03/13/2009: Elizabeth from Adelaide, Australia writes: "People who are concerned about the health of their pets should read the latest international guidelines for dog and cat vaccination.

In 2007 the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) published Dog and Cat Vaccination Guidelines (built on the US AAHA (Canine) and AAFP (Feline) guidelines) for global application. Ref: http://www.wsava.org/PDF/Misc/VGG_09_2007.pdf

The WSAVA guidelines include a number of significant statements:

- We should aim to vaccinate every animal, and to vaccinate each individual less frequently. (p. 2)

- we should aim to reduce the 'vaccine load' on individual animals in order to minimise the potential for adverse reactions to vaccine products. (p. 3)

- Vaccines should not be given needlessly. Core vaccines should not be given any more frequently than every three years after the 12 month booster injection following the puppy/kitten series. (p. 2)

- In the case of dogs, the Fact Sheets of the WSAVA guidelines note that duration of immunity after vaccination with MLV vaccines is 7 years or longer, based on challenge and serological studies, for Canine Parvovirus Type 2 (CPV-2), Canine Adenovirus (CAV-2) and Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) vaccines. (pp. 15-17)

In regards to duration of immunity, Professor Ronald Schultz, an expert in immunology and a member of the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group, notes:

"I believe that dogs and cats vaccinated as puppies and kittens should be revaccinated at 1 year of age with the vaccines used earlier. After that I do not believe there is an immunologic need to revaccinate annually with CDV, CPV-2, CAV-2..." (Ref: Current and future canine and feline vaccination programs. Veterinary Medicine, March 1998, pp. 233-254).

In an article published in August 1995 (nearly 14 years ago!), Professor Schultz stated:

"I don't think there is a need to vaccinate adult dogs, since early vaccination will be sufficient to stimulate memory cells." (Ref: Are we vaccinating too much? JAVMA, Vol 207, No. 4, August 15, 1995).

If your vet sends you an annual reminder to have your adult dog revaccinated with the core MLV vaccines for parvovirus, adenovirus and distemper, challenge him. The latest scientifically based guidelines state that it is not necessary for adult dogs to have these vaccinations every year of their life. It is of no benefit and actually puts the dog needlessly at risk of an adverse reaction.

I learned this the hard way when my dog (Sasha - an eight year old Maltese x Silky terrier) became very sick with what was diagnosed as "haemorrhagic gastroenteritis" eight days after her last unnecessary revaccination with core MLV vaccines (C5 booster). My dog had six annual boosters during her life, most of which were unnecessary, and needlessly put her at risk of an adverse reaction. Sasha is now dead, put to sleep four days after the visible onset of her illness. The veterinarian who vaccinated her refused to consider her illness (and subsequent death) might have been caused or influenced by the vaccination. I am now in the process of preparing my own "adverse event" report.

I have been researching this subject since Sasha's death last September and I am shocked by what I have discovered. Australia is way behind on this issue. A culture of unnecessary and possibly harmful over-vaccination with core MLV vaccines has become entrenched. The whole system is weighted against acknowledging and reporting delayed reactions that might have been caused by vaccination. I am currently trying to fight this system.

According to a paper by an expert in this area, Dr Jean Dodds, vaccination reactions can occur up to 45 days later, or even longer. (Ref: Vaccination Protocols for Dogs Predisposed to Vaccine Reactions. Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, May/June 2001, Vol 37, pp 211-214.)

Who knows how many other people's pets have gotten sick or died a week, a month or even longer after a revaccination and they haven't made the connection that the revaccination could have been at fault? The veterinarians aren't likely to mention it are they? The WSAVA guidelines make the point that adverse events are grossly under-reported.(p. 8). So dogs and cats can end up with chronic illnesses, or even die, and the pet owners would never know that over-vaccination may have been the cause - a case of veterinarians "burying their mistakes". If I hadn't decided to do some research after Sasha died, I wouldn't have found out about this. Sasha would have been just another unknown and uncared for statistic.

As more and more people discover that there are veterinarians who are actually putting their beloved pets needlessly at risk with unnecessary over-vaccination with core MLV vaccines, there is likely to be a significant backlash against the veterinary profession.

Those veterinarians who value the integrity of their profession need to address this untenable situation and work to ensure that the practice of unnecessary over-vaccination is ceased immediately. This has been going on for years and important scientifically based information has been withheld from pet owners.

I am trying to have this situation addressed by the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA), the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and Australian Veterinary Schools. So far it is proving very difficult to get effective action to address this serious problem...

Read the WSAVA Dog and Cat Vaccination Guidelines and decide for yourself.

People should be informed before they make the decision to revaccinate their pets. There are serious - and unnecessary - risks involved with over-vaccination."

02/28/2009: Yvonne LeMay from Aguanga, CA, USA writes: "Please....don't vaccinate your dogs or cats after they've had their puppy shots. It's just not necessary. My toy poddle had reactions to rabies and other annual shots. My new holistic vet said all those shots are NOT necessary, and may in fact be very harmful, as you can see by all the comments on this website. My poodle has not had ANY vaccinations in about 8 years (he's 14 years old now) and he's doing very well. Vets are no different than our own doctors, they are taught to give drugs and vaccinations, rather than get to the root of a problem. Ever notice how you take your dog/cat for annual shots and they manage to find other things wrong and you end up with endless bills? That's how they get you there in the first place....scare you into thinking that you HAVE to give your pet annual vaccinations. It's deadly!! Refuse to do it, like parents refusing to vaccinate their children because of the link to autisum....the government is behind saying that vaccinations DON'T cause autisum because they're not concerned with the few who have bad reactions. They think they're saving millions from illness...but what if your loved one is the "one percent" damaged from the vaccination. Wake up....don't let them brainwash you into thinking your dog/cat needs vaccinations every year. It totally overloads their own immune systems."

04/09/2009: Roxana from Braidwood, IL replies: "I have a poodle who is very healthy, will be 2 years old in July and he has developed a spot on his right front shoulder blade where the his hair is gone. Approx. size is 1-1/2 round. There is a slight feeling of warmth and at times it has a small section that is hard under the skin. A couple of weeks earlier he had a 3 year rabies shot, now 2 months later he has a hairless spot and I am worried, even though the vet does not seem to be as worried as I am.

What happened to your poodle? What do you think might have happened? He eats all natural foods, chicken, rice, green beans, carrots and broc. drinks plently of water and has good stools after he eats. He is also very active. Just has a bare spot on his right front shoulder blade area. Thanks Roxana"
04/18/2009: Bebe from San Francisco, CA replies: "Hi Deana,

I just took my 3 year old chihuahua in to see her vet due to her right thigh's skin spot. The spot is hairless and was immediately noticeable after her rabies shot. I was assured by my vet that it's a reaction to the rabies vaccination. Smaller dogs are more prone to the reaction.

My vet can exempt my dog from her yearly rabies vaccination since she has a reaction. In the US, it is very likely that domesticated cats and dogs carry rabies so our vet assured us that our dog will be fine without the rabies vaccination.

I hope this help answer your poodles spot and you can feel somewhat relieved as I started to think that it was skin cancer.

Best to you!
Bebe"
09/19/2010: Ron from Canton, Mass replies: "Read up on vaccincations. They are 16% of vet profits. Overvaccination is something called vaccinosis. A DISEASE! Read all you can about what your pets really need. We humans don't get vaccinations every year. Titers should be checked to see if your pet really needs that yearly vaccinations."

I gave a home to a stray cat who possibly had a poor start in life. When he became very poorly, I gave him 1/4 tsp powdered sodium ascorbate dissolved in 2ml warm water, used an old syringe [no needle]to inject it into his mouth. I did this at least 2 hourly during waking hours. The effect was wonderful!

He has a tendency to get discharging eyes. I use 1tsp sodium ascorbate in 1/2 metric cup warm water & swab both eyes 3-4 times/day with great clear up. [I drink the left-over solution.]

A friend who breeds rottweilers has a prize dog that's asthmatic. The asthma cleared up with ascorbic acid several times/day. The dog came off all its meds."

10/25/2008: Kristen from Valhalla, NY writes: "Hello All.. I just had to write after seeing the posts related to pets and vaccinations. I have a Maltese dog, she's going to be 7 in 2 months. In March of 07 she got incredibly sick and I took her to the animal hospital. They determined she had pancreatitis but also was losing protein in her urine. They did further tests and determined she had lyme disease and later determined it was lyme nephritis.

The type that affects their kidneys. They told me she had 6 months to a year to live.

I REFUSED TO ACCEPT this.

I must mention my cousins dog had just died of this like 3 months prior. But, I had been studying the law of attraction and the power of your mind. So I made a decision then I would not listen. She continued to get better with each checkup but the western medicine doctor at the hospital kept saying, well, we see this. They were just so negative and didn't believe I could pull her out of this. Good thing for my own interest in natural medicine, organic food, etc.

From the minute she got diagnosed, she was on organic chicken and rice that I cooked for her. No canned processed food for her.

I understood the kidneys are the body's center for toxin removal, remove toxins and the kidneys will be less taxed.

So like I said the doctor wasn't listening to me. I was determined to find someone who would listen and believed in what I believed. That's how I found Dr. Martin Goldstein's practice. He was actually on Oprah one day that I happen to catch. I went out 2 weeks later and bought his book. It described a story about a dog who had the same thing and lived. I knew I had found my answer. I was basically willing to fly across the country to have my dog seen by this man. Long story short, he ended up having his practice in NY, 45 min north of where I live. I immediately made an appointment and have been seeing a doctor in his clinic ever since.

Princess has not only lived for almost 2 years... but, her kidneys have recovered and is now going to live a full complete life. I'm incredibly grateful for this practice, I did research during this and I believe that when I vaccinated my dog for Lyme, that once she got it, the disease mutated itself into the terminal version.

They also do not vaccinate at this practice unless necessary. They to tests every year to see if they still have antibodies..

I HIGHLY recoomend them. With my mind and their treatment, my baby is saved. www.smithridge.com

Dr. Martin Goldstein has a book out too. I know people drive hours to have this practice see their animals.. They are amazing..

**sorry for being so long, but I had to tell my story. And recommend these amazing people***"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/19/2011: Corrin from Baltimore, Md replies: "I recently took my Jack Russell mixed breed to get his distemper, rabies, lymes, lepto, and bordetella vaccines. Two hours later he was limping and refused to use his back left leg. I called the vet to find out which limbs were injected. The back left leg was injected with the lepto vaccine. After a restless night of watching over him like a hawk, I woke him early the next morning only to find that he was now limping on his front right leg as well and refused to move at all. Apparently the front right was the destemper injection. My poor baby was in so much pain he was shaking and crying and got very upset if he was touched. I rushed him to the vet where he was given morphine and anti-inflamatories. After 48 hours on pain killers and anti-inflamatories he is better. He still has two red lumps that look like injection sites and there is a large amount of red skin around the injection.

I found out that the same thing happend to my neighbor's small terrier. The distemper vaccine almost killed her little angel."

[DEATH REPORTED]  07/18/2011: Jordan from Alexandria, Va replies: "My Pekingnese died in four days from a distemper vaccination. He was in otherwise perfect health. The vet who had administered the shot admitted that it sometimes happens. I had never heard of a deadly reaction to a shot that we are told all dogs must have. Her sanguine advice was, if I get another dog, to "get the dog's titres checked" before getting the dog vaccinated for distemper."
08/29/2011: Hamlet from Toronto, Canada replies: "My sincere sympathies and deepest condolences to you and everyone everywhere whose dog has suffered a negative reaction to the lepto vac (among other vacs). Like most pet owners I, too, used to vaccinate all of my pets against most everything out there, thinking that I was acting in their best interest by doing so, only to find out later that often times the so-called "cure" is far worse than the prospect of a disease--i.e. , over-vaccination is itself a serious problem. I agree it's a problem, and not something often discussed with pet owners by vets it seems (although changing, there are still many "old school" types out there who do not like to answer questions, much less admit any fault, thinking they know best, having experienced this myself after many years of pet ownership, until I began asking a ton of questions, and then questioned some more, believing that it is I, the pet owner and not the vet who has my animal's best interest at heart, not to mention that I am the client so far as I am paying for a service, and thus entitled to full and proper disclosure so as to make a proper, informed consent, if at all. Vets are to pets what doctors are to people, and our pets I agree are not pin cushions, deserving of the best care which to me also means only the vac's they actually need, nothing more and nothing less.

Currently, I am the proud owner of Jack Russells, and whilst this is the breed most likely to get Lepto on account of its innate hunting instincts (i. E. , fox, raccoon, basically everything and anything that moves, etc. ), fact is I no longer get them vac'd vs. Lepto b/c the so-called benefits do not outweigh the risks. I say this even although my JRTs enjoy sometimes the very same habitat enjoyed by the wild creatures that spread lepto [i. E. , via urine, feces, and saliva/drinking water like steams, with the possibility always that my dogs could come into contact with an infected animal by giving chase/hunting for e. G. A sick raccoon, there being tons of raccoons in the cities and they have no regard for private property, thus giving rise to the backyard hunt/chase and potential for an infection, as I understand that disease and how it's transmitted). Of course vets (most of them anyway) highly recommend the lepto vac, especially for hunting breeds like JRTs even if, like mine, such dogs only "hunt" in their own yard and play-parks. What they don't tell you (most of them anyway) is that the lepto vac. Is only good against a couple of strains of lepto, there being many different strains with new ones having emerged since, and to which that vac. Provides no cross-protection, at all. In other words, in my opinion, and for my particular situation, any perceived benefits of the lepto vac. Would be at best minimal, and thus not outweighing the risks since my JRTs are not real life hunters (not in the field other than regulated competitions, and living not in the woods or the country but in the city, such that they don't come into contact with real prey, apart from the occasional trespassing raccoon for which their bark is usually sufficient to keep them away, but even if it didn't, what are the chances that the raccoon is a) infected, and if so, then b) that it's infected with the actual strains for which the vac. protects, as opposed to something else? Otherwise, and really, when off the property and not in a controlled competition, they are on leash 100-% of the time: wouldn't want them tearing off after some raccoon or field mouse only to get hit by a car on crossing the street, and more reason why they don't need that vaccine.

Now, if they were hunting dogs, and/or we lived out in the country, on the edge of woodlands or something then, in those circumstances, I would likely opt for the Lepto Vac. This, b/c on those facts, the risks of my dogs coming into contact with lepto would be much higher than it currently is, thus tipping the scales in favor of the vaccine. However, even then I would want it to be given separately from the core vaccines, and for the life of me don't understand why it is that some vets to this day insist pretty much on giving everything at once, and never did (administrative convenience/expediency doesn't in my opinion outweigh the risk of complications, any more than a slight as in negligible (more like non-existent) risk of contacting the actual strains against which the lepto vac. Would in my case justify my dogs getting the lepto vac. , b/c it doesn't and never did).

After reading this, I realize that my reply might sound a bit on the cold side, being analytical as it is, for which I apologize in light of the very real suffering that is being reported. Please know that it is not my intent to offend or in any way detract from the pain and suffering being felt by pet owners such as yourself (and others), for you are without question and clearly a loving and caring pet owner, doing what you thought best for your pet by agreeing to the vac. In the first place (you have my deepest sympathies, and I am sorry for your pain and suffering). I hope that you take some comfort and solace in the fact that, by sharing your story and experience, you are making certain that other pet owners are armed with knowledge, thus (I hope) ask of their vets the hard questions to which they deserve full and proper answers, after which they can make an informed decision, according to their own situation, that is proper for them and their particular pets. While the risk of a reaction to the Lepto vac. does vary, with many pets experiencing no difficulties or only slight difficulties, the fact is and remains that complications do vary from individual to individual, and at various times: of course, Lepto disease is itself very serious if contracted, costing upwards of thousands of dollars to treat. In turn, everyone has to weigh the risks vs. Benefits, keeping in mind their own situation, and decide for themselves. And if a vet won't give you proper information in which to make an informed decision, then yes, it's time to change one's vet, with that I couldn't possibly agree with you more.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, and highlighting the fact for us all, and reminding us, as to the problem of over-vaccination. Your story also reminds us to ask the hard questions of our vets, and demand from them in plain-English a proper answer, so that we properly assess both the benefits and the risks, which uniquely vary according to one's own dog and where it lives, what it does, etc. , as above noted. Wishing your pup a speedy recovery, and a long and happy life. All the best."

My sweet male PitBull Terrier already had his rabies shot when he was 6 months old, he is almost 11 months now & is currently licensed. I was looking for a way to renew his license without getting another rabies shot. He didn't have a bad reaction the first time, however I'm not taking any chances. I refused the Lyme & corona vaccine & insisted on coming back 4 weeks later for his first and ONLY rabies shot, I didn't care what they wanted or the dirty stares I got. When the "reminders" for his next round of shots come in the mail it will go in the trash where it belongs! I wanted to add, that, I understand that you can give any animal having any adverse type reaction to a vaccine or if you think an illness or tumor or cancer is vaccine related; you can treat them with homeopathic med "thuja" 30c is what is best from my natural med book on cats and dogs. I have read different dosing, tho one is to give one dose, but for 3 days. You could check the internet for other recommendations. But it could possibly save a pet's life. Also you can give even if there is no bad reaction, but I am not sure how long after the vaccine was given, this would be recommended. Hope this helps someone."

AVOIDING VACCINES

The test is way more expensive than the immunization - unfortunately - but so worth the extra expense considering the added time you will give to your beloved pet (and time without disease and the pain that goes with that - since they cannot tell us whats wrong and often they suffer in silence. QUESTION

[QUESTION]  06/03/2009: Mi from St Augustine, Florida writes: "How many Booster shots does a puppy need any way? When I first purchased my male rat terrier, the seller told me that he already got his first set of shots and gave me the vet's paper work for my vet. When I took my puppy to the vet for exam they told me that they were going to start all over because I waited too long to get him his next booster. I have been going every month to the vet for booster shots since that first time and it never seems to end. The last time I went to the vet, they told me that was all the shots he needed and he got his rabies shot too. Now I receive a reminder that he now needs his Corona booster #4 and DHPP booster #5 - gee how many of these booster shots does he really need? Will it harm him if I do not get these (hopefully) last set of shots? Thank you for your assistance."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  11/28/2009: Cindy from Council Bluffs, Ia, Usa writes: "My dog had his annual vaccinations, including Bordatella (sp?) a week ago and a large lump has developed in the past 4 days. He is a pekingese/yorkie mix and is 1 years old. The lump is nearly 2 inches across. The vet told me just to watch it so no remedies have been tried yet. No other symptoms are present."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  11/28/2009: Mardi from Eureka, Ca writes: "My pup Oliver received a Bortadella shot in May of this year. On July 2nd, I had to rush him to the emergency clinic as he was having a hard time standing up and walking. His PCV was 17. Long story short, he had developed Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia. After two awful months of massive medications, blood transfusions, and weekly vet visits, extensive expense and awful heartache, we had to put him to sleep on September 8th as he had a serious relapse. I have read that vaccinations can cause a pet to get AIHA. This was the worst experience of my life. I miss my pup terribly and did everything I could for him. Did the vaccinations cause him to go into AIHA? I don't know, but it is a very good possibility after researching and communicating with others who are going through the same thing with their pet."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/09/2009: Nancy from Gap, PA writes: "Friday my 7 year old 10 LB toy poodle had his yearly vaccinations. On Monday, he was honking like a loud goose, choking and spitting up foam. We rushed him to the Vet and he developed Kennel Cough as a result of the Bordetella vaccine. He is on medication and is very sick and just lays around with this sad look in his eyes. I will never allow him to have that shot again. Since he is never around other dogs I feel secure in doing this. I'm also reading that Lymes vaccine has a lot of side effects too. I probably will only allow rabies vaccine from now on....because it's the law!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/27/2009: Yogakathy from Ulster Park, NY USA writes: "vaccination reactions immediate and delayed: Sweet Patootie, 1 1/2 year old bichon frisee, had facial swelling just hours after his vaccination - I think Bordetella injection was the only different one. 6 months later he developed near-fatal auto-immune hemolytic anemia, and barely survived a week in intensive care - almost at the point of getting a transfusion. He did live, but died prematurely at the age of 11 1/2 years. Unknown cause of death. I resorted to having his titers tested yearly, and they really do stay high enough for years after vaccination."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/18/2009: Pat from Phoenix, AZ writes: "I got my dog vaccinated in mid january 2009. She received a 3yr rabies shot and a 1 year bordatella shot, all in the same visit. The first couple of days she was pretty lethargic and i thought this was normal. Her usual early morning readiness and late night "i still wanna play" coincidentally vanished with this vet visit. The vet seems pretty informed, but may not know just how evil these pharma co.s get in the name of profit (please see my next story about profit). She insists absolutely that the vaccine has anything to do with this and now i've paid 500+$ getting her thyroid checked....next story:

My god blessed and beloved cat, Phyllis, passed away barely reaching the age of 9, back in July 2005. When she was about 3, i got her a rabies vaccine. Shortly after, a lump started growing at the injection site (vet advised that this probably was just a little reaction to the injection)...and it grew to about the size of a breast of chicken (and it also looked like such) by the time i had it removed (@300$+) about 2 years after it initially started growing. Well, 4 years after the removal, she comes deathly sick supposedly with "cancer". Well, after 7,000$ of chemo, she died 3 months later.

DON'T TELL ME THAT A PHARMA CO. MAKES PILLS! THEY MAKE MONEY AND THEY MAKE MONEY FROM SELLING PILLS THAT WILL ENSURE YOU NEED TO TAKE MORE PILLS LATER ON. Otherwise, they'd be out of business. Do yourself a favor and go to a naturapath for you, your loved ones and your pets. f the pharma co's and those little psychotic people wandering and blathering around my office all jacked up on "feel good" pills, don't forget them young school shooters, too, who are always jacked up on anti-depressants. the doctors will kill you and your pets, albeit out of both ignorance and arrogance, but they will be making GOBS of money for themselves and the pharma's by pushing this non-sense....where did the war on drugs go awry?"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  01/11/2009: Jodi from Detroit, MI writes: "I took my two chihuahua puppies in for their 16 week shots one month ago. All previous shots were well tolerated. I asked for the vet to give them a bordetella shot just in case I needed to board them when I go on vaation. Within minutes of administering the nasal vaccination, one of my puppies began snorting. I thought he was just trying to get the liquid out of his nose. It is now about a month later and he has developed a permanent cough. I am treating him with medication twice a day, but I don't know how long I will need to do this. The vet is now saying he has a collapsed trachea, but he never coughed before the bordetella. I think the vaccination did some permanent damage to him, or at the very least made a slight genetic issue much, much worse."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  08/13/2011: Jeannie from Roanoke, Va replies: "My little 3 lb chihuahua did the same thing. He now has a reverse sneeze that freeks most people out that he does daily. He had another reaction last week to his 3 year rabies shot which is the only one he still gets. His face was huge and he had hives and his fur was sticking out. Childrens benedryl and emergency vet were fabulous. No more shots for our dog... he'll get titers."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/31/2008: Angi from Mount Vernon, Ohio writes: "Bordatella allergic reaction:

Our one year old lab went in today for his routine vaccinations. A few hours later the vet called to say we forgot his Bordatella. Our lab received it (through the nose). About an hour later his eyes and mouth area were very swollen. The vet said to give him Benadryl. We also gave him a bag of ice to chew. This helped calm him and hydrated him at the same time."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/21/2008: David from Brampton, Ontario, Canada writes: "My Boxer had her 16 weeks vaccine to help prevent the Bordatella virus.5 days after her nasal vaccine, she developed not just a little runny nose, but a full blown infection. Yellow mucus shooting out of her nose when she sneezed. Major pleghm and rolling cough from her throat. Presently taking Doxycycline with no improvement. Now going to Guelph University for further testing. It appears the vaccine did this to her. Now I find out most people do not recommend giving your boxer this vaccine. Boy is my dog sick right now. I hope she gets better soon."

The vet doesn't think this is the problom but all symtoms cleared within 24 hours of giving Ivermectin."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  07/18/2008: Stephanie from Queensbury, NY writes: "My dog received the intra-nasal vaccine for bordatella on Feb. 28, 2008 the next day she started to cough almost asmatic, a runny nose so full of mucous, constantly running also very tired out. She's only 3 yrs. old .Over the next few months she has been scoped, x-rayed, nebulized, and been on three different antibiotics,$1,000.00 later to no avail. The vet chalked it up to an allergy. At which I called Schering-plough the company which makes this vaccine. The vet there said to take her back and they would pay for a battery of tests to see if the Bordatella was responsible. Of course after waiting 3 weeks for results they said Bordatella didn't show up. My dog was a healthy energy filled dog until this. Now she's very lathargic and sleeps alot. I will not vaccinate my dog again I will go all natural. To see her so sick and uncomfortable and shortness of breath breaks my heart and angers me to know the vets continue to over vaccinate."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/29/2008: Linda from Sisal, Yucatan, Mexico writes: "Both of my dogs - a female Shih Tzu and a male Pekingese - had the bordetella vaccines this past Monday. Within a couple of days, they were both extremely lethargic, and have been sort of "snorting" (I guess this is called "reverse sneezing"?). I took them back to the same vet on Saturday, and he did a blood test on the Peke, as he was the worst, and his white blood count was above normal, but everything else was normal. He said to give them both liquid Benedryl every 8 hours for 3 days, then once a day for the next 2 weeks. I haven't noticed any significant difference so far, but have only administered 3 times so far, so hope it helps soon."
