BORAX

06/06/2010: Roseyg from Boise, Id writes: "Hard to believe you are suggesting people ingest borax. I have suffered from rosacea for decades now, have been to countless dermatologist and have read and tried everything I can find about dealing with it (I believe there is no cure). Do you and your readers understand that borax is used to make such items as detergents, fire retardants, insecticides, flux used in metallurgy, and that it has been banned in the U.S. for use in food products? I think I'll skip being a guinea pig on this home remedy. To your other readers... use caution!"
RepliesEC: Much more feedback on borax: here http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/borax.html
06/06/2010: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Roseyg,Did you read about borax and what it CAN do? Have you read what Ted and Bill have to say about borax and its properties? I have learned so much from this site and love to pass on what I have learned to others here on EC. Honestly, I don't think anyone comes on here knowingly giving ill-intentioned advice. At least that has been my experience. There are a lot of remedies on this site that are little known today and the medical field and much of the mainstream either don't know, hide or the info has been lost through time. Many of us here are open to learning about alternative ways and much of the info here are on EC are folk remedies that have been lost because of the pharmaceutical way of life that most people assume is the only way to go. I for one, would not have known of the amazing properties of borax and would have made the same assumption as you had I not learned otherwise here on EC.
That said, I hope that everyone just uses common sense when trying new remedies.
Peace, Lisa"

[QUESTION] 06/09/2009: Sherill from Tampa, FL writes: "Borax treatment of facial Demodex mites: I've been reading all of the postings on this site regarding the use of borax to eradicate facial demodex mites in humans. I am 39 years old and was officially diagnosed with rosacea by a dermatologist 9 years ago. It has came and went with various prescribed oral and topical meds. After much research, I now believe that what I am currently experiencing is demodex mites. I am scheduled to return to the derm in August 2009, but each day is becoming a real struggle as I try and deal with the itching, crawling, stinging, burning, and bumps from these insects on my face. These symptoms seem to have came about in the past several months. I know the derms course of treatment will be prescribed insecticides and would rather not go that direction if there are truly other verified alternatives.
There are a few important questions that I have not seen the answers for and feel are very important to know prior to trying the borax treatment:
1) Is 3% hyrdrogen peroxide okay to use?
2) What quantities do I use of the borax and hydrogen peroxide?
3) Is this only applied in the evening?
4) How long is it left on before washing off?
5) How many days is this used for and then how often for prevention?
6) What are the expected side effects?
If someone could answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated as I am desperate to get some relief. "

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 04/13/2009: Tom from Galloway, NJ writes: "I bought some Borax in the form of a common laundry detergent several months ago. I finally tried it and all I can say is WOW. Its like washing your face with sandpaper. I was always told don't use anything abrasive on your rosecia and I thought I was gonna be in big trouble. After I scrubbed I patted my face dry and put some Aloe on it. The next morning not knowing what to expect I go to the mirror and I let out a few expletives of joy. My face was smooth and the crap was about 80% gone. The slight redness was there but everything else was about gone...Oh yeah, did I mention that that was the first night? Keep you posted.
Tom"
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 05/15/2009: Vivian from Cedar Rapids, IA, USA replies: "I tried scrubbing with Borax after reading your comment. I have to agree my skin is MUCH smoother than normal. After one time I did see a lessening of redness, but it seems to be getting redder as the day progresses. :( I did not remember to apply aloe, which may have been more effective. I was wondering if you are continuing to use Borax? If so, how often do you scrub with it? I am planning on using ACV as a toner also, although, not after scrubbing with Borax because the rosacea does sting a bit afterwards. It sounds like ACV will help with redness as well as enlarged pores. I would appreciate any feedback. My face just keeps getting redder and redder as I get older and I'm becoming very self-conscience about it."

01/01/2009: Wrwk from Kansas City, MO writes: "I'm considering trying the Borax internal remedy for my rosacaa - however I have high blood pressure that is proving a little difficult to control even with 2 meds. So, what effect might this remedy have on my blood pressure? Should I seek elsewhere for another remedy? Or, should I only apply the Borax combo to my skin and forget the internal routine?"
Replies04/11/2011: Carol from Bainbridge Island, Wa replies: "Anybody consider colon cleansing? "
08/15/2011: Beauregard from Plattsburg, Missouri replies: "This has nothing to do with borax or Apple Cider Vinegar (which I have but have not used yet). I have been taking for about 4 months now ACNEED capsules for Rosacea (a Chinese Herbal blend product) from Merry Clinic (on-line). They claim it is a stomach thing. It has greatly helped with my red-ness & the bumps. It's pretty expensive but in my case it has helped therefore it is worth it. I am still having problems with the bumps located between my eyebrows. Any suggestions?"
08/19/2011: Christine from Singapore replies: "Hi I am an sufferer of rosacea for 7 years, my skin started from acne and worsened to redness and sensitivity due to incorrect use of products. Sad to say, my derma can't actually determine my case, eczema or rosacea or both and the possiblity of mites infection was not suggested to me either. She prescribed me with a rosacea gel, doxycycline 100mg, I am applying jojoba oil too. Been taking it for few days, not much effect. Recently, I found out that low stomach acid and mites infection on skin might be the reason. I am really tempted to try out consuming hcl or apple cider vinegar to see whether it aids my process however, I am afraid that I can take it with doxycycline medicine. Actually, I wished to try apple cider vinegar and a shampoo (but don't know which one is right) on my face. But of course, was afraid it will make me worst. Btw, I tried zz cream before ( supposed to be mites killer) not much effect. Can any suggest how should I go abt it and what is the trial period to determine whether the vinegar suits me?"
[YEA] 09/07/2011: Vimal from Nadi, Fiji Islands replies: "Hi Christine, I had similar skin condition like you, Rosacea. Even am not sure whether it is eczema or rosacea however I am living with this problems since I was 11 yrs old, am 36 now. At the age of 24, a derma diagnosed me with rosacea. I was taking tetracycline plus metro gel, but metro gel is not effective at all for my rosacea. Tetracycline did improve my blushing but until I was taking tetrcycline as prescribed.I am an Indian and I knew about Neem which can cure any skin related disease but I was really oblivious to neem to use as rosacea treatment. I have been taking neem capsule and applying neem oil on my face and just over couple of days I found the redness has minimized plus my complexion has improved a lot. Neem oil has very strong odour but that should not deter you from applying it on your face. There are neem creams as well soap which you can also use. Don't stop the treatment with neem if it clears your rosacea, continue with creams or soap or even shampoos which contain neem. You may discontinue with neem capsule but keep using external application. You can also do bit of research on Neem if you are in doubt but Neem really works."
[YEA] 09/17/2011: Debbie from Sterlington, Usa replies: "I have had rosacea for about 20 years. I can't afford Metrogel right now. Read online that someone had success with sulfur mixed with sunscreen. I mixed a teaspoon of sulfur with about a half cup of sunscreen and have been using it for 9 days (morning and night, after washing my face with borax), and the result is great- better than metrogel.I had tried washing with borax, then dabbing with apple cider vinegar, but the redness continued and the sores just stayed scabby- wouldn't heal. My face had gotten really bad because I had been without Metrogel for about 3 months; looked like it would bleed. Now I am washing with borax, then applying the sulfur/sunscreen mixture and the redness is almost all gone, the sores healed, and I now only have about 3 little places that are slightly swollen, and they are getting better. My nose, which had been sore to the touch and scabby for so long, is completely well. The sulfur is a little drying, but the sunscreen helps to counteract that. My sulfur is some I got from my mom. My dad worked in a lab and brought home about 5 lbs of it thirty-five years ago, and it has been under the sink in a glass jar ever since, but is obviously still potent.
I have also discontinued washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner, and am using baking soda/borax water to wash, and citric acid water for rinsing. Also am drinking 1/8tsp borax and 1/8tsp sulfur in a liter of water everyday. Just hope this helps someone else. My skin has never been this soft, and it looks better now than it has for a long time. I am 50 years old."
09/27/2011: Debbie from Sterlington, Usa replies: "Update on my earlier post. My skin is completely clear of sores/pimples/pustules. Only slight slight vague redness on cheeks. I continue to scrub twice a day with borax, then apply the sulfur/sunscreen mixture. I believe this is the ticket for my particular case. I have noticed my usually normal blood pressure has climbed a little, so I have quit taking borax internally, but am still taking a little sulfur in water or in a spoon of peanut butter or honey. Love the way my hair is looking since quit using shampoo and went to borax/baking soda to wash and citric acid rinse. My nails are longer and stronger too- maybe from the sulfur. If anyone else tries this, let us know how it works for you."
09/28/2011: Stonefieldsian from Auckland, New Zealand replies: "What sort of sulphur are you taking internally?"

[YEA] 09/08/2007: Pamela from City Withheld, Washington writes: "I have suffered with Fibromyalgia/Rosacea and TMJ for over 10 years... My first symptoms appeared shortly after I began taking Paxil. After about 8 months when I found the Paxil side effects intolerable, my doctor switched me to Prozac. Well...within 2 years, I had gained 75 pound, couldn't get my temperature to a normal 98.6 (it wouldn't budge above 96.6), broke out with a fierce case of Rosacea (skin blistering & pealing in layers off my cheeks), was chronically fatigued and suffered from TMJ symptoms.
After reading the FLUORIDE information on EarthClinc and researching the chemical formulas of the many antidepressants that I had taken over the last 10 years, I had an epiphany...My problem was FLUORIDE!!! Incidentally, the' symptoms of FLUORIDE TOXICITY are the same as Fibromyalgia so it wasn't surprising to learn that FLUORIDE is the primary ingredient in MANY widely prescribed antidepressants, including PAXIL and PROZAC!!!
Without delay, I began adding 1/8 tsp of BORAX and 1/8 tsp of NATURAL (UN-bleached) SEA SALT to a liter of
DE-CLORINATED water. This regimine just happens to both neutralize the FLUORIDE and KILL the nasty mites that cause Rosacea.
I began drinking 1 liter per day for 5 days. On the 2 off days, I simply drank purified, bottled spring water.
The results were nothing short of MIRACULOUS, within two weeks my face cleared, the redness faded and best of all, my temperature normalized TO 98.6 and my energy level began to steadily increased. (Do expect the break out to get worse before it gets better as the mites die off.)
In just one month, without dieting or changing my daily routine (other than adding BORAX & SEA SALT to my drinking water), I dropped 4 pounds and I continue to drop weight at about a pound a week. I attribute this to my increased body temperature and elevated metabolism.
ALSO...when I eliminated the FLUORIDE in my toothpaste, my gums stopped swelling and bleeding and all PREVIOUS phantom tooth/jaw pain simply disappeared.
Thank you, EarthClinc and Ted...The information you shared has truely been a blessing in my life...I wholeheartedly encourage anyone that is suffering with FIBROMYALGIA, CHRONIC FATIGUE, TMJ or ROSACEA to try this simple remedy as I have had only POSITIVE results and absolutely NO SIDE EFFECTS!!!
Incidently, this BORAX & SEA SALT water is extremely ALKALINE with a pH between 8 - 9 pH."
RepliesEC: We must also express our extreme gratitude to Jason Uttley for the chronic fluoride poisoning link in his article, The Cause of Fibromyalgia.
05/26/2008: Kate from Pasadena, CA replies: "Are you talking about borax as in "20 Mule Team Borax" use for cleaning and other household purposes???"

10/09/2008: Robert from Thalang, Phuket, Thailand replies: "Could someone please let me know how I can purchase Borax in Thailand? Or where I can find it? I have tried remedies from dermatologists for what I have just discovered that I have rosacea. Thank you."

12/30/2008: Angie from Windsor, Canada replies: "i am taking levothyroxin for an underactive thyroid. trying to get rid of rosacea...what interaction will borax have on this medication. should i take borax with this medication?"
03/10/2009: Robin from Auburn, Washington replies: "Pamela, I think you may have hit the nail on the head, regarding the "cause" of rosacea. You mentioned you developed it after taking Paxil. I find it interesting that many people develop this problem after they have upset the balance of good vs bad bacteria in their guts by taking prescription drugs. I believe rosacea could be due to a candida overload in the system, and since you live in WA state I can tell you that you don't get enough Vit D from sunshine. I live in WA, and Dr. Wright of the Tahoma Clinic (Kent) told me that we all need a minimum of 1,000 IUs of Vit D daily in the NW. I have read research that shows a clear link to vitamin D levels being low and an elevation in rosacea cases. Vit. D is a critical hormone, that also affects the thyroid; many here in WA report losing weight and lessening of head hair loss after proper supplementation....it is a powerful hormone necessary for hormone balance in women. Hope this helps. And, I would apply apple cidar vinegar to the face 2x per day, with a Vit E or Jojoba oil lightly applied before bed, to counter possible dryness. Hope this helps!"
10/10/2009: Rease from Brookville, Md replies: "Robin, I was floored after reading your feedback. I have had a horrible case of Rosacea for 20 years now. Just a year ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and have been on synthroid. (Can't begin to tell you how much better I feel.) But the rosacea is AWFUL. Then, just a couple months ago (in the THICK OF SUMMER) I was told I'm *severely* deficient in Vitamin D. So, after reading your post, I'm now wondering if my rosacea is a result of my hormone imbalances and Vitamin D deficiency.
I've read a lot of posts in this forum about treaments for rosacea, like taking 1 tablespoon of ACV 3xs a day diluted in a cup of either juice or water. Or, by taking borax in water. Has anyone done BOTH? Is it dangerous to do both? I'm so desperate to try something -- just not sure what to do first!
Am trying the ACV topically tonight, along w/ the Aloe. Hoping for some improvement soon."
10/10/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "Might be worthwhle at some stage to do a survey on what we think causes rosacea. I would be vitamin d deficient purely on the basis of where we live. You couldn't get enough sun here if you tried. I also have hormone imbalances and have taken antibiotics akin to paxil.I have taken acv using the water I prepared with the boraxed water and had no adverse reactions. Ted has done a list of the combination that are ok and what not to mix somewhere on this site. Search Ted's Combination List."
11/20/2011: Redcairo from Miami, Ok replies: "Please be sure you get Vitamin D3 (natural) not D2 (synthetic). D2 has a pretty low max dosage and research has made clear it's the D3 that is useful. Fortunately it is really pretty cheap. Research shows 10,000 mg per day semi-long term in adults did no damage (and that disease-states, particularly cancer, are hugely correlated with low D3 status in the body), and some docs I have known have prescribed way more than that (like 5x that) for people in the flux of a disease. BORAX AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
Ratings:

07/14/2011: Joellelee from Landisville, Pa, Usa writes: "Hi everyone!
I have so many questions and concerns regarding hydrogen peroxide for rosacea. I have moderately bad pasule rosacea with redness.. Only thing that gets rid of it for awhile is antibiotics... I am considering going back to a low dose of antibiotics along with using Floresta (sp?) probiotic which works well with the antibiotic... therefore not hurting my gut flora.
I was doing the borax/peroxide mix until I realized I misunderstood... I was using pharmacy 3% and not the food grade! Hope I didn't do any longterm harm! So, I decided to try and get food grade (35%) until I have read many researchers saying that it is not good to take food grade peroxide throughout the day... Should be taken on an empty stomach and NOT to be mixed with any iron and especially not to be mixed with vitamin C!!! This can make it very much full of dangerous free radicals! I know that Ted from Bangkok on here recommends taking the peroxide/borax mix throughout the day! I have read it's very helpful to put a cup of food grade peroxide in a warm bath and let your body absorb it instead of the stomach where it can cause serious damage! Any thought or concerns?
Also, when anyone applies the peroxide/borax on the face... Do you use the food grade?"

BORAX, CICLOPIROX OLAMINE
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 05/22/2011: Tm from Brisbane, Australia writes: "Hi all, firstly thanks for all your fantastic posts and advice. I just wanted to relay my experience with treating Rosacea with Borax and Ciclopirox Olamine. I had been told several times over the years that I had Rosacea, but it was never really that bad, so I did nothing about it. The reason I started taking Borax was to treat my hair loss. My hair was falling out in fist fulls all day long. So I started on the internal 1/8th tsp in 1 litre of water 4 days on/3 days off and the external Borax and hydrogen peroxide (I only have 3% solution at home) mixed with water 1:1:10 for 10 mins then wash out. This helped with hair loss, and my Rosacea went crazy. I had major die off with a crust forming over my Rosacea. Another side effect of the Borax, was into the 2nd week I started getting pain in my back and legs, by the third week it was really bad and my legs and feet were really swollen. I realized I was detoxing from flouride and believe me, it was not pleasant. I was back to normal by week 4 though.
My Rosacea had stabilized, but was not really improving. I washed my face with Borax and a oil cleanser I had made of Macadamia Nut & Neem oil morning and night, used a toner I made of ACV, hydrogen peroxide and Colloidal silver, but was really only controlling the Rosacea. It was still red, raw with pustules.
I decided to try the anti-dandruff shampoo remedy I had read about here, so I found out it's called Stieprox here in Australia. I washed my face & hair with it left on 5 mins, rinsed off and repeated as per the instructions on the box. I had another die off and the crust forming over my Rosacea that night, but the next morning, the improvement was huge! I've been washing my face with it morning and night for 3 days now.
The Ciclopirox has really worked and I would definitely recommend it. I will update if it isn't all it's cracked up to be after a month, but otherwise I'd say it has really worked so far.
Sorry it's so long winded, but I hope this helps someone else :-)"

CHAMOMILE TEA, RUBBING ALCOHOL, TEA TREE OIL

|
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/26/2009: Una from Toronto, On, Canada writes: "Camomille tea, rubbing alcohol and Tea Tree oil cured my rosacea
About four months ago I had my first bout of rosacea. I had a few episodes of redness that lasted a few minutes on my face and tips of my ears before but until a few months ago it always went away on it 's own. My first bout was pretty bad as it was mainly my chin that was red and stayed red. I used make up during the day to cover it and that worked. At night I would tone it after washing with cold camomille tea and tea tree oil. This did lessen the burning feeling and the redness a bit but not by much.
My rosaacea, three months later, is now at the point almost completely gone. Here is what I have been doing. I noticed a dramatic change right away and hopefully this will work for you as well.
1. Every night, after washing my face I apply a homemade toning solution made of 1 cup cammomille tea, 1/2 cup rubbbing alcohol and about 10-15 drops of tea tree oil. I apply it with a make-up sponge, completely covering the red areas twice. I leave it on overnight. After a week of this, the redness was reduced by at least 80%. I'm still a bit pink and have flushing but nothing out of the ordinary and the flushing subsides. My skin is also super smooth, blemish free and very soft now, a bonus!
2. I stopped eating soy sauce and vinegar as I always would get redness after eating food with these ingredients.
3. I ate alot of root vegetables, citrus fruit and bananas, foods high is potassium and vitamin C. I gained five pounds but my rosacea did really noticably reduce. I plan of losing the weight and hopefully my rosacea will not return as well.
4. Other things I did that I don't normally do is I ate alot of spicy foods once (vegan Kimchee), and applied a commonly prescribed rosacea cream three times. The cream felt funny and has perservatives so I stopped. I don't know if this had an affect but it may have helped. Spicy foods is supposed to aggravate rosacea but it seemed to have the opposite affect for me.
So far this regime has had a dramatic affect on my rosacea. I will update you in a few months and let you know if this is just a temporary solution or if for me it's a real cure."
05/28/2010: Una from Toronto, Ontario, Canada replies: "This unfortunately wasn't a cure for my rosaecea. It is still present and flares up. This toning solution which I still use does cool it and temporarily reduces the heat and redness. I am still looking for a more permanent solution but this works fine for me still. I have also started to exercise aerobically three times a week. My face is a lot redder but feels less hot. I will keep it up and see what results. I also use Metrogel now occasionally.
I still eat no yeast, sugar, alcohol, salt, soy sauce or vinegar which I am sure helps. The funny thing is the few times recently I've eaten hot peppers my rosacea redness really diminshed to the point my skin looked like normal again.Only temporary as well but it was nice to see myself looking like normal again.
My rosacea is strange. I have a red chin with occasional flushing of my nose and cheek. It comes and goes but the redness on my chin is almost permaneent and requires makeup to cover.
I will keep trying and searching for a cure. Maybe lasers in the future. I will keep you posted."
05/31/2010: Doug from Jamestown, Tn replies: "I have had rosacea for about 10 years and have tried several meds prescribed by the doctor. None worked. I heard about colloidal silver and started using that both topically and internally. I take a tablespoonful by mouth three times daily and I apply a compress of CS to the affected area at bedtime. In my case it is my nose and cheeks. The redness is gone and my nose now looks normal. I highly reccomend it. You can make your own colloidal silver very easily. There are several good CS generators on the market for around 100 dollars."
11/25/2011: Una Rose from Toronto, On, Canada replies: "My rosacea has toned down considerably. I use Metro cream now occasionally whenever it gets really bad. It was only on my chin and really red and noticible. That problem has stopped. Now it is more of a drying out and peeling of my skin and rash like redness on my cheeks with pimple like bumps. I use the Metro cream to combat that (it works really well) and still use these methods of treatment. My rosacea now is nothing really to worry about, sometimes barely there and easily covered with makeup, so this is a managable working cure for me."

CHINESE MEDICINAL HERBS

[YEA] 10/09/2009: Neena from Chicago, Illinois, Usa writes: "After exhausting many attempts with various recommendations for rosacea cures, I finally went to a Traditional Chinese Medicine practioner after reading about other peoples successes. I was skeptical, but have found one doctor who really knew what he was doing. I have been taking the herbs for a month now. My symptoms are 90% gone. I did have a moderately severe case of rosacea. Now, I actually have pretty skin again. I had gone to another doctor at first, but his herbs were not as good. I think every doctor has his own formulas. These herbs really heal the problem of a "hot" stomach. Rosacea is only a symptom of this problem. Good Luck!"
Replies10/10/2009: Andrew from Vancouver, Canada replies: "Can you provide more details about the herbs you are taking so that readers may be able to replicate your success?"
10/11/2009: Neena from Chicago, Illinois replies: "I would like to just tell you the website that you could buy the herbs, although I don't know if you can buy them without being seen by the doctor. He has so many formulas that you really do need to be seen by him. I am being given three different formulas. One of them is specifically for the rosacea. The other two are for overall wellbeing for some of my other issues. The one for rosacea has these herbs : Forsythia fruit, Wooly Grass Rhizome, Agastache, Eupatorium, Mint, Round Cardamom Fruit and Chinese Hawthorn Fruit. It might be difficult to buy these herbs individually. Also, your pulse and some other personal details are studied in order to come up with the right herb combinationl. Since I cannot give you his name or website, I don't know what else to tell you. Just remember, the TCM doctors view rosacea as a symptom of a stomach issue. The face and stomach meridians are tied to each other. Healing the stomach will remove the rosacea symptoms. I don't believe this doctor ever mentioned to me that these are little mites living in my face. That was a good thing in my opinion!"
12/31/2009: Jordan from Chicago, Il replies: "Hi Neena, it's great to hear that you found something that worked very well for you. Being in Chicago myself, I would be very interested in hearing more information about the practitioner that you went to and how I could set up an appointment.
Thanks, Jordan"
[YEA] 05/09/2010: Jeannette from Las Vegas, Nevada replies: "Hi all!
Just wanted let you know my experience with rosacea. I cured it with acupuncture and herbs. But before that I tried EVERYTHING. I happened quite suddenly last spring and I had no clue what I had. All I knew was that I was really hot on my face and it was horribly itchy.
I spent hundreds of dollars on supplements I researched online (oils creams vitamin deficiencies, you name it) the only thing that made it better were the papaya masks I'd put on my face(preferably cold papaya mashed or blended by itself All OVer) and I'd leave it on for an hour. It was my happy place...the rest of the days were horrible and I seriously wanted to die from the pain and I couldn't sleep without scratching.
I even researched fasting and switched to a raw food diet. I fasted for 18 days and came out with a juice diet for a week with wheatgrass and organic fruit. That actually helped, it totally went away. But when I started eating normal again it started to come back. So then I found an awesome acupuncturist here in Vegas. So after the first visit I immediately saw my face change color and kept my treatments while maintaining a vegetarian diet (with cooked foods).
My acupuncturist said that I had to stay away from yang foods which include spicy, chocolate, coffee, alcohol type of stuff. And the amount of time to get rid of it would be based on how long I originally had been having symptoms and how well I stuck to my regimen. This was all due to a Yin deficiency. So I kept taking the herbs and going to my sessions, which started out a couple times a week then went down to one visit a week and then monthly maintenance. Now I just take my herbs and rarely eat Yang foods. I had rosacea severely for four months and then the symptoms started to recede throughout the next 6 months. Acupuncture must maintain constant in order to see any results but that's the way natural healing works. I never went to a dermatologist and I refuse to take medication eventhough I was desperate.
I hope my story helps all of you, I know the pain and how horrible it feels. Keep your hope because I got rid of mine and you can too."
02/24/2011: Joann from Chicago, Illinois replies: "This is for Neena from Chicago.
I live in Chicago too and have been looking for an alternative way of curing my Rosacea. I'm tired of all the medications, both internal and topical, that I've taken and that have little or no affect on my condition. Could you possibly provide me with the name of the TCM practioner that you saw in Chicago? Or provide the name of the specific area where he/she is located? sonoma_co(at)hotmail(dot)com"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 06/24/2011: Joann from Chicago, Il replies: "This is an update to my post of 2/24/11.After making many phone calls and verifying credentials of TCM practioners, I made an appointment.
First Practioner:
It's been three weeks since I started taking herbs for my Rosacea and the results were mediocre. I originally started with a TCM practioner located on the northside of Chicago, who gave me herbs combined with accupuncture. The first three weeks I did see some improvement (pustules were almost non-existent) but redness and papules remained. However, I did notice that when I received the second accupuncture treatment, the paplues were reduced in size, if not almost gone, and the redness still remained. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest recommendation), I would rate this TCM practioner a 5).Second Practioner:
I decided to see another TCM practioner that was closer to where I lived. After this second TCM practioner reviewed my health profile, checked my pulse, checked my tongue for color, checked my palms and nails, and asked me about any other ailments I had, I was given several herbs to injest. Within the first week, the redness was diminishing, pustules were almost absent, and just a few minor papules. By the third week, the redness on the left side of my face was just a blush of red, pustules are gone and a few smaller bumps. Needless to say, the herbs are working.
While my Rosacea has not totally disappeared, I can finally go outside without trying to hide my face. I still use makeup to hide the residual effects of Rosacea, which makes my face look normal. I would strongly recommend that you see a TCM practioner, rather than trying to take herbs on your own.
I think it's important to understand that while the herbs are working, you won't see changes over night, especially if your Rosacea is sever like mine is/was. Here is the website link to TCM practioner in Chicago http://www.liferising.com, 2131 S. Archer Ave. Suite B, Chicago IL, 312-842-2775.
Good Luck!"

[YEA] 12/29/2007: Sarah from Chattanooga, TN writes: "ROSACEA RELIEF. One word: Colloidal Copper!!! Colloidal Copper!!! Colloidal Copper!!! Along with a daily Centrum or equivalent vitamin!"
Replies11/24/2008: Ina from Brooklyn, New York, NY replies: "How did you use colloidal silver, please? Internally or externally? How much? How soon you so the result? Does it last? Thank you very much."
EC: Great questions. FYI - colloidal copper was used, not silver.
11/26/2008: Linda from West Newfield, Maine replies: "Hi Ina, I've been using colloidal silver on occasion for several months....it can be ingested, properly diluted and can be applied un-diluted directly on your skin. Silver has anti-bacterial, fungal and viral properties and I would use as long as necessary....until your skin clears. It's a little expensive but a little silver goes a long way. Hope this helps!"
09/08/2009: Eh from Atlanta, Ga replies: "So.... which is it? Colloidal COPPER or Colloidal SILVER?? Does anyone here know which one the first poster was referring to?"
EC: The first poster used Colloidal Copper.
On a separate note, we just found an interesting article from 1913 on Colloidal Copper for Cancer in the NYTimes.com archives!
02/18/2010: Francis from St-Georges De Beauce, Quebec, Canada replies: "Thank you so much!! You changed my life!!"
09/28/2010: Christine from Grimsby, On replies: "Do we have a consensus on colloidal silver or copper? If so, how much was used and how was it used? Thanks!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 06/10/2011: Linda from Dublin, Ireland writes: "hi, havent been to site in a while but I thought id leave a little feedback on helping rosacea. Im not sure if I actualy have rosacea but I my face was always red and would glow sometimes, say after eating , drinking a beer or god forbid I got hot. I done a lot of reading. The first thing I discovered is that diet is huge in this fight. I took out a wide range of foods, anything hot like chillies etc or anything fermented like cheese or vinegar.
My supplements consisted of neem and sarsaparilla and a good bacteria. These things cleansed the blood, cleared heat and inflammation and the good bacteria helped well with lots of things. Anyway 2 months in and iv lost weight(that was a side bonus) and my skin is still a little red but I havnt burned bright red like I used to and I even toned down my make up. I hpoe maybe someone else might benefit from this.x"

ESSENTIAL OILS

[YEA] 03/25/2008: Molly from San Francisco, CA USA writes: "I found a cure for Rosacea!! I've tried everything. I was using the Rosacea therapy with Skin Actives, and it was controlling it OK, but not completely. I'm 51 and have "mature skin", but I prone to breakouts if I use the wrong products.
I've really been getting into aromatherapy and have been reading a lot about essential oils.
Helichrysum! Also Patchouli.
So I got a couple of ounces of Jojoba oil, and free poured these two oils into the mix. I slather it on, wipe off the excess but don't completely remove it. It took about 3 days to see a difference.
I only get really good quality oils, like from Natures Gift or Mountain Rose Herbs. Only steam distilled.
I added some Sea Buckthorn Berry oil to the mix lately, as well as a drop of lavender and a drop of sweet fennel (for pores).
I really think I'm onto something. I cannot believe how great my skin (two girlfriends and my husband) looks!!"

ESTROGEN
04/05/2009: Karen from Alpharetta, Georgia/USA writes: "My eyes and throat were so dry I could not sleep at night. Nothing helped, not vitamin A, eye drops etc.nothing. For some reason, I reached for some natural estrogen with pomegranate that I had had for months but never taken. They were from a major on line supplier of health supplements. My dry eyes and dry mouth symptoms disappeared as well as my Rosacea. Now instead of using Vitamin C and Lysine (works too but doesn't take care of dry eyes and mouth) for Rosacea I take natural estrogen tablets. Since then I have researched this and there are numerous testimonies of people who have used bio-identicial estrogen for Rosacea. I no longer take Lysine and vitamin C. Men have estrogen too. So, maybe Rosacea is a hormonal problem."

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL

[YEA] 10/13/2009: Grandmaa from Sacramento, Ca writes: "I have had excellent results for roscea with primrose oil. I take one capsule per day. It took about 2 or 3 weeks to really work well. Now I take it every day."
Replies01/10/2012: Diane from Ottumwa, Iowa, Usa replies: "Skin Update. Fatty Acid Metabolism Disorder.Supplement with Borage, or Evening Promrose and Flax Seed Oil and Carnitine.
Totally Cured.
This is also posted in Dermatitis because the symptoms can be misdiagnosed. Many times I thought I had rosacea from the descrption alone.
Symptoms: red, flaky skin, lifting off in very large flakes with white pustules like small cysts, forming rapidly under the skin. I did not have just the redness and broken veins that some people have. We need to be very specific about the symptoms here, since the symptoms can be easily mis-diagnosed.
It was diagnosed by my Dr. As "perioral dermatitis". Drs should be embarrassed to even say this to patients, I mean we all know we have a rash around our mouths, right? It was a mess, and I had it for approximately 8-9 months before I figured out what it was.
This is for people who have tried everything. Believe me. I tried everything listed on this website and more.
I treated it as: a pathogen (like a bacteria like strep or staph), a fungus, mites, (rosacea), (yes, I drank the damn borax), scabies, leishmania, malessezzia, (seborrhea), acne, I tried three different antibiotic gels from the Dr, (metrogel, ciclopirox, clyndamyacin). I would get excited, because some things seemed to work for a few days, then the condition always returned and got progressively worse. A fatty acid metabolism disorder will mimc the symptoms of Dermatitis with few other noticeable symptoms. My only clue came after I took a big dosage of Cod Liver Oil and I saw what looked like chicken skin under my eyes the next day. I knew something was really wrong. Started Flax, and Borage Oil capsules the next day. Took L-Carnitine on an empty stomach, (just happened to have it, and knew it was good for fatty acid metabolism disorder from a study I saw on the web regarding Acidura and Carnitine). The Acidura, (a condition of acidity in the body) interferes with fatty acid metabolism processes in the body. This combined with a genetic predisposion called kryptopyluria and six cups of coffee a day meant I was not able to process fish oil of any type. This also explains why some of the other remedies like vinegar and baking soda, alkinalizing the body, and the liver cleanses, and the digestive enzymes seem to work for some people also. You will know within three days if this will work for you.
I saw healing within one day, the flakes stopped in three days and the redness went away in a week. My skin is perfectly clear and has been for two months. I still continue with the Carnitine, Flax and Borage only because I'm afraid to stop. Please note: I did topical applications of Sulfur, (sublimed pwder mixed into mayonese as a carrier) and bought MMS, (chlorine dioxide) just before trying the Flax, Carnitine and Borage. The sulfur may have lessened the white pustules, but I still had the red, flaky skin. If the pustules don't go away, you made want to try the sulfur or the MMS.
Best Wishes."

GENERAL FEEDBACK
11/23/2011: Sharon from Silfiac, France writes: "Hi, I was first diagnosed with rosacea 10 yrs ago when I stopped taking the TRINORDIOL contraceptive pill. I fell pregnant and after a few months the rosacea dissappeard. After I finished breast feeding I went back on the pill. 2 yrs later I stopped the pill again to have another baby and the rosacea came back. After a year or so I started the pill again and had no problems with the rosacea. Two yrs ago I decided to stop the pill to give my body a rest and low and behold the rosacea came back. I then decided to continue taking the pill purely to keep the rosacea at bay. I am now 40 and have been told that I have to stop the pill forever now and yet again it's come back!
Is there anyone who can tell me why the pill seems to play a big part in connection to the rosacea and more than anything else, what can I do now as do not really want to take antibiotics for the rest of my life.
Many thanks, Sharon"

GREEN TEA, ASPIRIN TOPICALLY

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/05/2010: Jenny from Jersey, Uk writes: "My partner was suffering from rosacea on his face for the first year I met him. It was really ruining his self esteem. The rosacea was causing large red blotchy and scaly areas on his face and we tried all sorts of remedies including washing the areas with cider vinegar and drinking baking soda to alkalise the body. It wasn't until I saw another website that mentioned applying cold green tea mixed with crushed aspirin that we found the answer. Within two days of using it my partner's skin had lost the inflammation and within a week all sign of the rosacea was gone.
He continues to rinse his face three times a day with the mixture (he found that if he used soluble aspirin something in it made his skin flare up so he uses ordinary aspirin). He makes a fresh batch every day and now gets occasional small patches now and again but I would say the condition has improved 90 per cent and he is so much happier now that he can go out and not feel embarrassed about the way he looks."
Replies09/17/2011: Sgonzales from Houston, Tx replies: "Would really like to try the greea tea/aspirin topical remedy for rosecea. Can you please give the mixture? How much of each?"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 11/17/2011: Susan from Battle Ground, Wa replies: "I've been steeping a green tea bag in a quarter cup of boiling water for about 15 minutes, then adding an aspirin. Once cool, I shake it up in an old spice jar and use a cotton ball to dab it on my face twice a day. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks so far. I still have the broken capillaries, but the redness is mostly gone."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

[YEA] 12/10/2010: Denny from Conway, Ar writes: "Having become a victim to rosacea in my early 60s and which condition progressed until I had the worse case scenerio with severe breakouts, blood blisters under the skin and scarring. I searched for remedies because the antibiotics and creams prescribed did little or nothing. Monodox initially helped with the inflamation, but over time I had to double the dose and triple it during breakouts. My brother sent me a news article saying that someone applied Vick's vaporub to their rosacea and it healed them. I tried Vick's and found that it did help a great deal, but did not alleviate my problem.
Quite by accident, my wife told me I had bad breath and I searched for a remedy on the Internet. The solution I found was a 50% solution of household hydrogen peroxide with distilled or filtered water and to gargle continuously for one to one and a half minutes.
The explanation for this mixture was that the odor causing bacteria in the mouth could not tolerate oxygen and by using this remedy it killed the bacteria. It did not eliminate it, but eliminated enough of the bacteria between treatments that you could go most of the day without experiencing bad breath. What happened to my amazement is that my rosacea disappeared. I can only speculate that like taking sub lingual B-12 vitamins, you get greater amounts of the vitamin by absorption under the tongue. I am assuming that whatever causes rocasea is some form of bacteria or other organism that cannot tolerate oxygen and my gargling with the hydrogen peroxide solution eliminated whatever was causing my rosacea. I hope this helps someone else in healing this terrible problem."

Tired of using retin-A nightly and worried about long term use, I started swabing my face with 3% hydrogen peroxide morning and night. It has improved my face dramatically but not completely gone. I am going to experiment some more with adding an afternoon application. If it bleaches the skin, doesnt it make sense it would take the redness away?? Does anyone know if this is harming the skin? It certainly feels baby-soft from using it, and looks so much better already, it seemed to work after just a couple of times!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/03/2009: Miel from Brooklyn, Ny writes: "i came here a few weeks back and read the posts regarding hydrogen peroxide, baking soda with water and tea tree oil for rosacea
I tried them all as well as Borax which I did only once because of my skin sensitivity.
anyway, whatever i had been doing worked!. redness has gone and also the cystic pimples. no flushing, a few patches of dry skin are still on my forehead but it could my usual eczema.
I wash my face everyday with water and hydrogen peroxide diluted in the water. every other day i'll add tea tree oil into the water. when my face is still wet, i'll put Eucerin (heavy cream) on. I also use an acne lamp for about 20 min each night.
i think the hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil had been a great help.
i also drink water with baking soda almost everyday."

LYSINE, VITAMIN C, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, VASELINE

[YEA] 12/22/2008: Diane from Raleigh, NC writes: "I have had a terrible struggle with severe rosacea on my face, eyes, and neck the past few months, along with seborrheic dermatitis on and behind my ears. This attacked with a vengeance at age 50 after a lifetime of no significant skin problems. The onset was after a serious illness, possibly autoimmune, so it seems it was facilitated by a compromised immune system. After getting progressively worse following my dermatologist's recommendations, I started reading and researching everything I could get my hands on. There were many days I wouldn't even leave the house because my face and eyes were so raw and swollen. My facial features were nearly unrecognizable as my own, and I was truly desperate, and was terribly afraid I would never look normal again. I finally seem to have found a combination of remedies that have almost miraculously returned my skin to its former (smooth, soft, unblemished, not red) self, and I am praying that there is no relapse.
So far, so good, and I wanted to share what I am doing.
1).I am taking 4-5 lysine 1000 mg.tablets daily (2-3 a.m. & p.m.) along with several grams of vitamin C daily
2). After washing with a mild facial cleanser morning & evening, I follow with a ACV straight out of the bottle all over the affected areas applied with a cotton ball.
3) After 5 minutes, I rinse off the ACV, pat dry, and apply vaseline all over my face & neck. The results have been amazing! I don't know this for fact, but IF rosacea is caused by mites, I think that the vaseline may smother them, but I'd love to hear Ted's thoughts on this. As heavy as vaseline is, at night on rosacea-ravaged skin it is soothing and nicely absorbed, and you may be able to go a little lighter in the morning. This has been a godsend for me, and I would love to know if anyone else tries it and what their results are. I will post an update after awhile to see if I remain clear."
Replies04/09/2009: Ashok from Bangalore, India replies: "I would like to add that vaseline may not be good for everyone as I did the same mistake and then was told by my doctor that vaseline can in fact block the pores and may aggravate the problem. Instead, he asked me to use another cream to treat the flakes on my facial skin which has resulted from Rosacea and Seborrheic Dermatitis. I will try though Borax treatment and hopefully rid myself of this condition. Thanks to all the people who are helping others with their comments and experiences."
04/10/2009: Che from Roxas City, Phil replies: "Reply for Diane You did the right thing by your choice of remedies for your rosecea. Just this month, i had the same issue on my face and neck my remedy was 50 % hydrogen peroxide and 50 % ACV. The next morning its all gone as if nothing appeared."

[YEA] 08/31/2010: Carlos from London, Spain writes: "I think here at earthclinic should create a different category for Manuka Honey. Even tho every raw honey is beneficial Manuka Honey deserves its own category. I thought it was a myth and that it was just like any other. But I've used it on my face and my rosacea is gone my skin is smooth and I look 10 years younger. I have not take it internally but Manuka honey is 20 times more anti bacteria and anti inflammatory than tea tree oil. It's selling millions all around the world improving every kind of ailment. I have to say I have not used anything better. I rank manuka honey 1st and ACVwith olive oil 2nd. It also should be added in the founatin of youth category and acne. I thank God for allowing me to try this elixir. If it does this in my skin that fast I can't imagine what it can do in the blood stream. Truly miracle"
