Effective Natural Remedies for Managing Diarrhea

Apple

An old fashioned cure for diarrhea is to peel an apple, throw away the peel, grate the flesh let it go brown, then eat. Especially good for children. The flesh takes on change which seems to cure the diarrhea. My passed mother in law told me this years ago and has always worked..

Coconut Macaroons

Eat 3-4 (small) coconut macaroon cookies after your first episode and that will stop your diarrhea. I keep some in my freezer and just eat them when I need to. Works better than Imodium or anything else.

Apple Cider Vinegar

My wife had a case of chronic diahhroeah. In the past, with loose or runny motions, one or two junket tablets, taken with a glass of water has done the trick. This time, not so lucky and after three days, went to the chemist - still nothing worked.

Finally at 5.30am this morning, remembered this site and had a look - apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons in a glass of water! My wife dislikes the taste of ACV, so I suggested she take it in a glass of flat lemonade. 15 minutes later - No diahhroeah. 10.30am had another dose and all seems fine.

Thank you Earth Clinic. Hope this helps someone else.

My mom's home remedy for diarrhea was to boil a cup of milk and drink it - no sugar. Hold your nose because it tastes awful. Let it cool down a bit first.

Diatomaceous Earth

I had problems with loose stools and the runs - I just took my food grade diatomaceous earth 1 tsp mixed in water 2x a day - and worked my way up to 1 tbsp in the am and within 2 weeks, problem completely resolved. This stuff has a constipation effect - which is great for the runs. I carry a small bag of this stuff when I travel overseas. Great stuff!

It doesn't even have to be dill pickles. I ate a few slices of bread and butter pickles and instantly the cramping in my stomach stopped and no more diarrhea!

Matchstick Remedy
Posted by Rw (Southwest Virginia) on 11/22/2015

I've not had the occasion to use this, but it was so intriguing I had to post it. If you Google "matchstick diarrhea Joepathy" you'll find more info on it, and the matchstick remedy is supposed to be good for other things. But here is what to do for diarrhea (and I haven't been able to tell if any matches will do or just the safety matches they have in Sri Lanka where Joe lives):

Take 2 Matches from a matchbox and light one.
Have the second match handy in your hand and light it from the first.
Dunk it immediately into a cup of water so that it will light and extinguish itself in the water.
Repeat the same process 3 times over with 3 sets of matches for best results.

Give the patient a teaspoonful from the water every hour or every time after a bowel movement.

I'd love to know if this works. Would be an easy thing to take on an international trip.

EC: Interesting testimonials and discussion about what is contained in a match head found on above-referenced site here.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Diarrhea

I make a tea out of the Apple Cider Vinegar. I put cloves, allspice and crushed cinnamon sticks in a cheese cloth and soak it in hot tea. After it cools I add the ACV and drink it.

I was in complete and total distress. I found myself the night before with food poisoning Im guessing. I have no idea what else could make me so violently ill. I felt fine when I went to bed...but woke about 11:30 pm with the most horrible pain in my stomach area which continued to get worse with each passing minute. Wound up with a succession of vomiting sessions within the next 6 hours. I had to be awake to call in to work at 6 am. I stayed homethat day and didnt really feel bad....but certainly not better rather puny and weak.

This morning, I got up to diarrhea of the watery kind. I knew I had to go to work no matter how I feel. They will fire you for more than 2 points on your attendence...and I already had 2 points....both due to a car problems. Next point would be termination. I sat here at my pc and found the info about diarrhea and the activated charcoal was what hit me as most important. I wound up at WalGreens Pharmacy this morning and found a bottle there. I took it just like someone I had read about this morning had taken it which was 2 capsules. I was so surprised that I didnt have any more bouts with diarrhea. I still didnt feel good and could hardly wait for 4 pm to roll around.

I am soooooo very grateful to Earth Clinic and all who put out there what worked best for them. If it hadnt been for this forum....I dunno where Id be. fired...maybe. Thank you again.

Have you ever tried eliminating gluten? I think it is the #1 cause for IBS.

My mom used to boil milk and make us drink it after it cools. It tastes awful and do not add sugar. Just hold your nose and drink it. It works like a charm!

I have no idea of the cause but I had terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. Tried several natural remedies and nothing worked. Ate several pieces of candied ginger, laid down to rest for a bit and all cramping and diarrhea ceased within 20 minutes. Amazing!

Ground Flaxseed

Was wondering if you are still taking the ground flaxseed for loose stools? My 82 year old mother is having severe issues in this area and am going to start her on this.

It worked!

Usually apple cider vinegar does the trick for me, but it wasn't working. The best Apple Cider Vinegar did was to space out my visits to the bathroom.

After over 12 hours experiencing completely liquid diarrhea, I saw this post and boiled 2 cups of whole milk, turned off the stove before it boiled over, waited to cool, remove the skin that formed and drank it.

Felt better right away and today I have no more problems. Thank you!

I'm wondering what the parasite cleanse was that was so effective?

Baking Soda for Upset Stomach:

1/4 teaspoon in 4 ounces water. Repeat once if that did not help. If that does not work, try another remedy, like peppermint tea.

Coke and Alka-Seltzer

Quick and easy cure for diarrhea, I don't know how it works but it does.

one coca cola, 2 regular alka selzters.

Pour coke in glass and add alka selzter; let it fizz. When fizzing stops, drink. Usually works instantly.

Apple Cider Vinegar worked for my husband's diarrhea too. He used to take Imodium whenever he had diarrhea but lately the drug can no longer cure it and he felt bloated. So I followed the advice of EC contributors and have him take 2 tablespoons of ACV mixed in 8 oz. water. It worked fast and he does not complain of stomach discomfort or diarrhea since then.

Cheese

I've had very watery diarrhea for three days, and tried several things - cider vinegar, activated charcoal, turmeric, rice water - with no success.

I read something in a book of mine which suggested cheese. This seemed kind of counterintuitive, I've not been eating in the hope that this would run its course, but figured I would give it a go. So I had some cheese, and I was kind of hungry so it was welcome, and a couple of hours later another piece.

Well, I now feel so much better, no more rushing to the toilet. Apparently it sort of binds things up - whatever the case, it's worked.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Diarrhea:

I agree with another writer who wrote this stuff is miraculous. It tastes bad, but the results are so amazing, I am happy to chug it.

I put 2T of apple cider vinegar--just the regular kind from my grocery store--into 6 ounces of water. I could feel the difference in about 15 minutes--this after four weeks of agony, and countless doses of probiotics, vomiting and diarrhea.

My guess is that I developed c. difficile colitis related to months of antibiotic use. Anyway, I could barely eat, I was miserable and nothing worked. This did. In spades. Today I have no symptoms.

Last night I drank 3 glasses of the mixture. Today I have sipped on one glass, throughout the day, not because I need it, only because I am in awe of it. This stuff is like some elixir of the gods. Whatever miraculous thing it did to my body, I'm all in. Thanks Earth Clinic .

Nutmeg

In my experience that much nutmeg is um, intoxicating. I would be careful with this one.
