Does anyone have information specifically for Bronchiectasis? It is technically a COPD disease with some significant differences. There are two types, Cystic Fibrosis and Non Cystic Fibrosis. I have the non Cystic Fibrosis type. Bronchiectasis is inflammation of the Bronchial tubes caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. Apparently it is often caused by contamination in surgical settings through ventilators or water.

I had several surgeries between 2007 and 2009 for Breast Cancer. I developed Bronchiectasis within a few months after my last surgery, although it took nearly five years to get an accurate diagnosis.

Bronchiectasis differs from other COPD diseases in that it is characterized by excessive phlegm production, occasional bleeding of the bronchial tubes, constant flu like symptoms associated with the infection, periodic low grade fever, and coughing (particularly when laying down at night) and wheezing. Many people with Bronchiectasis are mis-diagnosed as asthma, COPD, etc.

Apparently, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa is already somewhat antibiotic resistant when it infects the lungs. The general progression is one of mild infections in the beginning, then increasingly worse and worse over time. In the last four months, I have been on antibiotics of varying kinds and strengths five times. I have now become resistant to ALL of them. When the infection "blows up" it happens very fast and I have been hospitalized twice in two years with Pneumonia.

I had tried some natural remedies in the early stages of this disease but saw no improvement, so succumbed to the idea that the medical establishment was my only hope. Now that is gone as well. I am ready to try ANYTHING. I am particularly interested in CS, DMSO, HP inhaled or diffused. I am starting an ACV and MSM intake protocol.

I also do a clearing technique I learned at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. I lay on the bed with my legs bent, feet tucked up close to my hips and then raise my hips as high as I can. Trying to avoid coughing, I labor breathe out, pushing the phlegm down my esophagus to my throat and then simultaneously coughing and sitting up and spitting into a cup. I do this several times until there is nothing left to cough up. I do this once a day, usually in the evening before dinner (ie; on an empty stomach! ).

I also use a percussion machine, a vest filled with air that percusses, loosening the phlegm and I use Symbicort 160/4.5 inhaler after breakfast, once a day.

I would appreciate ANY suggestions people have on how to improve my condition. Thank you all so much in advance!

Terry,

N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) will act as a mucolytic to help thin the mucus so it can flow out easier and NAC has antibiofilm qualities which will help breakdown any biofilms that are protecting the bacteria and NAC is also a potent antioxidant and radical scavenger. NAC also has anti inflammatory qualities which may be needed. NAC has also shown benefit in Cystic Fibrosis.

Another consideration is Colloidal Silver 20 ppm (CS 20ppm) delivered via a nebulizer or small cold process ultrasonic vaporizer. If CS is not available then you can consider Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide (FGHP) at 1% to 1 1/2%, no higher, via a nebulizer or small cold process ultrasonic vaporizer. These are active against pathogenic bacteria, virus, yeast, fungi and mold spores. Do not use both at the same time as FGHP may nullify the CS.

Melatonin acts as a potent protectant for the lungs and other organs through its antiapoptotic, antioxidant, radical scavenging, upregulating of the bodies own potent antioxidant system and potent anti inflammatory effects. It also is a fibrosis fighter in multiple organs of the body. Melatonin is also active against multiple lung diseases and lung inflammation.

It appears that you are in the UK and if so, melatonin will require a prescription. Here in the US it is available at most stores over the counter and is inexpensive.

These three or four items should be very helpful for your friend and then if needed later, you can see what symptoms are still a problem and we can go from there.

Okay I have finally found my info among hundreds of other paperwork. I must say that someone post today for help and here it is: For Bronchiectasis take 600mg twice daily of NAC-etylcysteine and you will be significantly better. I have helped three people and they are happy, very happy, so good luck. I have been doing this stuff for 15 years so feel free to contact me. I do lots of mental illness problems and etc., Joseph

Hi Pinetreelady

If I had what you have, I would start taking Melatonin 10mg. I used to have a recurring cough for years. After taking Melatonin it stopped and 6 years later nothing.

Melatonin has been tested by 39,000 patients and none had any side effects. It will fix anything that needs fixing. Brain, lungs, heart, liver and so on. Start with 10mg. if you do not have any side effects after a few days take 20mc. 1 hour before bed. Continue increasing up to the number that suits you. I have increased mine and I take 40-50mg. Art on this site is at 130 mg plus a night. It will definitely help your lungs.

God Bless

Gary

Lillyann,

There are no studies that I am aware of to support the use of colloidal silver via a nebulizer, so I can not make a recommendation on how much to use.

For myself, I use a cold process vaporizer when I am going to inhale colloidal silver (CS), but I do that knowing that it may be dangerous since there are no studies to say otherwise and again, I can not recommend that anyone else do what I am doing with colloidal silver. I use the cold process vaporizer instead of a nebulizer because simply because it delivers a given amount of CS faster than a nebulizer. I may try a nebulizer some day, but I like to get done in 10 minutes for each session, so I have stuck with a vaporizer.

My cold process vaporizer needs 2 ounces minimum to operate so I add that amount so the machine can turn on. I inhale directly from the exhaust port of the vaporizer for 10 minutes and I do that 3 times a day. When I am done with the session, I dump out the remaining colloidal silver (CS). Judging by the amount left in the machine, it appears to be minus a quarter ounce of CS. So my assumption is that a quarter ounce of CS went through the machine, but I did not inhale a quarter ounce because the vapor comes out of the machine constantly, but I am breathing in and breathing out and when I am breathing out I am not inhaling any of the vapor. So if there is no loss of the CS vapor at all, I might barely be getting an 1/8th ounce of CS into my lungs. I can clearly see that there is vapor loss to the open air, so I am not even getting an 1/8th of an ounce of CS from my ten minute session.

This is how I use it, but again, I can not recommend that anyone do this because it is unproven and may not be safe.

I am concerned that this reply is giving unsafe advice. The writer is suggesting that taking 300 to 400 mg of zinc picolinate each day is healthful for the lungs. Even if it is, it can cause other health issues such as anemia and copper deficiency.

Here is just one article on what taking 200 mg/day of zinc can cause --

https://patient.info/doctor/zinc-deficiency-excess-and-supplementation

He is also suggesting using zinc picolinate, one of the more bioavailable forms of zinc that may further contribute to zinc toxicity as the body will absorb more of it than other forms of zinc.

Overall, I think a very high dose of zinc supplementation is a bad idea for people. I personally never go over 100 mg/day.

Edith, I am so sorry that even after all that you have been through that you still have bronchiectasis. It totally sucks. I've had it for 20 plus years. I finally have an amazing doctor and he has used Ceftazadime in a PICC line several years ago when I was very sick. I'm on a maintenance medication called Cayston. This is done through the nebulizer 3 times a day for 4 weeks. I'm on for 4 weeks, off for 4 weeks. A similar medication to that is Tobyramycin. That is done 2 times a day for 4 weeks as well.

I also found out from my massage therapist about Manuka Honey. You can get it from some grocery stores, I get mine from Amazon. It is quite expensive, but it does help with pseudomomas. I take about 1 tsp twice a day. It seems to be helping with my infections.

I hope this has helped some. It is a very unforgiving disease. Eat well, sleep well and keep a positive attitude.

Please email me if you have any other questions.

Janet

ER, you might want to start with h2o2 inhalation. Any of the various methods work, but the one we used is filling a mug with boiling water, spritzing some h2o2 into it and breathing the vapors. At first, 4-5 times a day.

I have a simple solution for you - mullein tincture. I've used it for long covid. I had serious fatigue post covid and read this was helpful. Overnight I had improvement and had some energy. The recommendation is 3x/day. It's inexpensive and if you put a dropperful in just a little bit of water it's not too bad, has a licorice taste. https://botanicalinstitute.org/mullein/ I recently had a check up and my doctor said my lungs were clear. I still had a chest x-ray and it confirmed I was clear. My doctor said covid lungs have a distinct sound like broken glass. And no I never had the vax.

I haven't had your particular lung malady, but what cleared my lungs in the summer of 2021 is taking Amazon's Durvet ivermectin horse paste (IHP), apple flavored. With the IHP, I had to intentionally cough up lung mucus for about 10 days I would say, but my lungs were finally clear. The Amazon price per tube has recently gone from about $34 for 3 tubes to around $50 for 3 tubes.

The ivermectin dose in milligrams is .2 times your body weight in kilograms. Take every two weeks or I just took it on the 1st and again on the 16th or 17th of the month. So with a body weight of 210 lbs, the dose for me is 19 mg so I rounded it up to 20 mg since each section of the paste has 5 milligrams of ivermectin in it. So I took 4 sections of the paste for each dose. I took the IHP for 15 months.

During 2021, I had taken Covid every few months, or about 3 times until I started this horse paste which really cleared out the mucus in my lungs for good.

Now I take the 50 mg zinc picolinate (ZP) capsules at 400 mg per day in divided doses during the winter and 300 mg per day in warmer months for allergies and such. So that is 2 capsules or 100 mg every 6 hours in winter. I order ZP capsules from PipingRock when they are on sale.

So I now think ZP is possibly better than ivermectin because taking ZP reversed a sore throat for me several times in the winter of 2021-22. I also tried taking zinc citrate powder at the time, which did nothing, so I immediately switched back to the ZP.

I had become very impressed with quercetin dihydrate in 2016 for protecting my lungs and sinuses.

I had thought that taking quercetin dihydrate powder (QDP) would protect my lungs from Covid, but it didn't. I have known taking QDP to move mucus out of my lungs, so taking QDP is probably advisable. I order QDP from BulkSupplements in the 250 gram bag. Mornings I just take a level quarter measuring teaspoon of the yellow quercetin powder with water, which is about 500 mg.

For decades, what has liquefied lung and sinus mucus for me is 1/2 slightly rounded measuring teaspoon of Dash Table Blend seasoning (DTBS), taken with water. I buy the 6.75 oz bottle at Walmart in the spice aisle. It has expectorant herbs in it. It usually takes 2 or 3 days to start to thin the lung mucus if the body is ready to cough it up, with the sinuses eventually clearing as well.

So I think the IHP, ZP, QDP and DTBS could possibly improve your lungs.

I recently modified my ZP zinc dose cure to be three 50 mg capsules internally every 8 hours, which makes it a more convenient 3 times per day as my sore throat reversal or prevention dose. So it's now 450 mg of ZP per day (speaking only for myself anyway), and I will see how it performs this winter against the expected flu or viral symptoms of whatever new variants.

I go to town to shop every 10 or 12 days, and my Covid sore throats would start the next day like clockwork during the winter months, so I am glad megadosing the ZP worked surprisingly well for me. I have considered that my immune system may be impaired from a long since blown out vasectomy from 1980.

Any member concerns about zinc overdoses are well-taken by me and accepted.

I thought about also including copper in my supplements to offset zinc, but haven't.

Thanks and appreciation for all opinions such as from Marty about my possibly excessive zinc intake, and for pointing out the superior absorption of the picolinate form of zinc.

Actually, I stopped taking the zinc picolinate on Nov 3, 2022 because of indigestion.

I will still try taking ZP for any sore throats but probably at the 2 capsule dose of 400 mg per day instead of 600 mg per day.

Well I went to town on Wednesday and had the sore throat two days later on Friday. I had visited Walmart and Fry's grocery for a few hours.

So I implemented a three capsule dose of 50 mg zinc picolinate (ZP) internally every 6 hours. That's 150 mg of ZP per dose or 600 mg per day. It worked great again, within a day, to eliminate the sore throat. I like the 3 capsule dose because it provides a surplus of zinc while the 2 capsule, 6 hour dose was barely enough to overcome the sore throat.

I don't have any bad or negative side-effects from this level of ZP.

This form of zinc is so absorbable that I see the chance of a zinc overload as unlikely because the cells take it up and then utilize zinc to eliminate the virus.

I like the 6 hour dose interval because that also worked well for me last winter.

Actually, I stopped taking the zinc picolinate on Nov 3, 2022 because of indigestion.

I will still try taking ZP for any sore throats but probably at the 2 capsule dose of 400 mg per day instead of 600 mg per day.

For my clients who arrive with bronchitis, I suggested “ivy extract “ found on the Webb in pill form. It is not expensive, and within about 15 minutes they are breathing easier. Not sure, but think 3 times a day is maximum! Know it probably won't cure you, but might give you some relief! Alan

Hi I haven't read the entire message but I have had a friend that also suffered from that, I told her to take 500mg of NAC. Daily, I recall that eating an apple a day also helps. I will research my records if the dosage is different, however I think I am right. Thank you. 09/22/2022

Nebulizing Colloidal Silver for Bronchiectasis

I have recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and have been nebulizing Colloidal Silver. My question is how long should I be doing this for? I know CS will destroy the biofilm surrounding pseudomonas aeruginosa but Will it get rid of bronchiectasis or will I have this for life? I have not had surgery or been on a ventilator so don't know how I got this. I did have Valley Fever 10 years ago and have calcified lesions on my lungs from that, but don't know if it caused the bronchiectasis. Any advice would be appreciated.

I had severe Covid pneumonia in April 2020 in which I almost died. Thankfully, I survived after 2.5 mos. in the respirator and 1.5 year of physical and pulmonary rehabilitation. However, I remain having bronchiectasis and productive cough in which I need antibiotic almost every month in 2020 and 2021. I have nebulizer treatments and positive breathing device to exercise my lungs. I take all sorts of pulmonary antioxidants (pineapple, elderberry, echinacea, turmeric) but nothing helps. Lately I am taking green tea with apple cider vinegar which helped me a little bit. Last January and February, I got severe flu symptoms treated with antiviral but it took me a month to feel better. I had flu vaccine yet I still got sick with flu. Now it made me wonder upon reading this Bronchiectasis article that I want to discuss first with my pulmonary. Now I am convinced that perhaps I need a synergistic treatment for biofilm infection.

Please allow me to print your article so I can show it to my pulmonologist.

EC: Hi Edith Are you referring to one of the reader posts on our Bronchiectasis page or the "4 Supplements for Long-Covid" article by Art Solbrig (https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/supplements-for-long-covid.html)? Nani,

The suggested label dose on my bottle is 500 mg total per day which is equal to two capsules since they are 250 mg per capsule. That is what I almost always use, but have gone as high as 3 capsules per day for a very short period of time.

I have bronchiectasis with pseudomonas infection. I had pneumonia/exacerbation at least 4 times in 2 years. I got on the brensocatib drug trial and it has changed my life. I went from needing oxygen to leading a normal life (resting oxygen of 86% to 92%). I still cough up green sputum but only once or twice a day now. The trial is closed but the drug should be out within the next year or two. 🤞🏻

Hi Emmaus... I am dealing with this as well, along with pseudomonous infection and also do not have cystic fibrosis.

I have tried many natural routes and would be happy to connect with you to talk through what has worked for each of us....I am in St Pete Fl...

One of my next approaches may be methylene blue with red light therapy...

Thank you, Laura

She suffers from bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and many other illnesses.
She tried PT for several months although this was getting unbearable, so when need now uses a nebuliser.
She as recently suffered two bouts of pneumonia and the anti bionics are losing their effectiveness
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have COPD, chronic bronchitis, asthma, the whole shot, also cancer. One of the side effects of the meds I'm taking is coughing so docs haven't really pursued this but say it's a result of the meds. I'd like to try the NAC & wonder where I can find it. My present treatment has been albuterol/ipatrophium bromide & budnesonide in a nebulizer which is sort of effective but I think I could do better. Thanks in advance!
