Zinc

I was having persistant diarrhea for a week and researched that in developed countries, they would give zinc to children so that they don't die from the diarrhea.
I tried zinc gluconate 50mg and it stopped my diarrhea. Apparently zinc deficiencies make diarrhea worse.

Nutmeg

To stop diarrhea in adults, pour 1 teaspoon (for kids use 1/4 teaspoon) of ground nutmeg in a spoon. Fill a glass with at least 2 cups of water. Put the spoon of ground nutmeg into your mouth. Drink the glass of water and eat the teaspoon of nutmeg at the same time.
Wait two hours while drinking plenty of water. If you still have diarrhea at this point, eat another 1 teaspoon and 2 cups of water. If diarrhea persists then stop use and try something else.
This worked wonders when I was in grade school!
Ground Flaxseed

Just to update, this is still working. Not only has it completely changed my bowel movements from soft/watery and frequent to properly-formed and normal, it has also reduced the bad stomach pains I was suffering on a regular basis. This pain was especially bad in the weeks before my period and was put down to a mix of IBS and endometriosis. Either way, I have just had an almost pain-free month. I can't quite believe it, it's been so easy! Will carry on with the flaxseed and update this again in a few months to ensure that this hasn't just been a fluke. :)
Blueberries

Blueberries, especially dried blueberries, will stop diarrhea--if you want to stop it. Sometimes it might be a good idea to purge the offending... Whatever. But other times, if you are suffering travelers' diarrhea, an overdose of Vitamin C, or too much gourmet coffee (which can have 8x the caffeine of regular coffee) a serving of blueberry yogurt, or a blueberry muffin might set you right again.

I frequently get diarrhea, which has so far been put down to IBS. I often resorted to taking diarrhea pills, but felt I was taking them much too often, and was worried about long-term effects.
Then by chance, I found that whenever I ate boiled potatoes it cleared up quickly. If I make sure that I eat them with a meal every day then I suffer a lot less regularly.

I am an avid reader of this website and have found several very beneficial remedies. I was suffering through upset stomach, liquid stool, till I read about Black Tea and Apple Cider vinegar. I drink ACV regularly with water. I tried it with Earl Grey tea. Diariah stopped and it has been several hours now. I was able to eat a sandwich and didn't need to run to bathroom after wards. Despite minor cramps, I haven't felt the urge or queasy feeling ever since I took Black Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar.

Acv cured my upset stomach and diarrhea within 10-15 minutes. I had a couple bouts of borderline explosive diarrhea and felt queasy/weird afterwards. I took about 2 tablespoons of ACV in a cup of cool water and ice. I put a bit of honey in it too to help sweeten (though the water is so cold, it didnt really soak in...). I had a bit of a drinking night last night (whiskey and vodka primarily) and had coffee this morning from freshly roasted beans. Needless to say, that kind of ended badly. Thank god ACV was there to save me.. ! This stuff is great. Be sure to use a straw and make sure you get the straw deep into your mouth so you dont hit your teeth with the vinegar. It's not great for your chompers. The kind of ACV I used was not organic with mother (if you dont know what that means, look it up because it's good to know) and was just taken from the grocery store. I havent tried organic mother ACV yet, but its supposed to have a lot more raw nutrients in it than regular brands. Good luck!

Cream of Wheat Cereal, Cinnamon

Searching Earth Clinic for something to halt my diarrhea this guy said his mom recommended Cream of Wheat. It would absorb the extra moisture. Then I read about cinnamon as a cure and read about various ways to use it. I decided to combine the two remedies and I make a serving of cream of wheat and I covered it in cinnamon; I probably used 2-3 tsp. I love cream of wheat, so it was painless to scoff this down. It has been 25 minutes. Before I took the remedy I was in the bathroom every 15 minutes or so and my stomach was rumbling so loudly; I never heard it sound so awful!! Now, 25 minutes later there is an occasional low sounding rumble and so far I have not run to the bathroom...no urgency!!
This remedy makes sense; absorbing the excess water causing the diarrhea, and the cinnamon has amazing healing qualities. It was used in the "old days" as a diarrhea/upset stomach remedy, an anti viral/fungal and it helps to treat UTI. I can not contest to these as I have not proven the results. But as for the UTI, that is how I got the diarrhea in the first place. My doctor put on one antibiotic that I was allergic to and then changed the medicine. My stomach was all out of wack and UTI is not gone~! I will keep taking the cinnamon and report that back later. My stomach is calmed down, I do not have cramping and rumbling. No bathroom trips in more than an hour. I am going to bed to get some sleep. And bravo to earth clinic for being there ONCE AGAIN in a middle of the night emergency. I love this website; advice you can rely on (take what you want and leave the rest). Sweet Dreams...Elaine in Chicago.

Apple Cider Vinegar, stomach issues: I was feeling horrible, my sinuses were so bad i could not breath, and to top it off i had horrible stomach problems, not diarrhea, but very close to it. anything i would eat would cause me to go to the restroom. I have tried ACV before, and i am a believer in it, but i was amazed that despite taking pepto bismol and immodiam ad, ACV finally gave me relief. after being stuck at home for 2 days i was able to go out to watch a basketball game, go out to a nice dinner (couldnt eat much but at least i was not running to the restroom). I am going back onto a ACV regimen, trying it out again has made me a believer again.

I had sinus surgery and had to take a new mega antibiotic that gave me AAD. Associated Antibiotic Diarrhea. After 3 days of sitting on the toilet I was desperate and found your website at 10:15 at night. Within 36 hours of dosing, 2 TBL ACV in water (5 times total) I was completely done with that problem. I am AMAZED and a total convert. I will now be adding it to my daily regimen for my tummy problems. THANK YOU.

Terrible diarreha as of late. Doctor thinks it is a form of colitis. It got so bad I couldn't leave the house. Took Apple cider vinegar 2 teaspoons in water 2x a day. Then Tumeric 1 teaspoon in water. 2x a day. pow! It stopped. Then went on to make sure. Kefir fortified with 10 billion acidophilis 2x a day. No more rumbling and colon sensitivity has subsided. Then went on to a pinch of allspice in warm water before bedtime. I went after this think with both barrels. Have not been bothered since. I think that it was a yeast infection in the intestines. They can not screen for a yeast infection unless it has gotten into the blood stream. At which time you are in serious trouble.
Manifested:
ringing in ears
diarreha
sensitivity in colon
outbreaks of eczema
skin rashed that came and went.
Itching in the ears. A nagging cough.
Cough is still there, it has only been 2 days now, but it is subsiding. Oh yes, outbreaks of atheletes foot, from time to time.

Dear Chris, as a parasitologist, I think you got Entamoeba. Histolytica or E. Coli. Entamoeba. Histolytica is a very dangerous nasty protozoa. It destroys the tissues that is why it is called Histolytica. The best treatment is 2 grams of tinidazol for 4 days followed by an amoebicidal agents like paromomycine or diloxanide for 10 days to kill the cysts. Reinfection may occure and you have to take extra steps in washing your hands and cleaning your toilets.
S.boulardii might help.
In case of E. coli which is a bacteria known as the traveler bacteria, the approach is different.

Boiled Milk

This quick, safe and easy "cure" for diarrhea is ideal for adults, children and even babies. It is a remedy passed down through generations and never fails. I've used it myself, for my son, my husband and just about everyone I've ever known has found relief. What is it? Boiled milk. Simply measure out a cup of regular milk on the stove (not in the microwave) and bring just to a boil. Allow to cool and remove the skin off the top. You can drink it while it's still a bit warm. Ideally you would use 2% milk or even homo (skim milk might be too 'thin'). If you have diarrhea with gas, nausea and/or lots of gut noises, add a few pinches of ginger powder to the milk while heating it. For babies, they should be at an age where they can drink cow's milk. A cup of boiled milk should be enough for anyone at any age and you can drink as much as you want. Why the milk works only when boiled is a mystery to me - but it's easy enough for anyone to try and tastes good too. Results should be within an hour or less.

I tried the Apple Cider Vinegar in a last ditch effort after not having relief from several doses of Pepto. After researching the internet, I found this site and decided to try the ACV. My stomach stopped turning within about 15 minutes.
I took several doses of 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water. I did this for several days until I didn't have a weak stomach. I'm not sure if I should have taken it that often, but I did what I needed to. I've reccomended this to my co-workers who all think I'm crazy, but it works!
Thank you for posting, I'm so glad that I tried the ACV. (I've also read on this site that ACV will help to lose weight, if you use it sparinglty. I've not tried this, but thought I would share my new insight.) Thank you!

I've been a fan of earth clinic for almost 2 years now, and finally I can contribute to the feedback! About 3 hours ago I had horrible cramping in my belly. So I went to the bathroom, and lo and behold I had a bad case of diarrhea. I had to go a couple of times. However, I still didn't feel 100% after. So I started thinking about what I ate or if my dog being sick vomiting earlier had anything to do with it. Naturally, I went right here to look up remedies for diarrhea, and good old apple cider vinegar came up! I already had a bottle of organic ACV with the mother (I know.. don't mention labels.. lol), which I have been taking on and off for the last year and half. I took 2 tbls with a glass of water about an hour ago, and now I feel great! Where there was an uneasy feeling and gnawing pain in my lower abdomen, now is replaced by a relieving and soothing, almost cooling, sensation. And NO MORE DIARRHEA... WHAT A RELIEF!!! =D
