Green Tea, Olive Leaf, Nettles   1  0

Posted by Jeanne (Farmington Hills, Mi) on 11/14/2012

[YEA]  I accidentally came across some information on using Olive Leaf, Nettles and Green Tea for acne, and found it to be surprisingly effective (after trying countless other things). I Googled each of these three things individually for acne, and there were a lot of sites that showed people had immense improvement, so I just started taking all three supplements and couldn't believe the results.

It is best to use herbs that say "standardized" and/or "guaranteed potency" to ensure you're actually getting the strength and amount the label lists. I took two olive leaf capsules and two nettle leaves capsules in the morning and in the evening (although if your condition is very bad, you can take a dose at lunch, as well).

I also took Green tea extract (either the herbal liquid tincture or herbs makes a liquid cap that works better than a powdered green tea capsule-- at least in my experience) a couple times a day. Drinking the actual tea is good to do too.

Make sure you are getting adequate vitamin and mineral intake, as well. For skin, especially Vit. C, A, E, and the minerals zinc and selenium. Also, Essential Fatty Acids like fish oil (EPA/DHA).

Hemp Seed   1  0

Posted by Emily (New York, Ny) on 09/12/2010

[YEA]  3 - 4 Tablespoons of organic Hemp seed everyday had made a WORLD of difference in my acne. I can't believe it! I don't think you have to but I take the hemp seeds with meals so the dosage is spread out throughout the day. You can sprinkle them on salads, fruit, soups, yogurt, and they taste great in almond milk, which I eat every day. As long as I eat 3-4 Tablespoons of the Hemp Seeds and stay away from dairy (yogurt is the only dairy product I don't break out from), and sugary foods and take my hemp seeds, I am in the clear! Please try this simple remedy if you are suffering from acne- it also helped my asthma so I will post about it in that section, too!

Hey I am not sure if this really works... Do you know how long it takes until the acne is gone?

Honey   4  0

Posted by Winnie (Washington, DC) on 04/03/2008

[YEA]  Thank you earth clinic. we''re all in this together. I spend lots of time reading about remedies and testimonies, the yes and the nays, its all good. I am pleased to read the nays that come from people who understand that even though the product didn't work for them, doens't mean the other testimonies are fake, just as we all are individuals, we get different's all good, learn from it and ask your higher power to send you what works. thats what i did; I have been trying lots of things, every time I read a testimony, I run out and buy the stuff and start using, and a week later, I decide, this thing is not working, and sometimes get angry because I have a cabinet full of ingredients'don't want to use anymore; then i started reading the testimonies from my heart, and listening to how I really feel about a product.

What happened is that ideas started coming to me, and one of them is honey, I decided to try honey on my acne face, I had half a jar of manuka honey at home so I started using it along with baking soda and lemon juice, and imediately I could see a glow. I also had pain in my gum, and have been using OP with some results, but still had soreness with brushing, then todaY i DECIDED TO USE THE HONEY inplace of oil, put a tsp in mouth for about 5 to 10 minutes, then spit it out and brush, wow! no pain or soreness, I also had a bump on my face, i put a dab of honey and went to bed, this money bump gone. I tok the honey jar and spoke into it thanking all the bees that gave me this wonderful product, I thanked the farmers, the store keepers and last but not least this wonderful site, earthclinic. thank you for taking us back to earth, now i know everything works, at the right time with the right attitude. Love always.

[YEA]   "Honey has also been a successful treatment of acne for me. I bought a jar of organic RAW honey and it made all the difference from the regular, processed market brands. I suggest it to anyone because not only is the organic honey full of enzymes and good things that have not been filtered out and help kill the acne bacteria, it is also non-drying for your skin or harsh in any way and I've had some degree of success with it in removing the old acne scars. Since the honey comes in a rather solid form, you can just take a spoon to it and carve some out and it'll more or less melt between your fingers once you start to rub it onto your face. I would leave it on as a mask for an hour or so, then just rinse off with warm water. Don't use soap. In fact, that's another thing that helped my skin improve, I stopped using soap and any harsh chemicals on it. The PH balance of the skin returned to normal and along with the honey, helped destroy any bacteria that was lingering where it wasn't meant to be. Good luck everyone, I LOVE THIS SITE! Thank you earth clinic and all who contribute. It has been an amazing help.

Honey and Cinnamon   2  0

Posted by Ruth (Arcadia, CA) on 12/07/2006

[YEA]  For months I've been stressed out and my face has been breaking out with red swollen pimples, which just wouldn't go away. I spent a lot of money on expensive facial cleansers, toners, and lotions...none worked. After finding information via internet regarding honey and cinnamon paste for acne, I tried it. The next morning the pimples were visibly improved, shrunken. I did a test by not putting the paste on one part of my face, and sure enough that part remained the unchanged. I'm on my 4th day sleeping with this paste on my face and very excited that something so simple is working.

Hi Ruth, Do you think it will work if I put it on my daughter forehead? She is 12 yrs old and she is having very bad breakout. Red, swollen and lots of white stuff. It hurt me looking at her so sad and depressed. So far I had tried baking soda and salt to wash it. But it seems still red and very much alive. I am scared if I make it worse. Please advise. Thank you.

Iodine   3  0

Posted by Patricia (Laguna Niguel, CA) on 12/19/2007

[YEA]  I love this website! Lots of wonderful home remedies. I read about Iodine and went on ebay- I bought Povidone- Iodine first to try, and painted myself with it over every problem area of my skin- the colors were disappearing in 15 minutes or so. The bottle says for external use only and do not apply it over large areas of the skin. Well, I have not tried take it internally yet, but as I understand it, Povidone is used for prep surgeries, which means it is in contact with blood and internal organs. After my first application on small areas, I noticed that the morning after I could see significant improvement on my skin where there used to be acne-like pumps that I had for several years- some shrank and some went away. I then started using it on all scars and it seems to make them more smooth and heal better. Upon seeing that, I asked my husband to paint me all over my back- dry, flaky skin with red irritable spots- and over night, they became more smooth. So I started to use it more and more, sometimes it stains my clothes, but my skin seemed to be healing. Don't know if that is also indication of my iodine deficiency. I wonder if it works any differently from Lugol's. I do have signs of low thyroid function, like cold intolerance, poor circulation. Can you tell me if I can take the Povidone internally? How is it different from Lugol's?

[YEA]  I totally cured my PMS, as I used to have severe anxiety, temper flare ups and acne. I paint myself with 2% tincture of iodine every AM & PM. Noticed the change within 2 days! Also, my allergies went away, my teeth weren't sensitive anymore.

Recipe: Paint about a 2" X 2" area on your stomach area, always moving the spot around to different locations (or the skin gets dried out and itchy). Just two days ago I forgot to paint in the morning, by evening I had a acne starting to form on my chin, I quickly painted my tummy, and when I awoke the next day it was gone!

If your paintings don't absorb then you can put off painting, maybe every other day. It means your iodine level is okay, maybe you really don't need any. However, I read that 80% of Americans are iodine defficient. They used to put iodine in all of our flour products (before 1966), then they discovered bromide, it is easier, cheaper, less messy and makes ingredients mix well, so it's in all of our bread, flour products (except "sprouted grain" breads/products & 100% organic) cakes, even Gatorade and Mountain Dew (it was found in Dansani water too)!

Fluoride, chlorine, bromide & iodine are all halogens, their atomic weight determines which one deletes the other, fluoride being the winner (doesn't that make you happy). Iodine is the loser, so all three delete iodine. That's why we are all deficient, we cannot escape fluoride, chlorine and bromide! So, paint paint paint, you only absorb what you need!

[YEA]  I just started painting twice a day. I have always had irregular menstral cycles and cysts and recently started having problems with acne. It has been about 1.5 weeks now and my acne is almost gone. I have had acne problems for the last 6 months and tried everything over the counter and topical you could imagine. I was ready to give up and go to the doctor for meds. Thank God for iodine! It is too early to comment on the female issues, but I am having some positive signs in this area too.

[SIDE EFFECTS]   "You write that iodine can be a cure or assist in clearing up acne. I find it just the opposite. It makes my skin break out terribly. I take it for my thyroid currently. I also had to take it as a teen for thyroid problems. Although years and years apart, I find it still very much causes me to break out.

Jojoba Oil   1  0

Posted by Cathy (Medford, Oregon) on 09/03/2008

[YEA]  For acne, coconut oil is not recommended, it will actually plug your pores and cause more breakouts. Jojoba oil is a long known remedy for acne. It is almost exactly the same composition as our skin's natural oil, so when you apply it, it will actually slow the production of sebum, which causes acne. I didn't believe any oil could help acne..but jojoba does..and removes wrinkles too..try it on the frown marks!

L- Carnitine, Vitamin B5   1  0

Posted by Caitlyn (Bloomfield, Mi Usa) on 03/02/2011

[YEA]  After literally trying everything under the sun, I came upon this article from a naturopathic doctor (link to copy and paste is below post). I've seen much discussion about B5 (pantothenic acid) for acne, but the amounts you need to take are excessive. This article explains how you can take L-Carnitine to boost the benefits of B5, necessitating a lesser amount. (L-Carnitine fumarate is the more absorbable form of it-- just google L-carnitine fumarate; many places to purchase will show up. This worked much better for me than regular L-Carnitine)

While they recommend 750 mg. of B5 with 250mg. of L-Carnitine 3x per day; I took 1000 mg. of B5 with 500 mg. of L-carnitine. (Mainly because the capsules I purchased came as 500 mg. Each, so I took two B5 and one L-carnitine per dose. I've found if I'm having a problem, adding an extra dose or 2 (making 4 or 5 times a day) works better and much faster, then you can lower the doses per day for maintenance.

Additionally, Vitex (chaste berry herb), and saw palmetto are very, very helpful and safe for hormonal acne.

I tried the vitamin B, did not help after 3 months, very expensive but worse, I started getting such blurry vision I couldn't drive or see the computer at work to input orders, I was a waitress. I was at work essentially helpless, blind, couldnt see the print. My millionth attempt at trying anything and at least $50,000 or more of every medicine, lasor, accutane, diet, elimantion of food/dairy, every herb, oil. Nothing no vitamin, raw food, no candida, Im 48. I feel hopeless.

I had terrible cystic acne. Tried a lot of things. Was told to try sauerkraut. I got the good kind (bubbies) sold at whole foods. I dont think regular brands work. This kind has lots of good bacteria. I'm not exaggerating when I say my skin was clear in three weeks. I battled with terrible skin for 10 years. Apparently, the live bacteria balanced something in my intestines and my skin cleared up. Please try it. Each jar is less than $5. I ate about 1/3 each day.

You might also want to reconsider what you're eating. Acne is usually the result of incompatible foods or imbalanced hormones. Even if the sauerkraut helps, there might still be an underlying issue that manifests in another way. Trust me, I'm living it.

Good luck!

The only thing that helped my acne problem was being placed on Birth Control pills. This I was told works on 3 out of 5 women. I was one of the lucky ones and my skin cleared up!

GREEN TEA really helped my acne.

L-Glutathione, Vitamin B6   1  0

Posted by Penelope (Boston, Ma) on 10/24/2009

[YEA]  The most incredible supplements I have ever tried for acne are L-Glutathione (500 milligrams up to 3 times a day) and vitamin B6 (ONLY get the P5P form. The other form can cause neuropathy). Split a 50 milligram pill of vitamin B6 (P5P) up and take a few times a day. I would ask your doctor about going up to as high as 100 milligrams of P5P if you really need that much to keep your skin clear. My skin is completely clear as long as I take the B6 or the L-Glutathione. I do not need to take both of these supplements together to have clear skin, - both have worked separately equally as well to clear my skin in record time (about a week to see results) but test it out and see what works for you - both have amazing health benefits. I have noticed that L-Glutathione has the added benefit of also making my hair really shiny and healthy looking.

Both vitamin B6 and L-Glutathione are potent detoxifiers of the liver so go up to the dose you need VERY slowly! If you break out initially, bear with it - this is just a detox/cleansing reaction.

Try opening a capsule of vitamin B6 (P5P) and take a third of it - or half of it - and see how you do Same goes with the L-Glutathione pills or powder . You can take the same dosage up to 3 times a day. Definitely take the B6 with food because it can make you nauseous. Also, the B6 (P5P) could keep you up by giving you energy if you take it late at night.

Topically, Jojoba oil is great for acne. It moisturizes without clogging pores. I wear it all over my face and neck at night. It is the only moisturizer that does not break me out!

I have suffered with severe cystic acne and was on 3 courses of Accutane so I know what it's like to suffer with acne. With either of these supplements, thankfully I don't have to suffer anymore. I hope this info helps anyone out there who is struggling with acne.

Lemongrass Oil   1  0

Posted by Roo (London, UK) on 10/17/2008

[YEA]  Lemongrass oil cured my acne

After trying Hydrogen Peroxide, ACV, aspirin as well as witch hazel, benzoyl peroxide cream, oxycycline cream and tea tree oil, the pimple on my face still refused to budge. It was one of those red kind that has no head.

Looking for a new remedy
I read on the internet that Lemongrass oil had anti-microbial, antiseptic, astringent, bactericidal and fungicidal properties and could be used to treat acne.

Even though I had read that to use it in creams or oils you should dilute it I decided to get its full properties perhaps I should not dilute it. I applied it neat onto a cotton ear bud which I then applied directly to my pimple.
Overnight my pimple has shrunk, is less inflamed and appears to be disappearing!

Lysine   1  1

Posted by Darrell (Louisville, Ky) on 06/24/2012

[YEA]  A very good treatment for acne is Lysine. It is very cheap and can be found in any store's vitamin section. It typically comes in 500mg pills. I'll chew up 2 or 3 of them a day when I have an acne outbreak and it'll be gone in no time. Hope this helps and good luck.
