08/18/2009: Rosie from Glendale, Az writes: "TERRIFYING CONGESTION
I USED THE ACV DRINK (I USE IT FOR NAUSEA ALL THE TIME - ICE COLD, SIPPING IT...IT WORKS GREAT! ALSO, MY FATHER LOST 20 POUNDS WITHIN TWO MONTHS JUST DRINKING IT ABOUT FIVE OR SIX TIMES A DAY - BUT HE OVERDID EVERYTHING...)
IT GAVE "SOME" RELIEF, BUT i WAS IN A PANIC ATTACK FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE. THEN I USED THE TOMATO TEA....SHIVER!!! BUT I DRANK MOST OF IT AND IT ALSO HELPED...BUT WHEN I WENT TO LIE DOWN, I WAS STUFFED UP AGAIN WITHIN A FEW MINUTES!
THEN I USED THE COMBINATIN OF BAKING SODA, SALT AND WARM WATER IN A NETI POT (SMALL TEA POTS WORK, TOO)
AND NOW I FINALLY CAN BREATHE. BUT IT HAS BEEN ONLY ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES. LONGEST YET. ALSO, I USED THE ENTIRE CUP OF WARM WATER....
I HAVE ALL OF THE RECIPES COPIED, EACH ON A POST-IT SHEET, LINED UP ACROSS THE EDGE OF MY STOVE VENT-TOP....IF THIS ONE LETS ME DOWN, I AM ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
AT LEAST I HAVE SOMETHING TO KEEP MY PANIC ATTACKS BACK. I REALLY BEGIN TO PANIC BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE ASTHMA AND A HEART CONDITION...SO WHEN I PANIC, IT STARTS IT ALL UP... AND I GET VERY FRIGHTENED. SO IF I HAVE TO GO DOWN THE LINE, I WILL. I AM WILLING TO STAY UP ALL NIGHT AND 'REMEDY' MYSELF.
IF THIS ONE IS THE 'WINNER' I WILL CERTAINLY RETURN WITH MY VERDICT.
I THANK GOD FOR THIS SITE. HE CAN GIVE ME RELIEF DIRECTLY, BUT HE ALSO USES PEOPLE....AND I THINK HE DID JUST THAT THIS TIME.
THANK YOU!

[YEA] Ange from Houston writes: "Having suffered with persistent sinus congestion and allergies, here's what has helped me tremendously.
1) Stopped eating dairy.
2) Take at least 2000 mg Omega 3 oil daily.
3) Take turmeric supplements daily (amount varies.)
4) Strong multi-vitamin and mineral daily.
5) Chinese medicine: Jade Screen and Xanthium during my worst allergy season (spring)
6) Acupuncture: 2 times weekly during spring, once every two weeks the rest of the year.
7) Homeopathic tablets for times when I have brief allergic symptoms: Allium cepa for runny nose, Euphrasia officinalis for itchy eyes. I use all the above and it has eliminated my allergies except for one or two bad days in the spring. As a side benefit, stopping dairy also cleared up the joint pain I was having in my fingers."

NETI POT REMEDY

[YEA] 11/16/2009: Jennifer from Dallas, Tx writes: "Nasal Irrigation/Neti Pot for Sinus Congestion
I developed a terrible cold over the weekend. Sore throat, drainage, etc. As the cold cleared up I developed a terrible sinus headache due to congestions behind my left eye. I am very prone to these type of headaches. I was already doing cayenne & ACV for the sore throat, but my head was still killing. My mom has used a neti pot in the past and suggested that I try that. Not having a neti pot on hand, I tried nasal irrigation using a bulb syringe. My headache was gone immediately. Will definitely be doing this every time I feel a sinus headache coming on.
I used a mixture of 1/4 ts salt in 2 c luke warm water. Fill the syringe as completely as you can. Lean slightly forward, insert the tip of the syringe approx. 1 in into nostril, and angle tip towards outside of eye. Squeeze syringe to flush saline mixture. Allow the saline mixture to drain back out (may drain through other nostril or back of throat). Repeat twice on each side."

[YEA] 06/14/2008: Jennie from Stony Brook, New York writes: "I have had a terrible cold with sinus congestion, and couldn't get any sleep last night. I had always found the idea of nasal irrigation a little "icky," but out of desperation I decided to try it. I mixed 1 teaspoon of salt in a large coffee mug (sorry I don't know the ounces!). I don't have a neti pot, so I used a drinking straw to pick up the solution and drop it in my nostrils. It took me a couple tries to figure out how to get it to come out my other nostril instead of going down my throat (spit it out when this happens), but I got it. The result is amazing! I can breathe clearly, and I just wish I had tried this last night when I couldn't sleep!"

He used a 'nose biday (sp?)' with warm salt water. I found in my house a sippy cup with a straw attatched. Stand over the sing. Tip your head sideways and pour the warm mixture in & up that nostril...until it starts coming out the other nostril. I found it helpful to push the back of my tongue up against the back of my throat so it wouldn't come down my throat. When the mixture starts coming out of the opposite nostil, stop. Do the other side. The blow the hell out of your nose. IT WORKS! OMG I was so happy to HEAR again after a week!!"

[YEA] 01/07/2007: A.C. from Atlanta, GA writes: "I had a cold for about a week and a half. It finally developed into one of the worst sinus infections I have ever had---to top it off, I am 6 months pregnant. After 2 days of pure misery, I went to the doctor. He gave me an rx for an antiobiotic. After 2 days of taking it and pseudoephedrine round the clock, I was still miserable. My head pounded, my nose was totally clogged on both sides, and my head felt like it was going to explode. Desperate to try anything, I went to Walgreens and purchased "SinuCleanse"--a product complete with a neti pot and saline packets. I used it every 2 hours for the first day, along with drinking the ACV/water mixture 2x's/day, and by the second day, I had relief. I could breathe and could tell my head was starting to clear up! By far the best thing that I had tried! Thanks for your website! It has helped tremendously!"

I finally moved out of the house I lived in. It took two years for the headache to go away, ecept that in the spring they came back. It led me on along journey to health. I changed my diet to a healthy one. Fruits and veg. less red meat, more fish, pork and chicken. I also juiced and now grow seeds. in a jar for salads. One of the best things I did was the netti pot to clean my sinuses, especially when the allergie season came. I also made a tea with sliced garlic, and filtered water, (1clove in 1cup water). let it cool and put it in a spray bottle. I used it to spray my throat and nasal passages. Garlic is a antibaterial. You can use oregano too.(1tsp.in 8ozs.water) I do this when ever I feel a cold or a soar throat coming on. The next day its gone. If your ears hurt use 3% pure hydrogen peroxide. A few drops in ea. ear. I haven't been sick for three years now. Recently I read a website about vitamin A. It is so vital to our mucus membranes. My thoughts are that maybe we are defficient in vit. A. I think that everyone who has allergies should read that site. She was a very important figure in nutrition after world war I or II. I recently went on cod liver oil pills.(vit A} I remember years ago mothers gave 1tsp. of cod liver oil to their children. Why, I don't know. Adelle Davis has old books on health an nutrition. My elderly Aunt told me about her. Its amazing what you can heal yourself, with the knowledge. Research is everthing. Dr.Oz, on Opha said, if you give the body what it needs, the body has the amazing ability to heal itself, and I never forgot that. Life is wonderful."

NIACIN

[YEA] 02/11/2011: V from Seattle, Wa writes: "Niacin for sinus problems
I had not taken niacin for a long time. I also have a cold. One of those icky sinus congesting colds. My mouth is dry and my snot is thick and sticky and yellow (sorry for the imagery). I just took a high dose of niacin (1000mg) and when it kicked in and my body began to flush I had the urge to blow my nose and when I did my sinuses cleared out completely and they have not been this clear in over a week). I'm not 100% sure if niacin is related to my sinuses clearing but the odds of them clearing out for the first time in a week within 20 minutes of taking niacin would be low. After my niacin flush began to disapear my sinuses began to congest again. This could be a coinsidence but I don't think so.
If you have not taken niacin before you should know that it will make your capiliaries open and when they do blood flows much more easily. Because your capiliaries have expanded they are larger and more blood flows through and you can see this happen as your body turns pink/red. You can also feel the increase in blood flow with a tingling/itchy feeling as well as a warm/hot sensation which are due to vastly improved circulation. These sensations will not appear imediately, they will build up over a ten to twenty minute time period. Because the heat and itching will gradually increase do not be alarmed, after 10-20 minutes the effect will plateu and then decrease and the effect will be over, no matter how unpleasant it was.
I do not recomend taking niacin for the first time at least 2-3 hours before an event or meeting friends because the reddening of your skin may embarass you if you are not used to it (even if you are used to it, I can tell you it is not a flattering look, lol). Also while niacin itself (as far as I know) does not interfere with sleep the itching feeling can make it difficult to fall asleep if not impossible or may wake you if you fall asleep before it kicks in, so I do not reccomend taking it before bed until you know if you can sleep with it."

OIL OF OREGANO

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 08/10/2010: Demetrius from Austell, Ga, Usa writes: "I have been suffering from post nasal discharge from one nostril for more than 15 years I had surgery 3 times but the problem persists to the point that has made my life miserable and quite embarassing since I have to deal with clearing the back of my throat from thick mucous that gets stuck there and requires a lot of coughing and effort to be cleared. I was reading some of the entries about certain remedies and I got interested in the remedy with the oregano. I went to my local herb shop to buy the liquid oregano but I found a nose spray which contains the essential oils of oregano, bay leaf, sage and clove in a sea water base. I tried it out and has made a big difference my problem did not go away but the phlegm is less thicker easier to clear and plus my problem sinus side feels less obstructed than before. It has to be the oregano."

[YEA] 12/03/2006: Jennifer from Albuquerque, NM writes: "I tried ACV, the spicy tomato tea, the onion halves with brown sugar, and the garlic soup. Especially the tomato tea and ACV brought some temporary relief from a month-long cough and sinus congestion that I'd had almost as long. As far as I'm concerned, though, the #1 choice and remedy should be Oil of Oregano. I bought a jar last Tues. and began taking three per day with meals. I am so encouraged and feel at least 95% well again. After doing some research on it I now know that this is an amazing product! Perhaps it doesn't work the same for everyone but it has done so much for me in six days. I've also been using a good quality colloidal silver in a nasal spray bottle. This has probably worked alongside the Oil of Oregano for the sinus congestion. It cured a month-long cough/bronchitis and sinus congestion. I'm wondering now if I could have increased the dosage of Oil of Oregano to say four a day. I've stayed at 3/day since I couldn't find any info. to let me know if more would be too much of a good thing. Any thoughts on that?"

I have had suffered sinus problems and after OP it has cured them. I have felt this calmness that I havent felt for A LONG TIME. The problem in life is that you get told so many solutions to health issues that you dont know which one to choose. I just think that the remedies that make you think "thats disgusting I dont want to try it" are the ones that really work. I feel that especially sinus sufferers are prone to mood swings, feeling low and feeling drained that OP is a BREATHE OF FRESH AIR (that sounds good!). Within 2 minutes....yes!! 2 minutes! my nose opened up, and I could breathe!!! I started feeling more alert in my mind, and I was so shocked. I just spit out the solution a few minutes ago...... and I brushed my teeth, and Im going to drink the 2 to 3 glasses of water. I will post again soon. I will do it again tonight. Thanks!!!"

I will keep up on the OP daily in hopes that it will clear up my skin. This OP is amazing."

My congestion, and the amount of mucus that was coming out when I blow my nose has been alot. I started wondering if I might have a sinus infection, so I thought I'd try oil pulling. Did it once in the afternoon yesterday, and once in the evening, and suddenly realized that, for the first time in a week, I could breathe clearly. Have done it twice today, and have just experienced a strange thing: I blew my nose and the mucus came out bright yellow, like egg yolk. I have never seen anything like this, and was wondering if Ted or any readers could comment?"

I guess for chronic sinus or bad infections with headaches and sinus pain- the cayenne would be more powerful .
but if your desperate enough and do not have it at hand, try my method might work for you."

REMEDIES NEEDED

10/31/2011: Zeninfinity from Santa Rosa, Ca, Usa writes: "Hi,
About 2 weeks ago I was feeling a little congested in my ears and decided pop them by holding my nose and blowing out, like I have always done in the past with no problems.
Well, I had my first episode of vertigo and it totally freaked me out. The room rocked back and forth for about 2 minutes. I was in shock for about 10 minutes after it stopped and then broke out in a sweat all over my body.
It's 2 weeks later and I am clogged even more. I have tried, tomato tea, hydrogen peroxide in the ear, inhaling hp (Bill's method), grapefruit seed extract/neti pot, acv, hot showers etc etc etc. It's only on my right side and it starting to get me very depressed that I cannot shake this thing.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks ahead of time!"
Replies10/31/2011: Bobby from Thousand Oaks, Ca replies: "Don't give up on the Hydrogen Peroxide!!!! . Use a ear bulb / syringe with Very WARM/hot water after the H. P. Soak. It's just wax. Be persistent. 20 min soak and wash the ear out with the hottest water you can stand using the ear bulb or syringe. Might take days, but the H. P. will bubble and pop as you lay on your side, not to worry. A Doctor or a trip to a clinic will charge you lots of $$$$. You can do it yourself!"
10/31/2011: Alexandra from Cheshire, England replies: "Hi Zeninfinity, sorry to hear about your congestion, I know how you feel because I used to get very bad sinus congestion, and often had earache and deafness. Once when I visited the doctor he said it was ear wax, and that I should put olive oil in my ear then go back and have them syringed by the nurse. I went back a few days later, still totally deaf, only to be told by the nurse that there was no wax in them to clear! She brought another doctor in who gave me a prescription for catarrh (can't remember the name of the medicine sorry) but it cleared it in a couple of days. I used this medicine quite a few times, but gradually it didn't seem to be as effective.I did find out (years later), through some other problems I was having, that I have an intolerance to milk. After giving up milk (sad because I love cheese) my catarrh and blocked ears vanished. I have had cattarrh very occasionally since then but I can usually pinpoint it to something I have eaten which contained milk.
I should mention that earlier this year a friend persuaded me to try raw milk. I was very nervous about doing this, but I found I did not have a reaction to it. So I have it occasionally on cereals, but never cooked or in hot drinks.
I also found that eating garlic and vitamin C is useful for clearing catarrh. Putting your head over a bowl of hot water and covering with a towel for a few minutes may help, then blow nose - gently.
I hope you find something that works for you soon. Do post if you find a solution. Alexandra."
11/01/2011: Robert from Houston, Tx replies: "I too suffered from hearing loss recently due to ear congestion and tried numerous remedies to no avail - even some otc drugs like Afrin nasal spray & Mucinex-D that an audiologist who cleaned the wax from my ears recommended. The otc drugs didn't really seem to help either. I came across a reference to a homeopathic nasal spray containing capsaicin called Sinus Buster in a thread about candida yeast. I began using it and in a few days the ear congestion started to clear after I would spray my nostrils with it and then hold my nostrils closed while trying to push air out through them to make my ears pop. I heard all kind of snap, crackle and pop going on in my head as the congestion broke down. Even people near me could hear the popping. The pepper spray burns slightly for several seconds due to the capsaicin spray but the relief definitely makes the mild discomfort worthwhile.I later read somewhere (perhaps here) about applying milk of magnesia to the inside of the nose. I didn't have any on hand so I tried using magnesium oil in my nostrils. It too seems to help a lot in breaking down congestion, especially when I hold my nostrils closed to make my ears pop. Best wishes. I hope that these remedies will work as well for you as they did for me. I know very well what an ordeal you are going through."
11/01/2011: Sandra from Atlanta, Georgia replies: "I've also experience ear aches when I have milk (even organic milk or goat milk) as well as other dairy products. I would experience congestion and sinus problem that cause my teeth to ache as well as ear pain that felt like pin pricks all the way to what I can only describe as a sharp zapping pain in my ear canal and along my ear lobe (almost like the shock/zap you get when you have static built up and touch something or some one and they say "Hey you shocked me"; but instead of a hand this pain is inside the ear canal) I used to go to the doctor to get antibiotics before I learned better. Now I try to avoid dairy but when I don't, I use N-------tics Ear Drop with Grapeseed extract. Just place 3 or 4 drops directly in the ear so it runs down inside the ear canal; I only use it when needed when I start feeling the stuffy nose and get the feeling where my ears start to feel itchy or clogged. I only use it for 2 or 3 days in the morning and at bed time. This works for me so well that I haven't had to take any antibiotics since I started using it."

10/11/2011: Kalki from Mumbai, India writes: "I have had several allergic bouts throughout my life. Now I find that I am waking up every night between 2:30 and 4am with a leaky nose and an itching, aching soft upper palate. I can even feel sharp indendations and rough texture up there, with my tongue. (The texture is smooth at other times). It hurts, especially when I swallow. The only thing that helps it is when I breathe in and out forcefully through the nose sounding like a stalled truck. It feels like an itch is being relieved. Needless to say, the family does not appreciate all this noise in the middle of the night.
This happens for a few days and then stops and starts up again some days later. Has been happening for about two months now. I've tried sleeping early and late but the time frame is still the same.
This is nothing like I have experienced before and believe me I have gone through the entire range of allergic symptoms at different times. I just can't go back to sleep with the whole area throbbing and aching. So I sit up and read till I'm so sleepy I just drop off.
Any idea what this may be? Any suggestions?"
Replies02/11/2012: Rachel from Pittsburgh, Pa replies: "No one talks about this but colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic and was used before antibiotics came out in the 1940s. You can take it orally, 2 oz or more at a time, and spray it into your nose, like Afrin or such. If you do this 5x a day for 2 days the infection will be gone."
