Home Remedies to Lose Weight

Updated: 11/16/2009

rss feed

"The least intrusive weight loss methods, and those most often recommended by physicians, are adjustments to eating patterns and increased physical exercise. Usually, health professionals will recommend that their overweight patients combine a reduction of the caloric content of the diet with an increase in physical activity.

Other methods of losing weight include use of drugs and supplements that decrease appetite, block fat absorption, or reduce stomach volume. Surgery is another method. Bariatric surgery artificially reduces the size of the stomach, limiting the intake of food energy. Some of these treatments may have serious side-effects." (Wikipedia)

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DOSAGE AND RECIPE

09/08/2008: Earth Clinic writes: "We are going to revise our recommendations for daily use of apple cider vinegar. As you know, Earth Clinic has recommended the standard 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of water 3x a day for years now. For more severe conditions, we recommended 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water 3x day. We are coming to believe, however, that less is more in the case of apple cider vinegar. Less vinegar, more water.

Our revision to this remedy is as follows:

2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar
16 ounces of water
Sip, don't chug!

We now suggest 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 16 ounces of water that you'll sip throughout the day, rather than drinking the whole concoction at once 3 times a day. You will be keeping your pH in a constant, alkalized state by sipping this highly diluted dosage. Usually one tall glass of the concoction is all you'll need each day.

If you drink a lot of water throughout the day, consider adding just a splash of apple cider vinegar to your glass/container each time you fill it up, rather than drinking the one, 16 oz glass of acv and water mentioned above.

For the record, we are not big fans of adding baking soda to apple cider vinegar, nor are we fans of adding any kind of sweetener to the acv/water solution. The baking soda works great for some people, but causes severe side effects in others.

Also, we know the B---- brand is the most popular apple cider vinegar on the market, but we've had just as good results using Whole Foods' organic and Trader Joe's organic apple cider vinegar.

We hope you will experience better, faster results with this revised remedy!"

TED'S REMEDIES

12/16/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "The fast food industry problems was actually covered in a documentary movie made by Morgan Spurlock called "Super Size Me". In the movie, Mr. Spurlock mentioned that he wanted to prove whether fast food was healthy or not after seeing a news on T.V. purporting that you cannot prove that eating fast food is not healthy.

At the time, Morgan Spurlock's body was healthy so he decided to take a 30 day challenge by eating McDonald's food for 30 days. The rules were quite fair. He needs to eat all the items sold in McDonald's. If they ask whether he wanted super size, he will say yes. There is a good reason why -- most people order Super Sized portions.

Within the third day he vomited, and within 15 days he was sick and gaining weight. The amount of sugar he was consuming was several gallons of sugar, which is quite a bit for one person.

At the end of the experiment, he gained weight, had high cholesterol, blood pressure problem, etc.

Cheese is opiate producing and causes addiction, but then so does caffeine from the cola.

More than 90% all items in fast food is actually acid forming, which includes hamburgers, french fries, fried chicken, coke, etc. The only item that isn't so is salad using Italian Dressing!

The other problem appears that OILY food and trans fatty acid are quite dangerous, particularly that when you do boil vegetable oils in high temperature the starch and sugars and vegetable oils will form a cancer causing compound called Marylander.

The other thing that is less known is oil tends to act like a sponge in gathering heavy metals during cooking. This is why avoiding oily food is important.

Eating sweets causes you to be fat because they are not burned when you do eat it, so the body stores them. Eating oily food is not healthy either, because oily foods becomes fat too, but most importantly free fatty acids are highest in fried food (from the frying possibly) and scientists do know that free fatty acids BLOCKS the actions of hormones.

Hormones, in my opinion play an important part in controlling your weight, in fact most of my weight loss is actually attributable to the increase in hormone supplements of DHEA, or the reduction of oily foods from frying as well as reduction of sugar. Most weight loss that is clearly seen by scientists which are often on short term of a year or less that clearly shows weight loss have a lot to do with hormone injections using human growth hormone and other hormonal related substances.

Of course we as a consumer prefer a safer method than just following the scientist footsteps since hormones are rather risky in some cases. A much safer way is the use of secretogues, which means taking more of certain amino acids to cause the body to increase in hormone naturally. Human growth hormone is well known to increase from taking certain amino acids such as L-glutamine, L-glycine, L-ornithine, and L-arginine for example and they found to increase several times.

The other is vitamin, where B3 niacin is the common one, however, I went to dig a little deeper and found niacinamide, which won't cause the flush to work just as well. Of course for the purists, niacin red flush problem can be stopped by just taking one aspirin 30 minutes before taking niacin.

Whichever, I still prefer to take niacin, and my remedy for human growth hormone formula is to take several grams of amino acid before sleep, in particular L-glutamine, L-glycine and niacin. I still think the adrenal glands, which prevent you from job burnout or inability to handle stress, ESPECIALLY me, means that I also need certain vitamins which will cause my body to produce adrenal glands naturally too. The best ones to handle that is taking a gram or two of Vitamin B5 such panthenol or pantothenic acid. I tend to avoid calcium and take more magnesium, but in the fish aquarium world and natural sea, the ideal concentration should be 3 parts magnesium to 1 part calcium. Since our food already has plenty of calcium, usually from vegetables, then magnesium is something we need more of. Very few people in fact know that an ordinary potatoes same serving has a lot more calcium then that of milk. So i guess we can thank the boys on Madison Avenue for creating this kind of urban legends.

Finally the single most important things we DON'T need whether it be fast food or even all processed food: Monosodium Glutamate (MSG). MSG not only will make the food taste good, but MSG also destroys the hypothalamus which controls the entire body's homeostasis. The most easily seen is appetite. Upon taking it, you will have a sudden urge to eat more and more which leads to obesity. In fact, scientist can make baby mice morbidly fat by injecting them with monosodium glutamate. The MSG will once entering into the brain destroying the delicate homeostasis mechanism controlling hunger and will be morbidly fat throughout its lives.

Of course this can be boon sales for the pharmaceuticals selling cholesterol lowering drugs and other. However, most people do not read the labels, especially when taking vaccine injections, monosodium glutamate is commonly added too, besides just the toxic mercury thimerosal and alzheimer causing aluminum.

A couple of decades ago, it was required that babies be in their 6 months or life or beyond to get a vaccine, otherwise it would cause brain damage. Today we are doing it within a week of birth and suddenly there is a jump in the number of ADHD, attention deficit disorder and autism case. [EC: read Candice Pert's research on this subject]

Currently it is the developed countries that have the highest rate of ADHD, attention deficit disorder and autism while the underdeveloped countries can't afford them.

So as you can see it is not JUST the fast food being a problem, other areas are also problems too."

ACAI BERRY

11 WARNINGS!

[WARNING!]  06/15/2009: Taylor from Laguna Hills, CA writes: "I had a sketchy feeling about the acai products. I ordered mine online with a prepaid visa because I did not want to give my real credit card information. I found out my sister has been getting charged every month for the exact same thing, until she canceled her credit card. It's a huge scam!"

EC: Such a scam!! Oprah recently even added a disclaimer to her website about acai berry products. Apparently she was getting flack for promoting an acai berry product on her show once.

07/19/2009: Wendy from So Plainfield, NJ replies: "When you have a problem with a company, just contact your Attorney General's office and tell them what happened. They will direct you to an agency that handles consumer complaints. I have done this in the past and they take these problems seriously. You may never get your money back, but it may just help to put an end to these scams and have these people investigated. I received a very nice letter telling me that their office urges people to file consumer complaints so they put these companies on notice that they are braking the law. Good luck.......it has worked for me. Wendy"

11/12/2009: Bumble_b_tx from Austin, Tx replies: "I really found Acai to be effective, but online buying especially with products that have recently been brought to media attention is dangerous...Go to your local health food store. I bought a bottle of acai powder that lasted me forever and was very effective. Way better than have your credit card numbers usurped. :)"

[WARNING!]  04/29/2009: Linda from Ft. Lauderdale, FL writes: "EC, I am posting this in response to your request for information ref the Acai Berry scams..

This has also been posted at:
www.complaintsboard.com

I placed an order for the free trial of Acai from these people also. AFTER entering my CC info, they sprung the "terms agreement" of:

1. ongoing monthly automatic Acai shipment at $85.91 per month, PLUS
2. some OTHER membership thing called Fit Factory for ANOTHER $29.95 per month, PLUS
3. some OTHER thing called Cost Smashers for $2.95 per month.

There are 3 separate numbers to cancel these 3 separate little piggybacks.

Thank God I emailed the "terms agreement" to myself to read it, since it didn't show until AFTER they had my card #.

When I call to cancel this it either:
1. Hangs up without ringing

2. Comes on with a voice recording which says please hold, then proceeds to fritz the connection and disconnect

3. Never rings at all.

It's very clear that these people don't WANT to be contacted. So I have called my bank and cancelled the CC; Thank God no further charges seem to have been made so far.

This company is named 'Natures Acai Berry',

Their address is
A.S.N LLC
20100 S. Vermont Ave.
Torrance, CA 90502

I notice that their Company name apparently USED to be 'Natures Best Acai Berry', they're apparently trying to dodge.

This stuff is distributed by Amir and Sanchez Neutraceuticals, whose address is:
Amir and Sanchez Neutraceuticals
5425 E. Broadway Rd #282
Tucson, AZ 85711

By the way, this stuff has VERY LITTLE Acai berry in it; It actually consists of:
Chromium (Metabolic booster)
Green Tea Extract (High in Caffeine) 225 mg
EGCG (A component of Green Tea which suppresses allergic reactions!!!) 135 mg
Caffeine 200 mg
Acai berry extract 50 mg!!!!!!! (Must have squeezed a single berry over the vat)
L-Theanine (Another Green Tea component) 8 mg

So- What it REALLY is, is Chromium, Green Tea, caffeine and a tad of Acai.

What rot.

I am posting this here hoping it will help somebody else NOT get taken...

Good Luck, everyone- Fight the good fight. This is bad business."

[WARNING!]  05/02/2009: Mitch6114 from Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, Canada replies: "I too was scammed with the ad on Facebook regarding a 14 day free trial offer for Acai Berry. IT IS A SCAM! Once you give them your credit card number on the internet, they bill you even if you return the small trial. They are unreachable by phone or by internet. DO NOT GET CAUGHT AND DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER because you will be liable to pay your credit card charges as YOU gave it to them. I hope you will learn from my experience."

07/26/2009: VERONICA from new york, NY replies: "Hi i too ordered acai berry online about a year or so ago and i guess i consider myself lucky cus when i saw the charges i called two of the companies and was able to cancel right away. Things like that make you wonder how honest these people are about their products. I'll keep on trying loosing weight but not with these corrupt companies."

09/29/2009: Catherine from Orlando, Florida replies: "Sorry to hear about your scam. You should purchase Acai at a retail price and ask for their return policy. I don't buy anything on the NET without a telephone number listed on their sites or contact information for me to call. What if you have a problem and you can't contact them. I stay away from sites that do not have a number or no knowledge about the products. I bought it straight from the company and still $20.00 less than my neighbor who falls for the same scam that you did. Call your credit card company to dispute the charges. Good luck!"

[WARNING!]  02/25/2009: DEE from HYATTSVILLE, MARYLAND writes: "I WANT TO PIGGY BACK ON WHAT TERRY SAID ABOUT THE ACAI BERRY PILLS FOR WEIGHT LOSS. I WAS FURIOUS WHEN I ORDERED THE PILLS AND GAVE MY CREDIT CARD. IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A TRIAL SAMPLE AND YOU HAD 30 DAYS TO TRY IT OUT FOR A $1. WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY DIDN'T SEND ME THE PILLS UNTIL MY 30 DAYS WERE UP AND CHARGED ME $89. I HAD A NUMBER TO CALL AND THE FIRST THING CAME OUT OF THERE MOUTH WAS I COULDN'T GET MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE IT WAS PASS THE 30 DAYS. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET MY MONEY BACK. I STILL HAVE THE PACKAGE IT CAME IN SO I CAN PROVE I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE PILLS UNTIL WAY OVER A MONTH AFTER ORDERING THEM. THE CARD WAS CHARGED WAY BEFORE I GOT THE PILLS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MAD IN MY LIFE. IT WAS A RIP OFF SCAM. AT LEAST GIVE ME THE CHANCE TO TRY THE PRODUCT AT THE OFFER OF A $1 AND IF I DON'T LIKE IT I COULD SEND IT BACK BEFORE BEING CHARGED. NEVER USED THE PILLS I WAS SO MAD. HELP ME PLEASE"

02/25/2009: Janice from Coloma, Mi replies: "Dee, this is what you should try. I was charged twice and they tried a third time. I called my credit card company and they said they would dispute the charge. They told me exactly what I had to do. Hang onto the product because you will probably have to mail it back. I had hardly mailed the first bag back when a second one arrived. It was a pain but a learning experience. I also put fraud alert on my credit card because I was worried that if they had my credit card number they could give it out to someone else because they were obviously not trust worthy. Call your credit card company. Really, they were so helpful to me. I just got a statement from them a couple of days ago and they credited me the first $89.00 and the second charge of $93.00! Good Luck."

02/25/2009: T from Maryland, USA replies: "Contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. You should have some protection through them. I've seen several of these posts now - I don't see where anyone can expect EC to be responsible for or help with problems stemming from other sites, linked from here or not. Use common sense in clicking through ad links no matter where you see them. I don't ever give out my CC info to any company I am not familiar with or haven't researched."

[WARNING!]  03/17/2009: Denise from Athens, Ohio replies: "I was also one of the unlucky ones that fell for this scam. Calling the company is nothing but a HUGE joke. They don't listen, just keep trying to sell you more. But I did contact my cc company right away and they was great in refunding it (yes it happened twice) But I also notified the Better Business Bureau and emailed them copies of the emails I had sent the company trying to cancel. Actually tried cancelling and stopping it within a minute of ordering because my "gut" told me something was not right about it.

So my suggestion is for anyone still dealing with them, contact the BBB and hopefully they will be able to do something if enough people contact them."

03/17/2009: Duaty from Tampa, FL replies: "To get your money back call your credit card company and lodge a complaint. I did with the same thing and within a week they credited my card. I had three charges for almost $100 and I got it all back"

03/19/2009: Linda from York County, Maine replies: "....anytime you're credit card is mistreated by a seller, dispute the charges and let the credit card company take care of it....you need a pretty good reason for feeling the charges aren't justified, can't just do it willy-nilly and it sounds to me, Dee, that you have a very good reason to begin the dispute. Good Luck!"

[NAY]  03/22/2009: Nicole from Toledo, Ohio replies: "I actually lucked out with this one. I had $1 left on a gift credit card and decided to try the stuff. I found out later about them ripping people off that did the trial. Since then, any time I need a credit card for a site/company I don't know well I go to the store and get another prepaid gift credit card. It's very little hassle compared to dealing with con artists, fraudulent charges, and identity theft.

I hope this can help someone.

PS The Acai stuff did nothing but give me gas. :)"

[WARNING!]  03/29/2009: Vicki from Beloit, Wisconsin replies: "I can't believe I'm reading these posts. I got sucked in too! I got a phone call from a fast talker 5 days after my order was placed. I was being given all these little disclosures by a speed talker. I was yelling 89 dollors? What are you talking about. I signed up for a free trial offer! sorry mam I'm just the messinger. You can cancil by calling this number within 15 days of recieving your product.I'm yelling WAIT what's the number again. The sweet soul told me the number like five times in her fastest speed talk phone voice. My debit/visa told me there was not much they could do so I completely canciled out my card and ordered a new one. They were already trying to get 49 dollors from my account. I learned a valuable lesson. I never took my pills eather I was so mad. Vicki"

EC: Does anyone have the website address of this terrible company? Would like to make sure their ads are all banned from appearing on EC.

04/14/2009: Sis from Springfield, MO replies: "I work for a major credit card company and from what I have experienced from customers calling in about a infomercial charge like the acai berry pill, anytime you want to try a product from an infomercial, look up their ordering info online or call the number on the t.v and ask if they have a way to order it and you can mail a money order, do not use a check from your bank account or your credit card or debit card otherwise they will charge you before your trial period is up. this goes for ALL informercial or advertisments in magazines or newspapers or online. A lot of the time it might be a great product but they do try to scam you for your money...Just a tid bit of information that everyone can use. Hope this is helpful!!"

[WARNING!]  04/15/2009: Mitch from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada replies: "I too was scammed by these infomercials on Facebook for the Acai Berry free trial offer. I thought I could try their products as specified on their website but they kept billing my credit card although I had returned their products and cancelled my membership. It took months and a lot of phone calls and letters. I finally cancelled my credit card and paid my credit card. I was held responsible for the debt, as I had willingly my credit card number to this company. THIS IS A SCAM ON FACEBOOK AND ON MANY WEBSITES. I have learned my lesson AND sharing my experience so others don't get caught like I did."

EC: Will someone please send us the website url of one of these acai berry scam companies? Want to make sure they are banned from appearing in any google-sponsored ads on Earth Clinic. Thanks!

[WARNING!]  04/15/2009: Jane from Blackfoot, ID replies: "Just want to comment on the acai berry scam.It was supposed to be free-just pay 4.95 shipping.I got charged 39.95 two times in 1 month. I had to change my credit card no. I am grateful to hear complaints from others as I thought I missed something.Actually I went back to the sight.I think they've changed companies. I never want to use my credit card again mail things. Thank you to the girl from Toledo who used a prepaid credit card. That is the only way i'll order from now on."

04/16/2009: W replies: "To Dee from Hyattsville regarding Acai Berry Pills Scam...Call your credit card company and file a dispute. I did this in a similar situation and they disputed the charge with the company, I got my money back."

[WARNING!]  02/17/2009: Terry from Vancouver, WA writes: "ACAI Scam: Please tell your subscribers to read the fine print befor ordering the Acaia Berry weight loss pills. I ordered the pay postage only for a trial weeks supply. I gave them my credit card to pay for the postage cost. I received the sample pills that didn't do anything. I didn't contact the company because the pills were worthless in my estimation. About a week later I received a months supply, and they charged my card a whopping $89.00. I was furious. Then I went looking for a phone for the company and lo and behold they didn't have one, the company wasn't registered in FLORIDA, but they had a service in Utah that handled there orders. I called them and they said they could not refund any cash period. I then told them I was going to the States Atty. Gen. office and filing a complaint against them. Well, to make a story short I settled for 1/2 my money back (which I shouldn't have) the pills were probably only worth (retail) $19.95 or a $1.00. I then went to the internet and found out that most of the companies selling Acai were all from Florida, with no phone number or address. Tell all your subscribers to PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT WHEN ORDERING THE FREE SAMPLE. I know you are in business to make money and serve the people who trust your ads. ACAI should be CANCELLED.

Terry "

EC: Terry, we're very sorry you had a terrible experience with an Acai Berry ad that you saw on our site. The Google-sponsored ads on Earth Clinic are by third party companies and we have no control over what appears on our site. Ads tend to be triggered by key words a particular page and they change constantly. If we know the website URL of any such company, we can (and do) ban them. We don't currently see any Acai Berry ads on the weight loss page, so if you see it again, please send us the website address.

More about this in our User Agreement (paragraphs 4 & 5)...

[WARNING!]  02/18/2009: Janice from Coloma, Mi/USA replies: "I too had a bad experience ordering Acai Berry off of the Internet. Shortly after ordering it, I read that it was a scam so I immediately tried to cancel. The phone number listed was a non-working number. I called my credit card company and they gave me a number which was also a scam. I called the credit card company back after an 89.00 charge appeared on my card and told them about it. They put it in dispute and the next month there was another charge for 94.00. The credit card company was really good about it and they disputed both amounts and have since credited my money back to me. Watch out people. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!"

[YEA]  11/08/2008: Robyn from Perth, Western Australia writes: "I have been reading a lot of late about the fantastic anti-oxidant power of this acai berry. Have also read that it is very good for weight loss. Has anyone tried this for this purpose, did it work and did you use it alone or with a colon cleanse? Some articles I have read suggest that is has colon cleansing properties and others seem to suggest that the two need to be used in conjunction with each other. I would be very interested in anyone's personal experiences. Looking forward to feedback. Thanks."

11/09/2008: Lori Keat from Blacksburg, Virginia replies: "I have been drinking Acai Berry juice w/blueberry,pomegranite,raspberry juice added from a major vitamin shop chain store. I have also been doing the colon cleanse. I chose to do so, because I'd read where the "1-2 punch" was the way to go. I did not buy what was recommended on the internet as a packaged deal, but purchased my own from our local health food store. Having been doing both for about a month now, I have seen NO weightloss. I have, however, discovered that I love the Acai Berry juice. It seems to make me a better me. No side effects, I just 'feel better' I sleep like a dream, whether I take the juice in the a.m. or p.m. I have also tried the company's Acai Berry juice which comes in a bottle that resembles a wine bottle, and you can only purchase from someone who has become a distributor for that company. I believe this was on Oprah (like I care). Anyway, it had a nasty bitter taste to it, but I finished the bottle because it was given to me, and I did not have to spend the normal fee of approx. $45.00 per bottle. I like the one I get from the vitamin shop w/the three other juices added. Now for the colon cleanse. I bought mine from our local health food store. I started w/ the 2 week, just to besure my body could handle it. I was concerned because I thought I'd 'go' all day every day. In my case this was not so, I was going every other day, but 'better'. I know that doesn't make much sense unless you experience it. Also it was very gentle. I did notice my indigestion lessoned quite a bit, and so did my occassional acid reflux feeling. I did not diet, but was more aware of my food choices.

I will continue both, because I see a difference in 'me', but not my body weight. I hope this helps you.
Lori K."

[NAY]  02/15/2009: Joelle from Watertown, Ma replies: "i tried the acai berry supplement along with a colon cleanse. i lost no weight at all. i did have regular bowel movements in the morning for the first 2 weeks then i resumed my normal bowel routine (about every 2 days) i was very disappointed in both products. i took them both as directed and in combination with healthy eating and exercise. the colon cleanse product was bromalite and called for one capsule twice a day. the acai berry was 3 capsules at night."

03/27/2009: Arlene from Blanchardville, Wisconsin replies: "To those of you who were defrauded when companies used your credit card, delayed shipment, wouldn't refund, etc.: This happened to me in a different situation, and the company was feeling very "uppity" until I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in their area. All of a sudden, my refund came through. Use the BBB!"

[WARNING!]  04/20/2009: Katie from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario CANADA replies: "Definitely agree with all the warnings about the acaiberry product - EC, check out acaiburn.com to see the ads. I was sucked into this too and it was a terrible experience - they signed me up for all sorts of 'web-advisor sites' that cast 15 bucks every two weeks, that they didn't tell me about beforehand - I got on the phone and got all the charges cancelled after a long drawn-out battle, but the total on the credit card over about 2 months was nearing $500! And, they 'accidentally' created two accounts for me in their database, so when they 'deleted' my account, I continued getting charged and had to call them again to track those charges down! it adds up, believe me - all those little 'internet access fees' of $5, or the shipping costs of $15 etc. It is not much of a 'free trial' and returnng and cancelling it is such a hassle, don't even start!"

EC: Thank you for the website url!

06/06/2009: Gabrielle from Brighton, Ontario replies: "To loose wheight just take apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning and 20 min. later take 2 table spoons of phyllium husk the secret is you have to drink liquids to move your waste through your bowels its easy. Don't buy Apple cider vinegar in plastic bottles. Regarding credit card scams its easy just report your card stolen no more charges."

ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

2 YEA

[YEA]  06/15/2008: Jennie from Copenhagen, Denmark writes: "I had been losing weight really quickly after starting an exercise program. I wanted to make sure that any old toxins that had been stored in my fat didn't start circulating in my body, so I took 1 tablet of activated charcoal, 3 times a day (remembering to wait 2 hours before/after eating), for a week. I didn't exactly feel a difference, but I SAW one. I looked five years younger (am only 30, so that's a lot for me)! I also highly recommend adding 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder to 1 tablespoon of facial mask. It is a mini-facelift!"

06/24/2008: Stephanie from Montgomery, Texas, USA replies: "Where did you find the activated charcoal?"

I'm a thin person, and thought this was weight gain due to menopause & quitting smoking. Ond day I took 2 activated charcoal capsules for gas, and I ended up spending a lot of time in the bathroom that day. By that evening, I realized that my stomach was flat again! I figured that the charcoal had detoxified my system!! I will continue to take the charcoal once or twice weekly now. I am extremely happy with the results!!"

ACV AND BAKING SODA

1 QUESTION

[YEA]  11/16/2009: Gg from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia writes: "I thought it was time to share my positive feedback on weight loss through drinking Apple Cider Vinegar and Bicarb Soda (sodium bicarbonate).

I'm 28 and have been taking the pill for about 5 years and recently decided I should have a break. I had gained a couple of extra kilos over the years that became increasingly hard to shift. Every year it was only a little bit but it all adds up, and like my dad says, half a kilo a year = very overweight by the time you're in your 50's! I'd always been very slim and didn't tend to put on weight, despite the fact I used to "eat for Australia" -- much to most people's jealousy. I could basically eat whatever I liked at whatever time of day. I eventually just attributed the cellulite and extra "puppy fat" to getting older and gave up trying to get back to my late teenage size. We're only talking about a size and a half bigger here but it was the fact that I just COULDN'T get rid of the fat that got me down. I was also having major migraines around the time of menstruation and the pill I was taking was really expensive, so I decided to have a break, I figured it would do me good.

Immediately the fat started dropping off! This was bitter-sweet for me, as it confirmed my suspicions but it also meant I was always going to have to deal with the extra kilos if I wanted to avoid "oops" children (other contraception didn't work well for me).

Eventually I had such bad skin problems (I guess it was like a "withdrawal"?) that I started back on it. But I'd effortlessly dropped almost 2 sizes and was able to get back into old jeans I'd given up on, all whilst eating like I used to - it was so liberating! I was chuffed!

Before I started taking the BC pill again I started with a regimen of ACV twice a day. I've been using it on and off for about a year and found it kept colds and flu at bay, helped me get better quicker and relieved a lot of muscle cramps I get from sitting at a computer all day. NOT to mention the candida probs it helps fix! I am a chronic thrush sufferer and the best "help" I've been able to get from the medical community is "Oh well, some women are just prone to it". YAY! Coming from a male doctor. Ie. "Just deal with it". If you suffer this problem you will know what I mean when I say it can make you beside yourself, on an emotional level, when you can't stop it, get rid of it or even enjoy eating any of the foods you like. And the discomfort of being incredibly itchy ALL the time! Anyway that's a post for the "candida" part of this website. :-) Suffice it to say ACV keeps things in my digestive tract fairly under control, even when I eat known "aggravators".

So I started having 2 Tbsp with about a level tsp of bicarb each morning and evening (for thrush at that stage). I have been back on the pill for a month and a half AND I've been eating all the wrong foods (ie. Pasta, bread, some snacks, pastries and sugary treats at the movies) and my weight remains the same. I'm very surprised. I've found I have a lot more freedom in what I can eat without suffering weight-gain or side effects of digestive complaints. I've also started using it on my face as a toner at night after I cleanse - it was the only thing that helped clear up the massive acne outbreak I had when I went off the pill. I use it straight and apply with a cotton pad, then rinse off after about 20 seconds. Stings a bit but you know it's working!

I can't say enough good things about ACV!"

Thanks again for a fantastic site.

[QUESTION]  01/08/2009: Cindy from Creston, IA writes: "Hi Ted, I was born with just one Kidney and half a Uterus and one tube and ovary on just my right side. I am overweight by about 45lbs and just started the ACV/BS and adding Cinnamon to help with the taste. Is adding cinnamon okay with a little apple juice? Also will this be hard on my one kidney? The only time I have a problem is when I was pregnant and losing some protein, no problems since and not on any medications.

Thank you,
Cindy"

03/01/2009: Shinewin from Hildenview, NC replies: "If you have sensitive skin and body, i suggest you don't use the baking soda. I started two days ago with the apple cider vinegar diet. I had baking soda in my drink and the baking soda burn my throat and makes me cough a lot. So yesterday, I switch to not using the baking soda...and so far so good.

I notices, my appetites had changed since i started drinking this diet drink. No matter how good the food looks or smells, my mouth and stomach tells me "no" to it. The hardest thing to me about getting a diet is my appetite! So apple cider vinegar is a two thumbs up for me. I have a thyroid problems, so when i exercise, I have a hard time breathing. I am glad I found something that can help me lose weight without exercising or starving myself.

I sip some before i eat anything in the morning, and after each meal or snacks, I will sip a little. Sometimes, I don't even finish the whole 32 oz that I made.
My recipe:

2tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1tsp Honey
1tsp Lemon or Lime
1Cup Orange Juice
The rest is water.

I will keep everyone updated on how much weight i will lose in two to three weeks from now. I currently weight 150 to 153."

07/11/2009: Iris from Sanford, Florida replies: "I'm just starting to use ACV to lose weight. I am a bit more than 100 lbs. over weight and that is considered morbid obease. I have been using 1 TB. per 8oz. water with 1/8 tp. of baking soda to cut the tast 3 times a day. I have read about ACV to lose weight for years and I did try it a couple of times but the tast was just to acid for me. Someone suggested I put in a bit of baking soda and see if I could handle the taste of it then. I found it very agreeable.

After only 1 week I haven't noticed much weight loss, but I don't seem to be craving food all the time now and I have found I want less to eat. I have been reading some of the ways to prepare and drink the ACV. I think I may try the large glass and sip instead chugging it down real quick. Like you I'm still in the learning process."

12/15/2008: Donna from Port Huron, MI, USA writes: "I have read with interest many of the comments on ACV and weight loss. To the lady in Michigan who wrote about reading a book by a doctor in Vermont, it is The Arthritis Cure by Dr. Jarvis. I had calcium deposits blocking my nerve endings, causing excruciating pain. The doctors could not diagnose it, but suggested it might be skin arthritis, which is supposedly incurable. I followed his protocol of iodine, kelp, Vitamin C, calcium, honey and ACV and lost most of these calcium deposits within a few weeks. To those of you making comments about losing the pain and symptoms of arthritis and RA, it would be worthwhile to read this book if it is still in print. I do not remember the exact dosages that he recommended. I had read many books about arthritis; his is the only one that worked.

For those of you having trouble with increased appetite and weight gain instead of weight loss, I would suggest you read about eating for your blood type. I had a very difficult time losing weight after menopause; when I began to eat for my blood type (Type O, non-secretor), I lost the weight that I could not lose in any other way. However, for me, it meant giving up a lot of foods, including most grains. My blood type cannot consume any kind of vinegar without having negative effects. I used the ACV because the arthritis was worse than the weight problem.

However, I always found that my appetite increased massively whenever I consumed ACV, whether on an empty stomach or with a meal. If you read books about yeast problems (The Yeast Connection, etc., you will find out that yeast when it dies in your body produces a byproduct that stimulates the appestat, the gland that controls hunger. ACV, especially with the mother, contains yeast. So for some people, this might explain why the ACV does not work. I solved the yeast problem by taking acidophilus, which kills the yeast. This is all explained in more detail in these books.

I feel, though, that the problems of weight gain and appetite increase might be solved by taking baking soda with the ACV, something which I had never heard of. So I am trying that right now. Usually when I take ACV, I have almost immediate hunger cravings, even when I am eating. On an empty stomach it is even worse. But I am drinking this ACV/baking soda combination right now on an empty stomach and I have not had any cravings. So to those of you who tried it and found it did not work, I would suggest you try it again with the baking soda.

Acid reflux is usually helped by adding acid, not by using antacids, so drinking ACV would help with this.

To the person who might be breaking up gall stones in the liver and being in a lot of pain passing those stones, it is a good thing to pass those stones. I passed a lot of them at once, and immediately my energy level increased. Now I understand what is meant by a sluggish liver. But I passed all those stones, hundreds of them in one evening, by using a liver cleanse. There are many of them described on the internet. I found one that used lemon juice, olive oil, grapefruit juice and Epsom salt. I took this at night, woke up in the morning and passed all those stones painlessly, and lost about 3" on my waist overnight. I know that because I had to tighten my belt. The Epsom salt (food-grade) apparently relaxes the muscles enough to open the ducts to allow the stones to pass out easily. I was amazed at their size.

Anyway, I am so grateful for this site and for how much I am learning by everything you have all so generously contributed. Thanks to all of you and to the administrators of this site."

11/08/2008: Gigi from Palm Coast, Florida USA writes: "To the person who is experiencing constipation with ACV use. I, too, had the same experience. But once I got organic ACV, the problem was gone. So, if you're using a supermarket brand, stop using it, and get the Bragg's brand with the mother in it. You will begin to notice all the benefits without detrimental side effects (in fact, it promotes regular bowle movement). Good luck, and remember to drink it with a straw so as to protect tooth enamel. Hope this helps you! Gigi"

11/21/2008: Katherine from Chattanooga, TN replies: "A recent study that I read about in the Sat. Eve. Post reports that brushing your teeth with baking soda and ACV is very good for the teeth and gums and recommends it over baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. So I wouldn't worry about it eroding enamel. My husband and I have been using it for about 3 months and it makes our teeth feel amazingly clean and fresh. Dentist is very pleased and amazed."

11/21/2008: Gigi from Palm Coast, Florida USA replies: "Katherine -- Wow, I have never come across this; only that ACV is acidic and will erode enamel. Please be careful with your teeth. If it works for you, great, but 3 months is early days so make sure the info you have is correct."

11/22/2008: Joyce from St Clair Shores, Michigan replies: "Just a note; If you are worried about the acid erroding your teeth (and you should be) try this: Make a solution of 1tsp baking soda in about 8oz of water and keep on your sink in bathroom. Use this to rinse out your mouth when you drink ACV or Lemon juice etc. My holistic dentist said this takes away the acid in your mouth. It's a safe and easy way to keep your teeth healthy."

11/27/2008: Susan from Atlanta, Georgia, USA replies: "For constipation, I use an acupressure point in the arm. The point is found when you bend the arm - for example, place your right hand on your left shoulder. At the bend of the elbow, use your left hand to locate the acupressure point about halfway between the crease of the bend and the bone. Massage that point for about 15 seconds, then switch to the other arm. Back and forth. I also do this while standing. Usually works within 10 to 15 minutes at most. Also, I have cut out wheat and all gluten grains. I did not think I had a gluten problem but found out that I have that sensitivity."

[YEA]  11/03/2008: Kathy from Bristol, TN writes: "I have been taking ACV/BS/Water for several months now. Loss of 17 lbs is terrific! I've been tapering off the ACV due to the jitters. I drink only filtered or mountain spring water (at least 1 liter) and tea now, no soft drinks, no diet drinks, no aspartame. Occasionally I take BSM. Also take SuperGreens and Magnesium plus flax seed pill. I use only coconut or grape seed oils for any eating/cooking. Gave up sugar, white bread, white flour, am eating organic mostly or home cooking veggies, rice, some chicken, whole wheat breads. Cut way back on proportion size. I use sea salt. Take B compound 3 times a week. Use Turmeric and Oil of Oregano for sinuses/sore throat/cold. I keep my Ph around 7 and walk 3 or 4 times a week. Still I have insomnia, plus now I am SUFFERING WITH CONSTIPATION. Additional fiber makes it much worse. In my life I can only remember being constipated 2 or 3 times and I am over 60. To combat this, I took 2 TBL mineral oil last night, nothing happened. I took 2 more TBL late this morning, still nothing by 11 pm tonight. I am on blood pressure meds (HCTZ and atenolol) plus cymbalta anti depressant. I was taking Lipitor but gave that up recently. Anyone have any thoughts? I have read all the posts on constipation and suppose tomorrow I will try Lime and BS, or maybe tonight. HELP.

THIS IS THE VERY BEST SITE EVER, EVER, EVER! Thank everyone who contributes."

11/04/2008: Joanna from Westport, CT replies: "Kathy, the baking soda might be causing your problem. You might want to cut that out first and see what happens."

11/22/2008: Marjorie Knowles from Las Vegas, NV, USA replies: "To Kathy re: having constipation w/ACV and Baking Soda. I learned as a director of a health retreat that the ans to most constipation problems was very easy. Drink lots and lots of water and walk at least 2 to 3 times a day. Generally within 24 hours the constipation was over. Now continue drinking at least 6 8OZ glassed of water a day and walk or even have a gentle massage or reiki treatment."

11/23/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Kathy, are you drinking plenty of water? At least 8 - 10 glasses a day? Also are you getting any activity, especially walking? If the answer to both of these is yes, then my suggestion is to increase your intake of the dark, leafy green vegetables for a better type of fiber.

I remember one patient who had a fecal impaction, which consisted mostly of popcorn husks (the outer covering of the popcorn kernels). He was somewhat upset because he had been snacking on popcorn quite often to combat his constipation. From the looks of what was removed, he never ate anything but popcorn! Even indigestible fiber can create problems if you don't drink enough water or have a little activity.

I find that when I have a slight problem with constipation, a glass or two of apple juice works like a purgative for me, much quicker and more thorough than prunes or prune juice.

Your dietary changes sound great though. One other thing I just thought of is that many in the medical field say that
magnesium is one of our biggest nutrient deficiencies today, so unless you eat a lot of magnesium rich foods, you might want to consider a magnesium supplement or even an epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) bath a few times a week.."

[YEA]  12/03/2008: Maribel from Miami, Florida replies: "FOR CONSTIPATION:

You go to Whole Foods and in the bulk section you buy OAT BRAN, it's very unexpensive. it is like powder and you just put 1-2 spoonfuls in your cereal or in anything and it's like magic, in less than 1 hour you have a bowel movement and natural not forced like with laxatives."

12/07/2008: Ashlee from Dallas, Texas replies: "For anyone who is taking fiber supplements or eating food high in fiber be sure to drink lots of water or the added fiber can cause severe constipation. I take a fiber supplement and have unfortunately suffered with the constipation problem. I am also taking Chromium Picolate for minor depression and it has made me feel so much better i've heard that it is good for weight loss too but i havent seen any difference. Magnesium is also good for constipation, depression and other problems that have a tendency to pop up it pretty much can cure what ales you since most people do not receive enough magnesium in their diets."

01/17/2009: Angie from Astoria, NY replies: "I was having problems having bowel movements. A friend recommended 2 tbsps of lemon juice in hot water on an empty stomach. It helped so much. I do this everyday and don't have problems anymore. I tried fiber supplements and became bloated with pain."

01/18/2009: Jessica from Dartmouth, Canada replies: "i too had this same problem develope after radical life changes in diet. what i did was to take milk of magnesia as directed and it soon had me moving. then i increased my water intake and made sure i took black strap mollases every 3 or 4 days to stay on track. magnesium is hard for our bodies to take in so even if you take a supplement of it, it doesnt mean that your body is absorbing it. and that was my entire problem a deficiency in magnesium. i hope this helps you"

I am senior who has been using ACV off and on for years, but did not attribute it to anything particular, even though people commented on my skin, I thought that I was just blessed; however, six months ago, I saw an article on the wonders of ACV and baking soda, and thought that I whould try the mixture (which I drank through a straw three times a day, to protect my teeth from the acid), in combination with a daily exercise program, (bally total fitness twister), for weight loss, also to alkalize my blood ph. Well in no time at all, (1 month), I lost those stubborn five pounds that I had been struggling with, and my ph went from 8.0 to 6.8. 03/23/2009: Katie from Fort Collins, Colorado replies: "Just thought I'd make a correction to Blanche's post. To "alkalize" the blood would refer to raising the pH. Going from 8 to 6.8 would be lowering the pH and making the blood more acidic, not more alkaline. Also, the ideal pH for the blood is 7.4, so I'm not sure why you are trying to lower it so much..."

I have about 60lbs I would like to still loose. I would like to stop taking my medication for acid reflux, but I think I need to loose some more weight to. I think that in conjunction with the ACV and baking soda would do the trick. I am also on blood pressure medication and would like to see what happens with that to. I have seen a decrease in my blood pressure since starting the ACV. It will be interesting to see if my dr removes me for this medication to. The one thing I was really hoping for with the ACV and baking soda that I haven't seen an improvement in yet is a reduction in my chronic back pain and pinched nerve. I still have to take something for these two when they flair up. I have scoliosis and I guess this will be something I will have to address differently.
