[YEA] 10/31/2006: Stan from Cleveland, OH: "Cold showers cured my dry skin and poor circulation. Wow! Just found this site after having tried this the past few weeks. Usually, I alternate between cold and hot -- always finishing my shower with at least 1 minute of ICE COLD water. My skin feels great when I get done. I feel energized, and often aroused after my shower! I'm totally hooked! TRY IT!!"
[YEA] 08/16/2006: Monica from Marietta, GA: "I came across cold shower benefits because of this war and the HIGH gas prices. I used electric heat in the winter but continued to use gas for my hot showers. After receiving a gas bill about $100 for some hot bath water I was DONE! It actually wasn't that bad when I started. I would adjust the hot water as if it was there - Mental thing...LOL! My skin was already nice but NOW it is sooo much smoother and soft! I feel so energized after my cold showers. I notice that when I get ready for one my body actually increases in temperature. I feel hot and can't wait to get in there. I do still take them that time of the month - It doesn't bother me at all. I am glad I am not the only one doing this...I was feeling crazy! But I am glad that it really does help with other things. This is really great!"
[YEA] 05/30/2006: Jameson from Costa Rica: "OMG, I feel like I've discovered the HOLY GRAIL! I'm taking 5 cold showers a day, sometimes 4. I didn't expect to be in the city again and have temporarily ended up in San Jose, Costa Rica, after having been in the country near Nicaragua for 3 months chillin' in nature. It's an armpit of a city and very noisy and my nervous system goes into overdrive in this kind of environment and I get rashes! Anyway, I know 5 cold showers might seems excessive but it totally calms me down, brings me to life, washes away a lot of the over stimulation feeling (which can drive a person mad with hyperactivity) and keeps the rashes down to ZERO! WOOHOO! Whenever I start to feel messed up, i just hop in the shower and zZIP, I've got a whole new body and outlook!"
[YEA] Edwin from New York: "I have been doing cold shower therapy now for about 3 weeks; I shower twice a day. I feel great, look great, and feel a sense of well being all around. I also started using Pure Almond Oil, and my wife says that my skin never felt so soft...like a baby! I'm 51 years old and to have skin feel soft like a baby...well...you know the rest."
[YEA] 01/24/2008: Jacob Witherson from Raleigh, North Carolina: "I began taking cold showers 2 weeks ago. Needless to say, they make me feel incredible, like I can touch the sky. No joke. I usually take them at night but I had a state test today so I decided to take it since I've read on here it boots energy and concentration (I get distracted and tired really easy) and it turned out to be true. They also make me sleep like a baby, where before I had insomnia. As 2 others mentioned, it makes you hair really curly (I have extremely curly hair, even with warm water) but they get less frizzy than they usually do. I would reccommend these to anyone as they do help. Word of advice, I purchased one of those shower heads that have the metal cord thing so you can hand hold it to spray parts of your body. This helps a lot as you have more self control over doing it and dont instinctively move out of the water, you are forcing yourself to do it. Awesome remedy, thanks much!!"
[YEA] 12/10/2007: Leon from Wichita, KS: "Cold showers are fun. I take them every morning and I sleep great at night. The cold showers really help my immune system and my autonomic nervous system. It also regulate my brain chemistry. I tried the dip showers, but the cold is lots better for me. I tried taking them twice a day but I decided to take them in the morning."
[YEA] 10/16/2007: John from Virginia, USA: "I have been taking cold showers for the past 3 days at night and I can greatly tell the difference. If I lay down to sleep right after I take a shower, I usually fall asleep within 15 minutes, which is a miracle since it usually took me about an hour or more. I didnt even bother trying to take them over the summer as the water wasnt cold enough, but now that fall is coming and temperatures are getting in the 40's the water is freezing. I cant wait until snow comes so the water is even colder. I havent tried them in the morning as I get out of bed and go in the shower and usually dont feel like getting real cold but I will tomorrow to see if it effects my day. The only side effect is when I was in the shower for the first 5 seconds I started panting and almost became dilusional because it was shocking. Nothing bad about them though. I do have to go from medium to cold back to the middle of the both then cold in order to survive it. Would reccomend it to anyone!"
[YEA] 09/01/2007: Leon from Wichita, KS: "I take two cold showers a day so that I can take a cold shower in the morning to stay awake all day and a cold one at night to sleep at night. It really helps me to avoid naps and it helps me to stay asleep at night."
[YEA] 08/11/2007: Leon from Wichita, KS: "I like taking cold showers at night. It helps to sleep and I feel confident getting up in the morning. I encourage everybody to take a cold shower at night. It really helps with insomnia."
[YEA] 07/28/2007: Leon from Wichita, KS: "I started taking cold showers on July 23 and felt very confident and able to get thru one day with little sleep, but then I felt used to taking cold showers that I sleep better. My body is softer and my mind is clearer. I spoke with several people about it and they were surprised and couldn't do something like that."
[YEA] 03/28/2007: Matt from Derby, UK: "Been taking cold showers for a few about two weeks, I'm finding i'm warm all day, when my friends say "ohh there's a bit of a chill in the air" Is there!!! , feeling good my muscles and skin feel toned like I've been to the gym, i sleep like a baby when i get in the bed after a cold shower, i get that massive shock n rush when i have one in the morning. i also feel more alert and am getting more sex drive and stronger erections.. ok, take cold showers, they are great fun...."
[YEA] 08/12/2005: John from Ventura, California: "For 23 years I have not been able to sit for more than 2 minutes and when I sleep at night I get terrible muscle leg cramps attack at night from 1 to 10 per month. The 3 lower disc in low back are badly degenerated. I discovered 3 weeks ago if I take a cold shower between 11:00 to 4:00 during the day I eliminated the terrible leg muscle cramps at night. The sitting problem is not resolved; however, the ligaments in the lower back do improve after the cold shower. I have tried ice pack therapy but does not work like ice cold shower therapy to eliminate leg cramps at night."
[YEA] 07/15/2005: Deepak from Valencia, Spain: "I have been taking cold showers since the last two years(summer and cold winters), the feeling is simply unbelievable. After the shower, you have so much of energy injected into you keeping you fit till the end of the day and at night another shower before you sleep, giving you the best of sleep throughout the night, which i would like to recommend to everybody that this is one the most effective and cheapest investment towards health. There is nothing like being healthy."
Tips From Our Readers
05/05/2009: James from Roseburg, Oregon: "This is a submission for the cold showers remedy.
My Method and what I Know:
First how I got started. I got involved because my father told me about it (he his interested in some of the Hindu's practices and practices some of them) and that it was beneficial to ones health. He also told me of some other Hindu practices that I now combine into my shower regime.
So, next is what I do. First I turn the tap on warm. But since I am not close to the hot water source, it takes some time for it to reach me. So I usually have a 10-15 second cold shower. I then take a hot shower for the next minute or so. Following that I rinse myself with another 10-20 second shower. At the end I pat myself dry with a towel. Also during the shower I usually yell as loud as I can for stress relief reasons. Plus to give my vocal cords some exercise.
Now I will tell you what I experienced during my time taking cold-hot-cold showers. First, I noticed a peculiar thing about my perception of the waters temperature. The first section felt quite cold and I usually try to keep it short. The portion after the hot part on the other hand did not fell anything like the one before. It was almost like my body had created a shield; likely to be the blood rising to the surface from the first cold water blast, and then my body was further heated from the hot water. Two last thoughts, At the beginning I had a lot of trouble turning the water on. But, I noticed that as I continued it was taking less and less effort on my part, till now I have next to no trouble. Thought two, I also noticed that taking my shower is very revitalizing, and is good for clearing my head so I can think properly.
This next section I will talk about the benefits I have seen of taking a cold-hot-cold shower. I know it would be good for warding off sickness in two ways. First, it acts as a mixer to the blood. The cold bringing the blood to the surface, then the hot driving it inwards, and finally the cold drawing it back out again. ( I think the blood does this because of homeostasis, a bodies mechanism for keeping balance.) The second reason I think these showers are good for wellness is that hot promotes openness and movement, essentially opening the pores of your skin. Cold on the other hand closes things and promotes stillness.
So, I would advise a person to end with a session of cold water at the end of a period of hot water. UNLESS, that is, they wish to have their pores open for health purposes. Although as general practice I would usually close my pores.
Also a word of caution. Try to keep the water from being to hot. Especially where your hair is concerned, as it can cause damage to the roots. (Or so I have hear. But it does make some sense.)
Thank you for reading this, and I hope you got something out of reading it.
Good Vitality and Enthusiasm to you!"
05/17/2007: Adil from New York, USA: "I find taking cold showers hard (painful), but I discovered something that significantly helps: Bring a few ice cubes in a glass with you to the shower and keep an ice cube in your mouth as you shower. Take another when it melts."
