LYSINE, VITAMIN C, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, VASELINE
[YEA] 12/22/2008: Diane from Raleigh, NC writes: "I have had a terrible struggle with severe rosacea on my face, eyes, and neck the past few months, along with seborrheic dermatitis on and behind my ears. This attacked with a vengeance at age 50 after a lifetime of no significant skin problems. The onset was after a serious illness, possibly autoimmune, so it seems it was facilitated by a compromised immune system. After getting progressively worse following my dermatologist's recommendations, I started reading and researching everything I could get my hands on. There were many days I wouldn't even leave the house because my face and eyes were so raw and swollen. My facial features were nearly unrecognizable as my own, and I was truly desperate, and was terribly afraid I would never look normal again. I finally seem to have found a combination of remedies that have almost miraculously returned my skin to its former (smooth, soft, unblemished, not red) self, and I am praying that there is no relapse.
So far, so good, and I wanted to share what I am doing.
1).I am taking 4-5 lysine 1000 mg.tablets daily (2-3 a.m. & p.m.) along with several grams of vitamin C daily
2). After washing with a mild facial cleanser morning & evening, I follow with a ACV straight out of the bottle all over the affected areas applied with a cotton ball.
3) After 5 minutes, I rinse off the ACV, pat dry, and apply vaseline all over my face & neck. The results have been amazing! I don't know this for fact, but IF rosacea is caused by mites, I think that the vaseline may smother them, but I'd love to hear Ted's thoughts on this. As heavy as vaseline is, at night on rosacea-ravaged skin it is soothing and nicely absorbed, and you may be able to go a little lighter in the morning. This has been a godsend for me, and I would love to know if anyone else tries it and what their results are. I will post an update after awhile to see if I remain clear."
04/09/2009: Ashok from Bangalore, India replies: "I would like to add that vaseline may not be good for everyone as I did the same mistake and then was told by my doctor that vaseline can in fact block the pores and may aggravate the problem. Instead, he asked me to use another cream to treat the flakes on my facial skin which has resulted from Rosacea and Seborrheic Dermatitis. I will try though Borax treatment and hopefully rid myself of this condition. Thanks to all the people who are helping others with their comments and experiences."
04/10/2009: Che from Roxas City, Phil replies: "Reply for Diane You did the right thing by your choice of remedies for your rosecea. Just this month, i had the same issue on my face and neck my remedy was 50 % hydrogen peroxide and 50 % ACV. The next morning its all gone as if nothing appeared."

[YEA] 09/11/2009: Marilynn from Winston-salem, North Carolina writes: "I have had rosacea for ten years now. It started duing perimenopause. It has devastated me quite often when there is a social event or even a trip to the store. I went to a dermotologist and he recommended a topical gel. That worked for a while but later on it seemed to aggravate it worse than before. I tried several of the rememedies on this site and I found that apple cider vinegar made my skin quite dry whether I used it topically or drank it. After endless searching on the internet, I found a site that talked about manuka honey. I have taken a teaspoon of honey three times a day 30 minutes before a meal. I washed my face with it and every other day add a teaspoon of brown sugar. If the mixture is too dry only add a drop of water. It is amazing what it has done to my skin. I am now writing to you with a clear complexion and only a very very slight pink to my face. I read that even though the mites are to blame sometimes h. pylori in our stomach contributes to it too. I wish you all well and hopes that this also helps you."

[YEA] Caroline from Keller, Texas writes: "I recently went on the "Master Cleanse" and after only 3 days noticed a drastic change in the appearance of my rosacea redness. My skin had a creamy white appearance with tight pores that I have not experienced since I was in my 20's (I am 38). I only lasted 5 days on this detox/cleanse but my initial intent was weight loss. What a wonderful side effect! I am not sure if these will be lasting effects or not. Only time will tell. Since most people believe that rosacea is a result of PH I believe quite possibly this could be a possible cure. I am not sure of the exact life cycle of the demodex mite. I am speculating if a person could stay on the cleanse long enough to cover the life cycles then that would end up being a viable solution to the problem."

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED
[NAY] 03/17/2009: Lucinda from Dayton, Ohio, USA writes: "I have had rosacea for about 1 & 1/2 years. I am 55 and always had very clear skin all my life, never bothered by lots of acne like most teens. So it has been very frustrating and depressing for me to have this nasty stuff on my face. I am allergic to many antibiotics so I never took that "remedy". My dermatologist confirmed the diagnosis of rosacea and gave me a couple of perscriptions for topical products. I used them until they ran out but never renewed them as I did not see any improvements. I have tried several natural products: aloe, hydrogen peroxside, rubbing alcohol, a tea tree oil acne treatment and some products I got off the web that are all natural. Nothing is working and it just seems to get worse. I am going to try your ACV and HP recipe.
I often feel like putting a bag over my face when I leave the house. I hate the way I look with these "pimples" on my face. I wanted to pass along a couple of tips. Never scrub your face with a cloth. This tends to aggravate the rosacea. I always just use my fingers and just pat my face dry - never rub. Secondly, ladies, try using a makeup that is all mineral and in powder form. I use the original mineral makeup and it never clogs your pores and it covers the bumps very well.
I'll leave feedback after I have tried your solutions."
04/13/2009: Andrew from Vancouver, Canada replies: "For the last five days, I have been applying _____ 45 SPF Clear Zinc Oxide to my face in morning for sun protection. The redness on my cheeks appears to be subsiding rapidly since commencing application. Really. Maybe others will have a similar experience. I will continue to put it on my face in the morning. I will report back in a few weeks. In the meantime, if you want to try the product, a small 1oz pot can be ordered online for a measely few bucks."
05/03/2009: Andrew from Vancouver, Canada replies: "It has been over a week since i posted. I am pleased to say that my redness is continuing to subside. I cannot be sure whether it is the zinc oxide, though it seems plausible. I am take borax powder internally and externally ala Ted's recommendations. I have been using borax for about 45 days."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/19/2009: Lucinda from Dayton, Ohio, USA replies: "I have been using the apple cider vinegar applied topically on my face (directly from the bottle with a cotton ball) since my first posting (3/17/2009). I also was drinking it (i Tbspn in juice twice daily) for the first month or so. Then I added the 1000mg L-Lysine + 1000mg Vir C taken 1/2 dose twice daily that was recommended by another posting on this website. I do not rinse off the ACV. When it dries I apply a moisturizer for sensitive skin. I have seen a 90% improvement. It's not gone, but is so much better. Still get bumps in my T-zone (forehead, nose, chin, but can't complain too much. I plan to try the borax and baking soda solutions also. I would love to see this rosacea go away completely! Thanks to everyone for their solutions. This is a great website!"

[NAY] 10/24/2008: Yosh from New York, NY, USA writes: "Hi, I'm new at this site, so please forgive me if I make a boo boo.
This posting is regarding rosacea.
I've been suffering with what seems to be rosacea for ahout 4 years now. My derm dr. is not 100% sure. Pathologist says it could be rosacea or whatever else I forgot. Dr. gave me metrogel and other topicals, a whole bunch of them, but nothing helped, except to make the matter worse. I quit going to the doctors for this problem.
Currently, I'm using only Jojoba oil on my face, because my face has become so sensitive to anything, I can't even put Zenmed cream for sensitive skin.
I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, for which I take strong medications, such as Humira, methotrexate, prednisone, plaquenil. With all 4 combined, my sed rate is still soaring above 100.
Recently, I found out that I was heavily mercury poisoned, as well as aluminum poisoned. That is probably causing me all sorts of medical problems.
After removing the amalgams, I went to a NAET acupuncture treatment to help elliminate allergies. After each treatment, my face flared up, like my capillaries might burst, and after 5 sessions, my face has gotten so bad, developed chronic situations, and I'm now in desperate search for cure.
My problem is that I react to almost every treatment, supplement, and remedies. (it is always my face that react. Why?) So I'm being very careful.
My detox specialist says that (he uses kinesiology) my face is a result of aluminum poisoning, and that the toxins are coming out of my facial skin. So then he gave me some tinctures to take care of the problem, and now my face is all swollen like moon face.
I would like to try some of the remedies mentioned here, but I don't know which one is best, since I am so sensitive to everything. Any suggestions? Any advice?
Just to give you more idea, I've been going to colonics regulary for about a year now. My diet is pretty much vegetarian, and my Ph is.. as far as my saliva is concerned, it's about 6.8.
After the NAET crisis, I seem to have developed ocular rosacea. This scares me. I'd appreciate your help!!!
Thanks!"
10/28/2008: Catherine from Wellington, New Zealand replies: "Reply to Yosh..You sound in dire straits. It might be worth a look at www.watercure.com , at least there are no supplements involved in that therapy. Good luck"
09/08/2009: Eh from Atlanta, Ga replies: "I starting having problems with Rosacea about 10 years ago -- not severe, but enough to make me self-conscious. When I started taking a Probiotic for my candida, it also helped my rosacea. It is all but gone at this point, even though I still have very sensitive skin. A naturopath that I know well says "the state of your colon affects every part of your body, including your skin." Make sure you take the kind of probiotic that is refrigerated (live bacteria). I take one that has 3 different types in it -- can't mention brand names here, but I "swear" by this one. It works wonders!"
09/09/2009: Abby from Cincinnati, Ohio replies: "How long have you been taking prednisone? It can cause a moon face, weight gain, and a myriad of other problems. I was on low dose prenisone for 15 years for lupus and it caused me more problems than the lupus. I would research your meds to see if they could be causing the problems with your skin."

[YEA] 12/03/2007: Sara from Chattanooga, TN writes: "Hello, I have been trying to figure out how to cure/reduce my rosacea symptoms for years now. I finally think I have come across something that works. My daily regimen includes a host of vitamins Vitamin B complex, Selenium, Vitamin A, Amino Acids, Zinc and Omega 3's. I *really* noticed a difference with the addition of Selenium. I found sulfur soap at Dollar General for around 1.75 or so and use that every day. I moisturize only with aloe and also tone my skin with colloidial silver or copper. This combination seems to have worked."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/05/2008: Christine from Pasadena from Pasadena, Ca writes: "Hello friends, I said I would update, so I am. Apple cider vinegar seemed to dry up my dermititis for the first week, but because I was out in the sun my rash was bad yesterday and was an angry red. I tried a product that I am very excited about; it is call Prosacea and has reduced nearly all the redness of my rash within 24 hours. If you have very sensitive skin it might not suit you, but for the average roseacea, pod sufferer it has done great things for me so far.I bought it at Walgreens for about $11.00. I just looked in the mirror I and I am so very relieved that this terrible rash might really be behind me. I did the apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil and the grapefruit supplements; this is the first thing that I see an improvement that lasts. My dermatologist will prescribe Finacea for me but I cannot get in until the end of May and I want these lesions off my face! Blessings, Chris"
[NAY] 07/17/2008: Gloria from San Antonio, TX replies: "I have reallty bad rosacea. I bought prosacea at HEB, and yes the results were positive at first; however, the more I used it, the less it seemed to help. I still had flare-ups, and it made my skin extremely dry and itchy. I stopped using it altogether. I am actually looking forward to some of the remedies on this web site. I hope to report some change soon. Good Luck finding a remedy that helps with your rosacea."
[NAY] 10/05/2008: Mari from Atlanta, GA replies: "I tried Prosacea for 3 days-I look worse than ever! My skin flared up, bigger postules than I'd ever seen in a flare up & tons of surrounding tiny zits that weren't previoiusly on my face. I stopped smearing the Prosacea in and took antihistamines to combat the "rage" my skin was in. I've tried using aveeno claming but it just held the pain in place. Neosporin has seemed to help heal the "wounds". I tried aloe 1x but the after-sun blend I had on hand burned & I had to wash it off after just an hour. Now, a week later, I'm peeling and zitty but at least I don't have the huge puss-filled explosions I had had. Prosacea made talking to others, even walking my dog, something I wanted to wear a veil for. "
[NAY] 10/17/2008: CJ from San Jose, California replies: "I tried prosacea for about 2 weeks. I applied it 3 times a day, once when waking up, once in the middle of the day, and again before going to sleep. I dont have acne, just redness on the cheeks and nose. I applied it to only the left side of my face to see if it was making a difference. It made a very minor, almost unnoticeable difference. It definately does not work and it caused my skin to react in bad ways after a few days of use. Not too bad, but I started getting tiny little zits and red spots. There is nothing special about it, its just sulfer in a bottle.
p.s. I have noticed that there are alot of people on here posting from Thailand (well only 2 so far but that is unusual for the amount of people here). I went to Thailand last year for a month and 2 months later when I returned, I developed rosacea. I did not ever have rosacea before and never had flushing or blushing in my cheeks or anything like that. I wonder if there is a connection between the weather in Thailand, the showers on the islands (which are accumulated rain water) or any other factors specifically in Thailand that may be affecting tourists with fair skin that may not affect the normal thai population."

By the way, i use pure English lavender on my face now and the result has seen a remarkable change in the redness!, my sympathies to all sufferers!"

[YEA] 11/19/2008: Stacy from Oklahoma City, OK, USA writes: "Keratosis Pilaris, acne, rosacea, etc
I used to have many health ailments, many of which I have read about here. The only thing that works to cure them and keep them away is a raw diet. When eating a raw diet, you avoid most of the foods that cause the problems in the first place. Consuming too much cooked proteins, especially wheat and dairy, causes disease. Cooking the proteins makes them difficult for the body to break down the protein. The excess proteins clog up the lymph and other organs of elimination causing an over growth of bacteria (colds, cysts, etc.)which in turn causes disease. The disease usually shows up in the weakest organs that have usually been abused the most from a wrong diet. There is a wealth of info at waisays.com and barefoots forum at curezone.com. Herbs are a great way to aid in healing. When you just start cleansing and eating a raw diet, they can help you heal faster. Just wanted to mention this. Thanks and have a great day!"

1 SIDE EFFECT
[YEA] 10/16/2009: Dave from USA writes: "I have tried many things for the rosacea on my nose. It was getting to the point where I was thinking WC Fields every time I looked in the mirror. While treating my toes with fungi cure I thought why not, so I started paining it on my nose morning and night for 2 weeks. The first night I put it on my nose I noticed that my hairline and my eyebrows started to get itchy right away. I suspect I sent the little bugs scattering on my face. Its now cleared up and I follow up with tea tree oil at bedtime and every time it gets itchy. I put the tea tree on my eyebrows and scalp line and ears as well. Now 6 weeks later and I can see the faint scar that was not visible after the break out. No more WC fields when I look in the mirror, what a relief. I have my old or new nose back.
WARNING
When I was panting the underside of my nose the bristles flicked upwards splashing a tiny bit in my eye and it really burned. Be very careful around your eyes.
Good luck to all."

[YEA] 11/27/2007: Julie from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Tea tree oil can help rosacea. Not sure if it can erradicate it completely, but it does help kill off the adult mites. You need to use it religiously, every day. (I use it several times a day!) Since the demodex mites keep reproducing you need to keep applying TTO to keep the next generation from growing into adults. For example, if you only apply it one time, say, you may kill some for that day but the lifecycle of these stubborn mites is about 15-20 days. Also, try not to wear foundation makeup during this time, you need to get this out of your skin! Also, don't "feed" the mites by applying any nutritional things such as coconut oil, and other vitamin-rich lotions. I'm still doing research but this is the best natural way I have found so far. Try it!"
06/28/2008: Rita from Itasca, IL replies: "Tea Tree Oil remedy for Rosacea...
I have a question regarding the suggestion of Tea Tree Oil for help with my rosacea. I want to try it and I have purchased a bottle of the oil but it states to not put it directly on the skin. Since others have had success with it I want to make sure I follow the same procedure. Does the oil go directly on the skin or was it mixed with something? Thanks."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 11/19/2008: Fren from London, UK replies: "I have been using 100%TTO with cotton bud [burns] or directly with hand massage, for 31days now, on my mild pustular ROSACEA-face and 50/50with olive oil on eye scrub for swallen eyelid and cappilaries on ezelids and in both eyes[I had demodex dandruffs between eyelashes now just swallen eyelids and cappilaries] and on my tiny pound big ECZEMA on my left trunk site [which appeared now and then since I was putting LOCACID on my face[cont. bit corticoid]year ago].
My face has improved a bit, but red pustular pimples still keep coming [NOT SURE IF PIMPLES EQUAL DEATH of DEMODEX or the fact the TTO IS NOT WORKING!????], just smaller and not so painfull, as well as redness still comes now and then.
But what weird thing happened...my ECZEMA got bigger{big red patch after shower, otherwise several brownish marks/dry eczema-rush] and keeps spreading in a form of red underskin sometimes very itchy rush, visible especially after shower, travelling from side to middle where it stays, and also little rush on the right side.
I keep putting 100%TTO all over it after shower, before bedtime, in the morning it is invisible apart of brownish ekzema patches on left or it is itchy until I put TTO...it is not getting any better, but I am afraid to put any oil or cream so I am not feeding the DEMODEX???? or some other parazite. ...was spending past year mostly in the bed writing on laptop...so something could develop around my lower back, I quess...and now visible thanks to TTO???
I would like to know if anyone has similar experience or if TED from B. would know what it could be and how to cure it...?
Also if there is anything else what I could take internally to kill DEMODEX -PARAYITES OF ALL SORTS[flaxseed oil I know, does not do anything for me unfortunatelly...]Many thanks for any info and thanks for reading."

10/09/2009: Christine from Grimsby, Ontario, Canada writes: "I have a question for Ted? What do you mean by saturated solution of 1% hydrogen peroxide and borax? When I put any amount of borax in the hydrogen peroxide it does not dissolve but gets hard. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks! I have been using this only on my face for about a week and I notice my nose is less red. I am wondering if it makes sense to take borax with apple cider vinegar as one is an acid and the other a base. Wouldn't they neutralize each other out?"
10/09/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "A staurated borax is when the borax dissolves completely. Start with about 1/2 teaspoon borax to 1 tablespoon hp. Then start to add 1 tsp hp at a time till the borax dissappears while you are stirring it. You will still feel the slight grating of the borax on your skin even though you won't be able to see it. Using a drop of tea tree oil or neem oil should speed up the processs. The mites don't like either and the neem oil helps reduce reproduction of them."
10/09/2009: Debra from Adairville, Ky replies: "Where can I get the borax and what is the recipe and dosage for fibro? thanks"
EC: More about Borax: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/borax.html
10/24/2009: Charlie from Galway, Ireland replies: "Hi Tricia from Ireland,Where is the best place to get borax and HP from over the counter in Ireland, I have Rosacea mostly over my face and area and would be very interested to try the mix suggested in this forum."
10/26/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "Hi, Charlie, Your local chemist supplies both. They are kept behind the counter so you have to ask for them. The hydrogen peroxide seems to be only availablle(or I can only get it so far) in 6% vol so I have to use mineral or ditilled water in the mix. Borax is also gotten from the chemist but not always so easily available but they should be able to order it for you. Some may ask what you want it for. I personally didn't want to explain in a shop full of people what I wanted it for so I said it was for making a homemade washing powder with washing soda. Yor can explain away the peroxide by saying it is for cleaning purposes. It can be used for cleaning counter tops or as a bleach would etc.
The brand I used is Ricesteele in Tallaght for both. Borax was only available from these and I rang the company in Dublin and checked that it is pure borax with nothing added. They said it is. I checked their peroxide for stabilisers as per Teds instructions (HP:Water 1:9 and leave on a windowsill in sunshine to look for yellow colour......waited 5 days for sunshine) and it stayed clear.I'm afraid you will only be able to get small quantities. 100g of borax and 250ml hp.
If you ever find it in larger quantities please let me know where as I hate buying on the internet and believe in buying local anyway."

09/06/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "In the same way that mosquitoes don't attack everyone, demodex mites are probobly the same way. people that suffer from these parasites have many different ractions - some have pimples some don't. Ted does explain in one of his posts that children don't contract the mite because their skin hasn't got the same sebacuos(wrong spelling, I know) oils as adults. I would imagine that because of shaving a man would only suffer this on his nose and ears if he did contract them."

I believe in natural remedies, do not like to take medication. I have been with Ted's regiment of Borax Hydrogen, external and internal, for 2 weeks, so far no relieve. I truly believe I have this mite that Ted talks about in his message, have every symptom mentioned. My problem now is, that I will be going to Europe for 3 weeks in a couple of weeks, if I interrupt this treatment I will be right back where I started, and I haven't even seen an improvement..............."Please Help" I am so desperate, my face looks terrible. I have also tried Tea Tree Oil, and ACV. "ANY" HELP AT ALL WOULD BE APPRECIATED". Thank you. Kitty"
08/25/2009: Gaynor from Manaton, Devon Uk replies: "I have rosacea and have managed to get rid of the redness on my skin by applying ACV topically after cleansing my face with E45 cream for sensitive skin three times a day. The ACV stings at first but I got used to it. Once the stinging subsides it appears to calm the inflammation and any redness disappears. I still get the odd bump/ pustule but these are getting less. I also use yoghurt as a face mask sometimes and this helps. While treating the problem naturally, I also use natural mineral powder make-up which covers all signs of blemishes giving an even natural tone to the skin.It is applied with a brush- as it is in powder form. It does look good and it has given me confidence when I go out as no one would know you have rosacea. This make-up is made of minerals Micas, Titanium oxide, Zinc oxide, iron oxide, rice powder, kaolin-it does not iritate sensitive skin and acts as a sunscreen sun factor 15. If you buy mineral make-up check there is nothing else added like fillers such as Bismuth or talc as these are iritants.
It is a struggle but keep fighting. Some people take the anti-oxydent L-lysine - I am considering trying this- I think it is mentioned for rosacea on htis site. Hope this helps."
08/26/2009: Leelannee from Sussex, Nj replies: "Have you tried sea buckthorn?"
08/30/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "Kitty, If you believe you have the mites - Teds remedies should work. I used 1/2 tsp borax in 2 capfuls of 3% peroxide 2 drops tea tree oil on my skin nightly and left it on overnight. In the morning I used whatever was leftover to wash my face with it but rinsed that off as I couldn't concentrate on work with the tightness it gave my skin. I only used coconut oil as a moisturiser at that time and I also used the 1/8 tsp in a litre of water to drink. I started on june 4th and did this routine daily for one month then for 1st two weeks of july repeated the process every 2 days. Last two weeks of july went to every 4th or 5th day and am now only using it once a week. but still drinking the boraxed water daily.I would be interested to know the quantities that you are using as you say that after two weeks you cant see a difference. I noticed a difference the first day and it slowed down after that. Although I never had any pustule or lumps of any kind I had the redness and crawling feeling of the mites along with intermittant severe flushing. All I have left is a lot of broken blood vesels which I believe is damage caused by the mites. Maybe the effects on your skin has been different and it may take longer or slight alteration of the remedy.
Bring your remedy with you when you go away, but pack it in your suitcase not your hand luggage. I did this and it was fine. At the most you will arrive at the other end without it. And by the way wear a sunhat if you are going someplace warm as there is not point getting sundamage after all the hard work of getting rid of the mites. Best wishes"

I read one post here from a guy that had been struggling with a Rosacea problem for 20 years and found the cure in Ted's Borax/Peroxide solution topically applied. My condition has only been with me for 3 years but it's been very, very frustrating to deal with. I've tried all kinds of things, included ridiculously expensive 'laser therapy', without any success. Finally I found Ted's remedy at this site, got the borax and peroxide that same day, made the formula and applied it that same night. Well, in three days I saw a complete change in my complexion.... all the pustules and soreness had cleared up and I was looking at clear, unbroken skin for the first time in 3 years. Wow! Pennies worth of ingredients to make a cure for this vexing problem. Contrary to American 'medical science', the mites are it and killing them simply does the trick, at least it seems so with me. Probably, whatever good results come out of those laser treatments has to do with killing the mites as well. Probably the laser zaps them. Well, I'd rather zap them with a few cents worth of Borax and Peroxide than with literally thousands of dollars worth of laser treatments. I want to thank Ted wholeheartedly for contributing such a great cure for this 'incurable' condition."

[QUESTION] 04/22/2009: Andrew from Vancouver, Canada writes: "Hi Ted,
Do you think there is a connection between mercury amalgams and rosacea? I have several mercury fillings, which i would like to have removed. I will be spending much time in Asia in the near future, so i am thinking about visiting a dentist there that specializes in the safe removal of mercury fillings. Perhaps you can recommend some in Thailand or Korea. Thanks."

[NAY] 02/27/2009: Richard from Charleston, SC USA writes: "I would like some feedback on this. I followed Ted's directions od drinking borax and nothing happened. I actually took a gallon of spring water and added 1/8 teaspoon of borax, 1/8 teaspoon of seas salt, and a pinch of baking soda to aclimate my system to the borax. I've read where people have had kidney problems so I started out differently. After 3/4 of the water was consummed over a 4 or 5 day period, I took a break from drinking the borax for 4 days and resumed with another gallon of spring water, but this time I doubled the dose since I was drinking a gallon instead of a liter. Still no progress. It only stirred them up and they started migrating across my nose.
I also started washing my face with borax, water and hydrogen peroxide. It only burns my skin and turns my face beet red and hot to the touch. I've read of some success stories with this stuff, but not me. Can somebody recommend something that has worked for them. The rosacea is getting worse since this borax intake.
Thanks."
02/28/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The rosacea, the Chinese have found to be Folliculorum mite or the demodicid whose size is about 0.4 mm resides in the pores and hair folicles in the face, including eyelashes. They tend to be more active when borax is applied, but they are killed or reduced in numbers nevertheless. Therefore redness will show. There are other remedies that will not show redness and hence don't have the flushing out effect. Colloidal silver is also insecticidal to some of these mites, and I am currently looking for combination of colloidal silver and colloidal copper as another possibility.
Mites found in Rosacea maybe more active, but are killed or reduced in number with the rosacea. Initially they may try to get out, which causes the redness and hence the flushing out effect.
There is another method that kills them quietly although it won't reduce their egg laying ability, but they require more frequent dose. This means taking colloidal silver (around 5 ppm or above) one teaspoon or more, empty stomach 6-9 times a day for a couple of weeks will reduce the redness. Another is sea buckthorn oils.which is applied to the skin that was found to be helpful.
A neem oil is more weaker and less aggressive then borax and peroxide remedy and this is a possibility, although I find them not so impressive, but does help. It works as a birth control device to these mites to reduce their egg laying ability. It's applied thinly on the area. Borax and peroxide may have been too aggressive and had a flushing out effect. It's the same if Oregano oil was taken internally with a capsule. Colloidal silver can be applied to the face and taken internally, it makes them less active and hence less redness. I can't be sure whether colloidal silver reduce their numbers, but they are less active, but borax irritates these mites, making them less red. It's interesting to note that afalfa in a very few cases also helped too. If the colloidal silver was used along with borax and peroxide, for example, the breakouts reduces. So these mites don't go out quietly when we try to kill them, which is why redness increase, but it reduces their numbers, and hence it is more helpful over the longer run. But if only redness is to be eliminated, without regards to mites numbers, then It think just the colloidal silver well do. In any event, I am looking into a combination of colloidal copper and colloidal silver to see if it works better. Chrysanthemum tea may also knock them out unconsciously, as do alcohol solutions, but chrysantheum is applied and drank is also a natural insecticide in itself.
The other thing I am exploring is the use of bloodroot tincture dilulted in a glass of water taken internally or applied externally may digest some of the mites too, it's more powerful and has an effect within the day. That I am exploring and looking whether it will completely eliminate them. It does work, but it's a matter of debate whether it kills them, but may work by digesting them. A tea tree oil is also an insecticidal and may irritate the mites, but it does kill them, at the same time redness may increase initially after an application.
Certain dewormers can kill some mites but not all responsible for rosacea but that's still not so effective, or I haven't yet found the right one yet.
Hope this newer update helps!Ted"
03/01/2009: Corinne from London, Uk replies: "Richard, my husband has had great success with ACV. After spending hundreds of pounds on useless treatments at various clinics for his Rosacea we decided to search the net for alternative cures. We came across this site last year and decided to give ACV a try. My husband took 2 table spoons of ACV with Tomato juice (he couldn't cope taking it with water) 3 times a day. He also applied the ACV directly to his face using a cotton bud so he could target the problem areas. Within a week the redness went and at the end of the first month his flare ups were dramatically improved. One day, after a few months of him taking this I looked at him and thought "gosh you need some sun" as he was looking really pale. Then I realised his face was no longer red and he was back to his normal colour.
He still continues to drink the ACV daily for its numerous other cures (he no longer has to take heartburn remedies) and only applies the ACV to his face a couple of times a week. The only time his face becomes red now is after very spicy food.
Richard, if you have not already done so I would really recommend trying this. We tried everything prior to this and nothing has worked as well as ACV.
Thank you Earth Clinic. I have one very happy and confidant husband back again"
10/25/2009: Billy from Nyc, Ny replies: "Ted when using the Borax/peroxide Solution for mites, will the face get red for a little while or stay that way for a long time?"
10/26/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "When I used the remedy my face would redden slightly when I was washing it off in the shower next morning. It only lasted a few minutes. It would redden again when I used a moisturiser(usually vco) for a few seconds then gone. What it did do that was noticable was to leave the skin looking dry and wrinkly while it was on but once you washed it off you go back to your normal condition. This meant it had to be used only at night or if you weren't going anywhere during the day."

01/29/2009: Henry from Tijuana, Baja California writes: "i think that the papules and pustules and inflamacion of the skin in rosacea are caused by the demodex mites, and the redness and the broken capilaries are caused by an nanoinsect not yet identifided that is causing the redness and the broken capilaries not to heal, so when you use borax an peroxide hidrogen in your skin you are killing these two agents organisms, so maybe thats why they say that rosacea is caused by an weakened inmuned system, beacuse you body is not able to kill this agents, so maybe if you give strength and optimized your inmuned system, you body will be able to kill these organisms, and the way to do that its taking a suplement called "cats claw" (uncaria tomentosa) that is known for its antiinflamatory properties and to strength your inmuned system, you can search by yourselfs to see all the benefits that it has, and maybe that could be a good alternative of treating rosacea or it could be the cure. The other one that im thinking is the blood of the cocodrile aplied topicaly to the face since its a new discovery that the blood of the cocodrile are much better and extremely potencial that any antibiotic that exists and you can search in the internet the news of the potencial of the benefits killing these agents, so because of the potencial that it has killing all these agents it could be another alternative to rosacea."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 09/15/2008: Marie from St Louis , MO writes: "When I initially tried Ted's borax and peroxide remedy it cleared my rosacea right away. -- But -- It came back. -- My Natural Health Doctor says that is because the REAL cause of Rosacea is a Weakened Immune System.
She says that the mites are a "normal" part of life, and that they cause no symptoms in people with healthy immune systems.
I can believe that, as I have been a dog breeder for many years, and know that dogs get the symptoms of demodectic mange when they are going through periods of stress.
Life in this system is continually stressful for most of us. I guess we must try to relieve that stress to the best of our ability. Also, diet plays a big part in healing our immune systems, so I guess we need to adopt the theory "don't eat junk food" (if you want to be healthy.)"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 06/25/2008: Kate from Pasadena, CA writes: "TED..Thank you very much for your advice. You provide a great service to many people.
I am a 49 year old menopausal female. I have had rosacea for about 9 years, but mostly just had redness and ruddy skin with broken capillaries. But about 3 months ago I started breaking out with this little bumps on my chin and upper lip. I avoid direct sun, but it gets much worse after any sun exposure. It looks terrible, like acne, but its not. I started your remedy 25 days ago. It has been like a roller coaster, seems to be getting better, then not, but overall I think it is slowing working. Initially I had a hard time alkalizing. I got some test strips and the lowest ph measure is 6.8, which was an orange color, and I couldn't even get close to that, so I must have been very acid. I tried the baking soda twice a day and it was barely helping. Finally after about 10 days, I was able to find the washing soda. Once I used the carbicarb formula, it went up to 8.0 in two days! So now I do that once a day to keep at about 7.4. Then I do 1/2 teaspoon of borax and 1/2 teaspoon of peroxide in a liter of water which I drink throughout the day. I also do the topical borax/peroxide every night. It makes my skin very dry and is peeling. What else can I use for moisturizer and exfoliation that won't interfere with treatment? My skin is definitely getting smoother, but still a lot of redness. Lavender oil does not help either. In fact, anything I put on my skins makes it immediately deep red in the rosacea area. Also, a peculiar thing is happening. In the morning with a 10x magnified mirror, I look at my skin very closely. These little white "pin heads" are surfacing. With a slanted tweezer I pull them out and they come out very easy. They are white with a fine root-like body, about 1/8 to 1/2 inch long. They are not normal white heads. Could they be these nanoinsects? Or just my pores clearing out? This is only happening is the areas of the rosacea.
I look forward to your advice.
Thank you, Kate"
07/30/2008: AKR from Jersey City, New Jersey replies: "Hi Kate,
Will you please let us know where you bought the washing soda from, and what brand? Many thx.
Also, I would like to learn more about your carbicarb experience. Are you still continuing it? Is it still benefitting you as much as it did initially? Any side effects?
The reason for my curiosity is that I have been using baking soda for some time now, but only with mediocre success. On the downside, my insomnia has worsened. So, I decided to do some research on the net. I saw a study that showed that baking soda alone could cause brain acidosis. Of course, these studies are inconclusive, and you can always find other studies that show the opposite. Nonetheless, the studies seemed to be more favorable for carbicarb than baking soda. Hence, my curiosity in your experience with carbicarb vs. baking soda. Many thx.
Sincerely,
AKR"
08/04/2008: Kate from Pasadena, CA replies: "Answer to AKR: You can find Arm & Hammer Washing Soda at most supermarkets where laundry detergents are located. Yes, I continue to use 1/4 teaspoon of both, morning and night. I just monitor my PH and adjust accordingly if my PH gets too high... guess it depends on my diet too. But it definately works better than baking soda alone. Tastes really bad, so use just a small amount of water and get it down in a couple of gulps, follwed by a big glass of water. I have had no negative side effect either. I sleep better and my husband says I am "calmer" now, so I tell him he should do it then!
I continue to use the borax/peroxide treatments for my rosacea. It is getting better, but is taking a long time."

Why Rosacea is almost non existant in Thailand? what Ted think about? it's the diet? Please post this question on the site"

The Borax and HP have not really finish my rosacea problem even with the new TED protocol which i started on my last 10 days. I will take a month rest and start again trying to be very careful with the new protocol and see what happen then."

[YEA] 03/29/2008: Devon from Johnson, VT writes: "I have been patiently waiting for them (rosacea breakouts) to return as to not have my current conviction be in vain, however, the topical 1% H2O2/Saturated Borax solution applied to my face seems to have given me the most consistent and real cure of my Rosacea in 20 years.
I am 39 years of age and started to have the breakouts off and on since the age of early 20's. When I discovered topical cortisone it was the only thing that had helped up until that point. After using the cortisone off and on for more than 10 years I finally realized that not only did the topical steroids have side effects, but that I was unfortunately experiencing them: thinning facial skin and broken blood vessels-- in other parts of my face where the Rosacea didn't bother me. Although that could be side effects from long term Rosacea breakouts too I know.I would usually get the rosacea breakouts around the eye brows and adjacent sides of the nose. The Blood Vessels are on the upper outside cheek areas. One day this year I was determined to stop the cortisone but I knew that my face was addicted to it and it would be hard to it and it would be hard to stop because of the strange mind-body'connection to having something that I knew could work temporarily to get me through the self vanity crisis of facing fellow employees in the work place-- not to mention nothing else had ever worked!!! The feeling of the slight stinging/flushing sensation of the breakouts was the most noticeable characteristic that the cortisone would alleviate after a day or two. And then I would patiently wait for the redness and swelling to subside. I ended up ordering some florasone-- steroid alternative with a base ingredient of Cardiospermum-- hoping, and trying to convince myself this would be the answer-- while gradually trying to ween myself off of the Cortisone. Unfortunately, the Florasone just bought me a little time before sure enough, the Rosacea breakouts would return. Sometime around this time during my continued research and frustration, I discovered the idea of Demodex Mites being a possible cause for Rosacea which led me to this site and the Topical Borax cure. By the way, I haven't yet had the courage to try the internal version but that is definitely on the upcoming summer healing agenda. To make a long story short, one application of the Borax/H2O2 solution over night gave me successful relief for almost a week, enough to give some hope. I never really noticed the mites running like mentioned can happen; but I can say now, I have applied the solution three or four times on entire face and scalp (even eye lids-- no problem)-- usually spaced out by a week. My condition seems to be gone.
!!! It is gone!!! And now that my face has weaned mostly from the cortisone (haven't used it in 2 months), my face seems happy to receive an organic coconut oil moisturizing session during the interim between what is now a weekly Borax schedule that I am trying to follow. Interestingly I noticed that the condition seems to gradually attempt to return in-between treatments, but that returning has gotten longer and longer; this leads me to believe the Mite life cycle is close to broken in the epidermis. I have also added Tea Tree oil to my Coconut Oil and my face seems to like it a lot as along as the Tea Tree concentration is not to high in proportion to the Coconut Oil. Also, my face used to breakout when applying any kind of oily moisturizer, but now it is starting to like the CC. I can't tell you how empowering it is to get to the bottom of an elusive 20 year half-my-life condition, even if it is just Rosacea. By the way, for those that find the Borax solution to be very drying, I accidentally discovered that cutting the concentration of Borax down, in half or so, can make the drying effect less and one can still receive the benefits, and just apply it more often. Good Luck!"
