Picky Eater Toddlers

Please can u suggest me any remedy my 2.5-year-old daughter is fussy about eating. She does not eat anything if we do not feed her forcefully. Awaiting an earliest reply.

I would think feeding her forcefully and putting so much emphasis on what or how much she eats is destroying her appetite and giving her negative connotations about food. My sister-in-law ate nothing but red raspberries one summer when she was little, and when my Mother-in-law asked the doctor about her concern for her health, he said let her eat what she wants, and when she gets hungry enough, she will eat on her own. He was right. Unless your daughter has an illness that is keeping her from eating, just put food out that she can eat when she wants during the day. My children often ate their dinner throughout the evening instead of all at once at the evening meal, so I left their food on the table and they have good memories of food and calmness at our dinner table. I know you have your daughter's best interest in mind, but I would back off and let her eat when and what she wants. Her body will tell her what she needs as long as nourishing food is available.

Do not give her too much to drink in way of juices or milk that may cause her not to want to eat. Also do not put too much on her plate so she will not be fearful of not being able to eat it all. Also make sure she is not anemic, which can cause a child to have a loss of appetite.

Give her fresh juices (greens, mixed with carrot, pineapple). Carrot is one of the most nutritious drinks. She will get most of her nutrients from this drink. Research about the benefits of carrot juice. Most of the food we eat today has no nutritional value anyway - we are better off getting nutrients from juices (not processed juices).

I agree with all the other suggestions, so have just one more: when my grand-daughter was a toddler, she ate no vegetables at all, only meat and potatoes. We just put her food on her plate and she chose what to eat. As the adults were eating, we would occasionally comment how, when I was little and didn't like a vegetable, I would put a piece of it on a spoon with a food I did like and, wow! You couldn't even taste the disliked food. They hear everything, and soon enough we heard from her 'you can't even taste the pea! ' Now, at age 7, she eats everything. Will try any food on the table--she knows she doesn't 'have' to eat it, so is willing to try.

My child has been on Prevacid since month 1..... She's 2 years old now and I can't wean her due to the horrible rebound acid. She needs off this medicine to develop correctly. Any ideas how I could get a 2 year old to drink ACV and/or baking soda? She's supposed to get diagnosed next month and I'd love to cancel that appointment because I'm sure they'll simply say she obviously still needs the Prevacid. Can you give me a recipe to try? The Prevacid does help for a little bit but she has breakthrough acid, constipation/bloating, indigestion and calcium leaching. Please help!

Don't Worry. Take Home Made Milk Kefir, Excellent for digestion, gas, bloating, constipation, immunity increaser, rich in Vitamin B complex necessary increase the haemaglobin, Also all the protiens are predigested so it is very easy for digestion.

When my baby girl was 8 months, I just applied milk kefir for diaper rash and it cures it overnight. Started to give her milk kefir from 18 months, 2 - 3 tablespoons a day. Now she is 3. Drinks a glass of milk kefir with love. She does not like store bought yoghurt. Don't give any store bought juices as it is only sugar water.

You can see lots of videos in you tube for how to make Milk Kefir. Good Health

Dear Amy, So sorry for your little girl's suffering!

My babies and toddlers will drink my "vinegar tea. " (I fix it for myself and they just drink it up! )

In a 1/2 gallon jar I mix filtered water almost to the top, plus 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar. 1 dropper of Stevia (15 drops or so) and 15 drops of citrus essential oils. (I like lemon and tangerine or orange. Grapefruit is too strong and I don't like the lime.) I shake it up and try to drink a quart a day to get my 2 T. a day. But your little one would only need to drink one and one third cups a day to get 2 t. a day. (If you served 1/3 cup of it to her 4 times a day, that would do it, plus, it is better to spread it through the day. You could try doing this with 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup vinegar and water to 1/2 gallon instead.

You might see if she would take activated charcoal tablets. They would be good for gas and bloating and also to help clean out her system. I would give her one tablet (not capsule) a day, just not near time of other medication. (2 hour window, as it will adsorb the medication. ) My little ones will just suck on a tablet if I give it to them. Charcoal can be constipating if enough water isn't taken.

Dr. Christopher's Kid E Reg is very gently and tasty. A little bit is very effective for constipation and it is healing to the digestive system. My 2 year old takes it quite readily. (He takes it for constipation and to prevent reoccurance of prolapased rectum.)

Slippery Elm is also very gentle and healing to the digestive tract. You could use the powder and mix it with a little water and honey (1/2 t. a few times a day, or whenever she is uncomfortable would work.) She might not mind the taste, it is very mild. You can also get a tincture of it if that is easier.

Hope you find relief for her soon! Let us know how it goes.

My 20months old son started crawling 3 weeks ago. Though he can pull up and walk with support. He cannot stand without support and only makes vowel sounds like aahhh, ohhh, de without talking and he does not babble like other kids. what can I do to get him talking?

Your son can be a victim of vaccines or be malnutritioned. You have to eat more variable sorts of vegetables and fruits and brestfeed your kid to the age of two. When he is older than two. Start making only natural unprossesed food to him. Remember to give hime some natural source of iodine and iron both will increase his inteligence and development. Trust me these two minerals have alot to say in a health of a person especially the brain part. This can take a while depending on how much good you do it and or not how bad the malnutrition is. Remember keep him of foods in the market which is polluted which syntethic chemicals and vaccines at the docktors office. Have a good and healthy life forward may good protect you and your child from any disease.

Dear Itoro, Reading and talking and interacting with your child are the best things you can do to help his speech. It is important to be reading to your chid every day. Dr. Seuss books are a favorite of mine to read to little ones. Let your child be with you when you cook or clean and talk about what your are doing and just have fun being together. Even teach him to help. A toddler loves to have a spray bottle (we just put water and maybe a few drops of a good smelling essential oil in a spray bottle) to "help" mama clean. (And I only put vinegar and essential oils in my cleaning bottles so I don't have to worry about the chemicals around my little ones, or even me.)

Avoid TV and computer use for your child. Even the American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes that Television is actually harmful to babies and toddlers and recommends that there be no TV for children before age 2. Before I had children I taught 1st grade. I have 9 children of my own. I can tell you that reading to your children and being with them and enjoying them is the best thing for their language development.

You can get books from the library about things to do with your toddler, games to play, etc.

Listening to classical music is also excellent brain food. Singing children's songs, lullabies, and nursery rhymes are great also. It will give him something fun to imitate.

Finally, I would consider some getting some professional advice. Your child has some developmental delays. I am not one to run to a doctor for everything, but if you had a health professional you trust, it might be wise to get some counsel. For example, a child with hearing impairment will have trouble learning to talk. The earlier something like this is detected, the better off the child will be.

God bless you and your little one!

Dermatitis
Posted by Ollie (St.Cruz De Tenerife, Spain) on 07/07/2013

We are battling our son's (18months) rashes for 7 month now. He has dermatitis and it all started when he dropped when he started to walk. He got a little wound on his chin that was already red because of denting. It turned infected an spread from his chin further below and a third spot, all in line. After doctors recommendation we applied oral antibiotics and than it turned really bad. Since then it is a non ending nightmare. We tried anything (colloidal silver, tea tree, manuka oil, manuka honey. Since three weeks we are on Apple Cider Vinegar and Virgin Coconut Oil. One spot is closed but the other two not. We are desperate and frustrated. One day it looks better and the other is back open wound weeping, is always red and dry around the weeping spot. My wife is still breastfeeding fortunately. We sleep with him (for all this time)to avoid the scratching. We don't know anymore what to do and would appreciate any help... Thx a lot to e.c. Many remedies have helped but we haven't found the key solution.

Dermatitis
Posted by Mama To Many (Middle, Tennessee, Usa) on 07/08/2013

Dear Ollie, So sorry about your child's suffering! I am wondering if it could either be eczema or a staph infection. (Maybe both.) The things you are doing sound very good and I would continue them and try a couple of more things.

Extra Virgin Coconut oil and tea tree oil topically three times a day. (Unless the tea tree seems to irritate.
Continue the apple cider vinegar and breastfeeding... Both very important!

I would add 1/8 t. turmeric powder - 3-4 times a day. You can mix it with applesauce or honey. It is great for inflammatory skin conditions. I have used this for my little ones myself. (Always make sure child is drinking enough. Turmeric can be constipating without enough fluids.)

If it is eczema, it could be an allergy... Even something in mama's diet. Many of my children had all sorts of trouble if I had dairy products. You could try taking both off dairy for a while to see if that helps.

Chamomile is also really good for skin problems. You could moisten a chamomile tea bag and hold in on the spots for 5 minutes a few times a day.

Some other things that would be important are to avoid processed foods, food dyes, sugar, etc.

It isn't in a very convenient place (or easy age) to use a charcoal poultice, but it might be worth a try if nothing else you do helps.

Please keep us posted on what helps!

Dermatitis
Posted by Dave (Fountain Inn, Sc) on 07/08/2013

Hello Ollie, It is quite evident from your description that the wound which produced the infection is the basis for the facial inflammation. The child almost certainly has a viral, fungal or parasitic infection derived from his scrape on the floor when he fell. You said you'd tried colloidal silver and I'm often on Earth Clinic touting the remarkable benefits of CS... But some CS do not have the parts per million sufficient to do the job. Try a different CS. Apply topically and let him take a few drops internally using a dropper. Only within the last 10 days Dr. Mercola, a very well known complimentary doctor in the States, posted on his web site the amazing benefits of CS. I'd recommend you look at that site because he does cite sources that authenticate the benefits of CS.

Next, if CS did not do the job, can you obtain the herb "Echinacea"? That herb in liquid form is remarkable for killing microbes especially those derived from biting creatures such as spiders. Not that I think the child was bitten by a spider, but the fact that your child was scraped on the floor suggests he may have picked up a microbe that Echinacea could handle. You apply Echinacea topically repeatedly every hour letting dry on skin's surface and put one drop in water and let him drink doing this three times in a day. Do this every other day for a week.

Ollie, since this is a baby please read about dosages compatible for children. I know what I, as an adult, can consume but don't know about children. CS has been used by humans for thousands of years so I have less worry about that. But the infection in the child's face certainly means that the infection will cause serious problems unless you kill it now.

Thus, research CS by going to Mercola's web site and use the internet on the Echinacea. At least that's what I would do if the child were mine.

Coughs
Posted by Mama To Many (Middle, Tennessee, Usa) on 06/15/2013

Hi! Rachel Weaver has a recipe for Garlic Salve that she uses on babies (even little ones) for a cough in her book, "Be your Own Doctor. " Here is the recipe:

Garlic Salve

  • 1/3 c. Coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 8 cloves peeled garlic
  • 5 or so drops of lavender oil

"Pour everything into a blender and mix until smooth. Strain off the bits of garlic, and store the liquid in a wide-mouth glass jar in the fridge. It will solidify as it cools. If your child has super sensitive skin, you might try adding more coconut oil and olive oil.

Apply liberally to the chest, back, and bottoms of feet (covered with socks) at least four times a day, and as often as every couple of hours, as needed. This isn't something that you can overdose on, so don't be afraid to use too much. If it doesn't seem to be working, use more!"

Rachel Weaver has used this to treat babies with pneumonia. She uses it like an anti-biotic, except it is also anti-viral. (She will say to use it every two hours if you are treating pneumonia. )

If you do not have coconut oil, just substitute more olive oil for the coconut oil. You can skip the lavender if you don't have it. The garlic is the most important thing, it just must be diluted in the olive oil.

I am so impressed with the value of using vaporub or a generic equivalent on the soles of the feet to stop a cough. Of course, you would put socks on to keep it from making a mess. It has helped almost everyone that has tried it. Can't hurt even babies since it is not taken internally.

I don't see why not. It's no different than having salad dressing.

I would do it more gradually, though--a half teaspoon in juice first, then after a few days, a full teaspoon.

My last two older babies/toddlers have loved my vinegar drinks. :) I consider apple cider vinegar to be very safe for babies. And if you child has allergies, it is much safer than any chemical you could buy to treat him. You can also very safely use Nettle Tea with your little one. I have found it very helpful for my children, even young ones. Pour 6 oz. boiling water over 1 heaping teaspoon of dry nettle leaf. Steep (keep it off the heat) for 15 minutes. Strain out leaves. Sweeten if you like. (No honey for babies under 1 year. ) I once had nettle tea stop a bad case of hives in a child that was about 3 or 4 years old. He could drink 3-4 oz. 2-3 times a day, or even more. It is very safe.

What helps a kid stop wetting the bed?????? Help!!! Single mom of two boys...

Bed Wetting
Posted by Joy (Battleground, Wash) on 04/18/2013

There is a monitor you put in the pants that when it gets wet it sounds an alarm to wake them so they begin to connect with the wetting event as it is happening. Eventually they wake up and make it to the bathroom before the alarm. One of my kids and one grandchild used one.

Seems to run in families if there is one bedwetter, then you can have a child that is a bedwetter.

One alarm was $50 the other was $1000. Shop around.

Also, some food colors can make bladder leaky in adults and children.

Also, tension from personality or stress can cause muscles to fail and bladdr and bowel leaks in adults and children.

Wow! Thanks Somewhere in Texas for that link to the article about constipation causing bedwetting. It makes so much sense that that would be the cause. Especially when you put together other remedies that people have put forth over the years; avoiding gluten, dairy, or other food allergens, adding minerals and vitamins that help, honey, apple cider vinegar, etc. Constipation is a problem that can cause so many other troubles, including needing an appendectomy! It is such a simple solution, although it may be hard to cure. Thanks for shedding a little light. This is why I love the internet.

Cold Sores in Babies
Posted by She (Richmond, Virginia, United States) on 03/24/2013

Does anyone have any natural remedies for cold sores in a baby's mouth? My grandson has a huge coldsore in his mouth and a rash on the trunk of his body. Went to ER... They said have to do bloodwork to see if it is herpes. Meanwhile, he won't eat or drink. Slept 13 hours straight. His mother is beside herself with worry. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Love this website! Upset grandmother!

Cold Sores in Babies
Posted by Ky Mama (Clinton, Ky) on 03/24/2013

If you combine sage and thyme, red raspberry leaf and plantain leaf (all dried, use whatever you have on hand, even if only the first two) in equal amounts you can then put a small amount into a little piece of paper towel, moisten it and apply to the sore. (This may not be easy to do if the baby is in pain or if the sore is far back in the mouth.) But if you can do this for even a few minutes several times a day, it can help a lot. Or if you can get activated charcoal powder into the sore it can be very helpful. Clove essential oil, diluted 1:1 with coconut or olive oil can be applied topically (a very small amount) to the sore to relieve pain and it is also healing. (This may be the easiest thing to do.) Whichever you try, it can be safely done every couple of hours. For the rash on the body, if it is uncomfortable, a epsom salt bath (follow package directions) may be very helpful. Chamomile tea compresses or plantain tea compresses are very soothing. You would make very strong tea (2 tea bags per cup of water or 2 Tablespoons of loose tea leaves for 2 cups of water - boil the water and pour over the tea, let it steep for 15 minutes. Cool to a comfortable temperature. Soak a cloth in the tea and apply to the rash for 10 minutes or so, several times a day. You could also make the chamomile or plantain tea into popsicles. If he would suck on them it may sooth the mouth sore and would be healing as well. We have used these things for similar problems in our house. So sorry your grandbaby is suffering!

Try nettle tea. Pour 2 cups boiling water over 2 T. Dried nettle leaves. Strain after 15 minutes and sweeten with some Stevia. If he could drink this during the day, it may help a lot. My son with severe asthma was able to be off inhalers, steroids and OTC allergy meds by taking nettles in capsules. His little brother, too small to swallow capsules, used nettle tea to cure a case of hives in 20 minutes.

Another think you can do is mix 1 T. Peppermint essential oil and 1 T. Eucalyptus essential oil and put this is 1/4 cup olive or coconut oil and massage it into the back and chest at betime. (Spot check it first to make sure it isn't too strong. ) This helped my daughter who had asthma a lot!

Vitamin C is also a natural antihistamine, but I find it hard to get a lot into a child who cannot swallow pills.

Blackstrap molasses is very nutritive and if he would take a t. twice a day, it wouldn't hurt and might help.

We use raw goats milk at our house and it doesn't seem to set off any ones allergies here.

Hope you find a good solution for him!

Coconut oil is anti bacterial and anti viral and anti microbial and on and on. I started using it for my brain internally 3-7 tsp. a day and that is helping, ( no weight gain).

Then I decided to put it on my wrinkles and dry skin. (I have VERY SENSITIVE SKIN) It melts as you put it on and soaks in nicely, can cause a breakout as it heals , but then the skin clears up. I put it on throughout my day and before bed.

Also trying a dab on qtip in my ear to stop constant ear ringing and seems to be helping.

I brush my teeth with it and have less tooth sensitivity.

Hi Mandie, Spray his feet with Hydrogen peroxide & it will kill the monsters that are causing his feet to smell. So the cause of the smelly feet is probably candida & the cause of the candida is probably anti-biotics. Try probiotics to restore flora balance in the gut. Once a dr gives a person an anti-biotic he has a patient for life.

Hello, My 14 yr-old Step Son suffers from PTSD and Autistic like delays / symptoms due to 12 years of neglect and abuse from his previous living environment. Needless to say, he still wets the bed nightly (occasionally during the day also for a myraid of reasons).

Over the last 2 years, his Father and I (as well as his PCM, Psychiatrist and Counselors) have dedicated:

- countless hours of therapy
- sleepless nights (getting up every hour to pee only to discover he's wet the bed in between time)
- changes in diets (increased water and cranberry/apple juice intake, minimal to no sugary sweets or beverages, minimal exposure to dyes, carbohydrates & glutens)
- changes in bedding (plastic air matress with hypoallergenic bedding)
- changes in routines (no fluids after 7p.m. and reminders every 30 minutes to pee)

in efforts to potty train and relieve my Step Son of this heavy burden.

All to no avail... Yet. Although we are scheduled to seek the wisdoms of a Urologist, I am a firm believer in the balance between "Modern" & "Alternative" medicines and tend to wonder what more could we be doing holistically.

I also find it important to note that in the morning, my Steppy's room smells very heavily of amonia & fish from the previous night's wetting.

Any hints, tips or suggestions? Callarlilly

Hi Callarlily; Urinary incontinence may be from a neurological dysfunction. It is also included as one of the neurological symptoms of B12 deficiency. B12 has been used to help treat PTSD and ASD.

The poor boy. 14 years old is a difficult age- I wouldn't refer to it a potty training. In this case I would think he needs good quality b vits and zero sugar, zero fruits and zero fruit juice including zero cranberry. Has he been checked for glucose intolerance/ diabetes? Children from broken homes sometimes carry the burden of the emotions of their parents and themselves it's a tragedy but a challenge that can be overcome. Liquids of any kind are symbols of emotions and in the teenage years these emotions are very confusing and heightened and are not always expressed in the most obvious way. Just a few ideas for you.

Does anyone know of a home remedy to help with Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS)? A 4 year old friend's daughter is suffering from it. Any testimonials welcome.

A modified ketogenic diet may help Prader Willi Syndrome patients - 30% fat, 45% carbohydrates and 25% protein, with at least 20 grams of fiber per day. See this link http://www.charliefoundation.org/images/whitepapers/WHITE_PAPER_PWS_2016.pdf
