Colloidal Silver is the answer! It is an amazing NATURAL antibiotic. There are many websites that speak of it's amazing properties. Don't believe the lies, they FDA doesn't want you to get it - it's CHEAP! They want you to spend money on their drugs. Anyway, remember that old saying "born with a silver spoon in his mouth" - silver was and is an amazing health promoting miracle.

My child has been on Prevacid since month 1..... She's 2 years old now and I can't wean her due to the horrible rebound acid. She needs off this medicine to develop correctly. Any ideas how I could get a 2 year old to drink ACV and/or baking soda? She's supposed to get diagnosed next month and I'd love to cancel that appointment because I'm sure they'll simply say she obviously still needs the Prevacid. Can you give me a recipe to try? The Prevacid does help for a little bit but she has breakthrough acid, constipation/bloating, indigestion and calcium leaching. Please help!

Don't Worry. Take Home Made Milk Kefir, Excellent for digestion, gas, bloating, constipation, immunity increaser, rich in Vitamin B complex necessary increase the haemaglobin, Also all the protiens are predigested so it is very easy for digestion.

When my baby girl was 8 months, I just applied milk kefir for diaper rash and it cures it overnight. Started to give her milk kefir from 18 months, 2 - 3 tablespoons a day. Now she is 3. Drinks a glass of milk kefir with love. She does not like store bought yoghurt. Don't give any store bought juices as it is only sugar water.

You can see lots of videos in you tube for how to make Milk Kefir. Good Health

Dear Amy, So sorry for your little girl's suffering!

My babies and toddlers will drink my "vinegar tea. " (I fix it for myself and they just drink it up! )

In a 1/2 gallon jar I mix filtered water almost to the top, plus 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar. 1 dropper of Stevia (15 drops or so) and 15 drops of citrus essential oils. (I like lemon and tangerine or orange. Grapefruit is too strong and I don't like the lime.) I shake it up and try to drink a quart a day to get my 2 T. a day. But your little one would only need to drink one and one third cups a day to get 2 t. a day. (If you served 1/3 cup of it to her 4 times a day, that would do it, plus, it is better to spread it through the day. You could try doing this with 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup vinegar and water to 1/2 gallon instead.

You might see if she would take activated charcoal tablets. They would be good for gas and bloating and also to help clean out her system. I would give her one tablet (not capsule) a day, just not near time of other medication. (2 hour window, as it will adsorb the medication. ) My little ones will just suck on a tablet if I give it to them. Charcoal can be constipating if enough water isn't taken.

Dr. Christopher's Kid E Reg is very gently and tasty. A little bit is very effective for constipation and it is healing to the digestive system. My 2 year old takes it quite readily. (He takes it for constipation and to prevent reoccurance of prolapased rectum.)

Slippery Elm is also very gentle and healing to the digestive tract. You could use the powder and mix it with a little water and honey (1/2 t. a few times a day, or whenever she is uncomfortable would work.) She might not mind the taste, it is very mild. You can also get a tincture of it if that is easier.

Hope you find relief for her soon! Let us know how it goes.

Paint on povidone iodine twice daily on eczema patches. Worked on my 3 year and it's cheaper than the prescription drugs. Don't use iodine tincture since it has alcohol and will sting...especially for young child who scratches the eczema until it bleeds. Since the iodine stains clothes, I put large bandaids over the areas on his legs and arms.

Joyce's Remedies for Infants

Response to AKR's post:

08/13/2008: AKR from Jersey City, New Jersey writes: "I am an avid fan of EarthClinic! I have a suggestion for a new Infant/kids health page.

Here's my motivation. I recenlty became a dad. Son is almost six months now. I have made a pledge to myself to keep myself as healthy as possible using all the knowledge from EarthClinic (and other sources). So, hopefully, I will never have to fall prey to a doctor and the traditional medical system again. I would like to do the same for my son. But I don't have much idea as to what you can do, or what you can feed an infant/child (aside from the obvious of course)to keep them super healthy, and build inpenetrable immunity.

For eg, is it a good idea to give them a few drops of black strap molasses or bee pollen starting at a certain age? Omega 3 oils? My son has some allergies, which I suspect is due to HiB vaccination he got right at birth. I was not knowledgeable enough at that time to refuse that vaccine, but have postponed his schedule for the rest after much research. So, again, I am wondering, if I can give my son a few drops of ACV starting at say nine months of age to help clear his allergies?

Many thx!
AKR"

Welcome to the world of being on call for that fine son 24/7/52 from his birth onward. Aren't babies wonderful. Such perfect little ones, although you can get awful tired of not getting enough sleep.

My name is Joyce & I'll try to answer some of your questions. First off, if he is having allergy problems, the most likely offender is milk. If he is still on milk, do an on-line search for "excitotoxins" and print out that long list of names they hide monosodium glutamate (MSG) under and when you go looking for a good substitute formula make sure it doesn't contain any MSG or aspartame, especially any hydrolyzed plant (corn, soy or other)protein as Blaylock says this is the most deadly form of MSG because it also contains aspartame (Nutri-sweet). These are two excitotoxins found in most every processed foods and are ones you want to protect your son from. If you can't find baby foods without them, table foods will probably be better (just throw some of what gets cooked in a blender & puree it for him.

You are going to find it isn't easy to avoid these two excitotoxins unless you cook from scratch, and even then you have to read labels carefully. For instance, Tyson chicken (raw) that you have to take home and cook, ingredients list says: "chicken and may contain up to l5% chicken broth. They didn't mention MSG, but the chicken broth is loaded with MSG. If you read the ingredients list on Perdue beef or chicken (raw) which advertises no artificial ingredients, you find chicken or beef: followed by natural flavors or natural flavoring (which are names MSG is hidden under in our foods.

I think you will find small amounts of black strap molasses won't harm your little one, but don't give him any honey until after he is one year old. His little system isn't built to handle that just yet. I would also hold off on the apple cider vinegar until he is a little older. When you do start apple cider vinegar, remember the adult dosage is usually l tsp. to l Tbsp. and he is much smaller and would take much less of it. After he is one year old, you will probably find that a teaspoon of honey per day will also help with those allergies. When I first heard this, I tried to figure out the rationale behind this. I finally concluded that the honey is doing the same thing that expensive shots for allergies do. That is why you also are told to be sure the honey is produced within a fifty mile radius of where you live: the bees collect the pollen within a fifty mile radius from the hives, which means you are desensitizing your little one to all the pollens within a 50 mile radius, which is the same thing those shots are given for: desensitization to pollens. I would also hold off on other bee products until he is at least l year old since honey presents a problem. I've never heard or read that they do, but it's a chance I wouldn't want to take. Please do not do what I see a lot of parents doing - letting their children have carbonated beverages instead of drinking water. None of them have any nutrition in them - just colored water, sugar and chemicals. You may never see it in print but all carbonated beverages are harmful to the kidneys. If I had known this when my children were little, I would never have let them have the first sip of any soda pop or carbonated beverages. Believe me when I tell you they are harmful, because I saw 4 children 4 to l0 years old, who were spilling protein (proteinuria) in their urine.

Remembering something I had read several years earlier in a medical journal, I asked about their carbonated beverage intake. All 4 of them drank them instead of water. Changing nothig except not letting them have anything to drink except milk, water, and fruit juice and checking them one week later, 3 or them were negative for proteinuria and the l0 yr. old who had the maximum level (4+ proteinuria) on first examination was down to a trace of proteinuria. Her mother said she had done without them until she got one on the way to the clinic that morning.

Oh, in case your little fellow lucked up and is being breast fed by his mother, tell Mom to stop drinking milk and see if his allergy problems decrease. It may sound silly but I was being sure to drink at least a quart of sweet milk per day when breast feeding my third child, and he is the one who had the worst problems, especially to milk. When I got him onto a soy formula, it was like having a totally different baby. For the first time ever, I woke a sleeping baby up to make sure he was alright, because he cried an awful lot and seldom slept longer than l hour. After that first bottle of Sobee, he slept for 13 hours which caused me to wake him up to make sure he was alright. He was- I guess he was just exhausted from all the misery while on the milk formula. Also what Mom eats or drinks gets into her milk that the baby gets.

Another thing to try to avoid is food coloring in any vitamins or minerals that you give your little ones. These can also cause problems. Kids love the Flintstone vitamins/minerals but all that food coloring, sugar and flavoring are totally unnecessary and may trigger allergies. One of my nurse co-workers little granddaughter (at the age of 5 yrs) was having one urinary tract infection after another. I told her that they should watch everything the child ate or drank, because something was triggering those infections. A few months later she greeted me with "We found it, we found it". My reply was I didn't know it was lost - what did you find? She then told me that getting rid of the Flintstones also got rid of her urinary tract infections.

Hope these answers are helpful. If not, just post your reply back and if I don't have the answer, I'll see if I can find the answers for you. I think you are already giving this little fellow the most important thing which is love.

Joyce sounds like a wonderful lady, but I feel there are many bits of advice here that are way off the mark, and that folks reading this should be pointed in other directions. Breastmilk, not any kind of formula, is the ONLY choice for babies, at least until one year of age, but preferably up to age three at least. Introduce foods if you wish starting at six months, but remember that these are only to develop babies' tastes. Until age one, breastmilk should be primary food. Formula is a "food" of last resort.

Furthermore, the issue with milk and many other foods is far less about allergies to those foods in their natural forms, and much more about the modern practices used in raising those foods. Raw milk, butter and cream from raw milk and eggs from pastured chickens, as well as grass-fed meats, including organ meats, and the whole fish (including organs) is the healthiest food we can eat (alongside of the vegetables, fruits and occassional grains that work best with these foods). Mamas should not avoid these life-giving foods! They should seek them actively throughout the nursing years and beyond, and give them to their children to eat as well. I suggest reading Ramiel Nagel's book on tooth decay as an intro to the work of Weston Price and others in this field -- then you can get the cookbook, Nourishing Traditions, to help you learn how to cook in traditional ways, and you can check out the Weston Price Foundation on line. There are many excellent articles there.

To Evelyn - If breast milk is the "only" nutrition for babies.... I would really like you to explain my two super healthy 27 and 32 year old "babies". One climbed Mt. Ranier last weekend, and the other does demolition work. They were both "formula" fed babies, and are healthy as can be.

I do realize what you were trying to say... but putting it as you did makes me feel like you are coming at me in a very harsh manner. You can catch more flies with honey (organic, to be sure! ) than you can with vinegar.

Just saying ~ I found your post a bit combative.

Hi Carly, my three daughters were formula babies because they all three were lactose intolerant but they are smashing young women now: 30, 26 and 22. Ok, maybe the youngest wouldn't have had chest infections as a baby if she had had breast milk, or the two youngest wouldn't have had eczema... Who knows but the bottom line is that they couldn't have had breast milk!

Now they say that formula is no good but... They have had such a long time to develope a good formula, why didn't they do it? True, in my country women didn't give the breast anymore back then so I wouldn't be thinking about it although I was living in Holland when the children were born and there they did. Anyway, I have just read an article about breast milk and how contaminated it is with all kinds of nasty stuff, including chemicals from sun creams. That kind of articles has been around for decades.

I think that people have to stop attacking other people. Look at my daughters now (yesterday I showed a photo of the middle one in a shop as I wanted to buy a small photo album to house the photos of the children and the lady asked me if she modelled for Victoria Secrets, the oldest has just been the most wonderful bride and the youngest one has the most smashing eyes you have ever seen! ), look at your children and a lot others. Breast may be best or may have been best in certain circumstances but forcing it on people is not a good thing! Women have committed suicide because of all this nonsense, now that can't be good.....

Hi Francisca - This is all I was saying - there is no ONE "right" way.... to each his own, and live and let live. I see no need to make a woman who did not, or could not breast feed for ANY reason feel as if she had failed. Many people were raised on formula and did fine, and turned in to fine, healthy people.

I was just a little taken aback by the other poster who said the breast was the ONLY way to feed a baby. No, it isn't. It is a wonderful, and fine way... But not the ONLY way. (MO)

Your daughters sound awesome!

Carly :-)

Sea Salt... 1/4 tspn to 1 liter of water (adult dose- may want to try smaller for child but may depend on severity) - drink all day. Use fine Sea Salt and Let fully dissolve. Use this for a couple days for maintenance if needed. Eat whole cranberries or cook them low and dried. These are good to eat daily. If you can't find fresh, use dried.

For pain, drink Alkaseltzer water. But Sea Salt should start breaking it up right away. I recommend a kidney liver cleanse. Hope this helps.

Hi Ayman, Your son's pH level is very low indicating that it is very acidic which may be why he has kidney stones. You need to add more foods into his diet which are more alkaline. Water and green vegetables among other things are very alkaline. You can purchase pH strips and check his levels every morning. Googling more info on alkaline vs acidic pH levels would help you.

Here is an article on pH levels.

NAET

With more and more children being effected with an inherited defective gene causing allergies, one would be led to think that their case is hopeless. Oh contrair. . .there is great hope. In my family there have been huge struggles with allergies as on one side is EE a food intolerance disorder like celiac disease, and the other side is celiac disease. Both are intolerances, which are no different than an exaggerated allergy. well, we've found a new alternative therapy called NAET that many chiropractors and accupuncturists are doing. It eliminates allergies! Permenantly! It's basically saved my daughter from malnutrition and even death. Please give it a try. They use a very effective allergy testing technique using your own or a suragate's muscles. So it is possible to test for offending foods even before the baby has tasted them! That's what I did, knowing allergies run in our families. Then we treated them shortly after that. I believe the immunity being strong will keep our kids healthy, and if we treat allergies that are bringing us down (whether known or unknown) that will go a long way in making healthy kids.

Hi Mandie, Spray his feet with Hydrogen peroxide & it will kill the monsters that are causing his feet to smell. So the cause of the smelly feet is probably candida & the cause of the candida is probably anti-biotics. Try probiotics to restore flora balance in the gut. Once a dr gives a person an anti-biotic he has a patient for life.

Overweight Children

Respected Mama,

U are doing a very fabulous job for humanity! I often visit ur site, and learn a lot. Today I want to discuss about my 7yrs old daughter.

Actually mam, she born by c-section with weight 3.5kg and with a small problem of heart hole i.e. she had VSD of 3.5mm which had decreased to 1.76mm after 3 months of birth by itself.

We never needed any type of treatment for this untill now but doctor always advised to protect her from infection and always gave her fast treatment for cold, cough or fever, she had been given antibiotic injections for all these problems many times and she has a little weak immune system. But her over weight has always been an issue!

She is an active baby. Now at age of 7, her weight is 36kgs! Her food intake is also very good but often she has stomach ache and her motions are normal but frequency is 2-3 times a day.

Please suggest remedies for overweight. Can I give her ACV?

Dear Saniya,

Hi! I am wondering a couple of things about your daughter... Is she also tall? Or does she have excess fat for her age? Is her doctor concerned?

2-3 movements a day sounds within the normal range, as long as they are not watery. In some cultures, even 5 movements a day is normal because of a high vegetable diet. But you say that a stomach ache is common for her? Is it related to her bowel movements or after she eats?

If she has had many antibiotics and a weak immune system, she may do well to have some yogurt or even better, milk kefir daily. (Both should have active cultures in them to help the gut.)

We have found astragalus root to be an excellent herb for young children who need a boost to the immune system. I give a child that age 1/4 teaspoon of astragalus root powder once or twice a day. It can be mixed into some food (oatmeal or yogurt or rice. It is very mild.)

Some daily vitamin C may also be helpful to her immune system. I give children that age 1,000 mg when there are sicknesses going around. But vitamin C is safe for daily.

I give children of all ages apple cider vinegar and have never had any trouble with it. You could try it for her and see how she does. I would start with 1/2 or 1 teaspoon in some water or juice once a day.

Is she getting good exercise daily? A daily walk or bike ride is great because the sunshine is so good for health. But even on rainy days, a jump rope or indoor mini-trampoline would be a great way to keep active when she can get some exercise time outside.

Well, I will wait to hear more from you.

Pacifiers and Ruined Teeth

Posted by D. (NY, NY, USA) on 10/21/2009

Warning

Dear Ted, How are you? I hope very well. I am writing just to let you know a bad thing that happened to my son. He will be 2 on November 7th. I was so fool to give him a pacifier since birth. I was trusting what everybody else was doing and industries and doctors. How foolish of me! I don't trust them in anything! How could I trust them on this one! So I gave him the pacifier up to 4 days ago when I checked on the internet to see up to what age it is considered safe for the children's teeth to use the pacifier. Many websites were saying it is safe until 2 years of age, some say between 2 and 3 or 4. The site of Colgate, very honest people, says that it is safe until 6 years of age (safe for them and for the dentists not for the children). Then I found a few sites warning about the use of that dibolical object beyond 1 year of age. A site of an independent Japanese dentist said that if you keep using it up to 1 1/2 year chances of getting dental maloclusions is 30 %; if you keep it up to 2 years it is 60% , up to 3 years it is 100%. His was the only honest site I think. So I rushed to check my son's bite and it is completely spoiled. I hadn't noticed before but there is a huge gap between the upper and inferor teeth. When he closes his bite completely he can still stick most of the tongue out of the teeth! His mouth looks exactly as the picture of the pacifier damages shown in the Japanse site. I am horrified. And I have let this happen. Now it is too late. He will have a lot of trouble eating (which can potentially make the problem even worse as the face muscles try to adapt) and when his permanent teeth will come out he will have to wear braces for years. Thank you Avent, Gerber and so on. I couldn't find a warning abut this on Earthclinic and I think it would be a good idea to post my message to help mothers take wise decision. By the way I didn't give a pacifier to my older daughter and she has a perfect bite.

Got to run! Thank you!

Dear Daniela: I thought they did away with pacifiers since the late 1950s or early 1960s from a findings by dentists that it caused displaced teeth. I didn't know there is a comeback! I left U.S. in 1981 and thought the pacifier is no longer in use. In any case taking plenty of vitamin C and some magnesium will correct some of that damage. It must be noted that some of those may cause permanent damage.

Dear Ted, Thank you so much for your answer. It is always great hearing from you! There is always something new to learn from you! I didn't know this Edward Bernay. I hate Sigmund Freud with all my heart! I can't believe his "philosophy" passed off as"science". The pacifier is strongly in use in the all the West. You see children use it up to 3 and 4 years of age. Virtually everybody uses it. The only exceptions are the children who actually refuse it despite the parents insistence. A friend of mine tried to tape it to the baby face! 3 is the average age children stop using it, by that time the damage affects nearly 100% of kids. They hook the children up in the hospital were they are born, and the doctor suggest putting them to sleep with a pacifier to avoid SIDS. The PR belief artfully widespread among people is that, sure, it affects teeth, but they are just the temporary teeth, not the definitive one. They don't understand that it is the shape of the palate that gets permanently distorted! After the first months the children grow so attached to it that it is a nightmare to wean them from their blinky. I feel so dumb for letting this happen. I can't believe I did it. Really! I was in a dream-like state about this particular thing. I guess this is what happens to people on so many health related things (and in all their "opinions"). They follow what everybody else does with a disconnected brain and a reassuring feeling of "normality". This happens also for the spiritual "diseases" of "civilization". I feel very guilty! I am already giving him vit. C. I will give more, and I will try to add magnesium, even if it will be difficult to make him drink it.

Thank you again. I will try to find the documentary. . .

Do you have any news about the Codex Alimentarius. I am very worried about it, but everything looks "silent". With much gratitude, D.

I wanted to comment on the part that virtually all babies use pacifiers. La Leache league advises against its use. So I know many familes that don't use pacifiers, which is good. I sure hope this will increase.
