulation, because (re the kidney) whatever the cause is (Cysts?), the improved circulation on the outside of the Kidney (Cortex = Cortical) will benefit both that problem and the Edema.

Now as many nutrients as you do take, maybe you'll tell me you are taking 1, 000 natural Vitamin E. But if that is the case, then SOMETHING is stopping it from acting. Are you sure it is natural? REALLY synthetic (sure it's cheap) but it won't work. Magnesium? Enhances the E and so does Vitamin C and selenium. Robert Henry, think now; you've helped thousands. You can figure this out. Don't give up.

I figured out my swelling ankles and legs was caused by a combination of high blood pressure and hormone imbalance. Since I started going through menopause the problem got much worse. I found the combination of reducing salt intake, taking a supplement for the hormone imbalance which contains black cohosh and even taking straight black cohosh helps tremendously) and getting plenty of exercise has helped so much. The only time I really have the problem now is when I have the monthly monster . Good luck to you all!

Hi Mary...Since you only have edema in the right foot, then it is probably a local problem(not a body-wide problem) caused by a blockage in your lymph in the ankle region. So if you take bromelain (a protein digesting enzyme) 500 mgs outside mealtimes 3 time a day, this should help to remove the protein blockages in your right ankle and reduce the edema.

I would also take the Quantumin at 6 drops a day since this contains minerals and is also beneficially alkalizing for the body.

The 35 ml Quantumin bottle will last about 3 months.

YEP, RO WATER has all the minerals removed just like distilled water does. Our Anti-Aging doctor uses an RO SYSTEM because the Knoxville water has so many man made chemicals in it. She then has to supplement with minerals. We have well water and drink from an Alkaline Ionizer which gives us double the good minerals that is normally in the well water. I'm not that smart, but Google is. ======RH=======

Neck Edema Remedies

I recently started having problems with edema in my neck after the removal of the lymph nodes on both sides due to cancer. I'm sleeping with my head slightly elevated but when I wake my neck is still very swollen limiting my range of motion. The swelling goes down as the day progresses but only about half way of the waking state. What do you suggest?

Would someone from EC please comment on the safety of this recommendation?

i got all excited when I first read about Cream of Tartar, becoz I have awful leg spasms keeping me up at nite and have been noticing that im craving bananas which do seem to help. So, potassium imbalance?... it would be awesome to have a little bottle of CreamTartar on hand for those late nite moments when the legs are hopping & im out of bananas.

Then I did a little reading elsewhere and learned that Cream of Tartar is EXTREMELY high in Potassium... Maybe this is not something to be messed with after all? she recommends adding 1/4tsp in water to be sipped, but doesnt say whether she uses it all or how fast. Or in how much water. from my reading I saw that the kidneys must be in good shape for dealing with high levels of potassium, and that too much can cause unexpected death from heart failure.

How dangerous is this advice?? I don't think I would be comfortable trying cream of tartar without knowing its limit of safety, and I am having a hard time identifying exactly how much potassium Cream of Tartar actually contains... Online sources claim anywhere from 495mg per tsp- which is not so much- all the way up to 5 grams- which would obviously be toxic!

Reaally need some clarity, EC... Thx!

Ginger is good ant-inflammatory agent and will also soothe an upset stomach. If you are able to get access to fresh ginger, I think that you should use it instead. To make ginger tea, just peel and grate a small piece and boil with water. Add some honey to it.

Green tea and ginger are good separately. I think that you should experiment with how much ginger you can tolerate if you are adding to green tea. To me, powdered ginger tastes different and not as palatable as fresh.

How much powdered ginger should I use in my gunpowder green tea to ameliorate the massive all over body swelling which my doctors say is lymphatic obstruction. However, no salt, mostly veggies and fruit (raw) with brown rice or sweet potatoes and sometimes bits of chicken AND their lymph breaking massages have not helped. I should mention this started after several surgeries repairing head, brain, neck and shoulder injuries from an accident. I am now allergic to chemically based allopathic meds. I think their meds has caused this problem. They have me now on insulin, metformin, glyburide, and 25 mg of HCTZ daily with 300 mg of potassium. (I also developed diabetes during all this). Can someone please help me? I still have a young son to care for and teach... I am practically bedridden with the severe swelling and pain. Yes. Walking makes it worse. The doctors measured my body water content and found that I am "... At least 41 pounds of water over what you should be carrying. " I drink 2-4 quarts of water per day. Any less and I start holding even more! All heart, lung, kidney, and liver functions show healthy normal. HELP!

Cream of Tarter for Edema: Cream of Tarter is rich in potassium. Often edema is caused from not enough water intake (dehydration) or too much sodium and not enough potassium. Cream of Tarter, 1/4 t in a glass of water, sipped, will provide a hefty dose of potassium. For me I start to pee out the fluid within an hour.

Ankle swelling can be sign of glucose intolerance. Replacing carbohydrates with proteines and fat can reduce the edema dramatically. To find out whether you are Glucose intolerant, avoid eating anything requiring Insulin to digest for a couple of days. I.E., instead have a nice meat dish accompanied by a Greek style salad of various raw greens, mixed with tomatoes, topped with crumbled Feta cheese and sliced hard boiled egg, and plenty of Balsamic Vinegar and an equal amount of olive oil for energy. If the edema does not go down dramatically within those 2 days, discount Glucose intolerance as a cause.

Also, there is another dietary problem at work here, the severe lack of the micro-mineral Chromium. Chromium deficiency causes an Insulin insensitivity. The cells are trying to incorporate the Insulin so they can burn glucose, BUT the absence of Chromium won't allow this otherwise simple function. I don't know how, but the spice Cinnamon also very much helps the body burn sugars.

The amino acid Taurine helps cells utilize minerals (opens the ion gates).

For edema, it's not just sugar that needs avoiding, but all carbohydrates, in fact anything requiring Insulin to digest. What happens is that Insulin causes the kidneys to re-absorb salt and thus increases the water contents of the body. Historically humans were hunters and gatherers, they hunted the fattest animal they could find and they ate all of it, with very little else, ... And most importantly were able to live very healthy and energetic lives on that diet. Insulin was only needed for the little bit of fruits and vegetables they ate. Today's diet is the opposite from their's and some of us don't tolerate a mainly carbohydrate diet it all that well and end up diabetic and waterlogged, if not fat as well.

The upshot is, it takes only a few days on a NO-Carb diet and your waterlogged legs and feet will go back to normal. It's amazing to say the least.

My ob-gyn recently put me on a few heavy drugs to stop major menopausal bleeding. The drug - I believe - did weird things to my body although the bleeding stopped. One of the symptoms was swollen ankles and urine that was colorless for a few days. Swedish Bitters was recommended and a massage that concentrated on the internal organs which was amazing in itself. This morning, no swollen ankles, my urine was back to normal and I have more energy than the past few days.

Would not have believed it, but mine has been cured by taking red vine leaf extract which I happend on when buying my vits on line. Marvellous.

All edema went within 20 days, even on long haul flights (16 hours). Only side effect (possible but not proven as may be age) is my hands now more prone to bruise blood hematomas, but these disappear quickly.

For the past 5 years, I have lived with edema in my left leg. I tried everything from lympathic massage and acupunture to Western medicine ( diuretics and a salt free diet). Nothing worked. Then, I found diet that has almost completely cured the edema, which I hope will help others that are suffering. I limit my carbohydrates to a max of 30 grams a day: every meal consists of low carb vegtables, protein and fat. No starch, no sugar, (no fun! ), but the edema has radially reduced in the past 30 days. I also supplement with the herb cleavers twice a day. I was not a "believer" when I first heard about this working for my condition. Obviously, I now think differently. Hope this helps.

This is a truly amazing cure, drink two to three glasses of water. In each glass add a 1/4 teaspoon of Sea Salt. I'm sensitive so I used an 1/8 teaspoon of Sea Salt. My lower back was super swollen from Edema tried this method and within three hours all the swelling and pain was almost completely gone!

Start drinking more water, for example if you weigh 100 pound you drink 50 ounces of water. I would drink a couple extra glasses to be on the safe side.

I have had edema in my left calf, ankle, and foot for over 1 year. I had heart tests, kidney &. Liver tests and last week I had 6 different dooplers (sonograms) to check my veins and the blood flow. Every test was perfect. So I now will start with taking the Butcher's Broom to see if this will help with the swelling. I already started 3 weeks ago with drinking about 2 quarts of water a day. That reduced a little swelling, but the water helped a lot with making me feel good overall. Will report back in a few weeks.
